OK, campaigning is hard work. And you want to be President, right?

So, why were you in Hawaii for an extended vacation just before Denver? And what’s with not taking the kids with you to see Grandma?

Or was it that pesky birth certificate thingy that needs some attention? (Questions still need to be answered on this one.)

There is a “3 a.m. moment” going on. Or was the idea to be out of commission for a while in the hopes of not making any more foreign policy gaffes before Denver?”

Finally, the polls have flat-lined at a time when you should be 15 points ahead. That’s probably something to worry about. Don’t you think that instead of bouncing through Europe and playing in Hawaii, your time would be better spent courting us white working class folks here at home who don’t “get” you? It might not work (and please don’t blame Hillary Clinton if it doesn’t), but you should have really tried.

Think about it people – Obama’s grandmother is basically under a type of house arrest. She is only allowed out once a day and when she is she is not allowed to speak to the press. On the few occasions this has occurred, the daughter (Obama’s half sister) is glued to her side censoring everything. Now Obama goes to Hawaii without family – while this birth certificate controversy is ongoing…do any of you smell something fishy?

No…he went to Hawaii WITH FAMILY. THAT is what makes it worse.

He went to visit Granny ….. ALONE.

Then, at a later point in time, he “stopped by” enroute to dinner at a restaurant with a gift basket, and dragged the kids along bearing gifts–books or something. They stayed for “minutes.” It wasn’t a VISIT…it was a “drop off.”

I’m not looking for conspiracies where none are in evidence, but if I wanted to be suspicious, I’d imagine The Anointed One telling TWG (Typical White Granny) to “Shut the fuck up if you know what’s good for you….lissen up, old woman…anyone asks about me, you let MAYA handle it. However, Obama and his supporters fail to see the gravity of the danger we face and the United States position in the world to confront these dangers.
Losing your power and position in the world sneaks up on you.
Once you have lost it you can’t get it back.
America defeated as Obama wished means literally the end of our way of life as we know it.
I can just imagine waking up today as an America defeated and humiliated in the eyes of the world with a emboldened Alqueda in Iraq and Iran with their nuclear ambitions.

All the values and traditions that has made up our heritage can be gone in an instance.

The Georgians don’t give a damn about the Southern Ossetians. They just want their territory.

The Georgian moral justification seems to be that the Republic of Georgia just looks more complete on a map when South Ossetia is included.

The Georgians invaded South Ossetia with tanks, troops, and artillary, killing around 2,000 civilians, and killing 15 UN-sanctioned Russian peacekeepers.

So, the Russians rolled into South Ossetia the next day and pushed the Georgians back.

Then they rolled into Georgia, to make an unmistakable point. This was an overreaction, but it certainly wasn’t unprovoked, and it certainly wasn’t unpredictable.

They then gave the Ukraine a hard look and shook their finger.

The Russians would probably be behaving a lot better if we didn’t keep trying to put new NATO-member states right on their borders. How would we react if Canada or Mexico were suddenly part of a Russian or Chinese military pact, and Russian or Chinese troops and weapons moved in?

Or if the Russians or Chinese were talking about putting a ballistic missile defense system just across the Canadian or Mexican border?

Russia invaded Georgia because of western provocation. Georgia probably triggered the whole disaster because they’ve been led to believe they’d get U.S. support if they moved troops into South Ossetia and Russia reacted. Who do you suppose they got that goofy idea from?

Want the good old Cold War days back? Vote for McCain. You’ll get ‘em, and possibly even more.

The Russians have the world’s largest natural gas reserves, the world’s second-largest coal reserves, and the world’s eighth-largest oil reserves, all within their own national borders. The Russians are fixed up just fine with regard to energy assets.

If anybody’s got their eye on somebody elses oil and gas, that would be us. (The invasion of Iraq, remember? Trying to turn Georgia into a western NATO state, remember?)

How can we criticize Russia for reacting to a Georgian military incursion that killed 2,000 South Ossetian civilians Russia was assigned by the UN to protect? When that incursion also killed UN-sanctioned Russian peacekeepers, right across Russia’s own border? And what right have we to act all superior, after our own damn government recently sent an invasion force halfway around the world to attack and occupy a nation that hadn’t even attacked us?

I’m no big fan of the Russians. But I recognize they’ve got their own legitimate concerns. We should show them the same respect we expect to get. Particularly in their own backyard.

We didn’t. So now they’re asserting themselves.

It is not in the interest of the United States to push them again, harder, just to see if they’re serious. They’re plenty serious. And in their own back yard, they hold a far stronger hand.

well, McCain’s match and $85 million in public financing (thank you, America) that puts him over $100 million right there; the RNC has $96 million; the 527s probably $200 million (conservatively, pun intended)….so that would put the republicans in pretty good stead.

Now Barky Soetoro is going to have to raise that amount of money each month for him to compete. And seeing like he likes to spend in on adds about himself–which are saturating the market–and large rallies with big speeches, I think he’ll spend but won’t see payoff in the polls.

He is on his way out. let the dems nominate him so the party crumbles and can be rebuilt. This is the end of the democrats.

From the Obama campaign’s release:

Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced today that more than 65,000 new donors contributed to the Obama campaign during the month of July, bringing the total raised for the month to over $51 million. More than 2 million people have now contributed to the campaign.
“The 65,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to fundamentally change business as usual in Washington. We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than two million donors to the Obama campaign who will provide the backbone of our campaign to put America back on track and reject the old politics and failed Bush policies, which is all John McCain is offering,” said David Plouffe, campaign manager of Obama for America.

The Obama campaign also says they now have roughly $65 million on hand.

Obama raised $52 million last month, and with the $51 million this month we can see that Obama has kept the pace of roughly $50 million a month he needs to meet his goal of raising $300 million or more.

Obama’s haul is also nearly double the $27 million raised by McCain in July. The McCain campaign and Republican National Committee have roughly $100 million on hand. The DNC’s numbers are expected sometime this weekend, so we’ll soon be able to see how the two sides stack up against each other.

I read that Ob is not going to joint Town Hall meetings, and has agreed to only 3 debates.

Obama was watching the astronauts walk on the beach with the spirit of his grandfather who was just back from liberating Germany from the nazis. Obama stopped by several Honolulu hospitals trying to find a disgruntled clerk who could spiff out a nice birthcertificate for a few hundred grand. He was also looking for a little of the maui wowwie since he’s going to be given a drug test for crack and wants to switch drugs (I don’t think it’s the best idea to take a drug test full of THC either, but then I’m not running for Jesus and haven’t read the manual). There was wide spread speculation that he would attempt to throw himself into the live volcano on the Big Island, but we haven’t heard anything about that. Something about proving he was the descendent of the ancient Hawaiian gods. Yeah, oh well. I guess he decided that he didn’t need the traditionalist Hawaiian vote. I believe the Obama campaign is now turning from getting people to vote
for him and is just concentrating on making sure that the voting machines are all serviced by the Teamsters. Politics, go figure.

Pat, your cartoon is a funny poke at the anointed one. I think the timing of this vacation makes little sense other than, as some have pointed out, it gets gets a favorite political target out of the range of hostile potshots. As you have indicated, a better use of his time would have been staying closer to home courting his Democratic adversaries. Then again, the less he opens his mouth for spontaenous comments, the less likely he is to make stupid gaffes. He very well may be trying to locate a bona fide copy of his birth certificate. Maybe his Mama knows where it is, or maybe he has told Mama to lose it if she has it.

Obama talks about judgment. What does it say about him if he can not figure out what kind of situation is serious enough to come back from vacation. A real possibility of a conflict with Russia is not it? I know he is not the president but he still is a senator, right?

Was he on vacation in Hawaii or was that the cover for this birth certificate question. Should not this be resolved before DNC convention, and he is entitled to be president then he should be the one leading the charge to clear this up. Not doing so is that a judgment problem or a cover up problem?

If he is so young and full of energy, then why does he need a vacation rather then just slowing down? Why not vacation with his children? As a family value person does he think they do not miss him while he was campaigning and if that is true what does that say?

I think, as the saying goes, it is time to put his feet to the fire, the way we have with McCain and Hillary, and stop treating him like a star or a savior. Maybe that is what he needed a vacation from? It is hard work to pretend or maintain the illusion that one is more then what they really are.

Does anyone beside me remember the Tortoise and the Hare fairytale? The Hare was all over the place acting like a fool but look who ultimately won the race. I would say that we witnessing that on two fronts as we speak. The Hare is racing two turtles and will loose to both!
