The Assassination Attempt Not Heard Around The World

You may have heard recently about the Somali man who broke into Durch cartoonist, Kurt Westergaard, to kill him for his depiction of Mohammad in one of his cartoons. Fortunately, he was arrested, and is being charged with attempted murder.

What you may NOT have heard was the connection between this same man and Hillary Clinton:

The Politiken newspaper reported Sunday that Danish intelligence knew the 28-year-old Somali man was held in Kenya in September for allegedly plotting an attack against U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Citing unnamed sources, the newspaper said he was later released due to lack of evidence.

But Denmark’s ambassador to Kenya, Bo Jensen, told the news agency Ritzau the man was arrested in Kenya for incomplete travel documents. He said Kenyan authorities never told the embassy he was suspected in any terror plot.


I don’t remember hearing word ONE about an attempted assassination on Secretary Clinton’s life. It wasn’t all that recent, either. It was on August 5th of 2009. If you do a search, the first date you’ll find for any mention of this attempt (or at least the first one I found) was from September 8th, 2009. In a blog, I might add, but even it backed off from the assertion:

A plot by al Qaeda-linked Islamist militants to bomb the hotel where Secretary Clinton was staying during her visit to Nairobi, Kenya, last month (shown above) was foiled at the last minute, The Australian reports. Very scary.

[Update (Sept. 10): This story might not be true -- see stacyx's comment below. FP regrets any error; at the time of posting, the story seemed credible.]

Here is “Stacyx’s” comment:

I covered this story on my blog and was initially concerned that there was no MSM coverage. Then I spoke to someone at ABC news and they said the reason the US and British media were not covering the alleged terror plot story was because all their inside sources said there was no truth to the story.

Except there was some truth to it, apparently, and the newssource that claimed otherwise, was, well, lying. What a big surprise. And what a HUGE surprise that the US and British MSM didn’t bother to cover this story.


We find out a full five months after the fact only because one of the Al Qaeda members who tried to blow our Secretary of State to smithereens in Nairobi, was caught in another country trying to kill someone else.

Not for nothing, but someone else almost died because the authorities did not pass along the information about this terrorist and his attempts.

Not to be a complete and total cynic about this, but I cannot help but wonder why the media decided this was not newsworthy. I have my suspicions, including that Obama’s poll numbers were already tanking then, and Clinton’s were rising. Take a look at Obama’s numbers in August:

Or could it be that if we were told about this attempt on Secretary Clinton’s life by an Al Qaeda operative, Obama would have to admit that there were actually honest-to-goodness terrorists out there, trying to do us harm? That attempted terrorist attacks were not attempted “man-made disasters“?

Uh, yeah. There is that. And then there is the total incompetence of our media, or the attempt to cover up by the media, either one of which is completely unacceptable.

And to think, we found out about this attempt on our beloved Hillary Clinton’s life because of an attempt on a cartoonist. Feel free to craft the next line to THAT set-up…

    Amazing the media finally got around to reporting that the men who invaded Westergaard’s home were Muslim. It took a few days for that small detail to be revealed.

    Meanwhile, one must wonder what other stories are not being reported?

    And, how would this story had been handled if Obama’s hotel was a target?

    An assassination plot against the SOS… no word of this at all. But find an effigy somewhere in Georgia and it’s another story. I think the pattern here is foreign terrorists no longer exist as we knew them, while domestic home grown people are a growing problem. At least I think this is the narrative being sold. What worries me most is why?

    Where can I sign up to “unofficially” hunt and kill these people. I hear that we don’t assassinate people, but seriously, can’t we just go make a few people disappear? No one’s going to miss this guy, he’s clearly a threat and the legal system is a joke. It’s time to go off the books and clean house.

    When Hillary Clinton went to Africa, I wondered about what extra security measures the government had taken.  I hadn’t heard a whisper about this alleged threat–not even the rumors.  But I know I worried myself sick when my oldest son was teaching in Africa, particularly after 9/11.  We forget how large the Muslim population is on the continent [it's estimated at nearly 48%], and after 9/11 my son reported a lot of anti-Americanism rising to the surface in his area, pretty much “we got what we deserved” sentiments. 

    Thank goodness in this case the attempt failed.  I understand the Danish cartoonist was saved by a panic room he’d had constructed.

    Strange world we’re living in!

    We did not hear about it becasue it was not Obama, can you imagine the headlines if an attempt was made to any hotel he stayed at geez we would of been having updates by the minute on the media with all kind of experts telling us what could and could not happen.

    The entire country would of been in choas for weeks, its just the SOS so no big deal just brush it off your shoulders and move along people

    I seem to remember there being a fuss over a threat to her when she arrived in Africa.  I believe there were photos full of those guard types with that caption in the Vogue piece.

    Exactly – the ONLY reason we found out abt this at all was this other attempt.  How can that possibly be??

    I dare say, none of the media have been falling over themselves admitting they were WRONG for not reporting this.  Clearly, someone knew this story was true from the get-go since everyone is now reporting it like it was common knowledge. 

    No kidding, cat – he would have gone on a world tour to make sure everyone knew he was okay, and make another opporunity to claim terrorism is yesterday’s news. 

    Sheesh.

    I saw that, abt the effigy – in Carter’s hometown, right?  In any event. yes -  that was big news.  As I understand it, having an effigy of a leader is not considered a crime.  Trying to assassinate a major leader IS, however. 

    And what do we hear?  Crickets…

    I am struggling to understand what is to be gained by minimizing the threat of terrorism – I’m sorry, I mean terrorists from outside the country.  Ahem.  What does Obama hope to gain by that??  I think we can guess…

    Well, you know if that guy had been caught by an American, Obama would INSIST that he be read his Miranda rights and given a criminal trial, not a military combatant trial.

    Can you believe the DOJ did that with the guy who tried to blow up the plane?  And guess what – he is all lawyered up now, nothing to be learned from him until his trial. 

    Again – what is to be gained by not acknowledging that these are terrorists who do NOT play by the rules?

    SJ, you are SO right.  That is exactly what would have happened.  And every single time one of us disagreed with someting Obama wanted to do, like force this Obamacare down our throats, we would hear abt how “he came THIS CLOSE to being assassinated, and we better remember that,” and on and on, and on.

    Clinton?  Nothing.  And I get the daily updates from the State Dept.  There wasn’t a mention there, either.  I am sure they were all told to keep a lid on it.  Amazing how this Administration was able to to do that with the entire media.  Wow.

    Amazing.  Oh yes, heaven forbid they actually shine a light on threats to someone other than Obambi or that Kenya seems better equipped to handle threats than our own country.  Too bad they weren’t able to hold him (another questions) because we see he was a specific threat.

    Indeed, IALT.  On all counts, actually.  Yes, clearly he was a threat.  And clearly, they were able to thwart this attempt on SOS Clinton.  Makes you wonder just how that happened.

    Maybe now that the cat is out of the bag, more information on this attempt will begin to filter out..

    Thanks, SFK for this link.  I do remember all of the outrage surrounding these cartoons when they came out.  The whole thing was reminiscent of the Rushdie brouhaha.

    Honestly, it isn’t like other religions aren’s caricatured, either.  I suppose some people get upset abt those, too, but not to this extreme…

According to participants, she asked, what should Obama do if he is in the middle of his inaugural address and a bomb goes off somewhere on the mall? “Is the Secret Service going to whisk him off the podium so the American people see their incoming president disappear in the middle of the inaugural address?” she asked. “I don’t think so.”

    I just thought you might find the proof about who really was  ready on “day one” and the day before too.

    It is sad that majority of the main media is in Obama’s bag of crooks. Can’t the citizen wake-up and demand fair reporting? Are we doomed to the Third World condition of ruled by corrupt politicians?

    Well, we certainly did know who was going to be ready on Day One, didn’t we?  And we ALL knew that it wasn’t BO.  Oh, his minions made fun of that comercial, put Hillary down left and right for it, but the bottom line – it was ACCURATE.  And now look where we are…

    I might add, we are abt to get Obama care whether we want it or not, including, down the road, covering illegal immigrants, too.  And who is going to bear the brunt of paying for that?  The middle class, whiech will be the working poor class if this continues…
