A Nut By Any Other Name…

Is still a nut. You may have heard that ACORN, the group which has received millions of taxpayer dollars, and has misused millions of taxpayer dollars, is restructuring. Along with that comes a name change, to COI (Community Organizations International). I wonder what THAT means (the International part). I shudder to think. Here is the reason for the change:

The embattled liberal group ACORN is in the process of dissolving its national structure, with state and local-chapters splitting off from the underfunded, controversial national group, an official close to the group confirmed.

“ACORN has dissolved as a national structure of state organizations,” said a senior official close to the group, who declined to be identified by name because of the fierce conservative attacks on the group that began when a conservative filmmaker caught some staffers of its tax advisory arms on tape appearing to offer advice on incorporating a prostitution business.

Ah, yes – this is all the fault of that pesky James O’Keefe and those mean Republicans. It has absolutely ZIP to do with ACORN being under investigation in at least 14 states for voter registration fraud, and is under federal indictment in Nevada, or their participation in the mortgage lending crisis, or anything like that.

The article referenced above also has this Update:

A person familiar with the New York reorganization said the new group has a new board, including some relative outsiders, like an official at the union Workers United, Wilfredo Larancuent, as well as most of the old leadership.

But the impact appears to be minimal.

“It’s not like this is some kind of hostile thing,” said the New York source. “This is what Fox has produced. National Acorn and Bertha Lewis are continuing doing their thing, but the New York flagship has been forced into this new organization.”

“As far as the work in the communities and policy campaigns, no one will notice the difference,” the source said. “It’s people who still believe in their basic mission of fighting for poor people.”

ALSO: National ACORN says it continues to exist, despite the departure of state chapters, including also California’s, which departed under similar terms last month.

Yes, yes, it is clear – this has nothing to do with voter registration fraud, voter fraud, bad mortgages, or the fact that this is SUPPOSED to be a non-partisan organization that is working primarily to hep Democrats, including Obama, elected to office. Nope – it’s all because Fox News and James O’Keefe are mean to them. I got it.

Do they really think we are so stupid that we are not going to KNOW they are the same group as before? Hey, we’re not in Congress or anything – we aren’t THAT easily duped. I’m pretty sure we can keep up.

But guess who apparently cannot? Oh, yes indeedy – President Obama. Remember this little clip from his interview with George Stephanopoulos?

Again, do these politicians really NOT know we have VIDEOTAPE??? Holy moley, Obama, you are way too young to be that forgetful. Oh, wait – that’s not forgetfulness, that’s flat out lying. No doubt, once ACORN has finished changing its name and banners, he’s going to claim he has NO idea who or what that organization is.

Hey, here’s a fun little contest we can have. “Liar, liar, pants on fire!” is a bit dated as an expression, and we so need a new one for Obama and the numerous whoppers he lets fly (not to mention most politicians). What pithy saying can you craft that about Obama and his numerous lies? This should be fun. Oh, and prize ideas, too, would be welcome. Have at it!

    I also post on a site populated by commenters decidedly fixed on the ‘right.’  (“We are the world…”)  Not surprisingly, notwithstanding my disdain for all things Obama, my expressed support for HRC has made me a target.  Well, after I posted my homage to Howard Zinn, with a twist (http://jbjd.wordpress.com/2010/02/22/guess-whom-howard-zinn-called-his-star-pupil-jbjd/); this comment was left on that other blog, by one of my more persistent tormenters.

    What’s important is that the organization is savvy and relentless and knows the natural process of death and resurrection.

    In the Fall the ACORN falls to the ground and is trampled by the beast of the land. In Winter it finds itself latent with life and self-reflecting finds its roots, origin and meaning within itself. In Spring, with a little bit of moisture and warmth from the sun the ACORN returns to life or resurrects. A new tree grows with a new personality and purpose.

    Obama will be reelected in 2012 and win with 53 percent of the vote.

    Karl Rove fired two U.S attornerys (part of Bush Attorneys firing scandal) because they had not found any actual electoral fraud by ACORN and would not play politics with the issue.

    So a few lazy employees signed up mickey mouse to vote so they could get paid without doing the work. There is no evidence that there was any actual “voter” fraud. A big difference.

    Acorn does a lot of good work for a lot of people in poverty in this country. They are a commendable organization with a long track record of helping the unfortunate. Sorry if conservatives do not want to see poor people registered to vote.

    And just because some jackass dress-up like a pimp and gets some employee to talk about prostitution means absolutely nothing. His heavily edited selective videos proved absolutely nothing about Acorn.

    O’Keefe should go to jail for being an asshole. And maybe he will.

    I hope Acorn wins their lawsuit against congress and their funding is re-instated. It was a travesity that their funding was pulled without due process based on some idiot in a pimp suit. In fact, the court already ruled that Acorn was unfairly singled out.

    I am not sure what kind of Reverend you are Amy, but you are one that obviously does not care for the unfortunate in this country.

    Acorn’s real crime is empowering the power. ACORN helps the poor become political and economic players. That’s why the money powers unleashed right-wing politics to go after ACORN with a blood lust.

    As for your video proof, completed BS, proof of what exactly?

    In what it calls a “fundamental transformation” of its business, ABC News plans to cut about 20 percent of its workforce — or around 300 people — through buyouts or layoffs, the New York Post reported.
    According to a memo sent to staffers late yesterday afternoon, the repositioning of ABC News will have six components, including combining the weekday and weekend operations of “Good Morning America<img style=”border: 0pt none; margin: 0pt; padding: 0pt; display: inline ! important; height: 10px; width: 10px; position: relative; top: 1px; left: 1px; float: none;” src=”http://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif”/>” and “World News” and “eliminating redundancies wherever possible.”
    “All of us are good reporters,” ABC News President David Westin wrote in the missive. “We can see that our entire society is in the middle of a revolution — a revolution in the ways that people get their news and information. We can have great success in the new world, but only if we embrace what is new, rather than being overwhelmed by it.”
    In an interview with The Post, Westin declined to specify how many workers would be let go, saying only that this round of cuts “will be bigger than any we’ve ever done since I’ve been here.”
    The last significant round of layoffs to hit the division occurred about 10 years ago, when roughly 130 workers were axed. A source familiar with the situation said the upcoming layoffs would be at least twice that number, amounting to about 20 percent of the 1,500 workers at ABC News.
    Disney, which owns ABC, doesn’t break out financial figures for ABC News. But the source said the division was hit hard financially last year, and managed to only be “marginally profitable.”

    Secondly, you link, as your proof that Acorn is under investigation for mortgage fraud in Nevada, yourself. What?

    After a quick search I see absolutely no evidence that Acorn is under investigation for mortgage fraud in Nevada. Sure the conservatives in Nevada have charged Acorn for voter registration fraud, but that is not mortgage fraud and not vote fraud. They are not claiming that anyone actually voted fraudulently, they are just claiming that some Acorn employees signed up false names to vote. No one actually voted fraudulently.

    That is hardly an indictment of the entire organization because of a few lazy employees signed up mickey mouse to vote.

    So, ACORN is now trying to be COI?  HA!  Don’ worry, we now know what ANY organizing effort means.  And whether it’s “organizing” with a Union (like SEIU, Andy Stern and ACORN brother Radke) or “organizing” with “communities”, the flavor is all the same as we have seen.

    No wonder SEIU caved and endorsed Barry in the primary even though Hillary had the record for accomplishments for the working persons.

    We can see that our entire society is in the middle of a revolution — a revolution in the ways that people get their news and information. - Yes, it’s called the Internet. Traditional media helped the Internet become the source for news by refusing to report on real news. People want to know. They don’t need network news anymore to do that. They are dinosaurs. Can they compete with Google? I really doubt it. Not on their own. Google has a huge head start on these guys. I almost expect them now to cry to this administration now for help in leveling the competition for them. Pathetic.

    You are wrong. Look at the Italian disposition of the case against Google and you will find that SOCIALISM PLUS will dispense with freedom of expression and the agility of the Internet to keep us informed.

    Governments thorugh the agency of China are now limiting Internet access inside their territories. Iran, Venezuela, and many other governments are jumping on banning Google as such.

    Sooner than later we will have that here too.

    You are right. If there is no evidence that Mickey Mouse ever voted, then there was no actual vote fraud. In fact, it was Acorn themselves that was the victim as they paid several employees for not actually doing what they were paid to do.

    O’Keefe may go to jail for actually breaking the law. For entering a federal building and attempting to tamper with the telecommunications system under false pretenses. That is a serious felony. This jack ass deserves everything he gets.

    It will be a very good thing if Acorn reorganizes and comes back strong. They provide an important service to the poor of this country. They may even be able to force the govt to reinstate their funding, which they are just to do. They have been treated completely unfairly based on having done nothing wrong. They are just being trashed by conservatives like the people on NQ because you do not want the poor man to vote. Shame on you.

    Again Amy I challenge you to give us one example where Acorn has been charged with anything and actually been proven to have committed a crime. Conservatives have been attempting to nail Acorn for years and they have been unsuccessful so they result to cheap BS gotcha heavily edited videos that prove nothing. What about all the other videos of Acorn employees throwing OKeefe out of their offices? Why did Okeefe not show them?

    what proof do you have that Acorn has done anything wrong with regard to mortgage lending? complete BS.

    Yeah, we know all about the registration fraud? However, I do not think you understand the issue.

    Acorn is the victim regarding the registration fraud. They paid people to register voters and those people did not register real voters. They did not do the job they were paid to do. These people cheated Acorn. If these people did not register voters and registered mickey mouse instead that does Acorn absolutely no good. What good is it to Acorn to pay someone to register a fictious name that will never vote? 

    Those individuals that are being investigated are the individuals who perputrated the fraud against Acorn. Acorn itself has never been charged or found guilty of anything.

    There is also no evidence after extensive review and investigation that Acorn orchestrated anything or that any voters actually voted fraudulently. If you have some evidence I suggest you bring it to the authorities.

    So what is you point? exactly!

    I repeat:

    Acorn’s real crime is empowering the poor. ACORN helps the poor become political and economic players. That’s why the money powers unleashed right-wing politics to go after ACORN with a blood lust.  
    And misinformed people like you Amy are the tools. You and people like O’Keefe trash the downtroden in this society. You should be ashamed of yourself.

    Acorn will regroup and comeback strong. They represent millions of people in this country and will not give up that easy. These millions are not going away.

    I back up everything I do with reputable citations.  If you read my posts, you would know that I WORKED for ACORN, so don’t preach to me abt what they do and do not.  While they may help some people, the fact remains that they engage in a number of illicit activities, which are funded by OUR tax paying dollars.  If they want to exist solely on private donations, that’s one thing.  For us to be paying for an organization that engages in the kinds of behavior they do is just wrong.

    I am not the one who is “misinformed,” Guest – you are.  Ironic, too, that you make demeaning,  statements abt me in the hypocritical guise of “empowering the poor.”  Wow.  That’s some leap.
