Barack Obama, Spineless Wimp on DADT

You pussy! wimp! You coward! With the stroke of a pen you could lift the ban on homosexuals serving their country.

And what do you do? In a throw away line you pledge to “lobby Congress??

You worthless excuse for a leader.

The homosexual men and women who serve their country deserve better. They deserve a commander who will make the case in a bold, public manner why no one should be excluded from the military because of their sexual identity. Barack is nothing but a pander bear.
What a cowardly lion.

  • SeriouslySickOfObama

Well, at least we know how you feel, Larry, LOL!!!  I have nothing to add to your post except that the gays that voted him in, must now vote him out or force him to resign by dogging his sorry A## bc he his EGO can’t handle rejection, LOL!  Congress will not do a damn thing without manchildnchief saying so and imagine him throwing the blame to Congress instead of taking the blame, so manchildnchief style, blame others.  So, let him numbers drop, keep up the tea parties, protests and demand your rights!!  We are a nation of human beings, not couples or partners, we are individuals with individual rights!  Regardless of your opinion on gay lifestyles, they have the same rights as any other American and should be treated as such!! Bravo, Larry for being the BOLD voice and speaking your mind!!

  • Tina

Actually, if they repeal DADT, that won’t allow gays to serve openly in the military.  Gays have never been allowed to serve openly in the Armed Forces.  All repealing DADt would do is to allow superiors to openly question subordinates about their sexual orientation.  That was what DADT was supposed to stop.

  • PuppyDogMom

Unbelievable.  I didn’t watch, because I can’t stand listening to him.  Really, does this surprise anybody that he would do this?

  • PortiaElizabeth

Thank you, Larry, for expressing what we’re all thinking. He’s just wasted DNA.

  • Retired

That line was pretty amazing.  I always thought that Obama was the Commander in Chief, but apparently he is going to abrogate that role to “working with Congress.”
The very first sentence of the Fleet Marine Force Manual says that a Commander is responsible for everything his command does or fails to do.  Period.  Of course, Obama isn’t a Marine.  He’s just the President/

  • buzzlatte

Not to mention tax payer dollars…

  • TeakWoodKite

I was surprised he broughtit up and then only to be used in a pivot, like on ones heels…moonwalked that he did….

  • TeakWoodKite

I was surprised he brought it up and then only to be used in a pivot, like on ones’ heels…moonwalked that he did….He spoke of “his” Civil Rights Division. Classic.

I think it will be worth a second look. What I did notice was the “quality” of the applause. Like a comedian who’s joke just fell flat he was laughing at his own jokes and forcing the silence until his ego was satisfied.
Silence in a comedy routine is difficult at best, and few comedians can pull it off.

  • Hank

Why didn’t he do another EXECUTIVE ORDER?  Larry is spot on…

  • barry bums a ciggie

That’s Barry in true form.  Making sure he can “outsource” all responsibility so that if things get tough, he can blame it on everyone else.  He says he’ll keep fighting for us, the question is, which one of “us” is he really fighting for? One year later, it’s time to throw out another bone to keep ‘em happy. I can’t stand this clown.

  • morris1030

How about the remark he made today to Diane Sawyer “that he’d rather be a real president bla bla for one term….?

Tonight gave it the kitchen sink and then some but DADT was a real low blow and totally dishonest.

Obama’s idolatry of Reagan is pathetic as he doesn’t get what Reagan was all about.
Reagan was a movement conservative and had paracticed this as Gov of Ca and came to the WHouse with a huge conservative movement behind him.
Reagan was an authetic person. I really disliked his politics, but he was for real and he connected.

Obama has no movement. Obama was the movement.  His election was all about The One.

And we are now seeing the debris.

  • SeriouslySickOfObama

Oh no he can’t do that..then he would be ACCOUNTABLE, LOL!! IMHO!!

    Adj. 1. accountable – liable to account for one’s actions; “governments must be accountable to someone beside themselves”; “fully accountable for what they did”;

  • AnnieCarmel

It’s hard for him to open his mouth without being condescending.  He still thinks we’ll fall for this BS.  More salme ole, same ole.  Nothing new here….bob and weave, keep it in generalizations, no details, if it sounds good he thinks they’ll swallow it.  And his drunkards will.  He actually had the nerve to try to infer that he feels our pain…Hey Obama.  We know Bill Clinton.  You are no Bill Clinton.

“You worthless excuse for a leader.”

Larry, you’re too quick off the mark.  With lines like this I have to think of something else to say–when that’s all I wanted to say.

    Thanks anyway.

  • AC

    Make believe President

  • AC

    PuppyDogMom,
    NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  • Docelder

Yes, it’s all about him. He will end up a party of one. Because he doesn’t think he needs anybody else and because everybody else will tire and desert him at some point.

  • Docelder

Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton would let us know that they understand the anger we felt. Obama wants to tell us why we feel angry. He really doesn’t get it. Or, his twenty something speech writer doesn’t get it.

  • jangles

This is very important and correct.  This was the compromise that BC made when he could not get an outright change in the law allowing gays to openly serve.  So it can be changed by executive order  because it is an executive order but the underlying law would still be the same.  Only congress can actually change that.

  • Onofre’s arm

    Marine……no, moron……yes.

  • jangles

Executive order will not fix this.  See above.  Larry you need to look into this and get it straight.

Doc, the longer Obama stays in DC the more people will realize that he doesn’t appreciate favors and doesn’t have a clue how to return them. Narcissists eventually alienate even their closest friends and allies because they all will begin to understand that the loyalty they give him will never be returned. Even his most intimate relationships are one mishap or faux pas away from termination. His servants sense this. He is soon to run out of sacrificial scapegoats upon which he can pin his foolish decisions and actions. When some of the more senior members of his cadre start to peel away, be prepared for an exponential evacuation of anyone in his administration who wishes to maintain any sort of political viability.

My main concern is how our government will respond and recover from the complete collapse of an administration that never had a solid foundation beyond a superficial cult of personality laid on the shifting sands of pathologically Narcissistic man/child.

  • Onofre’s arm

It’s worse than that Doc. Obama is telling us how wrong and stupid we are for being pissed off and worried. Narcissists lack empathy, so he has no concept of how and why we have grave concerns for our futures. As long as the world is HIS oyster, he will obliviously wonder why we don’t just eat cake and quit complaining.

  • SeriouslySickOfObama

It can be changed or added to the Discrimination Act.  That no persons shall be discriminated against for their sexual orientation in the US miltitary.  That is an option and would force the military to accept all persons regardless of their lifestyles.  Basically, throw out DADT and make it plain ole LIVE AND LET LIVE!

  • dc

He’s the biggest weenie I have ever seen. The usual Obama speech…like a Twinkie – yum it’s tastes good going down, but you realize after there was no substance, just a lot of sugar and goo, and something that could sit on a shelf for 20 years and still be fed to some poor naive schmuck.

  • Cindy

    Larry—Exactly!

  • buzzlatte

Thanks, Larry for saying it like it is.  The only word that comes to mind anymore when the big Zero is on TV is pathetic.

  • AnnieCarmel

I’m still laughing.  I had to copy this post from weaze lzipper.  Nightmare scenario I think:

“You’re in a foxhole. You look to your side and think you see Obama in fatigues armed with a large, powerful, automatic rifle. You close your eyes and rub them for a second and look again. You see it was really Palin in slippers and a house dress and armed only with a 9mm revolver and a small kitchen knife. You feel a sense of great relief.”

You betcha!  Who would you rather have in an emergency?

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Larry, this is exactly what I thought he was going to do when I saw he was going to mention it.  I knew it would be a throwaway line, and on eintended only to bring back the GLBT people.

Of course, this morning, I get an email from the SLDN – which works for GLBT military, and they are excited Obama mentioned it.  Please.  I am seriously, seriously sick of LGB people who are easily swayed by crumbs from the table.  Pitiful…

  • glennmcgahee

AnnieCarmel, that visual is hysterical. How come nobody has mentioned the White House asking Congress to cancel last week’s hearings on DADT.

  • Katmoon

I think he is quite insulting in how he is approaching this with the GBLT community. He makes no effort to hide, how he has, and does USE the GBLT community. One would think with such a background in community organizing, he would know better than to display such insincerity, while pretending to care about an issue of equality. Apparently his own, personal, historical experiences of equality are not of the type he believes apply to all people.

  • creeper

Ouch!  That was the one and only part of the speech I totally agreed with.   Now you come along and remind me that it’s within Obama’s power to do this any time.

Seriously, I was trying so hard to give him props on something…anything.  Thought I’d found it with the rhetoric on DADT.  Wrong.

Thanks for the dose of reality, Larry.  Nice antidote to the kool aid being dished out last night.

  • creeper

Thanks for the dose of reality, Tina.  How depressing that repealing DADT would make things even worse for gays in the military.

  • creeper

If what Tina wrote above is true, this seems to have been just a pander to gays…who are probably saying the same thing we are–”Show us some action!”

  • creeper

    Here’s the quote:
“This year — this year, I will work with Congress and our military to finally repeal the law that denies gay Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are,” Obama said. “It’s the right thing to do.”

It does not refer directly to DADT.  If we argue that it does, we’re making an error in connection.

Free translation:  “Don’t do anything about this.  Just let me talk about it.”

  • creeper

Nice family, IaLt.  Much to be thankful for there.

  • My other site

Anyone who listened to his campaign speeches knows Obama doesn’t like gays.  He even toured the country with some evangie minister speaking out against gays.  I guess he thought it would play well with the black audience since they are the people who defeated the gay marriage prop in CA.  He doesn’t like gays, wants to get rid of abortion, smokes like a stack, hates Bill Clinton and can’t get enough Ronald Reagan.  And the far left is tingling over him.  Guess their brains are fried.

  • My other site

Obama is a Manchurian Candidate, like Bush.  They can’t engage with the electorate because they’ve ripped us off royally for their own gain.  They can only do what the kingmakers tell them to do.

  • creeper

Mos, this is redundant.  Posts here have been urging people for months to watch what he does instead of listening to what he says.

But it never hurts to be reminded.  Donnie McClurkin was a dead giveaway…proof positive that Obama is an unprincipled pol who will use anyone and anything for his own advantage.  Thanks.

  • creeper

Ignore above.  The reality is that repeal of DADT without a change in the law it cricumvents would probably be worse for gays in the military than what we have now.

But don’t hold your breath waiting for the law to change.

  • Tricia

This was very disappointing.  When I got the “breaking news alert” yesterday afternoon from the NY Times that sounded like he would be taking bold action in his speech, I sent it to several gay friends.  They were happy–not sure how they feel today >:o .

    Larry,

DODT will be gone. that is my prediction. I suspect Obama is just trying to get the militaries buy in. Larry, those closest to the issue seemed to like what he had to say. Obviously, you have a different and more aggressive take for a very complicated issue. If there as a Republican in office, I am sure we would not even being having this conversation.

“Tonight, President Obama stepped up to the plate and made a firm commitment to work to finally end ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ in 2010,” said Alexander Nicholson, founder and executive director of Servicemembers United. “Although brief, his language was plain, his message was clear, and the outline of his strategy was smart.”
In his State of the Union speech, Obama said he would work with Congress and the military to repeal the 1993 law that bars openly gay and lesbian people from serving in the military.
“[We must] repeal the law that denies gay and lesbian Americans the right to serve the country they love because of who they are. It’s the right thing to do,” Obama said.
Nicholson, a former Army human intelligence collector who was honorably discharged in 2002 under the policy, said Obama did something Wednesday night that will cool criticism he has faced from the gay rights community.
He didn’t pass the buck … he seemed to take the bull by the horns and fully commit,” said Nicholson. “I thought it was pretty clear that he intends to do it this year and take a leadership role.”
Obama said he would work to repeal the policy during his 2008 campaign but was criticized by gay and lesbian groups when the issue didn’t emerge as a priority over the first year of his presidency.
Nicholson said that activists truly feel that the issue’s time has arrived, and it’s “game on for us.”
“Ready or not, we have to take this on … I think we’ll get it [repealed].”
In a statement to CNN, Servicemembers Legal Defense Network said that it applauds the president’s message and hopes for the repeal to be included in the defense budget.”

add McCain to that description. his excuse is there are 2 wars going on so it’s “not a good time”, & cause Collin Powell says so. let’s just treat our gay patriot volunteers like animals while they’re needed at war but give them a break in peace time. makes perfect sense. we have so many big strapping straight volunteers running en masse to the recruiting stations anyway. McCain doesn’t know shit. sorry I voted for the pig. i hope he looses AZ. he deserves it.

  • J.J. (The PUMA)

A stroke Obama’s pen would allow gay people to serve openly in the military.

By the way, I was watching Chris Matthews last night, and for a moment I forgot he was “WHITE”.

  • J.J. (The PUMA)

Complicated???  This isn’t healthcare.  There is a reason why they play “Hail to the Chief” when the guy walks into the room. Obama has the power to set military policy on his own. He  is just looking for political cover.  He wants to pass the buck on to Congress.

For once I think Larry was way too mild in his comments.  Gay people are getting jerked around.  ITs just that some of them haven’t figured it out yet.

I served at a amall depot, TFOD, in Bar Le Duc, France from ’55 to ’56,  In those days the draft was on, and I opted to be called early in order to get the GI Bill for college afterwards.  I went at age 18.  I was gay and  clueless.  Never dreamt of making a pass on base.  I did that in Paris, Luxembourg and Amseterdam on weekends and  leave.  One night, 20 years later in Boston, at a huge square gay bar, I heard a voice that was oh so familiar.  I knew it belonged to Sgt. Perkins.  I walked around the bar and there he was, as I remembered him, drunk, and loud, Perk!  He went happily crazy that I knew him from TFOD although he didn’t remember me. I was a lot younger and at a lesser rank.  He was thrilled to meet me and to talk about the old base.  He knew everything about the very active gay life going on at  this tiney base.  He said it was crazy, and there I there I was completely clueless. After I left to come back to the US, he was jailed for embezzling funds from the Post Dry Clearners and dishonorably discharged.   He had then become a drunk doing menial jobs in Boston.  I had gotten my BS and a good job. We kept in touch until I moved away from NE a few years later.  God I really liked this poor soul.  That’s my little story, never told it before, about  the ridiculous “Don’t ask, don’t tell.”  Didn’t matter. I was too terrified to do either.  BTW, although he was indeed an unscrupulous person before he turned his life around, I believe Larry Sinclair’s story about Obama.  It has the ring of truth and fits the facade and the total lie that is Barack Obama.  I agree LJ, BO is a spineless wimp.

BTW, although he was indeed an unscrupulous person before he turned his life around, I believe Larry Sinclair’s story about Obama.  It has the ring of truth and fits the facade and the total lie that is Barack Obama.  I agree LJ, BO is a spineless wimp.

Yes, but I never “Chringle” is a dickhead.

And Larry, Obama isn’t a cowardly lion. At least the lion felt one of his flaws was lacking courage so set out to get some and fix the problem so he could be a better lion. Obama’s not even willing to acknowledge he has flaws let alone do the work required to fix them.

He knew everything about the very active gay life going on at  this tiny base.  He said it was crazy and all undergound, and there I was completely clueless. After I left to come back to the US, he was jailed for embezzling funds from the Post Dry Clearners and dishonorably discharged.   He had then become a drunk doing menial jobs in Boston.  I had gotten my BS and a good job. We kept in touch until I moved away from NE a few years later.  God I really miss that poor soul.  That’s my little story, never told it before, about life on a tiny base. In those days, it was all underground, and this I found in civilian life afterwards as well, until the revolution of the last 20 years.  You didn’t dare breathe a word on the subject.

Wonder if that guest is one of obs people that ,  like joan walsh’s blog , obama reads the blogs and maybe its them or him as guest   LOL

  • Athena the Warrior

Me too.  That’s why both parties especially the Dems take the gays for  granted.  Butch up (so to speak  =-O ) and stop being so easy.

He’s a homophobe I am sure. Do you remember in one of the primary debates…someone joked about he and another candidate getting HIV tests or something, and he was totally uncomfortable witht that remark…hate to say it but he would fit how the average black male feels about gay folks…that community is disproprotionately homophobic, and that is not a racial slur, it is a fact.

I really can’t believe how stupid some of these so called lefties are with their blind support of this guy….they pretty much liked anyone but Hillary…started with Edwards then they went to Obama…as we can see neither of their choices were good ones.

There’s no problem that a good committee can’t study.  If you’ve got a good committee working on a problem, an executive is given the space to sit back and monitor the situation closely before implementing a call for some other agency to start looking for a solution.

  • John/liberalrapture

He said it because he knows nothing will happen in 2010. It was pure, undiluted, bullshit.

  • Tina

Actually, in order for gays to serve openly in the military, the Uniform Code of Military Justice would have to be changed.  That can only be done by Congress.  The President can sign an Executive Order that would allow gays to serve but they’d pretty much have to agree to be celibate.

  • whoframedrudy

On the other hand, McCain did vote against the Federal Gay Marriage ban, keeping it under 50 votes and effectively killing it.  That’s a thousand times more than Obama has ever done for gays.

And do you think McCain payed a price with the conservative base for that?

  • whoframedrudy

    Bingo!

In Game Change, didn’t Obama say the Congress works just like the Illinois State Senate?  This is SOP in the NY legislature and City Council — make a big noise about something they know is going nowhere.  That way they get the credit with the supporters but never have to face the opponents.
