OPEN THREAD: Obama’s “Do or Die” [Update]

FROM LARRY: I’m jumping into Brownyn’s thread here. This is such a great cartoon because it captures what is coming down the pike should this turd of a health care bill actually get signed into law. Remember back in the summer of 2008 when conservatives like Christopher Buckley and David Brooks were swooning over the Messiah from Chicago? Then remember their disillusionment when Barack Obama turned out to be just another Chicago political hack? Well, get ready for Deja Vu all over again.

OF NOTE: I switched to C-Span, which is much better than the cable news channels in showing us the actual proceedings. Since there’s a 15-minute break, at the moment (11:44 a.m. PT), C-Span is re-airing an earlier interview.)

UPDATE: Larry called me from the road. He wants to insert these points: The House is likely to vote and pass the resolution, but that’s not the end of it because the bill has to go to the Senate. If the Senate makes any changes, the bill has to go back to the House for another vote. Larry remains stunned that, despite his promises in his State of the Union speech, Obama has ignored the pleas of the American people to focus on jobs, jobs, jobs and, since the SOTU, blown 2-1/2 more months on health care. Larry believes the American people are taking all of this in, and there will be hell to pay come the November elections.

Original Post: Today’s the day. What do you think is gong to happen?

My gut tells me that the Democrats have the votes but are being vague about the real whip count in order to keep wavering House members on their toes. (Even Rep. Bart Stupak is surrendering: “Stupak: We are close to deal with White House.”)

As long as the recent “Yes” converts are led to believe that every single one of their votes is critical to the passage of the bill, they’ll believe that they dare not switch back to “Nay.” (This is pure speculation on my part, but Nancy Pelosi will do whatever it takes to ensure that every one of those House members keep their word that they’ll reluctantly vote for Obamacare.)

I just bumped up two key stories by Larry Johnson and Reverend Amy on Obamacare. You’ll find both stories immediately below this open thread:

  • Hidden Costs Of the Healthcare Bill You Will NOT Believe, by Rabble Rouser Reverend Amy, and

  • House Healthcare Bill, by Larry Johnson.

PLEASE POST any news you hear about the vote count as well as any pundit observations you hear that are of interest.

On Drudge now, there is a head line saying- nan was on the phone with hoyer telling him they needed 217 because no one wants to be the deciding vote. Developing from Drudge.

With Chicago thugs, losing is never an option. This is why I think it’ll pass.
    I want to vomit!

  • Onofre’s arm

That’s the point I made yesterday. If this bill wins, it will only be by two or three votes, none of the Dems supporting this disaster want to be singled out as THE deciding vote, the way Olympia Snowe was rightfully singled out for her terrible vote to move the bill out of committee.

If it loses, by a lucky miracle or several guilty consciences, it will fail by dozens, because if the spineless Dems sense that it will fail, they’ll be like the proverbial rats deserting a sinking ship and vote “no” rather than have their names forever associated with one of the most malicious attacks on our liberties in most of our lifetimes.

Thank you for the good laugh on this day-I really needed it. This bill is so wrong on so many levels. As far as I can tell, only insurance companies and the spendthrift govt benefit. And then there is  the increased scope and power of the IRS.

Yesterday I e-mailed both my rep Bruce Braley and my senator, Tom Harkin to remind them to vote “No”.  This morning the e-mail to Harkin came back.  The mail server gave up trying to make an STMP connection.

That tells me he’s being flooded with communications.  Dems may be saying they have the votes but what’s come out of their mouths recently is more lies than truth.  If they HAVE the votes, why haven’t they brought it to the floor?

This bill as written will truly bankrupt this family-and they call it healthcare for all.

I will never vote for any incumbent, in any party, again. The only real “hope and change” is for the voters to end the status quo. When I saw the same rep overseeing the initial house bill had done the same for the Medicare bill over 25 years ago, I saw clearly what the problem is. Throw them all out- every time.

  • don

After 5/31/008 I vowed I would never again contribute to a political party and would only support individual candidates.  However, I suppose that after today I will feel that I have to support the Republican Party as with all the flip flopping going on I don’t know if we will ever know for sure who did or did not do what on this bill.  Had thought at one time I could probably contribute to the so-called “blue dog democrats” but since they longer exist can’t do that.  Have felt more many years that our elected officials didn’t give a darn what we felt and that they had the attitude that they knew best what was good for us.  Got news for them, I for one will be more than happy to contribute to their being out of a job.

Anyone know of a site that will list the votes, especially those voting Aye??

  • Kathryn421

This bill will bankrupt my family as it stands-while it’s cheerleaders call it a “win”. Unbelievable.

I know on thing-after seeing a rep overseeing the bill in the house last year and hearing he had done the same for Medicare over 45 years ago, I saw the problem clearly. I will never vote for any incumbent again-regardless of party affiliation. Only the voters can bring real “hope and change” to Washington. No 50 year reigns in congress would be a really good start. Thow em all out-every election cycle.

If nobody wants to be the deciding vote, why does anyone want to be a yes vote at all.

If it were a good bill, they should be proud to be the deciding vote.

That translates into they know this bill is a POS, and they know We the People are going to be rightly PISSED come November.

They’ll vote “yes” to keep Nazi P. off of their backs NOW, and place all of their hopes that the anger will die down by November back home. I, for one, will NEVER forget!

Just saw on C-SPAN the Red Queen hooking arms with John Lewis and Steny Hoyer and strolling through the Tea Partiers into the Congress, willl all the COWARDLY Dems following like puppy dogs.  They didn’t have to do this – she wanted to make a point.  She had this HUGE gavel in her hands with this gloating smile on her face and the capital police clearing the way – moving the unwashed masses back.  She likened it to the time John Lewis walked across the bridge in Selma, AL where he was beaten by protesters during the Civil Rights era.  Can you freaking believe it?  I am so disgusted by this woman and these representatives I am sick and shaking, I’m so mad.  The crowd was yelling “Kill the Bill!”  over and over and Nancy was smiling and smiling that sick smile of hers.  The cowardly kitty cats behind her were practically wee weeing their pants, tho.  They didn’t look so smiley.

  • Onofre’s arm

(I posted this under Ryan’s video on another thread, but it fits better here.)

Ryan has a proposal to fix a system (Medicare) that is going to fail in 7 years, it is 38 trillion in the hole with unfunded mandates. He explained it clearly and reasonably in terms that should be understandable to most Americans. With Slaughter at the helm, the Democrats on this committee could do nothing but interrupt, distort, and ridicule, all at the same time that not a single one of them could possibly explain what THEIR bill will do to solve the problem of Medicare bankruptcy.

They can’t explain their bill for several reasons. First, I doubt they have a clue what the effects their bill will have on Medicare. Second, they don’t want to divulge the contents of their bill because they realize that the more WE know about it, the more enraged we’ll be. And third, there’s not a single Democrat with Ryan’s eloquence that could clearly explain something that they themselves don’t understand.

On the broad spectrum issue of healthcare and medical insurance, the Republicans want to address the problems one wavelength at a time. Handled in this manner, it will be much easier to evaluate the effectiveness of each program because we would be able to keep each issue somewhat isolated and definable. This monster bill we’re apparently going to be stuck with, is so broad and far reaching that it will be impossible to demonstrate one way or another, which aspects of it are effective and which are not. While I’m convinced that the WHOLE thing will be a catastrophic failure, the public understanding of the problems will be so nebulous that the asshole Progressives who’ve advocated it, will be able to pin the blame for the failure on, who else, the insurance companies and medical providers in general. This of course will pave the way for them to demand total government control of the entire system, which has been their intention all along.

The Progressive attack on our individual liberties will not stop with the complete usurpation of the medical industry, this is just their biggest and boldest step since Medicare/Medicaid. Education, energy production, food production, housing, etc. will ALL end up in the Progressive’s cross hairs. How marvelous it will be when all of are needs are addressed and provided by those much more qualified to determine what we want and need, than we are ourselves.

Todays vote will be the tipping point that will cause the way of life our founders envisioned for us, to fall off the cliff.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

The Democrats are trying to squeeze this HC Bill under their power in the Commerce Clause, and the Power to tax under the Tax Clause.

Except the tax clause says “shall be uniform throughout the United States”. The kickbacks to states make this bill an uneven apportionment of taxes.

And, the Commerce Clause test fails for many reasons. The main reason is that someone who does not have health insurance is not engaging in commerce, and therefore cannot be regulated.

The Commerce Clause allows Congress to REGULATE health care, but not MANDATE health care. Big difference.

So sad, today a small shift will occur, maybe by a inch or a mile depending on how you look at it. There has been no one listening to the the masses. The Democrats will hopefully learn what happens when they blindly follow Hopey Dopey policy of people like Obama/Pelosi/Reid. They will meet the executioner in the next election.

When Bush beat Gore everyone talked about the death of the Democratic Party. Republicans acted like they could party like their parents were on a year vacation. They could and did whatever they wanted.

When Obama beat McCain everyone talked about the death of the Republican Party. The Democrats are just starting to feel the nasty hangover from that wicked party. The ones that are reviving from their hopium induced comas anyway. Many Dems will never be revived.

What’s Nancy going to do? Force those who vote no to listen to her non-sensical ramblings?  Take them off key committees or refuse to give them money for reelection or maybe send Rahm to go harass them in locker rooms. I bet she’s threatened to withhold money to their congressional districts. Not necessarily withdrawing pork spending but something.  Maybe release the nasty they have on them regarding cheating on spouses or fudging on their taxes, etc.

18 BREAKING: The Hill reports 39 Dem NO votes – BREAKING – http://bit.ly/dd2BZq

They (including BO himself) have been openly saying that dems have to vote for this in order to save face for Obama.  IMO, that’s no different than presidential affirmative action.  I believe in helping out disadvantaged people at a young age, but if you want to go to college, you have to have the brains and the grades, and if you wind up in the oval office, you have to be able to sink or swim on your own!!!!

People often say that America has been dumbed down.  That can’t be denied when it even reaches into the presidency (although I personally believe that started in 2000).

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

That is why I am fully invested in China. At least there is one growing nation that believes in Capitalism.

There is no telling what Obama is likely to do the US. Even if HC fails.

There are 431 members of congress, so the “winner” has to have 216 total.  I don’t know how many are republicans vs democrats.  If someone else does, we can figure out if 38 no from dems is the magic number…

  • jbjd

I HAD to turn off C-SPAN.  My son has to write a paper on the Depression and, knowing PBS has a great segment on American Experience on that period, I watched this with him.  Thank goodness, half-way through, he needed a break.  So, turning up the volume, I resumed C-SPAN to tune in talk on kickbacks.  Rep. Slaughter – can she possibly think she retains ANY credibility after the debacle of her handling of Rep. Ryan’s testimony before the Chair? -  just said, one-state perquisites, while in the bill voted on by the House, will somehow be extended to multiple states before signed into law, so that the enacted legislation will have no single state bonuses.

  • lorac

    You’re such a dreamer  :)

Unfortunately, I already hear accusations being thrown around about someone only being a “RINO” or a “DINO”.  When McCain lost, a lot of people were saying it was because he was a “RINO”.

I think it’s too dangerous to vote for a 3rd party in our current system – it just guarantees the “other side” will win, because it splits your own side.  But if a truly viable centrist party emerged, I’d vote for it, for sure!

  • jbjd

No, that’s illegal.  But the ffecal matter is hitting the fan!  Geesh, it’s what I said!  Now, the R’s are asking, or rather, trying to ask, given Rep. Slaughter’s word that no one state will be favored in the final bill, BECAUSE THE SENATE WILL ‘FIX’ THIS, doesn’t this mean, we will need to re-consider THAT ‘new’ bill? But Slaughter and Jackson, Jr., officiating, will not allow even a Parliamentary Point of Order to be heard!

The Hill has eight Democrats in the undecided/unclear column: Reps Jim Cooper (Tenn.), Kathy Dahlkemper (Pa.), Paul Kanjorski (Pa.), Alan Mollohan (W.Va.), Earl Pomeroy (N.D.), Mike Quigley (Ill.), Bobby Rush (Ill.) and Loretta Sanchez (Calif.).”

Unless they are holding out for more goodies….I can’t believe Rush (especially) or Sanchez are undecided….

It doesn’t give me any comfort in the accuracy of Hill’s report.

We cannot support the whole world, therefore it behooves us to choose first of all immigrants who are not antagonistic towards our culture and mores, those who want to to become part of the fabric of our nation. Confused, I sure don’t remember a time like this.  When there are 38 states that have already begun (or completed, as VA and ID have) legislation to exempt their citizens from a federal mandate, that is saying something.

Amazing it isn’t saying something to the Dems, too, but this is ALL abt Obama’s ego – it has zilch to do with us.  If it did, Obama wouldn’t have kicked it off with his HUGE gift to Big Pharma…

If the adamant pro-choice Democrats still vote Yes on this, we’ll know they have been assured that the Executive Order will in no way, shape, or form, remain intact.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

Don’t forget, the Stupack coalition originally voted YES. So they don’t change anything. There are other Dems that Voted yes, and have committed to NO, or are still uncomitted.

My take is that Stupak knows the bill is not going to pass, so he can now save face by voting yes with the pledge of Obama’s EO.

If the Bill passes, and Obama follows up on the EO, there is still no way to follow the dollars that can go to abortion funding.

If you have a private health plan, subsidized by Obamacare tax credits, there is no way to trace whether your tax credit dollars are spent on Abortion, or the dollar comes out of your pocket. The EO is meaningless.

Stupack needs to be for Healthcare, and be Anti Abortion, so he gets both, and the POS Bill still fails.

The best case scenario for every Dem, except Obama is for the Bill to Fail.

  • daedalus

And what are you gonna do when it does and it passes? Work to repeal it or kick your dog? Shoot your tv? What? Cry? What?

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

What’s changed is that even they woke up to the fact if they are in the middle class they will be “forced ” to ante up 436.00 a month if they belong to the $66,300 a year gross bracket (family of four). And perhaps they finally noticed that they will be fined 2% of their annual income courtesy of the new neighborhood IRS Obama brown shirts if they fail to comply.
Lots of unconstitutional legalities, for one the feds have the right to “regulate” health care, but not “mandate” it to the entire population link it to private companies with financial consequences. Wondering how long Obama will keep his anti-Abortion executive Order

A text of the pending executive order follows:

    EXECUTIVE ORDER

    - – - – - – -

ENSURING ENFORCEMENT AND IMPLEMENTATION OF ABORTION RESTRICTIONS IN THE PATIENT PROTECTION AND AFFORDABLE CARE ACT

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, including the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” (approved March __, 2010), I hereby order as follows:

    Section 1. Policy.
Following the recent passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (“the Act”), it is necessary to establish an adequate enforcement mechanism to ensure that Federal funds are not used for abortion services (except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered), consistent with a longstanding Federal statutory restriction that is commonly known as the Hyde Amendment. The purpose of this Executive Order is to establish a comprehensive, government-wide set of policies and procedures to achieve this goal and to make certain that all relevant actors–Federal officials, state officials (including insurance regulators) and health care providers–are aware of their responsibilities, new and old.

The Act maintains current Hyde Amendment restrictions governing abortion policy and extends those restrictions to the newly-created health insurance exchanges. Under the Act, longstanding Federal laws to protect conscience (such as the Church Amendment, 42 U.S.C. §300a-7, and the Weldon Amendment, Pub. L. No. 111-8, §508(d)(1) (2009)) remain intact and new protections prohibit discrimination against health care facilities and health care providers because of an unwillingness to provide, pay for, provide coverage of, or refer for abortions.

Numerous executive agencies have a role in ensuring that these restrictions are enforced, including the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).

    CONTINUED BELOW:

  • Breeze

    Section 2.

Strict Compliance with Prohibitions on Abortion Funding in Health Insurance Exchanges. The Act specifically prohibits the use of tax credits and cost-sharing reduction payments to pay for abortion services (except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered) in the health insurance exchanges that will be operational in 2014. The Act also imposes strict payment and accounting requirements to ensure that Federal funds are not used for abortion services in exchange plans (except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered) and requires state health insurance commissioners to ensure that exchange plan funds are segregated by insurance companies in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles, OMB funds management circulars, and accounting guidance provided by the Government Accountability Office.

I hereby direct the Director of OMB and the Secretary of HHS to develop, within 180 days of the date of this Executive Order, a model set of segregation guidelines for state health insurance commissioners to use when determining whether exchange plans are complying with the Act’s segregation requirements, established in Section 1303 of the Act, for enrollees receiving Federal financial assistance. The guidelines shall also offer technical information that states should follow to conduct independent regular audits of insurance companies that participate in the health insurance exchanges. In developing these model guidelines, the Director of OMB and the Secretary of HHS shall consult with executive agencies and offices that have relevant expertise in accounting principles, including, but not limited to, the Department of the Treasury, and with the Government Accountability Office. Upon completion of those model guidelines, the Secretary of HHS should promptly initiate a rulemaking to issue regulations, which will have the force of law, to interpret the Act’s segregation requirements, and shall provide guidance to state health insurance commissioners on how to comply with the model guidelines.

    Section 3.

    Community Health Center Program.
The Act establishes a new Community Health Center (CHC) Fund within HHS, which provides additional Federal funds for the community health center program. Existing law prohibits these centers from using federal funds to provide abortion services (except in cases of rape or incest, or when the life of the woman would be endangered), as a result of both the Hyde Amendment and longstanding regulations containing the Hyde language. Under the Act, the Hyde language shall apply to the authorization and appropriations of funds for Community Health Centers under section 10503 and all other relevant provisions. I hereby direct the Secretary of HHS to ensure that program administrators and recipients of Federal funds are aware of and comply with the limitations on abortion services imposed on CHCs by existing law. Such actions should include, but are not limited to, updating Grant Policy Statements that accompany CHC grants and issuing new interpretive rules.

    General Provisions.

    (a) Nothing in this Executive Order shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect: (i) authority granted by law or presidential directive to an agency, or the head thereof; or (ii) functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

    (b) This Executive Order shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

    (c) This Executive Order is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity against the United States, its departments, agencies, entities, officers, employees or agents, or any other person.

In state sanctioned firing squads, one of the rifles is loaded with blanks so that each of the members may make a plausible claim that they were not the one to fire one of the deadly shots. The congressmen who are the 216th and 217th votes will be considered the worst of the lot, so you can be sure those members will be from safe districts like Nazi P’s, or Jim McDumbass’s district in Seattle. The most vulnerable Dems will seek anonymity amongst the crowd of other nervous congressmen by voting early on.

  • BuzzLatte

They’ve gotten what they want….Women have been completely dismembererd by this bill….Welcome to Stupakistan

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

On the whole of the EO, I think it just points to another reason why the Bill is Unconstitutional.

It is not possible to have two laws in effect that have opposing statutes. And an EO cannot correct the statute, only a new law can recind a statute.

The EO admits Obamacare violates the Hyde Agreement.

So, Congress either has to pass a law recinding the Hyde Amendment, or it has to revise the Senate Obamacare bill.

That man is a total idiot, and so is most of Congress.

  • Onofre’s arm

That’s a good way of looking at it oowawa. That’s why hunters wear orange, and why, until recently, Marxists disguised themselves in Progressive camouflage. Now the good guys can all recognize each other, and point our weapons in unison at our Marxist/Progressive targets.

  • confused American

  • Jackie

That cartoon actually doesn’t represent anything remotely related to the health care bill.  Literally no connection at all.  If NQ ever had bothered to even read the healthcare legislation, they might have picked up on that.

  • sybilll

I just looked around at some far left sites, and no one gives 2 shits about the Executive Order.  They know that it might as well have been a blank sheet of paper.  Absolutely meaningless.

  • Jackie

“Women have been completely dismembererd by this bill….Welcome to Stupakistan”

Except that nothing has changed.  The Hyde amendment is still in place, as it has been for decades.  Neither this bill nor the executive order accompanying it affect abortion rights at all.

  • daedalus

You lost. Obama, Pelosi and Reid beat you. They outsmarted and outplayed you. Deal with it. I know it hurts now but take comfort in the knowledge that time heals all wounds.

  • getfitnow

Right. Tell that to the CEO of Catepillar.

  • oowawa

Well Onofre’s arm, I agree with the general thought in your comment, but I am uncomfortable with demonizing the word “progressive,” just as I was uncomfortable with demonizing the word “liberal.”  I don’t know what to call the kind of Marxist/Fascist creatures Thee One represents, but I don’t want to cede the word “progressive” to them.  I am an advocate of “progress,” just as I was an advocate of a “liberal education” and I don’t want to give up these old concepts to this new socialist-fascist ideology manifesting itself in Washington DC lately.  In my mind, they are not “progressive,”  but socialist.  Just a matter of terminology . . .

  • Mary cusack

I’m sure you’ll come back at me with some crushing rhetoric about how we’re all going to die or every Demoncrap will be voted out of office (maybe O’Bummer will even be impeached!) but I’ll be too busy celebrating the upcoming passing of the most significant legislation in 45 years to read it.

In other words, Stupak was going to be a sellout all along, he just wanted his 15 minutes of fame and the promise of a worthless executive order to cover his spineless backside regarding his high fallutin yet phony pro-life position.

I think it would be appropriate for the Dem clowns in congress to pile out of a Mini Cooper, one after the other, when they start to vote on this bill, as this would be consistent with the circus theme they’ve developed regarding the healthcare debate.

Wrong. The bill will pass with a dozen votes to spare. And within a few weeks (or perhaps only days), public opinion will have shifted decisively in favor of this legislation, and this president.

We didn’t die — its only started Over 37 states are rallying for states rights….. Count them and then add in Va and Idaho which already have anti-health care bills

In my lifetime there has never been this many states up in arms against the federal government…(I’m over 60).

The Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act has already been filed or prefilled in 33 states—Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. Lawmakers in an additional four states—Montana, North Carolina, Rhode Island, and Utah—have publicly announced their intentions to file the legislation. A citizen-led initiative has also been announced in Colorado. http://www.news-medical.net/news/20100305/Health-care-freedom-Virginia-first-state-to-pass-legislation.aspx

Grow up? Honey I’m the grown up one here. You evidently don’t have a problem NOW with cheaters and liars as long as it’s your side doing it. I suppose you were against Bush doing it, but now it’s fair. Well let me tell you little girl, I have been against both. It wasn’t right for either side. Talk about fucking growing up, you sound like a little kid complaining to their mommy,,,,” but she did it first”……

  • daedalus

The Republicans weren’t worried about that when they passed Bush’s tax cuts using reconciliation.

  • armymom

You’re right, because this bill is what will cause the sleeping giant to awake and get rid of the socialists. Mess with people’s healthcare and their lives, expect to get hit back. And it won’t be pretty. And that’s not a threat, it’s a promise.

  • BuzzLatte

Oh but you HAVE power because you support DUH ONE?????

Say could you send about 450.00 a month to each of us here because that’s about the out of pocket expense for this lovely piece of legislation per person.  I know I could sure use your money to make the forced payment for insurance.

I suppose you wanted to say “you don’t have to own any stocks”. but even then you are showing that you have got no clue. if there’s no capital going to the companies, there’s no job creation (apart from the federal sector) and without any job creation, there’s no economic recovery…

Peter, with the reconciliation bill taking 3.8 percent of annuities et.al. it may not matter to many of us how much the Market tanks.  If those of us who were thrifty, saving for our retirements, are the ones who pay for the HC POS, why should we not just cash everything in and go out with a bang?

  • Hokma

Obama will reverse the executive order the minute Stupak is voted out of office this fall. Stupak has no principles and sold out.

You guys have no idea how the law works do you? They can only sue if they’ve been damaged in some way. This law will make health care better. These lawsuits are going nowhere. But hey, if grasping at straws makes you feel better, more power to you.

  • sowsear

Remember during the primaries how Bo’s group would always give out misleading numbers, pretending (lying) they had already won.

  • Hokma

Ferd – when Democrats took control of the Congress and then got the Senate and the White House, I said that this was an opportunity – not a mandate – for Democrats to show Americans that they are capable of governing.

The one person who the future of the party rested on was not Obama – it was Pelosi. Unlike former Speakers, Pelosi has proved herself to be a rabid ideologue and not a leader. It was her idea to reboot this healthcare issue after the State of the Union and to not do it with any compromises.

Pelosi is just about to lead her party off a very high cliff.

I cannot tell you how many Democrats I know will not vote for any Democrats this fall.

  • Peter

i would love to see that happen…the market is overdue for another big move on the downside – and i want to cash in again that way…haven’t seen any credible economist who thinks this bill is going to lower the deficit or create jobs…if you think more people should be insured is an ideological question that can and should be discussed. but to think this is in any way or form going to be cheaper or create jobs is just patently absurd…

i would sincerely welcome a minus 400 or 500 point day tomorrow :)

Essentially Obama is doing a line item Veto with an executive order. I agree it could not be legal and I don’t think given his view on abortion he will even follow through on his promise.

  • sowsear

Nothing wrong with this bill that an industrial sized shredder couldn’t fix.

  • Onofre’s arm

Long ago, admitted Marxists called themselves Progressives to keep their activities hidden. THEY are the ones who co-opted the word.

I understand you when you don’t like that word applied to Marxists, but individuals like Prime Obot call themselves Progressives, and they are beyond any doubt Marxists in word and deed. I’m re-reading David Horowitz’s book “Radical Son”, and he provides great detail about the underground Communist/Marxist element that has existed in this country for more than 100 years, and they usually referred to themselves as Progressives, wink, wink.

Years ago, if you were what might today be called a conservative, you might have called yourself liberal, liberals then were advocates for personal liberty, much like today’s Libertarians. The meaning has changed because the word was used by those wearing wolf’s clothing.

I realize that People like Hillary have called themselves Progressives, but she might be well advised to either clearly define what she means by that, or find a better word to describe herself, or she’ll run the risk of being considered a Marxist, even though we know she is not.

When I use the “name” Progressive, I’m describing people like Bill Ayers, Rev. Wright, Obama, Prime Obot, Bernie Saunders, etc., who truly want to drive this country into Marxism and mass slavery to the state. I’m not referring to people who want progress, or who sincerely want the betterment of mankind, I’m not a Luddite after all.

  • daedalus

If you own stock then why would you want the market to tank? I own stock. I want the market to keep going up. You talk about Obama being a socialist. You sound like the socialist. You’re obviously not a capitalist if you want the market to lose 200 points in a day.

You and I know that they will use every rule they can to pass this tonight and deal with the legalities later.

Understanding the basic points in the bill, I cannot imagine the Democratic Party having a majority anywhere in the country by the end of the next two years.

What I most look forward to is the House majority going back to Republicans in 2011 and let the impeachment hearing begin for Obama and others who were complicit in this debacle.

  • BuzzLatte

Daedalus meet Shane below.  You can ride on the bus to the Obama indoctrination camp together this summer.

And unless you have a JD and have worked in the industry for say, 25 years, I wouldn’t be interpreting the worth of lawsuits.  Enron and Bernie Madoff didn’t think they would get caught and Toyota is in the midst of damage control.  Funny how the law and lawsuits work that way.

A capitalist wants the market to go up, up and away? i don’t think so…just stupid fools want that to happen…

a true capitalist believes in the power of allocation of the market. and as this bill is going to enlarge the federal deficit while not creating any jobs, it’s just natural that markets are going to go down. moreover the bill includes taxes on every individual and company in the country. caterpillar estimates it’s going to lose hundreds of millions because of it. it’s obvious that the share price of a company whose earnings take such a hit is going to go down…

this bill is as bad to the economy as one could think. it saps buying power from individuals and it taxes companies. and now you can tell all you want about cbo numbers, the fact alone that the majority of people think it’s going to lower their disposable income is enough for them to limit their spending…BHO is about to initiate Phase 2 of the recession…

Yes, Executive Order, just what the framers of the Constitution had in mind when they set up the separation of powers.

  • oowawa

Here I am, having a semantic discussion with myself.  One of the problems with demonizing the word “progressive” is that the opposite of “progressive” is not “conservative,” but “regressive.”  I think we all want “progress” in a general sense, even if we are “conservatives.”  I don’t want the O Krewe to usurp the concept of “progress” to their faction because they are setting us back and preventing our progress as a nation.  Hmmmm–I think I’ll go lock myself in a quiet place, like the bathroom, and ruminate upon this further . . .

  • daedalus

Suing a corporation or individual is a whole different can of worms than trying to sue the federal government. Good luck with that. I’ll remember to come back to remind you of that when you lose in a couple of months.

Over at Firedoglake, they are LIVID about the EO!  Jane Hamsher especially.  (She is on a roll today, huh!)
    http://fdlaction.firedoglake.com/2010/03/21/white-house-released-executive-order-to-media-without-showing-to-members-of-pro-choice-caucus/

    Here’s a sample comment.
Cynthia Kouril has some serious concerns about the consequence of the EO’s language:
It is unbelievably overbroad. Think about the literal meaning of these words: “Nothing in this Act shall require an otherwise qualified health plan, including an Exchange-participating plan, to cover any items or services to which the issuer, plan sponsor, or purchaser has a moral or religious objection.” [emphasis mine].
Not just abortions, birth control, HIV treatment, tubal ligations, vasectomies, what about circumcisions? Some people think mental illness is actually demonic possession, do they get to opt out? Some people think that drug and alcohol addiction are moral failings, not illnesses—can providers opt out of those treatments?
    [...]

  • creeper

Looks like you got your answer, Peter.  Stupak caved for a promise of an Executive Order prohibiting federal funding of abortions.  So much for principles.

The new democrats made history alright. They just gave up what thousands have fought and died for from the beginnings of this country.
backtrack will sign an excutive order about abortion. How thrilling. Remember when we had 3 separate branches of government?
Today’s government is a bigger threat to the American people than any foreign enemy ever thought of being.

  • oowawa

LOL–I know you’re not a Luddite, Onofre’s arm–you’re a scientist!   I do think that the term “progressive” is just too nice a term for “socialist” or “Marxist.”  It has too many positive connotations to too many people.  That means that in order to use the term to describe a really pernicious social phenomenon, like O and his minions, the word must be demonized in the same way that “liberal” was demonized.  Indeed, Glenn Beck seldom wastes a day without pushing this demonization of the word “progressive.”  If they’re socialists, let’s call them that.  If they’re Marxists, let’s call them that.  Actually, with the pseudo-religious aura surrounding Obama, I don’t think we have a good term for what they really are–it’s a blend of Religious-Socialist-Fascist fervor that is inadequately covered by the term “progressive.”  I guess I’m approaching this more as an English major than a political scientist . . .

  • Onofre’s arm

We’re on the same page oowawa, I don’t like words like progressive being hijacked by forces that don’t actually want true progress of a positive sort. The “Final Solution” may have been progress in a Nazi’s eyes, so all progress is not necessarily positive.

My concern is that since Obama’s election, Marxists like Van Jones are coming out of their closets in droves, they call themselves progressives, and they are actually managing to alter public perception on issues such as socialism and blur the boundaries between private and public responsibilities. If you accurately call them Marxists, they squeal that you’re a John Bircher or a conspiracy nut and use this ridicule to end the exchange. Since I know what they mean when they call themselves Progressives—they’re Marxists—I’ll oblige them and call them what they want to be called, knowing that a rat by any other name, still smells like shit.

  • LarsThorwald

Hear hear.  You can’t reason with tea party folk or the posters here. Facts won’t persuade them, they just scream and call names.

But a vote in which they lose?  They can’t spin that.

  • daedalus

Deep down you know you love Obama. Just admit it and let your hate go. You’ll feel better.

  • daedalus

Ha ha ha! What country do you think this is? 2 terms. That’s all Obama gets. Just 2. But it’ll be enough.

  • daedalus

Fox News knows it’s over. They’re showing the Red River now. They’re not even bothering to show the Republicans arguing against the bill.

  • daedalus

To keep the Dems from taking anymore of their profits away. But it won’t help. In a couple of years, the Dems will pass the Canadian drug reimportation bill and the pharma companies can kiss their outrageous profits goodbye.

  • No Longer an American

America is fucking dead to me.  Maybe I will move to Ireland.  I’m gonna get an Irish flag and had it on my porch.  I am a citizen of Ireland.  I just work in this Cesspool.  You Americans are just a bunch of spinless wimps who actually pissed away your freedom for a plastic Jesus.  You guys are pathetic.  Americans make me vomit

  • Ferd Berfle

Yes, and they’ve amply demonstrated that they are singularly capable of leading. I once had high hopes for Pelousy but they were dashed in short order.

  • armymom

    “notice”

  • sowsear

BO”s got to finish what he was selected bought-and-paid to do, regardless of the consequences.

  • No Longer an American

Mark My words, He will get the amendment to term limits repealed.  Mark my words, he will make sure he is elected when or if we have elections.  Like castso or stalin.  You don’t see this as the end do you?  oh I forgot….he’s YOUR Tyrant.

  • daedalus

Look up Obama’s relatives when you get there. Buh-bye.

  • LarsThorwald

Daedalus, I bet most people here are from my parents’ generation, or a bit younger (I’m 40), and almost all are white and predominatelt female.  Harriet Christian types.  I don’t know what animates the level of hatred I see here.

It’s not based on reason, it’s all fear.  They are afraid they are going to lose a slice, afraid the world is passing them by, afraid minorities are becoming the majority, afraid.

The President is correct.  In a year there won’t be any death panels, no one’s going to lose benefits from Medicare (the life of which is extended by 9 years under the bill), and we won’t be this great socialist/marxist/communist nation.

Those people predicted Ayers would be named Secretary of Education, that Jeremiah Wright would be hanging at the White House, that Obama would make this a Muslim nation, that he would be sworn in on a Koran, etc. etc.  They have been consistently wrong.

Doesn’t matter, because they remain afraid, because Rush and Glenn and Sarah tell them to be afraid, because they have nothing else.

So they will spew their hate.  And they will take the benefits.  And it won’t matter.  Because they will take with the one hand and hold a sign (saying something like “Government Out of My Medicare!”) with the other.

  • armymom

No hate here. Just pointing out the obvious about him. Sorry you’re so thin skinned like him that you can’t understand that. Love, well he has enough of that for himself, he doesn’t need us.

  • sowsear

    Or “undoing”

  • Kathryn421

Thanks for finding that, nice to have names to go with numbers. Too bad some people are to willfully ignorant to acknowledge who really benefits from this latest legislative monster. It isn’t for “the people’s” benefit.

  • Ferd Berfle

Deadhead–there is always the nuclear option–a Constitutional Convention called by the States. You and your slack-jawed, shiftless loafer friends don’t want that scenario, dufus.

  • daedalus

That’s right, he’s my tyrant. Hell, I don’t drink the koolaid, I swim in it first and THEN drink it. This means I’ll be just fine.

But you’ll never go along with the program so yeah, you might want to leave the country.

  • sowsear

Too bad the FEC can’t find out where Bo’s millions in contributions disappeared to or why someone in the AG’s offices couldn’t find caucus and election fraud in 2008..

  • daedalus

I guarantee you, for all the smack you talk here, if you met President Obama the only thing you’d say would be, “It’s nice to meet you sir” Now, what does that say about YOU?

The title at CNN is: Healthcare Showdown. Yeah, right. What showdown? The Republicans got their asses handed to them. That’s not a showdown. The title should be: Repubs get massacred.

  • armymom

Nay, think we’ll stay here and kick some ass at election time.

  • armymom

Wrong again, bi-racial here, just like our POS president, only I don’t blame the side that isn’t black.

  • armymom

And,, there are a few who work in healthcare, doctor offices, hospitals. So I guess we’d know a thing or two about healthcare and how it should be reformed. However, none of us need to play pretend doctors and don white coats. And most of us know for sure that Pelosi, Obama and the others have screwed this country. But hey, you’ll figure it out after it is too late.

  • daedalus

But please keep up all the attacks, pettiness, and name calling on the greatest president you’ve ever seen. Keep it up because with each Obama win, you’re all going to eventually realize just how small and foolish you’ve been.

  • jbjd

Now we know why Charlie Rangel stepped down as Chair of Ways and Means; he said, he did not want to distract from the goal of passing this bill.

  • daedalus

    You don’t benefit?

  • Onofre’s arm

“………..what he does for a living”

    Nice one sows!

  • FrenchNail

WHOH! Have you ever been in China? I mean out of the tourist paths? China is running full speed ahead towards major crisis: Food supply crisis, Infrastructure crisisi, civil unrests….

Trust me I have been there and what I saw pretty much reassured me that they are taking their dreams of dominance for realities. Don’t be fooled.

  • daedalus

Mary Cusack/No longer an American said she was leaving. Talk to her, not me.

  • armymom

You’re dreaming daedalus, the pharma companies own Obama and the others. Must be some good drugs you’ve been taking though to believe that. Better have a gander up above this post to see just how many dems are beholden to the drug and insurance company. And if you think for one minute that they will bite the hand that pays them, you are more ignorant than I first thought.

  • confused American

Last I heard they were looking for a new president of to represent their lonestar Flag.

  • armymom

Oh yea, like he’s really related to any of those people the news keeps saying he is. You have bought everything hook, line and sinker.

  • Hillary or Bust

Daedalus, let me explain something to you. While some of you Obot morons think somehow that you’ve “won” here, you are wrong. I am a life-long Democrat who, even though I was a PUMA and voted for McCain in 2008, still voted Democrat straight downticket for the most part.

Regardless as to whether this health care bill passes or not, I plan on voting straight Republican ticket in 2010. This is unheard of for me.

I will never vote straight Democratic ticket ever again. In fact, I’m not even sure I will vote for ANY Democrat ever again, unless they are super special. I am not turning into a Republican, and will likely vote more third party after 2010, except to vote for whichever Republican runs against Obama in 2012.

Guess what? I am not an old person. In fact, I am still in my late 30s. I have LOTS OF YEARS of voting ahead of me. I have many friends who feel likewise about the Democrats who are MY AGE.

I will not forget what the Democrats did in 2008 to push Obama through, or what they did in 2010 to push this health care monstrosity through. I will NEVER forget. They have lost 20 years of loyalty from me and I will NEVER support them ever again.

Do you understand? You LOSE with this bill. LOSE LOSE LOSE.

And go read firedoglake.com to see how many other Democrats are defecting too.

So gloat all you want. You are just witnessing the self-destruction of the Democratic party today.

  • daedalus

I agree. They come here to lick each other’s wounds and make themselves feel better. With each Obama/progressive victory, they move the goalposts and say, “we’ll get him next time”.

I know I shouldn’t kick them when they’re down. I know it’s primal for them, but they’ve been dishing it out the whole year, so they can take it for a day or two.

  • Donna Brazile

Daediaper: Obama’s ready to change yours!

Momma don’t like ugly. Stop your hate!

  • armymom

Won’t be able to for long. Better check out the taxes backloaded into this bill.

  • creeper

helenk, I don’t think he’ll sign that EO.  I think he purposely wrote it so that it can’t pass any court challenge and will use that as an excuse to live up to the nickname you use so appropriately.

He’s going to throw Stupak under the bus.  Mark my words.  He won’t care what kind of carnage he leaves in his wake, so long as the glory  of Barry is celebrated.

Except it’s not going to be quite that glorious.

  • armymom

    You would be wrong, I don’t lie to anyone’s face. I don’t respect him. He’s a player

  • armymom

Well now see, I was right, you can’t read and comprehend, so therefore you really don’t know what was in the bill other than what you were told. Mary did not say she was leaving the country, you said that she might want to leave the country. Typical, blame someone else for your mistake.

  • HARP

I hope all you people who decided to not support McCain are happy now.

  • daedalus
  • armymom

The man couldn’t put two sentences together if it wasn’t for TOTUS. Jimmy Carter can now be relieved because he doesn’t get the title for the worst president ever, Obama does.

  • FrenchNail

Watch out! Never underestimate the resilience of communism.

Time to really get serious about the eligibility issue. O is NOT a natural born Citizen therefore not eligible therefore anything he signed is void. And for all of you who do not know the issue well and who confuse eligibility and citizenship, I recommand thepostemail.com archives or the Obamafile.com archives. (That site is fantastic but going through some changes on the latest news front)

  • Donna Brazile

    Hey daediaper:

The fact that it took a year with a Dem majority sayz it all.

    Stop the antagonizer fest!

  • sowsear

I don’t waste my time trying to decide whether they are socialists, communists, progressives, or donut holes. When it all falls out, those are distinctions without differences. Whatever they are, they are trying to destroy our government and our way of life. They do not have our interests at heart.

  • confused American

Some have questioned whether the states could sue the Federal Government…Well I’m not a lawyer so I am not up on that.  But the states can call a convention aboutthe constitution.  Seems that in the past when its lost its wind was due to no enough states…Seems that almost 40 states to start with would be enough states…

There have been two nearly-successful attempts to amend the Constitution via an Article V convention since the late 1960s. The first try was an attempt to propose an amendment that would overturn two controversial Supreme Court decisions, Wesberry v. Sanders and Reynolds v. Sims, dealing with voting districts and apportionment of votes in state elections. The attempt fell only one state short of reaching the 34 needed to force Congress to call a convention in 1969, ended by the death of its main promoter senator Everett Dirksen. After this peak, several states rescinded their applications, and interest in the proposed amendment subsided.[11] The next nearly-successful attempt to call a convention was in the late 1970s and 1980s, in response to the ballooning federal deficit. States began applying to Congress for an Article V convention to propose a balanced-budget amendment. By 1983, the number of applications had reached 32, only two states short of the 34 needed to force such a convention.[12] Enthusiasm for the amendment subsided in response to concerns about whether an Article V convention could be limited to a single subject and because Congress passed the Gramm-Rudman-Hollings Act, which required that the budget be balanced by 1991 (but that Act was overturned by the Supreme Court in 1986). • Donna Brazile

Daediaper is a Jonny Come lately to the new Dem party. He’s so naive that he thinks the dems really “care” about people.

Don’t worry he’ll learn (I think). That’s assuming he has a above special IQ.

    Stop the hope fest!

  • Ferd Berfle

The bots have already gotten banners for the occasion, I’m sure, Arabella.

  • creeper

How can people not be sick and tired of all the references to race?  I think Dems are making a huge mistake constantly referring to it.  The sad truth is that many Americans voted for Barry in the hope that electing a black president would finally shut the “racist!” screamers up.  Those voters can’t be happy to find that they’re still racists if they don’t march in lockstep with Barry.

If you weren’t a racist when they started screaming at you about being one, a couple of years of the steady drumbeat would turn you into one.

Nope, all this did was make a steel resolve to go out and vote volunteer, donate money entirely for any other party but a democrat and that’s at the local level as well. This is far from over, so brace yourselves.

  • Donna Brazile

I beg to differ armymom. Obama can put two sentences together, they just don’t make sense or they are unrelated.

If you don’t live in a swing state, then nobody cares how you vote – loser.

Vote #2 in about 45 minutes. You guys still got your tissues ready?

  • sowsear

And as I said before, what do we have to look forward to in the next presidential election cycle if we have to decide between BO and Jindal or BO and Huckabee, or Bo and Rommey, etc. Stink bombs either way.

the look an pee-losis face is priceless…i hope that in the coming days/weeks/months more people have the backbone to tell obama to the face that he is a liar…no need to apologize for telling the truth…

34 states are required. There are no restrictions of the purpose of the ConCon. Since, however, the Congress determines the makeup of the group comprising it, we will have to wait until we throw the current Democrat bums out and THEN call for it.

  • Donna Brazile

    Exactly Diaperhead!

You can’t see it in yourself or you wouldn’t be here. Haters always seek out those in opposition to their views. No one here sought you out hater.

They alreay think Obama did so what’s the point.

your enthusiasm begs one question: what do YOU win from this?

  • daedalus

You gotta watch the whole video. It’s pretty funny.

  • PortiaElizabeth

Harp — I’m a proud PUMA who campaigned for Sen. McCain. And last week I was privileged to meet him, shake his hand and tell him how much I admire and respect him. It was a memorable moment for me to look into the eyes of a man of integrity.
Now, as my mom used to say about Nixon, I say this of Obama: I wouldn’t walk across the street to see him. In fact, I’d turn and walk the other way.

  • sowsear

Now the good guys can all recognize each other, and point our weapons in unison at our Marxist/Progressive targets

Let’s go back to the Irish Blessing that applies:

Yes we can! Yes we can! Yes we can!

  • arabella trefoil

Yes, I forgot that chapter in “Dreams of My Father” about Daddy’s sperm walking arm and in arm right next to Dr. King. Such a moving passage. How did I manage to forget it?

  • Peter

no, i won’t…i think his lying, incompetent behaviour, lack of morals, lack of history knowledge, lack of international politics skills and lack of leadership have nothing to do with the colour of his skin…he is just an empty suit filled with hot air and hopium…

  • armymom

Okay, I”ve had enough. There isn’t one poster on here who believes in that shit. I should know. So take your race baiting ass and leave before you’re just banned. That’s all you guys have and I’m sick of it. Get the fuck over yourselves, get a job, an education or something, but quit claiming victim. No one makes you a victim but yourself.

  • armymom

    Honey, no tissues, just pitchforks.

That’s a pukefest in the making.

She said it down below at 4:46:

America is fucking dead to me.  Maybe I will move to Ireland.  I’m gonna get an Irish flag and had it on my porch.  I am a citizen of Ireland.  I just work in this Cesspool.  You Americans are just a bunch of spinless wimps who actually pissed away your freedom for a plastic Jesus.  You guys are pathetic.  Americans make me vomit

  • armymom

Wow, how old are you, 15? You’d “hit” that. Better go back to school and get an education. A mind is a terrible thing to waste. I bet you impress all the girls with that line, “hit that” Truly pathetic.

  • daedalus

You’re the one who seems worried about it so I guess you’re the one taking a lot of drugs. You don’t want your Prozac and Lipitor medicine prices to go up do you?

Let’s see who won Ohio? That’s right – Obama. Who won Pennsylvania? That’s right – Obama. Good luck trying to stop the Obama Machine.

  • armymom

Nope, he’s ugly, I might put it in my basement to chase away mice.

  • daedalus

I already told you. Not only do I drink the koolaid, I swim in it first. It’s delicious. Almost as delicious as your tears.

  • Ferd Berfle

public opinion will have shifted decisively in favor of this legislation, and this president.
    =====================
    Not likely, MsCleoBot.

  • armymom

Don’t take any drugs, have a great healthcare plan, by union, so this bill doesn’t affect me personally yet, but it will affect my children, grandchildren and yours too, but you’re too stupid to realize that. Hopefully you won’t procreate. We have enough uneducated people in the world like you.

  • Steel Magnolia

    that she lost……

  • daedalus

I have many friends, co-workers, and family members who are all going to win from this. So do you. Your blind hatred of Obama keeps you from acknowledging it.

Example: Kimi Young, 22 year old grad student from Florida contracted swine flu and died from it.  She didn’t seek medical treatment because she didn’t have health insurance, afraid that it would cost too much.

Now kids like her can stay on their parents insurance until 26. If this had been in effect then, Kimi would still be alive.

Now, call Obama a n—-r like you want to.

  • armymom

It’s back to red, check out the polls. People are pissed at him and Strickland. People who normally voted for Dems and work for Strickland, think he’s the worst governor we’ve had. I know, I campaigned for him, won’t be doing it again. Space is toast, which is why he was allowed to vote no. People aren’t buying it. So just keep thinking it’s Obama, it will make it that much easier in 2010

  • Docelder

Well, here is the truth. Washingtin only works for those who pay to play. Every group has their lobbies except for middle class America. So, Washington represents everybody and everything except middle class America. We have two options really. Constitutional convention and start over or buy some damn lobbyists and play politics. We are going to lose the false image we have of our government system either way. Most of us were raised in the American dream and with the belief that our system of government was the best. The actual truth is going to hurt many. This is Barack’s legacy. He didn’t tear us down so much as he exposed the system for what it is. Broken and corrupt. Way to win Barack.

  • armymom

Well as you can tell, I’m not crying, not my type to do so. I don’t get mad, I get even.

  • prime obot

Wanna bet? lol. Go check Gallup. Public opinion began shifting back to Obama as soon as the media started reporting a couple days ago that the bill would probably pass. Frankly, that’s how easily the middle 10% of public opinion is swayed…

  • Ferd Berfle

Your tealeaves have been steeping too long, bothead.

  • Captain Jack Sparrow

Here is my bet. While I am not impressed with this bill. When it is all said and done the majority of American’s will not oppose it. The planet will continue spinning and the 2010 elections  will not be that dramatic. I just do not see this majority everyone is talking about. Otherwise this bill would have died months ago….

As far as as the democrats and republicans go… both should be a shamed of themselves….

  • daedalus

Mmmm. Yummmyyyy! Your tears are so sweeet!!!!!

  • Docelder

This is the blueprint for changing America people. They are on the verge of passing something that 2/3 of America doesn’t want. Next will be the flood of illegal immigrants giving them amnesty. It won’t last because we will go broke as a nation shortly thereafter. Start reading and thinking of how real Americans survived the first great depression. Not how government handled things, but rather how real people made it and were able to survive with next to nothing.

  • Centrocitta

Grow up spoiled Americans.  You’re no longer special.  The Bush Administration made sure of that.  No more hip replacements at age 60.  Use heat, massage and exercise like the rest of the world does.  No more rotator cuff replacements at age 59.  Same thing, heat, massage, exercise.  Be patient and kind to your neighbor.  Get in line because now those sicker than you will go ahead of you.  As it should be!  Remember, Americans, you are no longer special.

  • daedalus

Why stop there? Go grab your Browning and do some real violence like you know you want to.

  • BuzzLatte

You assume too much.  But you did support a third socialist program, so whose the wiser?

    Simply not you.

  • jbjd

Docelder, I agree that we are now compelled to see our government for what it is; but I disagree with your options to address the situation.  We need to understand how our government works better than those who use their superior knowledge of how it works, to usurp our power.  This political education is what I try to provide, on my blog, and what I have been providing since the summer of 2008.  I mean what I say when I say, COUNTRY before CLUB.  Political club.

  • Katmoon

    Puke and Spew.

  • daedalus

Yes, I’m stupid. And pathetic. And you’re arguing with ME. So what does that say about YOU? You should be ashamed of yourself for arguing with a stupid, pathetic kid.

And if you’re hot, I’d hit that, too!

  • BuzzLatte

While that sperm was crawling it’s way into any idiot woman it could find.

Or was it Frank Marshall Davis’ sperm?

I’m sure Obama will release his records to prove he was technically at the march.

  • Docelder

Americans never were special, America was. Emphasis on the was part. Now we aren’t special, we are simply common. There no longer remains that shining place on the hill for the rest of world to see. No, it wasn’t Bush who done it. It was government corruption that done it.

  • armymom

You low life piece of shit, quit the FUCKING race baiting. What part of your dense brain do you not understand. And as far as your friend dying, that’s too bad, really, but sorry at 22, she could still have been on her parents insurance until she was 23 if she was a full time student. And where the hell were her parents? Why didn’t they take care of their daughter. I take care of my children and now you want me to take care of everyone else’s. I also get mad at the fact that you use her as an example, but having college students myself, did she party, use her money for stupid shit and yet didnt pay for healthcare? Did she work, have a job? If not, why not? So your little example doesn’t paint the whole picture. And what the hell happened to having pride in yourself? Stay on your mommy’s insurance until you’re 26? Are you fucking kidding me? When the hell will you cut the umbelical cord? Here’s the problem with that, when the hell will you guys grow up? Geeez I know most of my friends, who have kids in college, expect accountability for their actions. You are advocating no accountability for actions, except to have other people pay for your shit. If I was your momma, I’d dump you off my plan in a heartbeat.

  • BuzzLatte

God, the truth is so hard to spin about the dems.

  • daedalus

Polls had Obama losing two months before the election. He won then and the Dems will win this November, too ’cause you guys are losers.

  • BuzzLatte

    A lyin’ shillerina!

  • sowsear

    Hopefully…

  • BuzzLatte

Just saw the first bid for donations from Stupak’s opponent.  Not a moment too soon.

  • armymom

And I doubt that if she didn’t know enough to get medical help without insurance, she sure hell wouldn’t have gotten with. Also, had she went to an emergency room, she would have gotten help as they cannot refuse it. So go tell that made up piece of shit story to someone else, I don’t believe. Does Obama hand you guys out a book on sob stories and props?

  • daedalus

I guess you better tell your kids and grandkids to join unions too when they grow up!

  • Jillie

in a couple of years, we won’t have democratic majorities.  how quickly we forget virginia, massachusetts, and new jersey.

i happen to live in new jersey.  i voted for christie and his victory was sweet.  victory in november will be sweet as well.

we might feel impotent now, but we will never forget.  i never forgot corzine giving all the state’s delegates to bo, even though hillary won here.  i emailed corzine the day of the vote and said, ‘that was for hillary.’

in november, we can send our own messages to whatever democrat we vote out of office and remind him or her…’that was for healthcare.’  i can’t wait.

  • BuzzLatte

    Ireland needs you.

  • daedalus

Rightttttt. You know you’re thinking of Obama when your husband’s tapping it.

  • BuzzLatte

Uneducated doesn’t begin to describe it.

  • catherine

I’m sure it’s been asked ad nauseum but indulge me please. Why would so many Dems risk their jobs …electons being only 8 months away …for a bill which does NOTHING in terms of real health care reform? Especially when you consider that every poll in this country shows the majority of Americans against it and 0bama’s disapproval rating is higher than his approval rating.

Are they so insulated and completely out of touch with every day Americans that they don’t see the tsunami of voter anger headed their way come November??? Is Pelosi holding something over the No’s who’ve flipped to Yes?

Even if some of them are selling their vote for some sort of deal what good is it if it costs them their job in 8 months? They won’t even be able to enjoy the pyrrhic victory.

I would especially like to know Larry’s take on this.

  • BuzzLatte

Rangel isn’t he another dem that sold his soul to the devil like Stupak today?

  • BuzzLatte

and only got what she did by cheating.  Sounds like our little bot-bot’s kind of person.

  • armymom

Nope, we’re instilling in them that unions suck. They are extortionists. Hopefully they can help to abolish them. Damn its great to raise kids that have accountability and responsibility. Makes a mother proud. And….they aren’t victims, nor do they play one.

  • BuzzLatte

Wow, you first!  All you have to do is fill in the letters you left out.  Go ahead we know you want to since you brought it up!

  • BuzzLatte

Go ahead.  Fill in the letters you are the one bringing it up. Daedaloser.

  • armymom

I guess we’ll wait and see. But I know from working in my office, even those with medicaid didn’t want this healthcare bill and if they did vote for Obama last time, they hate him now. Wait and see. Strickland is out, so is Space and I imagine that Kapur will follow.

  • Peter

if stupak got a 7 digit sum he sure can enjoy this victory…

democrats ARE totally out of touch with the people because they think they know better…just think about obama’s words: he is sad that he couldn’t communicate the positives better (i.e. the people are too stupid to understand it).

the problem in my opinion is that americans won’t vote out all those fools and the country will remain split right down the middle…

obama, the great divider – as if no one saw that coming…

  • armymom

Nope, but as a mother, thought maybe I could talk some sense into you and teach you some respect. I bet your own momma gave up on you too.

  • BuzzLatte

By the way, your supposedly dead friend wasn’t smart enough to find out you can still go to the doctor without insurance?  How stupid was that?

  • daedalus

I hope you feel the same way when something like that happens to your kids. Just sayin’.

  • BuzzLatte

Absolutely – the more the corruption is revealed the more is gets cleaned up.  Bush started the process but Obama will be the posterchild for corruption at it’s finest.

Can’t happen to a nicer more corrupt azzhole than him!!!

  • Peter

well, she was a grad student…you know how smart those are…next generation of cab drivers…

  • Docelder

A “community organizer” being a divider and not a uniter? I never understood why people ever were fooled to begin with. When have “community organizers” ever united disparate peoples together? Never.

  • Katmoon

    Bring it.
You say you’ll change the constitution
    Well, you know
We all want to change your head
You tell me it’s the institution
    Well, you know
You better free you mind instead
But if you go carrying pictures of chairman Mao
You ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow

  • Ferd Berfle

Yep, Armymom, He’s a player and an unrepetant liar. All the blather about transparency was true–he is trasnparently dishonest and his believers are mouth-breathing, slack-jawed rubes still waiting for their car payments and mortgages to covered by their messiah.

  • BuzzLatte

Yeah, especially if they’re the ones buying their degree online.

Seriously, they don’t have what it takes to make it so they need a nanny country.

  • armymom

Died months ago? How many times did it get resurrected? Dems have a majority, in both houses. If it was that popular, it would have been passed way before now. The only reason it took a year was because of the opposition and some dems afraid for their district. They chose to fall on the sword, you will see differences in the 2010 election. When I have medicaid patients telling our office they don’t want this bill, then you have a problem. Why don’t they like medicaid? Because it’s so restrictive. They know rationing when they see it. And now they see an even larger rationing body coming and the IRS involved. Hell no they don’t want this bill

  • armymom

Oh and by the way, It ice, not heat. But then I don’t expect you to know that when you are completely clueless on everything else.

  • BuzzLatte

Next time you need something don’t come whining to America.

  • BuzzLatte

I just saw an ad for Stupak’s opponent.  He,he,heeee!

  • arabella trefoil

    Good night dear friends.

Stay strong and don’t dwell on negative things. I always enjoy your converstion. What a pity we have an unforunate fellow with us tonight who is not only rowdy and rude, but seems to be getting a little unk-dray as the evening progresses. Please, do, take his car keys.

What an unfortunate family he comes from. Ever since his son insisted on waxing up his wings, flying too close to the sun and killing himself in the process, the poor father has lost his senses. Well, let’s not talk about unpleasantness. Even the best of families has its share of unsavory secrets.  The grieving father of the foolhardy boy seems to have formed a bizarre erotic attachment to Obama. I suggest we send the ranting boozehound home in a cab, and perhaps make a few casseroles to put in his freezer. But ignoring this toss pot is the kindest thing. He won’t remember what he said tomorrow morning.

    L’audace! Toujours l’audace.

  • Katmoon

Also wasn’t this swine flu? How does anyone know if she could have been treated? Were there vaccinations on campus, or free, as in most communities: How did they know she had swine flu? Perhaps there was worry over keeping it contained, etc. etc. etc. on the details. If you are going to give an example, give a full one.

  • armymom

You know, I use to believe that Bush’s tax cuts were for the rich and only them, until I went to my accountant this year. BTW, she and her husband were head our county Democratic party. She said that everyone benefited from those tax cuts, more than she ever expected. More so than Obama’s piddly pentence of $400.00. So unless you’re an accountant, I think I will stick with her assessment

  • confused American

Guys guys guys….Let Obots laugh….November will be here soon enough.
Obama is falling in the polls
Reid is fall in the polls

I think if I take a look at almost any other race coming up this year I will find 75% with the Dem behind…

We will celebrate in November and we will celbrate in January of 2011

And if the states get their way we just might get to see a Constitutional Convention while they kick some Federal A$$

Dance Away Obots and Have Your…Enjoy Your New Taxes

  • Hillary or Bust

Ah. We now have some indication as to why Daedulus is such a twit. He’s maybe 23 at best, and a stupid kid too. The irony is that in 20 years he’ll probably be voting Republican because so many idealist young liberals flip flop and turn right once they hit 40.

  • ~~JustMe~~

daedalus if she was a friend why didn’t you help? Worried you may have been stuck with the bill?
Hell you could of sold some of those shares your bragging about.
Yes I’m sure those against the healthcare reform we have witnessed would have stood back and simply watch a friend die. Simply mind-blowing! You even brag about a whole crowd of you could have all chipped in or at least made sure she was taken to the emergency room!

  • Ferd Berfle

Agreed Doc. The dumbing down of America is nearly complete. When the obama/second-coming placards come out, the transformation will be complete. Anyone who believes this bill is going to be good for this country is either brain-dead or a future moocher.

  • Katmoon

How are they going to create cross over medical records information, into the realm of taxes, in order to charge for changes to policy as per this bill ? What happens to the Hipaa Privacy rule, was this also changed in the bill? Can we rescind our Hipaa’s?

  • No Longer an American

America was the only hope this world had to evolve to a higher plain of enlightenment.  Now we are spiraling toward the dark ages.  Man did we blow it.  what a waste

  • armymom

My kids wouldn’t be that stupid not to get help. Did she get the flu shot? See, you lack details and working in a doctor’s office, I call BS. Oh, it sounds like a sob story, but there is a lot of information lacking, just a prop. And I’m sure her death certificate said “cause of death”….lack of insurance. The sad fact is that real people are really dying, but from lack of insurance isn’t a cause of it. You see, illegals are getting all kinds of free treatment, but yet your friend died because of lack of insurance. Get real

  • BuzzLatte

Where do you live so I can send the next fifty homeless people to your house to share your good fortune.

  • armymom

He’s a caring dolt isn’t he? He let’s a friend die because she didn’t have the money, but yet him and his friends didn’t pitch in and get her help. And they think we’re cruel. Who let’s their friend die like that? He probably didn’t want to part with his drinking money.

  • No Longer an American

Obama will be dictator by then.  wait and see.  he is stalin. he is hitler.

  • Katmoon

Ok, you can revoke your Hipaa, but it has to be approved;only current Hippaa’s in place, not past medical history. I will be discussing this with both providers and Physicians.

  • My other site

I think we’ll have a Republican majority after 2010 and they will certainly undo this, even though Obama says it will rank with the passing of civil rights legislation.

  • ~~JustMe~~

armymom worry about your own blood pressure ;)
daedalus is spewing some puddled talking points let him wallow in his own stew.

  • Ferd Berfle

     ”why didn’t you help?”

Because daedalus, being a generation duh obamabot who doesn’t contribute to society in any meaningful way, wants everyone else to take care of problems such as it described so it can still feel comfortable with itself. Such is the life of a leech, sponge, and parasite.

  • My other site

I assume everyone knows that the Reagan amnesty bill only got passed because it had a clause which stated THERE COULD NEVER BE ANOTHER AMNESTY!  The legislation to come out of the U. S. Congress isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.

If this amnesty goes through, the U. S. will become predominantly Mexican.

  • PortiaElizabeth

Don’t forget to “flag” early and often! It’s actually quite satisfying as a way to vent.

  • daedalus

You think about Obama when you’re wife is tapping your butt.

  • ~~JustMe~~

The kids puddled! No two ways about it really =-O

  • confused American

Dems are trying to rank this with other bills the public has been against —
There were not this % of the population against those bills
There were more people from both sides voting on them too
There were not 40 or so states against them either…

  • daedalus

So it’s okay for you to suck at the union teat but not for your kids. Good job there mom teaching your kids to be hypocrites.

  • PortiaElizabeth

Armymom — I have alot of respect for you for trying to “teach a pig to sing”. But as Mark Twain said, it will only frustrate you and annoy the pig. I don’t like to see some little insignificant gnat causing so much aggravation for you. Just “flag” those posts and skip on down to where the interesting comments are. ;)

  • ~~JustMe~~

ohhh thanks for the reminder PE! I will go backtracking lol

  • BuzzLatte

Hey Jackie,  I want to know if you’ll be fat, ugly, and diabetic in five years.  Is that in your crystal ball, too?

  • daedalus

Teach me to be a hypocrite like you teach your kids? No thanks, I’ll pass. But I’ll still hit that if your hot. Hell, I might hit it anyway. Help you relieve some of this stress you seem to be under.

  • armymom

Wow, where did he go? I guess when the going gets tough, and he has to answer for his own actions, he bolts. Typical.  Guess he didn’t have an answer as to why he let his friend die, especially since he claimed to have soooo much money. Stingy sucker

  • daedalus

Come on Buzz. Let it out. Say it… Say it… Here, I’ll help, Niiii….

Yesterday, if you were young and healthy you could decide for yourself is insurance was something you wanted to buy for yourself or not. Tomorrow that same mindset will could get you put in jail. • Docelder

Annenberg isn’t neutral. Anything they say is suspect.

  • lorac

Docelder, I’m trying to think of a good way for Obama to celebrate.  Maybe in front of the Greek Columns again, with a “mission accomplished” banner behind him.  Maybe Pat Racimora, can do it as a cartoon, with people in front reacting, like doctors tearing up their medical licenses, and clinics with signs saying “No Medicare”, and some greedy IRS vulture-types ready to pounce on people with their pockets turned out….

  • ~~JustMe~~

I’ll be quite happy if the whippersnapper has to sell his shares!

  • lorac

You guys, NOW changed leadership a few months back, it was a big upset.  Second wavers took it back from the FallAtBO’s Feet 3rd wavers.  I’m not surprised they expressed upset – it’s now made up of real activists, not women worried about what parties they can get in to.

  • daedalus

BOOYAH!!!!!!!!! Suck on it, losers!!!!! 220-211!!!

They should not have shoved this shit down our throats.
============Or given it to us in a suppository form either. I am not sure ramming it down our throats describes it fairly. Nothing would make me happuier than that constitutional convention. Whatever comes from it, it can’t be worse that this. We don’t have a voice at all anymore. I just saw on the news in Tampa tonight the AG for Florida saying within the hour of this being signed into law, he will sue the federal government. He said it would wind up in the supreme court.

  • daedalus

That’s right. Advocate violence. Just call Obama a n—-r like you want to and say you’re going to lyn-h him. Loser.

I think we are losing it totally. We might go bankrupt as a nation. Because politicians are like tic-tac-toe playing chickens in that you could just as well predict with certainty that they will vote yes by pecking at the corn… This administration can pass anything they want now. Especially since the democrats in ofice already know that they are on the way out. They will want to leave with the most that they can get for themselves before then. I think it will be so severe that it could bankrupt us.

  • FranSC

sybilll – I’m glad you found NQ and better understand why Hillary supporters could not stomach the way this most unlikely POTUS came to be.  I have tried to inform the FoxNews ‘opinion’ people of what went on in the 2008 primaries and as yet have heard nothing about it from Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Karl Rove et al about the cheating, the made-up numbers, the race-baiting, that catapulted this neophyte into this high office giving him the first executive job he’s ever had.

I believe they don’t touch it with a ten-foot pole because they see it as somehow defending the Clintons whom they despise.  But these conservative pundits are doing a monumental disservice to the American people by not investigating how B0 was nominated and elected.   Regardless of who that investigation might point an accusing finger toward or vendicate, all Americans should know this and how we have all been robbed of the most basic of our fundamental rights, and that is, “One person, one vote.”   I will always be a Hillary supporter and know she, in fact, won the nomination but was denied it by the caucus fraud that was sanctioned by the dem party leadership.

  • kgirl1028

stupid question? You won, so why are you being a little shit? Truthfully I htink it’s because most liberal dems are some nasty people, and that’s even more of a reaston people shouldn’t let you anywhere near their personal life and health care. BUt let me warn you of something you little bastard, no body wanted this piece of tripe, but they past it anyway. YOu may drink out tears to day, but in November we are going to bath in you your blood, not just because we don’t agree with you, but because Obama supprters like you, have insulted us one too many times. Now take 2000 + page monstrocity they just passed, shove it up your a$$ and spin.

By the way if i met Obama I would tell him to kiss my black a$$.  I ‘m glad i could clear that up for you. Now come to think of it, I’m not sure how i feel about Obama, but I know one thing, I don’t like YOU! AS for Obama, that  freak is going to make Jimmy Carter look like one of the greatest presidents in american history.

  • daedalus

Greek columns are perfect. This time go full out and wear the toga to go with it. And a fig leaf crown on his head. Biden, Reid and Nanzi should all be there in togas as well. He is their emperor after all. Maybe they could feed a couple of republicans to the lions… or maybe a couple of supreme court judges.

  • daedalus

Too bad he lost. Cause he’s a loser. Kind of like you.

BWAAAAAAAAH HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!! This is just too funny. You just show yourself to be a childish dumb-ass with this comment. Thanks for the entertainment.

PS The fight is not over. Many states are already working to nullify the insurance mandate. So suck on that, bot.

  • BuzzLatte

What goes up must come down, Daedaloser….or is it Icarus….

Nighty night and make sure your mother doesn’t have to pick up that icky sock hidden in your covers.

  • Jillie

you were wrong about the number…you were wrong about the mood..and if you need any help in recognizing reality, i suggest you go over to the fb page of stupak’s opponent, benishek.  he has managed to have over 10,000 people sign up to support his campaign.  this afternoon, i believe he had about 400.

you are wrong. you are stupid.  and you’re an arrogant schmuck to continue to come to a place where you’re not wanted, not listened to, not believed, not logical, not reality based.

  • Cathy in Ks.

Have to agree with you Steel Magnolia.  The more I see Paul Ryan, the more I like him.  My husband and I were just talking the other day about how we could support him if he ran for President.

  • daedalus

    No time for losers…..

  • daedalus

At least Nancy isn’t a loser like you…

  • Onofre’s arm

Yes daedalus, in this instance we’re all losers. WE’RE ALL LOSERS!

At least, intelligent people understand this and realize what we’ve lost. But the true losers are people like daedalus who are so abysmally stupid that they don’t realize what they have lost, or perhaps never had, because they have no moral problem with being a parasite, and they are so pathetically lacking in self worth that they actually enjoy having a whole new government supplied source of hosts to feed on.

  • BuzzLatte

It’s been fun, Icarus, but now it’s time for you to go. And remember:

*What goes up must come down. Including you.  Karma has a tasty little reminder to humble you waiting just around the corner.

    Tick, tock, tick, tock

  • daedalus

    Better than yours, you loser.

  • kgirl1028

Hey guys I just got off the phone with Pinhead, you know from hell, and he said to tell the democrats, that in November, they are going to rip their souls apart. Isn’t that so cute. He also said that nancy pelosi painfully stretched face was not caused by botox as we were believing  he said she’s really wearing someones skin she stole after escaping from hell. Poor liberal democrats they aren’t really going to like it very much when the hooks come flying out of this bill. But hey they just had to have health care reform.

  • prime obot

You’re whistling past the graveyard, Ferd. Not only am I going to be proved right, I think you have no idea how thoroughly I’m going to be proved right. In the space of a year, Obama has stabilized the economy, prepared to withdraw from Iraq, made great strides in winning the war in Afghanistan, and now passed the most significant piece of social legislation in two generations. By this fall’s election, people all over the country will begin feeling the effects of this bill: 20 – 25 year olds who can stay on their parents’ insurance; parents with sick children who can’t lose their insurance; people with preexisting conditions who are protected; seniors who get supported from “donut hole” payments. And you’re still fantasizing that the public will reject this legislation and the Republicans will fight to repeal it?

Let me tell you how it’s going to be: the public will embrace this bill. The Republicans will change the subject. They’ll pick up some seats this fall, but nearly enough to retake either house of Congress. The economy will continue its slow, painful recovery. Reinvigorated Democrats will keep passing important legislation for the next two years. And Obama will coast to a landslide reelection in 2012, probably over Mitt Romney, and, with a little luck, wind up going down in history as not just a good but as a great president.

  • prime obot

Yes, it is a great day. ;)

  • prime obot

I must admit, this is one sentiment I agree with: not that they are thugs, but that when it comes to Obama, the guy does not lose.

    Like, ever.

    Good luck in 2012.

  • beyond_words

Nice link Harp.. Here’s a nice tidbit of that article :

“President Obama’s budget proposal would create bigger deficits every year of the next decade, with the gaps totaling $1.2 trillion more than his administration projects, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office said this month. Publicly held debt will zoom to $20.3 trillion, or 90 percent of gross domestic product, by 2020, the CBO forecast.”

Wow. Just wow. That’s friggen insane…

  • HARP

    Make a mental note . . . oh, I see you’re out of paper!

  • TeakWoodKite

Onofre’s arm, at this point, is it a fair question to ask if you icon is that of the opening scene from “2001 A Space Oddesy”?

I think your comment is spot on.

  • Peter

Bob the builder is a great program ;)

  • lorac

I’m in awe of your wide-ranging vocabulary.  Or perhaps your mental illness causes you to perseverate.

I would suggest you not come back here sober and read what you wrote – because if you have an ounce of decency, you will be very ashamed of yourself and feel very embarrassed.

  • prime obot

This is truly Laugh Out Loud. I’m a Marxist? I want the State to own all the means of production? Just because I voted for Obama instead of Hillary, and because I believe that people shouldn’t be allowed to die for lack of health insurance in the wealthiest country on Earth? How absurd. You drain the term of all meaning by applying it so indiscriminately, and render yourself vulnerable to absurdities like this site’s fealty to Hillary Clinton, who is…what? A Marxist as well? If Obama is a Marxist, she sure is, too. I love how you uncomfortably acknowledge that Hillary calls herself a progressive; in fact, Hillary is probably further to the left than Obama, or for that matter, me.

  • prime obot

I’m wrong, huh? I got told that a lot on this site in 2008, when I argued that Barack Obama wasn’t incompetent, wasn’t unelectable, that Hillary Democrats by the millions wouldn’t abandon him, that Sarah Palin wasn’t going to help John McCain, and that McCain was a weak candidate who would get stomped by either Obama or Hillary in November.

I got quite a bit in 2008 how wrong and stupid I was. And I’ll get told a lot in 2010 how wrong and stupid I am for predicting that this bill would pass, that it will be popular, that its provisions will work, that the Republicans will NOT take either house of Congress this fall, and that Obama will be reelected in a landslide.

Oh, and that America will be left a much stronger, healthier, wealthier country because of his presidency.

  • prime obot

I was a little overoptimistic here, I’ll admit.

  • whoframedrudy

Sounds like deadalus has never had a victory in his own life so he has to celebrate vicariously.

    Nothing. Absolutely nothing.

  • PortiaElizabeth

Fran — you said it better than I ever could’ve! Kudos!

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

How wierd is this – You can no longer say “It’s a Free Country!”. Because now, everyone has to pony up for health care, or pay a fine.

It is a wierd feeling, but temporary for a short time until the Supreme Court overturns this POS Bill.

It kind of like when I took a few weeks off between starting a new job after leaving another one. Technically I was unemployed for those weeks. That was wierd. I felt like I should hang out on the porch in a holely t-shirt drinking malt liquor.

But I played golf in Hawaii instead.

I know Obots will have a hard time relating. To having a job.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

So how many companies with 50 plus employees are going to start laying off or go to part timers to get under the 50 threshold?

How many other companies are going to find it is cheaper to cut health care altogether, save the premium increases and pay the fine?

The problem with Congress is that 99% of them have never had a real job where you have to produce something and make a profit. They think profits just magically show up with no effort.

  • Tex-Mex Soup

the IRS knows straight up who the majority of the illegals are Daisymae, they work with TAX ID’s.  They are registered with the IRS thats how they work in the US.  Sure some still have the invented social but thats old news, they have been working with ITINS for a long time.  Look it up.

  • BuzzLatte

Wait til they go over their benefits packages and find out just how screwed they are or when they go to their job and find out they are being let go because the company doesn’t want to pay their increased healthcare bill.

Reality will bite and it will bite everyone, even the bots.

  • BuzzLatte

“present” is the new work standard set forth by Obama.

  • BuzzLatte

    dreadful little bot, huh.

  • BuzzLatte

  • BuzzLatte

Was thinking the same thing.   Nancy’s due for a pendulum swing.

  • Senneth

I’m a former NOW state president.  I stood up for both Hillary and Palin.  While I supported the current NOW president, she too voted and campaigned for Obama.  I hope she and all the other feminist leaders are very happy tonight.

  • confused American

I’m kind of curious how the states will be handling the “Freedom of Choice in Health Care Act” some where around 40 states have filed, are filing or thinking about it.  Thats enough states to call for an “Article V Convention”

We haven’t had one of those in my life time that should make life interesting LOL

The article Health care freedom: Virginia first state to pass legislation http://www.news-medical.net/news/20100305/Health-care-freedom-Virginia-first-state-to-pass-legislation.aspx

  • Luigi

Holy crap!  What happened to this site?

Look, I felt Hillary got shafted by the Democratic Powers, much like you.  But piling shit cake upon shit cake over the passage of a healthcare bill (yes, any national healthcare bill WILL do, mat this point)?  What happened to you guys?  When did the spaceship leave planet Earth and take you to HateObamaLandAtAllCosts?

For a bunch of seemingly clear thinking, independent people, you seem to have collectively dove off the cliff en masse.  I think he’s something less than a great president as well, but come on, he’s better than the eight years of double digit shit that preceded him.

Yes, I wish HRC was president, but she’s not.  So, in the words of Cher to Nicolas Cage in the movie “Moonstruck”, “Snap out of it!”  This healthcare plan is just the beginning of something very good for many Americans. Stop the histrionics.  Healthcare is very, very broke in this country (and very lousy).  A major change is needed.  The insurance companies need to go find another industry to screw.

All people in America deserve medical coverage.

  • confused American

Since when does adding another few trillion dollars to our deficit not make one think oh crap.  That is just what this bill is doing.

With the CBO numbers, and the 250 billion doctor fix they didn’t add in its over a trillion dollars.(probably a few other hidden expenses in it too which the probably nicely forgot).

When was the last time you saw government $$$ numbers  that were right on or even with a few percentage points. Usually they end up being like only 20-30% of actual cost; thus we now have another few trillion dollars added to our already astronomical deficit.

When did you see such an astronomical bill have to have so much bribery, vote buying, and ???, not to mention so one party partisan. (oh I forgot over 10% of the Democrats voted no too…Why).

So, in the words of Cher to Nicolas Cage in the movie “Moonstruck”, “Snap out of it!”

  • tango

I think even part time employees count. I was discussing it with my husband. We figured if we owned a business that had 45 employees and was growing, rather than hit the magic number of 50 employees and have to automatically offer then health insurance, we’d open a second business doing the same thing as the first and hire the additional people there.

So what’s to stop business owners from having numerous businesses with less than 50 employees all doing the same thing?

  • tango

And how exactly is it screwing insurance companies when we give them millions of new insureds paying them money?  They have a captive audience!  And those insureds who can’t afford to buy insurance on their own get financial help from the governement/tax payers which just adds more and more debt to an already in danger tax base and government.

With Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid all seriously underfunded and on the verge of bankruptcy, why is it a great ideat to add trillions of more dollars to the debt? Do you think ANYONE who doesn’t have health insurance now will miraculously get to keep the coverage they supposedly get from this bill get when this country is bankrupt? No, they’ll be the first dropped since they don’t have any power and money. Doctor Smith will require cash payment or trade like the old days to provide treatment. He’s not going to take a longterm IOU  from the Government and give you a hip replacement or treat your high blood pressure for free.  Not when he needs the cash to pay his bills or feed his family. Pharmacies aren’t going to do it either.  So what does that mean?  Tax raises people – ON EVERYONE who has any sort of income be it from a job, investments, money in the bank earning interest, what’s left by Granny when she dies.

  • kenoshamarge

I don’t think they are “true” Socialists either. I think they are statists.

But you say “pa tay to” and I say “pa tah to”, it still stinks.

  • Docelder

The media this morning almost can’t report this. They have inserted the word “historic” into the word speak to the point that it is comical. If there was any doubt that the same people who write Obama’s speeches are writing for the media… well it is now gone. The same people have to be doing it. Notice how fast the media is dropping the “process” of passing this from the story. No, now it is simply “historic”. They are even talking about Immigration “reform” a bit to ease us into it. I guess “reform” means that there aren’t going to be borders anymore. I guess all of us middle class white people just don’t get it. 100 million new uneducated people who can’t speak English coming in is going to be good for us apparently. Who knew? I guess chickens for sale along main street sidewalks is a good thing apparently. Who knew? Welcome to New America. It isn’t anything like the old one. It is closer to Mumbai actually.

  • tango

Do you think employers will start laying off people in preparation? The feeling being if this is repealed, then they might rehire people but they’d rather be employee lean starting right away to avoid as many tax increases as possible?

    What about the stock market?

  • dormantdem

    I weep for my countray.

  • Athena the Warrior

Me!  Even though my company right now is a start up, rather than hire over 50 employees someday, I will use technology to grow the business and keep the numbers to no more than 30 -40 employees.

  • Onofre’s arm

Yes Teak, it is the manifest moment that the spark of reason inspired a hominid to break out of the instinctual restraints of behavioral predictability. He started thinking outside the box.

“does not lose..”. Because he uses all the dirty tricks he possibly can against his opponents, dating back from Alice Palmer to Ryan to Clinton. Except the one time that Bobby Rush saw through his empty suit and swatted him down like a fly.
