Larry,

Thanks for providing the audio link. I can never find the time when the program is aired as that is my busiest time of day. I guess I need to qualify my gratitude, though, because what I heard was not uplifting.

....In that run-on sentence of mine I left a lot of problems out, but I should really thank Larry Doyle. I use his commentary to compare with the "pump monkeys" and the "voices of doom." Unfortunately, Larry seems to be saying much the same thing as the "voices of doom," but in a more tactful way and with some shreds of optimism. We're not quite at "sauve qui peut" and I hope we don't get there...

...I'm not too surprised as this is in line with what I have read on other blogs, using other measures. When you have the combination of deficit spending gone mad, increasing taxes and other charges, high unemployment, "growth" that is fueled only by government spending and pulled forward demand programs (cash for clunkers and cash for appliances) plus maxed out consumer debt, dropping sales tax revenue, "extend and pretend" programs (TARP and HAMP) and a refusal to face the facts (or enforce the existing law) rife in Congress, the administration, the media and much of the public, it is hard to expect much else.

The solutions, of course, are very simple and very painful in the short term. Bring back Glass-Steagall, force the banks to have sufficient assets and declare them, force the regulating agences to do their jobs and prosecute a long list of "congress critters" Probably mostly Dems but certainly a number of Reps and their bankster friends. Ouch! But the alternatives are worse. I think we are in a Depression and we could dick around and create one worse that 1929-1940.
