Calling a Spade a Shovel

Some things in life are inherently funny. Infighting and garment rending are two such hilarious phenomena.

Now comes the Editor the National Enquirer to call bullshit on the ongoing cavalcade of hypocrisy and navel gazing in the MSM. It’s about time. I particularly love this part:

Meanwhile the New York Times was rebuked by its own ombudsman who strongly concluded the paper blew it by not putting enough effort into reporting the (Edwards) story. Yet, Bill Keller, the Paper of Record’s editor, was defiant and still approached the situation with a great sense of ennui, defending his inaction by saying the “hold-your-nose quality about The Enquirer” contributed to the lack of interest by The Times. Others simply relied on standard Elvis-UFO-Aliens-Bigfoot jokes to dismiss the Enquirer’s success in light of their failure.

…When two Georgia men claimed to have found Bigfoot and held a press conference to display the remains, the event was ignored by the Enquirer. Bill Keller’s New York Times ran a straight-faced account, complete with photograph, in the A section.

All the news that’s fit to print? Clueless indeed.

Thank the Lord for David Perel. Go get ‘em.

You didn’t trash Obama in this piece so nobody knows how to respond.

  • Eidnoreid

that’s pretty ignorant and stereotypical, we’re not here just to bash obama, we’re here to criticize the media/msm, as well as the dnc/’new’ democratic party.

Domediagirl, that is so effing funny. How truly that points to the hyporocrisy and self-indulgence of the NYT. I guess the carcass of Big Foot didn’t smell that bad, but hey….National Enquirer, you are Chanel No. 5!

  • Leisa

I love it! The National Enquirer calling out the NYT with on their hypocrisy!

    Thank you for the laugh!

  • Darryl

What makes you think that that wasn’t on purpose.

Maybe we should all cancel subscriptions to the NY Times and subscribe to the Enquirer.

The NE editor’s retort is a total riot.

I guess I will have to look to the National Enquirer for the truth.

    How crazy is that????

  • Lute

Today, instead of giving their readers the truth
about fraud in the caucuses, the NYT picked apart Hillary Clinton.
    Why?
For giving a speech of support for Obama to Floridians.
Somehow, it wasn’t quite “passionate” enough for
    the NYT.
What the f*k is wrong with that paper?

  • tillthen

Yes, indeed. I’m thinking of subscribing! At least, I wouldn’t have to read about garbage like Big Foot.

  • roseeriter

NYT must be run by wussies afraid of Obama bullies- like CNN.

  • slumlord

they’re preparing to blame the Clintons when obama crashes and burns.

  • vinnie

The National Enquirer passed on the big foot story and the NYT ran a story? LMAO! The world IS turned upside down!

Yeah, slumlord, how sad is that.

  • sfhillary

The only thing different about the Democratic Party is that starting in 2006 we started winning elections again. That will continue this year. The PUMAs’ condemnation of the party itself is pretty rich, considering that until early this year, the party’s anointed favorite to win the nomination was Hillary Clinton. Not a single party leader endorsed Obama when the primary campaign began in early 2007, and over one hundred endorsed HRC. But that kind of history tends to get ignored here.

  • Larse12

The media and newspapers are going to go down in History as the biggest joke in the century! The Enquirer will come out on TOP!!!! Only one not in the tank for the almighty Obama. And all the guy is

    Wow, you’re back again!

Frightened, are you, over there in Obamaland?

You only show up here when something awful has happened to the Messiah, after all!

We can only assume that when you come here to snark, ineffectually, this is your way of “kicking the dog” when your boss yells at you at work, eh?

We’re not quite clear on what you’re trying to inarticulately project, though. Do you want to be thought of as a Big, Bold, Brave Boy? An Internet Toughie? Keyboard Commando? Chair Force Commander? Snarkmeister?

Your braggodocio doesn’t mask your fear. I know you tried, oh well. We can smell it from here–it smells like, er, BO.

    Be Very Afraid.

You’re candidate is going down in flames, and you’ve managed to decisively, irrevocably, alienate the only bloc of voters that could put him over the top!

    That wasn’t the ENQUIRER.

It was the GLOBE, of BATBOY fame.

If the Enquirer runs with it, there’s something to it.

My favorite part of that essay:

After the Enquirer’s reports that Edwards had an extramarital affair were finally confirmed by his TV mea culpa, the gnashing of teeth from mainstream journalists was so loud you could barely hear the sobs of everyone who posts for the Daily Kos.

  • sfhillary

You don’t like some of these initiatives, so your solution is to vote for a Republican? You cannot be serious. But of course if you’re a PUMA, that’s exactly what you’re going to do.

In the lawsuit, Berg states that Sen. Obama was born in Kenya, and not in Hawaii as the senator maintains. Before giving birth, according to the lawsuit, Obama’s mother traveled to Kenya with his father but was prevented from flying back to Hawaii because of the late stage of her pregnancy, “apparently a normal restriction to avoid births during a flight.” As Sen. Obama’s own paternal grandmother, half-brother and half-sister have also claimed, Berg maintains that Stanley Ann Dunham–Obama’s mother–gave birth to little Barack in Kenya and subsequently flew to Hawaii to register the birth.

Just like the primary, you are equating local election with General Elections. It is you who fails to see the difference in anything. You’re argument is EXTREMELY Fallicous. You commit many. One is presuposition. 2006 is just 2 years ago, this is not an adequate amount of time to justify any long term pattern, but yet you assume so in your argument. Second is False Analogy. You compare local elections and general elections as being the same. Neither is run the same or voted the same way. They are not related. Third is you call to authority. Calls to authority, such as the leaders support him so you should to, are especially fallicous in elections. The leaders, while they may, and rightly so, elect him as their nominee, has no bearing on the fact that the actual voters will be the ones electing him in the general election.

You FAIL on three accounts in your argument. You have no argument.

Are you ready for the General Election Caucauses? What about that porportional assignment of electorates?

At Rally, Finding Clinton’s Aid to Obama Too Tepid:

In all, Mrs. Clinton mentioned Mr. Obama’s name about 10 times. But at some points she sounded wistful. She pointed out, for example, that it was her third time at Florida Atlantic University as a proxy for a presidential candidate. “I’ve been here three times,” she said. “In 1992, for my husband. In 1996, for my husband” — the audience laughed — “and in 2008, for Barack Obama, the next president of the United States.”

Guy Montes, 63, a retired shift manager for United Airlines and a Clinton supporter in the primary, said later that Mrs. Clinton’s heart did not seem to be in it.

“It was a platonic type of endorsement,” Mr. Montes said. “It wasn’t real love. She’s just doing what she’s supposed to be doing.”

BTW, this is how a truly educated person argues. You learn it in college, it’s called philosophical Logic 101. It teaches you how to build sound arguments’ and how to tell when someone is dumb. This is funny cause I remember going to restaurants early in the primary season and I would ask waiters and such about Obama. I would ask them if they voted. In all cases I would get No, and that they thought Obama was a joke. In all cases they said they don’t worry about it until right before the election.

What we are seeing is simple. The way the DNC has set up their primary has allowed Obama’s popularity to seem bloated. The Porportional and Skewed representation of delegates, made Obama seem more popular than he really was.

As the election gets closer, People are starting to pay attention, and it seems to me that what is happening is that the trend set by Hillary is continuing.

Obama is a failure in the Electorial College. In a porpotional closed democrat primary, He is god, but in a general election, he is not connected with the middle road Americans. We saw the evidence in our primary, but the DNC refused to believe it. They wanted to believe in change. And just like the fool whom believes that their magic beans will take them to riches, the DNC believed in a canidate that was created not on sound General Election strategy, but one that was created through caucuses and a make believe porportional primary.

  • wodiej

well she knows it would be political suicide if she didn’t at least make it look like she supports him. FactCheck.org staffers have now seen, touched, examined and photographed the original birth certificate. We conclude that it meets all of the requirements from the State Department for proving U.S. citizenship. Claims that the document lacks a raised seal or a signature are false. We have posted high-resolution photographs of the document as “supporting documents” to this article. Our conclusion: Obama was born in the U.S.A. just as he has always said.

My tech expert says, “look very carefully at the document. It is the same one “scanned” but the scan is not an exact match. Too much border on the short left side now and too much at the bottom. “Extra paper”. Could it have been a bad scan where the side and bottom were cut off? Perhaps. But now look at the border…it now has a pretty hatch pattern inside another hatch pattern but still has a weakline flaw. Odd that all did not show on a 300dpi scan and still odd there are no matching borders found any place else. I guess we know what Obama was doing in Hawaii on vacation. It also looks like it was printed in an inkjet not a laser (bad pix hard to really tell without seeing it in person and using a 20x loop to see the printing).”

OT but not much Regarding the suit of Berg v. Obama, I checked on Pacer, no records beyond the case being filed, I couldn’t get to todays docket, so don’t know if it being heard/reviewed today; I did find that Berg is the former Deputy Attorney General of Penn; clearly not a fly by night. If I find out anything, I’ll pass it on.

Phillip Berg, the filing attorney, is a former gubernatorial and senatorial candidate, former chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery (PA) County, former member of the Democratic State Committee, and former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania. According to Berg, he filed the suit–just days before the DNC is to hold its nominating convention in Denver–for the health of the Democratic Party. “I filed this action at this time,” Berg stated, “to avoid the obvious problems that will occur when the Republican Party raises these issues after Obama is nominated.”.

Fifty-one percent of the likely voters surveyed thought Obama was too risky, compared with 38 percent for McCain. The Arizona senator had an advantage of 10 percentage points when it came to being seen as a strong leader and having what it takes to be president. When asked which candidate says what people want to hear, rather than what he believes in, 50 percent said Obama; 34 percent said McCain.

Hey, in a real democratic/republic we wouldn’t be given a choice of two selected candidates from a Republican party and a Democratic party. And of the two, there is no dubt that McCain was chosen by the Republican voters, not selected like the Democratic candidate.

The Obama campaign sent an email yesterday that contained the following passage:

From the beginning, this campaign has depended on ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Grassroots supporters like you have brought us this far, but after the convention, we’ll be heading into the final stretch.

That’s why on Labor Day Weekend, right after the convention, we need everyone to take part in a nationwide Weekend of Action.

Barack Obama just returned from a week-long vacation in the tropical paradise of Hawai’i, while millions of regular Americans were working 9-to-5 or longer every day, just like they do the rest of the year.

In fact, according to Obama, America’s economic situation is so poor right now, and people are so “stung by the impact of higher prices for food, gas and health care,” that working families are putting in more and more hours to barelt be able to make ends meet.

However, allowing these regular Americans to enjoy their first chance not at a vacation, but at a three-day weekend since early July, appears to be against the New Order that Barack Obama is trying to impose on America; after all, the cause of electing this New Politician, who will turn us all into New Obamian Men, is too great to allow for people to rest, or take a well-earned break from the grind. That is only for the Leader himself; “everyone” else is directed “to take part in a nationwide Weekend of Action.” Now that sounds relaxing.

This should not come as a surprise to those who have been following the Obamas’ words on the campaign trail. “Barack Obama will require you to work,” Michelle Obama promised us in February. “He is going to demand that you…move out of your comfort zones…and that you engage.

Barack will never allow you to go back to your lives as usual…”

Clearly this transformation is to begin earlier than we ever expected. Americans already work the first three and two-thirds months of the year just to provide tax money to the government (though to the Democrats’ leading Senator, that tax payment is entirely “optional”).

Apparently for the New Obamian Man, weekends are to be “voluntarily donated” to The One, as well.

  • mom2nomads

Okay, I counted 7 personal insults against sfhillary just from his/her initial post. Again, why is it when anyone poses challenges on this board everyone falls back on personal attacks? Why is it that people can’t stick to making arguments based upon facts and ideas? It isn’t about trying to win anyone over (we all know that won’t happen on either side). It is about acting like the adults we are supposed to be and recognizing the fact that people can have a civil exchange of ideas.

Americans complain about negative campaigning, how we wish the politicians would stick to the issues so we could actually learn where they stand and what they plan to do. But everyone in the trenches falls into the same trap as the politicians, eating each alive the minute we don’t all walk in a line. It is the disgraceful reason that we have so many divides in the US and it is nobodys fault but our own (so don’t try to blame it on the politicians).

Barack Obama’s presidential campaign has put the brakes on ads that were running in seven states carried by the GOP in the 2004 presidential election, FOX News has learned.

Of the seven states — including Alaska, Georgia, Montana, North Carolina, North Dakota — Florida and Virginia are considered key battlegrounds this year. Obama’s decision to stop advertising in those states is raising eyebrows.

Aides to Obama told FOX News that the changes are related to the convention next week but they wouldn’t discuss the specifics of their ad strategy.

When Obama’s campaign took over the Democratic Party earlier this year, it embraced Howard Dean’s 50-state strategy, which is aimed at courting Democrats nationwide. The strategy has generated controversy, though, because many Democrats say it wastes money in states where they have no chance of winning.

The shift in strategy comes after Obama and McCain exchanged ads Thursday accusing the other of being out of touch with the average citizen because of the number of homes he owns or the amount of money he has.

    Ok Mom,

We have been duly chastised by you, of course sfhillary has never been bad on these boards…

Do you realize how self righteous and condescending you sounded just now? I do not know how that will achieve your stated goals.

Let us not forget that many Obama supporters find it sporting to come over here and “spar” with us “low info” people… it is their idea of entertainment. It is difficult not to oblige them.

Let me ask you this mom,

If your child brought a friend into your home and that child proceeded to say your house was full of cheap, imitation designer furnishings and you had poor taste, would you feed the child cookies or send him/her to the door?

  • http://liberalrapture.com scott in jupiter

Have to be a bit more careful with their limited cash flow.

Don’t want another PA primary disaster, $10 million on ads for nothing.

  • Leisa

I keep waiting for that video to be made… The morphing of Bush into Obama. Ouch indeed. I saw the similarities as well.

  • mom2nomads

I think I would have a talk with that child about manners. But I can’t exactly tell my kids, or their friends, to behave and play nice if I don’t do it myself.

And I more than realize that there are people on both sides of the divide that are guilty, that is why I did not specify “Clinton supporters” or “PUMAs” because there is plenty of blame to go around.

And why is it condescending and self-righteous to point out to people that personal attacks should be beneath all of us, especially if we actually hope to get anything accomplished?

  • YouGuysAreUnbelievable

Come on now, Dawnelle…you should at least get her name right…

  • nobamaever09

Well, it is time to start be more vocal about Cindy Sheehan in California, who is running against Pelosi. Come on PUMA get busy!!!

  • Leisa

    This bit is interesting

Organizers sought to air the ad on Fox News Channel, but a Fox spokesman said the network declined to run it. He would not say why.

  • YouGuysAreUnbelievable

“and there is absolutely no doubt about her name and her nationality and she is African American so there goes your “racist” theory.”

I’m sorry, but do you have an original copy of her birth certificate in your hands? Otherwise I don’t know how you could make that statement.

Obama is a corrupt and inexperienced candidate.
There is a slim possiblility Obama will win, but it still will not change my mind about him.
I have a feeling that the only people that will change their mind about Obama if he just happens to win are his supporters.

  • momonmynads

It is condescending and self-righteous when you do not include yourself in the group you are criticizing. Not to mention, there are other boards where PUMAs congregate to “accomplish” something. Here is where they come to vent, avoid hearing the customary white-washing of Obama’s dubious record and share new information. Beating up on trolls is sport.

  • mom2nomads

I challenge you to find a a post of mine where I am “attacking” anyone.

And it isn’t desperation at all. Just fixing dinner, checking in, and hoping that I will, one day, discover that there are some people on this board who care more about basic decency and civility than making personal attacks on people who disagree with them. I’m not holding my breath, though.

And, BTW, Barack is going to win.

You’re only supposed to vote ONCE, too. And you are not supposed to scream at people, lock them out of polling places, lie to them and tell them they’re in the wrong place or physically harass them in any way. JAYSUS.

  • mom2nomads

I didn’t include myself because I don’t make personal attacks on people. My bottom line is that I won’t post something that I wouldn’t say in front of my children. Not that I don’t vent to my friends, family, or husband about politics in words that I won’t say in front of my kids but that is personal–this is a public board.

And if this site is just about venting than it shouldn’t be presented as an alternative news source where facts are presented and discussed.

Pennsylvania is a toss up now. (Rendell said he will vote for Hillary at the convention.)

New Hampshire is a toss up. (McCain is well-known in that state, and this was expected. Hillary would have won that state, though.)

    Ground game, dude. Ground game.

HAHAHA…This is the newest fax-blasted talking point. Even Eleanor Clift is clinging to that leaky lifeboat to explain why Obama will win.

It’s exactly like the “cell phone users!” meme that Kerry supporters (and I was one) clung to, convinced that polling couldn’t be trusted because it didn’t include the many, many, many cell-phone users who couldn’t be reached by pollsters and were going to swamp the polling places to vote for a Kerry landslide.

In fact, the O-Team floated the same “cell phone” meme recently, too. Only, urm, except, it turns out that professional pollsters have designed their polls specifically taking that factor into account. OOPS!!

So now we have a new banky to cling to: It’s the ground game!! Uh-huh. Same “ground game” that you had in Pennsylvania? Or Ohio? LOL. The desperation is high, and so is the water.

But I’ve tried that and I get personal attacks and no substance. Why would I go around beating my head against the wall trying to have a substance-based discussion with people who will only respond by calling me an idot because they disagree?

And I’m not lecturing, I’m trying to remind posters that calling people idiots, asshats, etc. is not exactly an adult way to behave and it accomplishes zilch. Maybe it makes the aggressor feel better but I can’t figure out why. It does prove, however, that people are not so much interested in solving problems as just digging their heels in deeper, which is sad.
