“An Open Letter To Hillary Clinton”

Here we are, the day of President Obama’s first State of the Union address. Oh, yippee. While Obama still enjoys a fair amount of support among Democrats, this man who claimed to be the big Uniter, rammed down our throats by the DNC over OUR choice, ain’t doing so well in the polls. But this particular one is especially ironic since the DNC claimed Hillary Clinton was too divisive, and would never get elected. Want to guess who has the largest differential between the two parties of any president EVER in his first year???? That’s right, that would be Obama. “That One” who claimed he would end partisan politics, change the tone in Washington, D.C., blah, blah, blah. Well, he has certainly done that – he has made it more divisive than it was before. Way to go, DNC!!! Way to pick them!

Maybe the DNC should have actually cared about who was voting for Hillary Clinton, who was crossing over party lines to support her. But no, they were hellbent on destroying her (and Bill), so now we have Obama. Great.

It is for that reason, the partisan, closed door meetings, the attempts to shove legislation down our throats we don’t want, and so many, many more, that Will Bower wrote the following, An Open Letter to Secretary Clinton: Save Us from Obama, for Huffington Post recently. I think many of us share Mr. Bower’s sentiment. He writes:

Madame Secretary Clinton,

It’s time for you to save your party — and your country — from Barack Obama.

You have been doing a remarkable job as Secretary of State, but now we need you as the new head of the Democratic Party … and as our next President of the United States.

I know that it would be virtually unprecedented for a party nomination to be handed to a challenger over an incumbent, but it was unprecedented in 2008 when the party apparatus selected their then preferred candidate over the will and popular vote of the Democratic majority.

You were the rightful candidate then, you are the rightful head of the Democratic Party today, and you would be taking your rightful place as the nominee and president you were meant to become.

Every warning and critique you gave us in regard to Barack Obama has come to fruition. You were correct in every debate, in every political advertisement, and in every interview.

We are where we are today because too many refused to listen to you.

Only Smart Power can save us now, and you are the perfect person to bring us that much needed commodity. Just log into Facebook and you’ll see the numerous “Hillary Clinton for 2012″ groups springing to new life. A multitude of your supporters are ready to bring about the change that was falsely promised by your opponent in 2008. You got more votes than he did in 2008, and you can get more votes than him again in 2012.

One might warn you that this would only serve to divide the party, leaving the presidency open to takeover by the opposition. Because of your steadfastness during this past primary season, you were given that same warning then, but your party went on to victory all the same.

We tried it their way then. Now, it’s time to try it your way.

In the upcoming midterm elections of 2010, your party will pay the price for its lack of vision. There is little to stop that now. Once that happens, more of a balance will be restored, and both your party and your country will be ready to move forward once again — with you at the helm — to a truly better future.

Thank you, Madame Secretary. We’ll be standing by.

Indeed we will. And if, for some reason, anyone needs a reminder as to why we supported Hillary Clinton in the first place, this video sums it up beautifully:

Let’s help Obama fulfill his dream of being a “really good one-term president” (when are you thinking about getting started on that “really good” part?) rather than a mediocre two-term president (though he may just qualify as a “mediocre one term president”). I think if we all work together, we CAN help him leave office in 2012, whether it is on a good note or not. Well, I’m thinking it will be the latter if Year One is any indicator. That is all the more reason to get someone in there who can LEAD, who cares about the country and the people in it, one who is truly a populist leader, not just one who is now trying to act like one. That would be Madame Secretary, no doubt about it. Yes, let’s make this just one term for Barack Obama.

Don’t you agree?

  • sheprez

    YES!!

  • jbjd

R3A, I am trying my best to ensure, this man will not even fill out his first term.  (Please, send all Texans you know to my blog.  http://jbjd.wordpress.com/2010/01/26/remember-the-alamo/)

    P.S.  Tears, yet again.

  • jangles

When is he going to start on that “mediocre” part for the first term?
This is a failed presidency.  Let us not swallow o’s hype that it is “mediocre”.

  • AC

I’m for the “one term” part–count me in!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I know, jbjd – I cannot watch any of those videos without crying…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Jangles, he’s claiming that he can have a pretty good first (one) term – that is his spin!  You know, with his “B+” grade giving and stuff, he doesn’t admit for one second that he hasn’t even reached the threshold of “mediocre.”  Wow…

  • oowawa

    HUFFINGTON POST?

Well, if I weren’t so loving and good-natured, I would gloat just a bit.

  • AC

I guess he graded himself at Harvard also.

  • AC

Ahhh,  go ahead and gloat.  You deserve it.

  • Khan Krum

Are you kidding me?  She is so tainted with the lies, filth, mud, etc. by compromising with Obama bin Biden that she can never be trusted again.  Never.

  • Katmoon

I think a remedy for anaphylaxis from any allergic reaction, is probably the same kind of grading scale for this term of president. If you keep being exposed to the allergin the remedy stops working. One does not get to congratulate themself for lying to the voters, and actively seeking to disempower the same. Yet he will throw out some cute talk tonight, and pretty up for those who will listen and believe; and we will be back here again within days seeking another remedy for yet another toxin he has tossed out so carlessly.

  • AC

Who do you hang out with Krum?

  • Craig Della Penna

Actually, I’m hoping he’ll resign before the end of his first term – it’s just no fun anymore, nobody likes him now and, besides, he’s already gotten what he wanted: they’ll all have to call him “Mr. President” from now on.
To somone who only sees the surface, that’s success, why do all that boring ‘work’ part?

  • IndayHill

Obama and his arrogant advisers have to go for the sake of the country ! Obama is NOT the rightful WH tenant.  Hillary won fair and square but lost to CHEATERS ! ACORN mob and corrupt politicians have stake on Obama. We are now drowning in this cesspool.HELP !! Hillary !

  • confused

that video brings tears to my eyes, and it also brings hope.  not just the word, but HOPE.

  • oowawa

I don’t know.  I can make up a rationale I can live with: Hillary accepted a position in the O administration because it was the best thing she could do for the USA.  An adult had to be at home somewhere so that the kids, who had been placed in charge, had less opportunity to burn the house down.  Does this work?  I’m conflicted.  We’ll see what happens.

  • AC

Yes it looks like a duck.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

By all means, oowawa – you are among friends here – gloat away! We are behind you!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

    ROTFLMAO…

  • AC

    It’s a duck

  • getfitnow

She told Tavis Smiley that she will serve as Sec of State for 4 years not 8.

  • Katmoon

The video makes me sad as well. I could have listened to 411 speeches from this woman. But, I digress, she would have been working as she has not just talking us to death.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Craig, that’s exactly what I was thinking earlier – he got what he wanted – the title, but now, people are actually expecting him to WORK, they complain when he runs around the country talking (campaigning) when just two years ago, they LOVED to hear his soaring rhetoric (bunch of ingrates), so he might as well pick up his marbles and go home – to Hawaii, not Chicago.  It’s too cold in Chicago, don’t you know…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I know, confused, me too – to see her speak, to see the responses of people to her, to hear stories from people who have had her help them, to think of what the DNC did to her is infuriating still…

But, if she would run in 2012, if she doesn’t go into retirement (and honestly, after all the woman has done, she deserves a break), that would bring me hope – real hope – for this country again…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Yes – and she will be on Tavis Smiley tonight at 8:00.  I can sure understand her not wanting to be Obama’s SOS for more than 4 yrs…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Ain’t that the truth, Katmoon??  That is exactly what she would have been doing – WORKING.

Like she is right now abroad, which, conveniently for her, means she doesn’t have to be sitting listening to Obama drone on with TOTUS…

  • Katherine B.

Breaking news.  Barry to ask Congress to repeal DODT in the STOU address tonight!!!!  He must be desperate to recapture the GLBT community.  He needs somebody to like him.  Of course, he could just issue an executive order, but this way it makes a big splash tonight, gets us all excited and then Congress can sit on it forever.

  • Alessandro Machi

Probably filled out his own birth certificate as well.

  • Diana L. C.

    RRRA,

In answer to the question you pose at the end of this post:  HELL, YES!

i agree with every part of Mr. Bower’s letter.

  • Alessandro Machi

HP will occasionally post a piece that if not on Huffington Post, would identify Huffington Post as one of the culprits against Hillary Clinton in 2008.

  • Khan Krum

Do none of you remember the dirty tricks the Obots used in stealing the nomination, e.g., caucus fraud, extremely dirty tricks and intimidation like bringing up the Lewinsky saga when Chelsea campaigned for her mother?!  Hillary had a chance to really expose Obama for what he is during the last days of the campaign but remained silent so that she could get a position of power in his corrupt socialist administration.  Helping Obama hurts the USA.

  • Alessandro Machi

Yep, that there Hillary actually not only caused the war in Iraq, she led the charge, planted the flag, and even toppled the saddam statue by herself.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I am not surprised, to be honest.  This has become the status quo with him – not actually change anything, just SAY he’s going to do it.  He could have done this MONTHS ago, with the Congress.  He even has generals teling him it should be repealed.  So, what’s been the hold up?

Once again, the GLBT community will be thrown a bone so we’ll quit complaining and open up our wallets.  We’l see how that goes…

  • AC

He could call Larry Sinclair for validation.

  • Katmoon

Ahh yep, and never will forget, not that we could because that savagery carried over to her supporters as it does to this day, demanding we think or feel a certain way about SOS Clinton. For myself, I can promise I will always feel a certain way about all and any who shopped in the sewer to cause her harm. I expected a fight, a good discourse, not a free for all on one woman, for the “fun” of it.
The biggest pain for our country is this administration and followers, as well as anyone in any party who thinks they own the answer, and must be followed drum beat after drum beat.  My vote belongs to me not any party or any other person unless I choose to give it to them. There are no drums that carry a tune I wish to follow.

  • PortiaElizabeth

I just hear about this. Is it a dog whistle to PUMAs???

  • PortiaElizabeth

    heard!

  • Anonymous

    Amy,

The polling numbers you quote  really do not say much in terms of being negative for Obama. It really says more about Republicans.

    From Gallup:

“Thus, the extraordinary level of polarization in Obama’s first year in office is a combination of declining support from Republicans coupled with high and sustained approval from Democrats. In fact, his 88% average approval rating from his own party’s supporters is exceeded only by George W. Bush’s 92% during Bush’s first year in office. Obama’s 23% approval among supporters of the opposition party matches Bill Clinton’s for the lowest for a first-year president. But Clinton was less popular among Democrats than Obama has been to date, making Obama’s ratings more polarized.”

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/125345/Obama-Approval-Polarized-First-Year-President.aspx

What they say are that Obama is incredibly well like among democrats. In fact, the most well liked president among democrats in his first year ever. So a very big part of the gap between conservatives and democrats approval for him is just because he is so well likely by democrats.

Now the fact that alot of republicans don’t like him should not be a surprise. In fact, as per above the next president with the lowest approval after the first year with Republicans was Bill Clinton. That makes sense, as Republicans generally can never stand a democratic president. It also, says that historically democrats are more tolerate of Republican presidents.

Means that Republicans are just bigger sore losers. So screw you Republicans! In this new world of hate radio and FOX it should not be surprising that Republicans will always reject a democrat, no matter what he does. It is all hate, all the time on the right!

Given that Bill Clinton was hated by Republicans almost as much as Obama is, I am sure Hillary would have be hated just as much.

  • PortiaElizabeth

Amy — thank you so much for posting this letter! I don’t like to get my hands dirty by going to HuffPO, so I wouldn’t've seen it otherwise. Is that the same Will Bower who in 2008 appeared on cable as a PUMA spokesman?

I’m not watching the videos. Too painful, judging by other comments. I have my memories and my Hillary t-shirts and coffee mug to hold me ’til 2012.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oh, yes, we most definitely remember what happened in the election – ALL of it.  Hence my departure as a lifelong Dem from the DNC party.

That being said, Hillary and Bill have always been big on the party, and big on working for the country.  If Hillary wasn’t the SOS, who would Obama have picked?  And would they have been anywhere NEAR as competent as she is representing our country abroad?  I daresay, the answer is no.  She is the BEST person for this role, even if it is in Obama’s Admin.  He doesn’t deserve the position he has in any way, shape or form – but the thought of four years WITHOUT someone like Hillary in a leadership position is even more frightening…

I understand your frustration, though, KK, I do…

I guess I could have just said, “What Katmoon said.”

  • Khan Krum

Thanks.  I guess what I’m trying to say is that I wanted her to tell him something like this: “You can kiss my ass, if you can leap up that far.”

  • armymom

    Geeeez, put down the kool-aid.
Obama is polarizing, what part don’t you get?

  • PortiaElizabeth

Do we remember, Khan? Are you even remotely familiar with this site? We will NEVER forget! And don’t think for even one second that Hillary has forgotten. The Chinese have a saying: “Ten years is not too long to wait to get revenge.” We will wait and we will have satisfaction. The Chinese have another saying: “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.”

    Now do you understand?

  • Docelder

Good luck with the koolaid tonight. It’s going to be happy hour and koolaid is buy none and get two free.

  • Katmoon

Oh, I really like that saying. O:-)

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

That is fantastic – I’m going to have to remember that…

  • Nathan Finkelstein

I can’t wait for the State of the Union Address to start – our president will swoop on all the nay-sayer neocons and white fanatics and blow America away with his rhetoric, wisdom and love.

All the white supremacist tobacco chewing bible thumpers and racist NRA members don’t even know what will hit them. This is going to be a 50-state sweep, including the disenfranchised people of Mass who’s votes were stolen.

Obama is preparing a presentation and a package that will be equal to the final battle of Avatar: he will destroy all the Rethuglican fascists and will let the people of color, Mexicans and Black united by socialism, to uplift this nation out of the ravages of capitalism. Obama will carry us like a hawk to Valhalla.

I can’t wait! I bet in the end all the Repugnicans, and that treacherous Joe Lieberman and wannabee Hillary Clinton will stand in line to polish his shoes, and kiss them. Tonight it will be the greatest show on earth, where even the dumbest tea-baggers will have their eyes opened with the power of progressive light..

How stupid are people to whine about jobs and whatever, when we are being led into a shining future of equality and love? And when we have socialism, we will not care about jobs or the stock market because fat-cats like Bill Gates and Carl Rove will pay for everything, and we will be free to engage in the arts and in antique shopping and other activities that until now you heard only on NPR.

After tonight Keith Olbermann will feel like he boned everybody’s mother and Chris Matthews will feel not just a tingle up his leg, but a 2500 volt joy-zap. And I hope after tonight the White House finally hires Rachel Maddow to be Gibbs’ assistant. That chick is HAWT!

No person in the history of this nation has or will make America better as much as President Barack H. Obama.

  • PizzaDriver

yep; saying and doing are two different things.  i’ll believe it when DADT is gone.

  • NYSmike

Kind of goes with the territory….the DNC didn’t care about the votes of the people, and the man they selected carries that thru in his presidency, overriding the concerns of the people.

Now, he wants to be a populist?

  • Yisroel Kupferberg

What Obama needs is to get on the campaign trail and do a coast-to-coast on a bus and talk with Americans and explain to them how his progressive agenda will make us a better nation. He is so busy he is never enough on TV or on magazine covers and neither is his wife. They should be more in public, explaining to intellect-challenged people how they will be fixing this country after the damage that bumbling fool George Bush did.
And he should invite world leaders to the White House, like Chavez, Castro, Ahmadenijad, Idi Amin, Yasser Arafat and Jimmy Carter and get their input and advice. We need more friends in the world stage. Obama needs to hang out with winners.
And pass the health care bill! Free health care to all!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

You and me, both, Pizza Driver!

And AC, you are just cracking me up!

  • Anonymous

And what don’t you get about the fact that Democrats DID lose members over the primary.  Many on this site and other are like me.  I was a Dem, had voted Dem since I could first vote in ’72.  After the primary, I changed my affiliation to “unaffiliated.”  You may think we don’t matter, but we have inclreased the number of independents dramatically.  Try to understand that Brown’s win is reflective of how independents will vote.  Not once in his acceptance speech, did Brown mention the R word.

  • Anonymous

If this is not a satire, then you, Nathan Finkelstein, need a straight jacket.  The Kool-aid has really affected your brain negatively.

  • Mary in MN

Something tells me that the opinions of former Democrats like myself and a whole lot of posters here are not reflected in Obama’s 88% approval rating among Dems. I’m not surprised that he would do well among that dwindling number of people still willing to be called Democrats.

  • Anonymous

Here’s another person needing a straight jacket.  Where is the nearest mental hospital?  We need to get this one there ASAP!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Um, yeah, NO – both Bush and Clinton had much better numbers than Obama has in his first year, hence the conclusion that Obama has the worst numbers of ANY president EVER.  Pretty sure that info was in the article.

    But thanks for playing.

  • EllenD

Oowawa, you inspire me to avatar! Yes, Huffington indeed!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Fortunately, I get Will’s articles (or pro-Hillary) articles at Facebook, and yes, it is the same Will Bower.  If you are on Facebook, you can sign up with the PUMA people.

THough, I admit, I did have to go to HuffPo to get the correct html address.  But I took a shower afterwards, so I’m fine now!  ;)

I know – I admit, I just cannot watch her without crying.  I cannot believe that the DNC was able, along with right-wing Republicans back in the day, of depicting this warm, intelligent woman in such a negative light.  Talk abt your basic fear of competent women…

  • EllenD

    Woof!

  • PortiaElizabeth

Nathan…. thanks for the comic relief.
FYI you could’ve saved yourself alot of work. Really. All you needed to say was Barack and wisdom in the same sentence and we’d be LOL.

  • Clara

But she also told Tavis she was absolutely not interested in running again.

  • EllenD

Yep. Not to mention the pension. Library’s going to be pretty empty though.

  • Marla

And I would not be sad to see the last of Pelosi and Reid either.  Although I would give credit to Reid for using Senate rules so that Bush was not able to make those recess appointments after 2006.

  • Josh Goldman

I just came here from the Andrew Sullivan site, and I am pumped!
Here is what I believe to be a winning strategy for Obama tonight:
    - Go balls deep with the health-care initiative.
    - Thrust taxes forward. There is no reason not to tax the rich people in this country.
    - Flush-out “don’t ask don’t tell” with a big-old nozzle.
    - Stand rock hard by abortion rights, and particularly 3rd term abortions.
    - Penetrate the American public’s consciousness via TV and movies and explain that we will weather any terrorist attack, and we will not make national security an issue like rednecks want.

Obama enjoys an approval rate of over 98% among people with education. The course this nation takes will be charted by people who read Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Karl Marx, NOT by people who read “Guns and Ammo”.

Obama should not dilly-dally. The people are behind him! Onward progressives! Down with the military-industrial complex, down with American hegemony, and down with America’s fascist past. Time for a new day. Time for an Obama day!

  • PortiaElizabeth

Now stop it and behave yourself!
    You’re insulting Jewish citizens everywhere.
Finish your homework and go to bed.

  • PortiaElizabeth

That number should have an asterisk by it that qualifies as percentage of Dems who can’t afford caller ID and still answer their phones.

  • Khan Krum

I’ve read this site, posted on it, and donated to it since the campaign.  Yes, I understand, but still contend that Hillary should have squashed him like a bug when she had the chance two summers ago.  However, I sympathize with your point of view.

  • Sandy

    Nathan Finklestein, GET A GRIP!!!!

  • armymom

Clean up on aisle 4. Oh, and bring the straight jacket. In fact, better order another batch. I feel we’re going to need them.

lol, yep let 20% of the facist left wing fringe dictate the other 80% of the country. Sounds like what the extreme right did, and how did that work out?

  • Anonymous

AC, Krum and FF are Valentine sweethearts.

  • catherine

Your hero the America hating “scholar” Zinn was just announced dead. One less anti America propagandist.

    Hillary 2012

  • Docelder

    Do over.

And as much as I read and liked Chomsky’s early work in linguistics, I have also read his politics.  He can get a bit eccentric there, to say the least.  But Chomsky lives in an ideal mental world of his own, not in the real world we inhabit.

  • Peggy Sue

On another site there was a discussion [really a lament] about the failed healthcare reform bill, what a trainwreck it had been in good part, if not large part due to the lack of leadership and vision from the top.

I never believed that healthcare was a passion for Barack Obama.  I’m not sure the man has or had any great passion or vision beyond getting the job, winning the election and taking the title.

    And it shows.

But healthcare reform was a mission for Hillary Clinton.  We knew that.  She’d failed once and I was convinced, she would not fail again. By hook or by crook, we would have a decent bill, a fair bill.

I’m watching the Tavis Smiley show now.  Hillary is totally engaged.  Yes, she’s giving kudos to the President, but this job, Secretary of State, is something she’s fully committed to.

    And it shows.

Do I have a dream?  Yes, I do.  I don’t want to dream too hard because I don’t want to get my heart broken again.  But I’m watching and listening to the woman who absolutely deserves to be our first female President of the United States.

And she is good.  She is very, very good. And she makes me proud. As an American, as a woman.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

EllenD, you are on a roll tonight!!  :)

  • Docelder

I had a some of those wannabe communists for professors back in college. I think it starts when they realize that book smarts is not a commodity worth nearly as much in renumeration as is business smarts. Professors resent that people who they feel are intellectually inferior to themselves make more than they do. So, they become infatuated with ideas like communism. But it isn’t about smarts at all in a capitalist society. It’s about productivity. But they can’t see or agree with that, so they fester inside the protective walls of their universities.

  • Anee

I too fought hard for HC and was disappointed when she chose to be SOS, I knew OB would fail and didn’t think she should be associated with him.  I am with Khan Krum.. she made her bed and now she has to lie in it.
She will not run for prez, get over it folks.  She was done when they stole the nom from her, the DNC will never take her back.
It is better for her to work on her legacy, which she says will be women’s and girl’s rights… more power to her!
I am done with her as a prez candidate, the rest of you are living in a fantasy world if you believe she will be running for prez in 2012.   Sorry people, better to put your energies in a new and better candidate.

  • Timmy

Obama should just give up tonight. The job is too big for him and he is not up to the job plain and simple.

It’s over dude. You fucked it big time.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I’m watching the Ravis Smiley piece now – this video is most appropriate:

  • FLDemFem

She is still Secretary of State. It is inappropriate for her to mention future political plans. Especially ones that may conflict with her current boss’s plans. She has to say she has no interest in running, or everything she says and does will be seen as some sort of campaign ploy. That would not serve her, or us, well in the position she currently holds. To be an effective SoS, she has to be as neutral as possible politically. And we all know that she takes pride in doing her job well, no matter what it is.

  • Sandy

Now we are intellectually challenged because we did’nt fall for the hope and change routine. Just more of the same, resort to name-calling when all else fails. You are certainly in for a rude awakening if you ever lay off the kool-aid and finally see Obama for what he really is. I HOPE for your sake, all the CHANGE was worth it, but many of us already had him figured out during the primaries. Now, who is intelectually challenged?

  • buzzlatte

One year would be better.  He’ll still be on the history websites and maybe he can get a library named after him in Kenya.

    Resignation…what a sweet, sweet word…

  • Art

So it’s party before country.  That is the only rationale that fits HRC for 2012.  She had my support, and I even bent a little on the snipe fire, but by the end of the D convention, she convinced me that she is an accomodator and a phony.  Obama followed by HRC would finish the country.  She would never be taken seriously internationally as POTUS.  You’re delusional if you think they’re not smirking now.  There were women who have had the world’s attention.  Maggie Thatcher was one.  HRC is nowhere near her in stature and Thatcher’s steadfast principles.

  • Andy

Your analysis forgets the independents: Bill Clinton carried them strong. Obama? Not so much. And for elections, independents are the key.

  • Andy

Obama now I mean –he did carried them in 2008.

  • Rosa

just think of the friends he made on wall street  they owe him big time   . he probably won’t ever have to work and can vacation endlessly,     bill ayers can write a new  book in hs name and all the obots can give him more money.

  • FLDemFem

By the time Obama gets through, even the Republicans will be begging Hillary to come and fix the country. They may have hated Bill, but they now recognize that he was a good and effective president. And what he has done since leaving the White House has gained much admiration as well. There were quite a few Republicans who voted for Hillary in the open primaries, and they weren’t racists. They were simply appalled at the shallowness and inexperience of the other choice. Now even the ones who voted for him are appalled. I think Hillary will have support across party lines if she decides to run. The area where I live, and the Ocala area next door, is chock full of Republicans. And they like Hillary better than any other possible candidate. Go figure.

After what Hillary went through at his, the media’s and her own party’s hands, I will not crucify her for rising above and deciding to be the one adult in the room, staying on to serve her country.  They deserve the blame, not her.

Besides which, if you remember the climate in 2008, the media was positively drooling over him and it was a media blackout on anything negative.  If she would have tried to bring him down, she would have been excoriated, burned at the stake — all the evil names they ever called her “confirmed” and that would have been the end of her political career — and her ability to fight and work for us — here and/or abroad.  What you demanded is a nice idea, but never would have worked.  I wanted her to be around to live to fight another day.

Also, isn’t it interesting how the karmic police have been offering payback on so many levels and striking out in so many directions so quickly?

I for one am grateful she is doing what she is doning — her popularity is through the roof and she has an opportunity to make a dent — which she will likely do more and more as Obama is more deeply mired in and sucked under domestic issues.

You’re certainly welcome to your opinion, but I could not disagree with you more, Art.  I have seen how the world’s leaders respond to her, and no one is “smirking” at her.

And HRC most definitely IS of high stature.  Given that you previously supported her, I am surprised you WOULD support her if you did not see that in her.  But whatever…

How does any primary challenger take the black vote from Obama?  If Hillary manages to beat him in the primaries again, I think it will depress black turnout in the general election.  False accusations of racism will start all over again.  I want her to be President.  What the democrats did to her was so wrong but African Americans will not tolerate Obama being removed.  So the question is, Can Hillary or any democrat win a primary or general election without the black vote?

  • FLDemFem

Josh, didn’t your mom tell you that you would go blind if you did that? Zip up and put both hands on the keyboard. That’s a good boy. O:-)

    Amy,

You need to learn to read better or understand some basic arthmetic.

Clinton was not liked as much as Obama by democrats, that largely explains the difference between the dispersion between Democrats and Republican support or the gap you reference in your polling info. That is the key point and the whole point. Do you understand?

    Again from the gallup article.

“Clinton was less popular among Democrats than Obama has been to date, making Obama’s ratings more polarized.”

Obama’s overall approval rating, which is completely different than what you are talking about in this post, is actually not that bad at all, all things considering, given the economy.

Bill Clinton’s approval rating fell below 50% in only 4 months, whereas Obama’s fell in 8 months.

    See:

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/122513/presidential-approval-usually-falls-below-timing-varies.aspx

Same BS, Republicans and conservatives cannot stand a democratic president. That is all it is, given Obama’s current 85% support by Democrats.

Obama’s average approval rating is actualy 57% after his first year. That is exactly the same as Reagan at 57% after his first year and well above Clinton at 49% and not far behind Carter at 62% and Nixon at 61%.

    See: http://www.gallup.com/poll/125096/Obama-Averages-Approval-First-Year-Office.aspx

Amy, so what exactly is the point of your post? Other than your standard trashing Obama.

  • Anonymous

    Andy,

The problem with the independent argument is that with less than 20% (historic low) now identifying themselves as Republicans, that means a heck of a lot of independents are now ex-Republicans. Independent have therefore become much more conservative because their ranks are swelled by ex-Republicans. So not surprising that Obama has less support from these Independents, who are really Republicans.

I would also say that Obama’s average poll support is currently about 57% (see link to gallup poll above). He won the election with 53% of the vote. So with his current support above what he won the election at, that does not at all suggest that he has lost the independents he had during the 2008 election.

You make a valid point,  I never did like her but when The Fraud began to materialize as a serious contender, my unconscience began to accept her and pulling for her, even after the stupid sniper story.  I remember yelling at my flatscreen, “What the hell did you do that for?”  However, I cannot tell you how bitterly disappointed I was when she began to stomp for The Liar, and when I watched her cast her vote for him at the convention I was completely deflated.  I had lived at this site from ’07 as ‘atti’ and so happy to see how connected we all were in stopping the pending disaster. Well, that’s the way things go, and I’m sure, given enough time, one of us will be found to be closer to the truth in this matter.  God save our country.

The reality is that all of the polarization is on the conservative and right-wing side. It was no different for Clinton for most of his term.

You’re absolutely right, but she certainly would have garnered a great deal of respect from Independents had she not accomodated the Obama crowd in the campaign.  I know that would have been an earth shaking move and extremely difficult, but, in the end, that’s how the cream rises to the top.  Today, she, as a Senator,  would be judged a strong contender even without the black vote.

  • beachnan

That’s because all the intelligent Democrats left the party after the bs the DNC and Obama and Crew pulled.  You did notice that the percentage of Democrats has gone down.   That’s poll is bullsh$t by the way.  Even people who were big supporters of BO, have changed their minds.  Give it a rest.

Thanks, Art.  As for the sniper story, pleae bear in mind that the MSM ratcheted that up in a BIG way.  She may have misspoken some, but the flight abt which she was talking did act in a manner indicating a possible attack.  It was a VERY dangerous area in which she was.

Meanwhile, Obama was claiming that the March on Selma inspired his parents to have him.  Okay, great – but the March was 4 yrs after he was born.  There were a number of whoppers he told, but the MSM just let them slide.

So, yeah, I understand your frustration, but like I said, remember that the MSM failed to describe the situation into which she was flying, and only highlighted the one mis-statement she made…

I am so sick of the racism.  Black people are as smart as white people and many are horribly disappointed in this fraud.  C’mon!  It is racist to say a white woman cannot run becasue of the black vote!  Are you also saying a black candidate could not run against him either?  Wouldn’t that lose the black vote by taking out the first AA POTUS!  That , “Oh, my gosh the blacks” argument is as finished/over/the end as Barky’s Presidency no matter what lies he wanted to spew tonight!  So should white folk never run for POTUS again because it will upset black people that a white person took over!  I am sooooo sick of this racism BS!  Let’s all be f-ing Americans above anything else!

Yes, but…..and I am a huge Hillary supporter. She as SOS works for the Pres and the USA. Her loyalty and duty is to serve in this capacity. It would hurt her more to play into this at this time and harm any chances she might have in the future.

She must serve out her term and contribute her skills and talents. I am sure we will hear of Hillary in the future, but now is an ill considered time.

  • Steel Magnolia

I think most of those people polled are actually afraid to say they don’t like Obama for fear of being called Racist.

  • warehouse553

I’m sorry if I offended you with a realistic perspective of the situation.  This is it for African Americans.  They finally have a President that looks like them.  They have an emotional attachment to his Presidency.  No white person can challenge him for the nomination because the majority of blacks will vote for and side with him like they did before.  It will divide the Party again!  He painted the Clintons as racist and got away with it because African Americans allowed it to happen.  They knew it was not true but they wanted a black President so badly that they just went along with it.  He knows it and he will play the race card as much as possible.

Ani, you are exactly right!  The Clintons would have been hanging out there by themselves with the media, the democrats, the republicans – everyone – saying this was sour grapes and nothing to it.  They would have been made to look like utter fools trying to tear down this popular candidate.

In fact the new book “Game Change” documents that the DNC, the democratic leadership did not want Hillary to be the nominee and worked against her from the start.  These authors seem to think they uncovered this tidbit while those of us here have known that fact since early 2008.

To further support the point the Clintons knew what they were doing by accepting this horrific fate and moving on, the “Game Change” authors apparently trash the Clintons almost as much as they do the Edwards.   They take Bill Clinton to task for saying there were people at the Iowa  caucuses who were not from Iowa like he was just being a trouble maker.

The Clintons were also ridiculed for questioning the TX Caucuses after Hillary won the TX primary (the TX Two-Step) by several points but B0 won the caucuses by 12 points – a mathmatical impossibility says Dr. Lynette Long who analyzed the fraudulent caucuses.  The TX caucuses yielded 2000 complaints to the corrupt DNC about the fraud that went on.  Naturally the DNC did nothing because they were part of the whole setup.

Those examples are just the beginning of what the Clintons would have been put through had they been foolish enough to take on this breach of our constitutional rights.

BTW, KK, it is also well documented that Hillary turned B0 down several times to be SoS before he prevailed on her enough that her sense of duty to this country changed her mind – so much for your incorrect argument that the Clintons said nothing so she could be appointed to something in his cabinet.

The Clintons are well schooled in the art of politics.  No one has it as down pat as they do.

I came back here after loooooong bitterness over the election (I refused to dive into the aftermath…I actually stopped coming around a lot after the convention because it sickened me), and I have to say that Amy’s post cheered me up.

However, I think it’s very unlikely that she would run again (hate to be cynical, since COCO doesn’t like cynicism).  I loooove Hillary and would definitely vote for and support her again, but like the HuffPo piece said, it would be unprecedented, and you all saw what happened the last time anyone stood up against the O–we were beat down (verbally AND physically) by rabid O supporters and the lawsuit against the Black Panthers that people brought against them for intimidation was thrown our.  All the O did was divide our country worse than it had been before, and I don’t see the whackjobs backing down any time soon.  :(

Most of the conservatives I know on Facebook would rather have Hillary than Obama, so there goes that argument.

I’m sorry. It’s too late to say I’m sorry I want hillary now.  She’s not coming back and frankly the way she supports obama. im not sure I can trust her.  she’s part of his kabal now.

  • FLDemFem

I already live in FL. Bought land, 30 acres, and turned it into a farm, and not one square foot of it is swampland. And given it’s very close to the Suwannee River, it could have been swampy. But I checked it out carefully first, along with the flood records for the area. Just like I checked out Obama and was appalled at what I found, or didn’t find. Obama had a one page resume, one page. ONE PAGE. And he wanted to be President. Well, now he is and look at his record so far..just words. No actual action, just words.

The country is tired of incompetents, Hillary is anything but incompetent and everyone knows it, including the conservatives. I live in an area with many conservatives and they would like to see Hillary as President. Why? They may not agree with all her policies, but they trust her to do the best for the country and its people. They trust her not to lie to them. And they know she will work her heart out for them.

Hillary will get across the board support because the country realizes that there is no one else who is capable of cleaning up the mess we are in. And she is totally respected by our allies and the rest of the world. Obama is a laughingstock, and even his supporters are starting to figure that out. Frankly, I don’t think he will make it to 2012, I think he will resign or be impeached before then.

  • FLDemFem

The race card is totally over for the AA voters, in my opinion. They are massively disappointed in the performance of the first AA president, just like the rest of us. They believed him when he made those campaign promises and they have stood by and watched him break them at record speed, some were broken before the campaign was over..such as FISA, and public financing. And most of my AA friends are also appalled by the performance and appearance of Michelle Obama. They expected the first AA First Lady to dress and behave like a lady, she doesn’t. l was very surprised to hear a friend of mine, an AA lady of mature years, say about Michelle, “You can take the girl out of the ‘hood, but you can’t take the ‘hood out of the girl.” They expected more from the first AA president, and they didn’t get it. I don’t think they will support him again in high numbers, no matter what color he is.

  • Sassy

I like the letter and will always be a Hillary trooper, but realistically there are major obstacles to overcome for 2012.
With unemployment predicted to stay at 10%, by the CBO, through 2010 and into 2011, this country is in serious trouble.
That could cause a major revolt inside the Democratic Party, with ALL the major players asking BO to step aside. I think they would literally have to draft Hillary.
The downside to that, however, is that the country will still be angry enough to turn their back on anything with the democratic brand.
I don’t want to be a “bummer”, but I can’t see a way around this.

The tenor of the country has changed since the last campaign. Now the voters know that the person they trusted to run the country is incapable of doing the job, and that all he has to offer is words, words, and more words. And those Obots that beat everyone down are too busy trying to figure out how to make the rent and eat with no job. What are they going to say? He cost us our jobs, but he talks nice so lets re-elect him?? After this speech, which was mostly hot air and fantasy, the worm will turn. The American people won’t put up with much more of this crap. And they are saying so in larger and larger numbers. Unfortunately, the Talker-in-Chief is not a good listener, so he won’t pay attention to the peoples’ concerns. And it will cost him his job.

  • Anonymous

Just as I thought.. you got nothing…. the poll numbers quoted above tell a very different story than the one you are trying to paint here. They basically say that Obama is polarizing because democrats like him so much. They also say that Obama’s popularity is no different than Clinton’s, actually better than Clinton’s, at this point in his term. The reality is there are many people on the right who will never accept a democratic president. They are doing exactly the same thing to Obama as they did to Clinton.

The main remedy for anaphylaxis is epinephrine, aka adrenaline, which is a stimulant. And if the voters keep injecting themselves with it, they will be so fired up they will probably be stimulated to get rid of the entire crew by voting in people whose platform includes impeaching Obama. We can only “hope”!!

  • FLDemFem

If the Republicans get enough people in the House and Senate this November, they can do what they did to Nixon. He resigned when he heard that impeachment charges were being drawn up against him in the House committees. It didn’t even get to the floor, just word that the committees were engaged in the impeachment process was enough to spur his resignation. This can be done again, if the committees have the guts to do it. Once it is explained to Obama that if he is convicted he will lose his pension, all perks, and never be able to hold public office again, elected or not, he will go quietly into the Hawaiian sunset with his pension.

  • bamaLV

i have been saying for a while that whoever is looking for our votes in 2010, needs to be asked if they would support impeachment and make that a criteria for  our vote.   maybe someone out there (scott brown?) can make that  his or her platform.     i would not be at all surprised  if many democrats would jump on board considering how many  democrats  careers and reputations he has ruined.

  • bamaLV

i think at this point, the republicans (and many democrats) would much rather have hillary in the WH now than this inexperienced boob. she not only knows how to work across the aisle, she also knows what shes doing.   more than i can say for Omeme.

  • bamaLV

it must be killing Omeme that everyone ,including republicans, are praising bill clinton for moving to the center after he lost the majority. the only reason O took on healthcare was to show up the clintons that he could accomplish what they couldnt. the clintons must be having a good laugh now..and well deserved.    revenge sure is sweet.

  • bamaLV

who, in their right mind would want to be the one to clean up all the shit obama leaves behind? they would have to fumigate the WH first. i wonder how the obamas will feel when the next president spends 4 years trashing and blaming obama for the mess we’re in.(just like he did to bush).  no 2 people deserve it more than these two phonies. and speaking of bush, at least he has the class not to respond to obamas  constant trashing of him. ” obama the petty”always feels a need to respond to any criticism  of ‘himself” which just shows how petty he is.

  • bamaLV

i am still amazed  by how many idiots out there still think obamacare will be free.  the only healthcare that will be free for them will be medicaid (much like welfare) and good luck finding any doctors who will take it since it pays like $11 per visit  .these people need to stop looking for handouts from the govt (actually the taxpayers), particularly since they themselves pay no taxes. if you want to be a freeloader all your life thats your choice. most americans do not.

Hillary Clinton is a true patriot. She was asked to serve. Her country needed her (and did it ever). As a New Yorker, I was selfishly against losing an effective Senator who fought for her constituents. As an American, I felt relieved that someone of her stature, ability, and integrity would be Secretary of State. Remember that Bill Richardson was among the sorry crew of likely contenders.

She chose to place serving her country above her own best interests. The same can be said for many of the women and men serving in the American military. Is their service “tainted” because it supports policy objectives with which I sometimes disagree?

Not on your life. I salute them. I think Hillary Clinton deserves our gratitude. Wherever we stand politically, we sometimes ought to stand together as Americans.

I remember how many of her “certain” super-delegate supporters

In her position, I would not trust them again, and she worked her butt off in the primary, and won.
    The democrats don’t deserve her!

Thanks, RRRA. I forgot that it would have his teleprompter. And by that time they would have stuffed BO.

Hillary in 2010–that’s right!  Obama is NOT a NBC. He needs
    to be ousted, NOW!

    The Democratic Party is Toast.
You elected a Marxist President, and keep trying to blame everything on George Bush.
    Just watch.
One by one the seats will fall across this country.
Do I think this is a good thing?
    No.
But Democrats let the “Progressives” in, and the American people are having none of this crap.
You could have had Hillary, but you allowed yourself to be strong armed by thugs.
And stop blaming the Republicans for that.
    Blame yourselves, Dems.

The DNC tried to destroy Hillary and Bill, and ended up destroying itself.
    Payback is a b*tch.  2010 will be a bloodbath.

felizarte, this is not a court complaint.  It is a citizen complaint of election fraud to state A’sG in applicable states.  In other words, citizens are reporting a possible crime, committed by members of both the state and national D party.  And, for the benefit of these A’sG who have thus far refused to intervene on behalf of the citizens in their respective states; we have tailored each complaint to the individual state, providing overwhelming circumstantial evidence of the fraud (including Bob Bauer’s admission to the federal court in that infamous footnote in Hollister; and the refusal by various members of the D party to provide the documentation that was the basis for their Certification to state election officials, BO is Constitutionally eligible for the job).  These citizen complaints explicitly take no stand on whether BO is a NBC; they only charge, no one determined he was, before swearing he was, in order to get his name printed next to the D on state ballots.  http://jbjd.wordpress.com
