Hidden Costs Of the Healthcare Bill You Will NOT Believe*

I was shocked to discover more of what is hidden away in this horrible bill the Democrats are trying to ram down our throats to protect Obama’s presidency. Sorry, Obama – this isn’t ABOUT you! It is about the American people, who have been telling you and your hench people that we do NOT want this bill as it is drafted, with its giveaways to states, pharmaceutical companies, and insurance companies, while taxing us out the wazoo.

But FIRST, you just have to hear this interview with Rep. Kucinich (D-OH) as he explains why he sold his soul, Dennis Kucinich, D-OH, explains why he completely reneged on his commitment to NOT vote for the Healthcare Bill:

I don’t know about you, but that sounded like a whole bunch of nothing. He essentially admitted he caved after meeting with Obama and being told there would not be a public option. So, Kucinich apparently threw up his hands, said, “Oh, well!” and threw away his integrity. What a “man of his word,” standing by the power of his convictions – NOT. What a piece of work he is. Not only do I have zero respect for Kucinich now, a man I actually liked, but now my opinion of him is WAY in the red.

You are not going to believe the jobs created in this bill, though. Seriously – my mouth dropped open when I heard this from Rep. Boehner (R-OH), the Minority Leader. Admittedly, it is “job creation,” but at what cost to our democracy? Here is Rep. Boehner on the bill:

That’s right, this bill will create *SIXTEEN THOUSAND new IRS positions to hunt down employers, make sure they are doing right by this bill, and fining them if the agents don’t like what they find.

WHAT THE HELL???

And then there is the shell game the CBO and the House Democrats are playing with this bill. Rep. Paul Ryan, R-WI, the ranking member of the House Budget Committee, exposes the game and the double dipping the bill uses to “cut” the budget and deficit:

So, they are basically using the same pool of money for certain programs and just moving it around? Um, that sounds like Enron accounting to me.

But wait, there’s more – wanna guess where some of the money “saved” is going to go? You’re just going to love this:

The new package also promises new aid for colleges serving minority students, using money the government is supposed to save by no longer paying banks to make student loans. Included are annual payments of $100 million for schools with large numbers of Hispanic students, the same amount for colleges with many black students, and millions more for schools with large numbers of native Americans and other minorities.

I have no qualms about money being budgeted for certain groups when it is discussed during BUDGET decisions in the light of the day. But what the HELL is it doing being buried into the HEALTHCARE Bill? It is just these kinds of shenanigans, along with the NUMEROUS kickbacks still in this bill, that are the cause of so much opposition from the people. Here are some examples:

-Retains $300 million in extra Medicaid aid for Louisiana, which had helped win support for the Senate health bill from Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La. The state is still struggling to recover from Hurricane Katrina.

-Keeps $100 million included in the Senate bill that is expected to go for a public hospital in Connecticut sought by Dodd, who is retiring.

-Preserves language won by Baucus permitting many of the 2,900 residents of Libby, Mont., to qualify for Medicare benefits. Some of them have asbestos-related diseases from a now-shuttered mine.

-Provides an additional $8.5 billion over the next decade for 11 states and the District of Columbia to help them pay for the more generous Medicaid assistance they have been providing low-income residents. These states are Arizona, Delaware, Hawaii, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Washington and Wisconsin.

Holy smokes. But, hey – the Democrats are doing it to save Obama’s presidency, so there’s that. Yes, by all means, spend 1/6th of our economy to keep this sham of a president in power. All I can hope is that IF this passes the House, if there are enough mealy mouthed, cowardly lions like Kucinich in there to get this thing passed, it will mean a one term presidency for Obama. That would be the ONE bright light of this obscene bill. That and Nancy Pelosi losing her job as Speaker of the House. And Harry Reid losing his job as Senate Majority Leader. Still, this bill will be a mighty hefty weight to accomplish those three changes. It’s not worth it.

I can only hope and pray that the Nays will stand strong, and not allow this horrible bill to become law. That and for my state to join VA and Idaho in allowing us to be exempt from it (SC has already crafted legislation to that end). How sad that it may come to that. Still, there is a little hope that the Democrats will fail in their attempt to change the face of our nation. And it is to that hope I will cling…

* I have now heard two different numbers – fifteen thousand and sixteen thousand. Either way, to add in IRS agents to go to our businesses is a scary damn thought.

Yeah, that whole thing about the IRS is mind-boggling. We are creating a new POLITBUREAU. A state-sponsored agency to monitor whether or not people are following the mandate to buy a certain level of health insurance.

    It’s breathtaking, isn’t it?

I knew an Obama presidency would be a nightmare, but I never dreamed it would be this bad, this soon. God help us all. I cannot believe what I see from this Democratic party, such dirty underhanded tactics, with no regard for the will of the people. We need to make a clean sweep in November, and hold on til 2012,if that is possible.

  • Cindy

Rev. Amy—Thank you for the post. At first, hubby and I were mad. Now,  we’re really getting depressed, like many here.
This bill is like a Salvador Dali painting, come to life…..surreal!
And nothing, so far, seems to be able to stop its momentum. It’s like having one of those dreams where you’re trying to run away from something really terrifying, and yet, your legs won’t move, no matter how loudly you scream and how wildly you flail your arms about!
Obama and his ilk are major league evildoers, and that’s the most depressing part of this experience….being a witness to their evil doings, and knowing how it will profoundly affect us all.

  • Helen in Seattle

I caucused for Kucinich years ago when he was against the Iraq war.  Then he threw Hillary under the bus and now this.  I’m for a single payer, but this bill is not the way to go.  I’m disgusted with this man.  He did sell his soul – and it’s not going to help his Crohn’s disease either.  I’m sorry for him and his family.  How awful he turned out to be so “easy.”

Well, Betsy Markey, here in CO, one of the House “nay” votes just caved because she was convinced it would save so much money!!!  I would never want to go back to having Marilyn Musgrave respresenting part of CO in the House, but…..   It’s like a choice between the devil and the deep blue sea.

I am depressed, too.  I feel as if I’m experiencing the presidential primary all over again.  At least I’m getting old.  I am hoping I don’t live long enough to see the chaos that is sure to ensue if the country keeps going in the direction it’s going.  I didn’t want this for my kids and grandkids.  :’(

One word for this, Cindy,  is “Kafkaesque,” after the author Franz Kafka.  One definition in the Urban Dictionary: “Describing something that is horribly complicated for no reason, usually in reference to bureaucracy.”  Someone else describes it as “a nightmarish situation which most people can somehow relate to, although strongly surreal,  with an ethereal, “evil”, omnipotent power floating just beyond the senses.”

  • Juliezzz

Yeah only the difference between what Bill Clinton signed and what Obama is trying to pass is that Clinton’s was only for those who volunteered.   Obama wants to pass Mandatory Volunteerism (oxymoron) which really means a 2 year mandatory service for all Americans.  That means man, woman, old, young, college age and grades school retired everyone.  It means YOU.

  • Cindy

oowawa—that has captured my feelings exactly! Thank you!
You are so well-read, whereas, I’m just well RED, from anger!

  • PortiaElizabeth

Thank you , Rev. Amy, for the info in your post. I feel so sick inside to be witnessing this “transformation” of my country. How could a democracy enable such a horror to be perpetrated in its own name? Why are the reasonable voices of the people being silenced? Instead of transforming a caterpillar to a butterfly, we’re watching Dr. Jekyll become Mr. Hyde. If they succeed now, what will be next?

  • Juliezzz

They should know that they could be held for trial of treasonous crimes against America and her people.

With the bots, as with all true religious fanatics, the real issue is the sanctification and glory of their savior.  If He is happy and magnified, then they are happy, because they are His devout followers.  O-Whole Health is only Holy because the Leader has said: “Let there be Health Care.  Make it so!”  His Messiahship is at stake . . .

  • Guest

    Amy,

I love your sources. You quote two Republicans who have been lying about healthcare reform for the last year. You really believe these idiots who have nothing to offer. They are really getting desperate now. They cannot critize what the bill actually does, but now they are just critizing around the margins. IRS agents? Are you kidding me?

Why don’t you read the non-partisan CBO report for a more objective view. That idiot Boehner gives no proof about 15,000 IRS agents and even if the impact of the bill is to create more IRS agents then great. They will be needed to enforce the mandate. Nothing wrong with that and it works perfectly well in Massachusetts.

Second, Paul Ryan has no clue what he is talking about. Read the non-partisan CBO report for a more objective view and to understand how this bill will cut the deficit and debt.

The rest of your issues are just nickels and dimes compared to the nearly $1 trillion this bill will add to the social safety net of this country and the +32 million more that will be able to afford insurance.

Kucinich is doing the right thing. He realized there is no way he can stand in the way of progress and getting all these people insured and the lives it will save. In addition, the public option is not dead, as Harry Reid just today has promised a separate vote. That should make Kucinich happy.

If the bill is so bad why would the largest doctors group (AMA) and the largest retiree group (AARP) endorse this bill. They did that today.

And Amy if you really are a Reverand you will be happy to know that 59,000 catholic nuns and the head of the national association of Catholic hospitals endorsed the bill two days ago. So much for the abortion issue in this bill.

Amy, are you sure you were ever a Hillary or Democratic support? You sound more and more like a far-right wing fear monger afraid of your government paranoid person more and more every day, as you reach further and further to find any reason to critize Obama. You are decending into a hole of hatred and fear.

Try to wrap your mind around this: most doctors oppose this bill, the majority of citizens oppose this bill. Unless I was asleep when the coup happened, this is still a democratic government. The representatives need to listen to the people.

We all want healthcare reformed. This bill is NOT the way to do it.

Obama is cutting the deficit by cutting $535 Billion out of Medicare and raising another half Trillion dollars in increased taxation.

Hey, here’s a better idea: How about cutting out Medicare and Social Security altogether and when anyone in America gets to be 65 years old, he or she gets pushed off a cliff into the Grand Canyon — thereby relieving the government of all those nasty seniors.

Better yet: How about lowering the off-the-cliff age to 55 — that would REALLY cut the deficit?

And then the insurance companies could REALLY make even better profits — and Obama could be re-elected with the Junior vote since all the old folks (who are “on” to him) would be disposed of.

     - – -

P.S. AARP took the word “retired” out of its name years ago and sold out the seniors with the prescription drug bill — another gift to the pharmaceutical giants.

This is where well meaning ideas go terribly wrong. The government shouldn’t be into this to begin with, because this is what happens. It becomes politicized. It is a slippery slope when the government gets into the business of rearing children. I have noticed it with the schools as well. The kids come home telling me who came in to talk today, and they are pretty good at knowing when the guest speakers are being manipulative and self serving. I wish we could get back to the kids learning subjects at school and we could get out of social engineering altogether. Because, it is unfortunately largely politcal.

This is one of the e-mails I sent my Rep, Dan Maffei. It did no good whatsoever.

I adamantly oppose the passage of this healthcare bill. The majority of Americans do likewise. As our representative, you were elected to follow the wishes of your constituents, not the wishes of Nancy Pelosi, Rahm Emanuel, or Barack Obama. No one, including Nancy, has the right to tell you to vote against the wishes of the voters at home, or to sacrifice your political career for this bill. It is absolutely beyond reason for her to tell us that we must pass this bill to see what is in it. Most of us already know that we cannot afford the cost of this bill, that it steals from the Medicare system, that it taxes the people several years before it goes into effect, and that it will be loaded with surprises that have nothing to do with healthcare or health insurance. Insurance companies will, in fact, be the main beneficiaries of the bill which they have helped write.
The US government is already trillions of dollars in debt and borrowing heavily from countries which are not our friends. Our children and grandchildren are going to be saddled with debt that will weigh them down and will, in essence, “Kill the Goose that Laid the Golden Egg” which is/was America.
Furthermore, Barack Obama should not be asking you to “Save his presidency”. This is not about him. It is about us.
Dan Maffei, we are hoping you realize that this country is in turmoil over this bill and we hope you will do the honorable thing and represent us.
It is almost certain that Republicans are about to make a strong comeback this fall and in 2012. Voters are poised to vote against all incumbents who support this wretched bill. Please keep this in mind.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

AARP is not an organization for Seniors. It is an INSURANCE COMPANY. They are the LARGEST resellers of insurance, and makes mega millions.

And AARP masquerades as a ”Non-Profit”.

through the public records that AARP is required to file as a nonprofit, AARP derives significant income from its royalties. In 2008, it earned $652.7 million from royalities. Not all of this is from Medigap and Medicare Advantage, because AARP also offers life insurance, car insurance, dental insurance, credit cards and other services. All those royalties account for 57 percent of its total revenues. (The total is an eye-popping $1.14 billion.)

AARP advocates for insurance companies, not seniors.

NEW GALLUP POLL FINDS AMERICANS SUDDENLY SOURING MORE ON OBAMA

    NOW, WHY COULD THAT BE?

    LATimes
    Andrew Malcolm
    March 18, 2010

Americans, apparently unhappy with President Obama insulting Asian allies by twice postponing his long-planned trip there this week, have turned against the Democrat in a major poll.

Now, a new Gallup Poll finds, Obama’s public approval rating has suddenly fallen to the worst level since he took office however many years ago that seems. He was right around 70% in January of 2009.

Today, Gallup reports, the ex-senator has plunged to a 46% approval rating.
Today, even more disapprove of his presidency, 48%. That seems right down there in the Sarah Palin neighborhood.

True, Obama’s approval ratings had dropped faster during his first year in office than any recent rookie president. They had hovered around the 50% level the last couple of months.

But in recent days Gallup found Americans suddenly souring even more until more disapprove than approve.

The only possible reason to explain this drop is the public does not like the president’s NCAA tournament picks. Or maybe the fact that the administration’s $787 billion economic stimulus plan has stimulated unemployment up to 9.7%.
Unless this dramatic poll drop perhaps has a little something to do with Obama’s determined drive to….

    <!– sphereit end –>

…push through/down/up/over/into the $940 billion healthcare legislation that seems to have dominated virtually every moment of his public thought and talk for months.

A congressional showdown appears set now for Sunday using a series of controversial parliamentary maneuvers because the leadership of the overwhelming Democratic majorities in both houses either don’t have the votes to pass the measure as usual and/or they don’t want to force colleagues to take a recorded stand on the measure with crucial midterm elections coming in November.

Because the political opponents that Democratic leaders have labeled as “the party of No” now seem to be benefiting from saying No.

The Mass. treasurer is on saying if this healthcare bill (based on the Mass. model), passes it will bankrupt the USA.

  • Breeze

All presidents profess never to watch polls because they are far too busy making tough decisions to think about politics.

It is, however, theoretically possible that congressional Democrats facing election races this fall have glanced at polls showing their party leader’s diminution in approval and might conceivably have thought that voters could take it on them come November. Since Obama is not on any ballot and all three major candidates he’s campaigned for in recent months have lost.

Oh, speaking of Congress, the new Gallup Poll also finds that barely 16% of Americans approve of its job while 80% (as in eight out of every ten Americans) now disapprove of the work being done by both bodies and their Democratic leaders, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. Both of whom are up for re-election in November.

We don’t know Pelosi or Reid’s NCAA picks. So perhaps their unpopularity is somehow also tied to their dedicated drive for this healthcare legislation. Or their inability to effectively direct the large Democratic majorities Americans elected in 2006 and then again in 2008 to provide change.

  • samb

Many people don’t see the hidden price of this healthcare bill or the loss of freedoms that will occur . I will tell you the government can come in and impose laws on the individual like flood insurance causing your premiums to rise double and the price of your home to drop further, this is happening all across America (FEMA) even if your home may never be under water or near water. The government is already sticking it to Americans but not to all, so when this healthcare bill does or does not go into effect the waves of angry will flood the government phone lines. If you apply this situation to healthcare now what’s to say the government won’t say, 20 year old get more then 40 year olds and 40 year get more then 60 year olds and so on. This vote may start a ball rolling that may never stop, it may be only the beginning .

Only the idiots in Congress fail to see the price. The American people overwhelmingly see the cost, and are shouting out against it.

There were two veteran’s healthcare programs. One was TRICARE for LIFE and the other was TRICARE PRIME.  Now there’s a new program called TRICARE Standard. My previous healthcare covered my hospital/ER visits . Now I’m getting a large bill even after my insurance kicked in. There was no discussion of this and Obama and company (Pelosi/Reid) never mentioned this.

Screw the vets past and present and we better kiss the current Prez’s a$$.  Send more GIs to die Mr. President. Then screw them over when they get home.

But that’s okay. Obama gets what he wants and that’s all that matters. But none dare call it treason.

Memo Purportedly Urges Dems to Keep Quiet on Critical Health Care Topics

As the leadership in the House tries to persuade fence-straddling Democrats to push health care reform over the finish line, a “talking points” memo is being widely circulated in Washington that purports to show that those same leaders and the Obama administration are secretly planning to push for an increase in Medicare payments — an increase that would alter the cost of the bill.
The “From” line of the memo is scratched out, and Democrats emphatically deny sending it. A spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer described it as “suspicious.”

Wow nice article Amy. Mind blowing, 16 000 new IRS positions to enforce , chase down, and threaten u.s. employers. Like they need any more stress, especially small business owners, as they will be surely thinking twice before adding any extra staff.

Talk about authoritarian, wow. And those earmarks hidden in there are just pathetic……..nothing at all to do with healthcare whatsoever, just more largesse and favors. So crass and arrogant, do they think it wont be remembered or even noticed by people?

And I agree, after watching that video especially at the end, that  Kucinich is a coward. He was asked the questions 3 or 4 times and finally spit it out at the end that he essentially “caved for future special favors” like a lily-livered snake.

Was interesting listening to what the repubs had to say….what gets me is that the dems are trying to hype it in the news that it’s “us against the evil insurance companies to help you”….but in reality the insurance companies are going to have 10′s of millions of young people forced to buy monthly premiums. It’s all of the other crap that’s in there, too, that is so infuriating.

Oh, and that Congress won’t have the same kind of ins. they are trying to force on us.  Remember when Hillary said we would ALL have the same coverage?  Yeah – that’s what happens when you get the kid who cheats off the paper – he doesn’t know how it is really supposed to work, so screws it up when he has to do it on his own.

    MUST READ:

Barack Obama has awakened a sleeping nationGary Hubbell
Aspen Times WeeklyMarch 19, 2010Barack Obama is the best thing that has happened to America in the last 100 years. Truly, he is the savior of America’s future. He is the best thing ever.

Despite the fact that he has some of the lowest approval ratings among recent presidents, history will see Barack Obama as the source of America’s resurrection. Barack Obama has plunged the country into levels of debt that we could not have previously imagined; his efforts to nationalize health care have been met with fierce resistance nationwide; TARP bailouts and stimulus spending have shown little positive effect on the national economy; unemployment is unacceptably high and looks to remain that way for most of a decade; legacy entitlement programs have ballooned to unsustainable levels, and there is a seething anger in the populace.

That’s why Barack Obama is such a good thing for America.

Obama is the symbol of a creeping liberalism that has infected our society like a cancer for the last 100 years. Just as Hitler is the face of fascism, Obama will go down in history as the face of unchecked liberalism. The cancer metastasized to the point where it could no longer be ignored.

Average Americans who have quietly gone about their lives, earning a paycheck, contributing to their favorite charities, going to high school football games on Friday night, spending their weekends at the beach or on hunting trips — they’ve gotten off the fence. They’ve woken up. There is a level of political activism in this country that we haven’t seen since the American Revolution, and Barack Obama has been the catalyst that has sparked a restructuring of the American political and social consciousness.

Think of the crap we’ve slowly learned to tolerate over the past 50 years as liberalism sought to re-structure the America that was the symbol of freedom and liberty to all the people of the world. Immigration laws were ignored on the basis of compassion. Welfare policies encouraged irresponsibility, the fracturing of families, and a cycle of generations of dependency. Debt was regarded as a tonic to lubricate the economy. Our children left school having been taught that they are exceptional and special, while great numbers of them cannot perform basic functions of mathematics and literacy. Legislators decided that people could not be trusted to defend their own homes, and stripped citizens of their rights to own firearms. Productive members of society have been penalized with a heavy burden of taxes in order to support legions of do-nothings who loll around, reveling in their addictions, obesity, indolence, ignorance and “disabilities.” Criminals have been arrested and re-arrested, coddled and set free to pillage the citizenry yet again. Lawyers routinely extort fortunes from doctors, contractors and business people with dubious torts.

We slowly learned to tolerate these outrages, shaking our heads in disbelief, and we went on with our lives.

But Barack Obama has ripped the lid off a seething cauldron of dissatisfaction and unrest.

In the time of Barack Obama, Black Panther members stand outside polling places in black commando uniforms, slapping truncheons into their palms. ACORN — a taxpayer-supported organization — is given a role in taking the census, even after its members were caught on tape offering advice to set up child prostitution rings. A former Communist is given a paid government position in the White House as an advisor to the president. Auto companies are taken over by the government, and the auto workers’ union — whose contracts are completely insupportable in any economic sense — is rewarded with a stake in the company. Government bails out Wall Street investment bankers and insurance companies, who pay their executives outrageous bonuses as thanks for the public support. Terrorists are read their Miranda rights and given free lawyers. And, despite overwhelming public disapproval, Barack Obama has pushed forward with a health care plan that would re-structure one-sixth of the American economy.

I don’t know about you, but the other day I was at the courthouse doing some business, and I stepped into the court clerk’s office and changed my voter affiliation from “Independent” to “Republican.” I am under no illusion that the Republican party is perfect, but at least they’re starting to awaken to the fact that we cannot sustain massive levels of debt; we cannot afford to hand out billions of dollars in corporate subsidies; we have to somehow trim our massive entitlement programs; we can no longer be the world’s policeman and dole out billions in aid to countries whose citizens seek to harm us.

Literally millions of Americans have had enough. They’re organizing, they’re studying the Constitution and the Federalist Papers, they’re reading history and case law, they’re showing up at rallies and meetings, and a slew of conservative candidates are throwing their hats into the ring. Is there a revolution brewing? Yes, in the sense that there is a keen awareness that our priorities and sensibilities must be radically re-structured. Will it be a violent revolution? No. It will be done through the interpretation of the original document that has guided us for 220 years — the Constitution. Just as the pendulum swung to embrace political correctness and liberalism, there will be a backlash, a complete repudiation of a hundred years of nonsense. A hundred years from now, history will perceive the year 2010 as the time when America got back on the right track. And for that, we can thank Barack Hussein Obama.

  • HARP

I heard her talk at the state assembly and convention during the primary.  She’s a naive young woman.  Someone in the party obviously convinced her this was going to be a miracle bill that would solve healthcare problems and counteract the slide into financial ruin that we’re all on.

Boehner asks Pelosi for roll call vote on bill? Isn’t that funny?

    FROM:

    CONGRESSMAN DAN BURTON (R)

Why We Must Fight This Health Care Bill

    Friends,

For over a year, I’ve been fighting the government-run health care policy that President Obama and Congressional Democrats have sought to impose on America. However, as conservatives in America made our case to the public and won enough support to stop the policy, we have seen Speaker Nancy Pelosi and others subvert the process and undermine the rule of law to impose their will.
Yesterday, 222 Democrats in the House voted to allow the use of an unconstitutional legislative trick known as the Slaughter Solution. This trick allows Nancy Pelosi to “deem” the Senate health care bill passed out of the House without actually having members of Congress vote on the bill. I thought I had seen the worst abuse of power when the Democrat leaders in the Senate began buying votes to pass their bill, but if Nancy Pelosi successfully ducks a vote in her bid to provide political cover for vulnerable House Democrats, she will have undermined the democratic process, the integrity of the Congress, and trampled on the Constitution.

As the 72 hour clock ticks down to Sunday’s final vote, it is important to remember why the House wants to avoid voting on the Senate bill. The special deals that were made during the Senate vote sale on Christmas Eve 2009 included, but are not limited to, the infamous Cornhusker Kickback and Louisiana Purchase, and less known deals like cash for union health care, fee exemptions to politically connected insurers, and longshoreman becoming exempt from the health care tax—all secret backroom deals given to Senators willing to sell their vote on so-called health care reform.

    CONTINUED BELOW

  • Breeze

And the secret sweetheart deal-making continues even now in the eleventh hour. In the last week, we discovered that the health care reform bill suddenly includes a government-takeover of the student loan industry, which threatens the jobs of thousands of Hoosiers employed by Sallie Mae. To add to this onion of corruption, a single bank in North Dakota will be exempt from the provisions of the student loan takeover—North Dakota’s lone Member of Congress has long been undecided on how to vote on Obamacare. They call this one the Bismarck Bank Job.

Who pays for all the horse-trading? At a cost of over $1 trillion in deficit spending, $569 billion in job-killing tax increases, and $523.5 billion in Medicare cuts, it’s Hoosiers in the 5th Congressional District, taxpayers across the country, seniors, and future generations who will be forced to pay through taxes, job-loss, and debt-induced inflation for a government takeover of health care and student loans.

I know millions of Americans are waging a war against this bill with phone calls, letters, and emails to Congress. As you continue to fight, I recommend arming yourself with the following facts about this bill:

    • The new version released yesterday has over $1 trillion in new entitlement spending, $65 billion more than the Senate-passed bill

    • Hits the American people with over half-a-trillion in tax hikes

    • Uses Medicare as a piggy bank – nearly half-a-trillion in Medicare cuts to pay for the new entitlements

    • Allows federal funds to pay for elective abortions and denies adequate conscience protection to individuals and institutions

    • Mandates a massive expansion of Medicaid, and 500,000 Hoosiers would become newly eligible, costing Hoosier taxpayers billions more in state taxes, and causing one in four Hoosiers to be on public assistance

    • The Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP) would be eliminated as the new federal rules would force the 45,000 families who are currently covered into the Medicaid fee-for-service delivery model

    • Many Hoosiers who currently have health insurance will pay higher premiums – the Congressional Budget Office estimates an average increase nationally of $2,100 for some families, and a study of the effects in Indiana showed premium increases ranging up to 78%

    • A job killing tax of $2,000 per employee will be levied on many companies which cannot afford or choose not to provide health insurance to their employees

The American people don’t want this, and you deserve better than this. While this bill might pass on Sunday, I promise my fellow Hoosiers that I will be fighting for liberty and constitutional government, and to kill these government-takeovers now, and in the future.

    Sincerely,

    Dan Burton

Oregon Rep. DeFazio Switches ‘Yes’ Vote to ‘No’ on Health Care Bill

    FOXNews.com

Just when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to be one vote shy of the number needed for health care reform to pass, a Democrat who voted for the bill last year announced he is switching his vote to no.

The vote tally on health care reform is starting to look like the Dow.

Just when House Speaker Nancy Pelosi seemed to be one vote shy of the 216 she needs for health care reform to pass, a Democrat who voted for the bill last year says he’s switching his vote to no.

The opposition from Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., dials back the number of House members leaning toward voting yes to 214, and the number leaning toward voting no to 217.

DeFazio announced his opposition shortly after Ohio Rep. John Boccieri, also a Democrat, announced that he will switch his vote to yes, temporarily putting Pelosi within one vote of what she needs.

    DEMOCRATS DIDN’T LISTEN TO MASSACHUSETTS

    LET’S SEND THEM ANOTHER MESSAGE

    Posted by Charles Djou
    http://www.Dijou.com
    Friday, March 19th
All eyes are on the House this week as Washington Democratic leadership tries to use obscure and questionable procedures to pass — by hook or by crook — an extremely unpopular health care bill that will become a fiscal disaster for generations to come.  I’m not a naive person by any means, but I’m just astonished at their relentless pursuit of folly.

Like the majority of Americans, I thought Senator Scott Brown’s election in Massachusetts sent a message.  The message we were sending couldn’t have been clearer: Stop. Somehow, the Democrats in Washington, D.C. still aren’t listening, doubling down on passing a takeover of one-sixth of our nation’s economy without even so much as a formal vote.

While Nancy Pelosi continues to twist arms, I’m working hard on behalf of the people of Hawaii to send another message.

If electing a Republican to the Senate and Massachusetts wasn’t enough of a message, maybe sending a Republican from Barack Obama’s hometown will be.

On April 30th, ballots will arrive for an all mail-in special election for Hawaii’s First Congressional District.  I’m the Republican candidate in the race and there’s a strong possibility that I will win.  I’m running against a divided Democrat field in a winner-take-all special election to fill the seat vacated by Congressman Neil Abercrombie.

Our new TV ad will tell you a little bit about myself and my record of service, both in the Army Reserve and in Honolulu, where I stood up to reckless spending:

If you want to send another message, I hope you’ll visit us at Djou.com.

Contribute. Join us. It’s time to send a message to Washington, and it’s time for a Congress that listens.

If Obama-bots are people who like to make sure political discussions are backed by at least a semblance of intelligence, then guilty as charged.
And nice “Grace-less” crack. How would we have ever freed ourselves from the shackles of the British if we didn’t resort to name-calling…

  • lorac

Well, since it’s only for minority colleges, I’d guess it’s for the minority vote.

I really believe this kind of thing should be aimed at income, not race.  With it aimed at race, middle class minorities can get assistance instead of needier non-minorities – and we’ll have more Obamas, people who come from privileged backgrounds but get a free ride – and oh, that’s an awful thought, more Obamas.  Ew.  If people need help, it’s because of their income – so if you want to get to them the most direct way, you’d use income as the qualifier….

Amy – They forced it in for one reason – to show how they are going to lower the deficit. That is it. Where is the outrage in the lamestream media?

They also did not yet put in the doctor fix (get rid of reduction in medicare payments to hospital/doctors) which would add $250 billion in cost. There is a memo that they will do it after passage so as not to throw off the CBO estimate. Where is the outrage in the lamestream media?

It is funny all this critize and nobody really taking on the CBO report. It is there for you to read. It say this bill will save the company money.

  • Hokma

Health insurance are not total losers in this, but as Biden said, they will control them. What does that mean? Are they going monitor and approve care and treatment? Are they going to force these companies to lower their profit margins lower than they already are (someone previously posted that they have some of the lowest profit margins of any industry)?

I believe that between state lawsuits, activist group lawsuits, and a complete seachange in DC in November – that this will never come into use for a long time and will be repealed when Obama is thrown out.

If you expect anyone to listen to you it’s important to sound well-informed and intelligent. Noogan sounds like someone who can’t even be bothered to look up a word they don’t understand because they’re too busy screeching.
I’m sure they enjoy posting on here where they feel like anything they write down, no matter how ignorant, will be celebrated because it says “O’Bummer” or something, but if they actually want to change the minds of their fellow Americans, those could actually help them fight against what they so vehemently detest, they need to not sound stupid.
So Buzzlatte, I can tell you with 100% conviction that no matter what side of the debate Mr. or Mrs. Noogan happened to be on, I am appalled merely by their idiocy.
Now what does that say about me?

  • Grace

What is says is that you feel you have the right to judge and that your judgement is the only one with merit.

What that says about you is that you feel only you are the best judge of character and intelligence.

What that says about you is that you have a problem with boundaries and what that says about you is that you are intolerant.

You have no interest in changing the minds of americans.  You are only interested in power and control.

You don’t really see anything as having value unless it is handed to you  and not earned.

You do not see the ramifications of the change you and Obama support.  You do not see the big picture nor are you really interested in others as a whole.  You are only interested in the immediate which is a way to get something for nothing by stealing it.

You are woefully unequipped to deal with real life if you believe that promoting change that is ultimately detrimental to the whole will somehow even they playfield.

You have no idea of the battle you think you should win.

I feel like I have the right to judge? I’ll just stop you there. Please, please, I implore you- Find me one person who supports ignorant statements. If I was against the healthcare bill because I think it gives money to werewolves, should I not be taken to task? What if I said the Constitution was written by Abraham Lincoln and therefore Obama should be impeached? There are plenty of thoughtful, calm and informed people on both sides of the healthcare debate. (You could very well be one of them.) But if it’s too much to demand that everyone strive for this before offering such strong statements like Noogan did, then this country you’re worried about losing is already lost.

TEAGUE TO VOTE ‘NO’ – PELOSI’S MARGIN NOW ZERO

    By Ed Carson
    Capital Hill
    March 19, 2010

Harry Teague of New Mexico will vote no.
I had hoped to have a chance to vote on a bill that provided affordable health care options to all American families, but after reviewing the final health care reform proposal, I do not believe that the bill does enough to contain costs and it definitely does not do enough to rein in the out of control insurance companies that are driving up healthcare costs in this country. In fact, I believe we are doing more for the insurance companies than we are for the people who need this coverage, and that is why, despite the positive steps it takes, I must vote against this bill.
By some measures Teague was viewed as a lean no, by others undecided. The road to victory for Pelosi without an abortion deal is narrowing. The liberal FiredogLake.com now says Pelosi may have to run the table to win without the Stu-pack.
If you look at the numbers below, you understand why this is consequential. Teague puts the definite No votes at 210, with five leaners, four of them part of the Stupak bloc. There are only 8 undecideds left, and 208 Yes votes with leaners. So Pelosi would have to get all 8, including Stupak bloc member Kathy Dahlkemper, and hold Marcy Kaptur (who probably shouldn’t be a lean Yes). Failing that, she could try to flip Glenn Nye, or go to one of her committee chairs voting No (Ike Skelton, Collin Peterson) and ask them to walk the plank.

You feel you have the right to show up and judge others and by that you feel that your judgement is the only correct one.

You feel that only you know what constitutes idiocy when, by you own reaction to the comment, you, yourself, display a fine example of said idiocy.

You are not interested in discourse or only discussing the merits, but rather in control and take-over.

You are not interested change but rather more control and getting something handed to you rather than earning it.  You are another gold star child wanting all the rewards without the work.

You are not interested in leveling the play field because you have no real interest in anything or anyone outside of the immediate.  To do so would require you to look at the whole and the real ramifications of the change you and your ilk so fondly adore.

You have no real buy-in because you have no real knowledge of history and how this road has already been traveled in other parts of the world to the detriment of those afflicted by poor decisions by supposed leaders and mindless supporters.

I describe it as Social Security for the last 60 years. This will be a worse manipulation of taxpayer funds thanSS has been. Grace — I don’t recall seeing you here before tonight and that’s possibly part of the friction. Blog etiquette dictates that one doesn’t burst onto the scene with a scolding of another blogger, even if deserved. If you visit many sites you surely must see that people become quite animated and emotional in their comments and sometimes, in their haste to post, will misspell a word or misuse one. If you yourself have never done this, it may be hard to grasp, but most people engaged in discussion are guilty at one time or another.

If you want to earn credibility here, and are not just another agitator, you should consider certain basic rules of social interaction apply here as well. You don’t just walk up to two people deep in conversation and tell one his grammar is lacking, do you? Do you approach a stranger just to tell her her hair looks awful? If your answer to both questions is “no”, then you will have no problems here as long as you are civil and contribute to the discourse.

Now, shall we both stop sounding like teachers? ;)

I guess since Obama will now give everyone insurance who can’t afford it, there is no reason to work anymore.  Everyone can take a long holiday and the government will pay for everything, taking as much as they can from people who are actually productive.

This is sickening what’s happening to this country.  I told my fellow Democrats that I can smell a Marxist from a mile away, and Obama is a Marxist.  He will ruin this country, on purpose, if he makes it to the presidency.  Well, are you happy now Democrats?  I guess you are.  I never realized the depth of hatred for the United States the Far Left holds, well, yes I did.  And it’s coming to fruition under Obama.

The only good that will come from this is that the Supreme Court will find all this to be unconstitutional, and not even the tyrant Obama will be able to do anything about it.  It looks like the Supreme Court is our last great hope to save the United States.

Prime Obot — come on back this time tomorrow and let’s see what the numbers are…

  • Cindy

Portia—I’m Episcopalian now…and the formality is more akin to the last church my father was affilitated with for 40 years….More “High Church”(although his earlier chuches were more stereotypical So. Baptist… esp. in Okla. and Louisiana)
Now that my mother, now 88, lives near me in our little town, she goes to the Episcopal church with me. (She and Daddy always loved the Church of England services, when they’d visit over there)
Each time we attend, I tell my mother that I’ll bet Queen Elizabeth sang the very hymns in her church that we sang that day in ours.
That really makes her happy…She LOVES Elizabeth!

  • Cindy

I couldn’t drive by without starting to hum “Climb Every Mountain.”

or—”How Do You Solve A Problem Like Portia??” :)
    Just kidding!

  • Cindy

Senneth—That is fascinating! I believe in the power of postive thinking, as well as prayer (which I think prayer is, sometimes)..although I would never make light of a religious belief–unless it is meant to do harm. That’s different, of course!

  • Babs

16,000 new IRS workers, and what about all the new government workers they will have to hire to oversee the student loan program they’re taking over from the private sector? It’s bad enough the stimulus jobs created were so favorable to the public sector, now we’re adding more public sector jobs to the detriment of the private sector with this student loan take-over. Creating more parasitic Obama supporters one step at a time, that’s the goal.

  • confused American

Could the Hispanic part or the student loan be the encetive for Illinois Congressman Luis Gutierrez’s to go from a “No” vote to a “Yes” vote.

Remember he had two problems with voting ”Yes”  on the Health Care Fiasco.

One was that he was hanging on because he found it unfair illegal immigrants would be forbidden to buy health insurance on new exchanges that would be set up in the bill.

Two was that he was also waiting for President Barack Hussein Obama to honor his campaign promises about immigration overhaul

She should pray to St. Anthony, patron saint of lost items.

He might help her find her LOST brain……

  • prime obot

Well, the Republicans used “deem and carry” about 30 times during the Bush presidency, so it wouldn’t be all that surprising.

  • prime obot

Yes! You’re right! Obama is a fascist who’s going to cancel the elections, declare martial law and round up PUMAs into work camps! Why doesn’t the rest of America realize that?

  • prime obot

I’m just wondering what you will all be saying a year from now, when the bill has become law, its earliest impacts are being felt (seniors getting “donut hole” rebates, sick children not having their insurance coverage dropped, young adults able to stay on their parents’ policies) and nothing else bad has happened. By this fall’s election, I figure approval of the bill will be up to 60% or so, this notion that the nation is being shoved into socialism will have long receded from the public consciousness (the Republican liars will move on to something else horrible to accuse Obama of) and on NQ…what will you be saying? That you somehow understand better than anyone else how terrible health care reform is?

Rev Amy, go tell all the parents of chronically ill children who have had their kids’ policies ripped up by insurance companies that this bill is evil. And then look yourself in the mirror and call yourself a progressive.

  • ~~JustMe~~

cos there all out looking for that pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

Obama is rapidly closing in on Bush Jr. level numbers in the 30′s and there is no way back from that.

I am convinced that with the return of at least a GOP Congress there will be immediate investigations into the gross misconduct behind this bill, as well as other legal breaches, committed by Obama and his political thugs.

I believe there is more than sufficient evidence to brings articles against Obama and with a Senate majority he could be the first to be convicted. I think he would be too arrogant to resign.

  • prime obot

I see, Amy. You believed in Hillary’s health care plan but not this one? Really? And the differences are what exactly?

    The hypocrisy is blinding.

  • Onofre’s arm

Of course Babs, when the gov. takes over student loans, any student accepting those loans will be able to pay them off with a commitment to public service. Will the Universities start to offer Goose Stepping 101?

Ironically, when EVERY high school grad is given the opportunity to attend a college or university, the standards of academia plummet, as should be expected when institutions of higher learning become flooded with mediocre or unqualified students.

Having practised medicine in Europe, French and British systems, I dont hesitate to say that the informations given about our systems and that is good for Germany Artz too, what was given to you was appaling. Fact is Health costs- alot, good results come with a price and whilst America does get results, it could hit better targets if it was better managed. What is a real international problem is the Tort system, this is a universal pestilence brought by US lawyers. nOT MUCH HOPE IT WILL DISAPPEAR
