FOX News Attacked by Recreate68 DNC Demonstrators

Recreate68, AKA 1968 Wannabees, repeat that convention’s violence– and help America be horrified so that they will RUN to the polls to vote against Barack Obama, especially all those “Bitter” hics, you know? Just like 1968. How cool is that?

Keep up the good work! You old hippies who are still on the bong, and you left overs from the Communist party may have bad backs now, but you sure still know how to rile up a demonstration. Thanks for your help!

Now, you had better look out for the ipods of those kids you suckered punched into getting arrested for you. If their ipod gets cracked, they will leave. Oh and when can we expect to see your Body Hammer tricks from your Self Defense Manual? Very cool! (Readers, do not miss the chance to click that link).

Did you happen to tell those kids who are into all this cool days-gone-by excitement that, back on those days, sometimes the National Guard showed up and it wasn’t pretty? Just asking. I suggest you text everybody and let them know, mmmmkay?

Oooooooooo! Is that a Che Guevara poster I see???

The first national poll conducted after Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) chose Delaware Senate veteran Joe Biden shows a tied race between the Illinois Democrat and Arizona Republican John McCain.

A CNN/Opinion Research poll released Sunday finds 47 percent backing Obama, and 47 percent backing McCain.

CNN’s analysis suggests supporters of Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-NY) may be keeping Obama from the lead he might otherwise have. Clinton won 18 million votes in the Democratic primary, and polls have consistently shown that not all of her backers have joined the Obama camp.

“Sixty-six percent of Clinton supporters — registered Democrats who want Clinton as the nominee — are now backing Obama,” the network wrote. “That’s down from 75 percent in the end of June. Twenty-seven percent of them now say they’ll support McCain, up from 16 percent in late June.”

The difference now? Joe Biden. Many Clinton supporters were holding out hope that Obama would name Clinton as his running mate. He didn’t — and moreover, it emerged that he didn’t consider her at all.

“This looks like a step backward for Obama, who had a 51 to 44 percent advantage last month,” CNN Polling Director Keating Holland remarked. “Even last week, just before his choice of Joe Biden as his running mate became known, most polls tended to show Obama with a single-digit advantage over McCain.”

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2008/latestpolls/index.html This is just the RCP link showing that Gallup has it tied, too.

      Verrrry interesting:

“Sixty-six percent of Clinton supporters — registered Democrats who want Clinton as the nominee — are now backing Obama,” the network wrote. “That’s down from 75 percent in the end of June. Twenty-seven percent of them now say they’ll support McCain, up from 16 percent in late June.”

      Thanks for that quote.

Dave Barry had a good take on the convention — sometimes a humorist’s take goes right to the gut:

      http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/dave-barry/story/655722.html

Already there has been sporadic gunfire between the Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton delegates. Political observers see this as indication that there is still some underlying tension between the two sides. Yes, Clinton has been making speeches urging her supporters to work for Obama; but at the same time she has also been using what one Obama adviser described as “a lot of air quotes.”

It’s hard to blame Sen. Clinton for being bitter. Here she is, the smartest human ever, PLUS she spent all those years standing loyally behind Bill Clinton wearing uncomfortable pantyhose (I mean Hillary was, not Bill) (although there are rumors), PLUS she went to the trouble and expense of acquiring a legal residence in New York State so she could be a senator from there, PLUS she assembled a team of nuclear-physicist-grade genius political advisors, PLUS she spent years going around to every dirtbag community in America explaining in detail her 23-point policy solutions for every single problem facing the nation including soybean blight. And after all that, she loses the nomination to a guy who has roughly the same amount of executive governmental experience as Hannah Montana. Hillary is like: “Are you KIDDING me?”

Sen. Clinton is scheduled to address the convention Tuesday night, when she will either call on her supporters to unite behind Obama, or attempt to snatch the nomination and escape with it by helicopter to a secret mountain fortress. ”We are fully confident that Sen. Clinton will do the right thing,” stated a Democratic party official, adding, “but we have a net.”

      • karen for Clinton

THANKS so much for that, I needed a laugh and Dave Barry almost always cracks me up.

They have a net. Now that is a visual.

Dean and Donna running after Hillary.

Hey, it could happen, it isn’t over yet!

      • JS Ruby

Dave Barry’s comments are priceless. Thanks, I needed that too. Hanna Montana ’08.

    • karen for Clinton

Oh now come on Harp. You know there are only 12 Hillary supporters still not in line, and that dozen are all unedjumacated racist republican dead-enders.

So why can’t ob close the deal?

They’ve all been saying there will be unity after the convention. And all I can say to that is PUMA.

      • For Impartial Journalism

Hey, didn’t you get the memo? Today’s Obama word is “bitter-enders”. I guess they didn’t want their supporters to use the “dead-enders” identifier they’ve been hitting everyone with for the last several months.

Now, I’ve heard the “bitter-enders” nomenclature on all 3 cable news nets today so I’m pretty sure it has come straight down in talking points from Axelrove. *rolls eyes*

        • NoBamaNoWay

look on the bright side; that kind of talk creates more “bitter-enders” every day.

        • SqueakyW.

“bitter-enders?” Yep, that’s right. I won’t vote for Obambi even to the “bitter-end.”

Obama dismisses worries about Clinton fallout

DAVENPORT, Iowa – Senator Barack Obama on Monday dismissed concern that any quarreling or hard feelings directed toward him by supporters of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton would damage the Democratic ticket in the fall campaign.

“The Clintons love this country and they love the Democratic Party,” Mr. Obama said. “They are going to be active parts of our campaign for the remaining 70 days.”

FANTASTIC! Thank you Harp for the link and the poll numbers.

Uppity did you see all those small children in that video? Their parents didn’t even attempt to get them back from any danger. What kind of parents are they? Hey kids let’s go commit a crime let Daddy and Mommy show you how to beat up on people using a mob. Always make sure you outnumber your opponent or be quit. Unbelievable!

  • Gianni

I hope they keep acting this way to show the world the kinds of thugs that support Senator Obama.

Well, at least Tom Brokow is finally being honest about the shabby treatment Senator Clinton received during the Democratic primary.

    Brokaw: Hillary’s ‘Unfair’ Treatment

The very sage-like Tom Brokaw, drawn out of retirement at NBC by Tim Russert’s tragic death, thinks press treatment of Hillary Clinton was unfair.

Speaking Sunday at the annual Joan Shorenstein Center lunch for journalists, Brokaw was joined on a panel by Bob Schieffer and George Stephanopolous, while Judy Woodruff moderated.

When the subject turned to how Clinton was treated by the media, Brokaw was forthright.

“The coverage was loaded against her,” he said. “There was too much discussion of her need to drop out of the race. Voters who were passionate about her and waiting to vote for her in primaries [might have been discouraged],” Brokaw said. “I thought it was unfair and inappropriate.”

The famed NBC newsman added: “The fact that she stayed in the race probably made Senator Obama a better candidate.” Brokaw concluded: “I understand why there was unhappiness.”

The Shorenstein Center lunch also addressed issues of sexism, ageism and racism in the current campaign, although with the exception of Gwen Ifill there didn’t seem to be any other African-American journalists in the room.

media coverage was not clinton’s downfall. a dysfunctional campaign was the heart of her problem.

      http://www.politico.com/relentless/relentless.pdf

      • Thinker

a dysfunctional campaign was not the heart of Hillary’s problem, outright voter fraud on behalf of Obama was the problem:

        • CheapEmptySuit

Sure Bot. Every election Obama was in, he not only kicked the person off the ballot and ruined their career, but he used this same line each time. “they ran a bad campaign”.

How does it feel to be backing a crook and a man with not integrity or ethics who’s cheif aim is to get to the top at the expense of everyone? Empty promises is what you are going to get. How’s That FISA vote doing?

No candidate is prepared for having their votes thrown in the trashed and the system gamed like Obama camp did. What do you have to say now?

For the sake of argument, even if we grant your claims about HRC’s “bad campaign”, she still managed to win the popular vote, almost all of the primary states, and the Dem blue states! She’s more respected and loved than ever—and Bambi . . . well . . . he’s losing his manufactured mojo by the minute!

          • dee4hill

Oh, I love that! Manufactured mojo! I’ll remember that one!

            McCain ’08 – Hillary ’12!!!

…and let’s not forget what Patty Solis Doyle did for her campaign. She’s now the political operative and senior adviser to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama. hmmm… how convenient for her… after she help to sink HRC’s campaign before Hillary fired her.

      • Firefly

Yeah right, bot. And whaddya gonna say November 5 when barky’s DOWNFALL is plastered on the front page of every newspaper in the world? When all the world is LAUGHING AT HIM.

Okay – I’ll give you a hint: BARKY IS HIS OWN DOWNFALL – due to lack of character, lack of principles, lack of knowledge, lack of wisdom, lack of soul, lack of experience, lack of qualifications, lack of candor, lack of honesty, lack of decency, lack of compassion, lack of resume, lack of humility, lack of humanity – and, when he needed it most, lack of teleprompter…

        • bwana

if he loses — IF — it’ll probably be because the republican slime machine once again outperforms the dems’.

          • Firefly

If you can’t read, bot, have your mommy read it to you – the reasons he will lose have already been listed above. And the only SLIME here is you.

          • beebop

Read “He ran a poor campaign,” right? Oh that’s right, his highhorseness never misperforms. We were not worthy, right? We did not save him, right? PLEASE. I am so over him that I want to scream. I am even willing to rethink my anti Kay Bailey Hutchinson position not to have to hear him or see him after November 5th EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

          • bemused

You need to go to a dictionary and look up the words “personal” and “responsibility.” This is actually a way of dealing with the world, not always whining that it was someone else’s fault. BS had every chance to work, do good, hang out with nice people, he didn’t. He made his own slime, he slimed himself, it will be the fault of the Obama slime machine, not the Repubs who point out that the emperor is covered with slime.

          • wry

If the dems are “outperformed”, does that mean a “dysfunctional campaign was the heart of their problem”?
            Dumbass

          • tek

I beg to differ. NO ONE could possibly out SLIME Obama. When it comes to slime, he is THE ONE.

      • vinnie

and what is the problem with Barry’s?

        • bwana

with his campaign? overall, not much. a few blips along the way but nothing insurmountable.

        • CheapEmptySuit

I’ll tell you what the problem is…Barry projecting all his slimyness onto his rival as fact. Like on the phone banking calls the voters told me all the lies that Barry told them about Hillary. Most of the lies are too harsh to repeat. But I tell you. These lies he put off onto Hillary is what he himself is guilty of.
May the hand of God be swift in taking down Barry Hussein Obama.

      • J. Smith

“The coverage was loaded against her,” he [Brokaw] said.”

Yes it was, and the media handily ran with BO’s smear campaign and attacks on Clinton’s character. Those were good times for The Hopey-Changey Fraud.

Ah but the chickens…they’re fast coming home to roost.

      • CountryFirst

Wrong, wrong, wrong…in my opinion. She was damned by the media not matter what she did. And I watched the debates too.

      • joseyj

Yeah – Hillary lost because she didn’t round up students in universities in red states and bus them to attend caucuses and vote for her without even knowing her positions on the issues.

      • hank48188

The FIX was in for Obama from Dean, Brazile, and the rest of the DNC. The rules called for Michiganistan and Florida to lose half their votes, Dean took it all instead, they knew Hillary would win big in both states, The DNC was astounded by how many DEMS showed up to vote in a Primary that didn’t count. READ THIS: “WHY AMERICANS HATE DEMOCRATS” How To Tap Into The Obama Factor, by DONNA BRAZILE, Nov. 5, 2004 http://www.slate.com/id/2109328

      • C.S.

Agree. More of a dysfunctional Democratic party bias actually caused her to not get the nomination.

      • tek

Your first election? The media trashed Hillary day in and day out. She pulled her campaign together and won the biggest states and won the popular vote and was winning til the end when the DNC and RBC stole her delegates and gave them to Obambi, but that is all too complicated for the “youth” to comprehend. So just keep telling yourself it was the campaign.

    • http://! Clinton Fan

Funny how it sometimes takes a humorist to get at the truth:

And after all that, she loses the nomination to a guy who has roughly the same amount of executive governmental experience as Hannah Montana.

Agreed, roseeriter. Besides, all the “old hippies” I know–and I’m one of ‘em–are now PUMAs.

And Uppity, you’re waaaay off the mark with all your screeds against Obama’s alleged Leftiness. If he’s a Socialist I’m a Hotentot.

The man’s a Republican/Coporatist Trojan horse, and more and more people are starting to see that (esp. with his choice of Joe Biden, D-MBNA, as vp).

As another poster said not too long ago, this election is now a “heads I win, tails you lose” for the Right.

Thanks, Trixta. I’ve been sounding the alarm on Obama for months now, ever since I looked into his Chicago history and realized who he really was.

It’s v. gratifying to me that more and more people are coming to the same conclusion I did so long ago.

There’s only one party now, the corporatist/big money/Wall Street boys.

The rest of us are PUMAs, or will be. We’re the real Americans now, and I’m very proud of us.

  • Lin

Let me see if I get this straight: Recreate 68 had the opportunity to make comments about MSM, the war, or whatever else is on their minds, and they did nothing but spew inarticulate diatribe? What a waste. I, too, am angry at MSM…but I would not have wasted that opportunity. My mother, a part of the 60s generation, would be disappointed in her peers. The younger ones? They just sounded ill-prepared and wandered aimlessly.

    Nothing to see here.

    • Mandelay

Does anyone know the real story of “recreate 68″? When I checked out their web site earlier in the year, all indications were that they were determined to derail any Clinton support in Denver and would create some rage if Obama were somehow not to get the nomination. Has that changed?

      • http://na TheViking

        You’re right.

I remember ready about that too — I don’t think anything has changed really.

Other than them trying to find a new point to protest about since it seems that Hillary isn’t much of a threat at the moment.

Personally I wish Hillary was/is and will be a SERIOUS THREAT…

    • vinnie

noticed that some brought their kids!!! WTF? Who brings their kids to these things? Sorry, officer, you can’t arrest me ’cause I have to take my daughter home.

And all they can come up with is “Fox is a corporate Whore?” go home already.

      • Liz B

That struck me, too. If you want to make an ass out of yourself that is one thing, but leave that poor kid at home. I am so glad these are Obama supporters, it makes my decision to vote for McCain make so much sense.

      • http://IthinkIfeel... Pat Racimora

Geesh–I noticed that also. A man with a very small child in his arms–what the hell was he thinking????

    • karen for Clinton

yep, in another thread I posted the following this morning. As I was waiting for Uppity to weigh in.

UPPITY could teach their little faux-protesting asses a few things about resistance! Go woman go.

      here’s my earlier post:

The democratic party that I knew is still there. It is just temporarily hijacked by some left wing wankers that are going to burn themselves out on their own hopium hype. They will be shown to be the embarrassment they really are and the truth will come out – it always does.

For more proof just take a look at Denver protesters, if you can stomach it. They don’t even know what the hell they are protesting about and aren’t the least bit organized. Rocky Mountain News site is chuck full of the rubbish of this fiasco.

The videos of the Recreate ‘68 children and adults who should know better are very telling.

They might not have ENOUGH cages when all is said and done. What chaos like this does is counter-productive and the party will not survive and a new party (one of centrist sanity) will re-form.

(I was very involved in organized peaceful protest efforts in the past and all I could think watching this mess was “WE were NOT this stupid.” But I digress.)

They are not making their point, if they even know what their point is, and they aren’t articulating any real change or even issue as far as I can tell. They seem to me to be way too angry and when they do get rounded up, and that has already started, they will be calling their parents to foot their bail.
      some quotes from the protesters:
“what are you protesting?” — “Everything.”
“F#ck Fox news” and “Fox is slander” “F$ck corporate media” “Whose streets? Our streets”
“Impeach Bush” “this is a police state”
“up, up with anarchy, down, down with the DNC”
“End the occupation of Puerto Rico and Hawaii”
“riot for peace” “ we are pro-protesting”

What exactly are they saying? Who knows? The one thing coming through loud and clear, the left-wingers are just as foolish as the right-wingers. And this year the DNC is looking more and more in cahoots with some mighty rabid factions.

There will be change all right. Change to revolt against this revolting spectacle of confusion.

What ARE they saying? Is this the change they are hoping for? Seems they are as arrogant as ob.

      Good God.

      • http://na TheViking

Well said and good use of the word “wankers”!!!

        :)

  • Dr. Kate

There were children in that crowd. People are going to notice.

I hope fox airs that consistently. They will do more damage to barky.

keep up the tactics, thugs. And you’d better not hurt anyone.

    • May

I became physically shaken when I saw this video today…I just wanted to jump in there and grab those kids out of that mess. It’s shameful people would behave with pushing, shoving and cursing with children in their hands. I believe in one’s right to protest, but there are better ways than this to get your message out.

  • CheapEmptySuit

A stolen election is what this is.
I can’t trust the government anymore.

Clinton said part of her job at the convention will be letting those delegates know “that however they decide to vote, we will all be united behind Senator Obama.”

“There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that this is Barack Obama’s convention,” she said, adding that it is only natural for there to be some lingering issues to resolve after a tough primary.

“It would have been the same way if I had won and Barack was here supporting the unity of the party,” she said. “This was a hard-fought campaign and there was a lot of intensity and passion associated with it, in part because of the historic nature of our two candidacies.”

Clinton gives a prime-time convention speech Tuesday night, and the following day will gather her delegates together and publicly release them and urge them to support Obama.

  • Sue

Yeah – seems like they only know how to curse – dumbing down of the educational system and too many stupid video games – this is the future of this country – makes me kinda glad I’m old and I won’t be around forever to see the mess……………..

Even Democrats admit there is bias in the media, especially when it goes against the candidate they were supporting.

The Democratic Governor of Pennsylvania Ed Rendell gave members of the main stream media a tongue lashing, especially those at MSNBC. Rendell’s comments came during what were supposed to be closing remarks at the Shorenstein Center-sponsored panel discussion with the three anchors of the Sunday news shows, NBC’s Tom Brokaw, ABC’s George Stephanopoulous and CBS’s Bob Schieffer.

Rendell called the coverage of Barack Obama “embarrassing,” and accused MSNBC of being “the official network of the Obama campaign.” Let us remind everyone that Ed Rendell is a Democrat. This was the last thing that the Democratic organizers wanted prior to the convention was the Obamamessiah media bias can of worms being opened.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell was supposed to give “closing remarks” during this afternoon’s Shorenstein Center-sponsored panel discussion with all three Sunday show moderators — NBC’s Tom Brokaw, ABC’s George Stephanopoulous and CBS’s Bob Schieffer — but instead, he opened up a can of worms about bias in 2008 election coverage

“Ladies and gentleman, the coverage of Barack Obama was embarrassing,” said Rendell, in the ballroom at Denver’s Brown Palace Hotel. “It was embarrassing.”

All of this occurring the day before the Democratic National Convention begins where the Democratic Party is trying to display “unity”. Good luck to that notion. Rendell, a Hillary Clinton supporter, further went on to say:

“MSNBC was the official network of the Obama campaign,” Rendell said, who called their coverage “absolutely embarrassing.”

Chris Matthews, Rendell said, “loses his impartiality when he talks about the Clintons.”

    • Liz B

I think Chris Matthews can’t be impartial to Hillary or Bill because he’s in love! Eveytime I see that hack going on and on about Barack I just want to call in and say “Get a grip on yourself” he acts like a thirteen year old girl with a crush on the lifeguard at the local pool. MSNBC will be soooo lonely in November. No viewers, No Barack…I can’t wait! Why the thought of it just puts a chill right up my leg, do you feel that way, too?

    • karen for Clinton

      Thank you Ed Rendell.

His support for Hill was straight from his heart.

His comments to USA today disclosing ob’s remarks about only needing the checks and not the donors presence were great.

His HOUND project gave PUMA publicity and was such a faint attempt at countering us.

A year ago I felt that Fox was biases only to the right wing, but to day , I get fair and balance reporting on FOX unlike MSNBC. the worm has turned, and it is, what is.

!) democrats maybe voting for a republican
    2) democrats watching right wing news to get both side of the story

the times are a changing, Scary huh

    • Kelvin Hearts PUMAs

Don’t be fooled. Faux News still loathes the Clintons. They just hate Obama more. But not for reasons you think. Also, it helps the republicans when you PUMAs make asses of yourselves on national television.

Hmmm, we’re not the ones that are caught on camera committing fraud at caucuses. We’re not the ones calling other Dems ‘bitches, whores and the c-word’, and we’re certainly not the ones who placed Barry Soetoro on a pedestal without vetting the guy. so what’s your point again?

        • CheapEmptySuit

PUMAS are not the ones fighting. PUMAS are participating in civilized ways. This is a convention not a war.

      • No Obamislamists

Of course Fox isn’t pro-Clinton, anymore that CNN and MSNBC are pro-Obama.

This is the same media that brought you Bush 2000, Bush 2004 and the Iraq war. Do you really believe they’ve seen the light and are now all about the uber-liberal Obama?

Already Dailykooks are starting to whine about the mainstream media again being unfair to the annointed one. The closer they get to November the worse coverage Obama will get. Everyone could see this coming, well, except the Dailykooks types that circle jerk to Keith Ubermuslim everynight.

      • JayD

All I have learned about FOX is that Obama has leveled the playing field when it comes to republicans and democrats: we are all down in the muck of things together, slopping garbage like pigs at a trough. Hopefully something will grow of the sludge once we all get past Obama. FOX has it’s problems but Obama has sure pointed out the problems of CNN, MSNBC, and the rest of the MSM.

        • Ferdberfle

Oblahblah has taken the neocon low road to its nadir. I guess one cannot argue with success.

  • Thinker

Sugar n spice covered this on her blog, and I’m spreading the word…

We have talked about how Obama tries to be everything to everyone, and now Obama is playing the Asian card:

    http://www.asianweek.com/2008/08/21/desi-obamas-new-race-cards/

At a time when unity among Asian Americans should be key, Obama differentiated South Asians and Pacific Islanders from the broader group and then told a South Asian crowd, “I am a desi.”

Desi, of course, refers to South Asian immigrants, who were plentiful at the big Fairmont Hotel gathering.

What will he say before a group of Chinese who remain on the fence right up to the convention? Or to Filipino, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese,et al?

    • Kay-O

Desi? I thought he was an Indonesian.

      • Hillary the President

Probably he is confused as ususl.

Who in their right minds would want to recreate ’68? Damn, I remember 1968. It was the televised lunacy in Chicago that pretty much assured the election of a classic Right Wing Authoritarian president. Somebody apparently missed one of the main lessons of the ’60s.

Not that I’m a big fan of FOX views. I suppose in their deluded little wannabe brains they’ve at least got one thing halfway right…

    • Mandelay

Yes, I remember it, too, and after seeing two assassinations within an eight week period, and then seeing a convention marked by so much more violence, and remembering it to this day, I also ask who indeed would want to recreate ’68? The recreate ’68 web site earlier this year was pro-Obama and anti-Clinton. Ayers, anyone?

      • anon

        I don’t think Recreate68 is pro-Obama or pro-Clinton, either one.

Judging from their Statement of Principles, their main reason to be in Denver for the convention is to assert their right to be in Denver for the convention, and to nonviolently protest any efforts to prevent them from nonviolently protesting.

They’re “committed to resisting and overturning the system of violence inflicted daily on the people of this country and the world, and against the natural environment, by political and corporate power in the pursuit of profit.”

That’s so damn vague I can’t figure out what they actually have in mind. I suspect they may just be disruptive event organizers, attracted to a place where media attention is focused.

  • harvey

If Denver is afraid there may be problems all they have to do is call in ONE TEXAS RANGER who have been known to single handidly squelch racial riots, earthquakes, hurricanes, toranados, and even DOMESTIC squabbles (the worst of all) LOL!!! And being a republican state they would more than be happy to accomodate Denver in Distress. :)

can’t wait until mccain comes out with caucus fraud ads just to get more clinton supporters on his side. Thanks to you-tube, there is a 100% chance that obama gamed the system. He didn’t even have as many delegates as he said he did. He just counted hillary delegates as his own knowing that no one would ever check the figures. How do we know? Kim Frederick recorded the calls from the obama camp and said the dnc and obama had her as an obama delegate. again, go you-tube her.
Its something watching an african american woman who actually marched with MLK saying she can’t beleive what obama did to hillary supporters.

Another poll on Dem support for Obama:

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-08-24-campaignpoll_N.htm

Poll: More than half of Clinton backers still not sold on Obama

    By Susan Page, USA TODAY
DENVER — Fewer than half of Hillary Rodham Clinton’s supporters in the presidential primaries say they definitely will vote for Barack Obama in November, a USA TODAY/Gallup Poll finds, evidence of a formidable challenge facing Democrats as their national convention opens here today.

In the survey, taken Thursday through Saturday, 47% of Clinton supporters say they are solidly behind Obama, and 23% say they support him but may change their minds before the election.

Thirty percent say they will vote for Republican John McCain, someone else or no one at all.

    • hillarysmygirl

But apparently I’m not alone in SAYING to my husband and friends that I’m voting for Obama in order to keep the peace around here, but I’m actually NOT (see Tina Fey). So maybe that 47% is actually lower? (See Tom Bradley effect)

      • yttik

Excellent point. You don’t win hearts and minds by coercing people’s cooperation.

  • ugo

The Obamacrat has done exactly that during the primary, that kind of rude rally will not work now.

The funny part of it is that they do that, and turn around call you racist if you do not agree with them.

For us it is a news.

  • http://! Buzz Latte

Oh let’s not have 1968 all over again and for the WRONG reasons.

Supporting Obama is like supporting McGovern. Futile and entirely stupid.

I have to agree. I saw the bonfires burn on the Berkeley Campus in 1968. Although, I was little. I knew it wasn’t a good thing. The Chicago riots were nasty.

But those that ID themselves as old hippies are right. These little young ‘uns don’t know dick.

    • harvey

I was around during the 1960s riots. Believe it or not we even had a riot in the US Marine Corps instigated by a black guy they called “Capone” from –yes you guessed it, CHICAGO. Only thing is, where we were at the time, everybody had loaded weapons and it [the riot] didn’t last but a couple of hours. Bunch of drunk Leathernecks. I often think of that when rev Wright’s name comes up. LOL!!

    • bemused

Back in the day, the young hippies could go to the lumber yard and buy dynamite and blasting caps freely. And they had grown up in the shadow of WWII, and through Korea, and Vietnam–though they protested the war, they were brought up on it and were much braver about socking people and getting socked.

      • tek

Were you a young hippie? I wish people would stop making silly statements about how things were in the 60s unless they were actually there. There was no principled reason behind any of the student revolutionaries. They were people just like Obama and his youth. They were jealous of daddy and wanted power NOW! Soldiers stopped the war in Vietnam, not hippies.

        • anon

Bullshit. I was there. Both in the protest lines and in the rice paddies. There was ego behind the actions of some of the anti-war figures, but there was sincerity behind the outrage that the vast majority of the anti-war protesters felt. Immoral men were forcing the youth of America to participate against their wills in something they perceived to be grossly immoral, and occasionally killing them when they objected. By the time it was over, half of America had turned against the policies of their own government.

          • bemused

All of the above were true. :) You know, they say that if you can remember the ’60′s you weren’t really there. ;) I certainly knew some extremely crazy people, some protesters, some who believed J. Edgar Hoover and McCarthy were righteous men—just like now–it’s the whole nine yards. Youth has spotty judgment.

    • maniaco

? … bonfires burning on the Berkeley Campus in 1968?

Maybe to roast marshmallows or to keep warm. I was there. I don’t think THAT happened.

But I do remember a violent explosion one night a few blocks away, and running outside to see a police car up in flames in the Berkeley PD parking lot. And a small crowd already there, chanting “Viva la revolucion!” Wow, how hip was that! BFD I thought, now we’ll have to buy another police car. Some revolution.

I remember being teargassed by helicopter. I remember the campus being shut down for a quarter, but somehow the school kept functioning by offering classes off-campus for credit only (no grades). UC Berkeley was founded in 1868, and it’s still there, by jeezuz, bloodied but not bowed, proud of her tradition.

A physical revolution? People — Maoists and others — tried, but failed miserably. Poseurs mostly.

The revolution was in philosophy, in thought, in the way people were thinking about their lives. That’s where the change occurred, so in that sense, yes, we won.

Yes, I hope Obama’s thugs beat people up, threaten and intimidate newspeople, Clinton supporters as well as innocent bystanders. Apparently, that’s what it will take to expose these jackals. Some blood will have to be shed, some teeth loosened, some arms bruised, some asses hitting the sidewalks.

Please, rough up somebody like Chris Matthews as he walks to the convention center. Threaten and shove Keith Olbermann . . . please do! Cuss out a Clinton lady and get in her face while on camera, yeah, that’s the ticket. Let America watch this in Prime Time. They’ll love it and quickly embrace your Leader, The One.

C’mon, Obama Thugs, step up to the plate! Do your Chicago thing! Caucus violence revisited! Twist arms! Call sa clergyman “motherfucker” on live TV! Go for it!

    Clinton’s Wishes Don’t Spoil PUMA’s Fun

Excerpt: In a flat, windswept part of Denver known, depending who you ask, as LODO, for lower downtown, or RINO, for River North, where the city’s yellow cab company once had their depot and where office and loft space now sit in the middle of parking lots and tall body-dumping grass, the PUMA women, and a smattering of PUMA men, held a premier of the anti-Obama movie, “The Audacity of Democracy.” Under pink and yellow neon lights at the sleek Fuel Café, the group’s organizers offered a respectable spread of sautéed spinach, prosciutto-wrapped dates, seasoned mushrooms, falafel, mushrooms and assorted salads, including one fattened with steak.

The party had a cash bar, but it carried all sorts of top-shelf alcohol served by a handsome wait staff dressed seriously in culinary whites. A large contingent of foreign press, nearly outnumbering the Clinton loyalists, gave the proceedings an even greater air of sophistication.

You mean the ad with the fresh-faced hair conditioner girl doing an impersonation of a Clinton supporter, shilling for the republicans?

          Sorry, ladies.

But if she’s a former Clinton delegate promoting the republican agenda contrary to the expressed wishes of Hillary Clinton, I find it a rather difficult to regard her either as a Clinton supporter or a democrat.

(BTW, I didn’t realize “girl” is taken as a demeaning term, in way that “boy” might be.)

  • Bridgette

This is disgusting. Fox is the only network that DOES report the news.

    • IndianaDem

FOX doesn’t report the news. FOX pushes conservative opinion, which it occasionally illustrates with selected news clips.

      • Pink Panther

You mean like MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC shoving Obama down America’s throat, and occasionally action like news agencies?

        • IndianaDem

Nope. I mean like FOX, which has been turned into a blatant right-wing propaganda outlet in the wake of increasingly lax federal media regulation. FOX news played a significant part in republican efforts to sell the invasion of Iraq to the American people. They’re now trying to destroy Barack Obama.

Genuine news networks don’t have influencing political opinion as their primary agenda. Their primary agenda is to report events. Editorial opinion can be present, but it is clearly separated from news coverage. The distinction isn’t deliberately blurred to the point where it vanishes altogether.

          • HARP

Getting worried about the infallible one huh!

          • Karma

            That is revisionist history.

ALL of the news networks sold the war to the American people.

The only news organization that dared question it was the Knight-Ridder newspapers and they were nailed by other news outlets for it.

Just because some of the news organizations are more subtle about their bias. Doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.

If you aren’t scanning every single thing that media feeds you for bias. Then frankly, no wonder you think that standard only applies to FoxNews.

For example, any fool should know that ABC isn’t going to do an investigative report on Disney being a major polluter because they have corporate ties.

Bias is everywhere in every news outlet.

Someone might want to begin talking about Centrists Democrats who have been shut out of this convention — not just Hillary supporters. And why Hillary is supporting this corruption-engulfed, leftist Nothing is beyond me. It is not being a “good soldier” and it is not “dignified” and it is not “pulling for the party” in my opinion.

People who hold views similar to mine are not only NOT supporting bHo, but we are leaving what used to be the Democratic party in droves. Did anyone ever see where the majority of Americans line up? It is not with the left!!!

Too bad for all those Senate and Congress people and all the other Dem leaders who had to jump on this sure-loser bandwagon — the Dem party is dead. Dems might add a few seats in both houses because of the Bush Admin, but please notice that Dem leadership in the Senate and Congress is abhorred by most Americans. The truth will emerge in the elections ahead.

PUMAs who are mightily courageous are the ones who will offer the leadership for something new.

They will gain 5 in the Senate (because of the seats that are up) and may gain 4-8 in the house.

In my immediate family, there are three of us voting McCain and two voting Obama (the 18y/o and his Dad). The other (90y/o) Grandmother, my daughter and I will be voting McCain. Let’s hope that is a national reflection.

We don’t feel any hesitation at all voting McCain. My daughter and I always have been straight Dem ticket voters and it remains to be seen whether we’ll ever go back.

90 y/oGrandmother always voted Republican anyway (was a close friend of the Goldwater family). She and her friends feel that American values are so deeply ingrained in the majority that it’s silly to worry about an Obama win. They will, of course, vote to shore up that belief.

The Lone Ranger replies, ‘I see millions of stars.’

‘What that tell you?’ asked Tonto.
The Lone Ranger ponders for a minute then says, ‘Astronomically speaking, it tells me there are millions of galaxies. Time wise, it appears to be approximately a quarter past three in the morning. Meteorologically, it seems we will have a beautiful day tomorrow. http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/08/25/chicago-clinton-supporter-obama-mentor-called-me-uncle-tom/

    • Thinker

They can call us Uncle Toms all they want.

If speaking out agains voter fraud on behalf of a Black man makes me an Uncle Tom, then so be it.

      • bemused

Thanks. Of course it’s easy to accuse people of things that can’t be seen, like how they feel about others or their motives. It seems to me the whites have been paralyzed against the racism charge and only blacks can fight back at all. They get accused of being Uncle Tom, but then that shows how much the accusers expect people to react according to appearance, not character, and deflates the accusation. In my opinion.

Who wants to recreate ’68? No one who lived through it that’s for sure. It was a horrible year. Assassinations, riots, Vietnam…

The year 1968 was a lot more than protests, violent or otherwise, at the Democratic National Convention. Do they teach history anymore? I begin to wonder.

    Delegates will not atttend convention

DENVER Hundreds of elected officials and candidates will be among the more than 50,000 people here for this week’s Democratic National Convention.

But not North Carolina’s two most prominent Democratic candidates.

Neither U.S. Senate hopeful Kay Hagan nor gubernatorial candidate Bev Perdue plan to attend. Both campaigns say that, with 10 weeks until the election, there’s too much to do back home.

“North Carolina is a big state, and it’s important that Kay talk to voters from one end … to the other,” says Hagan spokeswoman Colleen Flanagan.

Republicans suggest that the two Democrats are trying to distance themselves from party nominee Barack Obama.

In a state where a Democratic presidential candidate hasn’t won since 1976, Democrats often have seemed to go out of their way to avoid appearing with their nominee. In 2004, for example, both Gov. Mike Easley and Senate candidate Erskine Bowles kept their distance from Sen. John Kerry, who would go on to lose the state to George Bush by 12 percentage points.

OMG they may save their butts here at home afterall!!

To begin with, my opinion about Fox News is no secret. Having worked there my sympathy for them is zero.

Having said that, I’ve also always said that the anti-war demostrators do the cause an immense disservice by allowing themselves and their protests to become umbrella grievance sessions for everyone from the pro-Palestinian crowd to PETA to the Free Mumia folk. What you see as a result is in this video – a collection of incoherent babble presented by a bunch of Haight Ashbury retreads and inarticulate angry kids. What an embarrassing waste of time.

But I do love a good riot.

    • wry

I do have sympathy for the camera men. They tend to be politically neutral working joes.

Anti war demonstrations, in a misguided attempt to be “inclusive”, always open the door for the “Free Mumia” types.

Just read that Mechelle will “humanize’ her husband in her speech tonight. That’s sad–why does he need humanizing in the first place, does that imply that he’s not human? Wow, could these slate reporters be any dumber. yes, they could unfortunately. If he wants to appear more ‘human’ he sure as hell shouldn’t get his wife to do the honors, she needs her own speaker to make her seem ‘human.’ Hey, I didn’t use that word an Obama reporter/minion did.

If a candidate is so badly in need of “humanizing” that it has to take place in prime time on the first convention night, that should be a clue that the candidate is a little short on substance.

They news today was hilarious. I couldn’t stop laughing. They were all hyped up trying to find a good story about protestors. One news guy was following a group of people and whispering “…we don’t really know who they are or what their agenda is, but they have a sign with a Cuban on it so they must be a Leftist group.” (Actually, I suspect they were just a bunch of people on their way to lunch, LOL.) They he got all excited, “I’m getting reports that there is a waterboarding going on right in the middle of the street…hold on people.” When he finally ran the two blocks to the scene he was left staring dejectedly at a little puddle of water. It was just too funny.

I hope everyone stays safe. Tensions and emotions are running high. Please, lets keep the media disapointed. Violence is not the answer.

Why are these protesters at the DNC being compared to communists? Since when are people who are exercising their rights to free speech “Communists”. Just because we don’t agree with their opinions doesn’t make them “communists”.

Freedom of speech is not limited to those who are only in support of Hillary or McCain or any other candidate for that matter. Let’s keep some perspective here.

Freedom of speech is a sacred American right! We should wish to protect these protesters rights to exercise their opinions even if they are abhorrent to others. We must protect FREEDOM OF SPEECH!! No matter what the opinion is!
