NOLA dodged yet another bullet as Gustav weakened when it hit land. Gustav was “only” a Cat 2 Hurricane when it hit Cocodrie LA. As this little hamlet is described as “unincorporated fishing, shrimping and crabbing village in Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, United States, it could have been much worse. The storm track then meandered past NOLA and Gustav continued to break down and break apart as it interacted with land.

As Hurricanes are very unpredictable it could have played out very differently. A different track with a stronger storm would have had a different end result. As NOLA may not have the capacity to survive a Cat 3 storm Gustav was a grave threat. Three years of neglect and indifference have left NOLA in a precarious position. The levies and the pumps that support them are by the Governments own admission iffy.

If we had a real government instead of a crony kelptocracy we would not have to even worry about a Katrina re-enactment three years after the fact. We would not have had Katrina in the first place.

By the way Johny Mac had zero business being in NOLA. His buddy Joe Lieberman chairs the relevant committee in the Senate. The Elephants are represented by Susan Collins and others. McCain is not even on the committee. The only reason Johny boy is there is for face time on the national news. The man is in the way and useless to the real worker-bees at FEMA. They’ve said Repubs would do it if the tables were turned. I was a Dem because I expected more integrity from my paty than I saw from Repubs.
