Yes, I want to WHOLE story. I cannot believe how angry all this makes me, I didn't know I had this level of rage inside of me, what with Madoff, AIG, and so on.

This sort of thing makes me happy with my meagre financial situation. Don't get me wrong. I am comfortable in my retirement. The only thing I do differently now from what I thought I would be doing is this: I spend lots of my money to try to secure more of my two son's futures in the crazy world of finances they've inherited. I don't spend it on me because I am used to having little, having grown up poor in money (but rich in family), and I am really very happy in my home. What I have now is far more than my immigrant grandparents had, and sometimes I feel they were better off than I because of their "rich" culture and their firm ideals.

However, my sig other lost lots of his investment money. He was smarter than most and had a good percentage of his money in places that weren't affected, but he is constantly angry now about this type of thing. I get to shake my head at this stuff for myself, worry for my children, but I don't take it as personally because I never invested in it. I guess it was my heritage. I can't see my father ever investing because he didn't believe in making money off money. He believed in earning money off his hard work or off what he produced.

But to sweep this sort of thing under the rug is wrong, wrong, wrong. You said it: " I call bulls&%t on that."

Have you alerted the NYT to their mistake? (This sounds an awful lot like the announcement by the Boston Globe, which is owned by the Times, that Martha Coakley won the special U.S. Sente election; 7 (seven) hours before polls closed.) http://thephoenix.com/BLOGS/talkingpolitics/archive/2010/01/19/boston-globe-calls-election-for-martha-coakley.aspx

Thanks Larry, I was going to mention the profit aspect but it wasn't as clear as the Times misprint. Have a nice one.

AC,

I took that directly from the NY Times article. I should have corrected them.

Either way, the London operation was widely regarded as a front for Madoff to launder money.

The key point there is that it had a 2 million pound profit. That is next to nothing for an operation with 28 people, including 14 traders. With 14 traders generating 2 million pounds they each would have generated 150k pounds. That is a joke.

I should have highlighted this point. Thanks for asking.

Larry, did you really mean this: "the unit had £100 million, or $1.42 million" shouldn't it be 142 million in US dollars.
Back to reading.
