Speaking at a forum of ex-world leaders less than a mile from the site of the Democratic National Convention, Bill Clinton drew an analogy that had many wondering whether the former president had made peace with the idea of an Obama candidacy.

“Suppose for example you’re a voter and you have candidate X and you have candidate Y,” Clinton said. “Candidate X agrees with you on everything but you don’t think that person can deliver on anything. Candidate Y disagrees with you on half the issues but you believe that on the other half, the candidate will be able to deliver.”

“This is the kind of question that I predict — and this heas nothing to do with what’s going on now — but I am just saying if you look at five, 10, 15 years from now, you may actually see this delivery issue become a serious issue in Democratic debates because it is so hard to figure out how to turn good intentions into real changes in the lives of the people we represent.”

Whether Clinton, who for 20 years has been the star of the Democratic Party, intended the analogy to represent a futuristic look at presidential politics, its relevance to the current candidacies of Republican John McCain and Obama was unmistakable.

“What his strategy is to go around drumming stuff on Obama, his crazy quotes, and he’s cultivated a careful reputation for being eccentric, and therefore, Hillary is not blamed for what he does … and the result is he can go around and dump on Obama and almost be like a negative Greek chorus,” said former Clinton speechwriter and now-FOX News contributor Dick Morris.

The motive, Morris said, is “to defeat Barack Obama and make sure Hillary can get elected in 2012.”

“I don’t think the Clintons’ feelings would be hurt” if Obama lost the 2008 election, said Republican strategist Chip Saltsman.

Joe Scarborough used to be my representative in Congress. I was working for the Democratic Party at the time, and we hated Joe Scarborough. He’s often a bully and generally arrogant. I don’t know about anyone else, but whether I will vote for McCain depends upon who he selects as his running mate. As hard as it is, I can put aside my differences with McCain on abortion and gay rights, but only because I see McCain as genuinely committed to many other important progressive issues and I believe he is more likely to achieve positive changes with respect to those issues than BO ever could – I am convinced the BO will accomplish absolutely nothing and will cave on all the progressive issues in order to avoid friction. Plus, I think we need a balance and a left leaning president coupled with a left leaning Congress could be a disaster – and I say this even though I am left leaning. But McCain’s choice in a running mate will tell us volumes of what kind of a president he will be – will he lead down the center or will he drift right. If it is center course, then I will vote for him, if it’s leaning right, I probably won’t. But I don’t think I could ever support BO.

Obama and Durbin both took the cash from Exelon and voted for the 2005 DICK CHENEY ENERGY BILL, McCain and Hillary both voted against that rip-off of the taxpayers, Obama sold you out for $269,900 from the employees of Exelon.

Don’t even RESPOND to what they write – that is the biggest INSULT OF ALL – just let them write and all of us act as though it was never posted.

Let’s review.

Hillary Clinton – amid outrage at her behavior – made her concession speech and endorsed Obama five days after the last primary. The way Obama’s fans in the media tell it, you’d think she took months. Compare to 1984, when Gary Hart waited nearly a month to concede the race to Walter Mondale. Ted Kennedy, who in the ultimate act of disunity challenged an incumbent Democratic president in 1980, waited until the convention to concede to Jimmy Carter.

When Kennedy finally did concede, it was barely distinguishable from a temper tantrum. CBS’s Walter Cronkite reported, “Kennedy leaves the stand, sober, unsmiling. There will be no pictures in tomorrow morning’s paper, and none for posterity, of Ted Kennedy holding Jimmy Carter’s hand aloft.”

As Steve Kornacki (one of the few reporters to show an interest in accurate historical analogies this campaign season) aptly pointed out in The New York Observer, when Kennedy and Hart were running much farther back in their bids for the nomination – Kennedy was trailing by 1,000 delegates in ’80; Hart by 600 in ’84 – they didn’t get hit by any serious pressure to drop out.

Clinton, by contrast, was harassed by media to drop out even as she was winning major states and running neck-and-neck with Obama in the popular vote.

When she considered taking the fight to the convention, the idea was greeted with disbelief that she’d be so selfish. Yet Hart and Kennedy both fought on at the convention; Kennedy only conceded after failing to change party rules to his favor. It’s this double standard that so enrages Hillary supporters.

Obama supporters and party leaders continue to insult Hillary voters – and then seem shocked when so many of them say they’re going to vote Republican this year.

Nancy Pelosi, underscoring why Congress under her leadership has an approval rating teetering on single digits, lectured female Hillary supporters in an interview this week – telling them to not wallow in defeat. Said the multimillionairess daughter of privilege: “I think that women, we have to get away from the politics of victim. This is about you go out there and you fight.”

Thanks, Nancy. I’m sure all the working-class women who supported Hillary didn’t realize that the real problem is they need to get off their butts and “go out there and fight.” But now they know that being disappointed that their candidate didn’t win – an emotion plenty of men like, say, Ted Kennedy supporters in 1980 have experienced – is actually just being a whiny “victim.”

This is why John McCain stands at the ready to scoop up any disaffected Clinton supporters. ….

I agree with your assessment of my favorite pundit, “Morning Joe.” I also agree with others that Mika is not only a distraction throughout the program, but is inappropriate in her fawning over EVERYONE, physically hugging, kissing astonished guests, and, in general, acting like a star-struck schoolgirl. I can only watch it with the sound off and closed caption on, and even then it is a trial to get through it.

What’s the matter with the normally astute Joe? How about the producers, aren’t they aware how tedious she is (and getting worse every day)and how embarrassing is her performance? Why don’t we send our comments on to those who make decisions, PLEASE!!!!
