I read the Commondreams blog -wow -they are unhinged ! So the author is a Pol Sci prof at Hofstra! Yikes ......He is unstable . Sure Obama voters can be disappointed but this swing is lunatical.

He could simply have said ...I made a mistake . My mistake was mine & mine only. But for a prof to diss Nixon as a war evader is treasonous to education Nixon was no such thing.I believe he served in the Pacific .

And besides without Richard Nixon ,how would we have WaterGATE , ClimateGATE etc. A marvellous advance in the english lnguage.

Congressional negotiators and White House officials are moving forward with plans to add the repeal of Don't Ask Don't Tell to the upcoming defense authorization bill, Democratic sources tell the Huffington Post.

Currently, there is no precise calendar to consider the defense authorization bill. But the administration is expected to put forward its recommendations in February with the House of Representatives considering the bill in late April or May

Skelton is an idiot! I cannot for the life of me understand why DADT hasn't yet been rescinded by Obama. He obviously never meant to do anything about it, and I don't think he ever will, unless his hand is forced. Other countries allowe gays and lesbians to serve openly in their military and they seem to be doing just fine. No catastrophes have occured because of it. Skelton is full of sh*t.

Rep. Marion Berry's parting shot, published in the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette [no link, subscription only] offers a warning to moderate Democrats and border state moderates — warning of a midterm bloodbath comparable to the 54-seat D-to-R swing in 1994.
But the jaw-dropper is Berry's claim that President Obama personally dismissed any comparison between Democrats now and under Bill Clinton 16 years ago — by saying his personal popularity would bail everybody out.
The retiring Berry, who doesn't say when the remarks were made, now scoffs at Obama's 50-or-below approval rating:

Crist still followed through with the marriage, of course, but in the year since, the pair have rarely been seen together. Most recently, Crist spent the evening of their first anniversary
in Palm Beach's Mar-a-Lago at a March of Dimes fundraiser, with wife Carole nowhere in sight, according to page2live.com

This after a year in which Rome bounced between visits to her kids in New York and her home on Fisher Island, while Crist stayed in Tallahassee or his home in Tampa Bay. Remember, Crist worked right through the couple's honeymoon.

When people are critical of Clinton over DADT, I have to wonder how old they were in the 80s. Do they recall the attitude towards gays at that time period? Do they realize that "don't ask" was a good thing because before that....the military would ask "are you a homosexual?" and that question was enough to keep you out. If you lied, and were found out, you were guilty of being both a homosexual AND of lying. DADT didn't make it ok to be gay in the military, but it did make it illegal for anyone to ASK so you wouldn't have to LIE.
(btw, Clinton took alot of heat because of DADT, the military hated him for it. He gained nothing politically, and lost quite a bit. He didn't have to do a damn thing on that issue, but he did something dammit)

DADT is now thankfully somethng that needs to go...but not because it was bad to begin with, but because it served its purpose. It helped bring an insanely homophobic military culture around to a more mature outlook.

As for John Avarois, he has been a complete horses ass on this topic for a long time. He has lambasted the Clintons for DADT, whiie breaking out the pom poms for Obama. And why? When did Obama pledge support for gays? There was only one candidate in the last election who had any interest at all in gay rights, and Avarois tore her to shreds. Daily.

When Obama was elected that was the end of Universal health coverage AND gay rights for at least 4 years. Neither of those will ever happen under his watch. And how this comes as a shock to his suporters I can not fathom for the life of me. I watched the same damn speeches they did.

As an "older" mid-westerner I have never felt it was any of my damn business who married who. Nor do I believe that we as a nation have any right to discriminate against people that want to serve based on their sexual orientation.

Skelton ought to be peeping through the blinds like some busybody and not be making laws that discriminate against American Citizens.

Some of us older mid-westerners are against discrimination no matter who's doing it to whom.

P: We know that today we must win. That’s why we are so grateful that 2,500 pastors have come out on consistent basis every month. If someone is going to vote no, we flip them to show that kids will be taught this in schools. We have spent thousands of dollars on polling. Continue to do so. In 1999, LDS got involved in Hawaii. With capital S, they were significantly involved. No different this time. Campaign will cost minimum of $25 million and LDS across this state deeply involved. Catholic Bishop in SD, three evangelical ministers from SD all got involved. Asked Focus on the Family for money. They sent us $50,000 that allowed us to get petitions printed. Thanks to you, we are here, we will win. Don’t pay attention to newspapers, we have secret weapon (or secret voters or something, but basically, the weapon is kids in school.)
CD: Flyer from California Family Council of which Mr. Prentice is CEO and Mr. Tam is involved. This is flyer that was produced during campaign. Any effort to distance campaign from knowledge or control, not credible.

Oh, brother. Is this a "give with the right hand, take away with the left hand" kind of thing?

The sad thing is, AT, plenty of people will fall for this crapola, just like they did the first time...
