Gustav

Gustav is bearing down on the Gulf Coast, looking pretty much like Katrina. Gustav has already sent over a million people fleeing from New Orleans under a mandatory evacuation yesterday by Mayor Ray Nagin. And, it has only been three years since Katrina hit the Mississippi, Alabama, and Louisiana coasta, with Mississippi and Louisiana bearing the brunt of it. Many folks displaced by Katrina are STILL displaced. That is to say, those areas are just really getting back to some semblance of normalcy. Louisiana and Mississippi look to be in for hard times.

Joe Biden says we should all pray that the levees hold. Well, yes, we should. That would be good. Obama said that he hopes we have learned our lesson from Katrina, and doesn’t want us to repeat the mistakes made during that massive hurricane. Well, okey dokey. I hope so, too.

McCain and Palin have gone to Mississippi at the request of Governor Barbour. McCain said that should Gustav make land fall during the Republican Convention, they would suspend it. He said,

“It just wouldn’t be appropriate to have a festive occasion while a near tragedy or a terrible challenge is presented in the form of a ntural disaster.”

I agree. It would be inappropriate. So, the RNC is keeping an eye on the weather, too.

Oh, and Tropical Storm Hannah has the potential to bear down on my part of the world. These are just the kinds of issues with which a president has to contend. Despite Don Fowler saying that Gustav would be helping the Democrats (I am not kidding – he said it), it shouldn’t help EITHER party. People’s lives and livelihoods are at stake here. Friends and family members of mine, as well as many of you, I am sure. For once, wouldn’t it be nice if dealing with an impending disaster wasn’t a partisan issue, but an AMERICAN issue?? How about we give that a try – no making hay off of this potential disaster. Just address it as Americans, with compassion, and a desire to help. Let’s just give that a shot, Don, Joe, Barack, John, and Sarah. Don’t worry about the photo op (talking to YOU, Barack), worry about the people, their pets, their homes, their jobs. Let’s worry about the human element, and the affect on our environment (again, one of the reasons Louisiana gets hit so hard is that it’s coastal wetlands are largely dead due to human shortsightedness. Without the wetlands to act as a buffer, the hurricane just slams into the coast, with a clear path.).

This is more important than any political campaign. People first, country first, then you can worry about your campaigns later.

I still can’t believe that Fowler and Moore wished for this Hurricane to disrupt the Republican convention.

Gustav will have the effect of showing the Republicans in action learning from the mistakes of the past and earning a little redemption along the way.

McCain calls it a “call to action”

    Now that’s what I call a convention!

“For once, wouldn’t it be nice if dealing with an impending disaster wasn’t a partisan issue… no making hay off of this potential disaster.”

Ummm… is that why Gov. Haley Barbour, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, invited McCain and Palin to Mississippi?

Cuba: Gustav is worst storm to hit the island in 50 years

In the storm Cuban authorities are saying caused the worst damage in 50 years, Los Palacios was the first that lay directly in the path of Hurricane Gustav.

When it made landfall Saturday evening, it was a Category 4 hurricane, with wind speeds exceeding 130 miles per hour and gusts of more than 200 mph.

“The devil came through here. It swept it completely,” said Juan Carlos Rodriguez, who works for the municipal school management office and spent the night guarding the building.

You mean like when the Focu On The Family guy, who supports your candidate, said to pray fro rain of “biblical proportions” during the Obama speach? Where McCain didn’t say anything about that?

And I am glad that you Republicans think it’s a good idea for McCain to go down there and disrupt the emergency management so he can make his acceptance speach from there.

And where was McCain during Katrina? Oh that’s right, celebrating his B-day with the President.

Obama is asking his supporters to contribute to the relief efforts. McCain is using it as an opportunity to make a political speach, just like he did today.

  • http://www.hillaryis44.org/?p=628 God Damn Michelle Obama

Is Obama in Louisiana? Is Jessie Jackson, Jr., shedding tears in New Orleans? Or did they exploit New Orleans for the African-American vote in South Carolina?

Obama does not care about New Orleans. After all, he did not attend the State of the Black Union with Tavis Smiley in New Orleans this year. Not only does Obama think African-Americans should be ignored; he is not interested in the plight of New Orleanians.

But you will vote for him nonetheless, for you are yet another low information voter who casts his ballot for pigment and not for policy.

Palin will be good and will always have a cool head during trying times like disaster, etc. Read this article about her when she had her last child!! She was in Texas – stayed and gave a speech before she flew home to Alaska to deliver her child!!! Nerves of steel PEOPLE!!!!

The Greeks have a saying: be careful what you wish for because when the gods want to punish you, they grant your wish.

Reminds me of all of you on the far left who wish for defeat in Iraq even though it will lead to genocide.

    Rev Amy,

Thank you for the post. I did my nightly peek in at the O campaign and they have an area for people to link to where they can help, with a letter by Obama, indicating they can rally all their supporters to contribute money, or go to help; and then there is the blog, about Gustav. A lot of good people praying, but a lot of people trying make out that this a a political move for Senator McCain, and some saying it is because of evangelicals praying for rain for the DNC convention, etc. etc. As well as hinting Senator McCain or any political presence would hamper rescue operations.

On the McCain site there is no link, or blog and what has been given to the news, was via staff or from Senator McCain. I believe all work is being done behind the scenes. Senator McCain was asked about it, as of course the RNC is suppose to start tomorrow, and the hurricane makes land fall at the same time. So this story made news.

It isn’t a time for one campaign to dictate to another, I bring this up because it does appear to be an attempt to tie someone’s hands from one party; I see this as maybe a thoughtless remark, but really, no matter what it is, our country must come first, our people first. I really don’t think any rescue worker or the like care what party anyone belongs to. The RNC and McCain have no control over the weather. If some want to believe this is grandstanding for McCain, they will never see that he is working to be respectful and to help as best as possible.

I like to think Obama is as well trying to do the right thing. One thing for sure; I think many of us have “Katrina Guilt”, not about race, but wishing and trying and hoping we could have or should have done more. No one wants a tragedy to happen.

-The O blog tried to stay on topic, but to no avail; and this is (again my apologies because it is ugly)a sample of the supporters on the blog.Kudos to the supporters who did try to keep the blog where it was suppose to be going.-

McCain is again dominating the news cycle and riding Hurricane Gustav coverage. How can we stop them from capitalizing on this? Now McCain is saying he wants to change the tone of the convention from a celebratory one to a “call to action” to raise money/assistance to hurricane victims. How can we get Obama in the news cycle?

The GOP are doing what they should be doing. Their efforts here don’t erase Katrina from people’s minds. McCain is trying to policize this while Obama is taking the appropriate approach. He has already asked us to donate and after the storm passes go volunteer if we can. He is on the campaign trail. This was supposed to be the Republicans week anyway just like we had our week last week. Obama should never try to “captalize” on a catastrophic hurricane IMHO.

I have every confidence that the Republican governors of the gulf coast state will perform very well in this potential natural disaster. I am very happy the people of Lousiana recognize it was their Democrat governor and mayor who was unprepared for the job. And the governor of Mississipi is doing wonders. That’s why the people of LA do not blame Bush for all what happened with Katrina. More republcians were elected into office than previous years in the State of LA post Katrina

Perhaps the people of Michigan should understand if they get rid of that democrat governor, their state may come out of that one state recession. Lets go Republican Governors and show them how to do this. Very happy that Bobby Jindahl is the Governor in LA.

Why should Obama be there? Because being in places like this for disasters is part of the job of being President. Or at the very least showing concern for American citizens no matter their social standing or skin color.

  • Firefly

Got this from By the Fault, who got it from a commenter at TalkLeft – but, as they say, this is great stuff – why the Sarah Palin pick is brilliant:

1– Palin re-opens the experience issue in a new way that lets McCain bring back an issue that was getting tired. VP vs. Prez is a new spin on this, and makes it look like the Democratic ticket is backwards, just like Dukakis/Bentson seemed to many.

2– Her Western credentials and charm plunges a dagger into the heart of Obama’s Western strategy. A caribou shooting, moose-eating, snowmachine riding, government reforming, spouse of a Native, governor from a western state may suddenly be the much more interesting candidate to western voters than the urbane urban black guy. If Obama can’t win Ohio, he has to win in the West. This pick makes that much harder, IMO.

3– She re-starts the Obama is a sexist meme and heats up the Hillary voters who haven’t reconciled to Obama and are still steamed at MSM misogyny and DNC shenanigans. The attacks on a woman VP candidate who has as much experience as many of the MSM “accepted” male candidates for both VP and Prez, is a potent new brew that may drive many women to vote for Palin (and incidently McCain) no matter her view on the issues.

4– She gives new life to the Obama is an elitist who can’t get votes from small-town and middle America meme. The Obama supporters and pundits just haven’t been able to stop themselves from attacking Palin’s lack of an Ivy League education, her supposed lack of understanding of urban issues, and the fact that Alaska is a small, rural state. Those “bitter” voters are still out there, particularly in southern Ohio and the middle of Pennsylvania, places that Obama must win. The fact that Palin is a past union member, and her spouse is a current union member, could hurt Obama too.

5– She takes away the race card. She is the first candidate in an interracial marriage on any major party’s ticket. Hard to scream racist effectively at voters undeterred by that.

6– Todd Palin as the macho Irondog champion, “First Dude” and stay-at-home “Mr. Mom,” and Sarah Barracuda as the hard-charging career woman and hockey-mom, may well be very attractive for suburban Independent women.

7– She is the ultimate “change” candidate. Unlike Obama, she actually has done what he preaches — changed an entire political environment (albeit in small state Alaska) by reaching across party lines.

8– She is an interesting character. Doubt how important that is? Just check out the reactions to the speech Gov. Schweitzer gave at the Democratic Convention. People like characters with interesting stories and styles. Palin certainly has that.

9– She has totally thrown the Obama camp on how to respond, and knocked his “greatest speech evah” off the discussion track.

I don’t believe in that many accidents. Palin has been on McCain’s list since the start. When Obama failed to pick Hillary as his VP but picked Biden instead, he opened the door for Sarah Palin to walk through, and allowed McCain the chance to reclaim his mantle as a maverick and true agent of change. We’ll see how it plays out in the end, but my guess is that the McCain/Palin ticket will turn out to be the ultimate proof that Obama’s refusal to pick Hillary as his VP will be the bad judgment that costs the Democrats this election.

As far as palin and creationism, think cheney, using the Vice-Presidency to fit his agenda. NO.

McCain has experience with crises, whereas Obama has no experience. Palin also manages a National Guard, whereas Obama and Biden are useless Senators.

You know this whole disaster might actually highlight the changes the government has made since Katrina.

I’m listening to Bobby Jindal right now. He is plenty impressive with ample facts and figures, calls for additional evacuations for anyone who wants/needs it. It was Jindal [a Republican, btw] who called out the National Guard in advance. They’ve doubled up the police presence, too; had the foresight to address resident’s concern for their animals; provided loads of buses, airflights and traffic info.

If the organization and understructure on emergency control pans out as well as it looks right now on the ground, this will not hurt the Republicans. The folks in Louisiana look mighty professional this time round. We should all pray those levees hold and that the Corp of Engineers has done what it was suppose to do. I know they’re not done with the redesign. I just hope what they have completed is enough.

Instead of capitalizing on this for his own gain (like OBAMA is trying to do), McCain is suspending his own “party” (which doesn’t include a greek fortress for his own amusement) and will use the time that was meant for his own acceptance and convention to worry about the PEOPLE who are affected by Gustav.
This speaks of CHARACTER, of which obama has none.
MLK’s dream was that people be judged not by the color of their skin but the content of their CHARACTER. It looks like MLK would be voting for McCain over obama because the ONLY thing obama has going for him is the COLOR OF HIS SKIN…NOTHING else, NOTHING.

McCain’s VP has more experience and character than obama has and SHE is only up for VICE PRESIDENT, not POTUS. Of course obama wants to be compared to her, he’s accustomed to abusing and mistreating women, it’s men that he has a hard time competing with. MJ,

I think we should cut Michelle some slack. In fact, she is a role model for many PUMAs. Speaking as a high profile Democrat, she said that Democrats need not vote for the party’s presidential candidate, if they do not like the choice. There is no other rational way to interpret her comment that she’d have to think about voting for Hillary, if Hillary was the nominee.

Michelle gave PUMAs a “get-out-of-jail-free” card. If she is free to not vote for the Democratic presidential candidate, then all Democrats are free to do the same. In fact, unless Obama supporters state that she is wrong to think that way, they are in no position to criticize the rank-and-file Democrats for simply doing what Michelle herself would do.

McCain also asked for his supporters to donate to the disaster funds – I saw it with my very own eyes on Fox. It was when he was telling people that political stuff needed to be put aside and everyone had to be acting like Americans.

As far as where he was last time – that was last time. It does seem that people do learn from past mistakes – that’s what mistakes are for.

It really irks me when posters like yourself have to make this political when the candidates do seem to be working towards the idea that this is about those in harm’s way and not about them.

  • McHope

And may we also suggest if Obama interupts McCain’s newly planned ‘convention’ time that would be ‘political malpractice’, right?

The fact that McCain has no intention of celebrating while Americans are faced with a natural disaster while he appeals to all Republicans and Democrats to behave as Americans to help those affected by this storm shows leadership and compassion.

“And I am glad that you Republicans think it’s a good idea for McCain to go down there and disrupt the emergency management so he can make his acceptance speach from there.”

That’s exactly what he should do. It would not be a disruption- he doesn’t travel with a rock group posse. It would be a show of support.

Peggy Sue, I was watching the same thing, and relieved to see much more organization and assistance, and planning, plus surprised to hear they admit there will be “topping off” at the levees, as in a 3 to 4 ft wash over. Much better to speak the truth and let people work with that. I hope the work on the levees hold, there is concern it will hit the levees on the east end instead.
I’m sure there will be some mistakes, however so far it appears, sad lessons have been learned; now we really do have to pray that those levees hold, and that most of the people left.

I will just have to assume you’re willfully ignorant.

As mentioned on another thread last night, here’s her actual position:

Teach both. You know, don’t be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important and it’s so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both. And, you know, I say this, too, as the daughter of a science teacher. Growing up with being so privileged and blessed to be given a lot of information on, on both sides of the subject — creationism and evolution. It’s been a healthy foundation for me. But don’t be afraid of information and let kids debate both sides.

    FF,

You have an odd sense of the meaning of the term “universal.” You say that the she is universally ridiculed in the rest of the world. But the truth and Obamatruth are two different things. Since Palin’s candidacy was announced some media commentators have said it was good and others have said it was bad. He can only go so far in pandering to people using Dr. King’s name…who would roll over in his grave at this nomination. Color of their character, indeed. In fact, I think this would not have happened had he been alive. We might have had a minority race President such as Colin Powell. He would not have wanted an unqualified President to sully the influence of the movement.

I just insulted myself by going to thi site and listening to this video by P Diddy Combs. He has nerves asking McCain would he let Palin keep his kids. Who keeps Combs 4 or 5 kids–their mothers–since he has never committed to marrying or living with any of them on a permanent basis? He should get his own house in order before speaking out. And for his information, there are Blacks in Alaska. Palin is coming over to the mainland just like Obama coming over from Hawaii and being proud of it. Sounds like Sarah’s parents moved to Alaska from the western part of our country like Obama’s grandparents/mother moved him over to Hawaii after traveling to Indonesia for a while.

Obambi tiny convention lead shrinking AGAIN

    Sunday, August 31, 2008

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday—the day before the Republican National Convention is scheduled to begin—shows Barack Obama ahead of John McCain by three percentage points both with and without leaners. That’s exactly the same edge Obama enjoyed a week ago on the eve of the Democratic National Convention.

This is the last day to save with summer rates for Rasmussen Reports Premium Memberships. Learn More.

Today’s numbers show a one-point improvement for McCain, but Obama still leads 47% to 44%. When “leaners” are included, it’s Obama 49%, McCain 46% (see recent daily results). Obama is now viewed favorably by 57% of the nation’s voters, McCain by 56%.

There have been significant changes in perception of John McCain in the two days of polling since he named Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate. Since then, 49% of Republicans voice a Very Favorable opinion of McCain. That’s up six percentage points from 43% just before the announcement. Also, 64% of unaffiliated voters now give positive reviews to McCain, up ten points since naming his running mate.

There has been little change in perceptions of Obama since his Thursday night speech and the Palin announcement (see trends and other recent demographic observations).

Palin herself made a good first impression and is now viewed favorably by 53% of voters nationwide. Her counterpart, Joe Biden, is viewed favorably by 48%. While Palin has made a good first impression, the more significant numbers will come a week from now after the nation has a chance to learn more about her.

Asked by the Anchorage Daily News whether she believed in evolution, Palin declined to answer, but said that “I don’t think there should be a prohibition against debate if it comes up in class.”

“I’m not going to pretend I know how all this came to be,” she said.

I haven’t been able to find anything that definitely says that she believes creationism.

    MLK was Republican?
I didn’t know that. Thanks for the info.
He’d DEFINITELY be against this little POS who is using his skin color to try to shame Americans into making him POTUS. He’d be particularly ashamed that the little POS invokes his name while shaming everything the man stood for. Remember, it’s not based on the color of your skin, but the content of your character. obi’s character is SERIOUSLY wanting. He’s a shame to his own race (the HUMAN race that is, because that’s the ONLY race we have)

  • McKatmoon

It all comes down to integrity, character and honesty and self respect for me. Besides reading every bill that was touched vetoed, forgotten, or passed, committee involvement, and associations(to a point), that’s my needs to pass with me to get me to hire(vote) a candidate. This is a job interview, and the American Ppeople are the employers.
Watch how a candidate treats their family, current(wives, husbands, children..)and how they treat their parents. It’s a blind date for all of us. A very smart grandmother told me to also apply the 3 day rule.. watch and listen did a story change after 3 days? Three weeks? Three months? Someone who lies cannot remember the truth, so it is reinvented in these type of time frames. If a person is willing to outright lie without a blink, they will also continue down that road of cheating stealing, etc. Because it takes a lie to deliver a person to act again only in self interest and becomes easier the more often it is done.
Finally, watch how that person treats themselves. Do they own who they are? None of us are perfect, we all have flaws, but do they admit them? Do they correct them? Do they learn from them?

    yes, notice the quotes.

Their point being that the hurricane is payback to the Republicans for (I think it was Dobson?) who said the evangelicals could pray for rain during the Thursday outdoor extravaganza. That didn’t happen so God was dishing out karma to the Republicans with Gustav (highlighting, I suppose the mess of Katrina).

The wonderful thing is though that it may turn all of that around in the long run. No, I don’t believe the God is on our side silliness.

  • McHope

  • http://purplechiten.wordpress.com Chiten

YOU mike s, are a DISPICABLE human being. HOW DARE YOU bring up “retard vote” taking a jab at an innocent child who has a horrible disease. That’s the lowest of the low and beyond any mysogonistic or racist crap you spew. You do NOT attack innocent children and you do NOT attack the handicapped. You are a disgusting, miserable, idiotic POS and God will deal with your pathetic ass.
If you are an example of the “new democratic party”, count me out because I want no part of it. I had decided not to change my party from democrat to independent or republican but I may very well have to rethink that position. I want nothing to do with such hate filled, nasty, underhanded, pathetic excuses for human beings who would attack a handicapped child, calling him a “retard” for political gain. There are NO TRUE AMERICANS out there who would support this kind of attack and you have lost any credibility that you could ever possibly have had (which wasn’t much to begin with). You disgust me on every level of my being. God deals with people like you and it will be returned to you tenfold. I have no mercy in my heart for someone with a soul as black as yours.

It really stinks because I really liked Michael Moore. I can’t believe he’s falling for this ignorance of “hope and change” that obi is pushing. I’m really disappointed in him.
I held him in high esteem, but if he supports obi, then I was very wrong about his intentions and his opinions. He has lost a loyal fan with this choice of following the Obi-wanna-be

  • sharaz

It is sad how the people in his district were taken in.
They were just pawns to advance his ambition.

Oops – this was suppsoed to be way up-thread in response to UBM. But heck yeah – Obama should see what it is REALLY like to be a public servant instead of claiming to be from his safe tower (like Michaelle and her $300,000+ Public Servant salary – hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!). But he won’t.

McCain is really showing how prepared he really IS for this position. Obama? Not so much (neve rdid, for that matter).

Still, makes sense Barbour would contact a governor with whom he has already worked and KNOWS to be a dedicated public servant, as someone else mentioned…

  • bemused

If providence is favoring anyone, I’d say it’s McCain. He gets to look responsive, caring, and presidential. Obama gets to look lame. Bush and Cheney are nowhere near to remind anyone of Katrina. Many people have been sent off, it sounds like, so no last minute coup and less convention expense. No snide comparisons later from the bots about how the two conventions looked, because of the circumstances. It’s like a 3 am call that McCain has already answered by 1.

  • Firefly

Cool – this is a great place to post all the vulgar crap from the big orange and all the other misogynistic hate sites.

if only Dems had the balls to call off their coronation and do a real roll call.

mccain lives in the moment – he’s been there.

i’m deeply impressed with both of these decisions – first, Palin and now he’s curtailing the convention and going down to the Gulf.

  • NoBAma

Stop attacking Sarah Palin, fools. You know nothing about her. She is not trying to legislate her beliefs from what I have read. She signed into law partner benefits for gays in her state. She is against gay marriage but she supported benefits for gay state employees.
In the meantime Obama volunteered his 2 million donors to go work down in LA after Gustav hits. I hope the donors realize that Obama is their master now and can send them to volunteer for disasters and off to tribal wars if he wants to.

I agree and that’s why I’m voting for a Republican for the first time since 1976. I will not rejoin the party until Howard and Donna are removed and the DNC reconstituted. The blame lies squarely on them–they shot themselves, and us by proxy, in the foot.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

Jimbo, you are a small penised male threatened by a strong female. Show me not only where she says she is a creationist AND if or when it has influenced her leadership. Just like I supported the only Muslem ever elected to the House not to take the oath of office on the bible but his koran because I support religious freedom. I will support Sarah’s choice of religion as well as yours. I myself am a non practising Catholic but won’t push my beliefs on you. What part of the constitution do you not get?

MG — I’m sure McCain planned for the Hurricane to hit so they could cancel the Republican Convention–you ridiculous fool. If you notice you don’t see John McCain 24/7 like you see Obama–always in front of the public and never saying anything that doesn’t relate to himself

    He is parroting Clinton supporters.
We coined word “echo chamber” because we were appalled at how Obama operatives had taken over the democratic blogs.
For 6 months Daily Kos, Democratic Underground and others were echo chambers of hell, nothing but shrill gender bashing, Clinton hating and Obama worship. Creepy stuff.
So now that we have a POV that opposes Obama, and he’s trying to say that that’s an echo chamber.
No, just because we realize Obama stinks does not mean we are an echo chamber.
And if you don’t like it here, why do you hang out so much?

  • Mr. Natural

Obama doesn’t really want to BE President. He just wants to play one on TV and pose for his adoring throngs.

Plus he’s got that chairmanship of the Banking Committee to hold down. It’s a tough life filled with imaginary jobs.

McCain is acting, um, PRESIDENTIAL. He’s making mature, responsible decisions.

We just recently proved that these conventions are a BIG waste of contributors’ money and time, though while briefly helping a local economy provide color-coordinated food.

I have never watched a republican convention and did not plan on watching this one…unless they turn the entire schedule on its ear and make it a Gustav and Hannah relief call center. An art imitates life convention. A political show becomes real-life convention.

This would be a first, and as McCain is a no-nonsense reformer, this might just be his first test before the GE. He didn’t want Bush there anyway. If the Republican Party wants to revive itself, they should jump on this, not for convenience or appearance, but because of real need and usefullness for having spent all of our treasure over the last 8 years. It could be a demonstration of a return to fiscal responsibility. I, for one, would watch and donate to the Gustav relief fund during this venue. How Presidential, indeed!

Yesterday we posted a list of new domains registered in anticipation of hurricane Gustav hitting the US gulf coast. In the past 24 hours even more domains were registered. Most of these sites are parked domains and many of them are for sale. They will be worth monitoring, particularly if “donate here” messages appear. Please make sure that your employees or customers verify any site that asks for donations to ensure that it is legitimate. If you have any doubts, please visit the Better Business Bureau’s web site.

Isn’t it curious that the MSM repeatedly tells us that Obama voters are “intelligent, college educated(ie:elitists)and well informed”?

Yet They can’t spell worth a damn and cannot string a coherent thought into a sentence.

    It’s “speech”, not “speach”.

    DOH!

“And I am glad that you Republicans think it’s a good idea for McCain to go down there and disrupt the emergency management so he can make his acceptance speach from there”.

The Governor asked him to come down there today. He’s not making his acceptance speech from there as you say.

Your candidate didn’t do anything until he, OMG, found out that McCain had already asked for donations to be made to the Red Cross.

    God, you such dweb.

  • karen for Clinton (sigh, McPalin now)

I just did a run through of several democratic blogs and there is zero credibility given to “kos” – every body is talking about how ludicrous they are.

Also came across positive articles on Sarah and how she has changed the face of the election and limited barky to biting her at his own risk.

We said all along the primary is not the general and we knew they had no plan for the general. They were burning all their bridges as they marched across the dying democratic party.

Their entire campaign one tool in the tool-box tactic was to destroy Hillary with propaganda.

CDS is all their little brains could comprehend.

PDS is a joke, there is no 35 year smear campaign history to dig up against Sarah.

Ob, there is enough wrong with him to make the MSM look like they were twiddling and sucking their thumbs for over a year. John Edwards was nothing compared to them ignoring barky’s skeletons.

  • karen for Clinton (sigh, McPalin now)

Donate to local groups you know who are sending rescue workers. There are always crews from Fire companies, search and rescue dogs, church groups, electric power companies, even supermarkets sending water, canned goods and etc.

My town sent people there and gathering supplies to send in bulk, three years ago.

American Red Cross helped me once after a fire.

Fowler should be fired. His insensitive remarks reveal a huge deficit in his character, and not firing him shows a lack of leadership in the Obama camp.

  • John Larson

Haha. What’s interesting is the mayor is definitely not going to invite Obama! Not after Obama stood him up on that black conference only Hillary attended, he said “how unfortunate” to the press, and then Obama’s goons found his relatives in Indiana and threatened their lives.

Does it really surprise d that Obama is always late on making a statement that would matter, too much koolaid today, since he felt he had to run to the podium after McCain took charge and made his statment on Gustav, i can hear it now,, why cant i ever get the statement first, that big meanie McCain looking more presidential and showing his true heart on what matters, poor O too locked up on being the man, McCain 2008 i own my vote and i will not be a fall in line vote, Nobama ever.

  • No Mo, Bo or Stumblin Jo

If Gustav hit during the Democratic national convention, do you think Obama would have canceled his big speech at the Temple of Zeus? (Somehow I think he would have managed to work it in.)

Of course McCain would have to make a statement about changes in the schedule of the convention! (Of course Obama had to find a camera.)

I hope that Gustav lands with a whimper and Obama does too.

Too bad the American public won’t have the opportunity to hear more about Obama from the convention floor–the MSM won’t do it.

No Mo, Bo or Stumblin Jo.

  • kjanlady

As a lifetime resident of Louisiana and currently living in a town facing 15″ rain and 75mph winds in the next 8 hours, I can tell you I appreciate McCain’s show of empathy and concern. He went to Jackson Mississippi at the invitation of the Gov and if you had any knowledge of geography you would realize this is some 200 miles from the coastal area. Also he came on Saturday and left more than 48 hours prior to landfall so that his presence would not impede the work. Where is Obama? On the campaign trail trying to get his WEAK message across. Do you think he would have cancelled the DNC if the situation were reversed??? No way. His message of concern was late (Reactionary to McCain’s stong show of support)and WEAK. Most of the people in this area would prefer he not come down and especially not bring his old attack dog Biden. We are proud of our young, governor of Indian descent who is a reformer like McCain and Palin; and would not have him subjected to Biden’s racist rhetoric. The failures of Katrina were mostly caused by the liberal LA governor and liberal mayor of NO. No plan, no judgement, blame your failure of someone else liberal politicians. As for the comments of Fowler about the RNC, a little rain on Obama’s coronation is a lot different than than a major natural disaster than could get a lot of good AMERICANS killed. Yes WE Will.

  • jjjerry

I hope the Gustav drowns all the Republicans at their cornvention or wherever. That would help America because then everyone would feel sorry for the poor Republicans and vote for another Republican president. Semper fi.
