Oh God!!

If you thought that Republicans had a monopoly on tasteless, stupid comments invoking God as an excuse for human tragedy, meet the so-called Democratic progressives. Don Fowler and Michael Moore are vying for the Pat Robertson award for the idiotic introduction of theology to assign blame for natural and man-made disasters. Do you remember the Pat and Jerry show (You know, Robertson and Falwell) after the attacks on 9-11:

JERRY FALWELL: And I agree totally with you that the Lord has protected us so wonderfully these 225 years. And since 1812, this is the first time that we’ve been attacked on our soil and by far the worst results. And I fear, as Donald Rumsfeld, the Secretary of Defense, said yesterday, that this is only the beginning. And with biological warfare available to these monsters — the Husseins, the Bin Ladens, the Arafats — what we saw on Tuesday, as terrible as it is, could be miniscule if, in fact — if, in fact — God continues to lift the curtain and allow the enemies of America to give us probably what we deserve.

PAT ROBERTSON: Jerry, that’s my feeling. I think we’ve just seen the antechamber to terror. We haven’t even begun to see what they can do to the major population.

JERRY FALWELL: The ACLU’s got to take a lot of blame for this.

PAT ROBERTSON: Well yes.

And do you remember the deserved criticism heaped on those two sanctimonious clowns for their idiotic remarks? Good. So answer me this. Why is it wrong for conservative Republicans to blame homosexuals for 9-11 but it is okay for prominent Democrats, so-called progressives, to say God is punishing Republicans when an impending Category 4 hurricane hits New Orleans. Hypocrisy anyone?

Let’s start with Michael Moore appearing on Keith Olbermann:

“I was just thinking, this Gustav is proof that there is a God in Heaven.” Moore said with a chuckle in a televised interview.

“That it would actually be on its way to New Orleans for Day one of the Republican convention up in the twin cities at the top of the Mississippi River,” Moore said, in an interview with MSMBC’s Keith Olbermann, on Countdown.

Classy Michael, classy. What next? You going to become an expert commentator on personal fitness and grooming?

But it doesn’t stop with Moore. Did you catch Don Fowler, who is not normally known as a Democratic bomb thrower. He’s sitting on a plane unaware that someone behind him is recording his comments on Hurricane Gustav:

So let’s get this straight. Only Democratic progressives are entitled to simultaneously condemn the influence of the religious right in the Republican party while indulging in the same kind of mumbo, jumbo superstitious religious bullshit when it suits their purpose?

And many of these same Democrats want to attack Sarah Palin for being a conservative religious figure (but so far has shown no inclination to impose her personal beliefs on the people of Alaska) but reserve for themselves the luxury of assigning God’s wrath to Republicans.

Curse them all. What happens when hurricane Gustav hits land is not an act of God. It is a natural act that will give human beings a chance to demonstrate whether or not they learned a damn thing from hurricane Katrina. You know what is likely to happen? With a Republican governor in place and a re-energized Department of Homeland Security, also under the control of Republicans, there will be praise for the preparation and response to this impending disaster. So instead of the hapless Republican officials (e.g. Mike “Heck-of-a-job” Brown) doing nothing while people died at the New Orleans’ Convention Center, the media will be plastered with images of officials leading troops and vehicles to the rescue. What could have been a disaster for Republicans may turn out to be their Rudy Guiliani finest moment.

And if that happens, does that mean “God loves Republicans?” I am both amused and puzzled by our ability as Americans to invoke God’s blessings and cursings as an excuse or justification for certain developments (e.g., you know, God wanted the Giants and not the Patriots to win the Super Bowl) while decrying those crazy Muslims who believe that Allah is somehow guiding and directing events in their lives.

How about this as a novel idea? Let’s just keep God out of it.

  • http://hillaryorbust.blogspot.com Hillary or Bust

Well, perhaps God works in mysterious ways, because I just saw on the news that Bush and Cheney will not appear at the convention due to the hurricane. And that is the BEST thing to happen to McCain/Palin by far!

  • helen

Boy the really care for this country don’t they?
There is no common decency left in the faux new democratic party.
Those sickos need to crash and burn and an new real democratic party be rebuilt out of the ashes.

  • http://inconquisitor.blogspot.com inconquisitor

Of course we have a double standard and as an independent who supports McCain, it’s easier to
see how the two parties play thier games with god and religion. My issue to watch is how much the candidate care about public service. That’s not
coming from Obama. Only sheer powerseeking, ambition,
    and Me Me Me syndrom.

  • greg Levitt

    Amen!

  • ginaswo still says no Uhhbama

It’s horrifying but I’m numb to it now I guess, the behavior of the Dem leadership throughout the primaries has innured me to this.

This campaign has I think RADICALLY altered the way people will vote in the future, at least on the Democratic side:

it has really shown me that the Democratic Party is filed with just as many loathsome people as the GOP or Indies or Libertarians or anyone else for that matter.

Well, I am 20 yrs a downticket DEM so I’m a bit late to reality but now that Ive heard the message loud and clear I am an ‘individual’ voter i.e. I will vote based on that INDIVIDUAL, their achievements, their person-’who they are as shown by their ACTIONS, not ‘just words’.

and Palin and MAC have it all over the DEM ticket on this measurement. Hillary had it too. Their LIVES as LIVED their ACTIONS as taken demonstrate a CHARACTER that I find lacking at the top of the Democratic ticket.

    MAC/PALIN 08

OY! Forgive us we know not what we do.

Proof that left and right extreme wingnuts are exactly the same peoples. Who knew?? LOL! No other explanation.

Yes lets do keep God out of it…

This is a time to pull together and help our neighbors.

I do think it is a bit sick to be laughing it up when so many people are basically running for there lives.

  • Andy

You know Fowler’s comments as a Dem. operative are despicable… Moore? He’s become completely silly: he has gone from making solid satire about Reps. serious flaws or questionable actions to making
shallow cheap shots devoid of content: what a waste…

But you know, the Dems. might be in for a surprise b/c it is being reported that because of Gustav, GW Bush and Cheney will likely NOT attend the Rep. convention.

Seems the tasteless “joke” is on Fowler&Moore after all….

  • http://www.hillaryis44.org/?p=628 God Damn Michelle Obama

Maybe Michelle Obama will ask Reverend Jeremiah “GOD DAMN AMERIKKA” Wright to shed a tear for Louisiana. And then Reverend Jeremiah “GOD DAMN AMERIKKKA” will scream, “God Damn Louisiana,” “God Damn Louisiana,” when Republicans will demonstrate that Democrats cannot handle disaster.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

We are waiting on a statement from McCain on what they will be doing to help the people in the gulf. This convention is going to be very different I think…we will see.

  • Andy

    roseeriter:

Absolutely, no difference. It’s like plus and minus infinity, you can identify a the extremes of infinite line so that it becomes a circle: alas no difference between the two. Simple fact.

    Indeed: Obama = Bush III

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

McCain and Palin went to Mississippi, where are Obama/Bidin?

  • Andy

    30yrdem-not any more:

Yes… seems it will be: see my comment above yours.

Aren’t McCain and Palin in the LA region at the moment?

  • eurogirl70

    Yeah:

Speaking of dear Barack and Michelle; did they make any charitable contributions to any Hurricane Katrina or Gulf Coast project? Yeah, that would be a big fat NO!

Did Obama show up at the State of the Black Union in New Orleans? Yeah, that would be NO! He showed up to get AA votes and once he had them he never looked back.

Did he go to MLK Jr.’s memorial service? Yeah, that would be a NO again!!

It took this incompetent Bush administration to get Big Dawg into the mix to get monies raised for Katrina relief in the first place!! But, you have Jesse Jackson Jr. III shooting is mouth off about whether Hillary Clinton ever shed a tear over Katrina.

It’s called deflection. Accuse others of doing/not doing what you have done/not done!

  • bert

Exactly, Larry. Keep God out of it.

At this point in time and based on what I have read and seen and heard on TV so far, it looks like everyone has learned from Katrina from Mayor Nagen (mandatory evacuation) to George Bush (staying engaged). Only time will tell, and we can only hope and pray that the storm loses strength before it hits New Orleans.

And based on what I have read, it also appears that the Republicans may turn this to their advantage. If the Republicans do ask for money during their convention, if McCain and Palin are able to safely spend a day in the storm area…well…..WOW!!! Not only a woman on the ticket, but McCain gets to look Presidential.

And to be non-partisan here during a crisis, even Obama has offered to tap his donor list for fund-raising or volunteers.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

Yup they did go to Mississippi this morning, I heard they will be releasing the new plan for the convention today….he chartered a plane to fly the delegates from the southern states back home….

  • JohninCA

That is the best thing that could happen to the ticket.

  • JohninCA

Even better than the current ticket: NObama/NoBush ’08.

  • roseeriter

Everything in moderation has been my personal mantra most of my life and now voting for MODERATES will be my political mantra also. This after having been a Dem my whole adult life.

This year it will be McCain/Palin. Sorry Hillary. You were my first choice but the Dems squashed that.

Obama does not measure up at all.

  • No Obama for me

Larry, these are reasons that Zogby has McCain/Palin up by 2% over Obama/Biden today and Obama has fallen in both Rasmussen and Gallup today.

I was a strong Hillary supporter but never in a million years would I vote for Obama.

I also cannot believe Don Fowler, he is a proven maggot too and showed that in the meeting when they met to decide the fate of Michigan and Florida.

  • bemused

People would like to believe G-d is on their side. They are attributing their desires and judgements to G-d instead of accepting what they are told. Isn’t this as old as the Golden Calf episode?
old joke, so old I can’t remember the original names:
After WWII, a newsman was interviewing a British General, and asked what he thought was the reason for the Allies’ eventual success:
    “We prayed,” said the General.
“Don’t you think the Germans prayed too?” asked the newsman.
“WE prayed in English!” said the General.

It’s the same thing. And when the so-called dems like BO/BS are kissing up to the evangelicals, they should put a lid on it. Oh, wait. They’d have to be consistent…

Hey Larry: How about posting the tasteless comments by the Republicans? This blog is such a disgrace. I have actually been monitoring this blog and have come to the conclusion that most of the bloggers aren’t even American. They can’t vote here because the are from the EU. Larry, you should be ashamed of taking advantage of people. Anyone that has had a friend from Europe can pick-up on the slang that is used.

  • laurie

Holy crap. I really used to think the Democrats were the good guys.

I thought I was going to just sit out this election but I’ve decided to vote Green because McKinney and Clemente are the only progressives left. We really need a third party.

  • http://hillaryorbust.blogspot.com Hillary or Bust

“it has really shown me that the Democratic Party is filed with just as many loathsome people as the GOP or Indies or Libertarians or anyone else for that matter.”

100% agree. I will tear up my Democratic registration card after this election (since I want to show that I am a Democrat voting for McCain). After this election, I will be a Democrat no more. I will vote on the person, not on wedge issues such as abortion or gay marriage.

  • Lucinda

Speaking as a Christian person, I think that anyone who would delight in another person’s tragedy, thinking of it as a benefit to their own self-interest or the interest of a particular political party, is certainly acting contrary to the teachings of Jesus and wouldn’t know God if He bit them on the butt.

  • HotGreen

What is your point? Did you donate?

The bigger issue here is the way Katrina was handled. There wouldn’t have been such a disgrace if President Bush would have done his job. To point this catastrofe @ Barack Obama is ridiculous. He wasn’t the president. We need to more proactive instead of reactive… Ergo the donations. :)

  • Dawnelle Leona Del Puma

Excellent GINA I feel the same way. I hope nothing happens or comes out that makes me get nauseous over this. I want to be OK with this choice. SO far so good. But you are perfectly okay with a neophyte for President, so what does that say about you? Guess you’re the idiot, ee.

Your reply was just as stupid as Larry! Talking points… I think not. This is coming from a Valedictorian and a thinker… not someone who is actually paid to do the things you guys are doing on this site.

Simply amazing. I just wonder how the people that post the threads daily can come up with 10 to 12 topics a day. This is unrealistic. I could understand if there was some breaking news every once and a while, but this is getting to be a bit ridiculous.

  • JM08

Ok I know I come on here every couple days ranting about how the kooks on kos have sunk to a new level of sleaziness, but really this takes the cake …

In my opinion the typical profile of a kos poster is probably some young to middle age guy who is still living in him mommys basement, masturbating at night to the thought of Larry Sinclair and the messiah fooling around in the back of a limo, but really cmon these latest comments are way over the top …

They say the fact that a fringe republican figure joked about praying for some harmless rain to fall on BO, after he changed his venue for his acceptance speech from the pepsi center to a football stadium with a greek temple built by Brittany Spears production guy .. They use that to justify Michael Moore joking about a Catgory 5 HURRICANE that is going to wipe out a city during the Repub convention …

  • Dawnelle Leona Del Puma

well the fact BUSH frigged up so BAD (and his inner cabal) that it’s only natural it would make all republicans that didn’t speak up or complain look complicit!

Yeah we people that post on NO QUARTER are not american, unlike all the “proud americans” on daily kos who are supporting “BARAK HUSSEIN OBAMA”… MUSLIM BABY KILLER WHO WENT TOP A CHURCH FOR 20 YEARS THAT PREACHED ABOUT GOD DAMN AMERICA, AND IS MARRIED TO A WOMAN WHO IS PROUD OF HER COUNTRY FOR THE FIRST TIME. We will loet the american people decide whos is more american , McCain who sat for 5 years in a POW camp, because he did not want to leave early because he did not think it was fair to the other american soldiers, or barak hussein obama who was a registered muslim in school, and his spiritual advisor is rev wright, and whos good buddy is mr unrepentent terrorist william ayers. If the kool aid drinking bots want to make this election about who is more AMERICAN, than I am going to go put every cent i have on intrade predicting McCain will win !!!!

  • Athena-NoBama

Did I just hear that Obama has contacted all the Democratic governors to assist New Orleans if they are hit hard by Gustav?

  • Ferdberfle

If he did, he’s a day late and a lot of dollars short. He has never had an idea that he hasn’t stolen from someone else.

  • eurogirl70

Actually I did donate, both time and money. My point was in reference to the actions taken by Democratic leadership thi primary season. Thanks for stating the obvious that Obama was not the president during Katrina. However, if Democrat’s are going to claim that they have the moral highground on these issues, then they better start giving more than “lip service” to these issues, which is all that Obama does. Don’t tell others what to do if you haven’t been putting into practice your own recommendations.

What has the Democratic Congress done to assist in Gulf Coast recovery? I blame the Republican’s most of all, but have we been proactive? The answer would be no!!

He talks about the plight of the poor in Chicago and lets his constituents freeze in the winter.

His wife tells young people in middle America to eschew going corporate like herself.

He talks of getting lobbyists out of politics and swears he doesn’t take their money when his biggest donars are from Wall Street, Hedge Funds, and the telecom industry.

Don’t tell me that this has nothing to do with Obama now. Jesse Jackson Jr. III is his Goddamn campaign chair!

Sorry if you don’t understand the point I am trying to make. Bush fucked up…However, that being said the Democratic Party, with Obama as its’ nominee are using it for backdrop/photo op purposes as well!

How can we as a party claim to have the moral highground on these things, when you have people like Michael Moore, Don Fowler, and Jesse Jackson Jr III doing the same thing?

  • JM08

And why does the daily kos only allow PRO MESSIAH comments. At least this site allows you trolls to have your say, unlike you kooks at Kos who dont let anybody say anything unless they worship the messiah. It sounds like the daily kos operates like some COMMUNIST website during the cold war that only allows there own propoganda to be heard. I guess the messiah is bring people together afterall. He is showing MUSLIMS how to act like COMMUNISTS.

Every last doubt or misgivings I had towards the democratic party does not top the smears in the last 48hrs against Palin. I have a relative with down syndrome and to read some of the words of Obama supporters is one feeling I do not know how to put into words.

They have literally become unhinged.I have never NEVER read so many hateful remarks directed towards a child. I am stunned. The last site I came from was stating palin had a child out of wedlock etc etc.

I am unable to support any democrats on any ballot. I am unable to even remotely support this party. They no longer have the ability to claim the whole “we need a dem” theme. This is NOT the party of the past. They have become deranged and delusional in there attempt to destroy there oppositon.

Instead of attacking her experience to do the job, they went after her family. This level of desperation defies reasoning. If someone would of told me this a year ago I would not of believed it. No woman OR man wants to see there child degraded or insulted.

  • SlowBurn

John and Sarah (of “The Terminator” movie fame)!

  • Carla Purks

I am glad to see a post on this topic. I just watched CNN where Chris Dodd, an Obama supporter who benefitted from a mortgage loan while many other in this country suffered and are suffering, blames the Republicans for the failure of Katrina. Even Wolf Blitzer and John King were taken back by his remarks and position on this topic when we know clearly this is going to be devasting for the people of Louisana. At least when Daschle spoke it was with more thoughts about Louisana with politics pushed toward the backgound.

There is a God and I do not believe he is exacting this disaster on the people of Louisana. But I always think we ought to look for the silver lining beyond the cloud and this may be it for McCain and Palin. McCain had a chance to demonstrate his foreign policy knowledge when the conflict between Georgia and Russia occurred. Now he has an opportunity to really turn his message of Service (the theme of his convention) into real action for a domestic issue here at home by asking those in attendance to donate blood, money, etc. to the people of Louisana/the Gulf. We will get a chance to watch these two individuals take their message beyond vision to action. They are already on the ground visiting in the area of the Gulf. Change you can believe and see up close!

I recall from one of the wars we had in recent years where Hollywood actually cancelled The Academy Awards show on TV–just would not have been right to have all of this glitter and glitz during a time when our soldiers were in battle and in harm’s way. That’s all I could think about last week during the Democratic Convention, especially the night of Obama’s acceptance speech. He voted against the war (although not yet in the Senate), he refused to visit the soldiers on a recent tour to that area (it would have been too disruptive), he was a community organizer for the hurting people of Chicago (yet he spent in excess of $5 million for one night at Miles high stadium in Denver–there must be some hungry/homeless people in Denver who could have benefitted from this extravagance; there are military families here at home who are struggling while their spouses are off at war), he refused to even attend the State of the Black Union with Tavis Smiley in New Orleans of all places (he had previous campaign travel plans–Hillary Clinton did too-but she flew in albeit a few minutes late), he and others delighted in the fact that his acceptance speech fell on the anniversary of Dr. King’s I Have a Dream speech (yet he created his own special day in North Dakota or somewhere on the day when others gathered in Memphis for King’s memorial on the 40th Anniversary of his death (Clinton and McCain were both there, with McCain even acknowledging in a very sincere way that he was wrong when he failed to initially vote for a King holiday–Obama has yet to apologize for anything. Now he and his surrogates want to bash McCain for not only vetting a female candidate for VP, but actually taping her for the position. Obama could have done the same thing, but oh no not the great one!) Obama is about change that promotes the great one!!

As an American who is an African-American, female and a registered Democrat who voted for Senator Clinton, this is one vote that Obama will not receive. I am rather looking forward to voting Republican at the top of the ticket as I have done in the past for some Republicans on other parts of the ticket.

I also listened to Roland Martin this morning on CNN bash McCain for selecting Palin stating that there were other Repulican women far more qualified than Palin like Dole and Huthcison. Age does not matter to me if the mind is still sharp, but he probably forgot that MSM has been bashing McCain about the age thing (in a country where age discrimination is against the law), but now Martin wants to push these ladies who are about 72 and 65, respectively. What a shame!!

McCain is really about change–he got someone outside of the Beltway. Obama got someone inside the Beltway to help him bring about CHANGE in the way it has always been done in Washington inside/out versus outside/in. This continues to be one of the most exciting and different election seasons yet.

McCain and Palin represent “Change we can believe in and change we will see.” Oh, yes we can/yes we will.

Well Larry, I just had an intriguing thought: in the old Testament it says that God made us humans after his image, right? What if we humans created God after our own image?

God is probably entirely different from what we think or dream him to be; but not being able to capture it, we just create an image and mold it according to our needs and let Him speak what suits us, turning and twisting things anew every day?

    Asian4Hillary
Asian4Hillary: What I find TOTALLY repulsive is to read a post that goes; ” I want a woman for President but not that woman,” many women use that line against Hillary and now they’re using the same line against Palin. I am 1000% positive suffragates faced the same complaint from other women when they marched and demand for women of this country THE RIGHT TO VOTE.

The reason why women in this country in spite of their rah rahs and womens lib can’t forge ahead especially in government, their WORST HINDRANCE is their OWN KIND. They’ve burned their bras to promote women’s liberation but when it comes to help their own kind move forward to break the ceiling, 50% of them are the biggest hindrance.

I might receive criticism from a lot of you but I have to say this as is, from my own observation. I notice in this country 50% of women don’t think for the “common good,” they think of theirselves first, what is best for them totally disregarding the rest even if they knew they’d eventually benefit from it in the near future. They’re too focused on NOW. They don’t understand to have a woman as VP in the Whitehouse will OPEN DOORS to other women. If you’re going to wait for another woman who is exactly LIKE YOU in everything you believe in, you’d die waiting for that to come. The first woman who cracked the good ole boys network in Wallstreet and went on top of the ladder was not caucausian, an Asian, her name was Josie Nattori. She said years ago, the biggest hindrance is always other women, they’d resent you when they see you’re working too hard to be treated in the same level as men. She cracked that ceiling in Wallstreet, many women followed her after that.

Yes! Let’s make the number of registered Dems DEcrease after their convention! I’m an Indie now, and so are a growing number of my large extended family who have always voted Democratic. (I’ll be sending emails, articles, etc. to work on the rest of my family and friends.)

What is so disturbing is that after having the disastrous GWB as Prez for 8 years, the Pod Dems are determined to one up GWB with the likes of Obama, the Neo-Liberal Dem who is ever more blatantly fascist than GWB!

COUNTRY OVER PARTY! (I think McCain’s slogan COUNTRY FIRST was inspired by the PUMAs!

NOTE: HBO is featuring this week the film INVASION (of the Body Snatchers), which is a good METAPHOR for what occurred to this country under GWB and what is occurring now with the Dem Party. A must see!

agree…I made a donation to McCain/Palin yesterday. I will do my part in volunteering, yard sign etc. to ensure this true American and his awesome VP occupy the White House in Jan. 2009. Then the Bots and Michael Moore and all the other far left wing nuts can find some other crazy mission to be on.

“Well there’s obvious differences,” Biden said, beginning to ham it up. “She’s good looking,” he said, laughing.

  • Carla Purks

I too regret what people are saying about Palin and her child. I am a former special education teacher. Downs Syndrome children often demonstrate and do far more than what we think they can do. There was a wonderful story recently on 60 Minutes showing a industry in South Carolina where a significant portion of the work force were adults with special needs and challenges–selected because they are so much more reliable than others to be there and get the job done. This is far more than what we can count on from Obama and his message of change–the great one has yet to be fully vetted. We know far more about Downs Syndrome children and adults than we know about Obama.

Yes, they are saying horrible things about Palin. I think she is sharp, gutsy and about exacting change in a way that really means change. She would not have gotten into this fray thinking that the media and others would not target her in this mean spirited way. We must pray that she remains strong and brush it off the way Hillary Clinton and other women before her have had to do for years.

John McCain and his Vice-Presidential presumptive nominee took an unscheduled trip to Pearl, Mississippi to get a briefing on plans for the arrival of Hurricane Gustav. While in Pearl, he toured the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency. He and Sarah Palin then received a closed door briefing.
After the closed door meeting, he made a brief statement. He told the press that under the circumstances there would be changes to the RNC convention in St Paul, Minnesota.
With neither President Bush nor Vice President Cheney attending the convention now, McCain said it would no longer be appropriate to hold a political celebration. Now he says, the convention should be a “call to action” and instead of thinking like Republicans, they will now act like Americans.
“…there’s very little doubt that we have to go from a party event to a call to the nation for action, action to help or fellow citizens in this time of tragedy and disaster, action in the form of volunteering, donations, reaching out our hands and our hearts and our wallets to the people who are under such great threat from this great natural disaster…..to act as Americans not Republicans, because America needs us now no matter whether we are Republican or Democrat”
He did not elaborate on specific changes to the program but preparations are under way for phone banking and the coordination of volunteer relief efforts.
McCain has now chartered flights so that Louisiana and Mississippi delegates can return to the region. They will be flown to Jackson, Mississippi. John McCain has a rally in St Louis later this afternoon where he will discuss his plans to alter the convention further. Tomorrow he plans to campaign in Toledo, Ohio.

Obama/ Biden campaign stumping is turning into one big friggin’ frat party! Yesterday we had Joe hitting the sauce. Now we have them hitting up women? WTF!

“You are gorgeous!” a woman in the crowd shouted.
Biden chuckled. “Who said that? Would you say that again for my wife?” Biden asked her.
“You are gorgeous!” she screamed again.
Biden, grinning wide, had one more request: “Would you make sure Jill hears that? … I haven’t heard that in a long, long, long time.”
After Obama’ remarks, Biden was approached by a woman wanting to talk.
“See? She thinks you’re gorgeous, too,” Obama said. “Jill goes back home and look what happens.”
Biden, still smiling, simply said: “This was worth the run.”

McCcain/Palin plan for the convention. Now we will have LEADERS!!!!

    Here is the plan:

    1. Complete all of the party’s administrative tasks as necessary in Minneapolis. Finish the party platform, recognize the delegates, and have the delegates cast their ballots for the Presidential and Vice Presidential nominees. This should take no more than one day.
    2. Move the officials and delegates to the Gulf State region for volunteer service. Coordinate volunteer efforts with state Governors, National Guard, and relief organizations. Service before self.
    3. On Thursday, convene the delegates and party chairman to officially accept the party’s Presidential and Vice Presidential nominee. Hold the proceedings in a safe but public location. If in New Orleans, then use the Louisiana Superdome. We are not trying to get 85 thousand viewers in a stadium, we just need those required; modesty before pomp and circumstance.

The Republican Party cannot be focused on convention schedules, hotel reservations, and receptions while ordinary people are suffering and losing their homes due to a natural disaster. Hotels and other vendors should be made to understand that the convention is being moved south for volunteer relief efforts; talk to the corporate offices if necessary. The RNC and McCain campaign have a ready-made army of volunteers to support fellow citizens; this opportunity should not be wasted.

Whereas the Democratic Party relied on speeches in Denver, the Republican Party can now show that it is a party of action. No speeches, just action. We don’t need glitz and fancy videos, we just need to fill sand bags and hand out supplies.

Cancel the showy splendor, cancel the speeches that no one listens to, convene McCain’s Army and march south.

It has always been my humble belief, from what I’ve been taught, and from my little experience that there is no such thing as the Wrath of God. If these so called Christians read the Bible, after Jesus, God is not the instrument of punishment but an instrument of forgiveness and love. Evil, in any form, human (because of our own free will) or deity (acts from nature, etc) is responsible of our calamities. Regardless of how simplistic this argument is. it is the inevitable religious and non religious truth that we see everyday.
Both extremes can be as evil as evil itself.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

Well actually, Hottie, My earliest ancestor was a supporter of George Washington. As a farmer, he grew and donated the crops that saved Washington’s army. We’ve never lived outside the US (visted though) and have always been proud American’s, highly involved in politics and until this election, staunch Democrats.

  • wodiej

that’s sweet. A lady at work told me a co-worker just found out her 2 yr old is autistic. I have an autisic nephew so I know a little bit about it. The woman was going on about how awful it was. I said you can look at this two ways. How awful it is. Or that God entrusted this person w this sweet soul. Alot of times I think the ones that are different like Emily are here for our benefit, to teach us things, not just the other way around.

those that are different change the world indeed…

As a former life-long Democrat, I respect your vote, laurie. Consider, however, that if you vote for McCain/Palin that you will be preventing Obama and his Pod Dem Party from taking over this country.

I feel duty bound to purge these fascists elements—both from the Right and Left—from our country!

  • cplummer

Just gettin’ ready to make the same observation. Has a GREAT ring to it, doesn’t it??

I can’t explain the thrill I felt when I heard about McCain’s selection of Sarah Palin. I have been a lifelong Democratic activist, raised by a pair of likewise strong Dems. But I drew the line in the sand and decided my support of this party would be determined by the RBC decision on FL and MI. I view their decision to be as blatantly undemocratic as that of the Supreme Court in 2000. Even more so, because it was MY democratic party doing the fixin’.

I was planning to vote for John McCain whilst holding my nose, but with his choice for VP, I may even brave a McCain/Palin bumper sticker.

With everything I despise in the Obama candidacy, and we all know his background and machinations, I still would have voted for him if he had been thoughtful enough to make me feel I was still welcome in my own party. I didn’t leave the Democratic party, it left without me.

  • felizarte

Yes indeed. No one can keep God away in anything. For all we know, it is a way provided for the Bush adm. to redeem itself after Katrina or a way for McCain and Palin to show their true heart. Michael Moore should know better than to mock what he does not know.

Let’s just keep God out of it.

    Good idea Larry…

Humans are funny that way… imbuing God with human attributes that is. We live in a universe of constant change and sometimes bad sh*t happens. It’s our limited perceptions as humans that label this change as good or bad. We are human… we are evolving. ;)

And then there’s the really scary one – throughout the primaries the CNN (the MAINSTREAM MEDIA) website that “moderated” into oblivion all (or at least 90% of) pro-Clinton and anti-obama posts.

This was not due to profanity or anything else objectionable – it was simply CENSORSHIP.

  • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

I agree. Can you imagine how the Dems would have rejoiced if McCain’s running mate was a woman in her 60′s or early 70′s? It would have been so over the top that you would not be able to stand it.

Was it during the 60′s when the theme was “Don’t trust anyone over 30″ that we began to disrespect our elders and believe that they were not wise? You see this all the time. Youth is a time when you think you know it all but prior to the degrading and coarseness of culture, I don’t recall a time of such vicious disregard of wisdom, women and children. I think that porn has something to do with this too.

The issues brought up in this campaign season have led to an epiphany affecting many areas for me. Whatever happens, I’ll never look at abortion, treatment of women along with the attempt to destroy refinement of our culture again. It’s serious.

McNamara’s topic of proportionality is appropriate here. (Re: Fog Of War)

The Fallwell/Robertson and the Moore/Fowler episodes are not proportionate. Falwell and Robertson really believe(d) in this stuff and have a following that laps it up.

Moore and Fowler probably don’t. They were gloating over the Republicans lack of luck and mocking the concept of a god at the same time. Fowler was a private (sic!) converstion and Moore’s audience on
Olbermann’s program might fit into an IHOP..

I’m a typical godless commie pinko so I’ll give them a pass on this one. But proportionality has never a factor in our nastygrams, so party on Johnson.

Let’s get to something of actual importance, though. The medium here, clueless ones, is really the message. “redstateabsentee” (is his Reagan icon for real or does it display a playful sense of irony?) managed to surreptitiously video record a significant Democrat operative on an airplane. How many GOP oppo research guys have been and are doing the same thing? How long has this been going on and how deeply has Team Obama and the DNC been penetrated?

The failure to properly prepare for and immediately respond to the Hurricane Katrina disaster lies squarely at the feet of then Louisianna Governor Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin.

Likewise, the responsibility to prepare for and respond to Hurricane Gustav lies squarely at the feet of Governor Bobby Jindal and Mayor Ray Nagin. At the present time, both are doing a good job.

This does not sound like sfhillary, who is an Obama supporter and not a bot. sfhillary is middle-aged and unlikely to use the term, “Dude.” I think a bot has hijacked his pseudonym because sfhillary tends to present reasonable arguments and not the projectile diarhhea that we’re seeing here.

There is something called America. It is not ruled by the obamabots, do you get it yet?

McCain will have somewhere around 50 million votes cast for him come election day and the one thing they all have in common is they are part of an army called free citizens.

This is a democracy. You want a movement and a cult of personality? You can go down to Cuba and help them clean up from Gustav.

Bill did more for disaster relief since leaving the Presidency than barky will ever do. And you demeaned him and laughed when JJ Jr. insulted her and mocked her.

Which is why I enjoy watching fundie’s faces when I talk about the Goddess. I say I was made in Her image. I speak about the Creatrix who gave birth to the Universes. That’s more in line with the Natural Laws of the Universes instead of the man made myths people have been brainwashed with to control them.

Since I do recall many of my past lives I do know our souls are androgynous, as is everything on the higher planes. What part of the Yin/Yang balancing out do people still refuse to comprehend? I assure it has been prophesied that the Goddess essence is flooding back into this 3D earthly plane for a reason and we have more surprises coming before Nov.

    Messy desk, messy mind.

Love the Clinton quote though. She is accountable and she rarely ever screws up things, she is such a hard worker and so careful by nature.

He is not. He has placed blame on everybody and if the blame is too close to hurting him – under the wheels they go, time and time again.

He blamed Hillary for most of his own mistakes, how much passing the buck can one man do before it reflects on him? Not much when lives are at stake.

POTUS, Commander in Chief cannot say the dog ate my homework when dealing with crisis. Barry would go on vacation and/or give a speech.

It is his supporters fault. They are apologists.

When the media turns, and they will, the supporters are going to realize the mess he truly is.

If they were only older and less blinded by their hopey-changey dream, they would have seen the empty suit with no accountability.

That sounds like that old video from months ago from the foreign press. It was quite an eye-opener.

GAZA for barky, very professional operation he has there, lots of computers with trolls all around posting to noquarter about how great a president ob will be.

Did you think we made that stuff up?

There really are in truth on film by the BBC, etc. phone banks, computer banks etc. for ob overseas and ob also ran ads directly from his campaign for volunteers who are paid $7.00 per hour. There were also many news stories about him hiring bloggers and internet goons. There was one in January or so in Time or Newsweek about his thousands of paid bloggers then one in April or May about him hiring 400 more that week to get his messages out.

That is why the DNC, radio, media etc. was inundated with his talking points.

I can’t vote for McCain. While I really appreciate Palin’s character, and I found McCain’s “maverick” personality interesting and genuine 8 years ago, I can’t vote for the other side simply because my side has become corrupted. The Republican party will never represent my values as a liberal. Because I’m not in a swing state, my vote will not make or break this election where I honestly don’t know who would be worse for the country, Obama or McCain. A Green vote is a statement that we need a 3rd party. I’m going to vote straight dem on any down ticket categories because I want a Democratic Congress.

I want the Clinton/DLC wing of the Democratic party to regroup and rise again. But I just can’t in good conscience vote for the Republicans. It’s a terribly hard year for this 25=year Dem.

If I were voting for who I find to be the most honorable and trustworthy as people — hands down it’s McCain/Palin. But they will never push the agenda that I believe will help the majority of working class Americans because the GOP philosophy is antithetical to that purpose. I’m not going to go into a discussion of Right vs. Left ideology now because those of you who know it, know what I’m talking about and those voting on pure personality or gut feeling or single issues will find something to argue my point and I’ll never change your mind, or you’ll just accuse me of being an Obamabot.

WHile I know McCain won’t further the agenda I believe in, I also don’t know if Obama will, either, with people like Goolsbee advising him. I’d say there is a better CHANCE at liberal causes being championed, but at the cost of having had my party stolen — I can’t support Obama/Biden.

So, the third way for me becuase it’s the only way I can live with myself. Maybe it’s not the most strategic, but it’s the only thing that I feel is honorable for my principles.

I care. I do not want groupthink of any kind to take hold. I respect sfhillary’s right to choose as I do yours and mine. I am definitely anti-Obama. I might be wrong.

  • Linda

    Absolutely.

    WHAT!!!!!?

And as my father in laws most telling token of rememberance from WWII, was a Nazi belt buckle that said “Gott Mit Uns” or “Gott Ist Mit Uns” which means God is with us.

God claimed to be on every side with every soldier in every war.

Stunning the lengths they will go to and smear a more qualified female…oh wait, it’s not. And God forbid any female would feel more comfortable with her own doctor in her own medical facility. It’s not like it was her first child and she had no idea what to expect.

They’re all fucking nuts, Larry. They’re bringing the country and civilisation down.

The One would not know what to do with something as big as a hurricane…. he needs to wait till someone else offers help and then copies their ideas….

like father like son did Biden use Neil Kinnock speech for his own work….

do not ever share anything with these 2 they will take it and announce it’s all their own work or ideas.

    What a farce.

I do know this. And it makes this whole election so bizarre for me. But I also know that the McCain of 2000 has been replaced by the one who suddenly was pushing the neocon agenda and I don’t really know WHAT he believes in. I prefer straight conservatives to Neocon whackjobs but neither will push for the kind of legislation and liberal focus that I believe we need to make a better country. I lived through Reagan/Bush 1 as a young person and those years almost destroyed my working class family. These last 8 years have taken their toll on our country in even worse ways.

I don’t trust any Republican to get things right unless they completely abandon REpublican ideals — you can do that in the Senate or like Schwartzenegger does as governor but I don’t see it happening as POTUS.

Anyway, as you can see — I’m torn. My state goes blue every time so I mean very little to the outcome. I don’t honestly know how I’d vote in a swing state.

  • Kate

Well, it’s Goddess, not God and she loves everyone.

Although she is pissed off about Global Warming, so I wouldn’t rule out her sending a hurricane after those that covered up scientific proof of the degrading environment.

The sucker’s attention is on the stall while the wire artist gets the wallet and makes the handoff.

Did anyone notice that the most hated people in the nation were just neatly parsed from the Republican Convention?

God is the stall, McCain the wire artist.

This election cycle just keeps on getting more bizarre.
