I know too many people who might be able to make a difference but are so disgusted and discouraged that they don’t vote. I nag the hell out of them and explain that voting is your “ticket to bitch”. If you don’t vote, IMO, then you lose the right to bitch, long, loud and often. It’s a ticket I use frequently. I earned it by voting in every presidential election and most state and local elections for as long as I’ve been old enough to vote. I don’t consider voting a “right” or a “privilege”, I consider it a duty.

How about Senators for that matter? My Senator, Russ Feingold, made a snotty remark when someone confronted him about his support for the Heath Care Atrocity about him being in a “conservative” area of the state. I thought he was supposed to represent the “entire” state not just the liberal enclaves. I’ve voted “for” Feingold every time he ran. I will now vote “against” him until we get his partisan ass out of office. I want people that represent our state and ALL the people in it.

Taxes: 95% of Americans got a tax cut from Obama and how much lower do they want taxes to do? to zero? anarchy.

Deficit: where were the protests under Bush. most of the current deficit is from the decisions bush made and the bush recession. If teapartiers want to cut taxes then what will they cut in terms of spending to keep the deficit from going even higher? Medicare, social security, defense spending? They have no meaningful answers.

Certainly near where I live in Southwest Michigan not all farmers who hire seasonal labor are always in compliance with all the regulations.
Because if there are agricultural visas that are available but go unnfilled, I suppose it must mean the workers are either improperly hired or not being paid the wages they should.

But the competition for farm labor across states and with other industries like construction and service is important for recruitment so it does seem to help keep living conditions up to some extent. So we like to believe the vast majority of mostly apple and blueberry growers treat their employees with respect, because they want good workers to return. And Michigan is in the top 5 of agricultural states — On the other hand, with an unemployment rate at 14% and a projected state budget deficit of $1.7 billion, I don’t know of any scientifically sound data to back up the claim.
