Pick the Winner!

Which YouTube ad is best? This one?

Or this one?

if it will play, that is. It’s not up at YouTube, best I can tell. Right now, as I write this, the version at Politico.com won’t play, but I saw it on TV and … well … it was, to be kind, lame.

Jonathan Martin writes in “Obama finally responds to Celeb with Bush rap”:

Either Obama’s campaign didn’t quite know how to respond or didn’t initially think it necessary to push back against McCain’s “Celebrity” rap.

But now, two weeks later, they’re going on the air seeking to turn the attack around on the Republican, calling McCain “Washington’s biggest celebrity.” …

Ouch.

  • Andy

Pathetic kind of comes to mind ….

  • JohnnyB

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSpcxkKlEFA

Watch this ad. I think it is very strong.

  • Faustina

People know John McCain well enough to know that he cannot be labeled a “Washington celebrity”. The only people who will buy that message are the ones who have already overdosed on Kool-Aid.

Quit wasting your money Obama people.

  • MrMike

I get the same message as I did with the Paris Hilton bot-o-snark

We’re sorry, this video is no longer available

They’ll allow video’s of idiots proving Darwin’s theories with a bus but not this? Their servers have to be located in the United States. :)

Fox showed the first ad last night..LOL American Idol, maybe we can just phone or text our vote in in November??

can I say I think the second ad, helps BIG MAC?

I like the music I think he looks like an old fashioned man and it reminds me of the greatest generation (I am Gen X) and I really like it and it makes me like MAC more!

the first ad, the Waynes World clip MAKES it, totally!!

so IMO Obummer is still an empty celebrity suit and MAC looks like the old fashioned leaders we used to turn to..

Hmmm real weak there Axelrod, opened the door now for McCain to advertise Bambi voting for the Cheney/Bush oil tax give-a-way and the pork barrel money Bambi got for a museum for a Henry Crown wing and to secure Michelles new post at the UofC hospital.

Change yes, but not the kind you can believe in, just same old Chicago sewer politics.

  • Matthew Weaver

I don’t think the Obama ad is necessarily bad in a tit-for-tat way, but showing McCain with Leno and all is a bit different type of celebrity than what Obama has achieved. (Ah, one of his few accomplishments to date.) For the casual viewer, Obama’s ad may neutralize McCain’s.

  • KarenG

Obama camp had originally floated the story that Hillary would be the keynote speaker for the convention and would
speak on Tuesday, Lynn Sweet in the Chicago Sun Times today announced that is not true….Hillary will just be a speaker…..Mark Warner will follow her as the keynote speaker. So much for all the claims that they are giving her a lot of recogniton and honor and we should be happy with that.

  • Firefly

I like all of them – they made me laugh – laugh at bambi – others will too – and that’s a very good thing!

I think this is such a great tac for McCain to take – mocking the arrogant and “entitled” ruffles their peacock feathers and pisses ‘em off sooooo bad – McCain needs to keep it up – expand on it.

I’d like to see the McCain camp do an ad something like:

“He’s gained a reputation throughout the land as a great, inspirational, speaker, one who can CHANGE the world with just his words and the sound of his voice!”

Then clip after clip after clip of bambi’s typical “Uh…um….duh…let me say this!…uh…uh…..Just words!” (for about 5 minutes).

Then the voice-over: “Aren’t you ‘inspired’ to trust this man to be the leader of the free world?” (or something)

“I’m John McCain and I approve this message!”

  • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

If there is a floor vote for the nomination, Hillary cannot speak at all except for the nomination. So the point of her being a keynote speaker is a mute point right now, because the DNC rules do not permit a candidate for nomination to speak anytime prior to the nomination speeches before the floor vote.

  • leisa

I think Obama’s response add was immature, very much like sandbox politics… weak.

I do think McCain needs to now focus his adds on what he plans to do to help the country and let Obamabi hang out to dry for a while…

  • roseeriter

Google owns youtube and Google is in Obama’s pocket.
Also the reason why so many pro-Hillary and anti-Obama blogs have been dropped.

Also probably why Obama voted for FISA.

Google will control info and ‘freedom of speech” if Obama gets elected. Mark my words!

  • mystic4hillpuma

You can also see the first video at John McCain’s site:

    http://tinyurl.com/5pe8rn

  • For Impartial Journalism

    Both videos worked for me.

I also think the Obama ad works for McCain in some ways. It certainly makes him look energetic, happy, and busy — all things that go against the tired old man theme they had been playing up.

Of course, it gets those Bush tie-ins in there and it is another ad you have to be watching or just get the narrative lies. :(

McCain’s ad is super because you don’t have to be watching to get how deluded his supporters are. Their comments say it all! :)

  • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

Ad to run by McCain from Nov 1 to Nov 4th:

My opponent has employed a group called ACORN to assist in his bid to take the White House. This group has the magical ability to raise the dead to vote (as scenes of graves opening and ghosts going to voting stations)

So will the deadheads pick the next POTUS or will the living, it is up to you, get out and vote Nov 4th and let the dead folks remain silent.

I am John McCain and I approve this message!

  • Firefly

No way – McCain’s got barky on the defensive with his ads – and like everything else barry does, like when he followed Hillary in the debates, he shows he’s just a “me too” kinda guy – nothing original EVER comes outta him.

Plus, McCain’s got so much ammunition to throw at the corrupt fraud – and he ain’t even really started yet!

Just watch – “poor” Barky’s gonna very soon show just how peevish and outtasorts he can be – mocking doesn’t sit well when it’s aimed at “The One.”

  • yttik

The problem with the second video is that it makes McCain look good. They’ve given him youth, vigor, popularity. They’ve unintentionally portrayed him as having charisma and getting things done in DC.

  • HillGirl

    First vid no worky.

Second vid so lame. If he has been a celeb ‘for decades’, why are they showing him only as an old fart?

  • no waffles aka drkate

I pick McCain’s add as the winner.

Barky is trying that old theme to tie him to Bush, but the material that is available to tie Barky to bush is significant.

Barky’s add is lame, weak, and impotent.

  • Idiocracy08

  • http://www.lezident.com Lezident

The Obama ad has tighter editing and writing.

HOWEVER, the Obama ad is not believable….people just don’t believe that John McCain had been Hollywood’s biggest celebrity for decades. No one believes that Mccain is any kind of celebrity and the whole premise of the ad is just stupid.

On the other hand, the weakly edited McCain ad “Obama Fan Club” still rings true. Everyone knows Obama is a celebrity and everyone knows that his fans are fawning idiots. Everyone knows one or more of these idiots. Some of us are related to them.

So McCain wins this battle by a mile.

  • http://www.lezident.com Lezident

People just don’t believe that McCain is Washington’s biggest celebrity either….it’s just a silly premise…and it only makes McCain look lively and popular.

    Dumb move by Obama.

There are so many provable, straight-out LIES that barky’s told. Here’s hoping the RNC and the republican 527s have a field day with some of them.

They need to show him telling the whoppers, then come in with the voice-over telling the provable TRUTH.

I’m probably hoping for too much, but I wanna see these ads utter the word “LIAR,” which is the provable truth.

Or maybe we don’t even have to count on the republicans to run them – PUMAs and other non-republican groups against barky have money and resources for those things too!

FCC Commissioner: Return of Fairness Doctrine Could Control Web Content
McDowell warns reinstated powers could play in net neutrality debate, lead to government requiring balance on Web sites.

There’s a huge concern among conservative talk radio hosts that reinstatement of the Fairness Doctrine would all-but destroy the industry due to equal time constraints. But speech limits might not stop at radio. They could even be extended to include the Internet and “government dictating content policy.”

    Agreed.

The American people know who is getting the celebrity treatment in this country – and it isn’t John McCain.

Besides the fact that there is a big difference between someone famous for being famous — who has accomplished little yet already written two –count em– two memoirs, and a man who served his country, was a POW for five years and a Senater for decades.

WOW. Three Republicans are supporting Obama. They declared that they are picking Country over Party.

Question: Why can’t Sen Hillary Clinton pick Country over Party. She knows what kind of President Obama will be. She knows how inexperience Obama is. She cannot let the country led by either an inexperienced flip flopper nor by someone who is an extension of Pres Bush.

Doesn’t Sen Clinton love her country enough to fight for it? Doesn’t she love her followers enough to succumb to their wishes to run as an Independent? The way Obama has been flip flopping on issues plus his shady past is enough for Sen Clinton to say enough. I will run for the good of the Country. I don’t care about what the media says.

I wish the McCain people would use this one. I loved it when I first saw it. Best one out there imo.

  • pasmalltowngirl

Well, it seems that McCain needs to do one better than Obama. Since he is not only the celebrity of America, but of the entire world. He needs to do a celebrity video showing Obama embracing and being ADORED and ENDORSED by all of his radical, anti-American, terrorists associates ( Ayers, Wright, Rezco, Odinga, Farrahkan, etc., etc. etc.)who want to destroy our country.
I will most definitely vote for a man who has been apart of Washington politics for many many years. Not for a man who came out of no where, a man who will be as dangerous as his associates.

  • Hope Floats

The production quality is way better on McCain’s ads, so you know the Obama campaign cheaped out. They had to buy royalties for all that footage from SNL maybe, but this is the best Obama can do. He can call McCain “Bush” and make ageist jokes. McCain’s ads are funny, and Obama just hides from debates and “airs” his petty grievances like, “I’m not famous! YOU ARE.”

  • Hope Floats

Obama makes you hungry for Taco Bell!

  • Katmoon

The new thing I read about the Obama campaign is working on, is trying to smear Mccain for having affairs. Pendejos

  • Hope Floats

McCain needs to focus on policy and establishing he is different from Bush. He has the support of the base now, and he needs to appeal to undecideds. His VP pick will help here, too. I think he might choose Tim Pawlenty, but I could be wrong.

  • MaryPat

Just shows how thin-skinned Obama is. Trying to throw the “vapid celebrity” label back at McCain is idiotic. He was a POW, for crying out loud. Tortured within an inch of his life and left with permanent disabilities. Barry is a joke by comparison, and it looks like McCain’s “he’s the biggest celebrity in the world” ad did real damage.

Anyway, the whole video was just an excuse to pummel people with images of McCain with Bush. His “McCain is Bush’s third term” narrative is all he’s got. Problem is, voters would rather take a risk with Senator Experience than bet the arugula farm on Senator Empty Suit. Lots of bad-news friends at the farm, too.

  • paul_lukasiak

I suspect that there are reasons for McCain’s overkill on the Obama/celebrity thing. First of all, it gets under Obama’s skin — Obama has demonstrated an inability to react appropriately to criticism in public, and its not unlikely that he’ll screw up at some point as a result.

But the big reason is that when the criticism of McCain’s ads reach a critical mass, the McCain campaign can respond with an ad saying “hey, we know people are annoyed with those ads, but unfortunately, its impossible to criticize his record because he has no experience, and impossible to criticize his positions because he waffles and flip-flops so often by the time you’ve made an ad, he’s changed his position!”
