Obama: Just Inflate Your Tires and Everything Will Be Fine

I’m laughing so hard I am practically crying here. What on earth is wrong with Barack Obama? Is he a simpleton? Is he unable to grasp complex problems? Or is it just that he shouldn’t be allowed to speak without a teleprompter?

As you might recall, Manchild Barack Obama has already told us that as President he will expect us to follow his order: “Don’t Drive. Don’t Eat. Freeze Your Butt ala Jimmy Carter Malaise.

Now, according to this turkey, we actually won’t need to drill for oil if only all of us would just inflate our tires.

That’s right folks. You inflate your tires and it will solve our oil problem. We won’t need to drill, because our properly inflated tires will save us the same amount of oil we would garner if we drilled.

I think Powerline says it best:

Barack Obama is a lot like Sean Penn or George Clooney. If you give him a script, he can deliver it pretty well. But if he tries to talk without a script that has been written for him by others, he quickly reveals that he is poorly-informed if not downright ignorant. Today he delivered another classic, by claiming that if only we would all properly inflate our tires, we could save as much gasoline as “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.” Seriously:

The stunned silence with which the crowd greets this howler suggests that most Americans have a more practical understanding of energy consumption than Obama.

And here’s the “Howler”:

Warning: Do not drink anything while you are watching this. I wouldn’t want your coffee to come out of your nose or ruin your keyboard or anything:

YouTube Preview Image

Powerline also did the math, which brings us to the conclusion that without a teleprompter and a pre-written script composed by somebody with an IQ,  Barack Obama is truly a stunningly stupid dimwad. While he prances around the country claiming that people will try to make us afraid of him because he doesn’t look like the guys on our currency, it is becoming glaringly apparent that there is good reason to be afraid of him and it has little to do with his tan:

Properly inflating your tires can improve gas mileage by 3%. Of course, many people already keep their tires properly inflated, and many more are at least close to being properly inflated. Let’s be generous and assume that one-half of the total possible savings would be realized if we all inflated our tires properly; that’s a net gain of 1.5% fuel efficiency.

Americans drive approximately 2,880 miles per year. If we average 24 mpg, we use around 120 billion gallons of gasoline in our vehicles. If, through perfect tire inflation, we improved our collective fuel efficiency by 1.5%, that would be 1.8 billion gallons. A barrel of oil produces around 20 gallons of gasoline, so the total savings available through tire inflation is approximately 90,000,000 barrels of oil annually.

How does this stack up against “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling?”

ANWR: 10 billion barrels
Outer Continental Shelf: 18 billion barrels (estimated; the actual total is undoubtedly much higher, since exploration has been banned)
Oil shale: 1 trillion barrels

So, on the above assumptions, it would take only 11,308 years of proper tire inflation to equal “all the oil that they’re talking about getting off drilling.”

I posted about Barack’s plan to seize oil profits and redistribute them to his supporters, if anyone’s interested.

Oh Gawd, who advised Obama on this one? Gore or Leonardo DiCaprio? Look, I understand that inflating tires helps…somehow…

But is he wacked out of his head to say that if we all just got tune ups and inflated our tires that we would all be fine?

    WTF??

    Earth to Obama…

  • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/puma/ kat in your hat

    lol…clown car…

  • jw

He also mentioned keeping your car tuned up. That would also increase the savings. I prefer Clinton. But I will not put down someone when he advocates for conservation. That should be a large part of our energy plan. When you add up all the little bits of energy you can save doing this or that, it can end up being a significant amount.

Pitiful, recall these are the same questions we were asking about the other Media crush Bush….

This is a classic “open your mouth wide, insert foot” moment. I read about this comment yesterday but the video is downright painful to watch. I think the audience thought he was kidding.

    Nope. That’s our Barack.

Now we know why Obama has refused McCain’s suggestion of doing these Town Hall meetings across the country. A few more bloopers like this and even the press will start laughing.

Save us from this self-appointed Savior. Please!!!!

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/PaulFVillarreal Paul F. Villarreal

Speaking of Obama as clown, here are two new images to help get across the point of Obama as vapid celeb, just as the McCain camp brilliantly showed in their ‘celeb’ ad:

Please pass them on, and let everyone know just what a media-created fraud this guy is.

Buy the book “Obama Nation” (out today), read it, and share it with every registered voter you know (especially Obama supporters); go to Amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com now and buy it! This could help turn the tide even faster before the convention (to draft Hillary). THIS IS IMPORTANT

The book title is actually “The Obama Nation” (could also be THE ABOMINATION) heh-heh-heh

  • researchguy66

I’m FAR from an Obama fan, but proper tire inflation, tune-ups, consolidating trips, driving at 55 mph, carpooling all help.

Granted, it isn’t a substitute for judicious drilling AND a plan to wean us off oil, but every little bit helps. More so, it’s not a nice-to-have, it’s our responsibility to protect the earth that God gave us dominion over.

McCain Camp Compares Times Editorial Board to ‘the Average Daily Kos Diarist’

Where the New York Times sees an editorial scolding, the McCain campaign sees an opportunity.

At issue is an editorial, which appeared yesterday on the Times blog “The Board,” accusing the McCain campaign of “starting up the same sort of racially tinged attack on Mr. Obama that Republican operatives ran against Harold Ford.”

McCain spokesman Michael Goldfarb just sent out this statement, attacking the Times as hysterically pro-Obama:

“If the shareholders of the New York Times ever wonder why the paper’s ad revenue is plummeting and its share price tanking, they need look no further than the hysterical reaction of the paper’s editors to any slight, real or imagined, against their preferred candidate. This campaign has never engaged in ‘racially tinged attacks,’ and the Obama campaign conceded as much yesterday in a statement clarifying that “Barack Obama in no way believes that the McCain campaign is using race as an issue.”

That the Times made this allegation in a blog post rather than running it on the editorial page indicates that they either knew the charge was bogus or they didn’t have the nerve to make their case in full view of the public. But in their new role as bloggers, the paper’s editors seem to have all the intelligence and reason of the average Daily Kos diarist sitting at home in his mother’s basement and ranting into the ether between games of dungeons and dragons. They also have about as much care for the facts–the “board” has already been forced to append a correction.”

  • Pragmatist

    EXCELLENT!

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

jw, agree there. However, Barky is pimping the thought that if we all properly inflate our tires it will equal in savings all the oil we would drill for. Now that’s plain Ludicrous. You see, what he did was take a small piece of what Hillary said, without bothering with the rest of an entire plan. To say what he said shows a clear lack of understanding beyond a one-liner.

  • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/puma/ kat in your hat

No, this is not the 70′s. Who doesn’t get their cars tuned up and their tires inflated??

Our cars are VERY different now.

  • doublestandard

Ah yes, but of course, does the media focus on Obama’s comments and how ridiculous it is? Of course not, that would be racist, just like anything else negative you say about him.

BTW, the Obama Nation book, just out today, is now number 5 on Amazon’s top 100 list. Glad the public is taking an interest! Do you think it will make it to Oprah’s book club?

    LOL!

  • Skiron

    amen to that.

  • AX10

While I do agree that we should keep
our tired properly inflated and motors tuned-up,
we need to get off of foreign oil.
These things will cut foreign oil dependence by 3%. That is not much.
We need alternative energy. Hillary offered
a comprehensive plan to get us off of all oil.
McCain has a plan that will get us off of foreign
oil in the short term and full energy independence
in the long term. The Democrats have again nominated an elitist snot. The evidence should be obvious. Not only is Obama pandering to the Hollywood/Latte Drinking Crowd, but he also wants to make sizable cuts to the Space Program and wants to double the size of the National Endowment For The Arts.
This clearly shows where Mr. Obama stands. He stand with the DiCaprios, Clooneys(“Clownies”), and Baldwin (Wife Beater) of the world.

How about we eliminate the Arts Endowment, it’s a waste of money.

    OT, but important

Hillary and Bill Clinton are sending out e-mails to her supporters to raise money to retire her remaining debt.

I don’t see how we can expect her to become the Democratic Nominee in Denver if her debt is not paid off.

I don’t see how we can’t afford a few bucks here and there to help her.

Send a few Dollars her way. That is the minimum we can do for her.

I was feeling down earlier, but this video cheered me up. The pause was hilarious. He’s waiting for a reaction and doesn’t get it. Then he realises he’s said something they’re just not buying, so he adds the tune-up line. I can’t stop laughing.

I heard about this too, but I agree… the video puts a different perspective on it. Fox should play this all the time.

If we could inflate our tires with all the hot air Obama blows, we could all drive hover crafts. I bet that would save on gas.

  • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/puma/ kat in your hat

You are right, Pragmatist, it is important. Look at my post farther down the thread….

  • http://uppitywoman08.wordpress.com Uppity Woman

That’s the point. Of course tires should be properly inflated, but in NO WAY would it make up for drilling. And that is what he implied.

Not to date myself, and almost off-topic, but what the hell. We did all of these conservation things during Carter and just as soon as the problem eased up, American car manufacturers went right back to their old ways and so did Americans. And ethanol was a bust. A ripoff. Just like now. It costs 1.20 gallons of oil to process 1 gallon of ethanol. But it’s working out well for Tom Daschle et al.

We truly DO need to explore ALL options, not pick and choose. And yes, we have to drill. The argument in the late 70s was “we wouldn’t see any results for ten years”. You can see where this is going. That argument should be a dead one just on sheer history.

  • wodiej

first of all, when you get an oil change, they check your tires. Most cars don’t need tune ups for the first 100,000 miles.

  • Skiron

No, we need the arts. The NEA’s budget is $144 million a year, which I believe is the equivalent of about a third of what we spend on Iraq in just a single day…think about that. Eliminating it would do almost nothing for our national fiscal health but would cause proportionally greater harm to our cultural well-being.
I don’t agree with his proposal of cutting the space program. Personally I’d like to see that increased, with an emphasis on more robotic missions like the ones that have worked so well on Mars.

Obama should be very embarrassed for himself. Added to His past gaffes, like the one about 10,000 people dying in a tornado in Kansas, He is coming across as significantly challenged in His quantitative aptitude. I’m beginning to wonder if He can add and subtract or do simple multiplication.

How can His army of advisors discuss policy options with Him intelligently if He has no grasp of quantitative concepts? He doesn’t seem to have.

Maybe this type of blunder is just another sign of mental deterioration caused by past drug abuse or maybe it’s even clinically significant in some other respect. Or maybe it’s just more of His BS. In any case, it’s definitely not a sign of superior mental capability.

What are Obama’s special qualities again? Why are we supposed to vote for Him again?

Maybe His genius friend said it all. What do you think, Senator Kerry?

The space program needs to be increased, or at the very least kept at the current level. The space program is responsible for much medical technology, GPS, satellite TV (obviously), and even the computers we are typing on. (The integrated circuit was invented for the space program.) P.S. As for bush’s mars mission, forget that until you can pay for it without borrowing the money.

  • BernieO

It works by reducing friction. Underinflated tires grab the road more reducing mileage. They also heat up more (sometimes causing tires to disintegrate).
It really does make a difference if it is done by most people. Also, it is safer and saves money not only on gas (a small amount per car) but also extends the life of tires.

Obama’s mistake was to say it would replace all the oil we have offshore. But it is an important part of conservation. Too bad he didn’t say that. Not only does he look foolish, he blew an opportunity to increase public awareness of this simple measure.

I bought a black and decker electric pump. It is easy to use because you present the pressure you want. It is pretty accurate, but you still should double check with a good tire guage.

Very few people keep their tires inflated. It should be checked monthly, but most people rarely do it, especially since we don’t have full service gas stations. I think most tire dealers will do it for you if you don’t want to do it yourself, but it is a nuisance.

  • PamFlorida

Those of us in S. FL. have been under water restrictions for a year and have been inundated with pleas to conserve electricity. Well, the populace responded, usage declined and all was right with the world, temporarily.
Now, our efforts to be good citizens are being rewarded with surcharges because we have consumed too little. The lower your usage of water and power, the higher your surcharges!
Seems the corporations aren’t making enough profit.

  • Skiron

The Story of A Young DNC Volunteer Knocking On My Mom’s Door Today.

I just got a call from my mom tonight telling me her story of her encounter with a young man that knocked on her door today working for the DNC. He certainly did not know what was coming when he came to her door. She saw his DNC shirt, and started to lay into him about how the Democratic Party leaders have totally destroyed the Party, and completely rigged the election for Obama, and she would never give him a dime.

Once she noticed the fear in the young man’s eyes, she stepped back and invited him in for some water. She asked him how he got the job, and how it was going and did he know what happened in this election? He said he had worked only three days, and that he would get a percentage of everything he raised from the grass roots. She then asked how he was doing. “Terrible”, he said. She then asked, if the DNC trained him and informed him what he would be facing going door to door. He said, “no they did not”.

So she let him know about the voter fraud in the caucuses, the dis-enfranchisment of Michigan and Florida, the stealing of votes at the RBC meeting, the buying of super delegates, and the rigging of the election by the Party Leaders. She said she was a life long Democrat who was Jerry Brown’s campaign manager when he ran for Governor in the 70s, and for the first time in her life she would be voting for a Republican because of what Dean, Pelosi, and Brazille had done to the Party. She told him about Obama’s relationship with Rezko and Ayers, and the corrupt Chicago machine, and that Obama bought and threatened many super delegates with their lives if they did not back him.

This poor young man got an education. She felt bad for him, and encouraged him that it was great that he was working on a grass roots campaign, and that it was important for young people to be involved, but he needs to educate himself on what he is selling before agreeing to the job. She then said, “Honey you need to make sure you pick the right movement.” He agreed.

He said that the DNC did not tell him anything, and after three days of working and raising no money and getting yelled at that he is done, and quitting tonight. He said he is going to take a job at Walmart instead. With a turkey sandwich, two bottles of water, and an apple in hand the young DNC volunteer from UC Santa Cruz left my mom’s home awakened by the truth, and completely dismayed. He then promised my mom as he left that he would tell the DNC exactly how she felt right before he quits.

Maybe Barack was too busy in Europe to realize that American consumption has already declined significantly? Does he keep up on any news other than the kind he thinks he makes? It isn’t coming down quickly enough to impact the average consumer or save the auto industry … if he could be any more out of touch, he’d still be in Berlin.

Let’s see if I can duplicate Josh Marshall’s logic and Atrios’ outrage on this:

You’re being racist because you showed Obama in a clown car and every clown has a white face so you’re deliberately pointing out that Obama is black.

It reminds of the last day of the Primary while the polls were still open in the 2 states (MT and SD, I believe) and AP ran a story all day long that Hillary conceded. They wouldn’t retract the story despite being called on it’s being a lie.

    Inflate tires my ass…
    Here’s a better one:

If “Carbon Footprint” is such an essential talking point, lets try a new “big fact.”
    Proposed new Obama Policy
How long can you hold your breath?
Since an average respirational cycle, or Breath, takes about three seconds, if everyone just HELD their breath for as long as they could, then quickly exhaled and re-inhaled and repeated the process throughout their waking day, we could cut carbon emissions by, (and this in Obama numbers)
    Ten Gazillion Percent!
Since this would be so effective so quickly, it would require that a reserve force of Civilian Breathers be armed and ready to step in and breath faster in order to compensate for accidental periods where nobody would be exhaling, thus changing air pressure worldwide and causing our overinflated tires to explode.
I’m just lookin’ out for ya! :)

  • Zeke

Did you notice that he even ‘double spaced’ his Wailing Wall note to make it look bigger?

  • HARP

Americans drive approximately 2,880 billion miles per year.

So lets just have China reach Mars first. It is the RED planet anyway. Opposition to space exploration is silly because the exploration leads to so many new technologies. Furthermore, the jobs created by the space industry help fuel large sections of the economy, including the electronics, robotics, and aerospace fields.

And why would we want “to stop Hillary Clinton from attaining the White House”?

  • http://www.oohnuance.blogspot.com madamab

I agree. He should have just listed it with the other things you can do to save gas.

My husband was always amazed when I inflated the tires on our car and all of a sudden, it would ride more smoothly on the road. He just couldn’t believe something that easy could have such a big effect.

  • Obama is a bum

I did not realize Obama had actually said if people would inflate their tires it would be equivalent to the proposed additional drilling until I read this. Astonishing — I knew Obama was stupid but this proves he is insane.

As pointed out here, tires constantly maintained at the proper inflation would improve gas mileage by 3% (I think that is generous since that is based on extreme underinflation and very few people allow that to occur). Even with an inflated number drilling by far exceeds Obama’s logic.

And what would Obama suggest in his plan that people must bring their cars into a government approved location to have their tires checked every 3 months for proper inflation? How much would this program cost? How much gas and time would people waste going to a location to get their tires checked? Most people already get their tires checked during oil changes.

Somebody bang the gong — this pathetic act has gone on long enough.

    Future former obama supporter.
I’m very upset. Hannity is starting to make sense to me.

Barack, say something nice about the oil companies…we need them.

Barack, listen to the voice of the people and support off-shore driling.

Barack, say something nice about the surge. We’ll still want to get out of there. Unless of course if we can expand our influence, power and wealth. In that case, annex Iraq (with volunteer soldiers).

Barack, no one wants illegal aliens, not even me and my mother was an illegal alien. Luckily she’s dead and can’t be extradited. It’s about ILLEGAL immigrants. Stop immigration from the mid-east while we’re at it.

I don’t like sanctuary cities either.

    I don’t even understand NAFTA.

Then there’s all those embarassing surrogates. Where did you find these people???

Nobody’s trying to scare anyone. You are just off-base these days. I’m sad. You really ought to have Hillary as VP and tell those overzealous supporters of yours to chill, give it a break or you will not win.

Americans drive approximately 2,880 billion miles per year.

Uh, no. The best estimate is that Americans drive about 260 billion miles per year. Your arithmetic begins by multiplying that figure by a factor of 10.

More than a quarter of all cars and nearly one-third of all SUVs, vans and pickups are driven with tires at least 8 pounds below their proper levels, according to a new survey by the Department of Transportation.

Proper tire inflation would reduce national gasoline consumption by around 2%.

That’s roughly equivalent to all the gasoline that could be produced by drilling ANWR.

Obama critics and oil industry disinformation specialists have gleefully latched onto an offhanded Obama comment like a Jimmy Carter cardigan. Tire pressure isn’t the Obama energy policy. But his point is still perfectly valid, and I could make it more pointedly: Americans should get off their lazy butts and check their tire pressure.

Two percent doesn’t sound like much, but on a national level it’s significant.

It’s twice the annual fuel needs of our entire Department of Defense, for example.

How stupid Obama is! Imagine by inflating my tires I can stop the rise of oil. You don’t tell me to inflate my tires because I’ve been doing that already; you should tell us what can you do to stop the rising of oil. It only show how inexperience you are.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Heh, heh, The Republicans are staging a revolt in the House over drilling. The Dems had already left for vacation and they are trying to force them back for a vote. Way to go GOP…turn up the heat.

  • Karma

    8 pounds of pressure!?

    That is bs…in my opinion.

Sorry, but at that amount you can visibly see the tire is low as well as feel it when driving.

I do not see 1/4 of all cars with tire pressure that low.

Nor do I see 1/3 of all SUVs with that low of pressure.

And low tires stick out to me.

It would be very interesting to see just how the guy who wrote the report came to those numbers. Because I doubt CA has cornered the market on keeping tires inflated.

    This is absolutely silly…

I don’t beleive in more off shore drilling until the oil companies explain why they haven’t drilled on the leases they already have.

There is no such thing as domestic oil pricing…we would not necessarily import less at less price. The oil is priced by world markets We increase our production..OPEC declines theirs..prices remain the same. The winners are the oil companies.
