Why Obama Must Lose: One Progressive’s Opinion

The Just Say No Deal/PUMA movement is evidence of a deep rift in the Democratic Party, one I believe the polls are not reflecting. Contrary to what the neo-liberals may say, the movement is not comprised of bitter old women — although many are bitter, many are women, and some are perhaps old. Instead, this deepening divide is the classic split of any political organization during a power struggle. The Daley Machine gave way to McGovern; and Goldwater conservatism rebuked Rockefeller’s liberalism.

But this movement has a twist: Obama lacks legitimacy. The continuation of this rift is not about Hillary “losing.” Clintonistas, like myself, know that losing elections and having your heart broken is the inevitable risk of politics. Anglachel writes:

With John Edwards in the news these days, I have been reflecting on the theme of “Two Americas” and have applied a twist that more accurately reflects the two Americas within the Democratic Party – those whose bigotry and biases are excused because they are of the right class and those whose flaws are inexcusable, even when the flaws do not exist.

This “class” split in the Democratic Party is much more than an economic split. As Anglachel suggests, it is evidence of a values divide. These values are not the black-and-white split of abortion. Instead, this divide is a matter of emphasis. Obama talks about access to health care, but he doesn’t offer a universal plan. Obama criticized Hillary for her Iraq War vote, but he wasn’t in the senate to vote. Obama lectures Americans to learn Spanish–an irony not missed by many– a language he doesn’t speak.

But the differences of emphasis were not themselves the deal-breaker. The deal-breaker, I believe, was about Obama’s tactics in the campaign and the Democratic Party’s complete bias and vote-rigging for their chosen candidate. Donna Brazile’s embarrassing performance at the RBC was so transparent in its bias that she became the most visible Obama shill massaging rules for her candidate, all the while lecturing us on rules. Do they really think we’re that stupid?

Clintonistas, and now PUMAs, are revolted by four major issues. This is by no means an all-inclusive list, but includes the followings:

(1) The Democratic Nomination was Stolen

garyinchapelhill writes about Obama’s lack of legitimacy resulting from a stolen nomination:

Obama’s decision to return full voting status to delegates from Michigan and Florida does not make up for the fact that the RBC stole delegates from the uncommitted voters, as well as all write in votes, AND 4 of Hillary’s delegates. Until that travesty is corrected the votes of those delegates can not be considered legitimate.

And Marc Rubin of The Denver Group considers Obama’s current flip flop on Florida and Michigan as a ploy to entice disgusted Democrats into the fold:

Florida and Michigan were one of the earliest examples of how dishonest, two faced underhanded and fraudulent Obama can be, when he claimed in speeches that he stood for “voices being heard” and “every vote must count”, and then clamped his hand over the mouths of almost 3 million voters in Florida and Michigan because he didn’t like what those voices were saying, which was a loud “go home”. And in all likelihood are still saying “go home and will continue to say it. Clinton beat him by landslide numbers in both states and this little act of political self preservation isn’t going to fool anyone. Anyone, even an Obama supporter can see it’s nothing more than another cynical political ploy to try and win back voters who were disgusted with him a long time ago because he needs them now.

(2) Obama Race-Baited the Clintons

Obama’s race speech was compared to Lincoln by his sycophants in the media. It was closer to Nixon’s infamous “Checkers” speech, a disingenuous, hateful piece of sophistry created to dove-tail with white liberal guilt. The conflation of Jeremiah Wright’s homicidal racism with Geraldine Ferraro’s simple observation was only the most glaring evidence of Obama’s tactics. Anglachel points out that Obama’s demonizing of low income whites was a basic political calculation:

working class voters are not the socio-economic slice of the “white” vote that votes Republican. They are the least likely portion of white voters to do so, which is part of what made the constant slamming of this group so infuriating during the primaries. This was the slice of the white demographic most likely to vote for Hillary, and that was the reason they were being singled out for shaming and insults.

And Alegre puts her finger on why PUMAs find Obama unacceptable:

I think I can speak for millions of Hillary’s 18 millions supporters when I say that Camp Obama stepped over a serious line when they tarred the Clintons as racists in the lead-up to the SC primary (and since). Those attacks were simply unforgivable and may be a big reason (among many!) why many of us won’t get on that unity pony of Howie’s.

(3) Obama Attacked Hillary from the Right

Attacking Hillary from the Right was not by itself a deal-breaker. But the fact that Obama went after Hillary on health care — after everything she had fought for in the 1990s — was a disgraceful appropriation of Right Wing tactics and talking points. As SusanUnPC writes:

The sad reality, of course, is that Obama has no fealty to commitments over issues. Issues are merely fodder to be used to grab what he seeks above all else: Victory…Now, every politician has to be focused on winning. But most politicians have some issues about which they genuinely care and are knowledgeable about. Obama doesn’t seem to hold any issues dear.

(4) The Democratic Party Rejects Racism, Embraces Sexism

Democratic Party leaders and Obama supporters stayed silent while egregious misogyny was leveled against Mrs. Clinton. As feminist blogger Violet Socks said to me, the silence from our “brothers” on the Left regarding this sexism has been one of the most disappointing political events in the annals of progressivism. So we must have an accounting, and a defeat. There are worse things than losing elections, and I believe we have just witnessed them during the primaries. Obama’s use of sexist stereotypes against Hillary gave cultural permission for the venom against Hillary. It was outside the realm of acceptable behavior for a Democratic politician, and must be vehemently rejected. Voting for Obama is condoning tactics which are anathema to why we are Democrats in the first place.

Lynette Long writes:

I am not Lolita. I will not crawl back into bed with a party that raped me. I will not stay in an abusive relationship because I have nowhere else to go. I will not be placated by a pat on the head or a worthless trinket. I will not spend the rest of my life waiting for tomorrow or listening to people tell me that today is better than yesterday.

Defeat is Good

Just as Barry Goldwater’s defeat by Johnson in 1964 was considered the end of the conservative movement, Obama’s victory is seen by the neo-liberals as a rejection of third-way progressivism. However, the PUMA movement is not an end but a beginning. It’s not the continuation of Bill Clinton’s moderate policies, but a movement of dedicated progressives who embraced Mrs. Clinton’s far more bold agenda, an agenda more analogues to FDR than Bill Clinton, and one which is much more progressive than Obama’s. Our nascent movement parallels the rise of the conservative movement:

All the pundits saw the size of Goldwater’s defeat. Almost none grasped the implications of the fact that the Goldwater campaign had twice as many volunteers as Johnson’s — or that while 66,000 people donated to the Kennedy and Nixon campaigns of 1960, over a million gave to Barry Goldwater in 1964. Among other things [it is an] account of how a rebellious and at first marginal political faction moved toward power reminds us of the dynamic character of politics and the dangers of static analysis

I am a Democrat because I believe in universal health care, because I despise racism, race-baiting, and sexism, and because I believe in the democratic process. On all these counts, our Party has failed us. We must rid our Party of race-baiting, sexism, and vote stealing, and return our Party to its glorious heritage of patriotism, equal opportunity, and care for the most vulnerable.

Thanks to Medusa for her help with this essay.

I am an American because I have a belief in a democracy for everyone, and that country comes before any Party. Ameria was founded on the basis of one person, one voice and to be free of the oppressors.

Well we have seen through the media and the DNP that oppression is alive and well in America and that the value system projected in America by a certain Party is not one of judgement of a persons charater, but the color of his skin.

The true foundations of America that many, een those Obama saw the ghosts of fought for our ability to think and to stand up for values close to our own, not to almost daily shrug off the pathological lies of a potential leader as justification of a new begining in America, one the pathological liars wife claims he has the ability to save our souls, as in the bible, a liar is the one who always leads the followers down the road of dispare and towards a life of misery.

It is a mockey that so many brave soldiers gave of their lives so that today, a potential POTUS can be as easily marketed as a K-Tel slice-o-matic.

Bravo!!! What a thoughtful and thorough appraisal of the current situation. That the Democrats deserve to loose this election is more than evident. That Obama should loose is essential to our survival.

Obama must lose. And PUMAs must stand together beyond the elections in November. Never again can we let sexism rule in the media. I see PUMA movement growing stronger through the years. Stand strong and fight for what we believe in. The DNC has awoken a sleeping giant. WE ARE THE PEOPLE!

Even if Hillary is on the ticket there is no way that I can vote for these New Democrats after what they have shown me.
How can anyone vote for a party that uses the same thug tactics that would make Hugo Chavez happy.
It’s seems that these New democrats are proud of their communist Marxist socialist background and desire that form of government for all of us.

Excellent article and dead on. If Obama gets elected, you can bet your ass that every politican from now on will use race as a central theme in there campaign.

furthermore, Obama supporters not only were silent, they JOINED in on the choir that was attacking, yes thats right, ATTACKING Hillary on stupid shit, then turning around and saying, “lets talk about the issues”. They are hypocrits out and out.

I promise you this is the end of the road for the DNC if Obama gets elected. If you are white and in the DNC, you better get the hell out. Mark my words, this will happen. Obama with his race baiting has effectively segregated the DNC.

On one level I agree with you Moss and would love Hillary to start a third party movement with the democratic values mentioned above in Charlie’s excellent article.

But if by some honest miracle she becomes nominated at the convention for POTUS candidate I will vote for her in a heart beat knowing that the party could be healed from within.

Otherwise PUMA will be my voice from here on in.

Clinton vs. McCain match up in the general election would be such a powerful referendum. Both are proven, dedicated public servants. Both have a history of accomplishments and bi-partisanship solutions. Both operate from deeply- held core values and principals. Their differences lay in their perspective. Their ideology. Left of center. Right of center. It would be amazing to see how the populace votes. I think ultimately it scared both party leaders. The only difference is the right-wingers couldn’t scam and defraud their primaries.

I would have to disagree that Obama must lose.

First, it’s not a fact that Obama is the machiavellian mastermind behind “stealing” the nomination; first, it’s not even a fact that the nomination was stolen (apportioning the votes in the most favorable manner for Clinton still gives Obama a lead), and second, it assigns Obama far too much credit. Both campaigns (yes, even Clinton’s) signed on the the initial agreement that would have stripped MI and FL of all their delegates comepletely, and both campaigns thereafter set out to game the delegate assignment after the fact. If there was a problem with MI and FL, it was at the outset, with the state officials deciding to delegitimize their own voting.

As for the race-baiting and sexism charges, I would have to agree that the tone of the primary wasn’t up to snuff – however, that’s again true on both sides. But, to attack Obama’s race speech as hateful is really confusing. I didn’t hear anything “hateful” – certainly, he choose some unflattering things to say about unconscious rascism, but a central point of his speech was that he doesn’t asign blame for that sort of behaviour – when he specifically noted that the “racist” backlash against, say, AA, was not from the elites and upper class, but from people of a lower class but not black – that was an exceedingly honest appraisal of the program. And it removes not only the stain of “racism” from those who oppose AA on ideological grounds (because the opposition is rooted in class, not race), but removes it from those who oppose it on personal grounds. Essentially, he recast opposition to AA in entirely ideological terms. The entire speech was like that – trying to defuse scurrilous charges of overt racism from the environment while noting that it can still appear covertly. At any rate, suggesting that it’s Obama who’s actually racist seems strange, to me – I’m not sure how you can justify that.

While I see charges of sexism in the media and I agree completely – the coverage of Clinton was incredibly sexist – I saw very little of that coming from the Obama campaign, aside from the one very public firing after the “monster” comment; but then Ferraro’s comments garnered the same response, so although the tone of the primary wasn’t as good as I might have liked, I do and did note that the actual campaigns themselves held a reasonably high standard. Basically, if you can call Obama sexist for his campaign’s conduct, then Clinton was racist by the same standard, but I think both charges are ridiculous.

Finally, for the “defeat is good” idea – defeat in 2008 would mean that John McCain becomes president, and four more years of George Bush’s policies, only enacted by a meaner man with even less empathy for the people and decades of lobbyists and special interests having bought and paid for him a long time ago – in addition to the fact that he has no core principle aside from self-aggrandisement – would be an utter disaster. Whatever you might say about Obama, there is nothing – absolutely nothing – he can say or do that would ruin America in the way McCain would.

I understand that a lot of people here have the idea that Obama is just an “empty suit”, or that he’s not an empty suit, but rather a soulless political calculator, or that he’s not either, but rather a naive waif with no idea how to run a country, or perhaps the fourth option, that he’s a sinister Manchurian canadidate based on the COLB situation – but all of these perceptions seem to be fairly contradictory – while Obama certainly has elements of all four (except perhaps the Manchurian candidate part, given that the evidence in favor is pretty slim), there’s also a lot of good about him that simply isn’t given credit on this site.

Nice try, but he’s not qualified for the job. You can spin him all day, but the fact remains that people do not trust him to lead. It’s that simple.

I know a typical Chicago pol when I smell him. The only difference between him and the rest is that he had the arrogance to run for president with little to back him up and much working against him.

    Hillary ’08, it’s a must.

Remember, Larry called it well when he said Barry suffers from what Freud called “projecting”…and more. :

    It is true.

Obama is the angry, bitter, cynical fellow. Obama is the one who says anything to win a campaign. Obama is the untruthful person. And because of his elitism and attitude, he atracts the like and the “me” society who wants everything magically fixed FOR THEM, so again, they don’t have to accept responsibility, it was the other persons fault. Yeah right.

And that same attitude I received again myself lastnight. A popular Dentist in our area, who is heralded as a progressive activist and has quite the extensive email list obviously doesn’t practice what he preaches. When he’s not trying to put on airs, his true self comes out.

When he talks of democracy, freedoms, etc, he means apparently only what he sees it as. When he pushes Greens, instead of just Dem’s, he meant only HIS choice. He doesn’t send out shared emails on environmental issues, maybe because it might interfere with a candidate he’s pushing. But lastnight became clear his disguise. I sent only the 2nd anti Obama email to him, it was the Native Americans Against Obama and that’s all the email contained, two short lines of introduction with the link. He responded with “f@ck you”. Auh yes, the true temperament of a debout Obamabot. If his list only knew of his bias and filtering of news, I’m sure would change his standing. Maybe that’s why he send me about 3 or 4 more emails after that.

Me thinks these folks would be a lot happier and less angry if they joined the rest of us in the REAL world.

  • roseeriter

    I would like that also!

I am so tired of America being divided because of stupid party loyalty. We basically really all want the same thing- that the congress works for US, do the job they’re elected (not selected)to do and learn to compromise.

I take your arguement an up you one. Since when did the Clintons become the evil scum that some fellow demorats suggested they were in the Primary. Isn’t that along the same lines of your argument. See thats the problem with the Obama camps arguments that are vague and generalized. Here I can prove it:

    Catherine,
To me, the most absurd part of this whole epic nightmare is the way in which Obama has been reimagined by some as a black hero of sorts, a marginalized “victim” against the establishment. Un-fucking-believable.

See how that works, Now, I want you to tell me, Policy wise, why is Obama better than Hillary? What specific thing has Obama done in Congress that makes him better than Her? And there in lies the crutch. You dare critize someone for supporting a canidate based on Sentiment, when that all you have in Obama, is some IMAGE of how he is, without any action to back it up. No I don’t think so.

  • HillaryFan2012

EXACTLY! ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO GOT SICK OR DIED WERE OBAMA SUPPORTERS! THERE’S NO OTHER EXPLANATION!

WHY HASN’T THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA PICKED UP ON THAT?

LARRY, YOU SHOULD WRITE A PIECE ABOUT HOW ALL THESE PRO-OBAMA PEOPLE ARE DYING!

I’LL BET YOU WOULD FIND OUT THAT OBAMA AND HIS CHICAGO THUGS ARE ACTUALLY SECRETLY HAVING THEM MURDERED. DID THEY DO AN AUTOPSY ON RUSSERT? HE COULD HAVE BEEN POISONED, NOT HAD A HEART ATTACK LIKE THEY SAID?

THE MEDIA SILENCE ON ALL THESE DEAD OBAMA SUPPORTERS COULD JUST BE ANOTHER WAY THAT THE MSM IS HELPING OBAMA!

If the Democrat Party wishes to restore its true principals by selecting Clinton in Denver they will have a chance. If they do not the Party will become an American Icon of Racial and Sexist Discord. I have been turned off. I don’t believe I will ever be turned back for them. It would take a Public Apology on every network and the resignation of Dean, Pelosi, Obama and Brazille. They destroyed a legacey of belief they were the party for middle working class America. They WERE OUR VOICE….. NOW WE HAVE FOUND OUR OWN AND FOR THAT I SAY THANK YOU, I AM PROUD TO BE A PUMA AND PROUD TO NOW STAND UP AND SAY ELECT JOHN MCCAIN HE IS HAS PUT HIS COUNTRY FIRST AND WILL PROTECT OUR CIVIL LIBERTIES INSTEAD OF HAVING THEM LOST TO MAN WHO VERY WELL COULD BE A COMMUNIST OR ISLAMIC MOLE. NO THANK YOU TO OBAMA.

What bothers me worst is that Obama (and Pelosi) are giving environmentalism a bad name. I’m pretty latte (on a herb tea budget), I’m against offshore drilling etc, I think someone who grew up in a multi-cultural out of US environment would have a great perspective — but Obama is trashing all that with his cheating and destructiveness and cruelty. And we’ve got to clean out the DNC.

I hope my vote against Obama won’t be taken as endorsement of the Harley flag gang. If the race isn’t close in my state, maybe I should vote Green.

  • cdo

actually i perfectly understand why the clintons are doing what they are doing.
like a soldier who may not like his c-i-c, he has sworn to honor the office, not the individual who holds it.
the clintons are loyal, life long democrats. they are not supporting obama himself or even howard dean, they are supporting a party they love and whose ideals they cherish. since they are leaders in that party, this is what they must do.
however much i admire the clintons, i will not follow them on this because i am not a sheep. i can not be coerced, intimidated or bought. and i am far from alone. good luck in november, you will need it.

  • RepublicanChick

Thank you for your insight Bud. I was trying to read all the “Pearl Harbor” posts, but a lot of it seemed repetitive after awhile.

A few thoughts this Sunday afternoon.

Who vetted candidate Barack Obama? Surely someone in the Dummies leadership knew there would be questions. They have paid political analysts and researchers to “dig” up all the information that could possibly be harmful to the candidates. As been pointed out by many, the Republicans would do an effective job of finding that information out. Better to be on the offensive than defensive side of any issues the Republicans would bring forth.

If the claims turn out to be true regarding his citizenship or birth certificate, then I believe the right thing to do for the Dummies is for the leadership to step down. It isn’t just a matter of removing Barack Obama, but also the people most responsible for betraying Democratic voters across this country.

For the Republicans, I do not believe they’re obligated to release this information. If the Dummies leadership put forth a candidate that was ineligible, it behooves them to bring the information forth. In not doing so, they will forever tarnish the Democratic Party. Also, I don’t believe John McCain wants to go down this road personally—especially having his own citizenship status questioned.

The question then comes down to this:

How is Barack Obama going to get out of this?

I can see this happening and it sickens me, but I think Barack Obama has the upperhand in this situation. I don’t want to think it, but I have a feeling it’s going to happen:

Congress will hold a session to declare Barack Obama a legal citizen and eligible to run for President of the United States. In doing so, John McCain will look like an ass if he doesn’t vote in favor since Obama did the same for him earlier in the year.

In truth, Barack will come out smelling like roses. It isn’t what anyone wants to hear and I most certainly don’t want to go down this path.

Don’t be surprised if it happens. If they do, we will have been screwed by both parties and the American people will have lost again.

Just been noticing that Obama supporters seem to have more people who only know how to say nasty words, no substance and then a few who are pretending to be Hillary fans using fowl language to make the true supporters equal their nastiness. It is easy to spot.

True Hillary supporters love their country and have only positive love to share but just can’t vote for Obama to ruin the country.

    Loved the article above.

Finally! A post that makes sense

  • JozefAL

Given the way Obama and the Democrats attacked Hillary using much of the same RIGHT-WING talking points (especially on health care), I don’t see much of a problem with the use of “Democrat Party”.

  • PKJayne

Otherwise PUMA will be my voice from here on in.

Rose I have been thinking about this lately. I am seriously hoping that even after Nov 4th Puma efforts do not stop.

I have never witnessed such blatant disregard for constiuents as I have seen the last three months. This goes from Donna Brazille making the comment about where else do they have to …to Howard Dean saying a few days after the last primary they need to get over it. I am a constiuent and these hacks work for me.

I know I have said this a few times before…..there is a silent dissention from the rank and file Democrats. These folks are not PUMA members. They don’t do the blogs. But somewhere in their inner self they know the party was victimized by a smooth operating machine that had a serious game plan from day one. I just have to look at family and friends who are staunch Dems and hear them rebuff voting for Barry to know this.

I think the facts out there speak for Themselves, barry has never won a real race for a seat in Government. He was groomed from day one to take it at all costs. Whether it be having peeps tossed from the ballot to basically running uncontested as he pretty much was for US Senate. Alan Keyes was a last ditch effort by the GOP that they knew wasn’t going to win.

The point I am getting at is there is more work needs to be done. After the dust settles Nov 5th we need to keep fighting for ourselves and the future of the Dem Party. If that doesn’t work we may be strong enough to become that third party so many have been wishing for in years gone by.

Puma is clearly a thorn in Dean and Brazilles side, I say we need to keep sticking it to them.

    Just my thoughts.

    PUMA!

  • Linda

But this movement has a twist: Obama lacks legitimacy

And that is the point I’ve been making across the blogosphere, PUMA represents the millions who will not give the DNC/BO their “sanction of the victim”.

I believe this is the ONE THING they never saw coming and the one thing they failed to manipulate. Of course, Hillary was the reason, they thought the race would be over in February (that was the headlines wasn’t it, and that’s what they STILL continue to pitch) but HRC came roaring back defeating the Precious in the popular vote!

and THAT my friends gave us our courage, our ability to refuse to sanction their fraud! And without out our acquiescence to their fraud….THEY CAN’T SELL THE PRECIOUS.

If SDs who know better don’t stand up at the convention…they are sanctioning the DNC/OBAMA fraud. The DNC/BO have ways of pressuring them.

but us PUMAs, well they have no leverage of any kind. Their arguments about the dangers of a McCain presidency fly in the face of what we know about the checks and balances of divided government (if the Dems grow a spine). We clearly understand the very real danger of putting a Dem Congress under the leadership of a corrupt, pandering, meritless, inept Chicago politician who may have already broken this politcal party for decades in his premature attempt to install himself into power.

  • kavala007

Thanks for summarizing the reasons why many will simply not vote for the selected one.

Let Dean, Brazile, Pelosi, and the DNC call us racist it does not bother me since it appears they have redefined the word. I am still a bit hazy on their definition of the word. It could be that a racist to them means “those who believe in democracy and want the person who has the most votes in an election and is also the most qualified to be the President of the United States.” On the other hand it could mean those “who will not sit down, shut up and get over it since we have chosen the nominee”.

Congress couldn’t do anything about it. If there is a challenge to McCain or Obama, it would be the US Supreme Court that would have to make a ruling on Article II Section 1 “..Natural born citizen”. What does that mean??

  • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

If Obama’s legal name is Barry Sereto (sp?) then Obama has numerous problems starting with his being stripped of his US Senate seat and the fall out will continue a downward spiral from there, including his marriage being false and any legal work he’s done becomes void.

Not to mention all the fraud charges he will be facing.

Sorry, but I doubt the Supreme Court will delve into this area regarding Barack Obama’s “natural born citizen” status.

Let me put this scenario forward to you:

The Senate decides to return the favor for Barack Obama (regardless that his situation is completely different than John McCain).

While it has no legal bearing, the vote will be highlighted on every major news outlet in this country and abroad. Many Americans will see this issue as resolved because quite frankly not enough Americans even know or care about the US Constitution–the Patriot Act and FISA are two things that come to mind.

It is important that PUMAs, moderates, Republicans, Democrats, and Undecideds remove this option completely. Our voice needs to be heard louder and stronger than the other side.

Remember, laws and articles of the constitution won’t matter to many Barack Obama supporters and he basically has enough cheerleaders in the media and elsewhere willing to help him out of this problem.

  • pcbedamned

I could never understand the ‘progressives’ obsession with Bambam. If one actually listened to his plans (but then I guess that would be impossible do to the all the screaming and fainting) you could hear that he does not seem to stand for what most progressives believe. Never did he promise ‘universal health care’. (from my understanding). He advocated ‘affordable’ health care. Hillary is the only one of whom promised actual health care for all. Yes, he wants our of Iraq, but he wants to put the troops into Afghanistan. Trading boys dying in one county for another. He has brought racism to the front pages unlike anything I have ever seen in my lifetime. His associations with the radicals he surrounds himself with SHOULD be enough to scare the hell out of everyone.
You know, I never thought that Americans could be any dumber than electing Bush for a second term. If Bambam is elected prez, he will Bush look like the ‘good ol’ days’. The secrecy and back door dealings of this man is very scary indeed…

  • pcbedamned

That should read ‘make Bush look like the ‘good ol’ days’.

  • RepublicanChick

Again Mel, who vetted this man that is currently the Democratic nominee for President?

In my opinion, Barack Obama isn’t and shouldn’t be the only one to take the fall if everything provens to be true. Obviously, he had help in his deceptions and they should be held accountable.

No one on the DNC leadership can tell you, me, or anyone else on here that they were completely ignorant about his citizenship status. The question is how much did they know and when did they know it?

  • HARP

Pelosi won`t call back congress to solve the energy crisis. Americans would be livid if she called them back for something that the DNC should have forseen.

Obama: messiah in his own eyes

Obama’s campaign speeches reveal that he has finally convinced himself that he is, indeed, another “messiah.” Month by month, his rhetoric has grown from confident, to tyrannical. “I will issue rebate checks to help you with the price of gasoline…” he says, with no regard for what Congress might say.

“I will tax the oil company profits…” as if some celestial power anointed him with the authority to impose taxes when and where he sees fit.

  • Dan L

I can read typobese very well…more to the point..she’s RIGHT!

  • roseeriter

One thing the DNC did was underestimate half of the party. They figured that we as a whole were so ANGRY etc., at Bush that we would walk lock-step to the voting booth. That would have happened if Obama was minutely honest and qualified, but he is not. As far as the Vetting, my guess is they used the same reasoning to skim through the process IF they even did that.

As divided as we’ve become politically red/blue, it is heartwarming to see that REAL Americans who believe in Country before Sheeple Party Loyalty is still alive and well. That is one of the more positive things to have come out of this fiasco, at least for me.

  • AX10

    True.
We need to emphasize that Obama cannot be the President under legitimate terms.

  • RepublicanChick

    HARP:

Americans should be livid Congress hasn’t already been called back to solve the energy crisis, but again what is in it for her? Is it in her best interest to solve the energy crisis with a Republican at the helm or wait it out until Obama becomes President?

The fact the Democratic led Congress has even lower approval ratings than President Bush doesn’t seem to bother her in the slightest. She’s still playing these political games. If Obama falls, she should as well.

I agree with everything written. It is absolutely necessary that he be defeated. And I am not a PUMA. And this really has nothing to do with Hillary’s campaign IMO.

  • JozefAL

    Bud, you wrote

Actually, the last statement contradicts your opening sentence. The fact is that, with hindsight, Goldwater’s defeat in 1964 actually planted the seed of the conservative backlash of the 1980s. While conservatives weren’t too thrilled with Nixon (and much less thrilled with Ford–Reagan did run in 1976 for the Republican nomination as the conservatives’ favorite), they accepted Nixon’s victory as a half-step towards their ultimate vision of a conservative American nation.
Also, I hesitate to use the term “neo-liberal” in the sense that you appear to use it. The neo-conservative movement was made up of former hard leftists (even Marxist and Stalinist ideologues) who switched to a similarly extreme/radical right-wing worldview. I don’t see how the current crop of leaders in the Democratic Party switched their views in a similar (albeit reversed) direction.
Then, there’s the actual term “progressive”. That word only became used after the word “liberal” had become a pejorative thanks to a quarter century of Republican and neocon usage. At the core, progressives share the same basic value system that defined “liberal” from FDR on.

  • HARP

Mr. Johnson: Would you please define the terms neo-liberal in comparison to FDR progressives and Woodrow Wilson progressives. I looked up the term in Wekipedia. However, I’m not sure I know the meaning, differences or nuances in meaning that you are using. I am thinking about writing an article about Unity08 (which I joined early on)and how the media has let everyone down and what we all have in common. The media has let conservatives down, Bush supporters down, military supporters down, Clinton supporters down, Democrats down, Republicans down, Independents, Voters and every other American. I enjoyed your article and I appreciate everything that you are doing to support Sen. Clinton. I don’t have a candidate in this race – other than I will vote for whoever will stop Obama.

Excellent article, Bud. I agree with everything you said 100%. What I’m most disappointed in are the supposed Democrats who fought hard for Hillary and now say they must vote for “him” (I can’t even say his name)”for the good of the party” and because “we have to elect a Democrat”. These were people who spoke out against “The One’s” campaign tactics and lies and the thugs at the caucuses and race baiting and then turned right around and embraced him! Then they have the gall to tell us we have no integrity and we don’t love our country and are bitter and angry and should “get over it”!

Sometimes you have to stand up for what is right and decent and honorable. You have to take a stand! It may hurt in the short term but make things better in the long term. By allowing this kind of behavior from our own party (well, my FORMER party, since I’ve re-registered UNDECLARED) we are approving and I can’t accept that. I love my country, I am educated, I read and study the issues, I’m of sound mind, I’m not a lunatic, I’m an average, working, middle-class voter with an average life.

My former party is corrupt through and through and didn’t even try to hide it – it was open for all to see. They said they didn’t want me or others like me anymore. Money and power meant more to the delegates than integrity, honesty, loyalty, their constituents or most of all, country. I will NEVER forget or forgive that.

I will not vote for a man who believes in Black Liberation Theology (anti-white, anti-semetic, anti-American). That is being swept under the rug – why is no one talking about that? Would you vote for someone who is a member of the KKK? That one thing disqualifies him. BUT, there are so many other issues with him, as well – his terrorist friends, his campaign tactics, his arrogance, his lack of qualifications.

I will vote John McCain as a protest vote – my first Republican vote in my entire life and no amount of shaming from those anti-Democratic Party backstabbers will change my mind.

THE MSM WILL NEVER REPORT THAT IF YOU COUNT WOMEN OVER 55 (I.E. REAL DEMOCRATS) TWICE, HILLARY ACTUALLY GOT 23 MILLION VOTES AND BLEW OBAMA OUT OF THE WATER!

THESE ARE VITAL ISSUES FOR THE 2008 CAMPAIGN, AND THE MEDIA IS IN THE POCKET OF THEY’RE HERO JOKE-BAMA SO THEY WON’T REPORT ON ANYTHING THAT MATTERS!

here’s a little skit for you – replacing the word RACE with TALL

candidate – blah, blah, blah, blah did I mention I am tall? Blah, blah, blah, blah and I’m tall, blah blah, but don’t let them scare you about TALL people. You know what they SAY about TALL PEOPLE and did I mention I am tall?
    (after the show)
viewer 1 – damn he can go on and I don’t CARE if he’s tall

viewer 2 – damn he can go ON, so do you think he’s TOO TALL?

viewer 3 – damn tall ass freak!

(had he never mentioned being TALL)

viewer 1 – damn he can go on

viewer 2 – damn that was almost too long, something looked funny

viewer 3 – damn tall ass freak sure can go ON!

    lol

agree…this is no longer about Hillary. She has kissed the ring, maybe not enthusiastically. And the Precious and his minions don’t understand why so many of her supporters went PUMA. But that’s why he, the talking heads and the bots continue to hammer on her as though she is responsible.

And that is what they didn’t figure on. The one thing they were unable to bribe, manipulate or assault… millions of voters willing to say NO, WE WILL NOT SANCTION YOUR CORRUPTION OF OUR PROCESS.

And that has nothing to do with Hillary. Yet she is the only one they have to hammer for our refusal to submit.

Hmmmmm…is it possible that the Dems actually want to lose the White House this time, because they suspect that the economy will go belly-up during the next Administration, and so the Dems would prefer to have a member of the elephant party take the lion’s share of the blame?

remove the fraudulent caucuses, remove the RBCs heavy and unfair handling for FL & MI (delayed until the bloody end) and the stunning silence of the DNC as the DNC TRASHED HRC for being a woman (they didn’t have anything else and dont tell me Bosnia because why didn’t Barry O get equal time for not knowing how many states were in the union!).

when you factor that into the count, Barry O would have been a 3rd rate finisher

    RepublicanChick,

You raise a point that is separate from a “party” perspective. It is completely in the realm of possible that the House would seek to not take their constitutional obligations seriously. That is nothing new, sadly.

These are conditions that the center right and left have in common, with the deep force of cultural awareness behind it.

Many people have stated a desire to hide from the fact that it is not the leaders of the political parties alone. It is, from top to bottom, a portrait of an inability for the voices that DO speak truth to power to be heard and not maligned or overtly silenced.

That is not possible without the tacit aversion by the majority of the rank and file to basic facts, as much as a “close encounter of the third kind” it is.

  • http://lnab.newsvine.com/ Linda

I’ve just scrolled through 3/4 of these posts and not seen one foul word connected with an obama/bot description or reference

maybe your uncomfortable with the words, zealot, pandering, inept, corrupt, evil being associated with them but really, those aren’t foul language, just accurate reporting on the behavior of the campaign and his followers.. like you

  • Eidnoreid

You mean like the sexist, mysogenic, race-baiting assaults that obama supporters have attacked many hillary supporters with?

  • RepublicanChick

As we’ve already seen through this past primary season, it is irrelevant whether or not John McCain’s situation is different. Hillary Clinton is the prime example of what happens when you stand up and question Obama.

Is it irrelevant that she won more votes?

Is it irrelevant that she won more delegates?

Is it irrelevant that Michigan and Florida delegates were not seated before the primary season was over?

If they can “steal” the nomination away from her, do you think a matter of his citizenship is going to be a big deal to Obama’s camp? Doubtful.

What I’m trying to point out is that absolutely nothing (rules, bylaws, Constitution) stops Obama and his minions. Even if they’re caught, very few people even notice because the media won’t cover it.

We’re the silent majority in this country gardenvariety and we need to make damn sure that Obama and those that are aiding him are held to the same standards as everyone else.

  • TeakwoodKite

legal work he’s done becomes void.

You mean that the defendant that BO got off for a 200 dollar fine, for lack of heat, would be reversed?

What a thing of beauty it would be to see the one loose thread get yanked and the whole house of cards come tumbeling down.

  • RepublicanChick

I believe most people know that, but it didn’t stop his (McCain) birth from becoming an issue.

We need to be prepared for what is going to happen when Obama and his cheerleaders are backed into a corner. I don’t trust him and his political machine.

  • http://msnGodhelpusall Lee M

When George Washington convened the Continental Congress (convention) to draft the Declaration of Independence, he was urged by John Jay to be sure to insert a clause protecting the office of the President from anyone who had unusual ties to another country or nation. Thus the term “natural born citizen”. They meant someone whose alliance was soley to the United States. At the time of the signing of the declaration, there were many people in the country whose allegience was actually to another country.

  • RepublicanChick

    roseeriter & Teakwood:

For love of our country and that’s what it comes down to for me. And through this political process this season, I’m proud to find others on the “other” side that feel equally as passionate about this country. Thank you Obama for uniting Americans against you!

There are things that will keep me on opposites of many Democrats on social and fiscal issues. However, if Obama feels he’s going to hoodwink us—he’s about to have his world rocked.

  • RepublicanChick

My faith in Congress right now is at zero. Nancy is too busy selling her hypocritical book and the rest of Congress is also busy trying to secure their jobs for the next two years.

Throw all the bums out. Require anyone new coming into Congress to read the Constitution first.

    Bud, you said it all.

I’ve been telling my left-leaning friends the same thing for months.

Most of Americans loves the Clintons. I repeat, most Americans loves the Clintons. There is a tiny amount amount of people who HATE the Clintons and these tiny amount of people who hate the Clintons think everyone else hates the Clintons.

The Democratic Party missed the last 25 years! Women started thinking for themselves, supporting themselves, investing their money, educating their families, and apparently Pelosi was “too” busy to notice!
When they can dismiss our votes or think we will SKULK back in the door, they can be proven wrong!
They are welcome to watch me vote for the other party!

  • Tristan

Obamabots try to link McCain to Bush every chance they get. I think Obama is a lot closer to Pelosi than McCain to Bush.

  • Tristan

Pumas, don’t take the bait. Notice that Obamabots throw out all these “fake” reasons why people don’t support Obama, like he’s black or has a funny name or whatever.

You forgot to mention the real reasons nobody with any intelligence is voting for him: Because he has no EXPERIENCE and no INTEGRITY and having someone like that in the office of president is DANGEROUS. So yes, Republicans will use fear against Obama, but it’s a legitimate fear – that with the economy and the world the way it is, you need someone with some experience and values in the office, and Obama has neither.

Hilary said it herself – she’s qualified and McCain’s qualified. Richardson and Biden would have been qualified. Obama? Maybe in four more years in the Senate plus a term as Governor he’d be ready.

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/PaulFVillarreal Paul F. Villarreal

Great writing, Bud. And I agree with all of it.

Obama MUST be defeated in order to empty our rotting party of it’s worst elements and remake it.

Obama needs to be defeated, and he will be defeated. Hillary must not sign on to be this moron’s VP candidate if he is nominated. If she does not, I am almost certain he will be defeated in November if the DNC stooges foolishly select him.

  • http://democratsforrealchange.info Dr. bobbi Anne White

the breaking news from Rocky Mountain News is that Michelle Obama will be the opening speaker for the DNC!

    such presumptuousness!

  • Check077

If Congress were to pass a bill to qualify Barack Obama as a citizen if in fact he is not, then, that would constitute an unconstitutional act similar to what was done for Terry Shiavo.

If Democrats objected to personal matters in a Life and Death situation, how could they even dare qualify someone who has not taken the legal steps to become a citizen. Even so, if he was to become a naturalized citizen, it would not be fair to others (i.e., Arnold Swartzenegger). *It is inappropriate for Congress to start to pass and make single/individuals laws for specific persons. This along could be challenged in the U.S. Courts on grounds of unconstitutionality.

If he’s not a legally born citizen, he can not run for the office of the president of the United States: Period. They may have different standards elsewhere but not in the United States.

I don’t think that Pelosi was “too” busy to notice! What I think Nancy Pelosi doesn’t care. She puts up a good front now on her website. It’s all about the money for her-Howard Dean,EWW HE IS SUCH A LOW LIFE.As Donna put her durties on the side line to set this election up.1932 she knew and the movie The West Wing(rerun )was wriiten by David Axerol.Go figure. But they have it backwards-It’s Hillary is the one that the democratic Party took this party as Donna Brazile said”I may have to hurt the party before we can unity” So she and others blamed it on Hillary when all Hillary was doing out there doing an honesty-fair campaign.Hillary won. It’s just the 1932 was replayed again in this race.Delegates were not giving in the amount in states Hillary won.Delegates were stolen.people underage voted-people in Mississippi voted no ID’S-People went to other towns and voted again and again and difd’t live in that town.People were threatren their lives-and more.Well I am not going to run and hide because of their threats. How dare they. And they did this for someone who they don’t even know but”Change”That’s what Bush did-That’s what the media did for Bush-They stole. The democratic party did this in 1932 and doing it now and they did it to one of their own and the people of the democratic party. Many have all ready left the dnc party.I did….I will not vote for Obama!!!!!!!!!!I will vote for Hillary or McCain. But any thing as such as little as Hillary or a set up well I am gone.It makes me sick to my stomach to see what is going on with the democratic party who is doing all this to the people and yes they blamed it on Hillary but it was the democratic party more of Donna Brazile-Obama-Howard Dean-Nancy peeee who did this.and they will stay hiden and the people will have to live with what they did in their lies and making the party divied. They cause all this threats coming from people-If anyone dies-I think that alll the ones who did this in the democratic party and any of the PEOPLE SHOULD BE HELD RESPONIBLE AND BE CHARGE FOR MURDER as same as the ones who did.

I just came to this site after watching “Hardball” , read a bit , and I have yet to collect my breath.
What’s with all the hate? Y’all might consider getting down from that high horse you’re on , and think a moment.
Do you really want to destroy the Democratic Party?
Do you really want more war , more debt , more “unitary executive” actions , more lobbyists writing legislation , more Supreme Court judges from the Federalist Society?
I won’t attempt to characterize the motives of the persons leading this group , but I will ask you who are giving them creedence to stop and think.
