            IA. I don’t like her telling Hillary to work harder, as if Hillary weren’t already working 3X as hard just to get half the credit. Nothing pisses me off more than someone suggesting to me that I do something I’m already doing! One could say some of the things in her speech were whiny. I will still vote for her, and she will quickly learn that not calling a spade as spade gives a free pass to the source of the “ism” (ism, ism ;-) Besides, Hillary wasn’t whining, just answering someone else’s question.

                Agreement here as well. I sort of was taken aback by Sarah’s comments about Hillary.

                Sarah could just have easily said she can understand why Hillary reacted the way she did because of horrible way she has been and is still being treated.

                Sarah’s speech, while funny and sometimes spot-on could be seen as whining. She talks about moving above it, but her whole speech was about reacting to the accusations of the Obama camp and the media.

                Vote for McCain/Palin if you must – But do not turn on Hillary and remember:

                Sarah Palin was never and will never be Hillary Clinton. Don’t confuse them, or project what you saw in Hillary onto Sarah. They are not the same.

                With that being said, I thought this was an Anti-Obama site anyway. Let’s make Obama lose on his own accord, not because we have to push for McCain/Palin.

                As soon as the election is over and if Obama loses, we have to start campaigning for Hillary. It will be a lot harder if we all have been seen as McCain/Palin supporters, I think.

              Try to keep in mind this was before Palin joined the ticket. She is a politician and hence must present herself. I don’t see her ever presenting herself as the victim so she played that up. She’s from Alaska so she does have to make the most of her chances and that means going over the top at times.
              But now that she is with McCain I’ll bet he won’t tolerate any such comments about Hillary unless Hillary fires first.

            She needs to tread carefully. It’s not a done deal. She has solidified their base, but we all know that they need other voters to win. So it’s not enought to say
            “With all due respect to Hillary”, then proceed with a snarky criticism. First of all Hillary has been subjected to sexist comments for a lot longer than Sarah Palin if only because she’s been in the game longer.

It was at that time that Hillary made her comments about the sexist media. And I might recall she spoke about how women were treated not how she was treated.

            You have no idea where s/he voted. Outside of FL and to a lesser degree NH, the Nader vote did not matter one iota (Gore did win the popular vote and the other swing states didn’t change with Nader’s tally). Even so, Gore still won; though his campaign was inept (Brazile) particularly in the FL re-count and the SCOTUS had to give Bush the Presidency.

            This time, any vote not for Obama helps McCain, except those for Bob Barr (believe his voters would normally vote for Republican). Even in swing states, it is ok to vote Nader, Green, no one at the top of the ticket, etc. (please don’t stay home, vote down ticket), if you would have voted Democratic. Sure, a vote for McCain is a stronger vote against Obama, but, the others are good enough.

            Well, I live in a pretty solidly red state but one that many have considered “in play” because of Barry’s skin color. Alabama has a sizable AA population and any sort of major increase in AA voter registration could actually swing the state into the Democratic column in spite of the fact that since the ratification of the 24th Amendment and the passage of the Civil Rights Act, only ONE Democrat has managed to take Alabama’s popular and electoral votes (that was Carter in 1976) and only one other non-GOP candidate has done so (that was Wallace in 1968). Even Bill Clinton, the best President for African-Americans, couldn’t manage to take the state in 1992 or 1996 (and in both years, Perot was responsible for peeling off more votes from the GOP than the Dems).
            What I saw as a pretty strong suggestion that Alabama will remain in the GOP column is that the combined total of the Democratic primary vote for the US Senate was still considerably smaller than the vote for the GOP winner’s vote (and he only got a bit over 90% of the GOP primary vote). And the strongest candidate (and primary winner) on the Democratic side was an African-American woman.

      I have to say, it bothers me a great deal that Hillary is now being used as a tool to beat the Palin popularity. Some may say it’s political but dang, I would like to see integrity come out from Hillary. Barry and his minions crapped on her and called her a bitch throughout the primary, now she’s their hero?         Right on. I was a huge Hillary supporter but watching her at this point is driving my support away from her. I understand why she would choose to go out there for Obama on a political level, but believing that she knows how horrible he would be for the country – saving her own political future is sickening to watch. I feel like she’s selling out. Makes me want Palin all the more. At least she seems to stand on principles. (I may not agree with her positions visa vie abortion – but I respect her integrity- where the heck is Hillary’s? If Hillary goes after Palin there will be blow back from some of the 18 mil.

              I dont agree that it is all about Hillary’s career for Hillary. In some ways the politicos have much less luxury to voice their private opinions than any of us do. For most of us here this election is about country first, not the political party that feels co-opted. But Hillary is far more deeply entrenched in the Party, what she going to do – want to end up like Lieberman with no real pull or sway?
              I dont think Palin was trying to trash Hillary either, she made these comments before she became the VP nominee. She was I think trying to send a message, that you can see very clearly from her background, is one of women playing hard ball and needing dare I say it – No Quarter! As we know Hillary is one tough fighter, but she is also a very, very experienced diplomat, so she chooses very carefully what she says and does. The comments that Hillary made at the time about msm sexism were made because many of her supporters were asking her to acknowledge it, and because there were a few articles about it, (a very few maybe) I dont think Palin is trying to play down Hillary at all – better not! or she will not get my support!!

She can’t run as an independent and expect to win and she certainly can’t run as a Republican. Please, save your anger and disappointment for Obama, he’s the one that has helped destroy the DNC, it’s Hillary that is trying to keep it together so that she can win in 2012.           Democratic agenda, which includes many of the
          things she campaigned on. She can campaign against the McCain-Palin ticket without seeking
          to personally attack either. Obama has Biden
          that was his choice. They will win or loose on their own merit. Today, I’m sure there are alot
          of Democrats second-guessing what’s happened up
          til now. But, we are where we are. Hillary can’t be expected to WIN it for them too! Besides, OB has Claire, Nancy and all the rest of his female devotees.
          I have no problem with Hillary keeping faith
          with what she knows will be important: downticket Democrats to get the agenda passed. A veto proof senate. Especially, if there is a McCain-Palin victory.

          Spot on. There is no need to send a woman to fight another woman. Obama and Biden should be able to do it on their own.     Okay, that was the first time I’ve seen the “Hillary Whine” clip. I believe Palin is right with her statement. As women we have to often bury that instinct in order to accomplish the greater good. Many ‘o many times I have swallowed hard to not break out in tears. I do not allow myself to use that natural instinct of nagging my husband to get things done. I play the game in a manner that brings me a better outcome.

    Palin obviously didn’t mean it as an insult.

      I don’t think she meant it as an insult, however, she also said it as someone who had not experienced what Hillary was going through. Now she has, and she has a whole party to stand up for her, something Hillary never had. So how would she fare without the support of her party with the media onslaught she has been recieving? We don’t know, but I can guess she is rethinking her statement now that she has an idea of the unbelievable pressure Hillary faced.

      I think we have all swallowed hard not to break into tears and I’m not sure what nagging a husband has to do with the conversation, but o.k. Hillary is a Pioneer and a pioneer makes it experiences and deals with difficulties so all who come after have it easier. So let’s pay that the respect it is due, instead of trying to pretend Hillary “whined” over an office fight.

          The racist charges stung when they were first launched, deep down, we knew that Bill wasn’t a racist, but the charge came as such a shock, we had to step back for a minute, and ask ourselves, “Were we wrong about Bill?”
          But the dust settled, we saw his work in Africa, we already knew about his work in African-American communities, and we finally saw how low-down Obama was.

          The people defending Palin really do benefit from the fact that the American public is hip to Obama’s game, and we aren’t going to fall for that anymore.

            I am not sure because I don’t know Sarah Palin. I suspect she wouldn’t even if it is just political, because I do believe that she has good political instincts (that’s a compliment, I love politics and admire good politicians, no matter what political stripe).

            Like I did with Obama, I want to know more about Palin. I hate this “fresh face bursting on the national scene” line – that signals to me that the Parties don’t want a messy paper trail and just want to snowball the voters. That said, I am not saying that Palin cannot be up for the job, just that I know almost nothing about her, except, the issues she purports are mostly antithetical to mine.

      The Perceived Whine – is part of the problem. Keyword: Perceived.

      My PERCEPTION of how Hillary ran her campaign and indeed all of her campaigns is that she continually RISES ABOVE THE FRAY – almost to the point of absurdity.

      I recall her calling out the media for their sexism/misogyny ONCE – maybe TWICE. And, that was only after months upon months of bruising abuse at the hands of the media and her own party.

      The question itself shows bias. We need to be more vigilant about how issues, particularly women’s issues that affect us, are “framed”.

      Sarah Palin is a very likable new politician. She may well be our next President. However, her rise is due in part to the direct “slipstream” effect of Hillary’s primary race. (It reminds me of how Jason Lezak managed to pull off that win in the men’s swimming relay race in Beijing.)

      Hillary may never live down her role as ‘scapegoat’ where both parties, male and female feel justified in dumping on her no matter how small the slight.

      She may never run for office again, if she feels supplanted by her younger Republican counterpart who has in 6 short days achieved iconic status without the so-called high negatives.

      But she will go down in history as the first woman to win primary races – and the first person to receive the most votes of any politician ever.

      She has paved the way for Sarah – in short order.

      And, you know it took a few years for the Williams sisters to credit Billie Jean King for her groundbreaking work to boost women’s tennis.

      SP could stand to drop the “Yes, she did whine” from her repertoire.

        That Palin’s remark is based entirely on the msm perception that Hillary whined. The msm called Hillary a whiner and they called us that as well.

        Hillary commented I think once about the coverage being slanted. Her supporters protested the msm overt bias and we were all labeled as such.

        I refuse to wear that label. I have every right to point out media bias. For example, I never cared that they asked Hillary tough questions, I only cared that they NEVER asked 0bama any.

        To date, no one in the media has asked 0bama tough questions about his lie that Ayers was “just a guy in his neighborhood” and call him on his involvement with the Annenburg Challenge and his work with Ayers.

        Now that’s media bias and no one can call me a whiner for pointing that out.

        And that’s just one example.

        Palin’s comments are colored by the media’s perception. I bet if the McCain allowed her to respond to that question now after having experienced what she did, she would answer differently.

        0bama is in this predicament because he didn’t demand an end to media sexism. He could have warned the media to lay off the sexism and only deal with the issues. He said nothing because he was enjoying and exploiting the Hillary bashing.

        Hence, he’s in the situation he finds himself in today. And I don’t feel sorry for him.

        And the media is in this situation because they continue not to play fair.

        If they start asking 0bama hard questions, I can’t complain about them asking Sarah ones too.

        All we want is fairness.

        But the msm is determined to get 0bama elected.

        Which is why I no longer watch them. They have zer0 credibility.

      This is a frequent opinion (I used to hold too), that women should swallow their just dissapointment and go on for the larger good.

      This is the opinion that keeps abused women silent in their marriage, for the larger good of the family.

      This is a myth that the abusers want us to sign up for, so they can continue the abuse.

      Our society has learned not to discriminate against blacks.

      If Sarah would suggest, that blacks should take the discrimination, because it is a given in our society, everybody would find it offensive.

      If you ever have a doubt about a statement, if it is discriminatory or not, just replace the subjects with other kind of subjects – and you see it rightaway.

    Ironically enough, these videos were obviously taped while hillary was still running for President. Now, today, the attacks are being waged against Palin. The difference being Sarah (Thank God) won’t have to be considered shrill or a whiner because she will be able to directly attack Barack (and not with Democratic censorship of the facts) and Biden, and the RNC will publicly call the Media to task for the mysogeny, and will weild their power against those who will try to use it against Palin. Also, she has a great man in John McCain who will come to the defense of his VP pick, as well. Bill came to the aid of Hillary, and the Media (and the DNC) labeled him a crazy, bitter, has-been racist who was aloose cannon that Hillary couldn’t control, and who would cost her the Nomination.       The Press’s motivation to attack Palin is not only to knock her off politically.. but also to ensure that her beliefs are discredit.

          Unlike Obama, I found McCain’s speech to be quite humbling. I think if you can humble yourself like that (especially in front of millions), you have a stand up character. Also, I almost felt McCain was alluding to an extreme makeover of the Repub party which was somewhat comforting for me.

      No matter what other posters say, you are helping to defeat Obama by not voting for him. There are PUMAs of every stripe, we all agree on not supporting Obama and his enablers and we do it in our own way. Dogmatic put downs because you won’t follow the “Party” line are not conducive to good discussion.

      Again, voting for other candidates or not voting for the top of the ticket are viable options in helping to defeat Obama. The example of Nader hurt the Democrats, because, most of Nader’s voters were ostensibly more inclined to vote Democratic. I say ostensibly, because I spoke to a lot of Nader voters and many never voted Democratic and never intended to do so. I also spoke to some who might have voted Democratic and in FL, if 536 of them voted for Gore, GW’s brother would have had to steal more votes.

              It’s time for everyone to ignore Hillary for the time being. This is our battle and she can’t fight it for us.

              And like someone said, I don’t have Hillary on a pedastal. She and I happen to disagree right now. At least publicly. Because deep down inside, I would make book on the fact that she wants McCain to win.

Example, if you said, “I lost my job to China,” They would say “Stop whining.” There was never any debate about whether the policies were good. They were stopped by the threat of characterization.       My dictionary defines whine as 1) to utter a peevish, high-pitched, somewhat nasal sound, as in complain, distress, fear, etc., 2) to complain or beg in a childishly undignified way.

        Also, I think there is an important distinction between saying “Hillary is whining” and “there is a perceived whine.” Palin said the latter, not the former, in acknowledgment of people holding women to a different standard than men.

Any vote that would normally go to the Democratic Presidential nominee and does not, is a vote against that Democratic nominee. People can agree on not voting for Obama and do that in their own way.       Politicians are held to a different, particular standard. This discussion has everything to do with the role you are in and how you express or do not express your personal feelings. The role of politician demands a particular level of–say, decorum that may not be required of a person in a different job or role. We all would like Hillary to tell Obama to stuff it, but that isn’t likely to happen, at least not overtly. To make a simplistic analogy, men put on suits for business, whether they like suits or not. It is a role. Most women wear makeup in corporate America, even if they’d rather not. It is part of the role. Mothers and fathers tell their young children “it will all be OK”, even when they fear it will not be OK. We all have roles to play and they don’t always line up with what we really feel. For better or worse.

There has been Primary opponents to sitting Presidents, Ted Kennedy is one of them against Carter. LBJ was another and he did decline to run again because he was going to be defeated in the Primary. So, John’s scenario does have historical precedent.

Probably not, but at least she would have had a chance. Strangers things have happened. At the least she would have made all the Obama supporters really go on record in a very public way as far as their support of him went, and therefore it would have been easier to clean up the riff raff, after Obama get his clock cleaned in this election. I like McCains attitude ” I will fight for you with my last breath”

    Sure, that is conventional thinking. Why not challenge that thinking and blaze a totally new path. She had more voters than anyone in history. Do not let cynicism control your courage or character.
    That is what is wrong in politics. Our politicians have turned it into gang warfare. Red vs Blue and anyone outside of us is eaten.
    Hillary could have created a GE campaign based on the idea of what McCain is doing. It is not the party that matters it is the poeple.
    Hillary had enough votes and staunch supporters she could have run independant.
    I am afraid she was to worryed about serving her self interest and not ours.
    As i said above, she is going to lose credibility with some(not all) women and men for saying she is fighting to shatter the highest hardest glass ceiling and now she is preventing another competent, couragous women from doing just that.

    And, Palin said in her intro speech as VP, she would not be there if not for Ferraro and Hillary. She paid her respect and got applause from 15000 repubs for Hillary. How does hillary pay her back for that respect? By trying to knock her down for the same guy who destroyed her the same way he is trying to destroy Palin.
    I am sorry, but i have lost alot of respect for Hillary.

    I am fascinated by some women on here.

    Its as if the most important thing is not getting the glass cieling broke, but rather the most important thing is that Hillary gets credit for it.

    You guys have made Hillary bigger than the movement itself.

    Hillary is no longer a fighter for the woman movement, the woman movement fights for Hillary.

    I dont care if Hillary gets the credit for it, or if Palin gets the credit for breaking the glass cieling, I just want it broke …

    Bottom line is that Hillary had her chance, and she quit pre maturely, so she could still have some leverage in the democratic party. Good move career wise, but hardly the stuff that makes up a true hero in the movement.

    If you believe in something, then you fight till the end. McCain stayed a extra 5 years in a pow camp, because he believed in America. And hillary couldnt take the flight to the floor, because she wanted to remain in the good graces of dean, pelosi, brazille etc …

      I think it’s great what’s happened to Palin. But I was voting for McCain even before she was on the ticket because I’m anti-0bama. If McCain wins that’s great! An important part of the glass ceiling will have been broken. Hillary’s no longer a factor in this election. She lost.

      But I’m not going to join you in Hillary bashing because she is honoring her promise to campaign for 0bama, towing the Party line and taking into consideration down-ticket Dems who supported her as well as protecting her husband’s legacy. If the Clintons bolt the Dem Party, his administration would pretty much be erased from history. Certainly, he would never receive any recognition from the Party ever!

      It’s nice that Palin got this opportunity. But I cannot forget that we have major ideological differences. I was voting for McCain even before she was on it. It helps somewhat that a woman will have the opportunity for achievement. It is somewhat bittersweet in that context.

      But you might as well accept that a lot of women are not going to vote for her just because she’s a woman. That’s their right.

      I supported Hillary because she was the stronger candidate. Not because she was a woman. I am angry because sexism and racism was used to destroy her candidacy along with backroom Democratic politics.

      I’m not supporting 0bama because he is not experienced enough to be president. Because he is a liar, a corrupt politician who gamed the Caucus with Chicago thug tactics, used racism to exploit the black community, was sexist and pretended not to be and because he does not stand for anything except getting elected.

      McCain at least has been in Washington through 4 presidencies, has proven that he is able to work on a bi-partisan basis and has strong convictions and ideals. I thank God that he won the Republican nomination instead of a Conservative that I would be hard-pressed to vote for.

      I doubt that I could support Palin if she was on the top of the ticket just because she’s a woman. But I trust that even with McCain’s age, that she is smart, a quick study and could very well step in and be POTUS once McCain’s administration is in place. I laugh when people say she’s never traveled, because neither had 0bama until his crash course 10 day junket in July. What a joke!

      And it bothered me that he wouldn’t visit the troops in the hospital. It didn’t speak well of him.

      0bama doesn’t look presidential to me. And again I remind you that I’m an AA so it’s not racism. I know lots of black men personally that are super smart and carry themselves in a way more presidential manner than 0bama. And certainly there other black politicians who do.

      Last night on 0′Reilly, 0bama again was round shouldered and looked defensive. He slouched at Saddlebrook. He has a nervous edge to him that I don’t like. He’s not confident even in his arrogance. He’s also remote and unfriendly. I rarely see him linger and converse with anyone like Hillary and even McCain does.

      But I digress. I’m not going to bash Hillary.

      Maybe you Hillary bashers need to start your own board to do that. But trust me, you’re only going to convert the ‘Undecideds’ over to 0bama doing that.

      Personally, I think he’s going to have a breadown when he loses.

    Your missing the point about Hillary running in 2012. No matter how bad Obama does during a hypothetical presidency, it does not matter, because he owns the black vote 100%. Black people rule the democratic primaries, and they will NEVER abandon Obama, no matter what he says and does. The way the primaries are set up and scheduled and ecspecially with the caucasses, you might never again see another white candidate come out of the democratic side. Any person Anybody who is black, they dont have to be a politician, it could be the local dog catcher, and as long as he is black, then he will win certain states, and have a huge advantage in others.

    Palin was trying to say what is generally accepted by all women who run for elected office and their advisers. And, the bar is higher for women.

    A woman cannot complain about sexism or she is prone to attacks that she “can’t stand the heat”. What’d Barack Obama say just today?–> “I was under the impression she (Palin) wanted to be treated like men are treated.” That line of attack is used to bring a woman down.

    I would not have used Palin’s choice of words, but, then she is not an extension of me nor me of her. Still, Gov. Palin is correct.

      This is not applicable in the General Election where the majority population, the white population usually vote in blocs for their white candidates.

      Remember, Dean facilitated this in the Primary. It’s time to put blame where blame is due. The DNC leaders picked the wrong horse to back. And they were stupid to pit 2 important voting blocs against each other. They fractured/split the Party. Hillary didn’t have a thing to do with it.

    I don’t want to rain on anyone’s parade, but I received this email regarding Palin. We have several friends/relatives in Alaska and have been through Wasilla several times. I have taken out all identifying information because I did not ask for permission to post. Now, though I am totally opposed to Obama, now I have questions about Palin. Some of this has been bandied about in the news, but this provides detail.

    DARN-I am still mostly really upset with the National Dem Party. They could have had HILLARY!

    Here it is and it’s long:

    “I have known Sarah since 1992. Wasilla is a small town. Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a first-name basis.
    My son is a friend of her daughter Bristol. I also am on a first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more City Council meetings
    during her administration than about 99% of the residents of the city.

    She has matured a lot since her early days on the City Council. Thank God.

    She is enormously popular, having enjoyed approval ratings above 70%, and as high as 80%, as Governor. In every way she’s like the most popular girl
    in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won’t vote for her can’t quit smiling when talking about her because she is a “babe”.

    She’s smart and savvy, but her only real experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 4,500 (at the time), and 1.5 yrs as governor of a
    state with under 700,000 residents.

    It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents for eight months.

    She is “pro-life” and she walks that talk.=2 0 She recently gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby.

    She has terrific parents who have been there for her and lots of help raising her kids and managing her family. She has good kids. Like all politicians, she is a largely absent parent, and spends more time with her kids in public when there are cameras rolling than in private. Her family was slow to grasp the reality of political life and used to complain about her parenting.

    She is photogenic in spades. She is a good smiler. She is a former TV reporter and is comfortable behind the camera. She is a former beauty queen.

    She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

    She is savvy. She doesn’t take positions; she just “puts things out there” and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

    She has taken on the Republican Party power-brokers in Alaska.

    Her husband works “2 on, 2 off” on the North Slope for BP and is a champion snowmobile racer. He arranges his work schedule so he can fish for salmon
    in Bristol Bay for a month in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been
    anything like that of native Alaskans.

    Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters; her pro-NRA positions are not just political posturing.

    During her mayoral administration most of the20actual work of running thissmall city was turned over to an administrator who she had been pushed to hire by party power-brokers after she had gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had given rise to a recall attempt.

    Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6 years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over 33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation (1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she brags about benefited large corporate
    property owners way more than they benefited residents.

    The huge increases in tax revenues during her administration weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed money was needed, too.
    She inherited a city with ZERO debt, but left it with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage the voters to borrow money for?
    Was it the infrastructure that she said she supported? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a20huge money pit, not the profit- generator she claimed it
    would be. $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing. Meanwhile, the City still lacks a sewage treatment
    plant and other basic infrastructure.

    While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office re-decorated more than once.

    These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a small city (population at that time of about 4,500). Public indebtedness under her mayoral administration
    increased over $4000 per capita.

    As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Rather than invest it in technology that will make us energy
    independent and increase efficiency, she proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

    SPEND AND BORROW. In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects,
    even while she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spendtoday’s surplus, borrow for needs.

    She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by her or her
    staff. While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing
    from the library some books that Sarah didn’t like. City residents rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and20against Palin’s attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

    Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club”, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of “old boys”, including Wasilla’s worst-ever Public Works Director, the totally unqualified wife of a powerful person in state politics. She fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as Governor she hired/elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people, creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally grateful, so fiercely loyal– loyal to the point of abusing their power to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

    Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated” her, she told the press. Her recent firing of Alaska’s top cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and she had every legal right to fire him, but it’s pretty clear that an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn’t fire her sister’s ex-husband, a State Trooper.
    Under investigation for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that
    she later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew the nomination.

    She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town introducing
    her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She abruptly fired her loyal
    City Administrator; even people who didn’t like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

    Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything publicly about her. People fear her.

    When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah demanded the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no background in Oil & Gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job which paid
    $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured hours, the work.
    A member of the Commission and the State Chair of the Republican Party was ethically challenged, by dramatically quitting and accusing him of ethics
    violations (for which he was fined) she solved all her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and garnered gobs of media attention as
    the patron saint of ethics and as a gutsy fighter against the status quo.

    She is solidly Republican. Her battles with the Republican party were not over philosophy. They were over ethics and power. She is no political
    maverick in terms of philosophy.

    Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah. They don’t call her “Saint Sarah”; they call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and predatory ruthlessness. When Sarah’s mother-in-law ran for Mayor, Sarah endorsed the person who was running AGAINST her
    mother-in-law who was a highly respected member of the community and experienced manager.

    McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President. It scares the heck out of me to think that someone as inexperienced as Sarah Palin could become President. There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more knowledgeable and experienced than she.

    However, there’s a lot of people who have under-estimated her and are regretting it.

      This email is very well-written. I point that out because I’m a writer and I used to read emails for a living and letters, too.

      Something about it has a ‘professional’ tone to it. Now I’m not disputing the info because I have no way of knowing what goes on in Alaska. What you described when describing Palin was a politician. It seems that they all have this personality. But I am suspicious of the origin of the email.

      One of the reasons I don’t support 0bama is because he came on the scene as Palin described as a ‘Savior who could part the seas and heal the sick.’ In reality, he is a dirty politician and the personality described in that above email, could be 0bama.

      Nothing in that email says that she is less experienced than 0bama. I’d say they are on a level playing field in that dept and whereas she has been governing for almost 2 years, he’s been running for POTUS after only 25 months in the Senate.

      I think the reports of McCain’s death are greatly exaggerated. If he’s elected, he’ll have at least the opportunity to put an administration in place and she, like the other vice presidents who stepped in, will have to deal with a team in place. And serving out the rest of the term which could be anything from 2 years to a couple of months and gives the Parties a chance at re-election. I guess people think McCain isn’t going to serve any time. Sure that could happen. It could happen to anyone.

      I think McCain is going to begin assembling his Cabinet early. I also bet Palin had to agree to terms with McCain and Party officials about hypotheticals. She’s relatively new and she does not have people around her yet who have power. So she’s at the mercy of who McCain has in place already. I doubt that the Repubs, of all people, would let her get away with a whole lot. And she also would have to name a vice president. I think she would be under a lot of pressure to tow the line in serving out any term if McCain were to expire.

      If we elect 0bama, there are no ‘what ifs.’ He’ll be POTUS. And his lack of experience is more frightening to me than hers.

    Throughout this discussion, Sarah Palin is sitting next to Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano. Napolitano is an Obama supporter which I attribute to her apparently close connection to John Kerry.

    Anyway, Napolitano agreed that Palin was being subjected to sexism by the media and had this to say:

    “There’s a line that (former Texas Gov.) Ann Richards used to use about running for public office,” Napolitano said.

    ‘If you’re a woman, this is what happens: If you’re not married, you couldn’t get a man. If you’re married, you’re ignoring your man. If you’re divorced, you couldn’t keep your man. And if you’re widowed, you killed your man,’ Napolitano said. “So that when a woman runs, there does tend to be a different emphasis with the coverage.”

    Napolitano has been subjected to some of the same sexist attention herself. She is apparently not feminine enough for some of the male observers.

    A female candidate can’t win for losing.

    I agree with those who say McCain’s choice of Sarah Palin as his running mate is brilliant.

    Senator Clinton never “whined” about the sexist coverage and attacks. She made a complaint when the media made a sexist comment about Chelsea. She pointed out the she was always asked questions first in the debates and fought for fairness herself, because no one would do it for her.

    Clinton WAS treated with sexism, but it was pointed out by her supporters and others, never herself. I think that needs to be clear.

    If Hillary were the nominee, the Democrats wouldn’t be watching the Republican convention at this stage in the game. The election would have been over and done by now.

    Instead, we are stuck with a weak nominee who didn’t give the party a chance to heal by denying the roll call to go through, and thereby making his ‘selection’ illegitimate. This shows extremely poor judgment on the part of the nominee and the party. We are now paying for it by losing the popularity contest that we started playing.

    In Jun/July, Obama should have solidified the Dem base instead of prancing around the world giving feel good speeches to foreigners. He should have not flipped on FISA and continued to criticize Bush administration, and connect with average Americans about their economic anxieties. He should have held town hall meetings with Hillary supporters to win them over with hard work and perseverance instead of going off to Hawaii for JFK type photo ops. He should have did the political rounds to make sure that the role call count would reflect him as the winner so that we can let the primary process play out normally. He did none of that. And now the party suffers.

    Such is the failure of leadership and the poor judgment of the faux messiah.

    The only constructive thing left to do now, is to vote down ticket democrats in congress. The Titanic that is the Obama campaign is on a certain collision course to doom.

      I am not stuck with anything because I am voting for McCain and Palin and every other Republican on the ticket. I already spoke to one guy running in my district and asked if he was supporting Obama. He said yes. I said well then you’re not getting my vote.

      We bitch and complain because Sarah Palin said something honest, Hillary was PERCEIVED as whining-she didn’t say she was whining. Then we say we’re going to vote downticket Dem’s who helped stick it to her. I am not voting for one stinkin’ Democrat this year. They all jumped ship on Hillary.     IT seems there are many seeking to continue to divide, particularly, with the new Repug troll comments. I don’t see Repug trolls here, hardly ever, but I do recognise diversion and division tacticts, by O supporters.
    First Senator Clinton is not running for anything, now at this time; support for her has been and will always be there, and everyone has a right to vote the way the want.

    For awhile now many of us have said McCain, no matter what, after the take over by Obama and friends.
    For awhile some have said they wouldn’t vote at all, or would vote third party candidate.

    But until Gov Pail was brought on the ticket; no one had made mention of note voting for McCain, because of hurting Hillary-Actually the old troll argument was, “If you vote for MCCain, you are going against Hillary and everything she stands for”

    Which looks like it has been re-structured now to include Gov Pail, and some divisive technique to pit women against each other.

    That won’t work with voters who decided to vote For MCCain, as a means of voting against Obama.

    This won’t work with voters who are disgusted with the Democratic Party.

    It will be a gamble for all democrats who partake of the Palin bashing; beyond the expected political back and forth, and for me that is including Senator Clinton. Don’t you think Obama knows if he doesn’t win, he will never have another chance at this, or any probably any other office, and he has always stuck me as the type that doesn’t mind taking folks down with him, and who better than to try and ruin any future chances for Senator Clinton and he will do it, he’s got that spite thing going.
    Senator Clinton is smart and will do political fighting but no further, she still has a career after this election, Obama doesn’t and knows it. Further I would suggest neither do his supporters who have gone to extremes in the party to deliver this to him. This is McCains last run at the office of President, he has nothing to lose. Obama will lose his whole future, as he loses and has also created a racial, and sexual division is this country that won’t be easily forgotten, or forgiven.
    Finally, I have always said vote, for whomever you want,, and I stick by that with one dose of reality added.

    If you write in and unknown, there is no way to count the vote. It is conglomerated with all the unknown write ins and shown in a statistical analysis-somewhere on election night.

    If you write in someone on a ticket who is known but no longer running, it shows but still is a 0 in count-there are no electoral representations for this- this tally to goes nowhere, save the polls.

    If you vote an independent on the ticket it will show up on count, but have no electoral representation.

    If you vote a known, it will show up on count, and have electoral representation.

    If you’ve read the press coverage of Sarah Palin, chances are you’ve heard plenty about her religious views and private family matters. If you want to know what drives Gov. Palin’s politics, and has intrigued America, read this.

    Every state has its share of crony capitalism, but Big Oil and the GOP political machine have taken that term to new heights in Alaska. The oil industry, which provides 85% of state revenues, has strived to own the government. Alaska’s politicians—in particular ruling Republicans—roll in oil campaign money, lavish oil revenue on pet projects, then retire to lucrative oil jobs where they lobby for sweetheart oil deals. You can love the free market and not love this.

    Alaskans have long resented this dysfunction, which has led to embarrassing corruption scandals. It has also led to a uniform belief that the political class, in hock to the oil class, fails to competently oversee Alaska’s vast oil and gas wealth, the majority of which belongs to the state—or rather, Alaskan citizens.

    And so it came as no surprise in 2004 when former Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski made clear he’d be working exclusively with three North Slope producers—ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips and BP—to build a $25 billion pipeline to move natural gas to the lower 48. The trio had informed their political vassals that they alone would build this project (they weren’t selling their gas to outsiders) and that they expected the state to reward them. Mr. Murkowski disappeared into smoky backrooms to work out the details. He refused to release information on the negotiations. When Natural Resources Commissioner Tom Irwin suggested terms of the contract were illegal, he was fired.

    What Mr. Murkowski did do publicly was instruct his statehouse to change the oil and gas tax structure (taxes being a primary way Alaskans realize their oil revenue). Later, citizens would discover this was groundwork for Mr. Murkowski’s pipeline contract—which would lock in that oil-requested tax package for up to 40 years, provide a $4 billion state investment, and relinquish most oversight.

    Enter Mrs. Palin. The former mayor of Wasilla had been appointed by Mr. Murkowski in 2003 to the state oil and gas regulatory agency. She’d had the temerity to blow the whistle on fellow GOP Commissioner Randy Ruedrich for refusing to disclose energy dealings. Mr. Murkowski and GOP Attorney General Gregg Renkes closed ranks around Mr. Ruedrich—who also chaired the state GOP. Mrs. Palin resigned. Having thus offended the entire old boy network, she challenged the governor for his seat.

    Mrs. Palin ran against the secret deal, and vowed to put the pipeline back out for competitive, transparent, bidding. She railed against cozy politics. Mr. Murkowski ran on his unpopular pipeline deal. The oil industry warned the state would never get its project without his leadership. Mrs. Palin walloped him in the primary and won office in late 2006. Around this time, news broke of a federal probe that would show oil executives had bribed lawmakers to support the Murkowski tax changes.

    Among Mrs. Palin’s first acts was to reinstate Mr. Irwin. By February 2007 she’d released her requirements for pipeline bidding. They were stricter, and included only a $500 million state incentive. By May a cowed state house—reeling from scandal—passed her legislation.

    The producers warned they would not bid, nor would anyone else. Five groups submitted proposals. A few months before the legislature awarded its license to TransCanada this July, Conoco and BP suddenly announced they’d be building their own pipeline with no state inducements whatsoever. They’d suddenly found the money.

    Mrs. Palin has meanwhile passed an ethics law. She’s tightened up oil oversight. She forced the legislature to rewrite the oil tax law. That new law raised taxes on the industry, for which Mrs. Palin is now taking some knocks, but the political background here is crucial.

    The GOP machine has crumbled. Attorney General Renkes resigned. Mr. Ruedrich was fined $12,000. Jim Clark—Mr. Murkowski’s lead pipeline negotiator—pleaded guilty to conspiring with an oil firm. At least three legislators have been convicted. Sen. Ted Stevens is under indictment for oil entanglements, while Rep. Don Young is under investigation.

    Throughout it all, Mrs. Palin has stood for reform, though not populism. She thanks oil companies and says executives who “seek maximum revenue” are “simply doing their job.” She says her own job is to be a “savvy” negotiator on behalf of Alaska’s citizens and to provide credible oversight. It is this combination that lets her aggressively promote new energy while retaining public trust.
    d-Today’s congressional Republicans could learn from this. The party has been plagued by earmarks, scandal and corruption. Most members have embraced the machine. That has diminished voters’ trust, and in the process diminished good, conservative ideas. It is no wonder 37 million people tuned in to Mrs. Palin’s convention speech. They are looking for something fresh.

    I hope you are not right about the damage in racial and gender relations. Maybe this will be an opening for fresh ideals and honest and open conversations to help bring the culture into the 21st century.
    Clinton has too much class to sink to the level of hate mongering that is spewing from some people. She has respect for her office as senator, for her gender and for the voters to do more than what normally takes place in campaigns.

    I asked this question on another blog but did not get an answer. How can the citizens of America get an amendment to the constitution passed that would limit the terms in office for Congress? You know those rascals won’t bring one up for the states to ratify so how can it be done in reverse?
