I am inclined to think “slam dunk” was not the first example of it. There are so many who fit that description of being seduced by the dark side.

and that POS in the WH cant take 5 minutes away from his golf game to make a statement about the cia massacre. his annoyance over having his vacation interrupted by the christmas day bomber ,was obvious to one and all. his speech was about the lamest ever. even Tweety didnt have the nerve to call it one of the bestest, most historical speech EVAH!!!

Yeah Retired of course your right but in this case there is going to be blowback.The truth will come out, one way or the other, especially with guys like you, LJ, Mel, Ray and others who were once with the IC. It will not be pleasant either. It just does not make political sense especially with Pennetta as DCI, who is close to Rhambo….

Say what you wish about Rhambo but the man is an experienced, seasoned and very clever politician…Blaming the Agency at this point is plainly a rookie and stupid mistake….That’s why I am miffed on why point the finger at the Agency when all the fact are not even in yet and the facts will come out…..

Teak, the animosity comes from (1) an ignorance of what CIA does and what type of people choose a career in it, (2) a loathing of people who actually mean what they say when they take their oath of office to support and defend the Constitution, and (3) a fear of smart, capable people so close to the centers of power who cannot be seduced into selling out their country for personal political gain. Think of who, just in the past decade, has shown animosity toward the Agency. Consider those in the White House, on the Hill, and in various Cabinet departments. What is the common thread? Those who bear animosity toward the Agency have been, by and large, themselves corrupted by the choice of politics over their fellow citizens.

The thing is, CIA officers are not particularly inclined to undermine any President. What we are inclined to do is support and defend the Constitution of the United States because that’s what we took an oath to do.
We are, however, human, and we despise it when elected officials lie to our fellow citizens. Being drilled in secrecy until it is a second nature, however, we pretty much suck it up until said elected officials accuse us of lying, particularly to our fellow citizens. Then, being human, we become inclined to use the most powerful weapon that we have at our disposal, the weapon that lying politicians most fear, which is the truth. You cannot walk across that shield and motto every day that you are in Headquarters without the power of the truth eventually sinking in.
And that its what lying politicians fear the most. They know that we know what is really going on, and they are told by their advisors that because we are intelligence professionals, it is in our nature to keep our mouths shut and not hoist them on their own petard of lies.
That may have been true in the past when the lies were yours, and you did not involve us. But when you start falsly accusing us of lying, and start exploiting the ignorance of the American public in matters of intelligence to lay blame at our doorstep in the interests of political expedicency, do not be suprised if there is blowback in the form of the truth coming out. From the machinations of the recent health care political exercise, we know that you fear the truth. And fear it you should.
