Think about it people – Obama’s grandmother is basically under a type of house arrest. She is only allowed out once a day and when she is she is not allowed to speak to the press. On the few occasions this has occurred, the daughter (Obama’s half sister) is glued to her side censoring everything. Now Obama goes to Hawaii without family – while this birth certificate controversy is ongoing…do any of you smell something fishy?

So, the Russians rolled into South Ossetia the next day and pushed the Georgians back.

Then they rolled into Georgia, to make an unmistakable point. This was an overreaction, but it certainly wasn’t unprovoked, and it certainly wasn’t unpredictable.

They then gave the Ukraine a hard look and shook their finger.

The Russians would probably be behaving a lot better if we didn’t keep trying to put new NATO-member states right on their borders. How would we react if Canada or Mexico were suddenly part of a Russian or Chinese military pact, and Russian or Chinese troops and weapons moved in?

Or if the Russians or Chinese were talking about putting a ballistic missile defense system just across the Canadian or Mexican border?

Russia invaded Georgia because of western provocation. Georgia probably triggered the whole disaster because they’ve been led to believe they’d get U.S. support if they moved troops into South Ossetia and Russia reacted. Who do you suppose they got that goofy idea from?

I think the timing of this vacation makes little sense other than, as some have pointed out, it gets gets a favorite political target out of the range of hostile potshots. As you have indicated, a better use of his time would have been staying closer to home courting his Democratic adversaries. Then again, the less he opens his mouth for spontaenous comments, the less likely he is to make stupid gaffes. He very well may be trying to locate a bona fide copy of his birth certificate. Senator Barack Obama’s campaign announced today that more than 65,000 new donors contributed to the Obama campaign during the month of July, bringing the total raised for the month to over $51 million. More than 2 million people have now contributed to the campaign.
“The 65,000 new donors to the Obama campaign demonstrate just how strongly the American people are looking to fundamentally change business as usual in Washington. We are proud of the millions of volunteers and more than two million donors to the Obama campaign who will provide the backbone of our campaign to put America back on track and reject the old politics and failed Bush policies, which is all John McCain is offering,” said David Plouffe, campaign manager of Obama for America.

The Obama campaign also says they now have roughly $65 million on hand.

Obama raised $52 million last month, and with the $51 million this month we can see that Obama has kept the pace of roughly $50 million a month he needs to meet his goal of raising $300 million or more.

Obama’s haul is also nearly double the $27 million raised by McCain in July. The McCain campaign and Republican National Committee have roughly $100 million on hand. The DNC’s numbers are expected sometime this weekend, so we’ll soon be able to see how the two sides stack up against each other.

You forgot all his hard work as Chairman of the Senate subcommittee on the Afghanistan war which just tuckered him out and interfered with his campaign schedule….oops, I think it was the other way around.

Obama talks about judgment. What does it say about him if he can not figure out what kind of situation is serious enough to come back from vacation. A real possibility of a conflict with Russia is not it? I know he is not the president but he still is a senator, right?

Was he on vacation in Hawaii or was that the cover for this birth certificate question. Should not this be resolved before DNC convention, and he is entitled to be president then he should be the one leading the charge to clear this up. Not doing so is that a judgment problem or a cover up problem?

If he is so young and full of energy, then why does he need a vacation rather then just slowing down? Why not vacation with his children? As a family value person does he think they do not miss him while he was campaigning and if that is true what does that say?

I think, as the saying goes, it is time to put his feet to the fire, the way we have with McCain and Hillary, and stop treating him like a star or a savior. Maybe that is what he needed a vacation from? It is hard work to pretend or maintain the illusion that one is more then what they really are.

well, McCain’s match and $85 million in public financing (thank you, America) that puts him over $100 million right there; the RNC has $96 million; the 527s probably $200 million (conservatively, pun intended)….so that would put the republicans in pretty good stead.

Now Barky Soetoro is going to have to raise that amount of money each month for him to compete. And seeing like he likes to spend in on adds about himself–which are saturating the market–and large rallies with big speeches, I think he’ll spend but won’t see payoff in the polls.

The Russians have the world’s largest natural gas reserves, the world’s second-largest coal reserves, and the world’s eighth-largest oil reserves, all within their own national borders. The Russians are fixed up just fine with regard to energy assets.

If anybody’s got their eye on somebody elses oil and gas, that would be us. (The invasion of Iraq, remember? Trying to turn Georgia into a western NATO state, remember?)
