Will Rod Blagojevich be Obama’s Monica Lewinsky?

Rod Blagojevich, ousted Governor of Illinois, has a face (and hair) that cartoonists usually can only dream about. But there is some mighty serious stuff in the wings. It has even been suggested that Rod Blagojevich could possibly bring down the President of the United States!*

Blagojevich is not going quietly into that good night. In fact he seems to relish media attention. You may have caught him on Donald’s Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice before he got fired.

The latest exposure opportunity fell right into his lap. Blagojevich and his lawyers filed a motion to have President Obama give testimony in his upcoming trial in which he will defend himself against federal corruption charges, conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud, attempting to auction off the U.S. Senate seat previously held by President Obama, and fundraising abuses as well as other pay to play schemes.

In the meantime, someone who knows squat about PDF files made a blunder the size of Pluto. (Or was it? You decide.)

We—as in you and me—were only supposed to see some parts of this subpoena. A lot of it was blackened out by court order, which contained all of the good stuff. BUT, if you have the right version of Adobe Acrobat, all you have to do is “copy file to clip board” and paste that into a document. Voila! Not only do the black-outs disappear, but the redacted text conveniently appears in bold so you can’t possibly miss it! (See if you can do it.)

What does the redacted text tell us about what Blagojevich and his attorneys think they know about Obama? If they are right, the President has some ‘splaining to do!

For those of you who can’t manipulate the PDF file, here is what we were not supposed to see, as nicely summarized by The Ward Room and NBC.

1. Obama may have lied about conversations with convicted fraudster Tony RezkoBlagojevich’s lawyers allege that Rezko admitted breaking the law by contributing “a large sum of cash” to a public official. Blagojevich’s attorneys say that public official is Obama. Obama said that Rezko never relayed a request from a lobbyist to hold a fundraiser in favor of favorable legislative action. But the point may be moot: regardless of Obama talking/not talking to Rezko, Blagojevich’s attorneys say that Obama refused the request regardless.
Redacted portion: However, the defense has a good faith belief that Mr. Rezko, President Obama’s former friend, fund-raiser, and neighbor told the FBI and the United States Attorneys a different story about President Obama. In a recent in camera proceeding, the government tendered a three paragraph letter indicating that Rezko “has stated in interviews with the government that he engaged in election law violations by personally contributing a large sum of cash to the campaign of a public official who is not Rod Blagojevich. Further, the public official denies being aware of cash contributions to his campaign by Rezko or others and denies having conversations with Rezko related to cash contributions. Rezko has also stated in interviews with the government that he believed he transmitted a quid pro quo offer from a lobbyist to the public official, whereby the lobbyist would hold a fundraiser for the official in exchange for favorable official action, but that the public official rejected the offer. The public official denies any such conversation. In addition, Rezko has stated to the government that he and the public official had certain conversations about gaming legislation and administration, which the public official denies having had.
Redacted footnote: The defense has a good faith belief that this public official is Barack Obama.

2. Obama may have overtly recommended Valerie Jarret for his Senate seat
Blagojevich’s defense team basically alleges that Obama told a certain labor union official that he (Obama) would support Valerie Jarrett’s candidacy for the Senate seat. Jarrett, referred to as “Senate Candidate B”, is now a senior advisor to the president.
Redacted portion: Yet, despite President Obama stating that no representatives of his had any part of any deals, labor union president told the FBI and the United States Attorneys that he spoke to labor union official on November 3, 2008 who received a phone message from Obama that evening. After labor union official listened to the message labor union official told labor union president “I’m the one”. Labor union president took that to mean that labor union official was to be the one to deliver the message on behalf of Obama that Senate Candidate B was his pick. (Labor union president 302, February 2, 2009, p. 7).

Labor union official told the FBI and the United States Attorneys “Obama expressed his belief that [Senate Candidate B] would be a good Senator for the people of Illinois and would be a candidate who could win re-election. [Labor union official] advised Obama that [labor union official] would reach out to Governor Blagojevich and advocate for [Senate Candidate B] … [Labor union official] called [labor union president] and told [labor union president] that Obama was aware that [labor union official] would be reaching out to Blagojevich.” (Labor union official 302, February 3, 2009 p. 3).

3. A supporter of President Obama may have offered quid pro quo on a Jarrett senate appointment
Redacted portion: Supporter of Presidential Candidate Obama is mentioned in a phone call on November 3, 2008, having offered “fundraising” in exchange for Senate Candidate B for senator (Blagojevich Home Phone Call # 149).

4. Obama maintained a list of good Senate candidates
Redacted portion: President-elect Obama also suggested Senate Candidate A to Governor Blagojevich. John Harris told the FBI and the United States Attorneys that he spoke to President’s Chief of Staff on November 12, 2008. Harris took notes of the conversation and wrote that President’s Chief had previously worked as Blagojevich’s press secretary. Obama agreed of Staff told Harris that Senate Candidate A was acceptable to Obama as a senate pick. (Harris handwritten notes, OOG1004463) President’s Chief of Staff told the FBI that “he could not say where but somewhere it was communicated to him that” Senate Candidate A was a suggested candidate viewed as one of the four “right” candidates “by the Obama transition team.”

5. Rahm Emanuel allegedly floated Cheryl Jackson’s name for the Senate seat
Redacted portion: President’s Chief of Staff told the FBI that he had a conversation discussing the Senate seat with Obama on December 7, 2008 in Obama’s car. President’s Chief of Staff told the FBI “Obama expressed concern about Senate Candidate D being appointed as Senator.

[President’s Chief of Staff] suggested they might need an expanded list to possibly include names of African Americans that came out of the business world. [President’s Chief of Staff] thought he suggested Senate Candidate E who was the head of the Urban League and with President’s Chief of Staff’s suggestion.

6. Obama had a secret phone call with Blagojevich
Redacted portion: President-elect Obama also spoke to Governor Blagojevich on December 1, 2008 in Philadelphia. On Harris Cell Phone Call # 139, John Harris and Governor’s legal counsel discuss a conversation Blagojevich had with President-elect Obama. The government claims a conspiracy existed from October 22, 2008 continuing through December 9, 2008.6 That conversation is relevant to the defense of the government’s theory of an ongoing conspiracy. Only Rod Blagojevich and President Obama can testify to the contents of that conversation. The defense is allowed to present evidence that corroborates the defendant’s testimony.

So, could Blago turn out to be Obama’s Monica Lewinsky? Doubtful, as Obama can claim some form of executive privilege. But that would also raise eyebrows, sort of like taking the 5th. Stay tuned.

*See Firedog Lake for a scenario (last paragraph) whereby the Republicans could use these revelations, if true, to impeach Obama.

obama to Rod….”you’ve got a real purty mouth” 8-)

Seems, from what we have seen, obama will do or say anything to get out from under any cloud of suspicion……as weasels always do!!

I don’t think he can claim executive privilege. These conversations happened before he became president.

Pat, you’re on roll today. Two toons, and both excellent! Your headline, however, caused me almost to choke, as I immediately formed a mental image of Blago in a blue dress. =-O

Wouldn’t it be poetic justice if his Chicago connections, which did so much to pave his way to the WH also are responsible for creating the road for his return to that lovely city.

Saw a report today about some people there asking for the National Guard to come in to help because of all the killings, etc. Where are the protestors? The National Guard–would they get to ask for immigration papers?

Blago does nothing without his wife listening in. Her dad, Mel, is the Chicago Finance Boss. Alderman Dick Mell is the head of the City Council Finance Committee – Daley prays to him. Patty knows everything that Rob knows. The FBI knew that Obama was a crook and they are not fighting this “leak” very much. Boy. Holder has his work cut out for him. He has to be knee boy for Obama AND try to keep the FBI in check. I bet they have been investigatin him as well so they will have leverage to do their job. This could get interesting.

  • TeakWoodKite

Pat, depends on if Blago wears a blue dress. :-[

  • I’m a Linda too

It sure would be nice that Obama finally get nailed for his dirty dealings. Rod also mentoned Rezko on Greta. It’s still amazing Obama has been covered for all his shit!.

  • BuzzLatte

Blago did a great job of lobbing the ball into the fed’s court. He turned the suspicion spotlight on them by revealing that not all of the tapes or complete portions were going to be played during the upcoming trial by the feds.

What are they trying to hide?
Who are they protecting by not playing all the tapes?
When did the know that the tapes were potentially damaging to certain players whose downfalls are going to be more spectacular and far reaching the Blogojevich’s alone?

If Blago isn’t his Monica, he certainly is his Halderman.

  • WestVirginia304

To be clear. I mean that the FBI has been investigating Holder. If your boss does not support you, you do that. They don’t give up on cases they know they can win. They have goods on Obama. Pat. You have touched on the story that will rock the world, even if the Major Sucking MotherFlackingSonsaBthings (The MSM) goes to sleep on this one. IT will get legs.

    O/T:

I’ve been gone most of the day and I don’t know if anybody has seen this:

OBAMA ORDERS US TROOPS TO MARCH IN RED SQUARE MAY 9

[Update: This story was first posted here 3/28/10. With May 9th approaching, it's time to move the story back to the top, especially considering the recent plane crash that killed Poland's president Lech Kaszinksy and 94 others in Russia, and let's not forget Obama's recent snub of Georgia. Americans should be asking why our "Commander in Chief" is making our troops do this.]

What the hell! If you had any doubts about Obama’s attachment to Communist leaders, then this will likely confirm your fears. As for the role of the British, all I will say is that there is a fine line between the UK’s socialist populace and many people there who are virtually indistinguishable from communists. Yes, we were allies with Russia in our war with the Nazi’s, but we now know that Stalin was a mass murderer. It is shameful for an American President to force our troops to march in Red Square.

At what point will Americans call for Obama’s impeachment for marching us down the road to tyranny? [See poll in the sidebar].CONTINUED BELOW

    Parade’s End
    PowerLineBlog

Last week the British Embassy announced that British, French and American troops would march with Russian soldiers on Red Square to mark the 65th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany. The Brits said in a statement that the parade may mark the first time British troops have marched in Red Square; I believe the same observation applies to the American troops that will join the parade.
The AP helpfully explains that Victory Day is Russia’s most important secular holiday. It adds that the Kremlin plans a larger parade than usual this year, with good reason. The Kremlin will be celebrating the addition of the British, French and American troops.

Given his detestation of the Brits, Barack Obama must have agonized about dispatching American troops to join them in Red Square. Nevertheless, the opportunity to march with a dictator hostile to the United States proved irresistible in the end. If only the Israelis had gotten there first, perhaps Obama would have begged off.

I’m not sure what explains the Brits’ move to join the parade. Alluding to the role that circumstances played in the wartime alliance with Stalin, Churchill famously observed that If Hitler invaded hell he would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons. Circumstances do not excuse, let alone dictate, any such compliment to the Putin regime. Quite the contrary.
Kim Zigfeld writes that when she read the news, “I was ashamed to call myself an American, ashamed to admit that Barack Obama was my president.” Zigfeld’s commentary and indignation deserve your attention.

JOHN adds: The timing is particularly bad in that, for the first time in many years, the City of Moscow is planning on putting up posters of Stalin as part of its Victory Day celebration. So Obama will be able to honor not only the would-be dictator Putin, but the real thing.

    This is so messed up

    http://www.nytimes.com/2010/04/28/us/28abortion.html?partner=rss&emc=rss

The Oklahoma Legislature voted Tuesday to override the governor’s vetoes of two abortion measures, one of which requires women to undergo an ultrasound and listen to a detailed description of the fetus before getting an abortion.

Though other states have passed similar measures requiring women to have ultrasounds, Oklahoma’s law goes further, mandating that a doctor or technician set up the monitor so the woman can see it and describe the heart, limbs and organs of the fetus. No exceptions are made for rape and incest victims.

A second measure passed into law on Tuesday prevents women who have had a disabled baby from suing a doctor for withholding information about birth defects while the child was in the womb.

  • Robb

I HATE Ultrasound. It should be only used for medical informational purposes – not propaganda.
Last year i reluctantly watched as a doctor rearranged my daughter’s stomach so he could get nice baby pictures. he did this every month. I think my expression registered my extreme disapproval.
Just before it was to be born the baby died suddenly and my daughter had to delivern it stillborn. Forget the damned Ultrasound. I feel sorry for the women in Oklahoma. Their male legislators are sadists.

  • jwrjr

Maybe not, but he will try. Look at how much Boooosh got away with. The Lamestream Media, Pelousy and Reid will back him on the matter.

My wife is an L&D nurse and a big proponent of prenatal care including ultrasound. She tells me almost everyday about women that come in to deliver and have had zero prenatal. Even the ones with insurance.

She is sleeping so I can’t ask, but I believe the recommendation is for all women to have ultrasound during the second trimester, when the fetus is nearing viable at 20 weeks.

Ellen, what your daughters doc did sounds like a horrible and unnecessarlly invasive abnormal procedure.

So, all women should be getting NORMAL ultrasound anyway for the health of the mother and baby.

But, like any other MANDATE, if the legislature feels it’s that important, then they need to pony up for the cost.

Women, or any patient, should have the right to sue if the doctor witholds any information about the patient’s or child’s health, in or out of the womb.

On a side note, I recently had ultrasound to check the healing of a gigantic hernia. I’ve also seen ultra sound of a fetus, not mine.

My response to the tech’s description – “Ok, if you say so” It looks like a lot of nothing to me.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

    Back on topic…

Obama’s bigger problem than Blago and Rezko (not that those deals are not big) is his alleged offer of a Cabinet appointment to Congressman Joe Sestak to drop out of the PA Senate Primary against Spector.

If the Repubs take Congress and the Senate, I’ll bet the mortgage that Obama goes down for that deal.

That kind of offer can only come direct from the Top Dog, which Sestak has alleged it did.

They all get in power doing slimy deals along the way, and then think that they can do anything.

Eisenhower may be the only exception in my lifetime. I was still in the cradle then so don’t burst my bubble.

JFK although admired, had his dead Chicago voters (Exposed by a young Hillary Clinton), LBJ was wheeler dealer extraordinaire.

At the time the Sestak offer was made, I am sure Obama was not thinking he was going to lose his Congressional Majorities.

  • Clara

Please understand what you are saying when you describe things like “needle in the fetus”. As a healthcare worker very familiar with obstetrical procedures I can say with surety that there is no such mandatory procedure. There may be an amniocentesis where a small portion of fluid is removed for testing of maturity or genetic abnormalities but unless there is actual fetal surgery, there is no mandatory needle in the fetus. Nothing is mandatory. Patients can refuse treatment.

Great story and toon, Pat. I’ve tried to follow this dark and seemly tale from the writings of Evelyn Pringle but lordy, it was convoluted and everything intertwined. No one listened to her then.

As for Rezko, where is he? Ever been sentenced? The CW was that he was holding out with info during the interviews with US attorneys hoping for an Obama pardon and assuming he’d be elected. Would he have spilled his guts to an extent that Obama could be hurt?

You know, what’s amazing about this is that it’s been the same in Illinois forever.

In 1970 Illinois Secretary of State Paul Powell died of a heart attack. When they cleared out his hotel residence suite in Springfield, they found $800,000 in cash stuffed into shoe boxes.

The story ever after was that Powell’s heart attack was triggered when he opened a shoe box and found a pair of shoes.

There are wonderful, caring people in Illinois but they’re outgunned by the crooks.

Those stories all came out before and during the Rezko trail. It is all in the testimony. Drugs and sex fueled the money making corrupt political machine.

It was all men of power and their boy toys at the hotel with their wives and children at home in their mansions oblivious to the “i have to work late” bull.

Funny enough, Larry Sinclair came out with his story long before the trial testimony made it all highly likely to be true. What he claimed happened did happen constantly among these Chicago politicians and their gay lovers.

The judge stopped the testimony whenever it started delving into the parties but enough was said to make it clear, and there were news columns in the Chicago press with witnesses who told their stories on the side.

helenk, Even better, any attendees should exercise their freedom of speech right back at him. This sounds just like the kind of thing Ayers and his kind would do — use the the law when it supports you regardless of the honor of it. And this is what obama, blago and rezko and the rest of that club will do in the continuing pay-to-play scandal.

  • Murray

    Absolutely correct, Clara!

True Story: Wife had flu when 9-months pregnant. At the hospital, an ultrasound showed that the baby’s heartbeat was irregular, “probably umbilical cord wrapped around his neck,” they said, and recommended a c-section.

We didn’t agree. Administrators told us we had to sign a paper admitting “parental negligence” (we didn’t). As the ensuing argument overflowed into the hallway, a nurse (who was not a hospital nurse, but a teacher of nursing at a local university, who was only there to do work on her PhD) picked up the ultrasound paddles and actually stood there and held them to my wife’s belly for the full time it took to get a good read.

She told my wife, “this machine hasn’t been working right all week.”

Went home, baby was born at home, all is well (baby is now 18 yrs old).

I always wondered why the investigation stopped when it did. It seemed to me better to let it continue and show direct evidence where payment/favor/whatever was given and received to secure the Senate Seat for the person Obama wanted. It seems when it’s reported to the cops that somone wants to hire someone to kill their spouse, the cops then have to get proof of intent (asking specifically) and then payment has to exchange hands. It’s the best way to secure a conviction.

I can only imagine if this has played out and Blago took payment or favor or whatever to appoint Valerie Jarrett or someone else Obama (or his minions) wanted. Cutting the investigation early helped Obama and his merry band of insiders and makes me wonder why when letting this run it’s course would’ve have made for a stronger legal case and round up more lawbreakers.

I heard Sestak in an interview on the local Philly talk station. He is really going after Specter and is not going to just fade off into the sunset. It will be interesting to watch this soap opera unfold and whether Obama will stay safely on the sidelines. I’m thinking since Sestak called his bluff and spoke publicly about the offer Obama made him, it’s a shot that Obama and his gang should stay out of the PA primary and let it be between Specter and Sestak only. Time will tell. Specter is on the same station tonight to add his comments.

I think if anything brings Obama and his croonies down it will not necessarily be the crime but the cover up ala Martha Stewart.

I think if anything brings Obama and his cronies down, it will not necessarily be the crime but the cover up. Just ask Martha Stewart

…”and then payment has to exchange hands.”

Do remember, it was the fact that Obama wanted to defer “payment” for at least “a couple of years,” in order to NOT draw attention to the obvious, which was the basis for the famous Blago telephone screamfest: “this is f*(&ing GOLD!”

Would they be instructed not to ask for papers?

  • sowsear

Well, BO could be caught doing just about anything and they would cover for him. Diogenes still looking for an honest man…

Thank you Cindy. Lovely comment appreciated. No, just a hobby that I love. I have been approached to do other blogs and a local paper, but my heart remains with No Quarter.

And whether you agree with this blog’s purpose/intent, here is an article reminding us of the ayers/obama connections — the ones obama said never existed.

More political intrigue. We’ll all stay tuned to see how this one plays out. I thought the Blogd performed like a simple incompetent on The Apprentice and deserved to be fired. Will he perform any better at a trial?

  • Rich

Nice likeness. One of the best I have seen.
The answer to your question is NO, unless the story somehow becomes about them having some kind of sex together. Outside of sex issues we forgive our politicians almost everything, especially if we liked them in the first place.

Why give him any attention. He is a nothing and a coward and deserves nothing. Picture him standing on atage with no one in the seats. For too long he has been allowed to prance and preen making himself into something he is not, impressing only the young who do not remember his crimes.
Any type of protest gives him the attention he craves. Make him understand what a total nothing he really is.

Sad to say it, but I think you’re right.

Your rendering of B would look great on a bobblehead.

  • TeakWoodKite

LOL, no I pay both him and Pat a compliment….HUH? Which McCarthy?

But your right, even the dummy knows knows better than BO…and he doesn’t need TOTUS.
I actually can’t wait to see the first Vintriloquist “dummy” of BO….’cause at least I will discove,r finall,y who really IS doing the talking.

Se una bugia suonava come un violino, anche uno Stradivari sarebbe verdi di invidia, rispetto a Obama
