Do they recall the attitude towards gays at that time period? Do they realize that "don't ask" was a good thing because before that....the military would ask "are you a homosexual?" and that question was enough to keep you out. If you lied, and were found out, you were guilty of being both a homosexual AND of lying. DADT didn't make it ok to be gay in the military, but it did make it illegal for anyone to ASK so you wouldn't have to LIE. (btw, Clinton took alot of heat because of DADT, the military hated him for it. He gained nothing politically, and lost quite a bit. He didn't have to do a damn thing on that issue, but he did something dammit) DADT is now thankfully somethng that needs to go...but not because it was bad to begin with, but because it served its purpose.
