Democratic vice-presidential candidate Joe Biden was quoted Monday as telling senior Israeli officials behind closed doors that the Jewish state will have to reconcile itself to a nuclear Iran.

In the unsourced report, Army Radio also quoted Biden as saying that he opposed “opening a additional military and diplomatic front.”

Biden, chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee, has long been considered strongly pro-Israel. His nomination as Barack Obama’s running mate had been expected to shore up the Democrats’ strength with U.S. Jewish voters.

Before I get to this topic, read sometime this morning what Haaretz has to say about Biden: http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1017129.html Essentially, Biden reportedly said (and this is an unsourced report, but from a reputable publication) that econ sanctions against Iran will fail, and he would not go to any further lengths against Iran.

Now to the trash. CNET, the highly regarded technology blog (it has thorough electronics reviews) sent someone to the Denver convention. Analyzing the green claims, the writer noted that the Dem VIPs arrived in big honking SUVs and limos, and the vehicles had their engines running while waiting for their passengers. He has a picture (though you cannot from a still see an engine running — however this is not a political blog but a wonk blog so I give it credibility).

But reality doesn’t always match expectations. Bikes aren’t permitted inside the convention’s security perimeter, so golf carts and other vehicles are used. The wooden card keys proved buggy, and some were replaced with more-reliable plastic. Fried mini-donuts were prominently on sale inside the Pepsi Center. Party VIPs and celebrities told their decidedly non-green town cars and GMC Yukon XL mega-SUVs–rented from limo provider A Class Above Transportation–to idle, with engines and air conditioning on, in the nearby pickup area. (What self-respecting conference-goer wants to climb into a GMC Yukon when it’s a toasty 93 degrees in the shade?)

On a somewhat related note, Dem blogger Ben Tribbett noted that when the Pledge was said at the stadium, it was largely ignored by the crowd. Tribbett is well known among Dem bloggers, and is regarded as a big political voice in northern Virginia. They could have avoided this by using striped bunting and starred flags or something other than the whole flag. I get a constant subliminal message from the Obama campaign that they are against America. One message that wasn’t so subliminal was a splash page on the BO/BS site that had the American eagle turned away, as if in retreat, the olive branches dropped, the snake dropped–there were comments on it and now it’s just a fleeting flash they haven’t totally deleted, between screens.

When you think you are attending the coronation of a rock star and ignore the fact that you are really witnessing a decidedly un-American act (the stealing of an election), you probably look on those flags as pretty decorations to be thrown in the trash when they’ve served their purpose.

These are not the people I want to see select our next President.

On the foreign policy front and trash left behind—don’t you think the Putin quote that the Georgian/Russian confrontation was manufactured by the US in order to make one of the candidates look good kind of interesting because it was clearly aimed at the idea it made McCain look good. I thought that was a real left-handed compliment to McCain and still wonder what Putin is up to. But it also speaks to the combined international experience of Obama and Biden. I am sure Biden is selected to add that international experience to the ticket. The only VP choice I can think of that relies on the VP choice to bolster the candidate’s international experience is Bush II: Bush II and Obama—so many scary parallels.

I read somewhere that immediately after Dean lost his bid for the presidency that this group had a long term plan to change this country. Their first act was to see that Howard Dean was made head of the DNC. As some one who has been to many pro troop rallies(something they call “pro war rallies), I usually bring my own flag, but it always comes home with me. If those flags meant so much to the people in Denver, why couldn’t they take the flags home as a sentimental reminder of the history making event( and I mean that with respect ) that they had just been a part of?

Not only that but then businesses shouldn’t be allowed to sell items that show the flag because they would be profiting from a public resource! Please show me the pictures or at least the story making the accusation. That redstate picture has no trash in it, the flags are neatly rolled and show no evidence that there was ever trash with them. No stains, no dirt, none of them are even crumpled.

C’mon guys. I don’t like Obama anymore than the next person, but McCain is trying to capitalize on a non-issue. It was wasteful for these things to be thrown out, but it’s a total stretch to make it about patriotism.

These are not real flags. They are miniature replicas. They do not fall under the rules for disposing of flags. And by the way, someone who has been in the military should know this.

People have flag facsimiles on many things – handkerchiefs, underwear, shirts. Shall they burn those, too? These miniatures are not real flags. Don’t be a reactionary – it reflects poorly on us all.

The sad thing about this story is that it is being changed and edited as the days go by. The Denver Post has done a complete white wash of their earlyier article. The dumpster sized bins of flags sat on the loading dock for a week, NO ONE ever came or called to claim the flags. HOWEVER I do not beleive they were meant for the trash. I feel it was an over site and ya know some one was fired over this blunder.

Most of those bills were writtten by other senators. Emil Jones took them from them, and gave them to Obama to sign, even though he did not work on them. You’ll find more facts if you read more, and from a wider varity of sources.
