Thoughts on Obama’s Speech Tonight

As I was listening to Fox News contributor Charles Krauthammer’s astute commentary on Obama’s speech, it dawned on me what Barack Obama did tonight. Obama delivered his version of Hillary Clinton’s stump speech to the Invesco crowd tonight (although she would have delivered it far better than he because she truly cares about everyday Americans).

Somehow, he and his campaign finally got it. As Dr. Krauthammer observed, Barack Obama finally realized — after the Berlin fiasco (and, might I add, the last couple months of the primaries) — that the “hope and change” messages that had thrilled audiences and made them fall in love with him were not working anymore. Obama realized he had to deliver a TRUE Democrat’s speech to the American people, focusing on workers, on health care, on education, and all the other issues that are so vital to the core constituency of the Democratic party.

Dr. Krauthammer also observed that, if Obama can stay on this NEW theme of core Democratic party values, he can possibly win in a landslide in November.

Another commentator also noted that Obama’s line — “It’s not that John McCain doesn’t care, it’s that he doesn’t get it.” — was exceptional.

That line worked by deftly, adroitly painting McCain as “out of touch” but NOT heartless.

Obama realizes that he dare not demonize John McCain.

Obama understands that he cannot make any callous remarks about John McCain, as Jimmy Carter thoughtlessly, carelessly did earlier today.

John McCain is too much of a familiar hero to millions and millions of Americans, no matter if they agree or disagree with his policies.

Did Obama succeed in connecting with the American people tonight?

We shall see.

But the Republicans had better pull off a heck of a convention next week. And John McCain had better practice his acceptance speech until his rhetoric soars.

John McCain has another looming problem: All the rumors point to McCain having selected Mitt Romney as his running mate.

Quite frankly, I find Romney a very disheartening choice. He’s perhaps waffled on more issues than either McCain or Obama.

Romney allows himself too easily to be tugged by conflict, and he too willingly cedes ground in order to “people please.”

Then there’s that Romney, in actuality, has very little experience in elected office. Romney has LESS political experience than Obama or John Edwards. He served as the governor of Massachusetts for only FOUR years. That’s his entire political career.

Earlier today, I checked out the resume of Tim Powlenty who has vastly more experience and would have been an intriguing choice — that would have garnered more than the usual press coverage — because he would have been a fresh face to the American people. Romney is boringly familiar to most voters, and will not give McCain an advantage.

The next two-plus months are going to be fascinating.

Much will depend on how the four men do in their debates.

Much will depend on any slip-ups or on any scandals emerging.

Much will depend on how effectively the 527s can finance and air their attack ads.

Barack Obama is a huge target for the 527s.

His terrible voting record on “infanticide” (live birth abortion) is a problem for anyone on either side.

His voting record on gun rights will alarm 2nd Amendment hardliners.

His associations with known, unrepentant terrorists will shock millions of Americans.

And Obama is in a bind in that he cannot go after McCain too hard or too personally given that McCain is roundly regarded by the vast majority of Americans as a man who sacrificed and endured years of excruciating pain and deprivation for the sake of his country.

::::::::::

Hillary Clinton — always the person with the most class — issued an excellent statement tonight immediately after Obama’s speech.

STATEMENT FROM SENATOR HILLARY RODHAM CLINTON IN RESPONSE TO SENATOR BARACK OBAMA’S ACCEPTANCE SPEECH

“Barack Obama’s speech tonight laid out his specific, bold solutions and optimistic vision for our nation and our children’s future.

“His speech crystallized the clear choice between he and Senator McCain. Four more years of the same failed policies or a leader who can tackle the great challenges we face: revitalizing our economy and restoring our standing in the world. I am proud to support Senator Obama, our next President of the United States and Joe Biden, our next Vice President of the United States.”

But how I wish that it had been she tonight, accepting the Democratic nomination. She has the requisite experience and knowledge to step right into the presidency. And no amount of clever campaigning by Barack Obama in the short time left will make up for what he lacks.

  • catherine

A speech will never be a resume of leadership experience and Obama just does NOT have the resume. Sorry.

    • Fred

      Also keep in mind:

… you can’t use teleprompters during the debates…

      • Uña de Gato

Obama will have his answers tattooed to the inside of his eyelids, count on it!

      • Ai1een

I heard this FUNNY thing listening to REPUBLICAN radio in my car this afternoon (see what this campaign season has done to me?)

A caller called in saying that the name of the stadium tonight should be renamed “INREZKO FIELD”

How very, very true…if it wasn’t for REZKO and all the corrupt Arab ties – Obama wouldn’t have been standing there giving his speech…on INREZKO FIELD.

      • doctorwang

Nor will there be any “cones of silence” to evade.

        • RR

Boo-hoo. Don’t like being cheated? Then you should have thought about that before you helped Obama CHEAT his way into the nomination.

    • Tyrione

Sorry Susan. You don’t borrow the opponent’s game plan in the State Semi-finals, for the Finals and declare it your Vision for America that has been your vision.

I made my decision, back in February. If not Clinton, then McCain.

      Done.

      • Tyrione

“…it your Vision for America that has been your vision.”

        replace:

…it your Vision for America as if we don’t know it’s not.”

      • http://www.greensunshine.net jadwiga

Sorry, Bill Clinton did – successfully. He borrowed shamelessly from Ross Perot. (It doesn’t make me love him less!)

McCain’s speech has to be very good.

McCain’s opening is that Obama promises and never delivers.

McCain’s health insurance is actually much better than Obama’.

Excellent VP coice would be Gen. Powell. The AA community would have a choice. They would start to think about issues instead of color.

A woman may please us somewhat but which woman is as good as Hillary?

Between the two they wouldn’t have much experience in economics, but it is the same for Obama.

BTW, where is the nearest 527 to donate to? We will need them. The Ayers connection is brewing.

The ‘infanticide’ vote is a huge deal for most of America. It is a really really disgusting story.

        • Tyrione

Sorry, but running your own state for 12 years gives one a Governing perspective, not to mention Perot borrowed all of his solutions from IBM and the Auto Industries.

Nothing Perot did was spectactular, unless you consider massive Government Contracts to build up his entire bulk of wealth as being particularly interesting or innovative and full of solutions.

        • Jimmy

No African American wants to stand in the way of the Possible First Black President, NOT Powell, NOT Rice.

          • Hope Floats

            Good point.

        • Obama is a bum

“Excellent VP coice would be Gen. Powell”

It would have been for Obama since we expect Powell to endorse Obama.

The majority of black Republicans are voting for Obama. There is even speculation that J.C. Watts will support Obama. Is there anyone left who still wants to pretend blacks are not voting based on color?

          • Diana

I already posted about this. Tim Powlenty has left Denver and flown to where the rally is tomorrow. He was supposed to stay in Denver till the end of the weekend. Cancelled all his appointment and appearances for tomorrow. Several newspapers are saying he is the VP pick.

            • Obama is a bum

I felt it would be Pawlenty about a week ago. I read Republican sites and McCain is in a tough situation on this pick. There are no good picks for McCain to boost his position. McCain wants Lieberman but the conservatives would not support this. Some like Romney but others don’t. Pawlenty is only 47 and a Governor but not well known. McCain may feel he has a chance at Minnesota with him.

Most conservatives seem gung-ho about Palin. I would not be surprised if she runs for President in 2012. If Obama wins this year then it may be Palin as the first woman president rather than Clinton. Obama would screw things up so royally that the Republicans should be able to win easily in 2012.

              • Hope Floats

Bobby Jindal will probably run in 2012, and conservatives think he is the next Reagan. They just say that, don’t ask me why. He is the most interesting and charismatic Republican of the newer school. Eric Cantor, Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal will probably make some headlines for the next few years. The party is promoting them.

I think it’s going to be Gov. Tim Pawlenty for VP. He and McCain are very good friends. He’s kind of a policy wonk and would enjoy the job. He’s young, new and not a Beltway insider. McCain will go after Congress as he campaigns, talking about reigning in spending, reform and the need for balanced government. Pawlenty would complement this message. He has excellent conservative credentials, too, and his wife is likable and interesting. He himself is very polite and would deflect the criticism of McCain’s temper, providing a calm voice in debates.

          • urabsurd

“Is there anyone left who still wants to pretend blacks are not voting based on color?”

Is there a woman here that still wants to pretend they’re not voting based upon their uterus?

    • Hispana

Where was MLK in this speech? The humble servant that actually worked and believed in his message. 143 days as a US Senator is not what I believe as experience to be POTUS. There is a problem with the flip flopping and the lack of judgement when it comes to his “friends and acquaintances.” Of course my all time favorite, POTUS cannot vote present because he has to think about what the issues are.

      • Hope Floats

Tonight was all about the white undecided voters. Didn’t you catch that with the music and the montage? CNN even helped you along and mentioned whites quite a few times. They’re worried about Ohio.

        • imustprotest

          Ohio is the key.

          • http://www.greensunshine.net jadwiga

The voting fraud is already in the working.

            • imustprotest

You’re right. Watch the absentee ballots. They’re rigging the voter registration in Ohio. No ID required. Thank you Gov. Strickland, by the way, how’s that kool aid taste for you Govenor?

              • doctorwang

Strickland worked to reform the election process.

                • Hope Floats

He did a bang up job.

                  • beebop

Acorn is already in the headlines here.

                  • http://deleted Kathleen

                    Hope Floats,

Election reform advocates have been working in Ohio and around the country for years to fix the broken elections process. It has always been the citizens who have done the leg work in trying to achieve election reform. Unfortunately, most, if not all election officials haven’t a clue about the many security issues that have made our elections literally open for business.

I can assure you that if a machine counts the votes, then there is no way to accurately audit the outcome to confirm its accuracy or lack thereof “before” the winner is announced. Despite the citizens in Ohio and all over the country have protested and fought hard for election reform, the elections process is still far from being repaired and as a result, the obama camp will do whatever they can to game the system in all of the swing states much like they did during the caucus process.

This is why those of us who don’t want an obama presidency must vote in great numbers for McCain, because it’s harder to cheat when it’s not a close election.

              • elsie

Don’t insult us here in Ohio. Our governor is a strong Hillary supporter. He never auditioned for a VP post so he is totally independent of the Obama political machine.. The only cheaters in elections here in Ohio are the republicans and I hope they cheat again this time to defeat Obama…. I truly believe that it will happen..

                NoBama in Ohio

                • http://baseballn00b.blogspot.com/ tps12

The only cheaters in elections here in Ohio are the republicans and I hope they cheat again this time to defeat Obama….

Spoken like a true Republican. I can’t believe some of you lunatics still pretend to be Democrats.

                  • RR

So a Republican calling Republicans cheaters is evidence that this is a Republican site? WTF? You’re so eager to brush off the criticism as Republican lies, and yet you were one of those Obamabots who used Republican tactics to beat Hillary in the primaries AND you all worked with Republicans to help him win all those caucuses. How does it feel to get it so very WRONG this time around? You Obamabots sure enjoyed screwing up a sure-thing for the Democratic party this year. You could have let Hillary take back the WH easily and THEN pave the way for an experienced Obama to come in after her.

But no, you wanted him no matter how illogical it was to force him into the WH this year. You wanted your celebrity candidate that wasn’t a woman, but with all her strengths, which makes you a woman-hating sexist pig.

Welcome to the real world, buddy.

          • Diana

No one I know in Ohio is voting for Obama. I’ll just put it this way I have one great-grandmother that had 16 children. One that had 18 children. I’m not positive how many my great grandparents had on my father’s side, but he has 5 brothers. They’re also Catholics. When my mother’s mother. My grandmother died last year it was almost a full page ad just to list her decendents. I have 9 brothers and sisters. As I said big Catholic families. Almost all of them were/are Democrat. My mother who also has 7 brothers and sisters, also has 23 grown grandchildren, and several that aren’t old enough to vote. Every single one I’ve talked to are now voting for McCain. So they might just make a small dent in there someplace.

            • dpvegas

You can add all my in-laws to that list, and it becomes an even bigger dent!

        • karen Anderson

Interesting they played country music after Obama’s speech, not Stevie Wonder. Trying to go after white working class voters perhaps? I found the speech flat and uninspiring. Sorry, it’s not because I’m biased against the candidate (which I am, but I sincerely tried to overlook thatO, it’s because I was so inspired by Hillary’s masterpiece of a barn burner, Bill’s mesmerizing appeal to voters, and Al Gore’s very substantial speech earlier today. Obama recitation of talking points was frankly, a bit boring. I don’t get the feeling that he really truly relates to the plights of average Americans. The entire speech was peppered with “I will do this.” and You are feeling this and experiencing this and suffering this, etc..” I felt like he is inherently distant from my real concerns and was just reciting token phrases we could have heard from any other generic democrat. Plus I didn’t like his accusation that McCain is a coward regarding Osama bin Laden’s cave. What did he mean by that?????

          • s. hall

karen — Obama is an empty suit looking for a body. He isn’t believable because he tries to be everyone but himself. So he had a good speechwriter and he delivers his speech well. He doesn’t mean a thing he says.

          • doctorwang

Ask McCain- he supposively knows how to get Bin Laden (too bad he doesn’t share that knowledge with our military).

            • Hope Floats

              He’s not the CIC… yet.

    • Ai1een

      Susan –

That’s not quite a fair representation when you say Romney has less political experience b/c he only served 4 years as Governor.

Obama served 7 years as Illinois State Senator, but that is a VERY minimal part time job…only 55 days a year as a matter of fact. 55 x 7 = 385 days

Obama only served 143 days as a U.S. Senator before announcing his run for the Presidency. He has done virtually nothing since that announcement except run for President.

Therefore , Obama has basically only worked about 528 days of political service as a state AND U.S. Senator before announcing his run for the Presidency.

Being a Governor? 365 days a year for 4 years = 1,460 days of service and LET’S NOT FORGET OR DOWNPLAY THIS – being a Governor is a 24 hour/7 days a week JOB. A Governorship is a “mini-Presidency” of a state and is considered actually the BEST forum to train for being President.

I respectfully disagree with that assessment that Romney has less political experience.

      • frenchman47

Man, what’s the deal – is Wisconsin the only state in the country that expects its legislators to work more than a few months out of the year????????? I thought Texas (and therefore Bush’s experience as Gov.) was bad enough with their very part-time legislative schedule; sounds like Illinois is even worse. Wisconsin legislative sessions run throughout the year and mirror Congress. No wonder so many states struggle to get anything accomplished; their legislative bodies aren’t in session enough to get much of anything done apparently. I’m appalled.

I don’t know; Romney is too much like so many other Republican legislators – businessmen/women who want to run government the way they run a business; we see how well that’s worked – think privatization of our responsibilities in Iraq, HMO’s, deregulation, capitalism run amok – the mortgage industry, etc., etc. Romney didn’t do the people of Massachusetts any big favors, I doubt he’d do any better as VP. McCain should pick someone ‘fresh.’ He already has name recognition, is viewed as a maverick, is a patriot, and has tons of experience. He doesn’t Need to fill in his resume and I think voters would like to see him with a younger person as his VP candidate. Besides, lots of Evangelicals have a Big problem with Mormons; no need to tick them off by picking Romney if McCain doesn’t need him and he really doesn’t.

      • Jim S

I’m voting for McCain because he is not Obama!
        I’m not voting for VP.

        • JoseyJ

Our family is voting against the Dem Party in the presidential race due to their Nazi tactics during the primary and fixing the nomination for Obama before the primary began.

    • Diana

Exactly I was just thinking…who are we supposed to vote for his and Michelle’s speech writers? Because one thing I do know those weren’t his or Michelle’s words!

      • Ai1een

I can’t tell you how profoundly disappointed and disillusioned I was tonight when even republicans such as Pat Buchannan applauded Obama’s speech as the best convention speech in 40 years (or words to that effect)and of more concern – then taking that speech and EQUATING it with TRUE action. (?)

Anyone can give a speech – however, SINCE WHEN HAS AN OBAMA SPEECH EVER BEEN BACKED UP WITH HIS TRUE ACTIONS?

Obama is on record in his speeches saying that he would filabuster FISA…well – we all know how he REALLY ended up voting on FISA and it didn’t have any bearing on the words he promised in his speeches.

Obama also stumped around the country talking about NAFTA and then sent an Obama representative to Canada telling them – don’t pay attention to what he’s saying…those are “JUST WORDS”.

It bothers me when these experienced, knowledgable pundits fall for CRAPOLA…it’s reminescent of Obama’s RACE IN AMERICA speech – a total fraud pulled on the American public.

        • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

When others who make millions from your campaign write your speech and you are reading from a teleprompter, even a 5 year old sounds good.

          Obama=Bush 3.

        • Hope Floats

The media is obsessed with reliving the 60′s (their youth for the most part.) This is a civil rights movement, and Obama is a compelling political figure. He and his family are interesting to most Americans.

However, Obama’s entire political career was spent in Hyde Park for the most part but well within the Chicago machine. He s just wrong for this country. It’s probably going to get ugly soon, which is why he’s going on about the upcoming campaign attacks and whether he’s presidential. He knows they are actually going to dig up his record. And it’ll get ugly fast.

          • JoseyJ

Obama was in full bamboozling mode last night.
The speech was a longer polished stump speech.
But for those who are fascinated with fireworks and techno-stuff – and haven’t heard previous Dem nomination speeches – it probably sounded awesome.
But did Obama say HOW he’d pay for all of it?
No – he just said he had a plan to pay for it – taking from corporations.
            ha!
Surely the corporate media (and their corporate sponsors) that has promoted Obama from the gitgo – knew he was lying.

        • It’s Not Me

They’re building him up to knock him down. There really is a method to their madness.

The MSM is corporate owned. Corporations aren’t fond of Democrats…we make them pay their fair share in taxes and they hate paying taxes. The Republican Corporations that own the MSM are just foaming at the mouth to unleash all the BO garbage. BO’s fall from grace will be HUGE and deliberate…bank on it.

The Clinton’s were generous to Barack in outlining core Democratic values and issues. They handed him the road map to victory, and it was up to him to take it. I’m glad to hear he did to some extent. Now, if he could only demonstrate that he actually believes in these core values and issues, he might increase his poll numbers.

      • http://deleted Kathleen

obama learned his tactics in achieving power from Saul Alinsky.

Nothing he says or does is based on principle or conviction, it’s based on gaining power.

obama is dangerous and he will not be good for America. he is surrounded by “one world government” men who will do anything to destroy the soverignty of American and make this world a corporation controlled by the few over the masses.

        obama must lose in November.

    • Leisa

I don’t feel his convictions behind his words. He feels manufactured.

He is now trying to be Hillary, but he lacks the passion and commitment she has.

And as far as his line about John McCain not getting it, he sure seems to get why so many Democrats resist Obama…

That line was actually has very telling, about Obama.

    • Sad Sad

You people still hate Obama just because he beat Clinton. That is sad. you saw it last night, he gave the best speech a politician has ever done. He is ready to be President and the country needs him now. Your obsession with Clinton blinds you from this fact.

      • JoseyJ

        Greatest speech evah? no way!
Read Pres. Johnsons’s 1964 nomination speech – forcefully advocating for civil rights – voting rights for ALL – equality for ALL!
Very bold and courageous – at the time.
And opened the door wider for Dr. King.

      • It’s Not Me

He is not ready to be President. What makes him qualified for the job? Being a community organizer? I think not. Name ONE THING he has done for this country that makes him qualified to be President.

I bet it doesn’t make the top 100 on Americanrhetoric.com. Barky has zero in the top 100. Bill Clinton has 2 and Hillary clinton has 1. When I hear people say Obama is a great orator, I laugh.

        • ces

The “top 100″ on americanrhetoric.com are the top 100 speeches of the 20th century there are no speeches past 1999 on that list. Both President Clinton’s and then First Lady Clinton’s speeches on the top 100 were from 1995.

It isn’t surprising there isn’t anything from Obama on that list. For that matter I believe President Clinton, Vice President Gore, and Senator Clinton have given some very good speeches since 1999 as well.

I listened a bit on the way home. Obama flubbed it a few times when the cheers of his devotees caused him to lose his place reading off the teleprompter.

    • Ellen D

I walked in in the middle after work just as he got to the I’ll do this and I’ll do that (WOW! All by himself!) and before he said “this isn’t about me.” It was so much NOT ABOUT HIM that he used the pronoun “I” 84 times!

      • TeakwoodKite

        Ellen, Thanks for that BOtoid!

At one point – there was a big gap like a transition had been missed.
Maybe he skipped a segment due to TV time constraints – or maybe he lost his place.

But the glitz, oppulence, and grandiosity was tacky.
The fireworks went on much too long….

Another commentator also noted that Obama’s line — “It’s not that John McCain doesn’t care, it’s that he doesn’t get it.” — was exceptional.

      • Jason

Its not stolen from American President – I think this is the quote the person was thinking of, which is part of a much longer, excellent monologue:

“I’ve known Bob Rumson for years, and I’ve been operating under the assumption that the reason Bob devotes so much time and energy to shouting at the rain was that he simply didn’t get it. Well, I was wrong. Bob’s problem isn’t that he doesn’t get it. Bob’s problem is that he can’t sell it! We have serious problems to solve, and we need serious people to solve them. And whatever your particular problem is, I promise you, Bob Rumson is not the least bit interested in solving it. He is interested in two things and two things only: making you afraid of it and telling you who’s to blame for it.”

    • Obama is a bum

I’d like to know who made this idiotic statement since it seems inane unless he can back it up with facts. It seems to me that that statement would apply to Obama.

I did not listen to Obama’s speech so what did he claim McCain did not care about and does not get?

It is clear to me that Obama only cares about himself and does not have a clue of what he is talking about and is way out of the mainstream.

      • Annie Oakley

It seems inane to me. It’s snappy, but what does it mean?

“It’s not that John McCain doesn’t care, it’s that he doesn’t get it.”

It could be fleshed out to say, “It’s not that McCain doesn’t mean well, but he doesn’t understand what is going on.” So, is he saying McCain is senile or stupid? He’s nice enough, but incompetent? Which part of Obama’s rocket science of change is too complex for the old guy?

    • Ai1een

Everyone needs to WRITE IN TO THE MCCAIN CAMPAIGN and give them these REFERENCES to the “glorious” STOLEN one liners that the pundits are lauding.

The MCCain Camp then needs to make a hilarious YouTube showing Obama stealing other people’s speeches and showing that the lines tonight were also stolen.

      Could end with something like:

“Barack, THAT isn’t change – in fact, your words, your ‘lines’ have all been said before. When is ‘change’ just a stolen promise?”

GIVE THEM YOUR IDEAS & then be sure you mention you’re a Hillary supporter – they’re REALLY trying to win us over and know they need to do it immediately.

      • not this time

Hillary tried that once, you know with the line “change you can xerox”…we all see where that got her

    • Jim S

Axlerod is a huge movie fan. Not for the films themselves, but for the script. If you read the transcript of Obama’s speeches you’ll find lines from different films. Example: “together we can!”, from the Duval Patrick campaign came from “The Matrix”. Axlerod figured it worked for Patrick so he changed it a little and we got “yes we can!”.

      • HillStar

“Yes we can” or the Spanish version, “SI Se Puede” is a labor saying from Caesar Chavez. I have dozens of T-shirts and buttons from my union with the English and Spanish versions and they all predate this primary.

Hillary first used the phrase in Nevada as that is the rally cry of the Culinary Workers in UNITE HERE (all of the casino workers). Obama then used it in one of his speeches, and his young followers with no sense of history took it to be an original slogan. Then Will-I-Am used it as the reoccurring line in his YouTube Music video.

Not original but also has nothing to do with the Matrix. If Obama said “I have a dream,” a good number of his supporters would probably think he wrote that as well.

  • http://dianej.wordpress.com DianeJ

You know what i noticed – both Bidden ( last night ) and Obama (tonight) spoke about Obama’s mother side of the family but he failed to mention his father’s side of the family ex. grandmother in Kenya………hmmmmmmmm. Am I correct?

    • Uña de Gato

what was the line? His father was “absent.” Not Obama’s fault, but his father’s history was totally glossed over.

    • PewL

They did say his father from Kenya, and MOther from Kansas…Fox also had biography, and his mother went to Kenya to live and marry, because she was three months pregnant, when she married obama’s father..They lived in Kenya for two years, and than separated.

      • elise

If they are saying he was born in Kenya, I hope they have proof because that makes him ineligible to be POTUS.

    • Hispana

Or the brother that is ashamed of him and lives on less than $1 p/day.

      • JML

The bio film most interestingly did not mention the stepfather who adopted him and took he and his mother to live for a time in Indonesia.

        • wry

Because if they mentioned that she married foreign Muslim men back to back and spent most of her adult life in Asia, then where would the “single mother on food stamps” come into play?

          • JML

            Right you are.

          • Jim S

Not a Muslim in the crowd.

Also, why is it Obama always says he came from a single parent family, when the grandafather and grandmother supposedly raised him.
Sounds like he’s trying to appear that he came from a hard luck family like Clinton. SOmeone from the washington post said Obama’s dad left after he was born-not 2.

If you knew for sure that today was your last day on earth is this how you would be spending it???

    • Diana

I never heard him talk about his family in Kenya either. Is he afraid more people are going to find out about Raila and what happened with him? Knowing that there are published articles that he held up his speech in PA to take a phone call from him. Published articles that he campaigned for him in 2006. Held up his speech to take a call from a man accused of genocide for 600 people being burned alive in churches. Sure thing I’ll jump right on that bandwagon.

      • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

Obama’s cousin in Kenya Odinga was caught in 1982 trying to overthrow the Kenyan govenment. Recently Odinga ran for president of Kenya and lost. Odinga wanted to bring Sharia Muslim law to Kenya.

Obama SUPPORTED his cousin until the elections started here.

        • Ai1een

That’s true – Obama DID SUPPORT his cousin and his cousin absolutely wanted to bring Sharia Muslim law to Kenya.

Obama backed away from all that when he began his campaigning.

          • Ai1een

Remember when Obama revisited Africa awhile back? He promised a school there (which was named after him) that he would support it because they were lacking supplies, etc. Everyone in the village rejoiced and they even built on extra lab space because Barack Obama mentioned that he was concerned that they didn’t have microscopes, etc.

The entire village was so happy…only problem? No money ever came from Barack Obama. In fact, according to the magazine article, they never heard one more word or received one cent from Barack Obama. (Will try to find the article link.)

    • JoseyJ

From the video prior to the speech – the viewer wasn’t given a TIMELINE of Obama’s life.
Just various pics of him here and there during his childhood – but no sequence.
Obama uses “single mother” as often as McCain uses P.O.W. – but his grandmother raised him! – and she wasn’t on welfare.
Obama always attended private schools – never public.

      • csuzeq

Ok, let’s keep in mind the meaning of fraud:

Definition: [n] something intended to deceive; deliberate trickery intended to gain an advantage
[n] intentional deception resulting in injury to another person
[n] a person who makes deceitful pretenses

Still a fraud no matter how your look at him, in ancient Greece, Chicago or Washinton DC, still a fraud!

“I fear susan is beginning to succumb to the dark side.”

She had already started moving that way with her anti-McCain posts this week, but this post takes the cake with its prediction that Obama could win by a “landslide.” Huh? Am I really reading NoQuarter here?

Even if all Democrats fall in line (which they won’t), half the country is still conservative and will vote McCain. This will be a very close election no matter what.

I did not watch the speech, and I don’t think everyone will. So for any good feelings Susan may have gotten, when she was apparently sucked in by Obama’s NLP/hypnotic speech techniques, won’t apply to most Americans.

I was out this evening, not even in front of my television.

          • MrMike

That prediction was made by Chucky Kraphammer not Susan, reading comprehension is good 4U.

            • wonderwoman

That’s sounds like a strange thing to say from Charles. Today he’s written something different about Obama. What’s with the republicans say what Obama should say. Hello-we don’t want him to win.

          • Bellevue_NW_Voter

            Hillary or Bust said:

I did not watch the speech, and I don’t think everyone will. So for any good feelings Susan may have gotten, when she was apparently sucked in by Obama’s NLP/hypnotic speech techniques, won’t apply to most Americans.

And that is one of the reasons I did not watch/listen tonight, and will read the written version instead. Otherwise, it’s just asking to be manipulated. (Skeptical? Some churches spend tens of thousands on their sound systems and lightings because they know there is a return on that kind of investment. I’ve studied communication theory for a couple decades and I know how easy it is to be affected even when you know all the tricks and intend not to be. How much did Owhathisname spend on the Greco-Roman temple? I’ll stick with the words on paper, thank you.)

It’s occurred to me that it might be fun to dissect Obama’s speeches from the NLP/hypnotic communication angle, though. For those of you who haven’t heard of it, NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming, and one way to define it is, “the use of language and other communication methods to create (oh, sorry to say this word) change.” Now, we know from watching him that his on-the-fly use of language to create change isn’t a strong point (that’s why he has speech writers), but he gets points for flexibility in delivery of the words provided to him.

Obama’s delivery style often tends toward “pulpit”, which as noted above is a common environment in which to find NLP-type methods in use. My partner and I would occasionally tune in a televangelist for sport and compete with each other to see who could identify the most communication tricks being used.

            • http://www.greensunshine.net jadwiga

I watched the whole speech to learn. My husband and my son was totally sucked in. I have worked on my son, he is waking up. My husband will need at least a week to cool down.
Unfortunately enough this was a very good speech.
He had lots of holes in the facts, but as a whole, the speech was good.

What’s up with the Ayers papers?

            • wry

That’s why I don’t watch, and I only read the transcripts. Without his pretty face and oratory, he’s a big nothing.

Michelle needs to stop dressing her 10 TEN year old like a woman. Just because she’s tall and can wear teen age dresses, doesn’t mean she should. And she STRAIGHTENS her little girls hair!

              Bellevue_NW-Voter,

Trinity Church actually advertises speech classes given at their church on their website. From what i’ve heard from acquaintances in Chicago, they very much were training participants to give speeches in the MLK -AA gospel style – that particular cadence; I guess for the neuro-linguistic programming that you mention.

Obama very much knows what he’s doing.

            • Jim S

I agree, you have to read a speech to find out what was actually said. As for the backdrop for his speech, that was a waste. Very rarely did they show anything other than a closeup of Obama, negating the visual effect for anyone other than those present. He took such a beating in the press for the backdrop that they realized it couldn’t be used, hence the tight shots.

            • Grail Guardian

Does anybody know if Obama or his handlers are in contact with Tony Robbins? He’s made millions coaching people in NLP, and has been known during his seminars to test the crowd for political leanings (We need to split up for this exercise: Republicans stand on the right side of the room, Democrats stand on the right, Independents stay in the middle.) As far as the hypnosis aspect of NLP, I’ve personally been in an auditorium with about 800 people while Robbins reads a passage and 80% of the room falls into a deep trance (Several of us had to dive to stop one poor woman from falling out of her seat.), so don’t discount it as BS; it works.

To paraphrase from Indiana Jones, No matter what you hear Marion, don’t look at it!. I fear Susan took a little peek…

csuzeq, we only have three options left unless someone can prove the charges made against Obama or people see him flop in the debates. We can; stay home, vote McCain or vote Obama. Many, including myself, will never vote for Obama, but if Susan has decided to vote for him, it would be good to have respect for her choice. As long as she doesn’t do a TM and lay into Hillary’s supporters, I don’t have a problem with that. What do you want to do, then? Ban her? Larry said people with opinions either way are welcome here and this site has always been fair. I don’t like Romney at all, but he has more administrative experience in government than Obama, who has none. Being a legislator requires a different skill set than being an executive. Karl Rove had some interesting things to say about the speech, and just how the Republicans are going to try and deflate Obama’s so-called policy proposals. To me, the red meat he was tossing out was fake steak, and I kept asking: and how are we going to pay for all that? It’s all a matter of strategic timing. The man is a gifted political strategist. I hadn’t realized exactly how gifted until tonight’s speech, when he revealed his commitment to a set of mainstream democratic policies and objectives.

Had he done that earlier, he wouldn’t have come through the primaries. Had he debated McCain earlier, he would have had to fully define himself before he was ready.

I don’t see it that way ziggy. He was backed into a corner by Hillary, Bill and their supporters.
He had no choice but to deliver a speech filled with definitions.

He would have preferred an inspirational speech, but that horse won’t run anymore. Now, like Bush 1′s “Read my lips,” everything he promised will come back to haunt him if he doesn’t deliver it.

        And how can he?

        • Hope Floats

He was just waiting till she was officially out of the race and would endorse him. He doesn’t mean a word of it – compare their records. But he and his wife have long hated both Clintons, and narcissist that he is, he knew he would have to try overshadow Bill. That’s why he went all sexist on Hillary; she was determined to run as herself and succeeded toward the end once she connected with voters. He had to keep trying to dismiss her and go after her husband. That was the whole “Hope” thing. And when “Change” was working for her, he tried co-opting that, too. Now he just has a really unbelievable message and plenty of suspicious former Clinton supporters.

      • trails

Ah, but the primary also demonstrated his commitment to his words, which is rather sadly lacking. It’s easy to promise anything to anyone. Actions speak much louder. When he voted for FISA after trashing it throughout his primary campaign, he destroyed his credibility for me. That was not a flip-flop to attract voters. That was action in opposition to his words.

Me? I’m sticking with the pony I came in on.

Come on, PUMAs. It’s over and we all know it. I always enjoy jousting with you but I don’t have the heart for it tonight. Obama laid down the gauntlet to us all tonight in calling Americans to our better selves. He laid down the gauntlet in saying precisely what his domestic and foreign policy priorities will be. He told America exactly where he wants to lead us and why and how he intends to do it. It goes without saying, really, that he and Senator Clinton share pretty much all the same priorities and that Senator McCain stands opposed to virtually all of them. We are one nation, and we will all rise or fall together.

I think he won the election tonight. No surprise to me. Susan, I appreciate the respectful tone of your post tonight. You always write well but tonight I feel a recognition in your words that something inmportant happened to our country. Thank you for that.

There’s not a black America and white America and Latino America and Asian America; there’s the United States of America. The pundits like to slice-and-dice our country into Red States and Blue States; Red States for Republicans, Blue States for Democrats. But I’ve got news for them, too. We worship an awesome God in the Blue States, and we don’t like federal agents poking around our libraries in the Red States. We coach Little League in the Blue States and have gay friends in the Red States. There are patriots who opposed the war in Iraq and patriots who supported it. We are one people, all of us pledging allegiance to the stars and stripes, all of us defending the United States of America.”

Thank you for proving Obama is full of hot air.

          One America?

Is that why Obama attended a racist church for 20 years, got married in that racist church and had his children attend and baptized in that racist church?

Is that why Obama wrote in his autobiography, Dreams of My Father: A Story of Race & Inheritance, “That’s just how white folks will do you.”

Is that why Obama referred to his grandmother as a “typical white person”?

Is that why Obama associated with radicals like Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakhan, Bill Ayers, Father Michael Pflger and Rashid Khalidi?

Is that why Castro, Gaddafi, Kim Jong, Hamas of Gaza, and Hugo Chavez have all voiced support for Obama.

Is that why Obama states he believes in equal pay but pays the women working in his Senate office less than the men working on his staff?

          Obama is a fraud.

        • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hP-YoB5mnZs Ai1een

          sfhillary –

Get real – do you write for a soap opera…do you read Harlequin romances? “History turned a page tonight…” how lame.

All those pretty words you quote – and yet the TRUTH of Obama’s actions is that he didn’t give a flying _UCK for the abject poor in his own constituency.

The Southside of Chicago is a study in abject poverty, yet Obama gave less than 1% of his money to charity – I repeat…LESS THAN 1%..didn’t even financially support his church which (when he was trying to defend his choice to go there ) he said did so many good causes t/o the South Side.

And it is fair and fitting to compare Obama’s charitable giving to Hillary’s and McCain’s for comparing percentages is a TRUE comparison.

Obama cannot hide behind his inconsequential, “We were paying off school loans” excuse – percentage is an apples to apples comparison and Obama PROVED with his greedy less than 1% to charity that he could care less about the poor. (Obama didn’t start giving until he began to run for high ofice.)

Did he care about the poor when he sentenced them to live in the slums owned by his best buddy, Tony Rezko who Obama assisted in garnering his slum housing? No – Obama didn’t care. In fact, he never once visited EVEN ONE Rezko slum in all those years, even though they were lived in by the people he represented…wow – what a noble guy.

When Obama was questioned in the Chicago media, once again the public hears, “I didn’t know”.

Well, it was Obama’s JOB to know (literally)and the slums were within 5 miles of Obama’s home.

Obama DID know – Obama “GOT” what was going on but different from John McCain…Obama DIDN’T care…just as long as Rezko kept bundling in the money for Obama.

That speech was a total CONJOB. How can you continue to be so ignorant to the BS this poser sells you? When are you going to wake up?

Incidentally – Hillary Clinton NEVER wears ORANGE. Color of her pant suit? Orange. Color of the PUMAS? ORANGE.

    • Hill2016

I wholeheartedly agree. It’s time to move on. Hillary wanted a “catharsis” at the convention and we got it. We all know Barack and Michelle aren’t perfect. No one is. But they’re the best we got. Hillary sees that. I, finally, see that. I look forward to Hillary being forever famous for not just her primary run but the universal health care law will be HER law, even Obama has said this. Let’s give the guy a chance.

        You couldn’t be more wrong.

Before, when I heard someone say Democrats were just the same as Republicans, I tore them a new one. But guess what, they were right and I was wrong.

Anyone in either party that would actually do some real good for the country is consistently pushed aside. We’re then left with boot licking twinkies that let us sink deeper in to fascism in exchange for their personal aggrandizement.

So, do we vote for Obama because his lies are more geared towards our sensibilities? Or do we protest against our party in the slim hope that we can somehow shake out the crooks and liars and elect people who really believe in our platform?

I say the latter, or we’re all in deep barkey brownies.

        • ugo

        • Grail Guardian

          Well said.

      • mimi

        Hill2016,

And this is what the DNC leadership was counting on. These kind of loyal Democratic attitudes.

        Well, that’s over for me.

I refuse to let them get away with what they did.

Obama’s speech? Just words. He can read and deliver a speech, but we have no basis for having faith that he can deliver any of these things if elected.

He’s one step closer to his goal. For all we know, he may be a sure bet for the presidency given the cheating they will do.

I’ve watched every Convention except this one since I was kid. They all end the same way. Everyone is euphoric at the Convention and it bleeds over to the tv audience. This year was monumental and everyone wants to have a piece of history. AAs are in 0bama heaven and the msm got their wish: to see the “first” AA as a major Party’s nominee for POTUS.

There are so many tearful pictures of AAs and the guilt-ridden white public is eating it up. Especially after 4 years of Bush who is really the person we can thank for 0bama. He put the country in such a bind with the war and the economy, Americans are desperate for ‘change.’

And when it’s all said and done, people will be disappointed as they always are.

There’s a lot I don’t like about 0bama. He hasn’t shown that he can deal with adversity very well and a POTUS has to be able to deal with that. Tonight in his speech he alluded to the forthcoming attacks. He knows they’re coming and he’s prepping people to circle the wagons around him and Michelle. Did anyone notice that Michelle seemed drained at the end like she had a demeanor of dread.

The Repubs, if they are going to attack, are going to have to be careful. It just might not work this time because of everyone’s pent up feelings about Bush. Remember, people were only unhappy with Clinton over his personal issues. Big difference between being petrified at what is happening to the country.

And so much depends on McCain’s choice. As much as many here want McCain to choose a running mate according to our needs, McCain would be wise to satisfy the base he needs from his Party.

I’m no Republican. And many of the PUMA’s who claim to be for McCain, may switch back at the last minute.

Ultimately, I’m facing the fact that I will never again have feelings for any politician. Obama in a very well delivered speech that impressed many and stirred up the Dems on the last day, pandered to people needing to hear that he is going to look after their interests. As if everything he and his wife have done to date represent their interest in the Democratic base. He said what Democrats needed to hear. He was the crafty lover, who whispers sweet nothings in the ears of women who refuse to accept that the man is a cad.

Frankly, I hope the attacks don’t happen for awhile. The people need to come down from the typical Convention euphoria a bit.

But the one thing I completely disagree with that Susan said is this: I don’t think the next weeks until November are going to be fascinating in the least.

There’s going to be a lot of broken hearts if either candidate loses and I think there are more people like me that are completely disillusioned by the process, who no longer have faith in our elected officials. Every last one of them has failed us on some level politically and personally.

I simply can’t be conned by the hype any longer.

        • sfhillary

Thanks for a really thoughtful post, Mimi. Unlike some here, you sound like a real Democrat. I’m sorry you feel that way about politics now and hope that a few years from now, when President Obama has proven himself and helped lead America toward better times (which I truly believe will happen) you’ll look back on this campaign and feel glad that you were wrong in thinking you’d never have that faith again.

I’m only going to comment on this line of yours:

“He hasn’t shown that he can deal with adversity very well and a POTUS has to be able to deal with that.”

Do you really believe that? Think about all the times Obama has been knocked down in this campaign and where he stands tonight. Think about the toughness he just showed in calling out McCain’s “temperament.” Think about the organization he has built, the executive leadership he has shown to get to where he is.

You think he can’t deal with adversity? Think about that statement and what this man has accomplished in 18 months.

          • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

Yes, having your minions rig the primary is really a hardship.

Obama has lived a privileged life on the taxpayers back.

Obama graduated from the exclusive private Punahou High School in Hawaii. He attended Occidential College, a small private college in Los Angeles. He graduated from Columbia University, a private university in New York City. And, received his law degree from Harvard University, a private university. Both Columbia and Harvard are considered ivy league schools.

His family income was $1.6 million in 2005 and close to $1 million in 2006. He lives in a multi-million dollar home.

Obama has stocks, government paid health care, government paid retirement benefits, and his children go to private school.

Yes, he’s had so many obstacles-NOT!

Biden has accepted $5,133,072 in contributions from lawyers and lobbyists since 2003. Obama does not accept contributions from federally registered lobbyists.

And he has one other weakness that hasn’t received much attention to date. One of Biden’s sons, Hunter, is a registered Washington lobbyist in a year in which Obama has been excoriating lobbyists and the culture of corruption in Washington. The younger Biden is a name partner at the firm Oldaker, Biden & Belair, LLP, and seems to have specialized in lobbying for just the kind of earmark spending by Congress that Obama has vowed to slash. Republican insiders say the party is likely to make an issue of Biden’s family lobbying ties.

Also expect to hear more about Biden’s close ties with credit card companies. His largest contributor (based on total contributions by employees) over the past five years has been MBNA, the Delaware-based bank aquired in 2005 by Bank of America than until then was the world’s largest independent credit card issuer and a major supporter of the 2005 bankruptcy bill that Biden crossed the aisle to support.

I hope the lawsuit brings out the truth about Obama’s citizenship and qualifications to be or not to be President.

It seems to me, that if we are reading the laws correctly even if he was born in Hawaii, he would not be “natural born.”

I also thought the speech tonight was targeted to reach Reagan democrats and more centrist voters.

I hope that he will not win because of his character and questionable alliances and friends, but the Bush years have been bad for America, and if the Republicans are not tenacious and vigilant and eager to expose him, he may make it into the WH.

Those of us who are aware of his flaws that have been exposed here and at other blogs were not able to stop him and the DNC from allowing him to steal the election.

The MSM will not report or expose him. I feel it is a real concern and the Republicans are the only firewall between him and the White House.

There are some disputes as to whether the laws at the time would make him a natural born citizen. His mother would have had to have been a certain age, if his father was a foreigner and then the laws changed over the years since Hawaii had been recently annexed. Stuff like that. I don’t care. I would love to see him disqualified, but I still think he’ll lose anyway.

    • http://nobho.blogspot.com/ Johnny at Work

Obama’s mother regestered him for school as an “Islamic Indonesian”

Barry’s mother renounced his US citizenship. I do not see how a court can rule any different, unless there are other documents from his mother that contradict that one.

      • Jim S

Barry’s father registered him as an Indonesian Muslim and I’ve read nothing of her renouncing citizenship. Anything you can direct us to for verification?

So now he wants to steal adopt Hillary’s platform. The question is why would we go for the pretender when we could have had the genuine article and she was denied her chance. Besides, she could talk about it easily because she had internalized those goals and plans. This guy with his stuttering and no record will still not get my vote.

Yep, no record. But he says FIRST give me the job and then we will see. He seems to have said that with every job he had and bolted from it when karma started to catch up. What will he do in this job after all the lights, cameras, and his chanting minions go away? We already had one like him for the last 8 years. Clinton was a workhorse. McCain seems to be workhorse (only weekends in AZ). At least they won’t be caught off guard or asleep at the switch (remember Katrina?) when that phone rings at 3 am.

  • Uña de Gato

My favorite line from the speech: Eight Is Enough!

And then people started chanting it. Obama looked embarrassed.

i guess someone forgot to explain to the obama neophytes that as of the recently passed ammendment to the consitution, 8 is the maximum you can get.

      • Uña de Gato

Maybe McCain should say something like, “And what Obama doesn’t get is that his policies will bankrupt this country. That’s The Facts of Life!”

        • Ash

          So, this is interesting.

First off, most of the posts on here are angry about Obama “stealing” Hillary’s policies. This was after months of clamoring how the “Obamabots” were lying about the policy difference between the two not being that great.

Now this post is very interesting. The policies that Hillary and Obama have both stood for since the campaign began almost two years ago (that’s, what, eighteen months you’ve had to go to Obama’s web site and look at his policy proposals and say “Huh, they are very similar”) now will bankrupt America (but McCain’s hundred years in Iraq won’t. I’m not even going to attempt to untwist the logic here).

No, I’m going to go back to my first assessment: no matter whether it was Hillary or Obama that got the nod, most of those here were going to vote for John McCain.

          • Uña de Gato

Whatever floats your boat. It seems you convince yourself of your own opinion quite easily.

          • Mr. X

Uhh… When you steal a speech, it’s still stealing. That’s why Obama is corrupt. He doesn’t hold those views. But I bet you believe he’ll come through on those issues, right? RIGHT???!!! HAHAHA!! You’ve been bamboozled.

FISA! NAFTA! infanticide! public financing! Iraq war! etc. etc.

He’s changed his mind on everything. He keeps bamboozling and you keep asking to be bamboozled even more. It’s truly amazing.

BTW, it’s funny how you believe that Obama has policies close to Hillary’s, yet don’t understand that it’s foolish to not go with the original architect (aka Hillary). A hack like Obama is a hack is a hack.

          • TeakwoodKite

You need some Frankincense to go with that assumption?

            So, this is interesting.

I am glad something is but you are not.

No, I’m going to go back to my first assessment: no matter whether it was Hillary or Obama that got the nod, most of those here were going to vote for John McCain.

I wish you would go back to Guyana. Anyone who is voting for John McCain is far more intelligent than you for still supporting Obama. I have been wise to Obama long before most have. At this point you are still on your hands and knees with your nose up Obama’s ass which means you just don’t get it.

            • Ash

Hey, if only people more intelligent than me vote for John McCain, I’ll put my Mensa membership card on the table and enjoy the 98-2 drubbing Obama gives him.

I took it that he was talking about his racial make up that he was black, I guess Obama did not notice when he was looking out at the 80,000 present the majority of people there were not white.

Obama also seem to have forgotten that none of the candidate that he ran against in the primary were black either, so exactly what is this nonsense about pedigree when a whole lot of white votes helped him to get the nomination.

    • Obama is a bum

The white people who helped him are his useful idiots.

  • John Smith

So what he changed his tune once again to pander to a different class of people. How is that going to help him with his devoted followers. You think when he starts taking about health care that he will keep his current group of cult members still interested. People just don’t get it. Especially the MSM very few people actually watched that speech. People don’t vote for a candidate because of a speech they wrote for him because what their gut is telling them and my gut is telling me this guy is rotten to the core. So having rosy analysis of how he read a speech that someone else wrote for him somehow will erase all the crazy things his done and said over the last 8 months is very naive. Well unless you are supporting him but is definitely not objective.

  • csuzeq

Obama isn’t going to win any voters. How is he going to win someone like me who is so opposed to him that I can’t stomach listening to any of it? No. The best he can do is maintain those he has. McCain is the real deal and is gaining voters daily.

Most people see through a fraud before too long. I talk to people all the time who say something is just not right with this guy! They can’t always put their finger on it, but they do not have good feelings about him.

    • Ash

Your right. Obama supporters are too stupid to read but the polls show that Barry hasn’t been picking up votes over the last 2 months but McCain has. Hussein has about 75% of Dems support same as 2 months ago while over 20% support McCain, he has 6% of Republicans supporting him while McCain has 89% supporting him (up from 2 months ago) and McCain leads with independents 47% – 45% up from 2 months ago. More crossover votes and more independents for McCain.

      • ziggy

This will likely be the week that the poll trends have permanently shifted. Check them later this afternoon.

I suspect we’ll see Obama open up a lead that McCain won’t be able to close. They’ve been working their butts off for weeks, just struggling to close the gap. From this point forward, as Obama further defines his policies he’ll gain in the polls. As McCain defines his policies, people are going to like what they’re seeing even less. It’s not so much about John as his policies.

        • dpvegas

Struggling to close the gap? It’s been effortless on their part. Barky speaks without a teleprompter and Sen. McCain’s ratings go up. That’s not struggling.

  • Angelita

Well, he certainly didn’t “take it to the mountain”, did he? Could have been any Democrat’s speech. Pretty, ho hum IMHO.

Certainly turned out to have a WHOLE lot of white blood running through his veins in his bio, didn’t he? In fact, because of the race cards he’s played, along with the race-baiting, and his manipulation of the AA population, he really proved tonight just HOW MUCH he has used them.

Did you see any of his relatives in Kenya that he is so proud of – those family members who make his global citizen case? I sure didn’t. No Indonesian nor Hawaiian mention. Just Kansas, and brief mention of Kenyan father – outside of the African continent. Wow. If I were AA I would be insulted, surprised, betrayed. Sort of like a Hillary supporter.

What a spectacle. My, my, my…how we do like bling. And Oprah has sunglasses with “Obama” in diamonds on the sides. Works well with the poverty theme, doesn’t it?

McCain to the rescue. Really, Mother Nature to the rescue in the form of Hurricane Gustav and possibly Hannah. This twist of fate gives McCain an opportunity to PROVE he puts Country before Party, and is a leader in times of a crisis, by the possible postponement of the Republican convention. He can show his Commander-in-Chief ability during a national emergency.

Also gives him time to make the Republican convention be fresh, not stale on the heels of BHO’s Barnum & Bailey Circus. Chance to outshine BHO on issues that matter to people. Packed stadiums don’t pay the bills.

Since I vote for the Presidential candidate, not the VP, I really don’t care who McCain selects. Romney is one I thought would be good for his financial background, so him as VP would certainly not make me turn away from voting for McCain. Romney has a beautiful family, and I so enjoyed watching his boys campaign for him during the primaries. Is he the perfect choice? There is no such thing. So I will live with whomever McCain choses, as the alternative of Barack Obama in the White House is much more frightening to me than any choice Mccain could ever make.

He gave an excellent “standard” stump speech. We will see where this will get him. My feeling is that the Dems (I almost said “we”) have a wimp ticket — bHo the true loser of the primary and Biden with way less than 1% of the vote — and not much in his earlier attempt. Any one of McCain’s picks I think has more experience and pizazz (sp).

One irony on the moving anniversary of MLK’s speech is that bHo’s ancestors are slave owners on his mother’s side and slave raiders-traders on his father’s side, in league with Arabs. The whole Civil Rights movement made me so proud of America and hopeful for democracy in a way that little else besides WW II has done. I cannot find one iota of these sentiments in the candidacy of bHo. And it is not just his association with terrorists that will move the electorate to doubt. In the one CEO job he had in his entire life, Chicago Annenberg Challenge, he gave money to maoists (Klonsky) and leftist “community” groups or schools with “ethnic” programs and refused funds to schools that wanted to improve algebra, or science, or any skills or life of the mind. Both the CAC and national Annenberg concluded that the efforts were a failure. Add this rep to that of his radical left-wing friends and associates and his money grubbing Chicago corruption career and Americans might want to remain red rather than turn blue.

She knew at the time what those anti-abortion bills were really about. I certainly knew about it. I was surprised it wasn’t a bigger issue back then.

Why is it becoming an issue now? McCain? Glad it is, but it should have been a huge deal during the primaries.

        • http://www.barrysoetoro.com Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright

Because in the primaries, while its a contact sport you avoid the really shitty stuff cause you dont want to completely destroy the party brand in case the jerk who you are running against steals the nom.

In the general there are no rules of civility.

While the MSM and the DNC could cover Obummers ass during the primaries nothings going to stop the Republicans from vetting this fraud fully in front of the american public.

By the time they are through with him there wont be much left. And its not because the RNC is so EVIL, its because Obummer has so much shit in his past thats its going to be Christmas in September October and November for the RNC.

  • Uña de Gato

He will get a decent bump in the polls from this little remake of Triumph of the Will.i.am. If McCain goes with Pawlenty, he will cut into that lead quite effectively. Obama, in many ways, set himself up with this speech. There are so may ways to attack him on his policy proposals, not to mention that there is still no evidence of his ability to actually achieve anything that he promised so grandiosely.

If McCain goes with Pawlenty, he will cut into that lead quite effectively.

If who does what with which, then what now? How is that gonna work, Gato? What would Pawlenty add to the Republican ticket? How would that lift McCain up?

          Regarding Obama:

“He gives a great teleprompter speech, but when the teleprompter gets turned off, he’s not so hot,” Pawlenty said.

  • Peggy Sue

One of the things that struck me was Obama saying how willing and eager he was to debate McCain. He’s had the last two months to join John McCain in cross country townhall meetings, yet failed to do so. The Saddlebrook Forum was not Obama’s shining hour.

Lots of promises tonight. Very few specifics on how all this “change” will come about. I did not hear any new ideas. What I heard was the standard Dem line that I have listened to and bought into for many, many years. Except this time, I heard it from someone I have absolutely no confidence in.

Promises are easy. How you get there is a whole lot harder. I still feel I’m listening to a snake oil salesman. I am not convinced. I am not a believer.

    • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

Obama is a coward. He is too afraid to debate McCain.

He has already shown that he does not have the aptitude to debate an experienced and competent individual like McCain.

One of the things that struck me was Obama saying how willing and eager he was to debate McCain.

Yeah, right. He got his *ss kicked by a woman on national tv during the primary and now he’s about to his his *ss kicked again by a 72 year old. I’ll be counting your uhhhhh as you stutter your way through three debates. Good luck with that barry.

I guess this speech represents Hillary’s new role in promoting Obama. Give him the content for the speeches that targets middle America when he is as far from middle America as they come. She is being used and we are being fooled that these ideas are his when indeed they are coming from people with alot more on the ball than Omama. He is just the mouthpiece. Furthermore, the ends does not justify the means. Using fraud, corruption, bullying and racism to win and then giving a speech like we are all one big happy family is disgraceful. NoBama.

    • Brodie

That kind of reminds me of what I call “the happy family lie”- the one families w/secret abuse tell themselves. Everyone sits around the table at holidays & talks about their idyllic childhood, all the while hoping that no one brings up the “800 pound gorilla”. I’m immune to those lies. I don’t care how prettily they are conveyed. A lie is a lie is a lie. Nobama, no how, no way.

  • Ellen D

My husband got a call from the Dems during the speech asking if he’d volunteer for Obama. He told them he not only wasn’t voting for Obama he was leaving the Democratic Party. That upset the lady Dem caller.

    • John House

LOL, sounds awesome. I wish they’d call my place here.

“Fools and children shouldn’t see a thing until it’s done”. The campaign is nowhere near “done”, and the RNC convention is coming right up. Go John McCain! And McCain will kill him at the debates. May I suggest they put Obummer through a metal detector and check those ears for those receiver dealies to ascertain he’s not getting fed answers from the wings.

  • Julius Streicher

How convenient, as the Church Lady might say.

It was a good speech, but there is one problem.

The Chicago sewage that he is soiling the convention’s oriental rugs with.

And another. Does he really have a position that he cannot flip-flop on?

Send the rug-cleaning bill to Pelousi, Coward Dean, and Weak Reid, among others. With postage due.

    What a bunch of losers.

    • Mr. X

Obama’s natural state is to be flip-floping. It’s quite unnatural for him to hold a firm position. Even if he tries to hold his ground, eventually he will return to his natural state.

And like fish in the sea, when there’s a lot of glip-floping going on, it attracts a great deal of them. But in an election, you never want to be the fish. You especially don’t want to be a whale. And if you don’t know who the whales are, then it’s you and those around you that think like you do. But see, it gets even worse. From the fish’s point of view, it looks like they are standing firm and that it’s the other people who are flip-flopping. Only they do not realise that those other people are actually standing on solid ground and that not all points of views are created equal.

Most experts agree certain predisposing factors may facilitate attraction to a cultic system. These factors include:

    A desire to belong

Unassertiveness (the inability to say no or express criticism or doubt)

Gullibility (impaired capacity to question critically what one is told, observes, thinks, and so forth)

Low tolerance for ambiguity (need for absolute answers, impatience to obtain answers)

Cultural disillusionment (alienation, dissatisfaction with the status quo)
    Idealism

Susceptibility to trance-like states (in some cases, perhaps, due to prior hallucinogenic drug experiences)

    A lack of self-confidence

    A desire for spiritual meaning

Ignorance of how groups can manipulate individuals

Now we know the types of individuals that support the NEW Democratic Party and Obama.

For the next two months he isn’t going to be giving anymore of these ridiculous speeches that get people all excited. He will have to answer questions in debates (we know how good he is debating) and he will have to explain Ayers, Wright, Rezko and his birthplace.

His incompetance cannot be hidden. This man is a fraud and a danger to our country. He lied in his speech tonight just like he lied in the primary. He said Mccain has no experience, what a flucking joke. He treated Hillary and her ideas like crap in the primary and now he his trying to morph into the candidate she was! How flucking insulting. I was astounded this evening. The Masterful Orator once again incited his cult into a frenzy of false hope and change.Stop for just one moment and remind yourselves who this man actually is. Obama, is without a doubt, the most brilliant political fraud our nation has ever witnessed, brought to you by Axelrod Productions. I will not forget his associations of radicals and crooks that would have destroyed any other politician in their tracks. I will not forget his blatant racist branding of the two people who fought for civil rights their entire lives(Clintons). I will never forget how he looked into the lens of the camera and lied endlessly about his knowledge of Wrights hate filled sermons, followed by a lecture to all Americans on race unity, when in fact he was the only candidate using race to win votes. The litany of egregious lies, his rise to power by backstabbing his political Mentor, Alice Palmer in Illinois, his non record, pathetic lack of experience. No I will not forget how he gave Hillary the finger to the delight of his flock who watched with glee. His meteoric rise to power was due to dirty politics, lies, corruption and deceptions and that my dear fellow Americans is truly, POLITICS AS USUAL.

Go to the welcome screen for AOL and take a look at a photo of Obama. This is the first time I have seen this photo and his Arabic heritage and not his black heritage is very evident. WOW.

    • Julius Streicher

Took you a while, didn’t it? Barack is Arab – not black.

      • Slim Tyranny

Heh, is that an important distinction for you to make?

        • Julius Streicher

Yes it is. It is VERY IMPORTANT. Because Axelrod is marketing him as black. The blacks want him not for what he stands for – but because he is black. But he is not black – he is an arab-American, not an African-American. And for that matter he’s no Kunte Kinte, that’s for sure. He’s not part of the blacks who were kidnapped to the U.S. and suffered here under slavery. Sidney Poitier makes a better case for the blacks. Barack is anything Axelrod wants him to be. It is important because it’s just another way people have been hoodwinked. You say colour shouldn’t matter? No it should not. Then why is Axelrod using colour all the time? So it is VERY important. It’s EVERYTHING. Thank you.

          • Slim Tyranny

You DO know that Kenya is a country in Africa, right?

You can try and pretend he’s not an African-American, but that’s not the truth. It’s fairly laughable — the African-American experience isn’t just about HOW those Americans came here, it’s about how they were treated once they got here. You don’t think the suffering of African-Americans ended once slavery was abolished, right? You realize that Barack Obama was born before the Civil Rights Act of 1964? You do know that his parents’ marriage was before Loving v. Virginia?

            • Hope Floats

She can’t call him a baby killer during the primaries. He sure sucked up to conservatives tonight, too, with all his talk about the sanctity of marriage and reducing abortions and family values. Once the word on BAIPA gets out, he’s done.

Maybe, but he did not live in America as a black minority, he spent most of his childhood in Indonesia where most of the people were the same color as him and then he spent the rest of it in Hawaii where a white person is more of a minority then he is. He has no shared heritage or experience unless you count his attending exclusive colleges on his rich oil exec. dads dime a shared african-american experience.

              From my comment:

Colonialism of Kenya =/= Slavery in America
There are similarities, but there is a difference between some white guy from the West coming into your country/settling down in your home/treating you like shit and actually removing you from your home continent in chains, sticking you on a boat in chains, and selling you–in chains–to some other white guy from farther West to dress in the shabbiest of the Western man’s clothing and work on foreign lands for practically nothing but a crappy hut and some sustenance/to be treated like animals and whipped/beaten/killed. Because once the British were forced out, the Kenyans still had their tribes and their homes. WTF did the black Americans have after the proclamation? NOTHING. Nothing but fear and uncertainty with nothing of their own and a history of continued racism and discrimination even though they were now “free”. Kenyans don’t know the American Experience of blacks brought over from a far away land. Kenyans, like Barack Sr., had a CHOICE to come over here. Enslaved ancestors of many Black Americans did NOT. THAT is the difference: It’s about CHOICE. Obama has African/Arab slave traders on his fathers’s side and slave owners on his mom’s side, and went to exclusive and private schools his entire life–how’s that for “sharing” the same experience of Black Americans?

          • Snickers

Though we may fall into the pit that is depression, we must never resign ourselves to that which we can foresee, that which we can forewarn, that which we can forbid from ever transpiring. It is of most patriotic importance to stand by our convictions in the face of seemingly insurmountable odds so that we may chart our own future, our own destiny. Destiny is not a predetermined path, carved in stone, but a moist clay which we can mold into a work of art beyond our wildest dreams. When a man stands by his convictions, he can move the world-we can move the world. We can change this destructive path created by the villainous enemies of democracy. We can cast a masterpiece. I hope that together we can keep the dark forces of Obama from casting their own destiny, a destiny of darkness and distress. We must shatter it before it may carry the seeds of our destruction.

thats because the republicans also have a long history in politics just like the old democratic party. This new democratic fascist party being run by pod people doesnt have the historical understanding that its not about slash and burn all the time.

This movment will be aborted on November 4, then the hard work of rebuilding our party begins.

  • http://hillaryorbust.blogspot.com Hillary or Bust

I will still vote for McCain if he picks Romney – Romney annoys me with his cheery Mormon persona (see Mormon South Park episode) but anyone with any objectivity can see that Romney can actually deliver the goods and get stuff done.

I’m praying that McCain will choose a woman though – slam dunk!

    • Julius Streicher

Yes true. If he chooses a woman – a good woman – it’s lights out for Barky. TOTALLY! John! Don’t let us down! Destroy the bastard! P.S. It’s all right to call him bastard if his people call Hillary a “bitch” – right?

      • Slim Tyranny

John personally laughed along with someone when they called Hillary a “bitch” — Obama NEVER did that.

        • Julius Streicher

No. He flicked dust off his shoulder and gave her the bird instead. The BASTARD. And I said “his people” – not him. Clean your reading glasses.

          • Slim Tyranny

            Exactly. “His people”!

So John McCain PERSONALLY LAUGHS when someone calls Hillary a “bitch” and says “that’s a good question”, and some of Obama’s supporters call Hillary a “bitch”, and you’re giving McCain the free pass?

So, McCain actually gives the thumbs up to calling Hillary a “bitch”, while Obama’s supporters (without his support) do the same thing, and you only hold it against Obama?

            That’s absurd.

It’s also absurd to think that Obama gave Clinton the finger. Camera angles prove otherwise, and this is an old, debunked thing.

But seriously, McCain LAUGHED when someone called Hillary a “bitch”! How is that acceptable to you?

            • http://hillaryorbust.blogspot.com Hillary or Bust

Yawn. You do know that Hillary and McCain are good friends, don’t you? Certainly much better friends than Hillary and Obama (who obviously hates her).

              • Slim Tyranny

So, since Hillary and McCain are “good friends”, it’s okay for McCain to laugh when someone calls Hillary a “bitch” out of pure hate?

You do know that Hillary endorsed Obama, don’t you?

I seriously can’t believe the willingness of some to dismiss this episode by McCain.

                • http://hillaryorbust.blogspot.com Hillary or Bust

I think you are overblowing it, and Hillary *is* good friends with McCain.

                  • Slim Tyranny

If I’m overblowing that, then Julius is overblowing calling Obama a “bastard” because some of his misguided, ignorant supporters have called Hillary a “bitch.”

And maybe you’re right, maybe that is overblown — in that case, the anti-Obama rhetoric about his supporters using the “b” word is even more overblown.

                  • Slim Tyranny

And you’re right, they are good friends — which makes that episode even more disappointing. His friend got called a “bitch” out of pure hate, and a crowd of people laughed and jeered, and he laughed right along with them. And praised the woman’s question.

Would have been cool for him to say SOMETHING at that moment and defend Hillary. Tough to do, of course, given how much the GOP loathes the Clintons.

your completely wrong. he nervously “laughed”, never said “that’s a good question” and immediately followed it up with, “I respect Senator Clinton”. • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

The Federal Election Commission ("FEC") sent two letters (April 15, 2008 and July 30, 2008) to the Obama campaign regarding contributions that exceeded the legal limits. The FEC recommended the campaign review their records for additional excessive contributions.

Does this mean Obama knew about the contributions and did nothing?

Additionally, the July 30, 2008 FEC letter states,
“It appears that several transactions on Schedule(s) A supporting line(s) 17(a) of your report disclose the original contribution of an individual more than once.”

Does this mean dollar amounts were counted more than once and total contributions inflated?

There is a direct correlation to your hypocrisy in that you apparently have no problem with obummer sitting in a church and saying nothing for 20 years while his pastor his mentor his good friend said GOD DAMN AMERICA, but you want to use an argument that women should not vote for McCain because some person called clinton a bitch and he laughed.

In case you have forgotten troll, the obama assholes have called Hillary and Bill a hellof a lot worse than that in the past 6 months.

Just like your Omessiah, when you dont have an answer you obfuscate and distract. That may work for your fellow pod people but the rest of us are not that easily distracted by shiny things.

Go shove yourself up your hypocritical unity donkey.

                    Illegal Immigration:
In a March 2004 questionnaire, Obama was asked if the government should “crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants.” He replied “Oppose.”

In a Jan. 31, 2008, televised debate, he said that “we do have to crack down on those employers that are taking advantage of the situation.”

Obama’s variation was to use JZ to call her a bitch, because he is a coward. And yeah he laughed.

I just read about MN gvovernor–Pawlenty and his wife–check them out. McCain needs to sweep that part of the country for electoral votes. I am impressed with the Pawlentys — he understands how to get things done–the First Lady has a record of her own. Impressive from middle class backgrounds. Visit their website.

  • Darryl

Please everyone, comment on my message. Tonight I have hear FIVE times about former Bush supporters voting for Obama. For christ sake they had them on PNR. What does this mean? Has the DNC adopted the retarded Bush clan? Holy cow I feel so lost. I was just on yahoo answers and asked a question. This guy said that I was “wrong” about republicans and that they supported Obama over McCain and he got more thumbs up than a whore is a hen house? Whats up with that?

    • Karma

I don’t know either. My neighbors are diehard Republicans who voted for Bush twice. We have teased eachother for years over politics.

This year they are voting for Obama.

It must be some sort of guilt thing for being responsible for Bush and his havoc. They are in China, so it will be a while before I can pick their brains.

Not much help…but I have heard some similiar rumblings.

    • ziggy

I know two former Bush republicans who are now strong Obama supporters. My take on their change is that they feel so betrayed by the republicans that it would take a republican who represents a total break from Bush policy to win them back. John McCain isn’t that.

These two live in Indiana, a traditional republican state. Both of them had rather low opinions of the Clintons, which I was never able to argue them out of. They got behind Obama while I was still pushing Hillary’s case.

I get the impression that a lot of Indiana voters are behind Barack Obama this election. It may be for the same reason. Indiana was pretty much a Bush state. Disillusionment began setting in about 2 years ago.

      • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

This is the biggest rumor around the internet.

We don’t believe anything you write ziggy.

        • ziggy

*shrug* It’s a truthful observation. No one can make you believe it.

Indiana has been hit hard by the economic downturn. Lots of factory workers are disgruntled about overseas job losses, health insurance, and rising prices for all the basics. They’re also disillusioned about Iraq. Indiana hasn’t been a battleground state for a long time. It’s turning into one this election.

      • imustprotest

So sorry Zig. If Barry had picked Evan Bayh maybe Indiana would have gone Democrat, maybe. It’s a conservative state. Quayle’s state! You know, Bush Sr’s VP!! LOL! Indiana will go with McCain….despite your little antidotal about your “Republican friends” hahahahha!! Barry’s gonna lose Ziggy, get over it!!!!

        • Trolls Smell Bad; Real Bad

ziggy doesn’t have any Republican friends.

          And, as Oscar Wilde said:
“He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends.”

          That’s ziggy!

      • mimi

Yeah, well these people can kiss my tush.

They give us Bush and now they want to give us 0bama.

You might want to point out to them that they don’t have a very good track record. And they need to consider that before unleashing this locust on America yet again.

    • tommy77

Zogby has McCain with over 81% republican support and around 20% democrat support. Barry has 74% Dem support and only 7% Republican support.

    • s. hall

darryl — its not true — Obama has his paid trolls on every site. Just like the Fake Air Force One plane. He has to make it appear that everyone wants him to be President. McCain has 85% of Republicans — only 7% support Obama (lowest ever cross over vote) Obama has 72% of Democrats. Only 52% of Hillary supporters will vote for Obama 48% will not — McCain has 28% of Hillary supporters. Unless Obama cheats he cannot win without every Democrat supporting him and even then the electoral map favors the Republicans. Stay cool–there is going to be so much bull crap being tossed around by the Obama people.

Many countries have had elections over the pat few years. most of the Labor?Social democrats have made speeches just like obama’s . they are generic. Some went on to win * some lost.

In almost every case there was an opposition who said “Show me the money”.

    Nothing new here.

  • THE MAGUS

Susan? You said he finally got it? Of course! He realized unless he took Hillarys platform he would not get past his critics who have always known his hope and change canard could only take him so far. Obama would not be where he is today if he were stupid and only a clever con sees the opening to “improve” his game.
I am cynical for good reasons and it has been crystal clear, the best con artist will make you “believe” anything if he plays the song you have been longing to hear.

  • NoBO

I thought the speech was a dud. It wasn’t visionary or hopeful or uplifting. It was boring. Lots of lies about McCain.

    Where was Hillary?

Also, the end and the walk-off were weird. BO seemed down, not smiling much, looked down in the mouth as they walked off the stage. Something weird going on there.

I think McCain is looking forward to deflating Obama. Only problem for him is choosing a woman will put off half his party. They still think a woman’s place is in the stove. Unlike the Democrats who will support a woman until it looks like she will best them, at which time they cut her off at the knees.

  • Babs

People can say they’re Republicans, but do you really believe that more and more Republicans are going to vote for Obama? Please! Moderate Republicans like McCain just fine, and the thought of neocons turning into neolibs because of Barack Obama is just so laughable it isn’t even worth commenting on. I predict a huge Republican turnout for McCain, as Obama is just as frightening to them as he is to many of the Dems who post here.

I work with a 70-year old lady who told me last month she would never vote for Obama. She came into my office this morning and told me Hillary had convinced her and she would be voting Obama/Biden in November.

    • Brendy

Wasn’t that what Hillary said about Obama in one of her tv ads, talking about the credentials she and McCain have and that Obama’s experience/credentials were that he ‘gave a great speech in 2002′??? So, will this be another one of those ‘great’ speeches, but this time in 2008? Still, WHERE IS THE EXPERIENCE??? ANYBODY can give a good speech – with the RIGHT SPEECH WRITERS! Boy, how gullible ARE people???

      • Slim Tyranny

Well, since you’re referring to what Hillary has said, she has strongly endorsed Obama on numerous occasions. Most recently, she gave a GREAT speech laying out exactly why Obama was the right man for the job. Bill Clinton did the same thing.

You should consider listening to them.

        • Brendy

Slim, Slim, Slim…don’t you GET it?? Hillary HAD to say what she said – she STILL wants a career in politics – the DEMOCRATIC party! What’s she supposed to do? Bad mouth Obama and say ‘don’t vote for him – vote for the republican’??? Is she supposed to look like a sore loser? Besides, she HAS to appease the Black voters – for her next run as President. If she didn’t come off sounding strong like she was REALLY ‘in his camp’, don’t you think the Black voters would ‘repay’ her the next time she runs for President? Duh!

When are people going to use their OWN heads and their OWN brains – vote your conscience; VOTE COUNTRY OVER PARTY. Obama was taught to hate America/Whites/Jews for 20+ years but I can’t recall anything that McCain was taught to hate.

          • Slim Tyranny

So you’re saying Hillary Clinton has no personal integrity? That her political ambitions outweighed her conscience and she lied to the American people?

            Wrong.

Hillary Clinton did NOT lie to the American people in order to forward her own selfish ambitions. She SPOKE THE TRUTH and gave a clear, strong and powerful endorsement.

Obama does not “hate America/Whites/Jews” — Hillary Clinton knows that, and that’s why she endorsed him.

Frankly, you’re insulting Hillary Clinton, and you should knock it off. She’s a better person than you think.

            • John House

So Hillary is a goddess who “speaks the truth”, but ONLY when it benefits Obama via endorsement, right? Because she “spoke the truth” when she made the comment about LBJ and MLK, but then you Obamatron fuckers labelled her as racist.

Like His Holiness Jeremiah G-d Damn America Wright says, GET THE FUCK OUT OF HERE.

    • Slim Tyranny

That’s very cool! I’m talking to my secretary regularly these days, she is a big Hillary fan and still hasn’t come around to Obama. I’ve just asked her to humor me and sit down sometime and watch Hillary’s speech and Bill’s speech and LISTEN to them make the sound argument for Barack as president. I’m hoping she’ll come around — she is a real Democrat, so the policies are all there, just need her to accept the Obama candidacy.

      • NoBO

Slim, didn’t you notice in Hillary’s speech there was not one word of praise for Obama? She did what she had to do and no more. As she said before, he’s unqualified. Now, she has to be a politician and play ball but we, the voters, don’t have to. We can be honest with ourselves and vote for the most qualified candidate.

        • Slim Tyranny

Wrong. She praised him, and Bill praised him, and they both called him qualified and ready to lead.

Don’t lie, and don’t disparage the integrity of the Clintons and argue that they “played ball” and lied to the American people about Obama’s qualifications because they’re merely politicians.

The Clintons were honest, and the Clintons believe that Obama is the most qualified candidate.

          • Hopium is the Hopiate We’ve Been Hoping For!

The Clintons were honest, and the Clintons believe that Obama is the most qualified candidate.

Actually, I ran both their speeches through my BS detector. What they really said was that there’s a sucker born every minute. Twice a minute if you’re talking about ObamaBots.

          • s. hall

slim — get this through your head — she did what she had to do. She and Bill can’t stand this fraud how could they? He called Bill Clinton (the first Black President) a racist. When you have spend a lifetime working on race relations to be called is racist is something you never forget. They have decided to stay in the Democratic Party so they gave him tacit approval but no more. I bet she hopes McCain wins so she can run in 4 years.

          • VMorris

And what about Hillary’s orange pant suit? Orange is not her best color. It sort of resembled those orange prison jumpsuits if you get my drift, not to mention the color orange in some cultures is worn to protest a rigged election….

Finally, I read somewhere that neither Clinton attended the Obama’s one man Greek Mythology Show tonight.

So were they lying when they said he wasn’t qualified, repeatedly? Or was that just political? They said he wasnt qualified, over and over again, and then you say they said he was qualified at the convention. They were “playing politics” or “lying” one of times. I think all you need to know about whether they truly support Hussein is; were they there when he gave his acceptance speech? That was a pretty clear signal.

True. You can’t change your DNA, but you CAN adopt or change from one religion to another. If you’ve been raised a certain way, with certain beliefs – now, that’s kinda hard to change, especially when those teachings have been with you for a long time. Good ‘ole Rev. Wright helped ‘engrain’ some mighty fine thoughts into Obummer’s noggin, while he attended that ‘church’ didn’t he? • Slim Tyranny

      “part Muslim”?

C’mon, you should be better than that.

      • HARP

All Indonesian students are required to study religion at school and a young Barry Soetoro, being a Muslim, would have been required to study Islam daily in school.

He would have been taught to read and write Arabic, to recite his prayers properly, to read and recite from the Quran and to study the laws of Islam.

In his autobiography, “Dreams From My Father,” Obama mentions studying the Quran and describes the public school as “a Muslim school.”

According to Tine Hahiyary, one of Obama’s teachers and the principal from 1971 through 1989, Barry actively took part in the Islamic religious lessons during his time at the school. His teacher was named Maimunah and she lived in the Puncak area, the Cianjur Regency.

“I remembered that he had studied “mengaji” (recitation of the Quran)” Tine said.

Obama himself recalls, “In the Muslim school, the teacher wrote to tell mother I made faces during Koranic studies.”

Our guy in Jakarta writes: “The actual usage of the word ‘mengaji’ in Indonesian and Malaysian societies means the study of learning to recite the Quran in the Arabic language rather than the native tongue. “Mengagi” is a word and a term that is accorded the highest value and status in the mindset of fundamentalist societies here in Southeast Asia. To put it quite simply, ‘mengaji classes’ are not something that a non practicing or so-called moderate Muslim family would ever send their child to. To put this in a Christian context, this is something above and beyond simply enrolling your child in Sunday school classes.”

“The fact that Obama had attended mengaji classes is well known in Indonesia and has left many there wondering just when Obama is going to come out of the closet.”

“As I’ve stated before, the evidence seems to quite clearly show that both Ann Dunham and her husband Lolo Soetoro Mangunharjo were in fact devout Muslims themselves and they raised their son as such.”

In 2007, Obama’s classmate Rony Amiris describes young Barry as enjoying playing football and marbles and of being a very devout Muslim. Amir said, “Barry was previously quite religious in Islam.

“We previously often asked him to the prayer room close to the house. If he was wearing a sarong he looked funny,” said Rony.

Amiris now the manager of the Bank Mandiri, Jakarta, recently said, “Barry was previously quite religious in Islam. His birth father, Barack Hussein Obama was a Muslim economist from Kenya. Before marrying Ann Dunham, Hussein Obama was married to a woman from Kenya who had seven children. All the relatives of Barry’s father were very devout Muslims”

Rony extrapolates further, that Obama at one point had to change his religion if he ever intended later to run for the office of President of the United States because America would never elect a Muslim to the be President of the United States.

So, the ‘part Muslin’ is the ONLY thing you can argue? So, that he was FRIENDS with an unrepentent bomber/terrorist, attended a ‘hate America/hate whites and jews’ church for 20+ years – you’re NOT going to dispute???? Come on – dispute it! Some of us bitter, gun-totin’, Bible thumpers don’t get out much and we’re not as intelligent or educated as you Obummer sheep.

Gosh, I guess if a Jew and a Christian married – their offspring wouldn’t be part of both religions??? Or, even a Protestant and a Catholic married and if both parents alternately attended each other’s churches – wouldn’t the offspring share half of that religion.

In Obama’s case, his dad was Muslim and his mom was an athiest. So, I guess he was part Muslim and part NOTHING?? Gosh, what a combination!

        • Slim Tyranny

Heh, you keep forgetting that he’s 100% Christian.

He attended a public school in Indonesia that included Muslim students, Christian students and Buddhist students. When he was a little boy. His basically secular upbringing took him to young adulthood, when he found his way to Jesus and cultivated a strong Christian faith.

Don’t know why you need to deny him that; don’t know why you have to make a step-father’s religion a negation of the son’s actual, practiced religion.

Are you talking about Black Jesus and the Black Liberation Theology that his church adheres to? Well, the Jesus Christ I know knows no color and HIS (Jesus’) doctrine does not apply ONLY to blacks and my Jesus NEVER, EVER asked God to ‘damn America’ or to blame Jews or Whites for the plight of the Black man or for the shape the world is in. That’s not what I call a ‘strong Christian faith’.

Radical Muslims hate America; Rev. Wright and his ‘religion’ preached ‘hate America’, too. No wonder Obummer chose Wright’s church – it’s right in line with his previous ‘teachings’.

          • John House

You Obamatrons seem to want to gloss over the part of his first book where he said that he only disagreed with his Nation of Islam friend on the means/methods, not the ideology. Barry is Nation of Islam Muslim, not traditional Muslim. And that makes sense, given the church he belonged to for over 20 years.

O.K. Obama is part black and part white. He is the offspring of a Muslin dad and an athiest mom. If he can be part black and part white in color, I suppose he can be part Muslim and part NOTHING/athiest in religious teachings – right? I guess that’s why he chose Wright’s ‘hate America, whites and jews’ church because Obama has NO Christian upbringing. Radical Muslims want to destroy America – isn’t that WHY 911 occurred???

“The writing’s on the wall” – too bad, millions of American either don’t know what this means or they’re blind. Or, worse – they don’t CARE.

        • Slim Tyranny

The truthful answer is short and sweet: Obama is an African-American Christian, born to a white mother from Kansas and a Kenyan father.

Do you believe he’s some Manchurian candidate? A secret Muslim out to destroy us?

          • Brendy

The truthful answer is short and sweet: Obama was taught to hate America/Whites and Jews – from a Black Liberation Theology clergyman. O.K., so maybe he is or maybe he’s not part Muslim – he STILL was taught to HATE America (and Whites and Jews). That, alone, is enough to NOT want me to vote for him – to be the leader of MY country and ME.

BTW, any Christian who reads the Bible knows that we (as Christians) are to be prepared for the Great Deceiver. In the End Times, when the Anti-Christ appears – he will be able to deceive some of the most strongest believers in Christ. Who knows? I’m not saying Obummer is ‘the one’, but he could set the path for the future, with Americans blinding following “like sheep” for the one who REALLY will be the ‘one’. Yeah, I know…you think I’m crazy, that’s o.k.

            • doctorwang

You are crazy- but at least you admit it.

            • John House

People here need to figure out that Nation of Islam blacks aren’t the same as blacks who are traditional Muslims. Obama’s father and relatives on that side are traditional Muslims. Nation of Islam Blacks Muslims like Wright, Farrakhan and Obama–they’re different. Not MUCH different when it comes to the religion itself, but different in the sense that the Nation of Islam is a chiefly American phenomenon, foreign and considered a heretical sect by traditional Muslims because traditional Islam doesn’t care what color you are and accepts Muslims of all colors. Nation of Islam Black Muslims HATE whites (and Jews, for that matter).

The very heart of black American history where Malcolm X was assassinated DEFINES this difference; Malcolm was leaving the Nation of Islam to go and practice traditional Islam, which accepted Muslims of all colors (he discovered this on his trip to Mecca). Farrakhan and the Nation of Islam then shot the guy to death.

It is because “whitey” is so ignorant of this difference that they are being played by Obama. Obama can say “I’m not a Muslim” and whitey will accept that, because in whitey’s mind, there only exists one type of Muslim–the douches who ran planes into the WTC. But that kind of Muslim is NOT what Barry has been during his adult life. He has been a Black Muslim of the NOI type, and those are the types of thugs you see bullying businesses/shooting reporters in Oakland and running politics in Chicago. You know, the well-dressed/”clean” (ha ha, Biden you ass) black men who wear suits and bow ties. Many of the rappers you see Obama hanging out with are NOI as well…that phrase, “no pork on my fork”? A direct reference to being Black Muslim and following the practices of Islam (Muslims, like Jews, don’t eat pork).

Until white America wakes up and educates itself about basic Black American History and the difference between a traditional Muslim and a Black NOI Muslim, we’re screwed.

          • TeakwoodKite

You make a cinder block look like a nerf ball. Dense doesn’t begin to describe it. That Kenyan dad ? He was a Muslim too. His mom?

Great speech , no great stage antics, yes, this speech lack the sincerety and heart that Hillarys contained, on her experience, this was the same old speech that I have heard time and time again, a laundry list of Hillarys wants , and no meat on how to get there, and as for saying McCain has no record is wrong and they know it,. Greta asked several times is this the speech that would move an undecided voter, no, it is not. Is this the speech even with the nice movie, the speech that would connect to those lunchpail voters, and woman over 40 ,, no it is not, time and time again we have been served that Obama has good judgment , then why o why is it the same 3 things on judgment and neither of the pundants go into detail.

If you had stars singing with a free concert for McCain I think he would too fill a stadium.

Obama has failed to connect, and I think Mc Cain will hit it out of the park next week. McCain is not Bush, and that is why the Dems have failed to label him that effective.

Tonight a Kennedy was asked about Jfk, had more experience than Obama , and she stated he did not , even though he served in the navy, and served two terms in the Senate before he went for president, the difference between Jfk , is that he had a conviction on working for the less fortunate, and was able to speak with his heart on his sleeve, on what matters, Obama has a hard time connecting because of the elite, he has clung on too, since becoming a senator, O had Illinios, and 4 yrs in the Senate in the White house, and every issue, he could have stood firm with a true cause, he was not there to vote, or he voted against, a man for the people I think not. As a good judment on supporting our troops well time and time again, he voted not to fund the things our troops needed to help defeat alqueda and the radicals in Iraq , and voted against the surge, how is that doing what is best for our men and woman.

I saw nothing and heard nothing that would answer any thing that mattered other than saying I will try to work for the issues but i dont know if i can deliver. It is the same promises that we heard time and time from him , but can say if you dress up the platform , somehow it appears he made a great speech, wrong, it did not have what we as Democrats needed to hear.

If they are going to pass a voice of no , against the war, as good judgment, then what the hell , or shall i swy , where the hell was his good judgment about Ayres, Wright Farahkhan, Akorn, voting against the Iba, ballistic armor for our troops that saved lives, O voted No, Hillary and McCain voted yes.

Disraming us of our nukes, not a good deceision, underestimating the threats of the terroist on what they will do to Americans,to sit there and to talk to them without unconditional means. and Russia, become and starting another cold war.

This closed the door on any doubt about McCain, and Obama is not ready to lead, and with the 4 yrs in the senate, his standing up for the people , well it is just not there.,, I own my vote, one voice one vote Nobama, A silent vote a third party vote is a vote for O , and telling the Dnc it is ok to use race and seism, and rude tactics to become president.

Also did notice, once again, there was no one calling out that again he bought race into the issue on how I didnt look like them and where not from an ivy league,or some effect of that, who cares its the issues not your skin color, and as for doing equal pay for woman, well in Os camp woman are paid less and McCains are paid more, just and open comment, that he does not live by, no conviction, and has not wk to do so.,,, Nobama ever. lets not talk about the shady cover up at Michelles place of employment on swindling money from the government on just filling beds. Once again Do for me and I ll do for you , and lets make believe i didnt know, if you dont know what is happening on the board with ayers, how in the heck will you run America.,,

Evidently this Kennedy person didn’t know much about JFK when asked. JFK served as a Congressman and a Senator before being elected President. His father was Ambassador to Great Britain and his maternal grandfather, “Honey Fitz” was a politician as well. JFK grew up in a political family and JFK had a lot more experience than Barry Soetoro and still the Bay of Pigs happened. However, JFK actually took responsibility and blame for that event. I can’t see Barry taking responsibility or blame for anything. It’s always someone else’s fault.

Obama’s speech was total shit and badly delivered. Forget Krauthammer’s nonsense this guy could win in a landslide. The only person Obama has ever beaten was Alan Keyes. And I think Keyes could beat him for the presidency.

I’m going to be honest about the speech: I wasn’t that impressed. As David Brooks noted, it was underwhelming. The Daily Kos set is freaking out over a, I believe, Charles Babbitt AP write-up of the presentation, but I feel that what that piece said, along with what Brooks opined and another female commentator mentioned about the speech being a missed opportunity is how I feel about what I saw tonight.

I was prepared to feel glum tonight, sad because Barack hit a home run and the convention ended on some incredibly high note that would bury McCain and the GOP.

I don’t feel like that in the slightest.

The speech was good, don’t get me wrong, but the best thing about it was Obama’s stage presence and delivery. The text of the speech was not impressive, and it was still far too general to crystallize hope and change.

Additionally, Obama delivered the speech, it seemed, intentionally muted. I guess he wished to avoid the ‘fiery black man’ label or something, but the presentation was far below some of his other oratories. And that made it feel flat, as did the distance which he was from the audience.

I thought he did some laundry list stuff without a lot of details, and also got in some of his pandering to conservative Dems and moderates about needing to have parents around and such. If that sounds similar to what BHO started saying after he felt he wrapped up the primaries, it is. It is a targeted message for middle America.

Overall, the speech was good but not great. I kept feeling at the end of the night that there would be more convention to come, some kind of tie-together for it all, but there was not. It felt incomplete.

Finally, the venue didn’t help. Though there were many cheers, the outdoor location actually blunts the acoustics and detracted from the type of cacophony that would have ensued had the address been indoors.

The speech was good. Many are leaping to praise it, and effusively. Barack will get a bounce from the address.

But it wasn’t enough to seal the deal. It was not a knockout blow. It left you feeling like something was missing. Some passion, or completeness.

As someone who will be supporting McCain, I am happy for that. I was prepared for much worse. Yet after Barack’s last uncontested night tonight (well, kind of; McCain’s new ad is nearing 100,000 hits in like 8 hours or so and people like it a lot), I feel very comfortable with where the GOP is at right now, and excellent about their November chances at the top of the ticket.

    • mimi

      Paul,

I agree with your critique. It was good speech, but not great. He couldn’t come up with a slamming phrase. The words were not that exciting or new. He stole ideas from both Hillary and Bill.

And oh God did he pander. To women, equal pay when he already got caught not paying his own staff equally. About his mother even though he didn’t visit her on her death bed. To gays, which I thought was shameful considering all the homophobic people he’s hung out with. That business about challenging McCain to a debate anytime, any place. I could go on.

But people were so rooting for him. It was the end of the Convention and in general people get stirred up and after all, Hillary and Bill set the table.

And did anyone catch when 0bama mentioned the possibility of attacks against his character, the camera panned to the 0Bidens and Mrs 0biden glanced up at Joe with a look that was filled with foreboding.

Anyway, wait for the euphoria to die down.

If you have to plagiarize somebody else’s speeches and still can’t deliver it worth a damn, you have no business getting up there making a fool out of yourself in the first place.

That’s what Obama did. Worst speech in the history of the world.

  • http://snunes.blogspot.com Susan Nunes

Calling the speech good but not great is being too kind. Remember, Obama lifted passages and ideas from others without attribution.

He still can’t give a speech worth a damn. He is not a Mario Cuomo.

I am a proud democrat and have always been one. I voted and supported Senator Clinton until the end.

Tonight, Obama delivered a great acceptance speech, a great democratic speech that hit all our cherished themes.

Sadly, my candidate will not be on the ballot on November 4th and i will not have the opportunity to vote for her. I will, however, heed her advice and i will support Obama and vote for him.

To night Obama earned my vote.

I just cannot vote for McCain. I just cannot vote for another republican to continue the failures of George W. Bush. Our country cannot live through another republican tenure. They had their chances, they screw things up. It is time for them to go, as Al Gore said in 1992.

To night i say that i will be voting for the Obama/Biden ticket.

Do some research and you will find that:

      Obama=Bush 3.

      • CHRIS

He is a democrat and i am a democrat and have been one for 48 years.

Despite McCain’s heroism and good soldiering, which i respect greatly, our country cannot afford another republican tenure. The last 8 years have been awful by every single measure, though not for me.

I will vote for the Democratic ticket.

If you guys are motivated by your support for Senator Clinton, which god knows i have supported until the end and raised money for her until i maxed myself, my wife and a couple of friends, Senator Clinton will not be on the ticket. She fought like the champion she is, but she came short. Maybe in 8 years, she will give another go and i will be there to support her as i did during this campaign.

I am a democrat and as a good democrat i am going home and voting for Obama. And i will be writing my first check for his campaign tomorrow morning. Call that the Kool Aid or party identification, that’s your business.

However, if you guys are motivated by something else beside your support for Senator Clinton, well that’s your business.

But as Senator Clinton said: No Way, No How, No McCain.

Only one problem with your argument. Well, there are several, but the main one is that Bush won’t be around anymore.

You’ve always been an Obama supporter. Your writing gives it away. It’s that obvious, so please cut the charades.

        • CHRIS

Who are you calling kid son? I said i have been a democrat for 48 years. Add to that 20 years and you will get my age, son.

Yes, country always first and before party. I don’t need you to remind of that. I lived that. I fought for this country and my blood is probably still drenching a ditch near a shit hole called Binh Long, Vietnam.

Yes, it is because my country is first that i cannot vote for McCain. I cannot vote for someone whose colleagues in the Senate–and we all know that. It ain’t a secret for people of our age–describe him as dangerously unstable with volatile temper.

McCain, as all of us who fought that damned war, has a serious case of PTSD. I have suffered from PTSD for years and i will not trust myself with the duties of the Oval Office and i will not trust McCain to be anywhere near the damn Oval Office or the U.S. Nuclear Strategic Command.

Moreover, it is time for them to go. 8 years is about enough. Bush fucked things up to an unbelievable extent. And no other republican should occupy that office.

My girl lost. God bless her heart, she fought like the champ she is. But she wasn’t lucky. Her campaign was not as good as she was. Her campaign failed her really. I believe, the time to move on is now, i moved on.

          And your pointless point is?

          • Slim Tyranny

Heh, it’s fairly obvious. Saying that “no Hillary supporter would say this” [and quoting an anti-McCain line] because it’s a “fear tactic” and a rookie mistake is laughable on its face when the Clintons themselves criticize McCain and the Republican policies.

Both Hillary and Bill this week said, essentially, this very thing: “Our country cannot live through another republican tenure.”

These criticisms are silly. It’s a good thing to criticize your opponent’s policies and records, especially when those policies and records are SO poor and detrimental to the country.

            • tommy77

Did you listen to Bill and Hillary’s speeches before this, they spoke against Hussein. Not qualified, not ready to lead, too risky for America. • CHRIS

Mr X, you are a damn fool. If you check my name, you will realized that i posted here over and over and over. My support for Senator Clinton was and is still unconditional. But i am a democrat and i will vote for Obama. He ain’t my first choice, but McCain, just can’t do that.

        • Snickers

          Chris,
Thank you for your service to this country. I actually thought the same about McCain when he ran last time – PTSD. But that having been said, Barry has surrounded himself with corruption and the DNC just performed a horrific fraud on all loyal Democrats. If we truly believe in a democracy – if we truly revere our revolutionary heroes and those who crafted our Declaration of Independence, our Bill of Right, our Constitution, then we must hold our Party accountable. It’s not okay to intimidate and harass older Americans or the handicapped or actually anyone. If we allow this behavior, even tacitly, then we become like they are. I think we saw what happened in Germany when the citizens averted their eyes. Perhaps you need to watch the film Judgment At Nuremberg to get a taste of the kind of horror that can result by covert and tacit approval. We can’t afford this behavior in our country. There are worse things than losing an election – much worse. Martin Niemoller said it best:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
          I remained silent;
          I was not a communist.
When they locked up the social democrats,
          I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.
When they came for the trade unionists,
          I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.
When they came for the Jews,
          I remained silent;
          I wasn’t a Jew.
          When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

    • Brendy

      Chris,

Just wondering, but why do you (and other people for that matter) say you’re a ‘proud democrat’? I’m just an American ‘proud’ (and thankful) to live in America and I vote for the best PERSON with the best ISSUES that I agree with. I choose COUNTRY over PARTY. When you think about it, there’s something kind of sinister about being proud of a ‘party’.

I sincerely hope you’re not voting for Obummer BECAUSE he’s a democrat or because Hillary HAD to ask you to get behind him.

I am a damn stubborn Irish. I grew up with Jesus and Franklin and then in 1960 my dad added Jack. Those were the pictures on our fire place. And if you didn’t get it, those are Jesus Christ, Jack Kennedy and FDR.

As for talking to me about this country, well son, i don’t allow you to lecture me or anyone else. I paid my duty for this country with my blood. I fought for Old Glory and bled for it. Patriotism is not a slogan for me. It is a big reminder every time i lift my shirt and look at myself in the mirror.

Yes i am a democrat and damn proud to be one too. I cannot stand the damn republicans. The only time i voted for the republican ticket was in 1980 and i regret it all my life.

As for McCain, the man has serious PTSD folks. Can’t you see it on his face? I had PTSD for years after Vietnam and i recognize one when i see it. Just listen to his colleagues in the Senate. He yelled at my Senator, another republican, and scared the hell out of him. Can you imagine him talking to another president or negotiating with the Chinese? I can’t. That’s why my country first because i don’t trust him anywhere near the Oval Office.

          ***

First of all, may I suggest medical help? You have regretted ‘all your life’ for voting for a republican in 1980? I hope nothing MAJOR ever happens in your life.

I’ve voted both parties over my lifetime. I’m STILL alive, STILL free and live in America, STILL love Jesus, STILL have a good life – even after voting dem OR rep. I guess it’s a matter of principles on how one votes. Me? I cannot and will not vote for someone who was taught for 20+ years – AND DID NOT LEAVE THAT CHURCH – to hate America, and ME (I’m white). I don’t care if the person attending such a church was a democrat or republican, he/she WOULD NOT get my vote.

I guess since you cannot ‘stand the damned republicans’ – you probably can’t stand some of your neighbors, your co-workers or some of the people you attend religious services, etc. with (gasp! Some of them MIGHT be Republicans – shudder….yikes!). Just teasing, but since you’re a ‘stubborn Irish’ you probaly can’t take teasing.

I just cannot vote for another republican to continue the failures of George W. Bush.

So you’d rather vote for a Democrat to continue the failures of George W. Bush?

  • Phil

Let’s do a little reality check.

First, Obama was speaking to the chorus; he was speaking to a lot of people who agree with him. One should expect that to be a compelling moment.

Second, I’ve heard all this from the democrats before. I heard it in the last Congressional elections. Did they perform? No. The Democrats don’t live up to thier promises.

The Democrats have a way of pulling in those who believe that “nurturing” is the way to solve personal and social problems. So, their platforms are always warm and fuzzy. They draw you in.

I expected that Obama would sway many voter this evening.

That said, this is the same Obama who countenanced race-baiting and sexism (he let sexist attacks on Hillary go unanswered); this is the same Obama who vilified Hillary for certain positions which he later adopted as his own, after the primary was settled.

Obama is a gifted orator, BUT there is an ever-so-slight edge of elitism in his voice. I know that sound, and I know that it loses the hearts and minds of the average Joe and Joan when the average Joe and Joan hear it.

John Kerry has that elitist tone. So did Al Gore in 2000.

    That tone loses Presidential races.

Don’t forget, Obama has not been vetted outside the cloistered halls of the Democratic Party. he has yet to really go mano-a-mano with John McCain.

I don’t think that McCain – who spaeks in the common vernacular – is going to be “taken” by Obama.

About Mitt Romney: Did anyone watch Romney’s early speeches, or his concession speech? I’m a moderate liberal Independent who leans a bit left, but I can honestly say that Mitt Romney, if they cut him loose, will be a huge asset to McCain.

Romney can be disingenuous. All politicians can. However, he can be inspiring to the core. He’s a Mormon. So? What’s wrong with Mormons? They have a very strict code of ethics; they insist on 2 years of personal service; they take care of each other. What’s so bad about that?

I don’t think Obama is going to weather this storm; he’s a magnificent speaker who spouts platitudes. The MSM picks up his one liners and says “brilliant!”. I’m not impressed.

The next 8-9 weeks are going to be tough.

Obama asked this evening for a race that doesn’t get “personal”. What? This is a guy who let Hillary get pilloried by sexist jerks like Keith Olberman, night after night, and Obama dodn’t say a word. This is the guy who let his campaign intimate that anyone who was against him was a racist, and thus Hillary Clinton and Bill Clinton – two lifelong supporters of civil rights – were branded as racists.

I hope McCain does attack Obama, and attacks him on all the stuff that didn’t get reported during the primary. McCain also needs to show that he cares as much about Americans as Obama, who in asking for a “clean race” tonight, came out of the chute sayingi that John McCain “doesn’t understand”. “He just doesn’t get it” said Obama, hinting at someone who is behind the times, and old.

Obama’s attacks on John McCain’s patriotism backfired, so all he has left is the old passive agressive trick of saying to his opponent “dob’t continue the dirty tactics”, as if good reporters haven’t noticed that Obama is running ntens-of-THOUSANDS of attack ads in small towms and cities all over America.

I won’t vote for McCain, but I don’t want to see Obama get the prize. He isn’t ready for it, and frankly, he doesn’t deserve it.

    GO HILLARY!!!!

    • CHRIS

Romney changed position on so many things so many times that he made my head spin. Talking about flipflopping. As Ted Kennedy called, “Romney is not pro-choice. Romney is multiple choice.”

Romney would be probably the weakest vp choice ever for McCain. If McCain wants to win, he needs to put either Pawlenty or Portman on the ticket to freeze the rust belt and have a chance taking Ohio or Michigan.

      • imustprotest

        Sarah Palin, that’s the ticket.

      • Phil

Every candidate in this race has flipped, many times. That’s politics.

GO look at Romney’s speech when he opened his campaign, and his concession speech. MANY Dems who saw that and wrote about it said that Romney would be formidible in 2012 if he campaigned and spoke as he did those two times. I agree.

He would tear Biden a new one.

I like Pawlenty, too. And somehow feel he would be an excellent choice. We’ll see.

No matter who wins this, there will be a new President in 2012. The structural problems in America are HUGE, and no President is going to solve them.

Promising Americans that they’re going to “come back to where they were” is a pathetic lie, and a decoy to get power.

We’re going to have to realize that we live beyond our means, and start cleaning up our culture, and expectations.

No politician will say that, but that’s what we have to do. It’s gonna get way worse before it gets better.

        • Waiting4RockBottom

          Yeah you right !

There is NO WAY any new President will fix the MESS we are in.

This country will have to hit rock bottom like an addict before people realize how drastic we need to change the way we spend spend spend !

Might as well not vote this time and just …

          Keep Waiting for Rock Bottom

          • ziggy

I was thinking about that myself today. The economic trends we’ve got after nearly 8 years of republican mismanagement are so deeply embedded that we’re probably going to have an economic crisis during the next presidential administration, whoever we elect. The inflation indicators–seldom talked about–are probably the strongest signal that the sh-t is soon to hit the proverbial fan. It’s the inevitable consequence of having over-stimulated the economy through artifically suppressed interest rates and and the worst deficit spending we’ve ever seen.

The downside of electing a democrat is that the democrats would probably take the political heat for what the republicans caused.

The downside of electing a republican is that nothing constructive would be done to turn the situation around until another 4 years have passed, and by then much of the damage might be permanent.

Too bad Sen Clinton won’t be Prez — I really think she and her team could have fixed the economy and gotten this country back on its feet.

No matter who wins this, there will be a new President in 2012. The structural problems in America are HUGE, and no President is going to solve them.

The next president will be little more than a fall-guy, like Jimmy Carter, inheriting years of deliberately hidden overspending.

And that’s saying a lot, because we all know the enormity of the overspending that’s visible.

Promising Americans that they’re going to “come back to where they were” is a pathetic lie, and a decoy to get power.

The only way back to where we were is to make 1.6 billion Chinese and a billion Indians into American citizens.

Basically, we have to rid ourselves of the extremest cabals in both parties — that is, of the fascistic tendencies both parties have taken up, first with the neo-cons, and now with the neo-liberals—two sides of the same coin.

  • Rozanna

100 years ago it was a right of passage for young men to wear short pants until they were “grown up”.

Well tonight Obama got his first pair of long pants.

The speech was a well laid out 1-2-3 …this is what I am going to do. It had the range of necessary issues. It was not really inspiring, not over the top celebrity, nor riveting in any way. So for those reasons it was an adequate speech. Good not great.

It was a Obama version of HRC but with out the DEPTH or HEART of Hillary or Bill. The speech seemed to me to be the speech that should have been given during the PRIMARIES.

I watch the body language. The Biden’s seem genuinely honored to be on the national stage. Right or wrong choice….Joe has earned his shot. Jill, his wife is genuine and seemed overwhelmed with the history, the moment, and her place in time.

Obama tried to sound humble but his I-I-I tells me that he is still too inexperienced, too inmature too shallow to be THE CANDIDATE. Michelle Obama’s body language always SCREAMS “Life OWES me for being AA”

P.S. The one great line…yes, it was from a movie and Michael Douglas was more convincing when he said it.

    • AntiHRC

I think you SCREAM “Life is NOT FAIR for I am FEMALE”.

I think McCain is going to stick with Pawlenty or Portman to have some kind of a fighting chance in Michigan, Ohio, and Minnesota, though i don’t think he will carry Minnesota.

I just watched “the speech”. That man is so fake anyone who doesn’t see it has blinders on or is not very astute. He took Hillary’s talking points and made them his own. He was uncomfortable uttering the words because he has no idea what they mean. His delivery was choppy and his words were empty. One thing I can spot is a fake and let me tell you, that man is a fake. He is not seeking office for the better good of our country, he is seeking office for his own selfish gain. He does not have love for our country in his heart.

OPEN LETTER TO ANY REPUBLICAN STRATEGIST OUT THERE:

IF YOU WANT TO NAIL OBAMA EXPOSING HIS BREATHTAKING HYPOCRISY, THEN SIMPLY JUXTAPOSE FOOTAGE OF THE PORTION OF HIS DNC ACCEPTANCE SPEECH WHERE HE BRAZENLY CLAIM HE WILL NOT ATTACK JOHN MCCAIN’S CHARACTER, FOR SUPPOSEDLY THAT IS NOT HIS M.O. AND HE IS WAY ABOVE SUCH SLIMEY TACTICS, WITH FOOTAGE OF HIM DURING THE PRIMARIES WHERE HIS HOLIER-THAN-THOU-Ness ATTACKS HILLARY ON CHARACTER ISSUES, NAMELY THE NUMEROUS INSTANCES WHERE HE KEPT SAYING “YOU CANT TRUST HER. SHE’LL SAY ANYTHING TO WIN!

Note: That attack was pure character assassination as well as gender-baiting. To attack someone on such a fundamental thing as trustworthiness is to attack their character. Duh! The gender-baiting naturally results from the fact that any grossly unfair criticism (and which actually sticks) of the only woman in the race invariably leads people to think that what makes her different, i.e. her shady character and untrustworthiness, is due to her gender. If Hillary was actually lying or resorting to unfair attacks on Obama, e.g. race-baiting and whatnot, then one can indeed call her untrustworthy. But as we all know, she was NOT the one race-baiting—Barack O’Bullshit was. Hillary’s criticism of Obama merely called into question his lack of experience and lack of accomplishments, as well as his craven flip-flopping which were ALL TRUE for never in the history of American politics was there ever a major candidate with only 1 year of US Senate experience under his belt, on top of having NO executive experience whatsoever such as serving as a governor.

The same argument applies to race: Fair attacks are NEVER racist simply because context (the full facts) overrides subtext (deeply ingrained social and cultural biases); and of course, grossly unfair attacks, including seemingly race-neutral ones, invariably lead people to associate corruption with skin color. That is, when the full context (of the accusation) is somehow corrupt, then subtext kicks in. But since full context is that Obama is a pathlogical liar and degenerate race-baiter, the racial subtext NEVER kicks in, at least when it concerns Hillary camp. And anyone who constantly cites the racial subtext on Obama’s behalf (w.r.t. to Bill, Hillary, Geraldine, Ed Rendell, Nader, George McGovern, etc.) is the one divisively playing the race card.

Obama’s African American bots, including Donna Brazil, Eugene “I’ve got a Giant ManCrush on Barack” Robinson, Bob “I see Dicks!” Herbert, et al, have all misapplied this argument repeatedly. Indeed deliberately, for how can one keep citing racism on every single statement but not see it in:

    1. “Typical white person
    2. “They’re bitter… And they cling to… antipathy towards those that are not like them… antipathy towards immigrants.
    3. Obama’s defending Wright’s anti-white diatribe, including the viscious attacks on Hillary, only to later condemn him for “exploiting the divisions of the past”. Defending Trinity Church, only to leave it 2 months later. Nothing makes sense here. The grotesque self-contradictions alone should be a hint and a half that something is deeply wrong with Obama.
    4. Obama’s rightly and immediately condemnation of Don Imus vs his (initial) defending Wright. It was not until Wright more or less called Obama a con man and bullshit artist that Obama finally condemned his former spiritual mentor.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioYrNYsNUfY —Obama condemns Imus with total moral clarity.

    5. “They’re gonna say he’s got a funny name… And by the way, did I mention that he’s black?”

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y4bx-ccbSic —O’Bullshit race-baiting McCain. The GOP has race-baited Obama, and so has the corporate media. But McCain has NEVER done it. Obama has excellent control of his language: He knows better than to say “they” for that would lump McCain in with the people who actually did race-bait Obama.

P.S. ALSO USE FOOTAGE OF MICHELLE OBAMA PLAYING THE GENDER CARD AGAINST HILLARY.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sN1qZMBE9Gc —Michelle “bros before ho’s” Obama blaming the woman for what the man did. Moreover, nevermind that MLK and Jesse Jackson, Washinton, Jefferson, FDR, JFK, LBJ (Civil Rights act of 1964), IKE (Little Rock national guard incident), etc., all had extramarital affairs too.

Barack O’bullshit seems to have some serious problems with not just incessant race-baiting, but brazen hypocrisy.

P.P.S. On the other hand, Biden’s comment that Obama is “clean” was without question racist. Go figure. LOL.

It is said that about 75,000 to 80,000 people, or bots really, attended Obama’s big speech. Big whup!

LOL, when you bring in a multitude of celebrities to attend, rock stars to perform, (and give free food and drink as in Berlin,) you can easily attract huge crowds. If Peewee Herman did the same thing, he’d get at least the same numbers of Peewee bots.

BTW, in 2004, John Kerry got 100,000 people at a rally in Wisconsin. But then again, many say it was because Bill Clinton and Bruce Springsteen were also there.

In 1996, Bill Clinton and German Chancellor Helmut Kohl drew a crowd of about 100,000 in Milwaukee, Wis. Or was it 200,000?

And for sure, no one can top Louis Farrakhan’s 1995 “MILLION MAN MARCH”:

Okay folks, i came here over and over and posted and shared my anger and ranted against Obama for months now. I supported my girl to the end just like most of you.

I thought that most folks here supported and backed Hillary because she was the better candidate, i still believe that she is the better candidate. I also thought that we disliked Obama because we wanted our girl to win. However, the fight is over. Our girl, bless her heart, fought like hell, but she came up a bit short. You can fairly argue that it wasn’t a fair fight and that the damn media were against her. And you can certainly argue that she was a better candidate that her campaign. She was ill served by her campaign big time. Despite all of that, oh she put up a hell of a fight. She never backed down or surrender and i am in awe of her. Many strong men would have folded like a cheap chair before or under that tremendous pressure, but not her. She’s got more balls than all Congress put together and i love her for that.

However, the fight is over. I am a proud democrat and will always be one. I am also a Vietnam Vet and will never always any fucker here or anywhere else to question my patriotism or my dedication for his country. If you question it, i will then ask you to have a mortar shell explodes in your stomach, have the majority of your intestine removed, 2/3 of your liver removed and function with one kidney. When you pay such a price for you country, you come to me and talk to me about putting country first and a party second. Until then, i tell you to shut your month, say thank you and get on your way.

As i was saying the fight is over, if you are really Democrats and your only motivation for disliking Obama is your sincere and noble support for Senator Clinton, well she lost and he made peace with herself and she accepted her defeat and now she is supporting Obama. I then ask you honestly to put your squabbles to the side and vote for Obama because McCain is just ain’t it.

However, if your motivation for disliking him is racial or ethnic or some kind of damn crazy conspiracy theory, well i tell you to grow up because you start sounding like those Japanese soldiers stuck on aa deserted island in the pacific who were still fighting thinking that the war wasn’t over. This is to say that you are fighting a lost war racially, ethnically and even on the conspiracy side of it.

This is your call and it is up to you folks. Most of you here are old enough to know what is wrong and right. If you are Democrats as you pretend and you can look at yourself in a mirror and honestly say that you are voting for McCain because deep down you believe he is better that Bambi, well let me break it down for you and tell you ain’t democrats. Oh and just one more thing before i wrap this up, I’ve witnessed many many many many elections in my life time, and i think Bambi and democrats will win this one because the mood of country favors him over McCain and the republicans.

As for me, i will be voting for my second choice candidate because i can’t fucking stand the republicans. I am a damn stubborn Irish and the only two things i hate more than the republicans are pedophiles and terrorists. That tells you my order of priorities when it comes to politics.

Good luck to you and god bless.

    • nobonomo

I am a Democrat but I will in no way vote for Barack Obama. He is the same guy that he was last month and the month before that. All of the reasons that existed for not electing him then still exist today.

I won’t put our country at risk by electing a man with no accomplishment, no skills, no history of anything that qualifies him for the job. When you turn off the bright lights and silence the music he is still the same empty suit that he was before, the same person that you didn’t think was good enough until you fell for the old razzle dazzle.

No sell. No way, no how, no Obama.

    • Anonymous

You forget that there’s a third reason to oppose Obama: Not because you are for Hillary or a racist but because one believes that Obama is totally unsuited for the job of president of the USA. He has no track record, his whole life is a mystery and gets covered up methodically, his supporters and camapign use bullying tactics and his solutions to the big problems are just words and not grounded in real life. He has lied to the American people, he has listened to Rev Wright’s hate tirades for years, he has connections to people like Rezko and Ayers etc. If Obama gets elected the world will be a very dangerous place.

      • CHRIS

McCain folks has PTSD. I have suffered from PTSD most of my life and i know it when i see it. Did you see him when he is challenged or asked a tough question? Did you see how clinches his jaws and get red faced and starts to sweat? What do you think that is? Those are classic symptoms of PTSD. I had them for years and i still have them.

Moreover, i ran into my Senator in late December in a Christmas party. We talked about the race on the republican side since he is a republican. Back then, he was relieved that McCain had no chances of winning the republican primary because my senator thought that McCain is not suited to be president. He said that the thought of having McCain in the oval office scares the hell out of him. This is a republican senator talking, not me.

    • noproblama

Hey Chris, I used to feel the same way about Republicans. I thought they were greedy, selfish people that would pander to anyone or for anything just so they wouldn’t have to pay any more taxes.

Well, greed I can handle. I don’t like it, but then this Obama thing creeps me out big time and worries me even more. It’s ugly at it’s core – like the evil Democratic twin has taken over the body.

No, we have to nip this in the bud. It’s a damn shame it has to be this way but really, Obama is a crooked self-promoter with no business running for president. His campaign and supporters alone are enough to make me jump ship.

If that makes me not a Democrat anymore, so be it.

  • Monet

Out of a forty-five minute acceptance speech, 90% of it has been heard before. It’s what every Democratic candidate promises the working class and the liberal intellectuals. It’s the remaining 10%, that came at the end of the speech that is noteworthy. I’m going to paste it here for your perusing pleasure and then take it apart for my nitpicking pleasure. (I’m a virgo, I can’t help it). It’s long, but it says so much when you read between the lines.

“These are the policies I will pursue. And in the weeks ahead I look forward to debating them with John McCain. But, what I will not do, is suggest the Senator takes his positions for political purposes. Because one of the things that we have to change in our politics is the idea that people cannot disagree without challenging each other’s character and each other’s patriotism. The times are too serious. The stakes are too high for this same partisan play book. So let’s us agree that patriotism has no party. I love this country and so do you and so does John McCain. The men and women who serve in our battlefields maybe democrats and republicans and independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a red American or a blue America, they have served the United States of America. So I’ve got news for you John McCain, we all put our country first. America, our work will not be easy, the challenges we face require tough choices. Democrats as well as Republicans will need to cast off the worn out ideas of politics of the past. For part of what has been lost these past eight years, can’t just be measured by lost wages or bigger trade deficits. But has also been lost is our sense of common purpose. And that’s what we have to restore. We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country.”

[He then goes onto list what else we disagree about: Guns, gay/lesbian rights, immigration].

“But this too is part of America’s promise. The promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort. I know there are those who dismiss such beliefs as happy talk, they claim our insistence on something larger, something firmer and more honest in our public life is just a Trojan horse for higher taxes and the abandonment of traditional values. Because if you don’t have any fresh ideas, you use stale tactics to scare voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from. You make a big election about small things. And you know what, it’s worked before. Because it feeds into the cynicism we all have about government. When Washington doesn’t work, all it’s promises seem empty. If your hopes have been dashed again and again, then it’s best to stop hoping and settle for what you already know. I get it. I realize I’m not the likeliest candidate for this office. I don’t fit the typical pedigree. And I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington. But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the naysayers don’t understand is this election has never been about me. It’s about you. It’s about you. For eighteen long months you have stood up, one by one and said enough of the politics of the past. You understand that in this election the greatest risk we can take is to try the same old politics with the same old players and expect a different result. You have shown what history teaches us. That in defining moments like this one, the change we need doesn’t come from Washington, change comes to Washington. Change happens, change happens because the American people demand it. They rise up and insist on new ideas and new leadership. And new politics for a new time. America, this is one of those moments. I believe that as hard as it will be, the change we need is coming. Because I’ve seen it. Because I’ve lived it. Because I’ve seen it in Illinois when we provided health care to more children and moved more families from welfare to work. I’ve seen it in Washington when we worked across party lines to open up government and hold lobbyists accountable, to get better care for our veterans and keep nuclear weapons out of the hands of terrorists.”

[Senator Obama mentions MLK and ties him into the speech.]

“As we walk we must make the pledge we will always march ahead. We cannot turn back. America we cannot turn back. Not with so much work to be done. Not with so many children to educate. And so many veterans to care for. Not with an economy to fix. And cities to rebuild and farms to save. Not with so many families to protect and so many lives to mend. America we cannot turn back. We cannot walk alone, at this moment, in this election we must pledge once more to march into the future. Let’s us keep that promise, that American promise. And in the words of scripture, hold firmly, without wavering to the hope we confess. Thank you. God bless you. And God bless the United States of America.”

    Let’s start with this:

“”These are the policies I will pursue. I love this country and so do you and so does John McCain.”

If Senator McCain tells you my best buddy is William Ayers and he got me all of my jobs, I used my influence to help Rezko with his criminal activities, I have dual citizenship, I belonged to and supported a radical church and Rev. Wright, etc… that doesn’t mean I don’t love America. I’m a patriot. Don’t worry about my ineligibility because of dual citizenship and my association with radicals, it’s just plain silly. I’m as American as John McCain and you.

“The men and women who serve in our battlefields maybe democrats and republicans and independents, but they have fought together and bled together and some died together under the same proud flag. They have not served a red American or a blue America, they have served the United States of America. So I’ve got news for you John McCain, we all put our country first. America, our work will not be easy, the challenges we face require tough choices. Democrats as well as Republicans will need to cast off the worn out ideas of politics of the past.”

If Senator McCain dares to tell the truth about my background, he’s kicking all of our military who are risking their lives in service to this nation. Challenge me and you challenge the patriotism of our military. I’ll make sure of it. Senator McCain will become the former POW who doesn’t think today’s military loves their country.

“For part of what has been lost these past eight years, can’t just be measured by lost wages or bigger trade deficits. But has also been lost is our sense of common purpose. And that’s what we have to restore. We may not agree on abortion, but surely we can agree on reducing the number of unwanted pregnancies in this country.”

If Senator McCain insists on bringing up all that stuff I’m working so hard to keep hidden, I’m going to whine that he’s not working with us to find common goals to work towards on the issues that divide us as a country: abortion, same sex marriage, guns and immigration. When talking about immigration, Senator Obama said: “I don’t know anyone who benefits when a mother is separated from her infant child.” Where did that come from? Did I miss something in the news where a woman was deported without her child? Or is this something that relates to his family background?

“But this too is part of America’s promise. The promise of a democracy where we can find the strength and grace to bridge divides and unite in common effort. I know there are those who dismiss such beliefs as happy talk, they claim our insistence on something larger, something firmer and more honest in our public life is just a Trojan horse for higher taxes and the abandonment of traditional values. Because if you don’t have any fresh ideas, you use stale tactics to scare voters. If you don’t have a record to run on, then you paint your opponent as someone people should run from.”

Senator McCain has no new ideas, no record to run on and he’s going to tell you lots of bad things about me to scare you. He’s not going to work with me or you to unite and build a better America. Instead he’s going to tell you I’m a wolf in sheep’s clothing, the enemy hidden in a Trojan horse and that I don’t hold the traditional values of American because I like to hang out with Ayers, Wright and Rezko.

“You make a big election about small things. And I haven’t spent my career in the halls of Washington.”

My background, citizenship, association with radicals and inexperience are small things. Silly things. They’re unimportant. If you listen to the Republicans, you’ll settle for what you have now and your hopes will be dashed forever.

“But I stand before you tonight because all across America something is stirring. What the naysayers don’t understand is this election has never been about me. It’s about you.”

When they say all those things about me, remember this election is about you, not me. It doesn’t matter that my background is questionable and I may be ineligible to be president. What matters is you and you need a leader like me, even if the Constitution doesn’t agree.

“For eighteen long months you have stood up, one by one and said enough of the politics of the past. And new politics for a new time.”

Remember you want me. You don’t care if I have a half dozen citizenships with other nations. You don’t care I used the backs of radicals, domestic terrorists and criminals to further my career from my first job after college to running for president because you understand Washington needs new leadership to come to it. Forget that moldy, old Constitution that requires I have only one citizenship and my professional and personal relationships with people who have harmed America – all it indicates is that I have new ideas for new leadership and policies for a new time.

“America, this is one of those moments.

I’ve seen the change and since I’ve seen it, you can have confidence that your world will be better with me as president. Just forget the part where I was too busy running for office or using my influence to help my friends Rezko and Ayers to have actually worked on any of that legislation I’ve seen.

“”As we walk we must make the pledge we will always march ahead.

I’ve been chosen now. You can’t throw me under the bus when my past is revealed. Don’t even think about it. If you take away my candidacy before November 4th or vote for McCain, your children won’t learn to read or go to college, the veterans will lie dying in the streets, you’ll lose your jobs and won’t be able to afford a loaf of bread, the infrastructure of your cities will breakdown, the farms will disappear in a puff of smoke, your families will be threaten by criminals, terrorists and Russians with nuclear weapons and no one is going to help all those people who have already lost their jobs and homes.

I find the last part of Senator Obama’s acceptance speech to be very revealing. He’s afraid. So afraid he’s dodging the attacks before they’ve been thrown at the target. How many candidates have spent several minutes of their nomination acceptance speech in a pre-whine that the other party is going to be mean to them? You should support him because if the Republicans start talking about his citizenship, Ayers, Rezko, Wright, etc., it’s dirty politics even if it’s the truth. He’s saying it doesn’t matter if it is true. You need new leadership and I’m that person because I have dual citizenship, associate with radicals and criminals, etc…

It’s going to be an interesting autumn.

This extravaganza at Invesco (which I could not bear to watch) cost the convention an additional $4 to $5.5 million at a time when the DNC is practically broke. In order to finance this, Obama “put his fundraising team to work helping raise unlimited donations from big donors”. The DNC was already facing a shortfall of funds when Obama decided that he just had to do the Greek temple thing and that meant he had to promise an extra $5 million worth of favors to those big donors. Change we can believe in? I don’t think so.

    http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2008-08-01-Obama-convention_N.htm

    More from this link:

The Obama campaign declined to say whether Obama himself has solicited money as part of this effort

In helping raise money for the convention, the Obama campaign can seek sums significantly larger than the $2,300 maximum donations allowed by individuals for his campaign.

I understand that Obama made some references to some of his policies, like his one for a health insurance plan (or, as he prefers, health care). I think that it is time to take a close look at those proposals just to see where the federal dollars will be going. Here’s one look (and it ain’t pretty):

There are a number of late night clues that Palin will indeed be McCain’s man woman for the VP slot. She chartered a late night jet from Alaska to Ohio during the middle of the night. She has an infant son so it’s not something a mother would do lightly. Many other potential clues in this 600+ message thread.

If Palin is as competent a reformer and executive as many claim she is then Obama is in for a world of hurt starting this morning. However, the DNC made their bed and they’ll have to sleep in it now.

LOL I HOPE he picks Palin. Her state police scandal will go well with bringing up the Keating 5.

Arrgh. She opposed a ban on arial wolf hunting, but I guess she’s better than Romney. And it would be genius to make McCain’s ticket as historic as binky’s.

So Obama is finally talking about mainstream Dem’s values. But will he be able to erase everyone’s memories? I mean, are people really going to buy his spew NOW? I wish it was all real.

But I don’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth. He will say whatever he has to. Just like Michelle suddenly loves America and Hillary.

The Obamas are probably secretly steaming because they have “had to” make nice to convince “Whitey”.

I will not forget his hate-monger Uncle Wright and his racist church.

  • EyesOpen

This is the last opportunity Obama has to grandstand his best political skill, reading speeches for large adoring crowds, before November. He now needs to get real about the issues and go toe to toe with the Republicans. Real issues and direct confrontation are out of his league. And he has the controversy of Ayers, and who knows what else, brewing out there. I think we’ve seen the best of this worse candidate.

  • wodiej

nice, so he lifted another speech this time from Hillary, what a fucking bastard…..

I don’t care what McCain says or doesn’t say next week at the Republican convention. Those 527′s are going to make mincemeat out of Obama and they should. Associations w terrorists, accepting overseas contributions, voter fraud, sitting in a racist, American hating church for 20 years. He’s got very little experience and the experience he does have shows he is not really concerned about any change except what will benefit him. He made sure private developers got a stash of cash in his Chicago district and then never bothered w the poor people in his district to see how things were going. In a way some of this is different. I don’t believe we’ve ever had someone running for President who was friends w a terrorist or sat in a radical, racist, American hating church for 20 years.

It’s too bad because Obama very well may have made a good President one day. All he would have had to do was go down the path of good instead of evil. He chose to cheat, lie and steal his way to success. In the end, no one ever gets away w it. Sooner or later it all catches up to you. It’s plain and simple karma baby. And even affirmative action won’t save you because God doesn’t judge us based on our skin color.

    To quote Hillary:

  • swami420

Please get over it…you are all foolish to even think McCain can bring anything to the table. It is not the person in charge, but those who are around him and advise…Compare Biden with Cheney…sorry, I am not an Obamabot – or any of the other critical terms you will come back and accuse me of…I just want to see what direction this Country will take – if you vote for McCain – it is a vote for the wrong track we have been on for 8 years. If you vote for Obama – at least there is a chance that this Country will be revived to its former place in the world…It may get worse – but you could count on that with McCain…
The important challenge is to make sure we have a Democratic super-majority in the Senate. We need to get this Great Country moving.

    • ranpha

Apparently you think Sen. McCain will bring certain doom while Sen. Obama will be able to restore America to its former glory. Why is that? From his extremely thin track record, I do not think Sen. Obama has anything to bring to the table. Inferior health care for something, compared to Hillary or Edwards. Or even McCain. The jaw-dropping Global Poverty Act 2007 is another of those issues (if you want to solve global poverty, I think it is better if UN is bypassed). Then with his advisers and mentors like Ayers, Wright, Rezko etc., you really sure Sen. Obama can get America on the right direction?

No way! No how! No McCain!

  • DancingOpossum

Go to the PUMApac site. They are not giving an inch.

Look, it was a good speech. Obama sounded like a Democrat. He sounded sincere ans strong and forward-looking. It would be easy to give in, to get swept up in of it. Especially for me, as a staunch Democrat and someone who fervently belives in all those things he was talking about. But as I was watching it I kept thinking, “Yes, wouldn’t it be wonderful it that were all true–if it could only be true that we could make t his all happen.”

Because I don’t think Barack actually believes any of it. I don’t believe he gives a damn. I don’t think he’s a true Democrat. I think Dodd is; I think Kucinich is; I know Ted Kennedy is. I damn well know both Clintons are.

Damn it. I hate what these New Democrats have done.

    • http://obamafact.blogspot.com/ Mel

To bad on policy, the rightful person did not deliver it, Hillary.

But with Obama, once a crooked politician always a crooked politician who amongst other things puts his name on the works of other people who actually did the work!

    • Linda C.

      I totally agree dancingopossum.

My thoughts were ..great speech..sounds like Hillary. Obama became a democrat “today”. Too bad Obama’s record doesn’t reflect what he says.

Wouldn’t it be nice if he really had the integrity he talks about.

This speech will help him, but it will it be enough once the teleprompter is removed?

  • DancingOpossum

p.s. And Perry Logan is right, Krauthammer is a dorkwad of the highest order.

  • LarryInNoVA

I suppose Obama’s “new” Democratic message (aka Hillary’s stump speech) would be believeable if he actually embraced those values.

Remember, Obama pretended to be a progressive during the primaries, espousing to “filibuster the FISA bill,” pledging to abide by campaign funding rules during the general, and criticizing NAFTA and accused Hillary for supporting it.

However, when the primary ended, he wasted nary a nanosecond to remove his progressive facade and expose his un-Democratic, right-of-center world view.

He flipped on FISA and supported the weakening of the Fourth Amendment and the expansion of executive power, he flipped on campaign finance reform and showed his lust for laundered corporate campaign contributions, and he flipped to reveal his long-standing support for NAFTA and those transnational corporations that outsource American jobs to a global, cheap labor workforce.

Can’t get fooled again? I’m afraid many will.

Me? No way, No how, NObama.

  • Hank in PA

Obama is up to his usual plagiarism. His big line of the night about McCain not getting it is right out of

    An American President

Michael Douglass delivered that line in his role as president to describe his opponent!!!! It was the best line of the movie.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I guess Obama at least watched a good movie as part of his credentials to be president!

  • WarriorofG-d

I agree with the person who stated General Powell should be the VP- that will definitely blow Obama back to Kenya. Susan, you are sipping the koolaid finally- how does it taste?

  • maribelle

Powlenty Pawlenty said he will not be in Ohio today.

  • scorbs

Words to mean anything that you intend to act on have to come from yourself, by examining yourself. They cannot be handed to you by others.

  • DancingOpossum

Obama will get a bump in the polls but when McCain and the 527s unleash their full-on attack it’s going to be brutal. Obama defunded the Democratic 527s and has nothing to counter with.

Whatever McCain may be doing right or wrong, one thing for certain is his advertising team is brilliant. The new McCain ad, “Remote Control” is devastating. And he is just getting warmed up.

Obama was made by the forces of marketing and advertising. Those same forces will now bring him down.

    • Thinker

      Very true.

And they can’t tell the Republicans to “play nice” the same way they did Hillary.

The GOP is going to be brutal and this time next year, Barry is going to be a trivia question.

  • http://www.delawareliberal.net BringItBitch

The fact that a lot of Republicans were shifting from McCain to Hillary when she was in the running – not because they wanted her as President, but because they thought McCain could beat her better than Obama.

And now, with their spoiler out, they’re back to McCain.

“Oh my god, 21% of Hillary supporters won’t vote for Obama!”

    Shocker.

    • RR

Bullshit. It was always Republicans voting for Obama because Hillary’s popularity was higher than Obama AND McCain. She was a shoe-in for the White House until the mischief began.

A typical Obama bully tactic is to take the truth and spin it around until it becomes the victims fault. Obama rallied Republicans to vote against Hillary early in the primary. You think he won Iowa because they liked him? Yeah, right. You wish.

  • LogicallySpeaking

Obama showed that the world that Hillary was the master since he had to copy everything she has said and done.

  • lee12

I agree with much of what has been stated here about the speech.

    Hey Obama newsflash

Copying is NOT creativity. It is NOT innovation. This will NOT put Americaback out front as a great county. Do we have the best healthcare system in the world anymore? NO! Do we have a Woman as President? No! Do we have the best light rail systems? NO!

Copying = a fad something easily reproduced
    Copying = imitation, counterfit, rip-off
    Copying = marketing facade
    Copying = mass production = 20th century!
Copying = more of the same!!!!

  • Objective Analysis

His speech did not do that. It did not explain the HOW he would achieve. It was all I and not me and Congress. He spoke like a dictator, king on a throne or emperor. Not a president who protects and preserves the constitution.

By the way, McCain is picking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. She has the executive & governing experience. All I can say is wow!

  • newstitches

The .. It’s not that John McCain doesn’t care, it’s that John McCain doesn’t get it …. is straight out of Rob Reiners movie..”American President”! (Only different name) … BO is not only using Hillary’s words, now he’s using the movies … WJC was right with the fairy tale!!!

  • kcfromtx

I thought the messiahs speech was rather boring. Seriously laughed at the outright lies about his accomplishments and upbringing. I was hoping the camera would close in on Biden when the messiah said he would change the bankruptcy laws. Uh, obie, your partner made them the way are.
His video shows he really wants to be an actor. He should get an emmy nomination for his performance in the video. After all, he refers to his appearances as performances and referred to this run as an experiment.
    McCain and anyone 2008.

  • http://www.deathofthedemocrticparty.com xax

I’m sorry, but I’m growing weary of the Dem tagline McCain=Bush. It’s not ging to work.

But other than that, if Obama can stay on message and actaully talk to working class people, he might win. The McCain camp needs to re-evaluate “the one” messages if he does that.

The only thing the McCain camp has is the “97% liberal senator” to scare people about the economics of it. I want univeral healthcare too, but we are not going to get there by implementing all of his other programs. He’ll bankrupt us.

  • csuzeq

I am certain you’ll meet up with PUMAs in the republican volunteer groups.

You can also go to 18,000,000 voices and search for a local group. I found one, but it is small.

  • Bill

Interesting you posting announcements from McCain, how does it taste up there? You clearly want 8 more years.

  • John McSAME

    “Peggy Hill” as VP!!!! HA!

  • Uña de Gato

OK, thank you for pointing that out. Now define “working families.”

  • Obama is a bum

Anyone who believes Obama will cut taxes is an extreme moron. Raising taxes is the only issue Obama has been consistent on but he has been inconsistent on the approach he will use to raise them. Again he panders for votes and vacillates. Obama has proved over and over that he is the biggest liar politics has ever seen and only cares about giving himself and micHELLe power.

  • Tyrione

Nothing you wrote addresses small businesses.

Small businesses currently don’t get the tax shelters of large corporations.

You have C class and S Class Corporations. S are small businesses.

Then you have LLC and Sole Proprietorships.

You want to readdress how not focusing on the 95% of all US Businesses without giving them tax incentives is going to help give Joe SixPack a job?

I can’t fathom how come neither the Republicans nor the Democrats can ever address small businesses.

You sure as hell would get credit if instead of giving $20 Billion to Oil Conglomerates you take the same $20 Billion and put it in a small business fund.

    Duh.

Then you actually have write standards [high ones not low hanging fruit standards] to qualify by giving more incentives to small startups of Engineering [not Web Development companies, but Electrical, Mechanical, Materials, Chemical, Civil, et.al traditional firms] to develop infrastructure solutions that exceed Green standards.

These companies producing innovations then create the second tier implementation phase that Joe SixPack fills by deploying these innovations.

HOW GODDAMN HARD IS THIS FOLKS!?

As a Mechanical Engineer and Computer Scientist I want to vomit when such “in your face” vision is never discussed.

Then Senator Clinton came along, addressed these needs with ASME, ASCE, American Society of Physicists, etc., and all she got was her solutions borrowed [but redirected] and dismissed.

This country loves to self-destruct. They get some sadomasochistic thrill out of it.

  • Hopium is the Hopiate We’ve Been Waiting For!

    Here’s a newsflash, Douglas.

The president has no control over any of those things.

He is completely at the mercy of what has already been proven to be a completely corrupted Democratic Congress.

  • Jim S

His speech tonight was rhetorical bullshit. If 95% of the country will pay no or reduced taxes, where does he plan on getting the money to pay for all his giveaways? Where is he going to get his trillion dollars (with a T) to give to the UN for the global funding for third world countries? Even the rich only have so much money and how long before a corporation that pays 25% capital gains taxes looks to move overseas where cap gains taxes are 5-10%? Then what? Then 50% of the low/no tax payers find out that they have become rich, that’s what. Long story short, if Obama gets elected everyone gets to bend over and grab their ankles. No thanks, NoBama!

  • http://msnbcmedia.msn.com/i/msnbc/sections/news/080820_NBC-WSJ_Released.pdf trixta

HS, I’m poor! I fall under those numbers you quote!

  • Dee

For months now Obama supporters have been referring to working class and blue-collar workers as “uneducated”.

    Hope that is helpful.

  • Ai1een

100% CORRECT Hopium… – once again – nothing but promises that he can’t and won’t fulfill.

  • Annie Oakley

if Obama gets elected everyone gets to bend over and grab their ankles.

He’s combining the worst of both parties. He’ll take ye old tax and spend of the Democrats and combine it with Republican cronyism. Top it all off, he doesn’t give a damn about ordinary Americans.
