“The Gays” Are Not Happy With Obama **UPDATED**

Nope – they surely are not. Seems the LBGT community wants Obama to keep his promise about DADT. Yes, seems they believed him when he said he would get rid of it tout de suite (and I say “they” because I never thought for a second that he gave a damn about our community).

This week has brought two actions from GetEqual highlighting the need for Obama to get off the mark and DO something already. The first was at a fundraiser Obama attended for Barbara Boxer:

You’ll notice Obama just deflects the cries of the protesters and does not really address the concerns. Nope, he was just his usual arrogant self. And that changes DADT not one whit.

It is precisely that lack of concern which spurred a number of military personnel to protest outside the White House, including decorated Iraq War veteran and West Point graduate, Lt. Dan Choi. I might add, Lt. Choi is a veteran now after being discharged from active duty for being gay. Still, he fights on:

You won’t believe how the White House dealt with this protest. It is shocking:

Police chased reporters away from the White House and closed Lafayette Park today in response to a gay rights protest in which several service members in full uniform handcuffed themselves to the White House gate to protest “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

People who have covered the White House for years tell me that’s an extremely unusual thing to do in an area that regularly features protests.

Here’s a video of the police chasing the reporters away:

WOW. This is just difficult to believe, even from Obama. I knew he was no friend to our community, and is he ever proving it.

These people have served their country proudly and with valor. And they have done so despite their country not valuing that service or their willingness to lay their lives on the line. Yet, they want to serve. Still, despite it all, they want to continue to serve their country in the Armed Services.

Isn’t it high time we just let them?

**UPDATED** NQ Reader, Meileen, supplied the following video of Obama’s Spokes(weasel)man, Robert Gibbs, essentially acknowledging that Obama will NOT be doing anything on DADT this year:

As savvy readers have guessed, Obama will not take advantage of his Democratic Majority, but will wait until after the elections, to try and “push” for DADT. He knows that, most likely, Republicans will be taking over at least one part of Congress, and then he can blame them for not changing the law when he runs for re-election. Oh, you can see it now, “Oh, I wanted to fulfill my campaign promise to end DADT, and I tried, I really, really tried, but those MEAN Republicans just wouldn’t let me! Vote for me again, and I PROMISE, this time, I will get it through. Promise!!” Blech.

  • creeper

He got what he wanted from the LGBT community.  Now he wants them to go away.

Infuriating post, R3A, but excellent nonethtless.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks, creeper – and you are exactly right.  It will be interesting to see what promises he makes for 2012, and if the community will buy that, too…

  • hm

There are two separate yet significant stories here. One is the broken DADT promise and the LGBT starting to fight and the other is the outrageous blockade of the press/media who wanted to cover the protest. First story not much of a surprise given 0bama’s character but the second is shocking. And if you look at meme list on this topic, no lefty blogs are talking about this and how fucked up these people are.

  • confused American

Obama has failed in his promises to many communities…Its just a matter of time before the whole nation is protesting at his door step.

Guess by the reaction of the DC police,  the Messiah  does not like to have people oppose him, especially our country’s military.
Its going to be interesting to see the WH call these men and women Terrorist, Nazis and all.  Looking at the people who had handcuffed themselves to the fence , it will be real difficult to call them racist either.

Maybe all the different  people to whom backtrack made promises and did not keep them will listen to the song

How could you believe me when I said I loved you, when you know I have been a liar all my life.

I have believed this should be his theme song since the primaries.
To all the American people  He is just NOT that in to you. Every time he has a chance he just shows his contempt for the Amercan people no matter what the issue. To him people are just to be used when needed and then thrown aside until the next time he needs them.

That’s just it, hm – the left hasd refused to acknowledge how bad Obama has been for our community from the get-go.  My Obot sister was sending me all these articles abt the hospital visitation thing, but yet, it was just a memo – NO ACTION, just WORDS!

I agree, though – what happened at the park is DESPICABLE.  And a violation of our Constitutional rights, I might add.  How can the police keep reporters out of a PARK??  Very, very telling…

  • HARP

Hmmm…….I think I get it now.

    HARP, you said it!!

    Thanks, CA!

Could it be that O got word of some violent, Tea Party, gay racists who were threatening him?  Obambi just needed protection.  Where is one of those crying videos.

Seriously, I think O can’t get any worse, and then he does.

What follows is something that I have been “kicking around in my mind” for some
time.  I found this during my ‘travels’ this morning:

    04/21/2010 – 3:19am EDT | ginzy

….Obama has let loose a few hints that he might well be satisfied to be a one term president. And as several have observed, he doesn’t really seem to like the job of POTUS. In view of this, a friend and also an ex-Chicagoan……

I want to float a different hypothesis to explain Obama, different in the sense that I don’t recall seeing this elsewhere. If someone has seen idea this elsewhere I’d love to know where.

Obama has let loose a few hints that he might well be satisfied to be a one term president. And as several have observed, he doesn’t really seem to like the job of POTUS. In view of this, a friend and also an ex-Chicagoan (and my son’s father-in-law) suggested that Obama’s bizarre, and seemingly counterproductive approach to foreign policy becomes more understandable if he is merely using the presidency of the USA as a stepping stone to become UN Secretary-General. To wit:

First of all, UN Sec’y General is the perfect job for Obama, from his perspective. He gets to sit around or travel the world and jabber with world leaders & strive to fix the world but without having the degree of administrative responsibility and accountability that is inherent in the US presidency. Indeed the UN Sec’y Generalship is almost without any accountability. Furthermore there is none of the messiness of electoral & party politics.

It’s essentially a job that offers a lot of opportunity for pontification without actually having to build or do something. Just like academia from whence Obama came.

Furthermore Obama claims to be a great believer in the moral & political superiority of doing things via transnational institutions, a belief that almost has a religious, mystical quality to it. Hence his recent nuclear disarmament conference in Washington DC designed more than anything else to polish up the heavily tarnished respectability veneer of the ineffectual NPT, but without actually dealing with the pressing Iranian nukes problem in a meaningful way. Hence Obama’s insistence on making-do with merely symbolic, “nibbling” sanctions that have the official blessing of the UN Security Council, as opposed to going for more effective, but less (in his mind) legitimate crushing sanctions imposed by the USA & a coalition of the willing.

  • freeda peeples

Where’s the MSM?????  I think at least they’d cover the ‘freedom of the press’ angle.  They should buck up and stand for their ‘principles???’ and draw a line in the sand.  If press started getting arrested maybe we would see this on the evening news.   Discusting and outrageous!

  • Breeze

Indeed, given his own views on “world governance” (also exemplified by the appointment of Harold Koh to a senior legal position in the administration) what could be a greater achievement in his mind than to become Sec’y General of the UN, in effect Supreme Leader of the World? He seemed most in his element, most comfortable when he chaired the the UN Security Council meeting last fall. Ditto for the Climate Conference.

Assuming that Obama probably has a greater chance for the job coming as a “transnational” nominee from the Third World bloc (if need be I am sure he could arrange to get Kenyan citizenship in a flash) & hence his policy & behavior have been aimed at ingratiating himself to the Third Worlders, in part by “dissing” the icons of the first world. Dump on the Europeans & especially the Brits, particularly by distancing himself from Brown, returning the Churchill bust, and giving ridiculous gifts to the queen & prime minister. Show undue respect to Third World monarchs & despots regardless of their human rights records. Downplay human rights violations in third world countries so as to placate their political leadership & hence gain their support. Re-join the UN Human Rights council, a hot bed of Third Worldism, to give it increased legitimacy. Show favor to Muslims who control a big bloc of support at the UN, by banning mention of Jihad & radical Islam.

And most of all dump on Israel, the favorite bete noir & boogey man of the Third World countries, while shielding the Palestinians — the quintessential poster children of an “oppressed” third world people (to hell with facts like the 8+% growth in the Palestinian economy in 2009) — from any criticism or from having to actually do something to advance the “peace process”.
I am sure if you go through Obama’s policies & decisions and behaviors you could come up with more examples that are quite consistent with an undeclared ongoing campaign to become UN Sec’y General by being a nominee of the Third World.

    Food for thought…

Rev. Amy—-There’s one thing I’m confused about: The video of the police pushing back the press is in color….but on my screen the policeman’s shirt is light blue. Shouldn’t it be BROWN??!! >:o  Do I need to “adjust my set”??!!
Well, free speech is on its way to the gallows in this country.
Those brave veterans standing there at the gate deserve for their story to be covered. What courage they had in handcuffing themselves to the fence!!
Thanks for this enlightening, yet deeply troubling, post.

UN sec general is always from one of the developing countries and will never come to the US. Maybe 0bama can truly embrace his father’s dreams and follow his Kenyan roots to get the UN sec generalship. In my view  however it is a demotion going from the “leader of the free world.” The thing is he will never have to work for anything again. He will and can (Yes, he can!) scam his way to many different income sources after he leaves the WH.

  • Lesbian Teacher

Right after the New Hampshire primary one of my friends asked me who I supported. I said Hillary. He asked me why and I said for many reasons including the fact that Obama was not good for Gay people. My friend said I don’t think that’s right, he lives Gay people. I said We will see. And he said Yes we will. Well, he doesn’t talk to me any more, but I hope he is seeing!

  • Diana L. C.

    Breeze,

Thanks for the article and the link.  It’s something to think about.  As I’ve said before, the many different ideas I read here keep me thinking.  I lean toward hm’s view, however.  I just don’t see Obambi wanting to work even as little as he would have to at the UN.

  • Patience

I doubt many people seriously regard the UN Sec’y General as the supreme leader of the world.

  • Diana L. C.

I am feeling a vacuum on this thread.  Where are P.O., FF, and Jackie?

Are they, perhaps, back in their pods getting their next brain feed as to how to spin these issues:  the apparant DADT broken promise and the kick in the face to the ass-licking media trying to do some part of their jobs.

  • creeper

R3A, sorry to see you have an obot sister.  I have two.  They’re both gay.  Go figure.

  • creeper

Breeze, you just answered the question that’s been dogging me for a couple of years…what’s next for Barry after the White House.  Since his entire political career consists of focusing on the next step up I’ve wondered what was left after POTUS.

Now I know.  And I think you’re right.

  • creeper

P.S.  Is it possible that Barry knows he can’t get certified on all ballots the next time and that’s why he’s making these statements about being satisfied with one term?

  • creeper

Presstitutes.  (Not my term.  Wish I knew who’d coined it.  Marge?)

Diana L.C., please don’t go trolling for trolls.

Thanks for getting the word out on this topic RRRA!

BTW, for anyone who doesn’t know, hospital accreditation rules already give gay partners the right to visit, etc.  It’s just that once in a while some heartless bastard intercedes and causes added stress and pain to an already stressful and painful situation.  The 2 recent lawsuits in the news revealed that the gay partners had various legal documentation regarding visitation, treatment, last wishes, etc.  Still, some asshole hospital employees ignored the rules and forced the suits.  Apparently a judge’s ruling caused the POTUS to issue the memo and I’m glad he did and I hope it helps.  We’ll see.

I have a feeling the POTUS is waiting to cash in the DADT card until the most optimally-beneficial (to him, as usual) time.  I won’t be surprised if it’s rescinded right before the 2012 election.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

What I was thinking after reading this is that Obama, since he will have had ALL that experience as C-i-C, will appoint himself Supreme Leader of NATO so he can have that title.

I have two Obot brothers, too, and one brother who thought he was unqualified, but was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  Every time my sister would send me something on how GREAT Obama is to/for the GLBT community, I would provide her with tons of examples of how he wasn’t.  She just ignores them.

Sorry to hear abt YOUR two sisters – heck, even John Aravosis, who was a HUGE Obamaphile, has had a change of heart.  Maybe you can steer them to his site.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I actually just saw something abt that, creeper.  The Arizona House has JUST passed a bill that Obama has to prove his citizenship if he wants his name on the ballot again.  I guess better late than never, huh?

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

EXCELLENT term for the MSM!  But yes, you would think they would at least come to the defense of their own.  But hey – it’s just a bunch of gay military types anyway, so who cares, right?

  • oowawa

LOL–These days are lending new poignancy to the phrase “all in the family.”  From the Wikipedia article about the TV show (1971-79):

“The program you are about to see is All in the Family. It seeks to throw a humorous spotlight on our frailties, prejudices, and concerns. By making them a source of laughter we hope to show, in a mature fashion, just how absurd they are.”‘
All in the Family was notorious for featuring language and epithets previously absent from television, such as “fag” for homosexual, “hebe” for Jews, “spic” for Hispanics, “mick” for Irish, “dago” and “wop” for Italians,”polock” for Polish, “chink” for Chinese, “Jap” for Japanese, “gook” for southeast Asian, “spade” for blacks, and phrases such as “God damn it.”

Well, how much farther have we travelled down the post-racial, post-homophobe road?  All in the Family brought bigotry out into the open and allowed us all to see how absurd it was and laugh at it.  Seems to me, these problems have crawled back under a rock.  All in the Family also raised this possibility: even benighted bigotry is “all in the family,” and ultimately we can still love each other, and in the end, “family” prevails, and the bigotry mellows.  Now it’s “racist” this, and “racist” that.  Post-racial?  Hardly.  Post-family is more accurate.   And now we have to deal with “obots” in the family circle!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Cindy, you said it – and VERY well – thank you!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I’m sorry he doesn’t talk to you anymore, LT.  But there are SO many examples of Obama NOT liking GLBT people, and very, very few of him actually doing anything for us.  Everyone was all up in arms that Palin didn’t support same-sex marriage, but NEITHER DID OBAMA!!  Where was the outrage there?

There are so many examnples – Donnie McClurkin, James Meeks, Doug Kmiec, et al…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

That’s how they roll.  They try to hijack threads and change the topic.  We cannot allow them to do that.  I recommend ignoring them.  I admit that once in a while, if they say something particuarly egregious abt what I have written (usually misquotes from previous articles so that people cannot check the facts right then and there), I might say something.  But as a rule, I try not to engage with them.  IOW, create a vacuum for THEM!  :-D

  • Docelder

I can envision “New Democrats” sitting around making strategy going something like this… Rahm might say what are the LGBT people going to do? Vote for Romney? I don’t think so. So many groups have hurt themselves by letting th left co-opt their power. It is being taken for granted or worse they are simply used and dismissed. Like a cheap date.

  • Docelder

The new “brown” might be “purple” this time. But it will be the same thing.

  • AbigailAdams

LT:  I “had” a couple of friends who were very vocal about their support of barry over gay rights (they didn’t campaign or anything, just loud mouths) because they knew how much effort our family was putting into the Clinton campaign (stumping, spent an entire week workng from an out-of-state HQ, spent summer vacay at the convention in support of her).  Then, when Palin made her debut, one of them doubled their efforts and started sending me “humor” items about her and tried to persuade me, using msnbc talking points no less, that she was stupid and deserving of sexist humor.  Grrrr.

I thought it was incredibly nervy of him to try to persuade me of barry’s moral high ground on gays and then turn around and heap more sexist garbage on another woman candidate as was so openly done to HRC.  He couldn’t even see how what he was doing to me was exactly how he felt the government at large was doing to gays.

It’s this sort of duplicity that is just stunning to me and while I miss this guy from a pre-barry standpoint, I can’t imagine that we have much in common after that episode.  Arrogance and false pride are destructive character traits.  He will probably go to his grave defending his opinion even if they are antithetical to what he really believes, just because of those traits.  Identical to the bots who post their strange comments here.

  • oowawa

“where is one of those crying videos?”

  • Diana L. C.

Yes, I came to the thread last night late and got so disgusted by their takeover that I basically quit reading.  I guess that’s why I asked the question.  I won’t mention them again, but I do notice that there is something that will trigger their response and other things they ignore.  That was my point, I guess.  Obamabots ARE uninterested in this topic.  Why?

  • ~~JustMe~~

Come on brown is the “new blue” get up to speed will ya! ;)

  • Docelder

He will be divisive about it when that day comes. New Democrats are divisive in general. We are being balkanized by them.

  • kenoshamarge

Exactly, just like the women’s vote. Where we gonna go, right? I know where I went when the party I supported for 40 years became the party of misogyny, I voted for the ticket that had a woman on it.

Gays, and women, need to stop believing that the Dems are the liftline for them. They are not!

Talk”s cheap, takes guts, integrity, honesty and real leadership to do what’s right instead of what’s politically comfortable.

Not holding me breath until I see that happening. Not holding my breath until I gays and women taking a good honest look at the party they support in overwhelming numbers.

Anybody heard anything about that darned old ERA? I suspect that’s on the bottom of the importance file along with DADT.

  • AC

    You did write St. Peter

  • Anthony

Because its to Obama’s advantage to NOT discuss this topic. He’s lost the support of gays, women, moderates on either side, and only has some of the AA voters still ‘clinging’ to their support for him.

He’s now going after the Latino voting bloc, who are mostly Catholic, to save the Dems in November. Its no secret that the AA community and the Latino/Catholic voters are both vehemently and unashamedly anti-gay.

Guess Plouffe’s Internet Squad is still getting paid $1 per post…..

Would “trolling for trolls” make you a “trollop”?

  • Breeze

    Creeper and RRRA,

I have been meaning to ask just that next.

If TheOne decides to run for another term, will he have to be accepted as a
contender in the same way as the first time?

If so, maybe he NEVER did intend to serve TWO terms…

He and his ‘backers’ figure that all the damage he was hired (by the puppeteers) to do can be done in just ONE term.

  • Noogan

Some influential gay bloggers–hello, AmericaBlog!–were sucked into the vortex by Obama too; it was infuriating to me at the time. I know they’re not happy with the results of their strong partisan support for Obama; they let themselves be fooled. I can’t respect their opinions now because they were so credulous then. I’m still too angry with them for not seeing what was right in front of their eyes.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Exactly right, Docelder and Kenoshamarge.  I realized that the Dems talk a good line, but that’s all it is – talk.  They say what they need to say to get our votes, then completely disregard us.

The Democrats shot themselves in the foot this past election when they engaged in such blatant misogyny toward Clinton and Palin, NOT for their politics, but because they were women, plain and simple.  That was when my eyes were opened to how they really operated.

And it’s the same for the GLBT community.  We always made fun of the Log Cabin Republicans, saying stuff like they suffered from internalized homophobia, but Senator McCain has acted with FAR more respect toward the LGBT communtiy than Obama ever has.  How?  With his ACTIONS, not just words, that’s how. What a difference that makes…

  • Ani

Yes Amy, that “memo” turned out to be nothing as well.  I too was originally encouraged by it as it was initially being reported as an Executive Order.  Turns out it was nothing of the kind.  More placating “words, just words.”

Thank you for this piece, upsetting as it is.

This issue needs to be kept front and center.  When the DoJ files yet another brief just a couple of weeks ago again maintaining the current policy of DADT, using a 17 year old quote of Colin Powell’s in support of it — a quote he himself no longer agrees with, by the way — that tells you the whole story of where this administration is on Gay rights.

President Obama’s comments last night that he and Barbara Boxer are “trying to” repeal it come across as though he is some concerned citizen hoping to get a meeting with his Congressman.  He is the POTUS for crying out loud.  You want to issue an executive order — issue this one:  DADT is repealed.  This is now the law of the land.  Period.  Let him then get out on the campaign trail and use his eloquent oratory to tell the American people why it is important to do so.

  • Noogan

Patience, do you have any links on this? I want to have some documentation to use as references for this. Thank you.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

That is abt what I said to my partner, Kenoshamarge.  Though I was referencing the description of the “hecklers” of Obama.  When there were lefties doing that to Bush, we all celebrated it.  Now, those “rude” people interrupted The One – how DARE they?!?!

What a bunch of freakin’ hypocrites…

  • kenoshamarge

I just “flag” the hell out of them. Gets rid of the instant inclination to try to refute their nonsense.

I have no desire to engage in conversation with them. I tried that during the primary and soon realized that all they “know” is talking points, sound bites, misinformation, disinformation and flat out lies.

I have no problem engaging in conversation or discussion with people that don’t see things the same way that I do. Makes for interesting dialogue.

Those that troll aren’t looking for dialogue, they’re looking, as RR
RA said, to hijack threads and spread lies. All too often there are more posts answering or arguing with trolls than engaging in conversation with people who are worth the time and effort.

JMO but talking to a troll is a complete waste of time.

  • Michelle from the Resistance

I abhor the Douchebag in Chief, but I don’t agree with you on this issue. Sir Lie-a-Lot already started the process to repeal DADT, it might take a bit longer than expected but it’s obvious he will live up to his promise. There are many things to worry about when it comes to Narcissus, this is not one of them.

I do agree with you that he is no friend to the LBGT community, then again he is only a friend to dictators, criminals, liars, terrorists and men who like to abuse women, so the LBGT community should see it as a compliment.

  • Yttik

This is why, when you are hearing crap about how tea partiers are dangerous, how they are seditious, we need to all stand up for American’s right to protest. It’s irrelevent whether you agree with them or not, the people have to be united about defending Constitutional rights. People on the Left cannot support garbage like labeling dissent seditious, because before you know it, it will be the causes you care about being hauled off in handcuffs and silenced.

  • Cindy

Abigail—I was always struck by the fact that many of the liberals who
hated and bashed Palin, did the same with Hillary. How could you hate BOTH of them, when they’re political opposites??
The one person that comes to mind in the bashing of both Hillary and Sarah is the woman who wrote “Vagina Monlogues”.(can’t remember her name) She is lesbian, and was very vocally Pro Obama during the 2008 primary.
    Wonder what she thinks now?

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Um, no, not really.  His Justice Department recently submitted a brief regurgiatating talking points from Colin Powell’s original remarks on this in SUPPORT of DADT.

Moreover, he could have ended this immediately, and has chosen not to do so.

So, I disagree with you – I think this is an issue abt which to hold his feet to the fire, though I suspect, as others here do, that he will magically end it right before the 2012 election.

  • Texas Playwright

Well, R3 Amy, as sickening and expected as the fraud’s behavior toward the LGBT citizens is from those of us who’ve had clear minds and common sense all along, far more dangerous is the fascist/totalitarian assault on the First Amendment.  Without free speech and free press, NO group in America is safe.  Any human being and any group of human beings who courageously fought for equal participation in society did so BECAUSE SOMEBODY HEARD THEM AND TOLD SOMEBODY ELSE, OVER AND OVER AND OVER.  We used to call that journalism.

We the People can keep taking this abuse of our principles, our Constitution, our soul and our character, or we can become the citizen journalists who keep a watchful eye on anyone trampling our rights.  I vote for the latter–on a paper ballot.

  • Cindy

oowawa—-thanks so much! My first belly laugh of the day. I don’t know why these guys crack me up!!! So funny!

  • Freedom Fighter

“You’ll notice Obama just deflects the cries of the protesters and does not really address the concerns.”

How are you supposed to respond to the teabaggers’ concerns when they won’t even let him speak by heckling him?

  • Cindy

oowawa—p.s.   This particular guy looked like he was about to start laughing at any minute, which made me laugh even harder!
And as I’m writing this, I’ve had a thought that these “blubbering vignettes” you play for us remind me of Bill Murray in that hilarious pep talk scene from “Meat Balls”   (“it just doesn’t matter!”) A classic.    Bill Murray could read a grocery list and I’d be on the floor laughin’.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

You said it, TX Playwright – that is it exactly.  Our Constitution is being shredded on a daily basis by this crew.  Now I know why Obama was given his position at Chicago Law by a Board member rather than having to go through a real hiriing practice…

  • Cindy

    oowawa —That was beautifully stated.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

“Teabagger” is homophobic, and you have been told this a thousand times.  To use it in a post on LGBT rights is even more egregoious.

And if Obama cannot handle having hecklers – something abt which we rejoiced when they did it to Bush – he doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to be president.

  • Michelle from the Resistance

A more important quetion would be: how can a douchebagger read this blog post when his is head is cleary way up the Douchebag’s arse?

  • tango

It wasn’t Tea Party Members heckling him, it was gay and lesbians asking about don’t ask, don’t tell.   Funny how the left just assumes if anyone heckles Obama, they’re right wing wackos doing Tea Party work.

the most telling thing for me in the video is the look in Obama’s eyes.  simply look closely before even starting the video.  that look is so damn scary to me.  that look tells me, personally, that he’s got some really unsavory stuff going on in his soul.  subjective, yes, and no apology for it.

  • Diana L. C.

Yes, I understand that O is the first to decide that he just doesn’t care about certain voting blocks.  But I wonder when he will finally understand that the more of those blocks he throws under the bus, he will be left finally without much support at all.  (But perhaps the Wall Street support is all he thinks he needs.)

In any case, I live out here in the West and grew up with many Latinos.  These people can also think for themselves (surprise!); and many have left the Catholic church.  And those that remain Catholic aren’t necessarily totally practicing Catholics.  How many Catholics do you know, for example, who actually use the rhythm method of birth control?

And the many educated AAs I know don’t strike me as being stridently homophobic.  He can’t just keep on counting only on the uneducated to vote for him.

Maybe you don’t know the origin of the term FF? How could it be anything other than a slight against man on man activity? So, in effect, just like the middle school kids that live on my street who call each other things like fag and gay… Olberman and his crowd are coming close to calling TEA people “gay” by making the play on the word “teabagger”. Midle school kids, I can excuse to a point. It is way too childish for network news.

GEICO voice actor fired after insulting tea parties

Sometimes you have a headline that makes the rest of the story superfluous, but here’s the background. Actor Lance Baxter, otherwise known as “D.C. Douglas,” currently known as the man who informs you how much GEICO can save you on car insurance, left a message last month with FreedomWorks in which he asked the group how many “mentally retarded” people it had on staff and what it would do when a tea partyer “killed someone.” On April 14, FreedomWorks put his voicemail online.

Today, Douglas reports he’s been dropped from GEICO’s campaign. His dramatic news release is here; he claims to have been motivated by “the recent gay and racial slurs slung by Tea Party members at Congressman Barney Frank and Representative John Lewis during the Health Care Reform Weekend,” and says he’s “open to any attorneys taking on this case pro bono.”

    Press release here:

No one believes me that Palin got Biden to agree that their stance on Gay Marriage (they both believe that Gays shouldn’t marry, but are”open” to the idea Domestic Partnerships). Biden was trying to distinguish thier points of view and Palin kept saying that she agreed. Finally Biden was saved by the moderator, butnot before he said, “Fine, we agree.”

My mom sent me one of the “funny” Palin videos. One of the ones with a John McCain look alike punching her in the face. I wrote my mother back and asked her not to send me anymore misogyntic emails. She wrote me back saying she couldn’t believe how she was blinded to the violent nature of the email. BTW, my mother was a battered woman. I was glad I could open her eyes!

  • Peggy Sue

Hi Amy!  This is certainly another sad chapter in this ongoing spectacle.  I happened to catch a piece of vid over at John W. Smart of these servicemen and women being handcuffed and put into the paddy wagon.  So for all the pushback by the WH goons on the press, they weren’t entirely successful.  It certainly doesn’t make me feel proud as an American. Nor does the President’s reaction to any and all criticism.  He acts like a pouty child in public when anyone dares to disagree.  And how do his supporters react?  The way they have in the past: shout the opposition down and begin the mindless mantra, which should be changed to: We thought we could but boy were we wrong.

In addition to the film footage tapped by CBS and posted on a Breitbart TV link, I was equally appalled by the public commentary on that site.  The hateful spew was off the charts.  In fact, one of the posters [hiding behind a tagline, of course] said the following:

“These people should be charged for impersonating military personnel, and then charged for impersonating human beings.”

There was more like that.  Demeaning, hateful.  And then, I had the unfortunate experience to pop up another site discussing the Goldman Sachs case were the comments focused on bringing down “the dirty Jews.”

My point is that the level of vitriol, the confusion and fear is leading to some very dark alleys, places we really don’t want go. Instead of cheering these military men and women for demanding their own civil liberties in a very famous location for such protests, there are some that will use this event to spew nothing but bigotry.  And in the Goldman case, when we should all be standing behind exposing fraud at all levels, there are some who will use this as an excuse to bait and provoke racial and ethnic hatreds.

We need to stay focused on what we know is right and what we know is wrong.  These military men and women stand for everyone.  If they are denied their civil rights then none of us are assured civil rights. And whether Jew or gentile, the Ponzi players in the banking scandal need to be prosecuted.

But once scapegoating becomes fashionable then anything and everything is possible.  We need to be alert.  These are dangerous times.

  • Cindy

    Good one, ONO!!

  • Docelder

Taking his “case”? There is no way that GEICO is wrong to fire the guy. He is his voice and his voice is tied to their product. GEICO doesn’t want to be publicly against the TEA people. TEA people are probably a big part of their target demographic. The other angle is he can’t be mad at the group that made his message public. They own their message machine and everything left on it.

  • helenk

That was taught to me when I was very young. It stuck with me for over 60 years. I do not have to believe what someone says but I do have to stand up for their right to say it.
People complain about the ACLU, I admire them and would not want a country without them. I do not have to agree with all their stands, but thank God they are willing to take one.

Interesting, do your gay friends use the term douchebagger when describing you? Because your head is clearly way up the Douchebag’s arse?

  • AbigailAdams

Sometimes you just have to let the facts speak for themselves and that, I believe, is exactly what the Tea Partiers and those who feel more aligned to them are doing.  It’s pathetic to now see the same (neo-Dems and barry supporters) dancing all over the place like a drop of cold water on a hot griddle, trying to defend purely through offense, their position.  They’re all over the place in their comments, searching for a hole in the dyke, the one toehold they can use to dismantle and discredit public sentiment.  And I don’t think it is putting too fine a point on it to say they are acting just like a spoiled child who has finally been given boundaries.  All you parents here will know that a spoiled kid will not give up easily; pushing all the old buttons that once worked, crying ‘foul’ because ‘it’s not fair!” and going nearly insane just to have their way.  And at some near-term point it will feel like everyone’s on the edge of disaster.  That’s what the media are trying to tell us so that we’ll back down.  But now’s the time to hold fast and let the neo-Dems exhaust themselves, showing the country just what they are, like an 8 year-old bully who is used to getting what they want by any means.  So sitck to your principles and don’t let anyone convince you that you don’t know what you’re doing, thinking or saying.  It’s what the neo-Dems want, for us to waiver and start second-guessing ourselves and each other.  That’s what a spoiled child does and that’s what they’re trying to do.

  • Lesbian Teacher

The first time I heard that term used, I was watching the “news” with my 85 year old mother-in-law and my 4 year old son on my lap. When I reacted with disgust, my mother-in-law asked me why I was so outraged. I told her it was a sexual word. She didn’t believe me at first, so I had to explain what it meant (with my son still on my lap). I will never forgive Anderson Cooper. I am not sure if be started it, but his smug little face is forever etched in my mind!

PS: there was also another disturbing video from Alipac, where the speaker outed Lindsey Graham, demanding he admit his homosexual life style.  The excuse given was he “might” have been pressured [blackmailed] by Liberals in his stance on Immigration Reform.

This says it best for me, “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” I make exceptions to that rule for hate speech, but that is all. This quote has appeared in many documents as attributed to Voltaire, I always heard it was by Thomas Paine. But no matter who said it, it is a cornerstone of our Constitution, and people should be reminded that rights they refuse others are rights they have no right to themselves.

RRA, Obama did go through the real hiring practice, and they found him unqualified and boring and declined to hire him. Then the word came down from on high that he was to be hired and given an office.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I see FF deleted the original comment to which I responded.  So freakin’ tiresome this game playing of FF’s.

And btw, FF – not everyone who opposes Obama is a Tea Partier.   Convenient to try and paint everyone with a broad brush, though.

  • EllenD

TEA people are probably a big part of their target demographic.

First off, is this the Gecko? Or the generic announcer?
In any case, this is dumb. I wouldn’t trade the slice of the Tea Party people Geico has for the  gay customer base. Gays will walk. And they are vocal and will organize against Geico so that others will walk.
I’d say I’ll never take Geico Insurance because of this, but they have already alienated me. (‘nother story).

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Exactly, Tango – it was a GLBT organization that sent protesters to the fundraiser.

Again, though, that was made clear in the post itself – GetEqual was the group.  SOOOOO much easier to pretend that is not the case, though, for people like FF.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thank you, Peggy Sue, for your very thoughtful comment. I appreciate your tying all of these issues together.  Well done!

And yes – I saw that abt Graham.  Wow, it just goes to show you what people will do to try and get their way.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks, JustMe – I didn’t think that flagging someone got rid of their comment, but maybe it does.

If so, then my apologies to FF, but I think the Admin actually has to remove it unless the author of the comment decides to delete it themselves.  I could be wrong, though.  I’ll check to be sure!  Thanks!

  • oowawa

I don’t know what the “flag” link actually does.  I assume it is designed to call a post to the attention of an administrator.  I certainly do not think a certain number of “flags” will delete a post, nor should it.  If a contrarian post exists, it will attract a certain number of responses, and the disappearance of that post will leave these responses stranded.  I am always reluctant to “flag” anything, unless it is something like the long citations from Mein Kampf that “Noogan’s Brother” posted the other day.  I sometimes delete a post (usually to modify it), but I will NEVER delete a post if someone has already responded to it.

Ani, you said it, sister – and very well, too.  That’s the thing – he doesw all of these sleight of hand gestures to make it LOOK like he is doing something, when he is doing nothing at all.

Or in the case of the DOJ, doing the exact OPPOSITE of what he said he was going to do.

    Great comment!

  • ~~JustMe~~

Well they’ve made better people use the tradesman’s entrance!

  • Docelder

Well, I don’t get it. The guy left a message asking how many retarded pople were there? I don’t see what that has to do with being gay or not being gay one way or another so I don’t see how gay people would defend the guy against GEICO. I still don’t get it.

  • creeper

Breeze:  “If TheOne decides to run for another term, will he have to be accepted as a contender in the same way as the first time?’

    Evidently not in Arizona.

  • sowsear

They’ve alienated me just with the talking gecko

FWIW, here’s the Freeper version of Barry’s hiring.  It cites an actual source so it may well be true.

  • creeper

Well, I’m here to tell you I flagged THAT one and I suspect I’m not alone.

I know a guy who posts on another board.  He always copies the entire post he’s replying to.  I thought it was a waste of bytes until I saw the MO of our trolls here…outrageous drive-by postings that are deleted as soon as there’s a strong response.

    Love that “Flag” option.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Right – that a Board member essentially gave him this position.  I had seen that article – it certainly rings true that they found him to be lazy, refused to attend meetings, and they didn’t like him.  I am sure they didn’t appreciate him being given such preferential treatment, especially when he was NOT a scholar as he likes to assert…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

That’s what I’m thinking, too, oowawa – it would be too easy for a bunch of Obots to gang up and constantly flag to deletion a particular commenter.  I think it has become the pattern since this new system was begun for them to do these drive bys – say something outrageous, then when people respond, delete their original comment to make the responders look foolish…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

    Thanks, CD!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

    Well said, Sara…

  • WMCB

I’m of the opinion that he will drag his feet until the Repubs take over Congress.  THEN and only then will he come out with a full-throated public push to repeal DADT, knowing full well it will be blocked.  He’ll get all passionate about it once there is no danger f it actually happening, and he can use it as a political tool.

Then the Dems can blame it all on those evuhl Republicans, ignoring that they have controlled Congress since 2006, and the presidency as well for 2 years, and did BUPKUS.

I’ve seen this game before, with every thing from gay rights to abortion to womens rights.  They want that ball IN PLAY as a tool to be picked up when handy.  They really don’t want the issue resolved.

Watch. That is exactly how this is going to play out.  He’s buying time til some good scapegoats get in office, then he’ll be ALL about DADT.

  • oowawa

Indeed, Rev. Amy.   Obviously, the “flag” link should not directly delete comments.  I remember when “Dead Lark” was posting and deleting its own comments as a philosophical-artistic statement of who-knows-what, and what a mess that was creating on the blog.  And indeed, Rahm could convene the Bot Squad and tell them, “Okay–this week we’re going to flag the shit out of “Onofre’s arm” and “Ferd Berfle” on No Quarter and make them go away for once and for all . . .

  • meileen

Thanks for this post RRRA. I think GetEQUAL is doing a great job.

On another note, Gibbs actually admitted today that DADT will NOT be repealed this year because the president requested YET ANOTHER study about this issue. Granted, it’s supposed to be about how to implement; all they have to do is ask one of these countries: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bermuda, Brazil, Canada, Czech, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Russia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Uruguay….

Here’s a link to the article about Gibbs:

The guy says he was motivated by the gay and racial slurs – Barney Frank and John Lewis. If I were gay, I would infer he was gay. I don’t see many non-gays getting upset about someone insulting Barney Frank.

  • candymarl

Obama with McClurkin and company wasn’t a hint? Gay marriage being defeated in states that Obama carried ( CA and NY supposedly ultraliberal) and according to exit and other polls were defeated primarily by folks that voted for Obama.

Obama can’t afford to offend his base. That base ain’t gay folks.

  • oowawa

HaHa–this is so funny in an unfunny sort of way–when you want to put something on the back burner without seeming to do so, just call for a study.  And then, after the results from the study come in (after an interminably long period of time), call for the legislature to set up a committee to evaluate the results of the study.  And then . . .

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

    Exactly, oowawa!

  • sowsear

Me too,,,I’m not going to wade through all of that bot garbage.

  • confused American

My youngest is obot all the way through…but she is now thinking a bit outside of the box

  • oowawa

The various GEICO ad campaigns are stupefying in their relentless ubiquity.   Note that GEICO is owned by Warren Buffet company Berkshire-Hathaway.  Some of the ads are clever (urbane cavemen), and some are mind-numbingly stupid (talking money ads).  At any rate, the extent of the GEICO campaigns is astounding:

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

You got it, candymarl.  And don’t forget Florida, too.  Obama’s associates are most definitely NOT gay-friendly, and neither is Obama.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks for the link, Meilieen – I added the video of the Spokesweasel above.  Thank you!!

And yes – there are any number of countries that have already implemented the change.  There is ZERO need to reinvent the wheel on this issue.

  • getfitnow

Blacks need to wake up too.

  • getfitnow

And the third story is the inability for That One to act presidential. What’s all the hollering  on his part? His voice seems to be getting higher.

Remember the Coakley rally? He was mildly heckled; lost his place,  on the telepropter; lost control; stepped away from the podium for a moment. “Yes, We Can” is so yesterday. The audience needs to grow up

  • getfitnow

Fabulous, helenk. This sounds like his “99 problems.” :-P

  • getfitnow

Mine too, Cindy. I needed it.

  • getfitnow

What has this guy every accomplished? Even as a community organizer (agitator) what did he actually do. Were people in Chicago, better off  because of That One? I have a friend that’s been in Chicago all her life. She never heard of him before ’04 convention.

Everytime he ran for something, he couldn’t run on experience/accomplishment/set of principles. (I would really like to see the debate between he and Bobby Rush). He ALWAYS brought a gun to the fight and that’s how he won.

  • getfitnow

When this was floated about Clinton, seems I read, leaders from the countries on the security council are  not eligible.

  • getfitnow

This hasn’t passed the full legislature yet.

  • Retired

Interesting video on the press being pushed back.  I can only surmise that the Obama’s handlers didn’t want video cameras around when the bolt-cuttered Iraq War vets off of the White House fence, then recuffed them and stuffed them into black Suburbans for their free rides to various stockades and brigs.  We missed that story, of course, of what happened to the service men and women after the press was shooed away.  Anyone know what did happen to them?

  • Ani

    FF, I call b.s.

I’ve got lots of gay friends and not one of them uses that phrase to describe anybody!  And they are all politically aware.

  • Senneth

Yes Creeper, and many of us were too stupid to actually look at his record and his campaigning.  Thank you RRRAmy for the article.  I’m going to say that if it weren’t for the stupid LGBT/women’s rights community I doubt if That One would have been able to steal the election.  As a lesbian and a women’s rights activist I will never get over this selection – NEVER.

  • getfitnow

Well I wish the msm and partisans on all sides would heed what my beloved grandmother never let me forget. She said “You may be mine, but when you’re wrong, you’re wrong.” She never twisted and contorted to defend me when I was obviously wrong.

  • helenk

I saw this at uppity woman. commenter jp49 posted it. I looked it up and bookmarked it.
This has to be made public. I am sure many people do not know about it. It could be used against Americans.

Back in the day, if you were a Log Cabin Republican, gay dems thought you had lost your mind.  Problem is that they are too invested in the dem doctrine that they haven’t caught on that they are being played for suckers.  Time for them to wise up, like many of us have….”party fever” gets you nowhere….learn the facts and decide who can do the best job.  It is NOT always a dem, I am VERY sorry to say.  Gays stood up for themselves at Stonewall….time to do it again!!

(Disclaimer:  I would say these things in front of all my gay friends 8-) )

“Say What You Will…It Feels So Good”

  • creeper

    Thanks, R3A.

I’ll not be referring my sisters to Aravosis’ site.  In the interest of maintaining some vestige of a family relationship we don’t talk politics any more.  The last time we tried that it was nine months before either of them would speak to me.

But I sure enjoyed reading it.  I remember Aravosis’ stuff being cited in Cheetohville a couple of years ago.  I would imagine he’s not much welcome there after this latest.

  • creeper

Oh, geez…I am SO dense.  St. PETER!  LMAO

  • candymarl

Here’s my beef with what Palin said. Traditional marriage as we know it today is fairly new. There were arranged marriages and power marriages in this country too.

In case Palin doesn’t know it, in some acient cultures, it was also traditional to marry a woman/man while having a same sex partner on the side. But let’s not talk about that.

  • Senneth

My whole family is one big obot.  My partner and I voted McCain/Palin.  I went out of town with my sister to keep her company, and the whole way back she poured out her obot love for That One.  I told her what he’d done to the women’s rights community – Nothing, set us back decades; what he’s done for the LGBT community, minority rights.  Wouldn’t believe me.  I’ve been a NOW state and chapter president and been in the front lines most of my adult life and she told me I was mistaken and how That One was good for everyone.  Blech!  Another break from the family is in order.  Sigh.

  • lorac

When people berate them, it only engages the bots.  A few times recently Ani confronted FF, calmly pointing out that his comments had nothing to do with the post or with the comments he was responding to, and I noticed he ran away each time….

  • lorac

When you guys first floated the idea of this new system, a link was posted where we could read about the new system.  I remember reading that if a post was flagged 5 times, it would be deleted….?

  • lorac

But it was clear a couple of days after those alleged slurs that there was no evidence and they never happened.  Guess he didn’t get the memo….  or maybe MSNBC never bothered to cover “the rest of the story”….

  • Bonnie

It is odd to me he kept Gates as his Secretary of Defense. Bush appointed a man who was ideologically in line with him and one who was also involved in the Iran Contra scandal. Now the Pentagon is being blamed for a decision which was clearly Obama’s to make. Don’t most presidents want their own man/woman in the important cabinet positions? I don’t buy the argument of not changing due to the wars and I don’t see how openly gay soldiers would demoralize the troops. Ten years of war is demoralizing, particularly given there is no end in sight. Please forgive misspelled words. I always read your posts Rev Amy, seldom comment. Thank you. Eise

  • kenoshamarge

I love that saying too FLDemFem! It says it all for me too.

The left, and their mouthpieces in the media need to be reminded from time to time that those who seek to silence “dissent” are the ones that are “seditious”. They are the ones that undermine the freedom upon which this country is based.

We were, as a country, “born” out of dissent. And only by allowing it, whether we agree with it or not, do we have any chance to retain the things we gained at that birth.

  • creeper

That’s frightening, helenk.  Even more so when you realize that, as written, it seems to apply to anyone, even an American citizen, the government deems an “enemy belligerent”.

And what’s up with putting the adjective before the noun?  Do they think that’ll make this look more scholarly?

    We are so screwed.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I hear ya, creeper – I try not to discuss politics with my family anymore, either.  My mom and I were HUGE Hillary supporters surrounded by these Obots.  It makes me so sad that Mom died without ever having had a woman president, especially since Hillary was the obvious ONLY choice…

And yes – Aravosis seems to have opened his eyes some now.  Shame he bought into all of the Obot BS before, though…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I had similar experiences with my sister who CHASTIZED me for not supporting The One since I had been involved with NOW.  She is still high on Hopium, though.  Nothing will dissuade her from her Obot love…

  • bayareavoter

The Lafayette Park incident is SO BUSH-like. Can you even imagine how the so-called Left would have responded if it happened during the previous regime?

  • Patience

As Ani would say, ding, ding, ding, ding — we have a winner!!!  YES,  that’s probably the strategy.  Great thinking WMCB.

  • Arrowyn

It might be a good idea to quote the content of a post, if that poster (like dead lark) has a habit of ‘hit and run’ posting – trolling for comments, then deleting the post that started the ruckus.

  • Arrowyn

This guy was abusing the Tea Party for what he *thought* they stood for – and he was showing a bad attitude toward developmentally disabled folks.  On top of that, he was behaving like a 10-year-old crank phone caller, and not even bothering to hide his identity or his contact information.  Geico was right to fire this a-hole, and I think better of them because they did.
