“Hillary Harridans”

Shorter Dahlia Lithwick: All you women out there who are still crowing on about sexism and the Clinton campaign are actually hurting women, since you’re just setting yourselves up for negative media coverage which, by the way, you totally deserve and for which the media are blameless. Comment away.

  • Alyssa

She must have been rejected at birth.

    • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

who the frig is that and who the frig gives a frig???

      pfffffffft

a bunch of no nothing no bodies

      • http://BHOtroll mary

        You’re right again!

I just read a phenomenal (pro-Puma?) column in the 21 Aug. Boston Herald by Margery Eagan!

“Obama’s Not Over the Hill Yet….still needs her…” by M. Eagan

An amazing confession by an ex-Obamabot (journalist Eagan) who now has some pretty decidedly shocking things to say about her ex-Sweetie. Seems that this Boston Herald reporter thinks that issues that count the most with voters are way above Sweetie’s Pay Grade!

Ah, can the harridan pumas (both male and female) say: We told You So! No, not yet. Wait till November when Sweetie will be running for cover from the shattered DNC’s ceiling’s explosion…the millions Hillary cracks…

Pumas, let ‘em hear you roar!

    • jes

Actually, she must have been dropped on her head at birth.

      • Alyssa

That could also explain her hostility toward any woman defending herself.

  • AF catfish

Disappointing, she is usually a pretty good writer.

    • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

I once felt that way about M Dowdeedoodoo

They may know how to string a sentence together in some bright witty form but if they are depending on that for their $$$ I’m sure they can be bought, swayed, screwed or threatened to say what will make their BOSS feel good! And even convince themselves that they feel that way too!

      The willing spread of ignorance

I will always fight against that. No matter who is doing it.

      Indeed

    • Katmoon

I just love how one woman’s perspective now represents all woman, good God, we aren’t joined at the hip, we are individuals. We have things like our own opinions, interests, and political views. Seriously it doesn’t get any more sexist than claiming something is harming women, because you have a differing opinion, and to call it “crowing” is a a way to minimize a voice of decention.

  • Andy

LOL at Dahlia; poor soul she must have a huge complex for being a woman. Women like Dahlia are the reason why sexisim is rampant: she seem to be the typical woman that laughs away at sexist jokes b/c she has the need to belong to the boys club. Poor weak soul.

Look around the country, an abundance you’ll find of

and might I add FUCK YOU DAHLIA LICKWICK

  • beverly leslie

Sounds like she needs her meds. Bwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa those clinton bitch’s aren’t falling in line, what shall we do? Bwwwaaaaaaaaabbbbwwwwwwaaaaaaabbwwwwaaaaa insult them more! Bwwwwwaaaaaaaaa bwwwwwwwwwwaaaaaaa, I’m a genius.

Who was it that said “there is a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women”.

    • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

      Geraldine?

      • Michelle

        Madeleine Albright

        • Anita

Well so Madeleine Albright could have added “there is a special place in hell for women who don’t support other women…who are pro-women rights”. No way I support a sexist or patriarchal women. And this dhalia_trash_sexist_repugn_retarded is absolutely clueless.

          • Ellen D.

Hey I wrote a screenplay on Emily Bronte’s Wuthering Heights and “ghostly Catherine Earnshaw” as “a bitter madwoman hellbent on revenge”? I don’t think so. This columnist just has a problem with strong women characters.

    • tzada

She must be Nance Poloseee sister?

    • Ms J of FL

that’s the Obama compaign strategy. categorize, insult, divide, intimidate, isolate, then expect ppl to support the candidate. reminiscent of junior h.s.

  • roseeriter

She’s obviously in love with her abuser. Why do victims stay with their abusers??

    • http://BHOtroll mary

      Roseeriter,

Women stay with their abusers…yes “The Stockholm Syncrome” where prisoners fell in love even with their jailers. Remember Pattie Hurst?

It’s above Sweetie’s pay grade, though, to express any opinion as he’s still looking hte medical encyclopaedias for “megalomania” and “narcissistic personality”. Not such a good speller the boy without a telempropter!

      • tzada

Yes, which may explain why some blacks turn to Islam, the religion in the main part of their capture’s. Did any one notice Kerry’s remark about BO being more able to deal with Arab Nations? He hem hawed around and said it was because BO was black, but I think he just almost stepped in it, him of the weasel thin face with pouffed up well sprayed helmet of hair.

  • ame

So does that mean everyone is suppose to fall in line and go along with the program?

  • Tom

So…you’re NOT a group of enraged, aggrieved conspiracy-mongers who are willing to vote against themselves in order to make a point? Did I miss something?

    • HARP

      Your brain ??

      • Hope Floats

Ignorance is bliss, and Tom’s the happiest idiot in the Obama bleachers.

    • tj

You obviously missed alot! You miss the point, you fail to understand what Obama means to women and you are so misguided by Obamas preachings that you refuse to see how women in general are being treated.

      • Tom

Stick to the subject. Dahlia is calling you out for being exactly what the supposedly sexist media believes you are. Deal with that and then we can talk about sexism in general society as a whole.

        • roseeriter

          Fuck off boybot.

        • CJ

Yeah rumpled hair, stains on the blouse and wide-eyed…I’ve been called out! Save it! I have heard this argument against women since I was born. Why are women always tied to insanity if they express an opinion? Where was the description of PUMA men in this article?

          • Anita

This is not for men! this is ONLY for dirty, repugnant, not docile and complaining women. Men are valious, women not (like in a lot of third world countries) Oh s*it I forgot it’s the same in whatever part of the world!

        • fif

We don’t give a damn what the media or anyone else “believe we are.” WE know who we are and what we are fighting for. We have done our research, studied our history, and know our rights. We don’t need your approval, and since you don’t “need” our votes (thanks to Donna B), it won’t be a problem right Tom?

        • beverly leslie

Tom we are not hurting ourselves, we are the ones we have been waiting for. STOP THE HATE tom!

        • Newly Independent

Stick to the subject. Dahlia is calling you out for being exactly what the supposedly sexist media believes you are. Deal with that and then we can talk about sexism in general society as a whole

F— you and the rest of the stupid Obamabots everywhere, Tom. (Especially the silly MSM – like the people give a s— what those peabrains think of Hillary supporters.)

Obama’s grossly underqualified for the Presidency. Plus he’s unprincipled scum. He’s not going to be the next President of the United States. Period.

(Unless, of course, he cheats his ass off and steals the election like he did the Democratic nomination.)

Go back to Jim Jones – er, Barack Obama, and tell him to stop sending paid bloggers to our sites harrassing people. It’s getting old.

        • Jane

So, what’s your point tj. So, we are exactly what the media says we are. So what?

        • Ms J of FL

WE can talk about sexism? who the hell are you? WE don’t need lessons from you, DILDO.

        • http://motorcityliberal.blogspot.com Motorcityliberal

Tommy boy all I heard from Obama supporters like Donna Brazile was that you don’t need Clinton supporters so why all of the sudden Obama’s media flunkies are caring about how female Clinton supporters look in the media?

I suspect the reason of this out burst of concern is that the hardest of the hardcore of the Obama fellowship saw the polls and he’s trending in some trouble waters and there’s enough pissed off Hillary supporters that will cost Obama the election.

        • FranSC

The subject IS a rigged primary, with the DNC and Dem party leadership covertly choosing a decidedly unqualified candidate, setting up his campaign for him, then rigging it to destroy and defeat the other better qualified candidate – who happened to be a woman! It is as much about the hijacking of the nominating process as it is about the woman.

As far as “hurting ourselves to prove a point” -that’s what all of the above counted on – that we could easily be swayed by the prospects of a right-wing supreme court that could undo things we helped legislate. We ARE sticking to the subject regardless of that. We will not be blackmailed into voting for the unqualified candidate.

        • Jillie

you presume that PUMAs are female. you presume that being attacked means being wrong. you presume we give a shit what you and the media thinks.

        • http://! Clinton Fan

Ok, Tommy boy….so if someone here calls you a retarded asshole who eats his own poop, and enough people chime in and agree with that person, that makes it true, eh? That’s what you’re saying…that if enough people, despite their agenda, say something, it magically becomes fact. Even if it’s bullshit and propaganda.

Wow, you Obots are something. So fearful. So anxious to follow the crowd, and so anxious for others to do so as well. You’re all like lobotomized border collies, frantically herding but with no sense of purpose.

Your fear is showing. As Buttcrack Dick says “Big Time…”

Be prepared for more anxiety…it’s a-coming….

    • vinnie

I’m voting against Barry Soetoro, does that answer your question?

How many times did Dahlia write to the DNC and Barry to ask them to stop the misogyny in the media? How many phone calls did she make to the msm? How many times did she hear Hillary supporters being called whores and the c-word? Barry and his supporters need to stop with the fuckin’ whinning.

    • fif

Democracy Tom. You missed the part about democracy.

      • Jim (Obama paid someone to impersonate me)

Tom thinks speaking out against misogyny is somehow bad for women. Nice Obamalogic there.

    • Newly Independent

      Did I miss something?

      Yes.

      Your brains.

  • Bugs Bunny

We are not hurting ourselves, we will hurt team obamprah because they stood complicent.
    That little fact stings.
Remember, we are the ones we’ve be waiting for after all.

    • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

How about we can’t vote for a FRAUD, who is not qualified to be POTUS. Having a (d) after your fake name doesn’t get my (i) vote.

  • btintaos

All of Dahlia’s ranting doesn’t change the fact that Hillary was the subject of blantantly sexist comments by the media. I can see that and I’m a man.

    • Tom

You didn’t read it, did you?

Clue: third paragraph from the bottom.

      • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

“They have fallen prey to an “echo chamber that promises hope, but only delivers deceit by offering claims of something that will not come.”"

Funny but that sounds like what’s happening in barkys FISAland.

        • Katmoon

Let’s translate this into political speak:

“They have fallen prey = Implying “They” are Victims

to an “echo chamber that promises hope,
but only delivers deceit= of something I consider(the writer) not to be true

by offering claims of something that will not come.”” =By making what I consider to be false promises(the writer)

This is opinion, as much is not fact, and it’s insulting.

          • Hope Floats

I’ll admit I skipped the article. I’d rather set my hair on fire and put it out with a claw hammer than vote for Obama, and I’m not interested in what some lay-down bitch has to say about my femininity.

      • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

        trolltommy

        Take it from MAXINE

ever notice how people who tell you to calm down are the ones who got you mad in the first place?

        DOH

        go HOME Obama
        you don’t belong here

        • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

Yep just like when someone starts a sentence by saying “don’t be offended”. I usually tell them OK, shut up and I wont be.

          • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

and usually that (don’t be offended) comes as an unsolicited opinion to begin with

I will say “wait, did I even ASK for your opinion here?”

            and vice versa

“don’t ask for my opinion if you don’t want the truth, no offense”

            • 935 Lies

Just yesterday I dumped the cat box.

I am MUCH more concerned about cat shit than about how I am seen by the MSM, Obamabots, my mailman or the young woman who rings up my groceries at the market.

Coming to THIS site and presenting arguments that a failure to vote for Obama is against my interests or that I will somehow miss the, “Hopey-Changey” boat, or that Yuppie wannbes will think I am unhip is so far below ludicrous because I, personally could care less about those things.

I will NOT vote for a candidate whose resume can be inscribed in a postage stamp, whose campaign employed low tactics and whose meme is: “You don’t worship OBAMA? You Racist Fuck!”

The average Obamabot telling me about electoral politics is about like an 8 year-old boy telling me about screwing.

              Just not near as funny.

  • CheapEmptySuit

She sounds guilty enough to me to have a desperate need to explain away her sins by blaming others. Sound familiar anyone? I mean B Hussein Obama does that constantly. Always explaining away their guilty sins and never taking responsibility for their wrongs. Blaming others of what they are guilty of is getting sooo old. Now they are doing tv ads with subliminal messages like the wordOLD politics..it’s no longer “b-itch”. It’s OLD. I hope he disppears. MOST Americans can’t stand him. He didn’t get all those votes..no he stole votes

Poor baby Osama Obama. To hear his lament, you’d never guess that Obama repeatedly has argued that McCain picks his positions out of ambition. Obama recently told a group, “The price (McCain) paid for his party’s nomination has been to reverse himself on position after position.”
    Explain this away..
We can’t drive our SUVs and eat as much as we want and keep our homes on 72 degrees at all times … and then just expect that other countries are going to say OK. That’s not leadership. That’s not going to happen.”
    – Barack Obama
B Hussein is an idiot and a hypocrite. He won’t take care of his own. But he wants to take care of the world by putting his hand in our pockets and giving it away.
I am so disgusted. A hypocrite in words and deeds.
NOT fit to lead our country.

POLITICIANS & DIAPERS NEED TO BE
CHANGED OFTEN AND FOR THE SAME REASON

    • fif

“The price (McCain) paid for his party’s nomination has been to reverse himself on position after position.”

Remember Oprah’s gratitude journal? I get the point, it’s a lovely idea, but I still wanted to use my journal to smack her upside the head with.

        • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

personally if I had a choice

I’d prefer to be a woman

Yup, we are hurting ourselves when WE STAY SILENT AND ALLOW OTHERS TO WALK OVER US OR ON US!

HERE IS A MEMO FOR YOU:
ON THE CUTTING EDGE: New Non-Partisan Group To Promote Women’s Agenda
A Movement Is Born: The New Agenda
    http://thestilettoblog.com/2008/08/13/on-the-cutting-edge-new-nonpartisan-group-to-promote-womens-agenda.aspx

    WOMEN COUNT
    http://womencount.org/

WomenCount staked out a specific goal – to “stop the silence” about sexism in the media and throughout our society. Indeed, it is not enough simply to identify examples of gender bias; the Democratic Party needs to create a system of accountability. The Platform draft does this and concludes the language with, “Responsibility lies with us all.” We’ll take it.

“It was only two weeks ago that WomenCount launched our campaign to “Stop the Silence!” on sexism,”, said Stacy Mason, Executive Director of WomenCount.org, “ In that short time our grassroots efforts reached party leaders, the media, and voters around the country.

“ In Denver, it will relaunch as a “MoveOn.org for women’s issues and ideas.”

    ….and

    • Kelvin

I wish you PUMAs would stop with the 18 million votes crap. Most of those people will be voting democrat this fall. Only a handfull, namely you PUMAs will not.

      • Jim (Obama paid someone to impersonate me)

        You keep telling yourself that.

  • nobonomo

I am constantly amazed by sellouts like Taylor Marsh and others who would love nothing more than for women to remain victims and be subservient little followers. Tells you a lot about who they are and why most women are glad they are nothing like them.

If women take down Obama I say hell yes! It is about time to take serious action and the Taylor Marsh’s of the world can continue to be victims while the rest of us stand up for what is right.

    • Mary Lou

It’s the queen bee syndrome…. they are delighted to be the “chosen” females in a male world and they don’t give a hoot about other women, or anyone with lesser power, having the opportunity to shine. Women like these need to be identified and exposed. They do not understand collaboration. They are competitive and conniving. They are not our friends.

      • roseeriter

The example that comes to mind is Nancy Pelosi. A real hypocrit about advancing women, as long as it wasn’t Hillary. Nancy is #3 and won’t allow women to go any higher. She was willing to damage the whole party to stay in power.

      • beverly leslie

So true! T. Marsh M. Dowd and this idiot all suffer the same syndrome.

        • Dawnelle Leona del Puma

          I do NOT GET IT

I served with one of the LAST groups of women (wacs) basic training w/out men! 2nd group to do it with MEN’s 3 mile and men’s push ups (they were getting us used to the way the men were doing it before dumping us in with them)

That was a mistake imo. (putting us with men for basic training)

But maybe that’s because I am holding on to my fond memories of UNITY surviving basic training doing it the MEN’s way (where they said our bodies couldn’t handle it!!! It was inspiring and I treasure to this day those friendships!

I don’t recall any of those women being catty and backstabbing. But there were 40 of us so I’m not saying it didn’t happen.

It was just that we were in it together trying to accomplish something none (or not many) had done before us. And that damn run about killed me! LOL

I will never understand how women can treat each other so badly now. It’s so sad. Breaks my heart. :-(

          oorah? sniff

      • FranSC

“…they are delighted to be the ‘chosen’ females in a male world and don’t give a hoot about other women…they are competitive and conniving…not our friends”.
Very true!! That nails Nancy Pelosi. She dissed Jane Harmon her fellow CA Congresswoman who was in line for an appt NP was to make – she gave it to a man. I’m convinced she went after Hillary since she is third in line to be POTUS and SHE wants to be the first woman president or at the very least wants no other woman eclipsing her power and position. Good luck on that one, Missy! After all you have done to sabotage this election, you will be lucky to hold onto your house seat.

      • http://! Clinton Fan

They don’t understand collaboration with those like them, but they sure as hell do understand collaboration with the OPPRESSORS of those like them!

I like that definition–”Queen Bee Syndrome.” It sure does sum this Dahlia up, as well as many others.

I really thought that intelligent young women got over that after high school…

  • Soldier of Christ

Let see if you put this comment on your blog, coward. “The fruit of the spirit is faith.” This word faith clusters such attributes as dependablity, trustworthiness, loyalty and maturity. The word faith cannot be grasped by the Obama’s human mind, so we are then called scorn women, over 40, and other names to identify us. It is the gathering of lovers of America and the importance of having an experience person to lead us through this turmoil. So, if scorn is what we are called, then let it be! For “wisdom is given to the elected” not the babes!

  • http://IthinkIfeel... Tricia Spiegel

This woman is attempting to show off her literary acumen, but it hides her basic misunderstanding of the current issues. It’s not about Hillary for many of us–it’s about the DNC and the unDemocratic Party. It is not against our own self-interests to demand that it be fixed. To “go along with” and hope that “being nice” will work in the meantime is like hoping your abuser will stop if you try harder to please him.

Another point–pulling out the sad women in literature is far different than a whole movement of millions of women gathering up their strength to say “enough!” Rights and respect rarely comes from the outside. It comes from effective organization.

  • CheapEmptySuit

There is a new group called “silent no more”. Look for it at the convention. There are several new groups/pacs. One is a total breakaway
from NARAL, NOW and Emily’s list. Woo Hoo. Payback is Beach. We will not forget.

    • Linda K

I’m sorry, but what exactly has NOW done? Except endorse her through the National NOW PAC. President Kim Gandy went on the trail with Hillary and opened up offices all over the country and called the MSM on their sexism. Please don’t lump NOW with NARAL or Emily’s List.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=toUEwcYv6s8 Woman Voter

Women are 58% of the Democratic Party, yet we are to stay silent? If we can’t hold our ground here in the USA what does that say about us?!? NOW, we go forward!

The US is 70th in the world for the election women, women own 1% of all titled land in the world and represent 70 percent of the world’s poor and face abuse world wide and even murder for being born women.

Please, give it a rest, and don’t tell me I don’t have a right to OBJECT when they don’t COUNT THE VOTES (Civil Rights for everyone except for women or men that vote for women? Voting Rights are Civil RIGHTS!) for THE BEST CANDIDATE THAT JUST HAPPENS TO BE A WOMAN!

Abigale Adams who was bold enough to tell her husband to “not forget the ladies” when he attended the Continetial Congress.

Sarah Grimke, an abolitionist and a women’s rights advocate who was speaking out in 1836.

The Founders of the Lowell Female Labor Reform Association in 1884.

Harriet Tubman, conductor on the underground railroad,1849.

    Sojourner Truth
    1851, known for her speech “Ain’t I a Woman”.

Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Susan B. Anthony, 1866, Women’s suffrage movement.

Alice Paul and Lucy Burris, organizers of the National Womens Party in 1913.

Jeanne Rankin, first woman elected to Congress, 1916.

Margaret Sanger, founder of Planned Parenthood, 1916.

Eleanore Roosevelt, wife of FDR, who spoke out against the segregation of the military during WWII.

Just a few “harridans” who have succeeded in changing our country for the better. I’m sure Senator Hillary Clinton’s advocates are proud to join this awe-inspiring group of women who were reviled in their lifetime in the same way Ms. Lithwick says these women are reviled today.

The suggestion that irrational, emotional, self-referential women are swinging the election is not a theme any woman should endorse.

None of these women mentioned “played along to get along” and many of them spent time in prison to “Swing [an] election” and get their voices heard. In fact, the Comstock Laws were passed to silence them.

The real harridans of this election aren’t Hillary supporters, most of the irrational, emotional and self aggrandizement is coming from the Obama group.

And just to emphasize that it isn’t a “woman’s only” issue, here’s an honorary mention: Theodore Roosevelt‘s Bull Moose Party was the first to adopt a Women’s Suffrage plant in 1912.

Just wondering if Dahlia thought she was being HELPFUL by referring to us as MURDERESSES???

      What a fool.

That sexism in the media occurred without one comment of outrage from any member of the DNC or leading Democrats is beyond acceptance. It is a call to political action.

That names of locker-room caliber were hurled repeatedly at Hillary in public, liberal, political blogs without any comment from blog owners or allegedly progressive Democrats is beyond tolerance. It is another call to political action.

That some progressive women and men of today had the audacity to believe that a woman could run for the highest political office in the land and be taken seriously for her efforts is something to be praised, not condemned.

So, no. Many of us are not just going to lie back and enjoy this travesty. We’ve taken up arms, declared our votes to belong to ourselves, and plan to take the only defense allowed in a democracy through the ballot box.

Plus, many of us see this candidate as seriously flawed. They say he’s a new kind of politician. Well, I believe it. It takes true audacity to trash FISA throughout a fiercely fought primary and then to casually, calmly turn around and vote FOR it, later.

That’s different, all right. I doubt I’ve ever seen a candidate believe he could get away with that much disconnect between his words and his actions.

In other words, I have no belief in anything the man says. And I refuse to vote for anyone who is capable of that much duplicity.

But in allowing themselves to be portrayed—over and over—as petulant harridans, unable to “heal” from the wounds of the primaries, these Clinton supporters are embracing the same she-devil stereotypes they once claimed to resent.

We are “allowing ourselves to be portrayed?” Just like Hillary “allowed” herself to be treated like a witch in the media? It’s not up to us–they decide the narrative and then hammer it home. That’s why they are portraying us this way–to diminish and dismiss the message re: anti-democratic practices in the Dem Party. They don’t want to hear our real message–and neither does Dahlia. She wants to show the world how very clever she is, but misses the fundamental point. They all do. The same patronizing, condescending attitude that set the tone for the primaries is being used now to minimize the reaction. We are just “hysterical and irrational.” No, we are very fact based. That’s the problem. We actually know what really happened, and who BO is and isn’t, and we are not buying what they are selling. If demanding democratic practices makes me a harpie, count me in.

This reminds me of the feminist movement and N.O.W. back in the 60’s. They had this fear that if lesbians were included in their ranks that they would all be labeled as lesbians. They were so afraid of what people would think that they went against all they claimed to be for – “equality for all women”.

They are also so myopic with their claims that we are “voting against our own best interest.” Well, voting to endorse corrupt practices such as voter suppression and theft is the ultimate self-sabotage in a democracy. If you vote against transparent democratic practices and individual rights and support BO/DNC, we will have much bigger problems than the next Supreme Court judge.

  • elise

Let me see. How long have men (and other women) told me to do exactly that. I am argumentative and a little combative. I was the same as a child and my mother used to tell me not to argue with my father. My first husband was happy I was going to college (for a while) and then started to resent it and sabatoge me. When I applied for my first job and it came down to two applicants being considered, the job was given to a less qualified man because he had a family to support. When I threatened to go to Affirmative Action, I was told that wasn’t a good idea and like a fool, I didn’t and began looking for another job. Candadites have asked for my vote in the past, but no one has threatened me or my choice until this year. I am not afraid. Not for myself or for Hillary. The only way to shut me up is to kill me and even then, I would win if I am true to my principles. The more I am told to sit down and shut up, the taller I will stand and the more noise I will make.

I am Lady Macbeth, pyromaniac Bertha Mason, Cruella DeVil and the biblical Lilith. I am Snow White’s wicked stepmother, Miss Havisham, and Emily Bronte’s ghostly Catherine Earnshaw. I am the oldest literary type around—the bitter madwoman, hellbent on revenge and willing to act against her own interest to win some respect. I am a creepy literary type that harms women a lot more than it helps them.

And Dahlia Lithwick, perhaps after you yourself become someone noteworthy we can do lunch………..what a load of balloon juice you currently are at the moment though. Pass the bon bons, I’m feeling sort of nappish, anyone else.

Why is it all of a sudden not okay to stand up for what one believes? Wasn’t this country founded by very rebellious activists who stood up against mad King George? Why must a woman, conditioned by the same patriarchal culture we were and are all subject to, identify not with her gender but the abuser? This is pure self-loathing projected onto citizens( yes, citizens just like men are citizens)who are free to express themselves about the absolute corruption of the Democratic Party by BO and his gang. Dahlia negates women as human beings–I have seen this in higher education, women professors who have identified with their male counterparts so completely that they end up seeing women in the exact same way as some misogynists. It’s self preservation and they’ve sold out to ‘feel’ equal to the big boys. So I think that we Hillary supporters and PUMA members should take an article like this as the highest compliment for we have moved women like Dahlia to express the self-hatred of themselves (as women) by projecting it onto millions of citizens who dared to satnd up against the destruction of the Democratic process.

    • Jane

    Dahlia Lithwick?

  • Leisa

Those xx factor girls look at the Obama girl and do not see anything wrong there.

My 18 year old daughter is so disgusted with the way things are going for young women. This week she told me, “Something is wrong with our country when it is no longer insulting to call a girl a slut.”

Dhalia Lithwick, it is attitudes such as yours that women have to rise up and put a stop to your brainwashed idiocy. Or do you think that “Girls Gone Wild” is a great avenue to young women to explore their sexuality?

I know you want to be a part of the “cool girl” team and want the “boys” to like you, but what about having them respect you?

You and your attitudes are what will keep the decline in respectful discourse between and toward women steady.

    • StrawberrybitesBarky

  • Peggy Sue

Yup, that’s what we all are, just a bunch of witches, bitches and harridans because we’re unwilling to serve pot roast and kisses to the loyal Democratic troops. But then there’s the small matter of the candidate to contend with, who is still unqualified, inexperienced and beyond arrogant.

BTW, this has nothing to do with Hillary Clinton anymore. This doesn’t have anything to do with women’s rights. [Surprise! It's not the only issue I vote on.] It has everything to do with choice: the Dems chose. I choose to reject, which is my right as an American citizen. And the media? They can spin themselves into Outer Mongolia for all I care. They relinquished any respect I had for them during this primary season.

So fine, continue with the namecalling because we all know that’s a sure way to guarantee votes.

    See you in November.

Women so in love with a man who issues dress codes for female reporters, calls a professional female journalist “sweetie”, refers to his own grandmother as “a typical white person”, says a woman’s mental health should NOT be a consideration for late-term abortion, a man who did not attend his own mother’s funeral?

Women are “Damned if you do. Damned if you don’t.” No matter what we say or do as individuals, someone always wants to cast us into some sterotype. And no matter what, it is never good enough. Too weak, too strong, too aggressive, too passive, too thin, too fat, too smart, too dumb, too bitchy, too sweet, too sexy, too frigid, too giving, to selfish, too homebound, too wordly. Now in my 40′s- I have learned to say “fuck ‘em if you don’t like it”. I am what I am, and that’s a complex woman, not a sterotype. I look back to my 20′s and shake my head. I let so much SHIT derail my view of myself. I look to amazing women in their 60′s like Hillary and think that’s what it is like to be finally free.

Seems to me Dahlia Lithwick needs a history lesson. The sexism that Hillary Clinton endured in her primary campaign and that her many supporters are still enduring today is nothing more than a modern day and non-violent version of what happened to Lucy Burns and 32 other women in 1917 in what has become know as the Night of Terror. After I saw what happened to Hillary this primary season by the DNC and the media I realized that sexism is still alive and well. In fact, sexism is tolerated more in this society than racism.

Read Lucy Burn’s story below and tell me – isn’t this what Hillary and her supporters endured and still endure? Only this time it was done by the media and the DNC without the chains and blood.Hillary endured a high-tech lynching.

This is the story of our Grandmothers and Great-grandmothers, as they lived only 90 years ago. Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote. And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden’s blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of ‘obstructing sidewalk traffic.’

They beat Lucy Burn, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air. They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack. Additional affidavits describe the guards grabbing, dragging, beating, choking, slamming, pinching, twisting and kicking the women.

Thus unfolded the ‘Night of Terror’ on Nov. 15, 1917, when the warden at the Occoquan Workhouse in Virginia ordered his guards to teach a lesson to the suffragists imprisoned there because they dared to picket Woodrow Wilson’s White House for the right to vote.

For weeks, the women’s only water came from an open pail. Their food–all of it colorless slop—was infested with worms. When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

HBO’s movie ‘Iron Jawed Angels’ It is a graphic depiction of the battle these women waged so that I could pull the curtain at the polling booth and have my say. HBO has released the movie on video and DVD
It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn’t make her crazy. The doctor admonished the men: ‘Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.’

    • Hillary Harridan

      Dahlia can lick this.

‘Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.’

Making me think of an almost forgotten (and important) book called, “Women Who Run With The Wolves” Myths and Stories of the Wild Woman Archetype, By Clarissa Pinkola Estes, Ph.D.

Estes posits that all human beings – but especially women – visit the ‘underworld’ from time to time in order to remain sane.

The Hillary Harridan – is this archetype. A woman who is deeply wronged will unleash the female warrior archetype.

Becoming more of ourselves as we grow older – finding our voice, standing our ground – venerating the female soul – comes naturally if one is honest.

If we weren’t a little fey – I’d be worried. (And, I’m plenty worried.)

Younger women and men stand outside this reality.

These women will be faced with the same spiritual choice one day – Get in touch or die.

And men? Men know the benefits of running with women who run with the wolves…Just look at Bill!!

I just found out that Clarissa Pinkola Estes is protesting the way Denver is planning to cage protestors in Denver…

Wow! I hardly know where to begin. Lady Macbeth, Snow White’s wicked stepmother, bitter madwomen, creepy literary types–and so it goes, Lithwick’s cast of characters who make up the wild-eyed drama known as “Hillary Harridans.” If, as Lithwick implies, the “vengeful madwoman” is a PUMA double, perhaps a boring one trick MSNBC pony is Dahlia Lithwick’s Doppelganger.

There’s a time honored tradition in most societies of respect for all those generations of mothers and grandmothers whose hard work and determination pave the way for the next generation. These “Paleozoic stereotypes” whom Lithwick refers to as “irrationally destructive older women” make it possible for future generations to receive a good education and to vote for their candidate of choice.

If I were Dahlia Lithwick, I would be more rattled by Barack Obama’s admission that if it comes down to a choice he will put his support behind Palestinan interests than I would be threateded by all those “Madwomen of the Blogosphere” who keep crying “Out damned spot!” In the case of Barack Obama for President, the spot/blight/pox is not imaginary.

Eight Belles – I like your moniker. One of the things that ignited my ire came when an acquaintance – an AA male – said after I told him I was making calls for Hillary – “Hope she doesn’t end up like Eight Belles.”

Note to Dahlia–You waste your time with your girlish idol worship; your crush is unrequited, Obama will NEVER fuck you and tell you he loves YOU, only YOU! And the DNC men won’t think you’re “One of the boys” if you adapt their argument against your own self interests! They’ll just think you’re a dumb “C” word who is, as you plainly are, easily manipulated!! How’s that for some gender stereotyping, “Sweetie?”

Yes, indeed–I’m bullshit at the DNC and I’m not putting up with their thuggish bullying. I have a bank account full of money, money that they aren’t gonna get.

If they think they can “charm” me by using Dahlia as a tool to call me a harridan, well, let me cackle madly and tell them to go FUCK themselves…eh?

If they think they can SCARE me by saying that a vote for McCain is a vote to overturn Roe, all I can say is that Democratic Congress had better wake the hell up and start doing a little ADVISE AND CONSENT to make sure that doesn’t happen, shouldn’t they?

After all, we pay those bastards SIX lovely FIGURES to work half a year–time they started EARNING IT. If they don’t like McCain’s Supreme Court picks, SEND THEM BACK. Grow a pair, to use some male gender stereotyping!

They need to do better than the Crazy Card and the Abortion Guilt Card. How many more cards are there in that halfassed deck of theirs? The Race Card has been so overplayed it’s shopworn–we can see that one coming out of their deck a mile off…

I’ve only got two cards, myself: The “You DNC Guys are LYING, CHEATING ASSHOLES” card, and the “I’m Not Putting Up with Your Bullying Bullshit” card. And I’m throwing down. And I win, because I SAY SO…too bad if you don’t like it, Dahlia!

Can I say – too many strange things are happening – Gwatney’s murder – not investigated, not covered.

    Now this?

  • Peggy Sue

And what is it with female columnists making all these literary allusions? Comparing female opposers to Lady McBeth? So, we’re murderers now, too?

    Pul-e-ese!

Maureen Dowd has also been writing some very strange, off-the-deep-end op-eds.

Does she have a medical condition?

Today’s [or yesterday's]piece was a fictional scenario between McCain and Hillary, plotting, plotting Obami’s defeat.

    Bizarre!

I’m not sure what the point of these articles are. To change minds of dissenting men and women? Useless. To continue the dismissal of dissent, the fact that Obama’s glow has dimmed to alarming levels, that the election is no longer a given?

    Surprise!

Maybe to fill up space with empty words and nonsense?

Hot air is better, thank you very much. Frankly, if I wanted to be psychoanalyzed, I’d go to a shrink, not a half-ass journalist.

We’re not voting for Barack Obama because . . . we neither trust nor like him and given the choice we’ve decided to pull another lever in November. And if this Dahlia person and Maureen Dowd don’t like it? If Keith O. and Chris Matthews have a meltdown?

Tough sh-t!! Who do these people think they are? I own my vote, no one else: no group, no gender, no race, no party. As does everyone else on this board and elsewhere.

It’s called democracy. Get used to it.

    • http://investigatebarackobama.wordpress.com/about/ kat in your hat

Yes, I meant allusion earlier, not reference. I was having too much fun cackling and tasting my witch’s brew from my cauldron.

    • Kelley

“Does she have a medical condition? ”

In a word -yes- it’s called the full of shit syndrome.

Their fluffy attempts at writing slams against us is nauseating, sickenly sweet.

Just add Dahlia Lickwick to the Lolita Brigade.

A bunch of dumb bitches who are raped daily and try to silence those of us who complain about it.

      This is what they deserve.

    • stodghie

dowd probably thinks she is the modern dorothy parker. that is so not so!

      • http://! Clinton Fan

        Impossible–Dorothy had talent.

    • 935 Lies

      >>> Does she have a medical condition?

      Other than being a dipshit?

  • Cooney

I guess women don’t have the right to revolt. Oh you old PUMA heretics you.

  • Cooney

The next suggestion is we should be burned at the stake for practicing witchcraft.

    • Jane

shhhhhhhh…..don’t give them any ideas. lol.

    • Hillary Harridan

We have the best story in our family about an ancestor who was burned at the stake. They must have used green wood or something, because the fire kept going out. So the townspeople got freaked out by that and were sure she was the most powerful witch they’d ever seen. They left her tied to the stake, packed all their shit and just left her there. A few days later, and her husband returned and found her. They moved to America, and we are still here. Not taking any of these women-bashing, hysterical “citizens” seriously.

  • navyvet48

I am not insane. We are not hurting Hillary. This is all way past Hillary now. Remember it was Brazile and the ilk who told us we weren’t part of the new party. Kiss off!

    • Peggy Sue

      Navy Vet!

I’ll be honest. That was the final straw for me. I had reservations about Obama. And frankly, I’ve always admired Hillary Clinton. But when Donna Brazile said flat out on CNN [heard it with my own ears] that the Democratic Party was a “New Party,” one composed of the educated, the urbane and sophisticated, a switch flipped in my head. She went on to say that any opposition “could just stay home.”

I saw red and was further infuriated with the Rule’s Committee decision at the end of May.

I come from a long, long line of Democratic loyalists, working class people who humped every 4 years for the Dems. I am the first university educated woman in my family and my husband and I have done reasonably well for ourselves. But I would never, ever look back or down on my family or my roots or any other working class family.

The fact that the Democratic Party is so cavelier in saying: The hell with you, we can win without you? It makes me absolutely crazy.

I’m convinced the Obama supporters will live to regret that attitude. My birth family, working class stiffs and many, many people like them have always been the backbone of the Democratic Party.

Let’s see if Dems can stand up easily without their “taken for granted” spine!

      • helen

I guess it is the Irish in me.
When someone tells me I should fall in line, my first response is You and whose army is going to make me.

Gee remember when candidates asked you to vote for them and gave you reasons why you should.

Not “we don’t need the people just the checks”
        Not “base stay home”
Not ” if you don’t vote for me you are a racist”
Not “bitter, clinging to religion and gun toting”
as a way to describe the voters of your
        party.
Can anyone think of any good reason to vote democratic this year.
        I can not.

        COUNTRY BEFORE PARTY ALWAYS

PUMAS,BUBBAS,THOSE PEOPLE AND HILLARY”S HARRIDANS RULE

  • stretch

Let me preface this with telling you that I am a Republican and not a Hillary supporter.

I have been lurking on all the Hillary sites and understand your fury at the way she was treated. If not for your sites, I would not have learned all the garbage that the DNC pulled. It makes me sick, as a woman, that this is going on.

I am of the Helen Reddy “I am Woman” generation that was “second classed” from childhood from my father to having men get jobs that I was more qualified for because they had a family. Discrimination got my back up early in life and it still galls me that this goes on.

    Sorry if I’ve “run on”.

GOOD LUCK LADIES…make them sit up and take notice in Denver.

  • LindaA1

Hmmmm. This Dahlia person doesn’t seem able to give us an example of a “Hillary” harridan but, by golly, she certainly does show us a stereo-typical harridan by example.

I’m so amused by the various pundits, bloggers and other Obama water-carriers who are doing their best to vilify us “die hard” Hillary supporters. I’m waiting for the last gasp stab – when they call us wart-nosed witches. You’ll know it’s coming when one of them trots out the penultimate characterization – “old crone.”

The more the silly heads name-call, the more ahead of the game we know we are.

  • Alex

Just like we (women and men alike) are working to get Pelosi, Brazile, Reed, Dean NOT re-elected, boycott Dahlia. Write/email/call NPR as one of her employers.

  • Ellen

Feminism is a joke for people like Lithwick. Let’s face it, for her to be able to sit around and write her little articles, she’s keeping other women down. She and her ilk do it on the back of the women who care for their children and clean their houses. And they think themselves ill used if they are asked to pay those women more than minimum wage.

Lithwick is just trying to come up with someone to blame when the “annointed one” fails to win the election. She needs to blame someone rather than look at why he failed to actually connect with and convince the American public to vote for him.

  • mimi

I’m not voting for 0bama and the misogyny and sexism of his campaign have very little to do with my reason.

I’m not voting for him because he is a liar, a cheater, a race-baiter, an inexperienced wannabe who can’t string 3 sentences together without a teleprompter.

I’m not voting for him because he stands for nothing.

I will not reward the Dem Party with my vote. I have kicked Dean, Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Reid and the whole bunch to the curb. I don’t even give Brazile the time of day.

All that happens when the sexism of the campaign is brought to my attention, is that I get extra mad. But as far as sexism is concerned, I can take care of myself. 0bama’s lucky he wasn’t running against me. He would have been so bitch-slapped. And as far as those yard dogs he calls volunteers, I eat yard dogs for dessert.

Nothing will persuade me to vote for 0bama, not even if they put Hillary on the ticket.

  • stodghie

i am proud to be a harridan. maybe i’ll just get a te shirt made up with that.

    • 935 Lies

I had one made up for an ex-wife that said, “Termagant in Chief,”

Unfortunately, DMV wouldn’t make a Vanity PLate embossed with “VIRAGO.”

  • Perry Logan

Better a harridan than a neurasthenic little prig.

  • Sharon

Sexism is alive and well in America, agreed, and was on display on the campaign trail. But for those of you comforting yourselves with the fantasy that Obama “stole” the election, or had it handed to him by the DNC, take a minute to recognize as well that Hillary’s campaign made some terrible mistakes early on which they were never able to recover from. That more than any other reason explains her defeat. If you want to burn someone at the stake, try Mark Penn or Howard Wolfson.

I have a question for you Tom. What would be your solution,(to make us stop) since you don’t like what we are doing? Not kidding seriously asking you.

Do we have a right to speak out?

Would you have us jailed for our opinion?

Would you have our vote taken away?

  • roseeriter

Anything is better than being an ignorant hypocritical SHEEPLE like you- go watch some sports and beat off. You’re either a left or right wingnut and that’s unAmerican.

  • Anita

huh? huhuh huh huh huh! All the stupid obots say the same? hey obot, Dhalia is so sexist like the sexist media. Or so sexist like you friggin dog. Awwwww and she can’t realize this! mmmh soo pity! and now tell me What part you don’t understand friggin dog?

  • tzada

Tell that to the Tibetans and the Chinese.

  • http://! Clinton Fan

The truth is, you’re scared shitless that your Messiah’s idiotic campaign is falling around his ankles like a loose pair of drawers, and you’re here to troll, to hector, to whine and disrupt, because it makes you feel a bit better to lash out at others rather than examine your Idol’s many failings.

Expect your pain and fear to INCREASE over the next two months.

We will remember in November, and in January, you’ll be sorry. We’ll be putting up with Popeye for four years, and you and your fellow bottom-feeders in the O-boy swamp will be the cause of it.

  • Katmoon

Tom, it wasn’t melodrama, I prefaced with “no kidding”, so please don’t assume melodrama. What is it our actions confirm, that we are denying about ourselves? I still don’t understand what your answer was, and am trying to have a conversation with you about it.

  • Newly Independent

you refuse to see that your actions confirm that which you deny about yourselves. It’s like watching a three year old stomp his foot and say “I’m NOT pouting!!!”

This is rich. BRATS trying to preach to others about pouting.

    Physician, heal yourself.

  • 935 Lies

Yeah, like we weren’t singing, “The Times, They Are a Changin’” a capella in VW vans, old station wagons and junker cars back in 1965…
