Obama Was Right!!

Struggling to answer the question about abortion in Saturday night’s religious forum, Barack “Barry Soetoro” Obama did succeed in getting one thing right–he said, “that’s above my pay grade.”

Let’s give the man some credit, he nailed it. In fact, being President is above his damn pay grade. He aptly demonstrated last night that he’s not ready for primetime. Here is a condensed version of McCain vs. Obama. While I don’t agree with McCain on several issues–his anti-gay marriage stance is one–Obama does not offer up a stark contrast. Hell, he backed McCain on the gay marriage question.

Here’s part I:

And who would you rather consult with on making America better? General David Petraeus and Ebay founder Meg Whitman or Michelle Obama and Granny Dunham? Jesus!!

  • bwana

okay, smart guy. when does life begin?

    • WildChild

when the primative atmosphere of a planet is capable of sustaining liquid water to such a depth that the normally fragile organic molecules needed for cell formation are protected from the destructive effect of UVc and that condition is maintained for such duration that these chemicals can concentrate and build the required chains and structures for the self replicating, sustained chemical reaction we call a cell.

      • imustprotest

Oh man WildChild, that’s what I was gonna say!
        ;)

        • missE

          LOL !!

          • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

            Right ON!

whew I was worried a bit that I was strictly in a fundie hang out.

CHOICE is a deal breaker for me!

            THEY BOTH FAILED!!

            • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

              meaning

I am PRO CHOICE and if they are NOT then that is a deal breaker/vote breaker

              among other things of course

      • bwana

one cell does not an embryo, nor a human life, make.

are you agreeing with mcbush — life begins at conception? are you pro-life?

        • RepublicanChick

What if I am pro-life? I differ from many on here when life begins. And?

I can at least tell you where McCain stands on abortion. I could have told you last year at this time, last month, and an hour ago where McCain stood.

I can’t tell you from one second to the next where Obama stands on his white grandmother–let alone abortion.

One second she’s under the bus and the next she’s one of his 3 inspiring people?

Get me an aspirin please. This is going to be a long few months.

          • TeakwoodKite

This is going to be a long few months

            Yes, it will be.

Personally I can’t tell when “BO” begins; except as WildChild said “primordial soup” goes great with waffles.

            • Danny

“Personally I can’t tell when “BO” begins;”

Let me refrase that for you.

              Personally I can’t tell when “BS” begins;

          • vinnie

You go repubchick! LOL! I’m still laughing over granny being his top 3. If he’s so proud of her, why is she under house arrest?

          • bwana

a pro-life reep. how nice. what’re the chances you would ever vote for any dem, let alone obama.

congrats. you fit right in here…

            • http://! Clinton Fan

Well, plainly you don’t, ya race-baiting asshole. “Bwana?”

              Give me a break.

Funny how all those Dem prolifers like, oh, Bob CASEY, and possible VP pick Tim KAINE have no problem supporting your Idol.

So, your thesis, rather like you, SUCKS.

Begone, troll. Your “concern” has morphed to outright fear–and you should be Very Afraid, because your Messiah isn’t going to win in November. And it’s ALL YOUR FAULT.

We point at you, and LAUGH.

              Bwahahahahahahaha!

            • Patrick

Okay, the speciousness of this argument has been discarded for years now. Yes, I’m a centrist republican. I am VERY MUCH PRO CHOICE, I am VERY MUCH pro gay marriage. I despise it when religion and politics mix. But I will not let two issues of THOUSANDS hold sway over my choice for president. And for you to try to hold pro-choice women hostage via their uteri is absolutely the most sexist argument you can make..

              It is disproportionately disgusting.

              With respect,
              Patrick

              • Ferdberfle

Well said. The use of wedge issues to divert attention from real issues in need of immediate attention does the electorate a disservice.

            • Lucinda

a pro-life reep. how nice. what’re the chances you would ever vote for any dem, let alone obama.

congrats. you fit right in here…

As usual, the troll completely missed the point. The argument wasn’t about being pro-life or not. The argument was about knowing exactly where a candidate stands on important issues. Obama is like a leaf in a wind storm.

            • http://BHOtroll sakel

Bwana – You’re just another obamyopic impecunious dunderhead!

When does life begin? In your case, at the time your female parent omitted her dose of the morning after meds. Surely, the parthenogenesis of idiocy in your case was the cruel afermath that did not require ‘two to tango’.

Why don’t you uh uh go back to Hawaii to do body surfin’ with Precious, eh? Unless it’s above your pay grade–like comprenending diversity of opinion does not an unDemocrat make.

Obamyopia is still curable. Get help!

          • workingclass artist

Preachers want to make this a moral argument about life. Feminists want to make this a legal argument civil rights.
The Supreme Court recognized that the state is in violation of a womans right to choose what decisions should be made as to her body.
If Roe. v Wade is repealed it must be done on an equal basis according to both sexes in order to be legally just in application.
So….If the State has the Right to enforce Legal Jurisdiction that forces Women to reproduce….It also has the Legal Jurisdiction to enforce Prevention of reproduction ( China anyone ? ). If the State has the Legal Jurisdiction to enforce legislation over reproductive rights then it must enforce this power over Men. The State must enforce equally Population Controls over Men as well as Women. In the 21st century….The State could enforce sterility program to ensure the perpetuation of a certain class or race. The state could enforce Breeding.
Abortion should be overseen by the state as any other Health Care Management program to insure quality care and availability BUT when the State takes the role of Puritan to enforce Morality that oversteps it’s primary role then a dangerous line has been crossed.
Theocracy is just another form of FASCISM.
Pro-Lifers never want to engage in the LEGAL argument…WHY ?
Because the LEGAL ARGUMENT exposes the necessity of UNIVERSAL APPLICATION…..AND THE FASCIST REALITY OF SUCH APPLICATION.

          • BernieO

I wondered when I saw O visited granny without Michelle and the girls that maybe she has dementia and that was why he went alone. But then he cites her as someone he goes to for advice.

Does anyone know if his kids ever did visit her?

She still lives in an apartment, which means she must not be in really bad shape? (Or do I have this wrong?) So why wouldn’t he take his family to see her. You would think he would want his daughters to know her, even if it means they have to crawl under the bus to visit.

          • Liz B

I have been Pro Choice all my life, primarily because I did not want to see the return of back street abortions. BUT I believe that any termination of pregnancy must be obtained in the embryonic stage…does that mean I don’t believe that an embryo is a living being? No. I am smart enough to know it is a human being from the moment of conception. BO did not want to have to admit at the Conference that he supports the right to terminate pregnancy for the entire pregnancy…I guess he knows that would be a dealbreaker with those Evangelicans he so desperately needs, and I feel could not possibly be. He claims to be a Christian, but I have Muslim friends who know the Bible as well as they know the Koran. Afterall, it’s not like he hasn’t lied about everything about himself, is it?

          • http://BHOtroll sakel

            Republican chick, you’re right on!

One minute he thorows granny Dunham under the bus of his political expediency and the next he’s appointed her Secretary of State!

I think Obama would have been far more effective if he had mentioned that Uncle Jeremia Wright would head his White House Spiritual Advisory Committee. I don’t think Granny Dunham would mind having him also rescued from under the bus. They’re old buddies by now!

        • WildChild

perhaps I wasn’t clear the first time. Please allow me to clarify…

…when the primitive atmosphere of a planet is capable of sustaining liquid water to such a depth that the normally fragile organic molecules needed for cell formation are protected from the destructive effect of UVc and that condition is maintained for such duration that these chemicals can concentrate and build the required chains and structures for the self replicating, sustained chemical reaction we call a cell.

        • truthtelling007

“one cell does not an embryo, nor a human life, make.

are you agreeing with mcbush — life begins at conception? are you pro-life?”

Well, yes, one cell is not an embryo…nor a ‘human life’ make oh wishuwerebard. i think your question is a bunch of blah blah from the left that is as mundane and pedestrian as the lowlifes of the right wing.

I don’t think life begins at conception, I believe it continues through conception. I don’t care that there is one cell, it is still life. But that doesn’t keep me from understanding the complexities involved in an abortion. I will be an advocate for women to make their own choices for the rest of my life, but I am pro-life. I have only a few types of insects I will kill because they are problems, like mosquitoes and fleas. Outside that, yes I’m pretty pro-life.

          Death to memes.

          • workingclass artist

Here is another way to look at this can o’ worms. How much Power does the state have. If the state has the power to decide what LIFE is then that state can enforce legislation to judge quality of life. This legal argument is really about the role of the state.
            1. Does the state have the justified power to legislate reproductive activities in it’s citizens. If so is this universally applied. How is this applied ?
            2. Does the state have the right to enforce Morality based on religious principles upon citizens who are not affiliated with any religion or whose preferred religion contradicts the morality the state is trying to enforce universally. How is this applied and who decides on the criteria.
            3. Does the State have the right to decide on the value of any life whether this be a single cell or an aged and unproductive member of society.
            4. Does the State have the right to enforce Health Care Decisions that contradict those made by individuals and qualified Physicians. If so it means care of any kind can be denied to anyone if the state decides to deny it.
Abortion is about a lot more than what the preachers want folks to think about. It is abut the ROLE OF THE STATE IN THE LIVES OF THE CITIZENS AND THE POWER RATIO WHICH CONFLICTS WITH THE STATED PRINCIPLES OF OUR DEMOCRACY AND OUR CONSTITUTION.

            • Ferdberfle

Good questions that everyone should actually take a step back and ponder. It involves much more than abortion rights. The political chest thumping over Terri Schiavo was a warning.

              • workingclass artist

The lawyers make it so difficult for most folks to even ponder because lawyers speak…legal lingo….chuckle….
preachers quote the holy writ they edit….and philosophers speak in multi syllables that prolong the agony…..chuckle…..
Sometimes it is the gifted fiction writers who enable the populace
to wrap their head around the tricky stuff so they can make informed judgments…..
The Greeks did it with Drama and Poetry. The Romans and Europeans did it with Criticism……We have Science Fiction, Orwell and Bladerunner.
What makes Democracy ” DEVINE ” so to speak….chuckle….Is that it is always about the messy application of human rights and when the application falls short of the principle….it exposes the fallacy of republicanism and adjustments are made. Hence the emancipation Proclaimation was a democratic ideal and yet the civil rights act exposed the republicanism in uneven application. Republics always have this problem in democratic administration….and as such are always vulnerable to power brokers who have agendas that conflict with democracy. Sorta the price of doin business…..As long as the US is the US this will be indicative of our socio/political evolution in fact it is the very reason ” Our Great Experiment ” came into beingand must be preserved.
Nothin is more neat and tidy then your average totalitarian Govt.

                • Ferdberfle

Agreed. I count the messiness (and its associated potential for anarchy) on the plus side. That’s why Oblahblah’s call to change is so disconcerting. He’s allegedly a Constitutional scholar while having no understanding the the entire system is pre-designed to resist change (those pesky founders understood the inherent messiness, potential anarchy, and the need to keep a fairly robust lid on it).

                  • workingclass artist

I agree with you except on one precept…Obama knows full well what he is doing.
In order to effectively obfuscate you must have an intimate knowledge of the elements you are manipulating.
Some of the best experts on Christianity and it’s theology are well historically….Jewish Rabbis….chuckle…..
Some of the best experts on Captialism/Republics are…Marxist/Fascists seeing to seduce the population into overthrowing said system…..
Today in an age of SYNTHESIS…..WE HAVE THIS NEW SYNTHESIS OF FORMALLY OPPOSING ELEMENTS…..
THUS… Religion can be combines with socialism and become Fascism under another name…..and Synthetic Obama/Soetero is the perfect vessel for the times….
This is why the New Left aint’ the old Left….chuckle…
One thing is clear…..Americans have a peculiar allergy to Fascism ( I think it is the remnant of English Common Law DNA and Schism ) as the English cling to their peculiar system….We cling to ours in a similar fashion and the French cling to theirs even when they are overrun. France being a formally Catholic Country were like the rest of Catholic Europe vulnerable….And Hitler knew it and played it for all it was worth.
Fascism is what it is no matter what trendy name it has….

              • Bettysue

Af far as Terri Schiavo goes, that would have all been avoided if only she had a living will. We all should have those to protect ourselves and our loved ones from something like what happened in the Schiavo case.
Abortion on demand is wrong and as Hillary says, abortion should be rare, necessary and safe. The partial birth abortion is a very cruel inhumane act and should never be considered to be made legal.
Obama approved of that very humane act and voted for it to be legal.
Yes he’s got a problem with that against John McCain or anyone who has a conscience.

                • Bettysue

I meant to say “inhumane act, not humane act”
                  Partial birth abortion is inhumane.

                  • workingclass artist

Hmmm…..Bettysue, I’m not going to defend Obama or the partial Birth abortion issue. I am going to say that for ME as an individual this issue has always been broader and deeper than it’s elements. For me the issue is about the role of the state in a democracy. How much POWER the state has in the lives of it’s citizenry.
I don’t want the STATE to EXERCISE TYRANNY OVER PRIVATE DECISIONS BETWEEN RATIONAL LAW ABIDING INDIVDUALS WHO ARE OF LEGAL CONSENTING AGE.
Whether this be in the bedroom…or the clinic….
If the state is granted this POWER it is granted it universally under our current system of court actions.
So…if the STATE has the power to CONTROL Reproductive rights through enforcement of unwanted pregnancies it ALSO has the right to PREVENT wanted pregnancies as is done in China. Or the STATE is given the right to justify adjudication of desirable pregnancies as in deciding genetic preferences for breeding. I’m not saying there should not be oversight and regulation as this is the responsible role of government….But I am saying that this is a legal slippery slope. We as a citizenry have not only our own recent history as example ( pre ROE v WADE US )
bu we also have the recent and current history of societies around the world to consider…when seeing TYRANNY OF THE STATE over PERSONAL LIBERTY….For example…
                    China….Population Controls and forced abortions
Romania….Forced Breeding Programs and Overpopulated State run Orphanages
If you add to this consideration that none of these issues is GENDER EQUAL in application then you have the true herring exposed for what it is…GENDER CONTROL
Now you have governmental sponsored and culturally endorsed FEMALE SUBJUGATION AND PERSECUTION….
When a society allows the persecution of a population deemed weaker and justifies this then you have the slippery slope….
Why is Rape tolerated as a weapon of WAR….Because the society in which this occurs allows for the subjugation and persecution of citizenry whose value it has judged to be of UNEQUAL STATUS.
Our current laws are based on protecting the weakest of our population against the stronger tyranny of the majority.
If we allow the STATE TO CONTROL REPRODUCTIVE CONDUCT AND RIGHTS….WE MUST ALLOW THIS TO BE APPLIED EQUALLY TO ALL MEMBERS OF BOTH GENDERS WHETHER THEY CONSENT OR NOT…
If the state can FORCE WOMEN TO MAINTAIN PREGNANCY AGAINST THEIR WILL…THEY SHOULD SELECTIVELY FORCE STERILIZATION OF MEN TO CONTROL POPULATION AGAINST THEIR WILL IN EQUAL APPLICATION….
And Hey ! Why not sponsor Preferential gender selection while we’re at it so that pregnancies can be controlled to the degree where only gender preferred ( say male ) pregnancies valued by the culture are allowed….Sonograms are so handy for that kinda thing…
and the STATE can decide what is preferential and the STATE can eliminate choice and and give a little pill to insure that it’s power is maintained…..
IMHO….It is the broader context that clinches the decision for both women and men in this country….
Now this issue looks a little different…..no ?

When a baby take its first breath on its own.

I’ve heard OB doctors and nurses say it’s a magical moment. Very spiritual.

      • roseeriter

Kind of like one’s last gasp before death. I trained in Hospice and that moment is also very spiritual.

Regardless the whole life/marriage issue should stay personal and not political, just like the separation of church and state.

That’s when a ‘fetus takes its first breath on its own. Then its a baby’. The ‘pro-lifers’ love to jam those words ‘baby and life’ down the throats of anyone listening. Don’t fall into that trap.

        • Liz B

You obviously have never had a baby, or else you would have true KNOWLEDGE of all the nights you couldn’t sleep because the baby kicking you kept you awake…are you so ignorant that you believe nonliving things grow, suck their thumbs and kick…very hard I might add…well, whatever lets you sleep at night.

This is NOT a non issue if pharmacists can decide willy nilly nor to fulfill a prescription because JEZUS told em’ not to….There are pharmacists around the country who are refusing to fill out RX’s of the after pill an birth control pills…..Our foreign aid is adjusted based on Extremists not supporting the distribution of Birth control or rubbers…..This is BLATANT ANTI-FEMALE

    • BernieO

This question is bogus. Sperm and egg, and all cells in our bodies are living, so life definitely does not “begin” at conception. The question should be “When is a human person formed?”

All cells in our bodies except sperm and eggs contain a full set of our genetic code. Sperm and egg have half. After conception the embryo has a full complement plus some of the others things needed for it to become a person but it is not yet a person.

So the question should be at what point is that fetus a person. People want a clearly defined place in development that can be designated but reality is that there is no such point since this is a gradual process. Even the Catholic Church did not declare abortion to be murder until the EARLY TWENTIETH CENTURY and this was not based on any new scientific evidence, just a declaration that at that point God “breathed a soul” into the embryo. Yet even the Church does not treat a fetus as a human being. If it did it would instruct women to baptize a miscarriage and give the fetus a Catholic burial.

I know people who swear that abortion is murder but think it should be allowed in the case of rape or incest. Can you imagine those same people allowing the killing of a newborn who is the product of either rape or incest?
If you go out to the henhouse, get some eggs and make an omelet you do not tell people that you ate whole chickens for breakfast, even if those eggs were fertile. Nor do we snack on a walnut then say we just ate a tree. Yet embryos are the biological equivalent of eggs and seeds. They all carry a full set of instructions for creating a new individual of their species.

For that matter every cell in our bodies contain a full set of these instructions (except for sperm and eggs). As our ability to clone develops we will have the ability to turn any of these cells into a new human person. Are we now going to have to treat amputation as mass murder because all these potential people have been destroyed?

There is no exact point at which a new human person begins, much as we might wish there to be. Great theologians like Aquinas have historically set this as the time a fetus has a fully developed neurological system, around the end of the second month. Society also recognizes this point, hence the restrictions on late term abortions to situations where there is a significant theat to the mother.

It is time we separate religious from scientific views on this issue and stop trying to force specific religious beliefs on all. This is a violation of our Constitution.

It’s also strange that he started off an answer admitting he cheated:

    • roseeriter

I’ve heard that remark ‘above my paygrade’ before from a politician about the abortion question in a political forum. I’m thinking it might have been Biden and he got a lot of laughs for it which might be what Obama wanted. Obama’s steals votes and words and anything else he can get his hands on.

      • DAB

It does sound more like Biden than Obama. Because of his own personal style Biden probably could have pulled off that answer. Coming from Obama though it sounded way too flip and insensitive.

Which of the below quotes doesn’t fit in?

    1. “The buck stops here.”
    2. *We have nothing to fear but fear itself.”
    3. “Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall.”
    4. “That’s above my pay grade.”

Will “That’s above my pay grade” become the motto of the Obama administration? It seems to fit in quite well with, “We are the ones that we’ve been waiting for.”

It is time for Obama to drop out of the race — he is becoming a major embarrasement to the US.

      • candymarl

Obama brought God into the same sex marriage question. Why not the abortion question?

        Oy.

        • Pink Panther

What is the gay community saying about Obama’s answer to the same sex marriage question?

      • elise

Tumby, he is an arrogant fool. I can think of half a dozen ways to answer that question without trying to be flippant. He agreed to meet for a discussion in a setting that has no place in politics, but he has refused to debate McCain one on one so he left himself wide open for that question. He wants the conservative vote and he is groveling because he has dismissed those who would traditionally support the Democratic platform. The setting for McCain was perfect and Obama fell into the trap. By the time he meets McCain face to face, which I think is Sept. if he is the nominee, some of the answers he gave Saturday will be thrown in his face. His cute little dismissive gestures won’t work anymore.

      • roseeriter

No Obama is just a fool on you period.

      • Lucinda

So you would prefer it if the President DID use his personal religious beliefs to set the American agenda?
Isn’t this the kind of stuff we’re trying to get rid of?
This was a textbook example of a loaded question. If Obama answers it, he’s an arrogant fool trying to play God; if he sidesteps it, he’s a mindless fool refusing to give the base-satisfying pander.

        I’ll just settle for honesty.
A President should be able tell/show/demonstrate what he/she believes in without making it part of an agenda. Millions of people do that every day.

      • Retired

No, what I would prefer is a President with the moral courage to tell me how he feels when he is asked a direct question instead of coming up with a flip, weasel-worded, politically correct response in order to avoid commitment. Many times I can respect someone that I may disagree with if they have the moral courage to clearly state their belief. I find it it hard to vote for someone who has so little moral courage that they answer a serious question with a flippant response that, at least when I was in government service, was the sign of an uninspired weasel who lacked initiative and was constantly trying to avoid their oath of office and moral responsibility of honest service to their fellow citizens.

  • http://confloyd connie floyd

Yes Larry he really fumbled the ball on that Saddleback interview. He really showed how inexperienced he truly is. Of coarse his inexperienced is the least of what I worry about with an Obama Presidency, the man has too many secrets and too many people are keeping them safely wrapped up for him. Hopefully this week some of will come out. I hope so.
I saw Hillary today in New Mexico and she had the crowd screaming for her. Fox said she looked like a rock star up there with everybody just crazy for her. I really miss seeing that, well maybe the Puma’s will prevail!

    • Andy

      Any news about her debt?

      I miss her too!!

    • American Woman

I miss her too…I bet she gets the best ratings…FOX will let us know the truth about the ratings in Prime Time anyways..

    • btintaos

Hey, Connie Floyd, I was there, too. I’m sure you agree that, no matter what Hillary does, she can’t hide her presidential aura. The lady in front of me said to her husband, “I’d rather have her.”

  • missE

Now I get the cheating allegation, McCain copied Obama’s anti gay marriage answer.

    • Hope Floats

You’re joking. Right? That has been what every single Republican candidate has said in every election.

      • candymarl

You don’t understand. Nobody knew anything about anything until Obama showed up with all of the answers!

He’s here to save us all!

Yes, they thing HE is the beginning and the end, the Alpha and Omega, the true words of wisdom to lead the entire WORLD to an ever lasting peace.

To Christians their devout praise of his hopey changey do no wrong perfection is blasphemy at worst and heretical at best.

To the non-secular and non-indoctrinated it is mere delusion and messiah making foolishness.

He sure isn’t the ONE I’ve been waiting for and that expression alone is a great reason to sincerely be terrified of that man coming into power. OPRAH and CAROLINE foisted his celebrity upon a gullible public desperate for an idol.

We all know what happened to the golden calf, according to the bible and the koran, so barfy must be aware of the destruction of false idols.

          • karen for Clinton

as the above whized past my eyes I noticed the word thing instead of THINK.

            4:40 am here. more coffee.

Also wanted to add, back in January there were plenty of previously exposed concrete examples of why this man was not, and would not ever be, fit to become President. That he was even a candidate, let alone presumed nominee, has been an exercise in futility.

Who sent ob? All the wrong people.

If granny is his moral, spiritual, political adviser and confidant then we should have access to her advice to him, MEchelle’s too.

We already know what kind of advice Teddy would give him, and that isn’t comforting.

Really now ob, you must be putting us on.

HRC would have aced these questions. Sigh.

            • Hope

HRC would have aced these questions. Sigh.
She did. They had a similar forum in which she and Obama were questioned separately on issues of Faith and policy.
Hillary was,as usual, brilliant however; Obama recieved all the applause and all the positive press for his mediocre answers.

              • karen for Clinton

Yep, saw that one, and yes, she was “all that” and more.

They did this to her constantly. One time that really irked me to no end was the RFK flap and painting her as an evil demon.

I had watched the video of that whole interview and although I thought she was remarkable in her knowledge and her stances showed incredible judgment and foresight, there wasn’t a moment when I felt anything odd had been said. Overall it was brilliant.

I was horrified by the supermarket gang up on her and the endless press stories portraying her as on a death watch.

Just astounding how they twisted it, and it was so obvious they had not listened to the entire interview which lasted around 30 min.

  • Clara Barton

Larry, the consternation you expressed in your last sentence made me laugh out loud. I actually watched some of the forum again tonight to see again just how badly he performed! (The Olympics didn’t have much interesting on during that time) What a joke – it’s amazing he got the applause that he did. Pretty stark contrast on almost every answer and the damn hemming and hawing is going to drive me insane.

    • Ai1een

I can’t stand his ummmm – uhhhhhhs – and the pundits on FOX afterwards said Obama was eloquent …ELOQUENT?

      • TeakwoodKite

        Obama was eloquent …

Did not Sen. Biden get his ass chewed for saying that?

My husband and I watched on the internet Sunday and hubby got so twitchy and nervous while watching BO that we decided to cut it short and go to McCain.
McCain was so smooth, compelling and interesting that the Obamas are now accusing him of cheating. They seem to know that they were outdone by McCain and are now squaling like little petulant animals.

  • Northwest rain

Barry Soetoro Obama has a history of accusing others of what he is guilty of. Today Barry is claiming that McCain cheated and HEARD Berry’s answers.

Well we know that Barry loves to go second and steal/copy other people’s answers.

I think Barry’s answers were predictable and McCain didn’t need to hear what Barry Soetoro said.

    • hank

I’m sure there was a coin flip of some kind. On the other hand, it was a “wise” coin that decided to put Obama first. He’s a complete plagiarist. And I agree, McCain does NOT need to hear someone else’s answers. My goodness he’s got his own and pretty darned sure of them. Unfortunately I have deep disagreements with some of them. But he is a man of honor, that much is clear.

    • Ai1een

They kept them separated and they were not allowed to hear the questions or answers.

    • Obama is a bum

I would not advise McCain to listen to Obama’s answers, there is too much of a risk for McCain of busting his gut laughing.

Richardson had the audacity to say “he was worried about Hillary’s name being placed in nomination but now he ok with it because she will be giving up her delegates and the party will be united.” What a crock of bull ____. I cannot even say how angry I am at the nerve of these democratic leaders to think that Hillary does not deserve to have her name in nomination and that by doing so she might actually win if she did not promise to release her delegates. These guys are PIGS. Total and complete PIGS. I hope one day what goes around comes around and these individuals get what is coming to them. Richardson in my book is a first class loser who will sell his soul to fit in.

yes. Hillary is under no illusions that she is going to get the nom. She is well aware that the Obama camp is using her to give out fake unity. She doesn’t have much of a choice.

They are going to Nominate her and she has been told if she wants to have ny political life left she better f*ckin release her delegates to obama in her speach. The roll call is going to be run so that no super delegate has to announce their vote. They are going to use Hillarys earned delegates to push barry over the top on tv.

Its a well orchestrated scam designed to give the veiwing public the impression that their is party unity with the added benefit of reinforcing the myth that Obama had way more delegates than Hillary.

Poor woman, they are politically sodomizing her all they can to get this fraud elected.

        Its just a shame.

I just heard Rick Sanchez say on CNN that Mc Cain was not under the “cone of silence”during the Saddleback Church debate. He wasn’t even in the building!. CNN reporters saw him arrive about a half an hour after Obama started the interview, so he could have been listening to the questions and planning his answers with his campaign strategists. Rick confronted the moderator right on the air, and he totally evaded the question. Instead he said that he had given both McCain and Obama the first question to make them feel comfortable.
Sooo, if you can’t trust the evangelical clergy to tell the truth, we’re really in trouble. I thought that it was strange that McCain, who gets his facts mixed up often, was so quick to answer and so quick to come up with all those names of the Justices he would not have appointed.
McCain began answering sometimes even before the moderator had finished stating the question.
The Republican Party has really hit bottom in my book.

    • http://www.americanthinker.com/2008/08/obamas_donor_contributions_sil.html Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright

oh man. will the excuses for Obama and his subpar performance never ever end? How many apologists does it take to screw in an inadequate candidate?

None of those questions were difficult to begin with for a person running for president. All of them should have been easy answers for both candidates.

The fact that Obullshits failed another test just means he sucks.

So McCain arrives half an hour late…tell us was he carrying a portable TV with him as he walked in so he could watch sattelite CNN?

Did it ever occur to you that the Messiah just sucks aoff the teleprompter? NO? well then you have not been paying attention.

    • StrawberrybitesBarky

Oh God. You idiot. If, as you say, McCain always ‘gets his facts mixed up’, what makes you think he can remember all the questions and answers beforehand then answer them before the moderator finishes the question? McCain is actually quite brilliant and sarcastic. Read his slam letter to Barky. It was posted here earlier. He hands Barky his ass. Barky is just an idiot and can’t think on his feet, just like Bush against Kerry in 2004.

    • http://www.http://unityindiversity-spiritedpolitics.blogspot.com unity

At this point the Republican party’s bottom is several levels of hell higher than the Democratic party is!

WTF is this guy doing to say – on national TV – that he would rely on mobama’s advice #1 (Heaven help us) and NEXT, he would talk to his grandmother.

Anyone who reads the news knows that in HA last week, he visited his “typical white grandmother” surrounded only by secret service. mobama couldn’t be bothered to say hi or let Grandma see the kids. After all, all she did was raise the bxxxxxx and put him through private school. But they can’t even stop by. And they have their Rezko mansion while she lives in the same little apartment where she helped support this monster- with his fake “I am a man of strong family values” ads.

Oh, I know, he must mean he would talk to his African Muslim step-grandmother for advice – since his actual Grandma he hasn’t the time of day for.

      Oh,

    • cdo

really how stupid can you get?
which of the questions was so damn hard, or even unusual for a politician to get asked? abortion? oh noes?!! no one has ever asked about that before!

its not like they were being grilled on specific economic policy issues, or asked to name all the state capitols.

mccain’s answers were concise and short because he already had a position!
obama doesn’t have a position on anything because he will say whatever is convenient at the time to placate a particular crowd.

the big problem for obama is that modus operendi isn’t going to cut it in the big leagues. he is such an amateur it makes me want to hide my head whenever someone says the word “democrat”.

After the flip, the Obama campaign claims the coin used was likely Harvey Dent’s two headed Batman Coin, how else do you explain obama going first?

But unfortunately Barry borrowed it for the nearby vending maching to get some coke so they lost the evidence and therefore will not pursue it.

Oh yeah, Carin. That’s rich. Try and explain away McCain’s superior command of the facts by alleging that he was cheating. LOL!!! The fact is that McCain knows his shit. Obama doesn’t. Deal with it and quit crying.

    • http://chriss chris

Too funny. Guess JM is really a super genius! He could memorize not only what he was going to be asked but rehearsed all his answers and facts in about 15 minutes or so and remembered every one of them. Great work John! You OB worshipers are just so lacking in common sense that it is really frightening. You accept whatever the goofs in the MSM and the Dem party mouths say without even thinking about it. This is going to be one long laugh o’ rama of an election if your dimwit OB gets the nomination. Hillary, you need to run and hide for the next few months if you’re not the nominee. You don’t want the stupid dust coming from your party to fall on you. Pick up the pieces later when they all disappear into lala land. Yikes.

      • usaproud

Obots why not plan ahead for the other debates as your “GOD” is going to blow it even more as they go on…. McCain is an American, Obama a FRAUD

    • vinnie

The republican party has hit rock bottom??! You’re on crack! Last time I checked, they don’t have PUMAs and the likes protesting the party sh*tty leadership and fraud in the states caucuses!! BS/BO is a terrible debater and everyone knows it except for his worshipers. When his ass got kicked by Hillary in PA, you all accused Hillary of knowing the answers before hand too. This is getting as old as the ‘racism’ charge. Let’s call a spade a spade, Barry Soetoro sucks without his teleprompter.

    • mimi

You know, if 0bama was a better debater, I could buy this bullcrap. But he can barely talk. Even if McCain listened, didn’t he have to appear immediately.

Come on now really. How much time is that to prepare?

These people have more gall than I can stand. 0bama’s pissed off he had to go first. What? Did he lose the toss?

He got so used to being pampered by the msm during the debates with Hillary, he really can’t cope.

      Too bad!

    • Ai1een

You’ve GOT to be kidding me. What are you going to possibly come up with for Obama’s abysmal performances in the debates against Hillary (and even the other Dems)?

    • http://! Clinton Fan

Most “not retarded” Americans, particularly those who have worked in Washingon and, oh, VOTED ON THE NOMINATIONS OF THE JUSTICES, have no trouble remembering the names of ALL NINE of the Supremes.

Jesus. There’s nine of them. They have obvious ideological stances. And you’re finding something nefarious in THAT? Do you have severe memory issues, or something?

Talk about grasping at straws. DESPERATE. Anything to mitigate The Idol’s FerShit performance…

If the Pastor had asked McCain to name the starting players for game three of the 1967 World Series, and he rattled those off without blinking, I’d say that bore investigation.

But naming the Supremes? There are twelve year olds who can do that without trouble.

McCain voted Up or Down to confirm them, AS SENATORS DO….he works just up the street from them. He KNOWS them–they’re on the same DC party circuit.

      Sheesh. Clueless.

People who don’t know how our government works should be crowned with their keyboards and prohibited from posting on political forums until they learn.

    • Lucinda

Sooo, if you can’t trust the evangelical clergy to tell the truth, we’re really in trouble. I thought that it was strange that McCain, who gets his facts mixed up often, was so quick to answer and so quick to come up with all those names of the Justices he would not have appointed.
McCain began answering sometimes even before the moderator had finished stating the question.

And how often have you listened to McCain in the past? The man holds Town Hall meetings every day and rarely even uses notes. He does not get his facts mixed up often. Oh, I know. You’re talking about that one incident where he mixed up two Muslin sects, and the press beat it into the ground.

  • TeakwoodKite

At one point Barry said “I cheated” in response to a question.

And this is how Michelle Obama is a National Security expert? Because he is the “keeper” of his…(cough) ehem.

Is Frank gonna have a strip on that?

  • HillGirl

I am counting on ALL of the delegates to see that Obama is not “the one” as proclaimed on high by the DNC. That there will be a huge upset – contrary to reports that this is a what was the sad sack word? ~ “symbolic” ~ used by news anchors and newspapers.

I am looking outside and the stars are shining. It is a beautiful evening with a slight breeze. It’s Hillary season. No matter what the news says otherwise.

  • TeakwoodKite

Because he /she.. “its a he she.”

  • Judy

I caught 2 places that Obama gave himself away that he knew the questions ahead of time. One he said, I have to admit I cheated on this question, and I looked it up or did research on it before I came. WTF does that mean.

Axelrod has said over and over that questions to Obama must be submitted 2 weeks prior. I can’t remember the 2nd incident, but anyone caring to – go back and you will catch. Now, he is accusing McCain of knowing the questions – I will bet anything that Obama had the questions before the forum.

Someone call Rick Warren on it.

    • Tucson

2 weeks? Then, what is he going to do IF he gets a 3 am call? Is he going to spend 2 weeks before what to say? Simply amazing….

    • HillGirl

If that is true, good grief.

    • http://www.greensunshine.net jadwiga

I think he referred to the anticipation of that question.
None of the questions were too unexpected.

I am willing to believe that they didn’t know the questions.

      • http://www.saddlebackfamily.com/orphancare/index.html Faith-NoBama

Click my name for the link at saddleback. I think Obama was saying he cheated and that he probably studied Rick Warrens/Saddleback’s website.

Obama was too busy trying to please Rick Warren and the audience than conveying his own ideals. He wanted to fit in with that crowd. His hesitancy in responding is because he was so busy parsing his words to include that audience. McCain simply said what he believed–and his record proves his statements. Obama doesn’t have a record–at least none that confirms his positions on anything!

Which question was so hard? The supremes? Even I would have been able to tell you which ones I don’t like and I didn’t have to confirm them! My faith? No, I actually have only one of them.

These were not “Jeopardy” bonus round questions–these questions were simply to find out where someone stands on any issue! You see how troubling that would be for Obama–he had to think, hmmmm….am I talking to San Franciscans or Pennsylvanians? Am I trying to reach jews or palestinians? Am I trying to impress Americans or Europeans? You see–it gets tough when you are trying to be everything to everybody and simply not being yourself.

I watched 3 interviews of AA American Olympians-Kobe Bryant and the Williams sisters- and they were beaming from ear to ear and talking about how great America is and how happy they were to represent their country and win gold medals for America. Kobe’s interview was really moving. Try to find it if it’s available anywhere. Bimbo should watch them because he might see that most Americans love their country and are appreciative of the opportunities they get. These were all multi-millionaire AA who worked their way to success from humble backgrounds (unlike the fake humble background of BamBam) because America afforded them the opportunity to do it. What do you think about that Michelle huh? Take a look OB. They could teach you a thing or two.

      • mimi

There’s no reason for any AA who has achieved the American Dream, and that would include 0bama, to not love their country. 0bama and Michelle look utterly ridiculous espousing Black Liberation Theology. That’s for the still suffering AA underclass. People suffering poverty, joblessnes, stuck in violent urban ghettos, yeah people conditions like that can make a case for being angry.

        0bama? Not at all.

At least the Williams sisters, Kobe and other AAs who’ve achieved the ultimate have the sense to realize it.

Warren said, “I trust the integrity of both” candidates, and said he “knew they would abide by the rules.” He joked McCain may not have been in the cone of silence, but “he was in the cone of a Secret Service motorcade”.

Ross says the whole event only came about because of the relationship Warren has with both men. He said they all agreed to assure a “level field, “McCain would not hear the questions or Senator Obama’s answers.” The pastor spoke to each candidate this week, giving the general themes. Warren decided to tell them each the first two questions in advance, about the three wisest people you know, and the biggest moral failings.

For their part, an Obama spokesperson told CNN’s Mike Roselli they are not pursuing whether McCain heard any of the other questions. They say they assuming McCain had the same information they did.

I love it. McCAIN CAMP NOT TAKING ANY CRAP.

McCain’s campaign manager Rick Davis asked Sunday for a meeting with Steve Capus, the president of NBC News, to protest what the campaign called signs that the network is “abandoning non-partisan coverage of the Presidential race.”

Here is the text of the letter:

    August 17, 2008
    Mr. Steve Capus
    President, NBC News
    30 Rockefeller Plaza
    New York, NY 10112

    Steve:

We are extremely disappointed to see that the level of objectivity at NBC News has fallen so low that reporters are now giving voice to unsubstantiated, partisan claims in order to undercut John McCain.

Nowhere was this more evident than with NBC chief correspondent Andrea Mitchell’s comments on “Meet the Press” this morning. In analyzing last night’s presidential forum at Saddleback Church, Mitchell expressed the Obama campaign spin that John McCain could only have done so well last night because he “may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama.” Here are Andrea Mitchell’s comments in full:

Mitchell: “The Obama people must feel that he didn’t do quite as well as they might have wanted to in that context, because what they are putting out privately is that McCain may not have been in the cone of silence and may have had some ability to overhear what the questions were to Obama. He seemed so well-prepared.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 8/17/08)

Make no mistake: This is a serious charge. Andrea Mitchell is repeating, uncritically, a completely unsubstantiated Obama campaign claim that John McCain somehow cheated in last night’s forum at Saddleback Church. Instead of trying to substantiate this blatant falsehood in any way, Andrea Mitchell felt that she needed to repeat it on air to millions of “Meet the Press” viewers with no indication that 1.) There’s not one shred of evidence that it’s true; 2.) In his official correspondence to both campaigns, Pastor Rick Warren provided both candidates with information regarding the topic areas to be covered, which Barack Obama acknowledged during the forum when asked about Pastor Warren’s idea of an emergency plan for orphans and Obama said, “I cheated a little bit. I actually looked at this idea ahead of time, and I think it is a great idea;” 3.) John McCain actually requested that he and Barack Obama do the forum together on stage at the same time, making these kinds of after-the-fact complaints moot.

Indeed, instead of taking a critical journalistic approach to this spin, Andrea Mitchell did what has become a pattern for her of simply repeating Obama campaign talking points.

This is irresponsible journalism and sadly, indicative of the level of objectivity we have witnessed at NBC News this election cycle. Instead of examining the Obama campaign’s spin for truth before reporting it to more than 3 million NBC News viewers, Andrea Mitchell simply passed along Obama campaign conspiracy theories. The fact is that during Senator Obama’s segment at Saddleback last night, Senator McCain was in a motorcade to the event and then held in a green room with no broadcast feed. In the forum, John McCain clearly demonstrated to the American people that he is prepared to be our next President…..

We are concerned that your News Division is following MSNBC’s lead in abandoning non-partisan coverage of the Presidential race. We would like to request a meeting with you as soon as possible to discuss our deep concerns about the news standards and level of objectivity at NBC.

    Sincerely,

    Rick Davis
    Campaign Manager
    John McCain 2008

Here is an interesting item over at Politco.

    McCain protests NBC coverage

In this case, the campaign is objecting to a statement by NBC’s Andrea Mitchell on “Meet the Press” questioning whether McCain might have gotten a heads-up on some of the questions that were asked of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), who was the first candidate to be interviewed Saturday night by Pastor Rick Warren at a presidential forum on faith.

Obama was absolutely horrible in this interview. I cringed at many of his answers. It’s just embarrassing. Obama and his likely VP candidate Kaine are like B-list politicians within the Democratic Party. This is not the two candidate you want to run against McCain who is probably the most effective nominee the Republicans have had since Reagan. McCain is no fool and he is still seen as a maverick and a war hero by voters in both the Republican and Democratic Party. He is a formidable candidate and Obama is completely unprepared for what the GOP and McCain has in store for him this fall.

You idiot. you don`t even know the difference between the he Vietnamese and the Vietcong.

The Vietcong was closely allied with the government of North Vietnam. The group was formed in the 1950s by former members of the Vietminh acting on orders from Hanoi. Many of its core members were “regroupees,” southern communists who had resettled in the North after the Geneva Accord (1954). Hanoi gave the regroupees military training and sent them back to the South along the Hochiminh Trail in the late 1950s and early 1960s. The Vietcong’s best-known action was the Tet Offensive, a massive assault on more than 100 South Vietnamese urban centers in 1968. The offensive riveted the attention of the world’s media for weeks, but also overextended the Viet Cong. Later communist offensives were conducted primarily by the North Vietnamese army. The group was dissolved in 1976 when North and South Vietnam were officially unified under a communist government.

McCAIN WAS SHOT DOWN OVER NORTH VIETNAM. He would have never even seen the VC. With bots like you, no wonder Barky is losing.

All one has to do is look at the polls and talk to the mature people that voted for Obama in the primary.

Most of the mature/intelligent people who voted for Obama are now taking the time to look into who Obama really is.
I have over a dozen friends where were die-heart Obama supporters until various stages in the primary and in the last few months.
Obama has been digging his own grave in his reactions and interactions during the last several months.
Two of my friends were looking forward to seeing Obama redeem himself in town hall meetings with McCain. Tthey are now voting McCain due to that and several other flip flops of his.
Obama is going slowly down the tubes, and for that I am VERY VERY Glad.

I was having a going away to college party at my house lastnight. Several of my friends who were sitting on the fence for BO were watching the forum downstairs. I went upstairs to get a beverage and when I came back down they had turned the tv off. I asked why they turned it off. It was right after the “paygrade” comment. Still ROFLMAO…

Why couldn’t there have been a debate/forum like this one several months ago.. Why

      • IndianaDem

You really don’t understand the paygrade comment, do you?

        That’s above my pay-grade.

        Allow me to translate:

Only God knows when a human soul becomes present in an embryo. I am unqualified to say.

Take that as deliberate equivocation, or take it as one human being’s honest admission that he doesn’t know and doesn’t presume to pretend he does.

John McCain assumes that happens at the moment of conception. When sperm meets egg. A single, fertilized undivided cell has the same legal status as any child.

Does that sound logical to you? Does that statement not carry some very far-reaching legal implications?

I liked Obama’s answer. I thought it was honest.

        • ummm

          They don’t do honest here.

        • mimi

It was a delivered in a snarky way.

          Pay grade? WTF???

An honest answer would have been straightforward without the need for a cutesy/clever phrase or expression. This is a deep philosophical question. Why dodge the depth of reality with regard to it.

He should have simply said, I don’t know. It’s a question that perhaps only God can answer and it’s not for me presume that I could answer such a question.

0bama doesn’t know what plain talk is. It’s a big problem for him which is why people jumped on it. His comment may be one that the text message set think is good, but for most of us it sound like a comment made in a school cafteria table.

          That’s Middle School, btw.

          • candymarl

Also a pay grade refers to an earthly job status. If you’re the President of the US you have reached the highest federal pay grade.

Last time I looked God didn’t have a pay grade.

When you are talking to evangelicals, life starts at conception. Stabbing the infant who survives an abortion in the head with a pair of scissors or leaving them in a linen closet to suffocate is the wrong answer for sure. The Dems were so stupid to think Obama would bring the Christian right all the way over to the hard line left.

          • Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose?

When you are talking to evangelicals, life starts at conception

EXACTLY. No room for nuance. No need to pass the buck to God, because evangelicals believe that God speaks to them through the Bible. In this case, specifically, the Ten Commandments.

            “Thou shalt not kill”

If SoeBama really had made the commitment to Christ that he claims, he would know this. There’s no room for equivocation as far as Rick Warren’s audience was concerned.

That’s why his comment sunk like a lead balloon.

        • elise

You know Obama agreed to appear at that forum and discuss those issues? Do you have a clue why he agreed? Because he has turned his back on people who might agree with his position in favor of begging for votes from those who will never agree with the Democratic platform and he tried to give a cute answer rather than say exactly where he stands. Just as he has done with every other issue. IndianaDem, you need to spend more time asking the Democratic Party in Indiana why it took eight hours to count votes in a small town like Gary and only two hours for NY City to count their votes. You should be asking Mayor Rudy Clay Spacer what a “slow vote” is and while you’re at it, you can ask him why he is driving around town in a Hummer paid for by the town (including gas). When you have all that figured out, maybe you can ask Sen. Evan Bayh why he said a recount of the votes in that little town would yield different results. Then come back here and explain why you are supporting someone who has so little respect for the Constitution of this country he is willing to vote for the FISA Protect American Act which will allow him access to everything you write here and everything you say on your telephone without a search warrant.

  • counthevotesnow

there was a Politico post earlier that the McCain camp called Andrea Mitchell out for suggesting that he got the questions fed to him early.

It’s amazing the press takes every cue from the obamabots who believe such things, and yet the same asinine press can’t even check in on speculations about Obama’s birthplace, birth certificate, and citizenship.

Plus, how ageist are these speculations from the press and the Obots? – if McCain were a younger man who answered questions as quickly and sharply, there would be no issue about whether he got the questions given to him early.

    • candymarl

Here we go. Obama doesn’t do well in a debate and it’s McCain’s fault because he cheated.

your attitude is exactly why we don’t get over it.

Oh, and then, go to your local Capitol Hill into the gay community and call everyone evil queers about 100 times, and then tell them to get over it. See if they will!

Women were not harrassed and abused when Hillary lost.

If they felt that way, it’s because they are projecting their victimization onto the primary.

There’s a mydd diary suggesting that Obama’s campaign spent $57 million, while McCain’s campaign spent $33 million in July, with RNC and DNC both spending equal amounts.

If true, that’s terrible news for us, because it suggests that even if we can massively outspend McCain, we’re still falling behind.

For all the money spent in July, there is no evidence that it had much benefit for Obama.

There’s not much reason to suppose that Obama will end up with a gigantic $$ advantage – maybe 10 or 20 million, give or take a few million.

So, if the extra millions aren’t keeping Obama in the lead, I wonder how the hell are we going to rebuild the lead?

I want some good news. Can anybody cheer me up?

What the heck is going to turn the situation around?

The DNC Convention? Ohmygosh – it looks like an exercise in futility, with all kinds of mind games being played by the PUMAs.

I don’t see the convention helping us much at all.

The VP? Who the heck is going to give Obama a boost? To me, it looks like Hillary is the only one who can get him out of the jam that she created, but he ain’t gonna pick Hillary, so the PUMAs are going to wreak their revenge.

This is not looking good. The way things are going, I would not be surprised to see McCain win the election by an electoral landslide.

I’m sure Obama and his family needed a vacation, but it was during his vacation that the poll numbers really started to tank.

            • IndianaDem

Where do you get “falling behind”? Weeks of negative campaign ads and McCain is still a few points behind in most of the national polls. He’s only managed to close the gap some.

The list of red/blue battleground states has grown much longer. Even traditional republican states can’t be taken for granted. Obama is focusing on them.

The Obama campaign hasn’t even laid into McCain yet. I’m thinking they probably will, since McCain has already set a negative tone. They’re choosing their moment.

Forget the congressional polls. The republicans are apparently riding with General Custer.

I really miss Hillary, and hope the SD’s wake up and do the right thing for America, and the World.

    • Hope Floats

I love this article from the LA Times about how T. Boone Pickens stands to benefit from his campaign with and how his proposal could do more damage than good to US energy security.

      http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oew-luft6-2008aug06,0,3336586.story

There is nothing wrong with wind power. On the contrary, it is one of the cheapest ways to generate renewable power. But since only 2% of U.S. electricity is generated from oil, wind power (as well as nuclear power, solar energy and other renewable power sources often touted by politicians and pundits) would do nothing to reduce U.S. oil dependence unless we start using electricity to power our vehicles.

Pickens’ assertion that increased use of wind power would displace natural gas is based on wishful thinking. Our energy system is not a Lego game — one piece can’t replace another at whim. Even if 78 other billionaires were willing to follow Pickens’ footsteps and build a 4,000-megawatt wind farm — that’s the number needed to displace the current electricity production from natural gas — there’s no way to guarantee that natural gas would be the only energy source that would be displaced by all those turbines. Why not coal, or solar?

Furthermore, implementation of the Pickens plan might actually tie more natural gas to the power sector. Wind is an intermittent source of power — the wind doesn’t blow 24 hours a day, seven days a week — and until and unless our electricity grid has sufficient power storage capacity, utilities counting on wind need to have backup power plants that can be powered up to fill in the gaps when the wind does not blow. This back-up power is today generally provided with natural gas.

But this is the real standout in the article:

A shift to natural gas could even weaken U.S. national security: More than 60% of the world’s reserves are concentrated in five countries — Russia, Iran, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — countries that are already engaged in discussions on the establishment of an OPEC-like natural-gas cartel.

      • IndianaDem

…unless we start using electricity to power our vehicles.

That’s the place where the LA article falls apart, because that’s exactly what we’re probably going to do. The intermittance problem has been solved, for both wind power and solar power:

        http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/story?id=53214

This is some very new news, that hasn’t hit the mainstream media yet.

The other big news is compressed air storage of electrical energy, with solar and wind sources for the electrical power. Compressed air automobiles are going into production in the United States in 2010:

        http://www.gizmag.com/compressed-air-car-set-for-us-launch-in-2010/8896/

That hasn’t hit the main stream media because it scares the crap out of Detroit and the oil industry. Ultimately, though, they won’t be able to kill it.

The T. Boone Pickens plan fits both new technologies like a hand in a glove.

        T. Boone Pickens is a good candidate for Obama’s alternative energy crash program czar.

        • Mr.Murder

Yeah, T.Boone is really going to look good there with “the ‘next’ JFK.”

          • IndianaDem

It sometimes seems like the level of negativity around here toward any suggestion that positive change is both desirable and possible goes right off the chart.

I’ve been seeing some interesting patterns emerging over the past couple of months. Dislike for Obama, for example, has revealed itself to be part of a larger picture. There’s also contempt expressed for Al Gore, John Kerry, liberal sensibilites, and the democratic party in general.

There’s been a lot of pro-offshore drilling talk, despite a consensus among experts that it would provide no price relief for years, if at all.

Suddenly Iraq–one of the biggest democratic issues–is no longer a topic. The idea is being pushed that yes, the surge is working. Forget that it’s working because all of the waring ethnic factions have consolidated their holdings into armed, segregated areas, and the U.S. military has been turned into a billion-dollar-a-month police force, paid for with rapidly escalating loans taken out in the name of the U.S. taxpayer.

            Energy conservation is ridiculed.

McCain talks alternative energy, but he proposes token projects while he pushes the interests of big oil. Seriously meaningful alternative energy proposals by Obama are ridiculed. (Witness the top post in this thread.)

Global warming, which neoconservatives have denied for years while working hard to suppress all evidence, isn’t even a topic of discussion, even though serious alternative energy incentives represent the obvious solution to that problem as well.

American militarism toward Russia–a hallmark of traditional republican policy–is now pure patriotism around here. There’s only one right view to the Georgia/Russia situation, and John McCain and company have it.

The right to choose issue is no longer an issue. Mention an obvious tendency away from free individual reproductive choices, and you’re playing the fear card.

In short, it looks more and more to me like the anti-Obama movement is only a thin cover for a pro-republican third column action. There are quite a few die-hard, sincere Hillary Clinton supporters, but in the main that sentiment has also been skillfully appropriated and turned to serve a pro-republican agenda.

Of course, if you point any of that out, you’re a mindless, unthinking Obama troll, Obamabot, or whatever. Your intelligence, experience, and patriotism are all automatically written off.

That’s pretty much how I’m currently sizing things up.

  • kinthenorthwest

I believe that most of the reason McCain did so very well was due to his Town Hall meetings.
Yes, Obama has been doing some question and answer sessions, but not 1/2 as many as McCain.
Like I read someplace else, Obama needs to start answering more questions, instead of just doing speeches from a teleprompter.
The other reason I think that McCain did better was that McCain believes in what he is saying and is more ingrained in what he has to say.
Obama on the other hand has only had a few weeks of learning about his new stance. I think if you look at a few of his newer revised stances you will see that they came across with a lot of uhs and hmmms in his answers.

    • IndianaDem

I suppose John McCain has 26 years of bamboozlement under his belt. It only stands to reason he’s pretty good at it by now. He can play to an evangelical audience as effectively as a crowd of boozed-up bikers at Sturgis.

Anybody who watched the faith forum, never mind your positions, but anyone, anyone who watched and claims that Obama did well and McCain didn’t is an idiot and can not be trusted to cross the street, never mind operate heavy machinery.

      Obama tanked.

McCain was spectacularly on point and in charge.

If anybody came away from that not knowing which of those two is qualified, experienced, measured, and ready to be president, they are seriously in denial.

McCain Whiped the floor with Mr Pay Grade. It was a humiliating display of incompetance, obfuscation and pandering and lies from the man who voted against the war when he wasn’t even in the US senate to vote against it.

I believe in change because change is diferent and its not like the past which is not the future and and i believe in the future because the future is coming and the past is past and today is the prelude to tomorrow which comes after yesterday. I belive in hope because hope is hopeful. And Change can bring hope because without change there is not hope that change will change things and the future wont come if we refuse to let go of the past because then the past becomes the present and the future becomes the future and not today and today is not tomorrow and thats why Obama is the future because there is no past with him only the future.

  • Experience won over Celebrity

Barack Obama told black fathers during his many Preacher-in Chief sessions that their responsibility does not stop at conception. But Obama in his pandering mode at Saddleback church could not answer the question: WHEN DOES A BABY GETS HUMAN RIGHTS. To quote Barack Obama, “Answering that question with specificity is above my pay grade?” I am prochoice. But Barack Obama just did not answer the abortion question. I am sure while John Mccain beliefs are prolife, he will not do anything to overturn Roe V Wade because it takes more than just a pro life president to overturn that statute. All states would have to put it on a ballot.

Obama wants to appear centrist and is ashamed to admit he is a liberal. I wish he would just answer the darn questions and stop trying to be love by everybody. JM was very clear with his views and beliefs, That is what I am looking for. Now I know why Obama shifts on us on major issues. I have no clue to Barack Obama core beliefs.

The answer is in the form of a question: If a mugger beats an eight month pregnant woman and as a result of the beating the baby dies, can the mugger be prosecuted for murder, or manslaughter?

    • IndianaDem

Yes, absolutely. Can be and should be, and I believe Barack Obama and the vast majority of his supporters would be in total agreement.

As a matter of fact, I believe such a person should be subject to prosecution for murder or manslaughter if an attack results in the loss of a fetus at any stage of pregnancy.

I don’t find this in any way inconsistent with my support of a woman’s absolute right to choose during her first trimester. I don’t know if a fetus is a child at that point, but until a fetus actually is, the rights of the potential child are vested in the mother. A doctor facilitating a woman’s choice at that stage is not the same as a violent criminal depriving her of that choice.

But BHO is still unqualified to be Prez.

There. See, one does not have to toe the far left line to be a Dem.

It would behoove you guys to lighten up and stop demanding complete and total capitulation to all of the Dem policies.

Personal spiritual beliefs should be respected on both sides of the specgrum; otherwise you alienate a large part of the Dem voting bloc.

  • DancingOpossum

See, if Obama were a real leader and/or truly supported a pro-choice position, he would have said something like “I don’t know the answer to that, and people disagree on it, but the bottom line is, the decision to end an abortion should be the woman’s, period.

Yeah. It would have taken huge political courage, but THAT is the correct answer. And I can easily picture any other principled Democrat delivering it. Even that wimp Kerry stood firm on the abortion issue. So did Dean when he was campaigning and was asked about it. Why can’t Obama?

Of course, nobody could top that racist SOB Bill Clinton, who chose the anniversary of Roe v. Wade (a day when Reagan and Bush I always delivered a message of encouragement to the anti-choice gang) to announce that he had repealed the abortion gag order. In your face!! Wow!

    I miss real leadership.

  • DancingOpossum

“decision to end a pregnancy” or “decision to choose an abortion.” ACK!

  • DancingOpossum

It would behoove you guys to lighten up and stop demanding complete and total capitulation to all of the Dem policies.

Uh, a token nod would be nice. Obama doesn’t even deliver that. (Nor does our Dem congress.) There is a reason (or used to be) that we have two political parties. One is supposed to be ppro-choice and one is supposed to be pro-life. And there are a bunch of other differences that are fundamental to both parties. Respecting someone else’s viewpoint does not mean adopting it as your own.

  • An embarrassed woman

As an educated, hardworking, mother, and wife, I am saddened by all of the hateful, racist, mean, and unnecessary comments that are being displayed in this blog. In the beginning of this race, I was proud that we have finally accomplished one of the goals that all Americans can be proud of. We had a strong woman and an African American running for President. A First, and historical event that will go down in history.
As a TRUE Democrate, I didn’t care who won the nomination, I will cast my vote as a Democrate regardless. However, I am concerned about the message that some Hillary supporters (PUMA, included), and others are making this harder than it has to be.

There is no one man or woman who has all of the qualifications to be President.
There is no man or woman who can agree with all Americans views.
There is no man or woman who has all of the answers.

I believe that there were some sexist statements that were made by some people in the media and on the Internet. I also believe that race has and always will be present in America, if it wasn’t it wouldn’t be an issue ( we wouldn’t be talking about it.)

I consider myself a lady first and foremost, my actions and my words define who I am as a woman and as a person. I might not agree with policies, but tearing someone down with negative and hateful words only explains the kind of person you are.

As far as Obama, I don’t think I have heard him say anything negative about Hillary personally, maybe regarding her policies. If you clearly think about it, the were not many differences between the two.

I suppose, I am more concerned with the message that we are sending the children we are raising. The anger, hatred, and negativity are not helping our children and how they will treat one another.
Calling ourselves Christians in the same breathe and tearing down a child of God is not the answer.

If you don’t agree with Obama’s policies, fine.
If you won’t vote for Obama, fine.
I have worked, played sports, and is married to a man and what I have learned when you play any game with men:
    you play hard
    play fair
    never cry
and show sportsmanship- if you loose.

I have heard some people say, the friction that some of the HIllary supporters are causing is the reason why some men, don’t like to play with woman.
Way to go ladies. The ceiling that all of the Hillary supports cracked. Let’s pray that it stays that way!
    Think about it!!

Think about this- The feelings that you feel right now, felling like no one is listening, you feel like you don’t have a voice. There are many minorities that feel that way everyday of their lives for centuries.
It’s not a good feeling when your voice is not heard, is it? Welcome.

      Obama’s words on Hillary:

      “Likeable enough”

      “Polarizing”

Cut the crap and open your ears to reality and come to realize that the one who seeks to be POTUS is nothing more than a useless street thug in a suit incapbable to do an ounce of work and uses his skin color to advance himself.

MLK said to not judge by the color of ones skin but the content of his character, and Obama has no character, just pathological lies!

    • IndianaDem

Yes Ma’am! I’m in agreement with your observations.

  • DAB

I do believe that the Saddleback forum will in retrospect be seen as a turning point in this race because it gave many more information about McCain and showcased him as the feisty and articulate dude that he is. So much for that old, tired man meme. Obama looked like the old one this time.

    • Ferdberfle

Clearly the Junior Senator from Illinois, while trying to sound nuanced and thoughtful, only came across as weak and inarticulate. He appeared to be searching for the teleprompter the entire time. Or maybe he was just channeling his other personalities for help.

  • larryfan

obuma lied about the ethics reform….he never went through with his promise to Mccain,

for him to mention this as his moment of working bipartisian is a hoax, i wish more people had caught this total lie

How many advisers does Obama keep? And, not one of them could tell him that scientifically human life beings at conception, when the uninterrupted development of the embryo leads to the birth of a child.

Of course, Mr. Intelligence (Obama) could not have researched this himself? He doesn’t get paid enough?

I have an explanation for his much stuttering. He has lied so much, so many times, that his literally has to tip-toe in his mind through his myriad of lies AND also think about his pro-abortion campaign contributors and what they would think.

Either that or he’s on drugs.

Barack Obama is the worst-ever candidate for the Democrat nomination.

Down with Barack Obama. Bury Barry. And, Long live the United States of America!

    • IndianaDem

Human life doesn’t scientifically begin at conception. Science would probably suggest that human life begins with the commencement of brain activity. The first measurable EEG brain activity begins around the 12th week. I become increasingly uncomfortable with the moral implications of abortion from that point forward. Somewhere around then I believe the child begins to have legal rights competing with the mother’s right to choose. Which, of course, is only one person’s opinion.

  • Sassy

    Good post, Larry.
I am puzzled that the “O” even considered courting the evangelical vote.
The pay grade remark was right on the mark though…remember all his “present” votes?

  • Beckley

If the question of when life begins is “above the pay grade” for Obama and many others (see today’s Eleanor Clift column in Newsweek), then how can they support abortion rights with no qualms? Since, by their own admission, they don’t know when life begins. What if they are wrong? “Shit, you mean we’ve been taking innocent life all this time?” I see an intellectual dishonesty in the position, is all. Obama would not even protect infants who mistakenly survive abortion.

Pro-lifers take literally certain passages in the Bible. Psalm 139, “You knit me together in my mother’s womb,” John the Baptist “leaping for joy in his mother’s womb”, for example.

I would like pro-choicers to admit that they, too, are acting on faith. No one knows for sure when human life begins.

  • Mr.Murder

Of life begins at conception then certainly the GOP would waive the liability cap they placed on lawsuits?

Of course, under Equal Protection consideration of the 14th Amendment that would make all liability caps illegal.

So the GOP puts the little babies’ well being up for sale to the God of Mammon.

  • Pete D.

It does not matter what your opinion is on when human rights begin, no matter what you think you have to agree that Obama’s position is not logically consistent. Here is the position he espoused:

    1) I don’t know when a fetus should have human rights.
    2) I am pro-choice, therefore fetuses have no human rights.

He is trying to have it both ways. You cannot simultaneously say that you are unsure when a fetus has rights and then say they can be aborted at will. If you believe in pro-choice you *must* perforce believe that fetuses have no human rights. If you believe fetuses *might* have human rights, you cannot be pro-choice, because in that case you *might* be killing 40 million people.

Sounds more like a typical politician than an agent of change.

So if to if your daughter gets raped, some Falwell fan at the drugstore should be able to make her have the living zygote that could be rejected from the womb with the simple use of a morning after pill?

Its human rights have already begun according to you.

That would mean outlawing all birth control pills too. Perhaps you would be willing to submit your medical history and have your family pass inspection or face attempted murder and conspiring to murder, since it takes two to tango….
Can we make your daughter fill out a form and submit to physical exam to prove she needs the medicine?

Please, inform of the witch trial expert, errrr doctor she should have to get approval to make decisions regarding her own body.

If she floats when waterboard her, she’s a witch….

Unfortunately, this video does not continue from “I didn’t focus on other people…I focused on myself…” utterance from Obama. What’s missing is a classic exchange between Warren and Obama.

When Obama me-anders on and on and on endlessly answering Warren’s question on “personal failings”…Rev. Warren cut him off. It’s a classic instant “blessing” for the McCain camp to be superimposed on Barry’s “Britney Moment” concept ads.

Barack: “I abused drugs, alcohol…I was interested in ME…and then Barack had his epiphany as “I grew up and I discovered that it really wasn’t about ME and I…” and here Warren bluntly cuts BHO’s me-andering off with:

    “I like that…not about you…”

And the audience erupts into spontaneous applause for Warren’s sudden wit awakening Obama from his self-confessed “self-obsession” lethargy in motion!

A classic moment that I have yet to see stand alone on video. It will be engraved in the history books of political narcissistic sins. Not to mention Warren’s truly charitable, Christian act of having saved the poor audience from having to listen to yet another torturous lecture on Obama’s self-centred obsessions which, unhappily, continue to plague less Christian audiences to this very day!

Now we know why Hillary alays got the first hard answer, while Obama used to look toward her for a response to clue in before he formulatd his own. He covered up his lack of experience, specificity on issues, and confidence with meandering incompetence camouflaged as “nuisanced introspection and thoughtfulness”.

Ah, how we miss Hillary’s succinct intelligence, passion and preparedness on the trail.

But I guess it’s “above my pay grade” to comment on the DNC’s unforgivable political sins, now, ain’t it?!…

Larry’s ending is a true classic!

Please make sure all 70,000 Obama fans get to respond to Larry’s question (minus “Jesus”) preferably via text messaging at the Convention:

“And who would you rather consult with on making America better? General David Patraeus and Ebay founder Meg Whitman, or Michelle Obama and Granny Dunham?”

    “Jesus!!”

    Amen.
