Barack Obama, Coward’s Tour of Afghanistan

I do not begrudge Barack Obama arriving in the dark at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. It makes sense from a security standpoint. But once you are in country you should have the fortitude to treat the visit like Afghanistan is a real country. Barack did not. Sneaking in and sneaking out of Afghanistan projects weakness and cowardice.

I believe our policy in Afghanistan is working, believe it or not. General McChrystal’s leadership is paying dividends, and I was one of his critics at the outset.

So here we have Barry Soetoro Obama’s furtive arrival in Afghanistan. What should he have done?

You don’t force the troops to stay up to 12am in order to provide you a photo op. You don’t require the Afghan government to meet with you at 11 pm at night. Act like you are in charge. Demonstrate through your actions that you are confident that our military is getting control of the battlefield.

But Barry “No Spine” Obama did not do that. He crept into Afghanistan under the cover of darkness and will leave under the cover of darkness. I am not saying we need to give the Taliban his flight schedule. But the video image of this visit does not project strength or inspire confidence. If we are winning and making progress then act like it. Instead, Obama’s actions indicate we do not control the air and the approaches to Bagram. He is suggesting by his actions that the situation is so insecure that his plane will be shot out of the sky.

His appearance before the troops will play well at home, but it portrays an image of weakness to folks abroad.

Simply put, Barack does not have enough common sense to recognize that he’s sending the wrong message.

This creepy midnight visitation reminds me of the visit of another foreboding specter from literature.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while they pondered weak and weary
Over many loving and heartfelt letters from a distant shore,
While they nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As if some one gently rapping, rapping et their barracks door.
“Tis some visitor,” they muttered, “tapping at our barracks door–
Tis that ass Obama, and nothing more.

When they asked him, quite sincerely,
About their home they love so dearly,
“Will we soon return to our loving shore,
And will things be like as before?”
    Quoth Obama,— “Nevermore.”

Bravo, Larry.  And photo op it was.  He’s really embarrassing.  A strong leader would be able to disagree with heads of state without treating them like dirt too…as he did with BiBi.  He acted like a bottom feeder.

  • Guest

As he introduced the different factions represented in the audience – each in turn cheered. When he introduced “civilians” – the loudest cheer arose. Me thinks that the civilians in this audience outnumber troops represented.

Was he there to visit with our troops or to visit with his people…
I am so uneasy that he is in charge of our military. My gut tells me he does NOT have their best interest at heart. I fear for their safety.

It’s difficult to imagine that any young man, knowledgeable in Obama politics, entering  the military w/o trepidation knowing who and what the CIF is.

  • Fredster

Didn’t’ Bush do the same thing one time going to Iraq? Seems he left Crawford in the dead of night, flew to DC and got on the other 747 and went to Iraq unannounced.

I seem to recall seeing something about that on the History channel or one of those.

  • Jack

Axelrod needed a distraction from health care.  Some of the networks were starting to toy with the idea of actually examining what is in the bill.  Keep the clones hopey.

  • Jules

I thought you ran out of straws, but I guess another one came into grasp.
I heard he went over because Karzai got ahold of the Whitey tape.

  • lorac

I guess Afganis are racist, too.

  • lorac

I just heard that Obama is there to tell the Afgani government not to be so corrupt.

Remind me, what color was that pot and kettle?

Nope he just went over because his NCAA teams got beat, a sign of things to come for him….Imagine, all those teams not living up to the “one’s” decree.

He may be flying in and out in the dead of night, but he’s come to save the day . . .

Will be interesting to see what is acutally behind this….With everything else going on everything seems suspect.

  • jangles

I understand he came in to give the Afghan leaders their what fors.  Nice of him to say high to the troops even if it was in the dead of night.

  • jangles

Love that!  Perfect.  Hope that goes viral.

  • Diana L. C.

Though I wasn’t a fan of W, I do believe you are thinking of a time when he did gp for a surprise visit with the soldiers.

“His appearance before the troops will play well at home, but it portrays an image of weakness to folks abroad.”

I have to disagree with you there, Larry. The only ones with whom it will play well her at home are those who haven’t the foggiest idea of what’s going on. I know it disgusted Katmoon and me, particularly since our son leaves for a tour of Afghanistan later this summer. It was nothing more than a photo op for the narcissist in chief.

  • Ferd Berfle

Well, oowawa, while he’s “saving” the day, perhaps he could spare some time to actually do something worthwhile and save some jobs here at home. Oh, that too pedestrian for a man of his stature.

    LMAO

8-)  And what do we expect from Barry? He loves adulation at the expense of the taxpayers. Why can’t he stay in the Oval Office and seriously WORK ? Solve the domestic problems to improve the economy. Gosh, this leader does not seem to understand reality. All he knows is “keep on printing money” & spend, spend, spend. ENOUGH!!!

  • Onofre’s arm

Yes, Bush had Thanksgiving dinner with our troops, who clearly loved him for doing so.

  • Ferd Berfle

There goes That One’s Championship ring. Oh, well, there’s always a World Series ring in his future.

  • Jules

That shit doesn’t even make sense.

  • Onofre’s arm

Another disturbing aspect about his 2:00 AM surprise visit to the troops, is that when our deployed soldiers are aroused in the middle of the night, it’s almost always because of something really bad, it’s very thoughtless of Obama to do that to them. How do you think a soldier standing watch at 2:00 AM in a war zone would feel if Obama sneaked up behind him and yelled “SURPRISE! IT’S ME, YOUR CIC!”

  • Fredster

I just recall seeing a show about AF1 on TLC, History Channel or one of those and they were able to go along on that secret trip.  Of course they had to keep it secret; wouldn’t have been smart to announce AF1 coming in for a landing in Baghdad!

  • steve1

Yes, Larry!  You hit  it right  betw the eyes…Barry Soetoro, at least Hillary Clinton landed in daylight in Kosovo!  Compare Barry’s trip with the one when he spend 3-4 weeks in Pakistan????? Who payed for that trip…if he had scholarships attending Columbia???  How did he finance his Pakistani trip..Oh yeah!  His rich buddy Pakistani  amigos……. He never did explain what he was doing there?? Did he?

  • Ferd Berfle

I agree, OA. It is one thing to keep the trip secret; it is quite another to force the soldiers to remain awake so he can get his mug captured on digital media with them. It could have waited until morning. But then, That One ust have his instant gratification. I’m surprised there wasn’t some ring kissing required. Wow.

In all this our troops were used as a photo op.

  • HARP
  • FLDemFem

There was some “ring-kising” of a sort. As we all know, the American flag dips to no one, ever. However, in other countries, their flags are dipped in salute for foreign dignitaries. I noticed in the photo of Obummer and Karzai that the Afghan flag was dipping in salute for them. I think Obummer enjoys that very much, and after his “tough fight” over health care and the huge outcry against it, he wanted to get some big time validation and so off he went to a country where “his” troops gave him the welcome he thinks he deserves and the local government kow-towed properly to him. He can’t get that here in the US, we don’t bend over that far usually, at least not all of us. So he goes abroad so he can get his fix.

  • IndayHill

:)  Ferd, the country is proud of your son and our troops. May they all be safe and be back home to their families soon.

  • confused American

I bet it never sees the light of day in a major media report….

  • My other site

A stunt worthy of George W. Bush.  When he was in hot water at home, he’d always sneak over to Iraq!

  • My other site

Unfortunately, I think his behavior is that of a Chicago thug.  I’m so tired of the media declaring some great political victory.  Is it a political victory when you’ve pushed some bill through against the wishes of the constituents and you’ve cornered individual Congressmen and threatened them until you get your way?  This is the stuff the Obama people have doing since he announced his candidacy.  Obama gets his way no matter the cost to people of the country.

  • My other site

    LOL!

  • My other site

W and Cheney did this stuff more than once.

  • Ferd Berfle

The Bush administration is part of history now. I’m more concerned with the current invincbly arrogant boob occupying the WH.Whether his stunt was akin to a Bush stunt is entirely irrelevant to the issue at hand, which is That One’s inability to act, much less be, presidential.

  • My other site

Most of W’s trips had to be secret because he was so hated around the world.  Obama must have already fallen into the same category.  I read it was a nightmare for the Secret Service to guard W because people hated him so much there were constant threats against his life.

  • Ferd Berfle

Irrelevant. The argument from common practice does not justify That One doing it. Do try to stay on topic.

  • tango

I feel like he went to visit Afghanistan/Karzai and threw in a little speech to the military since to not do so would’ve been too rude even for the CIC. But I bet he would’ve preferred not to even have any contact with those yuckky soldiers. It’s not like he went over there specifically to spend the majority of his time with the military. They are as usual, secondary.

Here’s a heartwarming story about the “Hug Lady” at Fort Hood.

  • IS IT 2013 YET?

Let’s see…Obama passed Scarycare through a lot of arm twisting, bribes, parliamentary trickery, and partisanship…America STILL doesn’t like it.  Obama got a few days of “bounce” in the polls, that rapidly vaporized.  The majority of America still doesn’t like him.  Then, he pissed of the UK and Israel, making a complete adolescent fool of himself in front of a real leader, Netanyahu.  The economy still isn’t great, and the job reports keep reflecting bad news.  Obama and his irresponsible loons made a lot of mistakes with Scarycare, the CBO estimates were a joke, and now we are being told that he added 8 Trillion Dollars to an unsustainable deficit.  I could go on all day about our unpopular “President’ in communist fatigues.  But, hey, what a great time to go kiss the military’s butt and hope that a pathetic photo op can boost those sinking poll numbers.  Anyone who falls for this BS deserves to live in the banana republic he has created.

  • CruisingVet

Give me a break with the word “Afghanistan is Working.”  WTF is there to work?  Obama’s Afghanistan is pure BS and nothing more.  Using our military for Cannon Fodder like we did in Nam.  Bombing Rubble, terrorizing the poor for nothing.  What is there to gain in Afghanistan except drugs and maybe energy sources?

  • Kbentleyis

Very true, Larry.  We noticed a lot of his cowardice during the campaign when it came to debates.  Always a photo op.

I read an article by some liberal “How Obama Got His Groove Back”.  lol

The only “groove” this spineless fraud has it what he sits on.

  • Kbentleyis

Perfect post Is it 2013 Yet?.  I’m not voting for anyone with a D behind the name.  Only conservative republicans–period.  We all have to work harder than ever come November and 2013.

The Tea Party is working in advance.  Hope you all give a hand and join your local Tea Party.

  • Kbentleyis

Ferd, my son (Marine) just came back last week from Afghanistan–safe and sound.  I say a rosary every day for our troops.

My youngest daughter, (Army), is due to go next summer.  She’s in military intelligence–I know aximoron… lol.

They keep me in a perpetual nervous state, but our children do what they need to do.  I’m very proud.
