Billion Dollar Conversion

This post carries an offer for the religious conservatives. Those who consider themselves good Christians, the ones who talk incessantly about family values and the importance of virginity. The ones who go to Church every Sunday and incorporate Jesus into every nonsensical thought that comes out of their mouths. The wholesome, flag-waving American-born Christians.

For all you believers, Afghanistan has a proposition for you. The Taliban leaders had a grand Jirga and suggested that each riteous Christian should be offered a sum of money, a couple of grand, to change their hearts.

Now, we know not all good Christians are sell outs…but look when you take gas prices, utility bills, unemployment, health, inflation, and the kids’ education into account, is it that hard to imagine that more than a few people would consider the Taliban’s offer? Good Christians might secretly visit Church even after agreeing to the deal. But what’s going to happen once the money is gone? Good Christians will return to their faith, or will scheme to keep the money coming their way.

Does this sound ridiculous enough?

Well, that’s what Afghanistan’s puppet President Hamid Karzai proposed at the London Conference. The United States backed the idea, and has decided to raise one billion dollars to buy off Taliban or Taliban sympathizers. The specific amount of money each member of the Taliban would receive has not yet been worked out, but given the high corruption level in Afghanistan, my shot in the dark is that they won’t get enough money to keep their loyalties to one party.

Over the next 5 years, as proposed by the Afghan government, this money would be used to establish a trust to finance the reintegration program that would persuade the militants to lay down their weapons.

The U.N. Security Counsel also removed the names of five Taliban leaders from the “black list” of 144 dangerous terrorists figuring in the sanctions regime under Resolution 1267 dating back to the immediate aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks on New York and Washington. This shows that we are back to square one. As the UN envoy to Afghanistan put it, “If you want results, then you have to talk to the relevant person in authority.”

Paying the bribe to purchase a change of heart is a bogus idea. But some argue that Taliban supporters have failed to realize why international forces are in their country. Interestingly, this idea is supported by the argument that it can’t be worse than the previous efforts.

Well, then the previous efforts were wrong, as this one. Bottom line is, you can not correct a historical blunder with such idiotic tactics. This is what the West never understood and still refuses to.

How many more preposterous ideas are they going to come up with? Personally, I’m all for getting out of there and leaving them to their 14th century ideas.

What’s important is to realize that just like in Haiti, Americans are giving money and effort to the wrong people, in Afghanistan now, Americans soldiers are now fighting for the Taliban. CNN just showed how women in Afghanistan prefer to burn themselves in order to get completely disfigured and get the opportunity for their husband to divorce them. And how an 11 year old girl is forced to ‘marry.’

How exactly is it that we win by loosing?

How do we get Haiti to proudly display their 10 trophies?

How do we end fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan?

It is all in the workings of our Department of State. And I am not accusing Hillary because before Hillary we had Rice and Powell.

We are what our Department of State is. And our Department of State is everything to everybody.

It’s a good plan, Nail Em Up.  If I were a Taliban (and I’m imagining it right now), I’d think–hmmm . . . With that $2,000 I could buy me a little field, some high grade poppy-seeds, some fertilizer, some equipment to refine opium into heroin, and I’ll be all set to export the poison that will help to bring the Great Satan to its knees . . .

All I know is that in my lifetime there has not been a President like Bill Clinton. All the rest from Regan to Obambi they have been absolute failures.

  • lark

This is what I propose to the U.S. Sec. of State Hillary Clinton.

Since the great felony and crime that the 10 Baptist Americans have committed in Haiti is not having the proper documentation, then lets have the government of Haiti produce the proper documentation for each of the children given up by their parents to travel to the Dominican Republic to be schooled and housed there until the parents are ready and willing to take care of them.

Lets give them the documents, get them out of jail and let them take the children to the Dominican Republic for a great life and a great education.

Simple solution that will make everyone happy.

Is that that difficult? To get the stupid paperwork ready.

Who are the criminals here? Who burried thousands of children without identifying them in mass graves like animals? Who allows total chaos in their streets? Who has the very least concern for the welfare of the children in that country? Who has zero police protection and zero water and electricity? Don’t tell me that Haiti has laws.

I can’t get the “Banana Boat Song” out of my head, with the words: “Hey, Mr. Taliban, tally me banana….daylight come and me wanna go home.”
So, maybe my subconscious thinks that Harry Belafonte should go over there and intervene? Hey, he couldn’t be worse than Obama-nana, could he? I love ol’ Harry.

They must be thinking the Obama Political way “Honor among thieves” and expect all are easy for the kick back.

Hell, don’t even work in Jamaica man.  They  have a good business there.  Sell some Blue Mountain…and I DON’T mean COFFEE, then rat you out to the police so they get a reward from them.

Oh yeah.  Apparently Obama never heard that old word many americans described as, SUCKER!

It looks on the surface like there is some anti-Christian bias and resentment in Haiti. But, I see a lot of the same anti-Christian bias and resentment here in this country. I see it from time to time on this board, mostly in conjunction with bashing of the “religious right”. Here in Tampa today, the Atheists are fighting to have the city of Tampa not have a prayer before their city meetings. They say it is offensive. The city representative said the Supreme Court opens with prayer. I wonder for how long, with this President? Myself, I find people who don’t have any religion and claim offense to those who do as offensive. But that is just me.

I am going to wait and see if the Haitian communities here in Florida are going to march and protest against the government in Haiti for the attrocity they are committing against these precious 10 Americans. But I won’t hold my breath.

What does the Baptists stealing the children from their home country have to do with the Taliban. I think this is just another slam for Hillary. She is actually working and if you had any sense you would know we can’t interfere with a nations laws. All Hillary can do is try to free them diplomatically as she is doing with the ones in Iran, like she did with the ones North Korea and others.

  • connie

Those poor precious Americans broke the law. I admit it was for the good of the children, but these things have to be worked out diplomatically.

  • lark

The Haitians have a pact with the devil and that’s why they can’t even find clean water in their country.

Docelder: Please remove your head from whatever dark hole it’s stuck in. Roman Catholicism is the official religion of Haiti.  And by the way Haiti is not the topic of this post.

lark, I feel sorry for you.  Your posts indicate you really need some help.

    I am beyond help.

First, let us be clear that Haiti is predominantly Catholic.  Catholics are Christians – last time I looked.  Now, there may be some anti-Pentacostal Protestant bias, but it is certainly not anti-Christian.  As for starting a public governmental meeting with a prayer – in all likelihood a Christian prayer – I do find that offensive as a breach of separation of Church and State.  However, if you must have a prayer before governmental functions let’s make that a Moslem prayer and see how you like it.
