Rudy Shreds Obama’s Resume but Omits Relationship with Ayers

(cartoon found here)

Much attention is rightly being paid to Governor Palin’s speech from Wednesday night. But there were compelling points made by other speakers at the Republican Convention. For example, Rudy Guiliani, former mayor of New York City, said the following regarding Obama’s resume:

On the other hand, you have a resume from a gifted man with an Ivy League education. He worked as a community organizer. What? He worked — I said — I said, OK, OK, maybe this is the first problem on the resume.

He worked as a community organizer. He immersed himself in Chicago machine politics.

Notice how Rudy seamlessly links Obama’s work as a community organizer with the corrupt Chicago political machine. Now Rudy turns the knife on Obama’s celebrity status:

A few years later — a few years later, he ran for the U.S. Senate. He spent most of his time as a celebrity senator: no leadership, no legislation to really speak of.

His rise is remarkable in its own right. It’s the kind of thing that can happen only in America.

Obama’s rise has been remarkable, but it was not a miracle. His rise was facilitated by Chicago’s power brokers, people such as unrepentant terrorist Bill Ayers. And here is where Rudy omits an important bullet point on Obama’s incomplete resume:

But he’s never — he’s never run a city. He’s never run a state. He’s never run a business. He’s never run a military unit. He’s never had to lead people in crisis.

He is the least experienced candidate for president of the United States in at least the last 100 years.

Not a personal attack, a statement of fact. Barack Obama has never led anything, nothing, nada.

Nada, nothing.

Actually, Obama has led something: the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC). If the Republicans do their job, CAC will be a household name. Obama did lead this organization, but his actions during his tenure remain murky, to say the least. But there was a time, back in Chicago, when Obama was not concealing his work with CAC. Stanley Kurtz writes:

When Obama made his first run for political office, articles in both the Chicago Defender and the Hyde Park Herald featured among his qualifications his position as chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge, a foundation where Ayers was a founder and guiding force. Obama assumed the Annenberg board chairmanship only months before his first run for office, and almost certainly received the job at the behest of Bill Ayers.

This was a heady position for the obscure Obama. Steve Diamond reports:

The first chairman of the CAC Board was Barack Obama, at that point, 33 years old and a third year associate at Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a small Chicago law firm.

Not only did Ayers likely place Obama at the top of CAC, but they worked together to fund Ayers’ special projects:

During Obama’s time as Annenberg board chairman, Ayers’s own education projects received substantial funding. Indeed, during its first year, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge struggled with significant concerns about possible conflicts of interest. With a writ to aid Chicago’s public schools, the Annenberg challenge played a deeply political role in Chicago’s education wars, and as Annenberg board chairman, Obama clearly aligned himself with Ayers’s radical views on education issues.

Rudy got it partly right. Obama’s rise has been remarkable, but his leadership of CAC and the millions of dollars dispersed (perhaps $160 million) — with the help and guidance of Bill Ayers — is only now being reviewed. Kurtz writes:

This much we know from the public record, but a large cache of documents housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), is likely to flesh out the story.

Rudy Guiliani, the mayor who presided over the worst terrorist attack in American history, might be interested in knowing that Obama’s rise was facilitated by a man, Bill Ayers, who said of his own terrorist activities:

“I don’t regret setting bombs” and “I feel we didn’t do enough”, and, when asked if he would “do it all again” as saying “I don’t want to discount the possibility.”

There are burning questions regarding Obama, Ayers, and CAC: Where did all that money go? Who benefited? How much influence did Ayers exert on Obama in allocating funds? And why has there been a cover-up?

We’ll hear all about this in October. The Republicans have so much ammo, they are rolling it out bit by bit. The media may not touch the story (except for Fox) but the Republicans will get the message out.

The Democrats are gaining in one respect — the wimp factor.

Greenberg, Quinlan, Rosner has just released a survey that indicates that voters perceive Republicans once again as far and away better on national security issues than Democrats.

Forty nine percent of those surveyed thought Republicans were better on national security while 35 percent thought Democrats better. When it came to combating terrorism, 48 percent thought Republicans superior to Democrats while 33 percent gave Democrats the advantage.

According to the Greenberg study researchers:

The national security credibility gap is returning. Old doubts about Democrats on security, after diminishing during 2006-2007, have begun to re-emerge: concerns that Democrats follow the polls rather than principle; that Democrats are indecisive and are afraid to use force; and that Democrats don’t support the military. Because these weaknesses are longstanding and deeply ingrained, and because Republican weaknesses are newer and do not yet have a label associated with them, Republicans continue to win on many security issues.

There is a lot of educational experience there. Bill Ayers would make a great Secretary of Education in an Obama administration.

  • educatedwhitewoman

Yes, why is Barack Obama hiding his leadership role on this board? It’s really the only thing he can claim to have led, something which he desperately needs to pad his thin, thin resume. Yet, NADA, zip, no mention of it.

He wants to lead the free world, but won’t discuss his only leadership position? This is just one really important question the MSM keeps ignoring. I get ill every time I hear Obama, one of his handlers, or the in-the-tank MSM cheerleaders whine about Obama having been vetted, and now it’s Palins turn. Such total B.S.!

I read that BO was a proponent of educating Chicago youths on the Juneteenth festival…which AA’s are suppose to celebrate instead of July 4th, since AA’s didn’t get their independence on the 4th…

This was the Annenberg Challenge Fund and BO was the Chairman.

I also read that this project was picked over science and math projects….but 100 million ( I heard 50 million tax dollars and 50 million private matching funds) was spent.

I’ll bet those kids wish they knew science and math now…

The papers were finally released last week.

Rudy is anything but naive. The Republicans know about the Annenberg papers and the money that was lost. However, they didn’t need to hit that at the convention. The Repub convention was tightly monitored just like the Dem’s.

The Repub convention was about reintroducing the Mavrick McCain that younger voters don’t know anything about, celebrating Palin, and sending out the message that they both are reformers, change agents, who actually produce change.

In the days and weeks ahead, we are sure to see and hear information about Ayers and the Annenberg Challenge; Rezko and the use of Federal Funds; and Obama and Chicago politicians and the Illinois Hospital caper. Oh,there is also the upcoming release of Wright’s new book, which will allow Sean Hannity to again hit Obama and Wright’s relationship and revisit tapes he’s already shown and any others that he has been saving.

Barack Obama was the founding member of Public Allies. Michelle Obama was an executive there. He claims puiblic allies is a community organizing not for profit group. But it seems he wants to use this as a model to promote a national civilian force.

I wish the media will dig more into this public allies Chicago chapter.

I am very curious to see further details on the family, friends, business associates, and affiliated organizations that Barack and his partners funded with the $160M. Among these are Mike Klonsky, who Barack threw under the bus once his ties to terrorism came out, plus he’s a member of the Weather Underground with ties to communist and socialist parties. As well, there is ACORN that Obama worked with over the years–may have even been a member, plus money he sent their way (and even the $1M he laundered to them during the current campaign.

Eventually, they may also bring out Obama’s involvement in Kenya elections and his backing of Odinga. I think it may be on their list, because it involves Obama’s first foray into foreign relations as a US Senator. It is that story that first

Water and oil will not mix unless you add a little soap. Neither will Americans and anti Americans. Either those people were following Obama around or Obama was following those people around. They all shared a commonality or they would never have mixed and that commonality was their hatred for America. Obama’s mom was a hater, Michelle is a hater, Ayers is a hater and so is Rev Wright and some of Obama’s other preachers. There lies their commonality–HATE. Those mentioned is only the tip of the iceberg.

Absolutely! Bud and others have written on this. I have a post pending here that explores their 20-year relationship. Check out Steve Diamond’s new writing at his Global Labor blog. Michelle’s Boot Camps For Radicals
By INVESTOR’S BUSINESS DAILY | Posted Thursday, September 04, 2008 4:20 PM PT

Election ’08: Democrats’ reintroduction of militant Michelle Obama in Denver was supposed to show her softer side. But it only highlighted a radical part of her resume: Public Allies.

    ——————————————————————————–

IBD Series: The Audacity Of Socialism

    ——————————————————————————–

Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, “Universal Voluntary Public Service.”

Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they’ll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of “social change.”

The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn’t seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year “community leadership” positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They’ll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.

In exchange, they’ll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.

“Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities,” Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for “justice” and “equality” in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. “I get to practice being an activist,” and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.

Public Allies promotes “diversity and inclusion,” a program paper says. More than 70% of its recruits are “people of color.” When they’re not protesting, they’re staffing AIDS clinics, handing out condoms, bailing criminals out of jail and helping illegal aliens and the homeless obtain food stamps and other welfare.

Public Allies brags that more than 80% of graduates have continued working in nonprofit or government jobs. It’s training the “next generation of nonprofit leaders” — future “social entrepreneurs.”

The Obamas discourage work in the private sector. “Don’t go into corporate America,” Michelle has exhorted youth. “Work for the community. Be social workers.” Shun the “money culture,” Barack added. “Individual salvation depends on collective salvation.”

“If you commit to serving your community,” he pledged in his Denver acceptance speech, “we will make sure you can afford a college education.” So, go through government to go to college, and then go back into government.

Many of today’s youth find the pitch attractive. “I may spend the rest of my life trying to create social movement,” said Brian Coovert of the Cincinnati chapter. “There is always going to be work to do. Until we have a perfect country, I’ll have a job.”

Not all the recruits appreciate the PC indoctrination. “It was too touchy-feely,” said Nelly Nieblas, 29, of the 2005 Los Angeles class. “It’s a lot of talk about race, a lot of talk about sexism, a lot of talk about homophobia, talk about -isms and phobias.”

One of those -isms is “heterosexism,” which a Public Allies training seminar in Chicago describes as a negative byproduct of “capitalism, white supremacy, patriarchy and male-dominated privilege.”

The government now funds about half of Public Allies’ expenses through Clinton’s AmeriCorps. Obama wants to fully fund it and expand it into a national program that some see costing $500 billion. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded” as the military, he said.

The gall of it: The Obamas want to create a boot camp for radicals who hate the military — and stick American taxpayers with the bill.

  • http://globallabor.blogspot.com/ Steve Diamond

My understanding of this from listening to Stanley Kurtz on the Milt Rosenberg show is that the CAC funded a group that promoted African heritage issues in the Chicago schools and that this group had a connection to another group that promoted the Juneteenth celebration. In or around that time frame one of the grants that was turned down was for a project that wanted to promote the learning of algebra is in public schools.

Whether this is indicative of a pattern – the promotion of what might be called “politically correct” programs in preference over traditional courses – remains to be seen.

From the materials I have seen there is certainly a tendency to favor political correct groups but there were also sizeable grants that went to various efforts to improve reading, writing and arithmetic, though they were not particularly successful.

What has to be kept in mind about the CAC is that some significant percentage – just exactly what percentage I do not know – of the funds raised by the Challenge were already committed to various programs and just re-branded as CAC monies. Whether these re-branded monies were the traditional approaches and the new money from CAC was used for more p.c. style courses, I do not know.

However, what is clear is that a central goal and constant of the CAC was the use of their money to intervene in the election and direction of the LSC’s by recruiting and training candidates for those Councils. Since these Councils were very controversial – Mayor Daley and the business community had soured on them and were in the process of getting new legislation passed to gut them – it put the CAC and its leadership in a battle with the Daley administration.

Thus Ayers and Obama were in the thick of the Chicago school wars for the entire period of 1995-2001, comrades in arms so to speak.

Well, cpl, if you dig a little deeper-there is also bisexuality and drugs…Ayers admitts in his own book he is bisexual, than you have Framk Marshall Davis, self-admitted Marxist and bisexual, 20 yr mentor for Barack Soetoro, he refers to Marshall as his Uncle Frank. Than you have Stuart Levine from the Rezko trial “Purple Room,” on-going, evidently over several years, drugs and all male parties. Than allegations from a Mr. Larry Sinclair! She pushed through the paperwork in record time. And enough has not been done to look into how she handled this matter.

  • Violet Socks

Why do you keep referring to Ayers as an “unrepentant terrorist”? This is his letter to the New York Times:

    September 15, 2001

    To The Editors—

In July of this year Dinitia Smith asked my publisher if she might interview me for the New York Times on my forthcoming book, Fugitive Days. From the start she questioned me sharply about bombings, and each time I referred her to my memoir where I discussed the culture of violence we all live with in America, my growing anger in the 1960’s about the structures of racism and the escalating war, and the complex, sometimes extreme and despairing choices I made in those terrible times.

Smith’s angle is captured in the Times headline: “No regrets for a love of explosives” (September 11, 2001). She and I spoke a lot about regrets, about loss, about attempts to account for one’s life. I never said I had any love for explosives, and anyone who knows me found that headline sensationalistic nonsense. I said I had a thousand regrets, but no regrets for opposing the war with every ounce of my strength. I told her that in light of the indiscriminate murder of millions of Vietnamese, we showed remarkable restraint, and that while we tried to sound a piercing alarm in those years, in fact we didn’t do enough to stop the war.

Smith writes of me: “Even today, he ‘finds a certain eloquence to bombs, a poetry and a pattern from a safe distance,’ he writes.” This fragment seems to support her “love affair with bombs” thesis, but it is the opposite of what I wrote:

We’ll bomb them into the Stone Age, an unhinged American politician had intoned, echoing a gung-ho, shoot-from-the-hip general… each describing an American policy rarely spoken so plainly. Boom. Boom. Boom. Poor Viet Nam. Almost four times the destructive power Florida… How could we understand it? How could we take it in? Most important, what should we do about it? Bombs away. There is a certain eloquence to bombs, a poetry and a pattern from a safe distance. The rhythm of B-52s dropping bombs over Viet Nam, a deceptive calm at 40,000 feet as the doors ease open and millennial eggs are delivered on the green canopy below, the relentless thud of indiscriminate destruction and death without pause on the ground. Nothing subtle or syncopated. Not a happy rhythm. Three million Vietnamese lives were extinguished. Dig up Florida and throw it into the ocean. Annihilate Chicago or London or Bonn. Three million—each with a mother and a father, a distinct name, a mind and a body and a spirit, someone who knew him well or cared for her or counted on her for something or was annoyed or burdened or irritated by him; each knew something of joy or sadness or beauty or pain. Each was ripped out of this world, a little red dampness staining the earth, drying up, fading, and gone. Bodies torn apart, blown away, smudged out, lost forever.

I wrote about Vietnamese lives as a personal American responsibility, then, and the hypocrisy of claiming an American innocence as we constructed and stoked an intricate and hideous chamber of death in Asia. Clearly I wrote and spoke about the export of violence and the government’s love affair with bombs. Just as clearly Dinitia Smith was interested in her journalistic angle and not the truth. This is not a question of being misunderstood or “taken out of context,” but of deliberate distortion.

Some readers apparently responded to her piece, published on the same day as the vicious terrorist attacks in New York and Washington, by associating my book with them. This is absurd. My memoir is from start to finish a condemnation of terrorism, of the indiscriminate murder of human beings, whether driven by fanaticism or official policy. It begins literally in the shadow of Hiroshima and comes of age in the killing fields of Southeast Asia. My book criticizes the American obsession with a clean and distanced violence, and the culture of thoughtlessness and carelessness that results from it. We are now witnessing crimes against humanity in our own land on an unthinkable scale, and I fear that we might soon see innocent people in other parts of the world as well as in the U.S. dying and suffering in response.

All that we witnessed September 11—the awful carnage and pain, the heroism of ordinary people—may drive us mad with grief and anger, or it may open us to hope in new ways. Perhaps precisely because we have suffered we can embrace the suffering of others and gather the necessary wisdom to resist the impulse to lash out randomly. The lessons of the anti-war movements of the 1960s and 70s may be more urgent now than ever.

Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993.
