Obama’s Gambits Aren’t Working

I get the reason that Obama held the health care summit on Thursday. You and I — we who follow the news closely — know that the entire reason that Obama has failed to get Obamacare passed is because of dissension among the Democrats in the House and Senate.

Obama is harping on Republicans because he is desperately trying to recast the “bad actors” in this soap opera as the Republicans instead of his fellow Democrats. He wants to take the onus off of Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid and their quarreling broods, and put the onus entirely on the GOP Congressional leadership.

We shall see if re-casting the role of the “villain” works for Obama.

In the meantime, Obama’s approval ratings are sinking. In its daily tracking poll, Rasmussen shows Obama with his lowest numbers yet, and Rasmussen finds that his sinking numbers are due to people’s disapproval of Obama’s obsession with his health care plan. Methinks the American people aren’t interested in who Obama is blaming for his failures, and wish their president were addressing the concerns they most care about: the economy, the deficit, and unemployment. Here are the numbers:

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Saturday shows that 22% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-three percent (43%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -21. That matches the lowest Approval Index rating yet recorded for President Obama.

The only other time the Approval Index was this low came in late December as the U.S. Senate prepared to approve its version of health care reform (see trends). Most voters continue to oppose the proposed health care plan. …

Read all at Rasmussen Reports.

You can view the daily graph of presidential approval ratings here.

Every point you cited, BH, plus trying to draw away attention from the Fannie Mae bailout dumped just before the weekend.  Then he will announce something to the effect, “after LISTENING, to every one at the summit and the people, I have concluded that it is best to start from scratch.”  He gets points for seeming to “listen” because he just can’t accept crashing into a brick wall.  Then every one will be talking about his decision to delay the hc, and not the Fannie Mae bailout.

Bronwyn’s Harbor: ” Methinks the American people aren’t interested in who Obama is blaming for his failures”

With the strongly approving numbers only 22% the pool of those willing to mindlessly support him keeps shrinking and what is more of a problem is, I suspect, the percent of the growing 43% that strongly disapprove who actually vote is quite high.

I think that Rahm’s trip to Congress is to give Reid and Pelosi a head’s up so they can all sing the same alleluia chorus:  ”He listens, he understands, he listens, Oh he is so great.”  He’ll announce his HC decision depending on the uproar over the Fannie Mae.  This is his stand-by issue to divert attention.

Obama is turning into Ahab and healthcare is his white whale.

A person who spent less than two years in the US senate without learning anything of the ways that it operates and in fact exhibited impatience and condescension at how it operates is now trying to lecture to his 100s of ex-colleagues some of whom have actually done some good work in that body instead of running away from it like he did. Add to that this person has no conviction nor courage to advance his compelling ideas because he has none. He is too lazy to do any workas he was when in  the senate. Contrast that to how Hillary spent her years in the senate.

I bet even the  Dem’s feel a bit befuddled when being lectured to by the likes of Deputy Press Secretary Bill Burton.

  • John of johnwsmart.com

I love the Ahab analogy. It’s like he has a compulsive disorder around this issue.
I do think he’s trying to re-write 2009 to favor him. But don’t think he cares about the Dems. He needs his failure to be placed somewhere else. Desperately. He can’t allow himself to fail like clinton did. His ego won’t allow it.

Also – for the record – I think he needs the $ for 2012. Insurers donated scads of money to him in 08. If he can’t deliver on a mandate (which he opposed while running but flipped almost as soon as he won indicating that he never really opposed one.) Wellpoint and the rest will dash to Romeny who succeeded in getting a mandate in Mass. HC reform that favors insurance companies is the reason he was brung to the party. He knows it.

  • Peggy Sue

Obviously. “what most voters want” is totally irrelevant to DC.  When they say they’re listening, they mean they’re listening to the voices inside their own heads [and those of their personal benefactors, the guys that brung 'em to the ball].

If anyone heard the post-Summit analyses it was all about who won the debate, who scored points, how many seats will be won or lost in November, did the President catch the momentum wave.

This is a spectator sport.  And we’re the spectators, cheering or jeering, depending on what team we’re on.  Meanwhile, there’s a big sucking sound out in the hinterlands, as the Billionaire Boy’s Club continues to drain the last coin from the national coffers.  People don’t have jobs?  Too bad.  People will get hurt?  Oh well. Guess we’ll have to raise those tax rates.  And maybe we’ll throw in an indicipherable HC package to cover our asses.

    It’s an absolute disgrace.

Back to the narcissist theme:  I remember the narcissist I knew for so many years.  A person could talk, talk, talk with him.  He would smile and not his head and act as if he understood and listened.  But if what you said did not jive with his own personal agenda and with his feeling of always being totally right and guiltless, there had been NO communication happening.  The only way I got rid of that narcissist in my life was to go through a messy divorce.  I fear our divorce from O is going to be even messier.

  • Docelder

I think that article is dead on right. It isn’t health that interests these guys, it is radical change. Remember Obama saying as much about the republican’s health care reform ideas. They don’t radically transform the system. This is very telling. Obama said just days before the election he was just days away from transforming America. Many of us have been saying this all along. The nation is being Cloward-Piven’ed. It is being broken for no other reason but to be able to be rebuilt. This never was looked at as seriously and as ominously as it is. This is just short of internal terrorism. Just short.

Mess doesn’t begin to describe it.  As any builder knows, you don’t start tearing things apart unless you know exactly how it was built. Although I think that in Obama’s case, he simply wants to bulldoze the whole American system so he can “rebuild.”  This is just not possible.  The only thing he will succeed in, is to really create a mess that requires an able, true uniter to rally the whole country to put things back together.  This creature puts all idiots to shame.

That is a good article. Right now the middle class is being bubblized as well. How many people now were trapped in houses that lost half their value? How many lost their retirements? How many are now jobless? Meanwhile bankers “too big to fail” continue to get the government welfare while regular people suffer. It all comes down to lobbyists. We regular people don’t have lobbyists to represent us. If we did, we might have a chance.

If being POTUS is akin to being a grandmaster playing multple games, then many a gambit is suspect when BO is pretending.

True, Iran’s economy is in difficult straits. But, says Mark Fowler, a former CIA officer who leads Booz Allen Hamilton’s Persia House research service, Iranian officials “are pretty well set up to weather sanctions, pretty good at working around them, and at smuggling. It’s a question of how much pain you can bear, and they can bear a lot.”
Sanctions would indeed worsen Iran’s economic problems, says Suzanne Maloney, an expert on Iran at the Brookings Institution, but “the difficulty is to connect the impact with a reversal of positions by Iranian authorities.” To the extent that sanctions target the Revolutionary Guards, Maloney said, their impact will be “much more powerful. But they won’t be a knockout punch.”

Given the current and the direction our ship of state is drifting; with it’s disabled captian at the helm, BO has some hard choices coming. Rearranging the deck chairs won’t help BO.

A majority of ALL Americans will be needed.  But a good leader will figure out a way to let every American have an opportunity to contribute to the solution, like an opportunity to earn a living, a system that rewards moral, ethical behavior instead of the likes of Goldman Sachs, AIG, SEIU, etc. I would ask for Divine Intervention to deal with Obama and his cohort.

Someone I know liken the Demorats and the Health Care Bill to somone who really needed a car.  They go out and pay tons of money for some  old clunker with no tires or engine and then say  ”hey at least I got me a car.” .  That is exactly what the Democrats are doing in regards to Health Care Reform.

  • sowsear

I don’t think he cares if it goes to the courts. He wants a bill passed that he can say he got passed. If it’s later found unconstitutional (which I doubt with the present court and/or one augumented with an obot or two in the near future). he can say it wasn’t his fault. By then he will be long gone with his lifetime perks and his first black president distinction.

I’ve been thinking that the tactic of “selling the Obama brand” could have an unexpected consequence -   a possible escape hatch for smart Democrats. Look at it this way, Obama did not identify as a Democrat. He was his own party. The lemmings in congress went along.

Now if some Democrats would show some spine, they could be the core of “Real Democrats” or “Reform Democrats.” The clever ones will either oppose Obama outright, or ride the thing out by hanging heavy.

Later they can say “Obama? I was never really on board with it.” It = Brand Obama.

The problem with a brand is that you have to constantly defend it. Some companies (J&J – Tylenol tampering disaster) know how to do this. Some (Toyota) don’t.

Law of unintended consequences, double-edged sword – pick your own explantion.

It is especially hard to sustain a brand over time. Amazingly, clever marketers can sustain a brand even when there is nothing there. But Obama is worse than nothing – he is poison.

CNN is reporting the replacement as follows:

“White House announces new social secretary”

Washington (CNN) – The White House announced a new social secretary Saturday, a day after confirming that Desiree Rogers planned to step down from the position.

Julianna Smoot, who is chief of staff for the office of U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk, will replace Rogers.

“Julianna shares our commitment to creating an inclusive, dynamic and culturally vibrant White House, and Michelle and I are pleased to have her join our team,” President Barack Obama said in a statement.

Rogers’ office came under scrutiny in recent months after a couple who lacked an invitation were allowed into Obama’s first state dinner.

“White House Taps Democratic Fundraiser as New Social Secretary

The White House has chosen Julianna Smoot, a prominent Democratic Party fundraiser, to replace Desiree Rogers as social secretary, Fox News has confirmed.

Rogers is stepping down next month in the wake of last year’s White House gate-crashing scandal that she was blamed for.

Smoot served as national finance director for Obama’s presidential campaign, helping raise $32.5 million during one quarter in 2007. She has also served as finance director for then-Senate Democratic leader Tom Daschle and John Edwards’ successful Senate bid in 1998.”

No, that would be her replacement as social secretary.

“But a good leader will figure out a way to let every American have an opportunity to contribute to the solution, like an opportunity to earn a living, a system that rewards moral, ethical behavior instead of the likes of Goldman Sachs, AIG, SEIU, etc.”

Ethical standards of conduct and morality are lost on politicians and corporate America, I’m afraid. I am hard presssed to find anyone who won’t cut some corner or bend or break any rule to get ahead. Such concerns must be taught early in life. Hell, we don’t even require philosophy in colleges and universities any longer.

Everyone concentrates on the problems we’re having in this country lately — illegal immigration, hurricane recovery, alligators attacking people in Florida …
     <img src=”http://f354.mail.yahoo.com/ya/download?mid=1%5f2637149%5fAG%2bzo0IAAWOcS4ktkAfg%2bkE%2bcgw&pid=2&fid=Inbox&inline=1″ border=”0″/>
     …… Not me — I concentrate on solutions for the problems — it’s a win-win situation.

     * Dig a moat the length of the Mexican border.
     * Send the dirt to New Orleans to raise the level of the levees.
     * Put the Florida alligators in the moat along the Mexican border.

Any other problems you would like for me to solve today? Yes !
     Think about this:
     1. Cows
     2. The Constitution
     3. The Ten Commandments

COWS  is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow..

THE CONSTITUTION  they keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ….. Why don’t we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we’re not using it anymore.

THE 10 COMMANDMENTS  the real reason that we can’t have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this — you cannot post ‘Thou Shalt Not Steal’ ‘Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery’ and ‘Thou Shall Not Lie’ in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians …. It creates a hostile work environment.

     See the 10 Commandments.

Hillary Clinton is a stupid moron. Everyone is South America is busy with the Chilean earthquake which is too much and here APPEARS HILLARY CLINTON who can’t make one simple right decision to reschedule her trip for 2020 and must waste those good people’s time with her stupid bla bla bla.

Obama please put some sense on Hillary and if you have to spank her do so, but tell her to cancel her trip and let those people have a more productive use of their time than to be bored to death with her lameness.

I just found this quote on election of US Presidents attributed to H.L. Mencken.
“the odds are on the man who is, intrinsically, the most devious and mediocre — the man who can most easily adeptly disperse the notion that his mind is a virtual vacuum.” (Blank Canvas)

“The Presidency tends, year by year, to go to such men. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart’s desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.”

Foget about Nostadamas. Mencken is top prognosticator.

Here is an interesting read on why Obama/Pelosi/Reid are going to try to cram Obamacare down our throats with a simple majority despite overwhelming public opposition.

“Today’s Democrats are controlled by the radical Left, and it is more important to them to execute the permanent transformation of American society than it is to win the upcoming election cycles. They have already factored in losing in November — even losing big.”

Valerie was Michele’s mentor before Barack knew M0.  She is a mother figure to both.  Valerie has had a lot to do with these two’s well developed superiority complexes that make them obnoxious.

This is the side of 0 we saw on Thurs that was infuriating to me, especially the part, “John, we are no longer campaigning.  The election is over.”  What the hell?!  What a dog.

Then if that wasn’t enough, today when he spoke about the earthquake in Chili, instead of saying, “The American people and I want to send our heartfelt sympathies to Chili”, he said, “Michele and I want to ……”    I know past POTUS involked their wives names at various times, but that was one of the most inappropriate times to do that I have ever witnessed.   I noticed that FoxNews took that part out.  How can the elite claim him??  The people serving him in the WH are more elite than he is.

That’s right.  He wants his picture beside Franklin Roosevelt as passing the most sweeping legislation in history.  That’s all he wants – except Mt. Rushmore would be nice, I’m sure he’s thinking.

He will be willing to go after the first term because after all he is a lazy bum.  He had no idea he would have to do much of anything after cheating his way to election.

Bulldoz and rebuild without ever having done that before in his life.  I have 0 trust in this man and pray someone can save us from this march toward total destruction.  It’s easy to see how all the talk of 2012 being catastrophic could be in the making.

  • AbigailAdams

It’s just possible that his backers’ overall plan has always been that he would create such havoc in only one term in order to bring in the closer, someone who is seen as the “real savior” whose star will seem so much brighter than bo’s did and whose timing will seem like a Godsend to our economic woes.  I know that sounds overly dramatic, but nothing can be ruled out with this government and these parties.  bo’s stark abuse of the office he holds, his indifference (and that of his advisors) to the historic importance of the presidency and how that very office makes the U.S. unique among governments, will have us all clamoring for the first person who will appear to respect it and all Americans.  Whoever that is will require our best scrutiny.

  • Whizzbang

“World and U.S. History are no longer required subjects in the grades or High School

From my cursory investigation using Google, that appears to be untrue. The fact that the very first school I selected at random in fact did have the above subject as “core subjects” speaks volumes.

    From Wikipedia:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secondary_education_in_the_United_States#Basic_curricular_structure

“Required social science classes often include world history, US History, government, economics & accounting. Government and economics classes are sometimes combined as two semester courses”

Selecting an arbitrary public high school in an arbitrary state, I found the following:
    http://jville.k12.ar.us/HighSchool/StudentHandbook/hshb%202009-2010.pdf
    “History
      ½ Civics
      American History
      World History”

The above school is in Arkansas, and has 45.7 % of its pupils listed as “Economically Disadvantaged”
    http://www.usnews.com/listings/high-schools/arkansas/jessieville_high_school

Nah.  None of them is willing to exit the Washington scene just to preserve Barry’s place in history.  Power, money, parties and perks aren’t something pols give up voluntarily.  After all, what has Barry done for them?  So he campainged a little for them.  Big deal.  Anger at Reps was so strong they’d have been elected no matter who was at the top of the Dem ticket.  They don’t owe him a thing.

I love the way the MSM theme seems to be Obama “dominated the room”.  They also say Obama “refuted every point” but use no facts or figures to back that up. Hence, the lack of rebuttal to Ryan’s remarks.

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi urged her colleagues to back a major overhaul of U.S. health care even if it threatens their political careers, a call to arms that underscores the issue’s massive role in this election year.
Lawmakers sometimes must enact policies that, even if unpopular at the moment, will help the public, Pelosi said in an interview being broadcast Sunday the ABC News program “This Week.”

I suspect if the polls aren’t strongly in his favor in 2011, he won’t run again in 2012.  I really don’t think he could tolerate the failure of losing a re-election bid.  I seriously don’t think he’ll risk it.  He’ll probably claim his family wants him to step down.
