A New Low

A man who purports to be a medical doctor has this to say:

First, a little political mischief.

Sounds like fun!

Since being chosen as John’s McCain’s running mate, Sarah Palin has caused a hurricane in the media and blogosphere, where one rumor has it that her 4-month old son, Trig, born with Down syndrome, isn’t hers, but belongs to her 17-year-old daughter, Bristol. The theory goes that Palin covered up her daughter’s pregnancy for political reasons.

Hang on.

So let me get this straight. It’s Sarah Palin’s fault that Kos and Andrew Sullivan printed baldfaced lies about her? She’s to blame for the MSM rushing to air with preposterous lies? Hm. So I guess that she’s now an honorary Clinton….

…what troubles me about Palin’s fifth pregnancy is that she was given a choice whether to have Trig, a choice that, as a staunchly pro-life politician, she would deny other women.

OK, now I’m totally lost. This isn’t even a reach. This “doctor’s” contortionism could earn him a place in Cirque de Soleil. I didn’t know that Sarah Palin was an advocate of Chinese-style forced abortions. Oh wait, hold on..he’s saying that as a staunch pro-lifer it was hypocritical of her to carry the baby to term. Please explain…

We could ask, given that Palin had no doubts about seeing her pregnancy through, why she bothered to take a genetic test. Why not, as you might expect a woman in her position and with her outspoken beliefs to do, decline any testing or counseling? Of course, it seems very reasonable to want to know about the health of your baby and to have time to prepare (emotionally and otherwise) for a baby that may have a genetic disorder. But that doesn’t negate the fact that by having a blood test, Palin was given a choice about what to do.

So the fuck what?

And what she has chosen to do is fantastic. The love that she and her family have for Trig was clear in her speech at the Republican National Convention. It was inspirational to see a mother in a position of political power stand up for a child with special needs. But Palin was given a choice whether to have that child, something, if she had her way as a lawmaker, she wouldn’t give others. According to legal experts, should Roe v. Wade be overturned, some states could outlaw abortion for Down syndrome or other birth defects, and women wouldn’t have Palin’s choice.

So while I respect Palin’s decision to raise Trig, that’s all the respect she will get from me. I don’t see eye-to-eye with her on anything else: energy, guns, sex education and of course a woman’s right to choose. Her supporters say that Trig signals that she practices what she preaches. But her to decision to have him is also a sign of her hypocrisy.

So maybe this man is a competent physician. I really don’t know. Given what he’s written I don’t think he’s capable of tending to any life form but that’s just me. But as a journalist? Doctor, you’re now an honorary member of the nutroots. Good luck with that.

Seriously, women should be aghast at what this man has written. We (rightfully) criticize pharmacists who won’t fill prescriptions for birth control. A person whose religious or political beliefs inhibits their ability to provide medical care needs to find another line of work. Sarah Palin a hypocrite? If she were to deny other women the right to take the same blood test she did to determine whether her baby would be born with special needs then you’d have a case. To state the obvious for the doctor, that’s not what happened here.

Google this doctor. Write him a letter and state your grievances. Send a note to Joan Walsh and ask her whether she bothered to read this poorly written and argued piece of propaganda before posting it.

What ever happened to Palin’s family being off limits? Isn’t that what Salon’s overlord Obama has decreed?

Mad as hell? You bet. And it’s only getting worse.

  • Shiloh

Seems to me Sarah had no choice. No way she would have had an abortion. They are mad as hell because she WASN’T hypocritical.

    • Leisa

That physician is a complete idiot. How was Palin’s actions hypocritical and what does the good Doc. know about her positions on sex ed and birth control?

I think he assumes too much.

I would not want a physician like that attending me. What a biased ignorant lens he looks through.

      • Leisa

Oh geeze, I just read my post.

I need more coffee. How *were* Palin’s actions hypocritical…

      • http://! Clinton Fan

I question this “physician’s” Fristian-like eagerness to diagnose a patient not his, frankly.

Perhaps the woman had genetic tests because, unlike previous pregnancies, this child wasn’t growing as quickly as her others in the womb, and she simply wanted to know what she was in for–how DARE she try to prepare for the future!

        The nerve of her!!

I have to wonder if this assclown went to the Home Depot School of Medicine–I wouldn’t let him watch, or even walk, my dog!

        • Urban Hillbilly

Gov. Palin’s pregnancy was likely treated high risk for what ever reason, which is private to her!
A friend of mine gave birth to a beautiful boy with Down Syndrome. She had trouble from the beginning, needed medical intervention to save the pregnancy.

          • Irish1139

It was probably considered high risk because she is over 40. They automatically do amnio on woman who are 40 and over. They also operate on babies in the womb if there is a problem that can be determined and corrected. There are all kinds of reasons for amnio.

      • JDW

It should be noted that Palin DOES believe in abortion as an option when the mothers life is at stake. She stated this when she ran for Governor in 2006.

Also prenatal tests have value beyond deciding whether to abort a fetus with special needs. Knowing about any possible complications or potential special needs for the fetus, an expectant mother who wants to deliver her baby no matter what the complications is better prepared along with her medical support team to safely deliver the baby if they run all tests beforehand.

I seriously doubt this was written by a real doctor. First real obstitricians treat women with a whole range of belief on abortion. A full range of tests would be standard for most patients especially older women who have an increased likelihood of complications.

Most abortion providers occasionally deal with women who are staunchly anti-abortion but have found themselves in a position where they have no choice but to abort. Of the doctors I know who have treated these patients, they still have compassion and sympathy that life throws people terribly painful curve-balls at times. None of the doctors i have met would throw harsh judgement at an individual in public.

There are hypocritical abortion opponents out there who condemn other poarents who children become pregnant or come out as gay but when there children become pregnant or come out they claim a right to privacy.

I strongly disagree with Palin’s beliefs but I cannot find any inconsistencies between her states beliefs and how she has confronted such problems in her life.

    • tek

This guy is not a doctor. I got pregnant when I was forty. In the fourth month, amniosentisis (sp) is mandatory for older mothers-to-be. The baby could have complications that would need to be treated in the womb before childbirth. I was opposed to abortion. The doctors and nurses were vicious to me because I wouldn’t agree to abort the fetus if it were abnormal. (1989).

      • Pink Panther

I’m pro-choice and being pro-choice includes the choice to have a child.

What the hell is going on in Obama’s pro-choice political world. Do they now want to mandate that women have abortions when the government and doctors dictate, regardless of what the woman wants?

That is not what the original intent of pro-choice was all about.

      • Sammie

The doctors may make it sound like certain tests are mandatory, but I don’t believe they can make amniocentesis mandatory because it carries a risk to the infant. At 36 I refused the test for that very reason (all other tests were normal). I do agree however, that some doctors apply a lot of pressure to their patients to get every test imaginable (perhaps in part to avoid being sued later on).

My primary problem with what this so called doctor wrote is that he seems to use faulty logic. I certainly don’t agree with his conclusion.

    • red_sleeves

IF homosexuality is linked to a gene…. AND that gene can be screened for in utero…
AND pregnancies are aborted based on the positive result of this test…
THEN abortion will no longer be a choice because the argument will have changed.

Rosie O’Donnell will become pro-life over night.

you’ll have to write Barack and Michelle a letter too:

Five days after Obama said families are off limits, Michelle Obama feels it necessary to tell us all that the Obama’s will not have anymore kids because the “presidential race is enough additional responsibility”.

The Obama campaign is telling us that Sarah Palin is unfit to run for VP because she has too many young children. The Obama campaign is afferming and endorsing the sexism that has polluted the MSM, the blogs and the rhetoric of the democratic primary.

This announcement tells America that the Obama campaign has nothing left to stand on, nothing left to offer the voters and that they are truly desperate.

More importantly, it also finally unmasks the true origins of the smears spread about Palin’s daughter, the disgusting lies about Palin’s newly born son and the appalling sexism Americans have had to endure over the last year as nothing more than Obama campaign talking points.

Now we just have to wait for Obama to say, “That is not the Michelle I knew”.

That sounds very sexist to me. Michelle Obama’s comments are a subtle way to say the Palin is not qualified to be VP because she has too many children. This just reeks of the misogynistic and character attacks that have permeated the campaign that the Obama’s waged against Clinton.

Women need to reject this kind of thinking that Michelle espouses. We will never make progress if we are pigeon holed in that narrow world view of women and their place is in the home caring for their children. Palin has a husband that is a devoted father, it is not as if she does not have help.

Women should have the right to control how many children they have, but the fact that a woman chooses to have children should not disqualify her from any level of employment or service.

Important to remember that Michelle fought against the Partial Birth Abortion Ban in Illinois.

She was so against it she held fundraisers to help get the Bill defeated in the Illinois State Legislature.

To the best of my knowledge, it is the only political cause she ever advocated publicly.

What’s that really say about her respect for life?

      Just sayin’ . . .

      • LandOLincoln

There’s no such thing as “partial birth abortion.”

It’s a RW lie calculated to trap pro-choice Democrats like Wes Clark and–while I hate to put the duplicitous creep into the same category as my beloved general–Barack Obama.

I repeat: there is no such thing as “partial birth abortion.” The actual procedure is called “intact dilation and extration,” and it’s very, very rarely performed. In fact, four years ago when I tolled the doctors and nurses in the university department of Ob/Gyn where I was then employed, none of the doctors had ever performed the procedure, and only one resident knew someone who had.

However, virtually to a man or woman, they answered my question in those exact words: “There’s no such thing as partial birth abortion.”

The ID&E procedure is generally performed in the case of a woman who hasn’t had good prenatal care and who is found–literally at the last moment–to be carrying a fetus with a fatal anomaly such as anencephaly and/or hydrocephaly, making a normal vaginal delivery out of the question, and for whom a c-section is not practical or even possible.

Did he make the Sarah decision long ago? Was he making little “Bill Clinton like” sly references to her?

His “drill here and now” campaign gets all its credibility right from an expert in that field on the ticket. That appears to have been a major consideration but sure, the pink Harley is cool too.

Michelle is saying no more kids for her and Barky because

Michelle Obama says she and Democrat Barack Obama probably won’t have any more children because the presidential race is enough additional responsibility.

“I think I’m done,” she told TV talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in an interview. “I think our third child is this campaign.”

    Then mentions

Michelle Obama, 44, also agreed with her husband’s response to the news that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s teenage daughter was pregnant.

“This shouldn’t be an issue for political discussion,” Michelle Obama said.

So Michelle slamming Palin for the size of her family then says commenting on her family is off limits. She expects us to swallow this two-faced hypocritical bullshit?

Of course, how the hell OLD is she? 44? She’d better get moving if she wants any more kids–she’s getting a little LONG IN THE TOOTH to even be worrying about children. The older I get the more conservative my thinking becomes. I’ve outgrown my liberal leanings especially when it comes to ALLOWING cocaine/alcoholic addicts in the White House. As a DEmocrat I ranted and raged against Bush and his whole administration and his addiction created lots of bad thinking and actions.
    Obama is exactly the same.

If anyone has ever lived with an addict you KNOW what I mean. They take NO responsibility for their BAD behaviour even after they supposedly say they are sober.

Obama is a cocaine ADDICT and he needs to SHOW his medical records IMMEDIATELY!

80% of most crimes are drug and alcoholic related- and that’s just with THOSE who get caught because of some bad behaviour.

    • Fuck you Barack Obama

I’m afraid the deep truths about Obama will never come out at least into the mainstream. He is being protected probably for the same reason he was allowed to steal the nomination. I think it has something to do with the fear of riots his people injected into this process long ago. Fortunately the GOP are not wimps like the Democrats and don’t give a crap about this.

    • Liz B

There is something deeply disturbing that is going on in this country. I was emailed some voter fraud reports from PUMA friends, and in Denver the obama Delegates threatened the Clinton supporters that not only money would be withheld and possibly a loss of elected positions, but the actual votes were changed in almost every state. The final tallies were altered by the DNC after the morning vote. This election in November is probably going to be fixed and there seems to be nothing we can do. If indeed Obama is still a drug user, we will never find out. For some reason there is a lot of money invested in this man and it has been invested in him since 2004, before he became a U.S. Senator. (George Soros met with him and Howard Dean, donated money to help him get elected SO HE COULD RUN FOR PRESIDENT!) WHY???? We need to prepare ourselves for the worst outcome and a subsequent Revolution or uprising like we have never seen in this country. Thanks for the Change Barack.

Yes there is something we can do.

If McCain is elected in a landslide, they can’t cheat.

What 0bama is worried about is keeping the election close. If he can keep it close, the better able he is to cheat.

We must elect McCain in a landslide. No other option is available.

        • Patrick Walker

The Republicans have been building caging lists and working to ensure that voting gets harder for the traditional Democratic base.

People have been warning about this for years, and like Cassandra, the Obamabots won’t listen. They think that with all their new “voters”, they can overcome any GOP chicanery.

For example, in one podcast, some activist in a midwestern state said that the GOP submitted a listing of people to strike from the voter rolls just a few weeks after the caucuses. The fear is that there are going to be a lot of complaints along the lines of “well, I voted in the primaries!” only to find they cannot vote in November.

All McCain has to do is keep it close. The Bradley Effect, caging, and the first-past-the-post nature of the electoral college will let him win in the same fashion as the GOP has traditionally won. By counting on smaller states and their electoral vote power.

        • fluffy bunny

The bigger the win for McCain/Palin, the better chance that Howard Dean and Harry Reid will find themselves out of their current jobs. That’s change I could really believe in!

He’s about to crawl ouf of his own skin to get to it. He needs to stop worrying about the White House and look into a good rehab.

Um, it’s actually the law for pregnant women to have a blood test around the 4th or 5th month to check for a variety of possible issues. These blood tests reveal elevated levels in the mother’s bloodstream that can point out issues with the baby. If they find something questionable, they carry on with an amniocentesis. With my 2nd child that blood test was optional. My the time my 3rd one came around it was mandatory.

    • John

Well yeah. If Sarah Palin had NOT had those tests, she would have been accused of endangering the life of her child. This is just ridiculous. Sarah Palin is pro-life, and when she found out that her unborn child would have serious problems, she chose….to keep it. And that’s hypocritical HOW, exactly?

My party has dug itself a lovely little hole to jump into, hasn’t it?

Congratulations, President McCain and Vice President Palin. But remember, you don’t really deserve much of the credit for your victory. Almost all of it must go to the DNC and it’s handmaidens in the media, who worked diligently to destroy the candidacy of the woman who would have beaten you soundly in November.

    • tarma

At the age of 38, I refused all tests – there are a significant number of “false negatives” and inconclusive results for the initial blood test. This, in turn, can lead to more tests which may, or may not, produce accurate results. Physicians often coerce or frighten pregnant woman into these tests, or present them as “routine”. Regardless, it’s all about choice, and Palin’s personal reproductive choices are none of anyone’s business.

      • Patrick Walker

… but if she ever tries to impose a restriction on others … watch out.

Just because she is from an affluent family that is able to care for a special needs child should never be forgotten by her or the “pro-Life” movement. A movement, I just have to add, sees no problem with sending people off to die in retarded wars and executing people.

I still believe abortions are primarily driven by economics. If the middle class is getting ravaged by corporate America, I shudder to think how bad it ‘s for the ever growing underclass.

        • Patrick Walker

I should have added this line.

Palin had a TRUE choice regarding her pregnancy. A comfortable job, from an upper middle class family.

Women not found in similar situations have the illusion of choice and usually that choice is imposed by the size of their paycheck.

    • John

I totally respect your wife’s (may she rest in peace) decision to carry the baby to full term, but frankly I don’t get the response “your point?” when told that the baby had a chance to be born with Down’s Syndrome. All the doctor was doing was passing on information, which he was legally bound to do. I wonder, if your wife didn’t want to know about the condition of the fetus, why was she in the doctor’s office in the first place?

The doctor was CORRECT in asking if your wife wanted to come to full term, was completely INCORRECT in suggesting that “abortion is the best option” (BTW, I’m not calling you a liar or anything, but I’ve met many, many doctors over the years and I can’t imagine any of them who take their oaths seriously RECOMMENDING abortion- at the most basic of levels, it puts them in a dangerous place legally.)

I wonder about your wife’s social issues if her response to the doctor was to tell her essentially “fuck off.”

          social issues??? social issues????
please. the woman was just told her baby had a great chance of having downs syndrome and the best option is abortion. the doctor is lucky he didn’t get kicked between the legs too.

i wonder about your social issues John! if you consider a doctor/patient appointment about the health of your child a SOCIAL ISSUE…. well, that’s just creepy! this isn’t bush talking about obgyn’s loving their patients for crying out loud!

            Idiocracy08 My Friend,

Progressives do under stand. They have lived insulated lives and are in the safe haven of decent people with good manners.

Thus, they are ignorant of the efficacy and sound effect of a solid ass-kicking in response to their witty bon mots.

I have no such shyness myself. Having, early in life, learned that all things have dramatic consequences; hence, while I am by inclination and conditioning affable, I take the weather personally.

One of the fundamental precepts of pro-choice values is that a woman’s reproductive decisions are personal and private, and should not be judged or second guessed by politicians, pundits or anyone else. It’s increasingly clear that, for many, this only applies when a woman chooses to terminate a pregnancy. Bearing a child to term, having “too many” children, or living a lifestyle that fully embraces both family and work outside of the home – these choices have somehow become fair game in the ongoing assault against women. It’s also heartbreakingly apparant that the feminist and progressive movements have become restrictive and intolerant of choices that are not in alignment with the beliefs and values espoused by their leadership.

There is a great line from The Best Man (Gore Vidal) that ends the piece…sums up the situation PERFECTLY…..

    • 935 Lies

Thanks for reminding me that Vidal wrote THE BEST MAN.

It’s on my list of Mandatory Election Season Flicks (most on DVD now, but some are still VHS).

I still love, “A Face in the Crowd.” Whoever thought up, recruited and prepped/positioned the Nothingburger Obama must have paid close attention to this Kazan work.

  • Paul3triple

Mechelle needs to be slammed for what she said. I am also pissed that after Hillary basically took the mantle of the womens movement and made it her movement she is going to campaign and try to deny Palin.

Honestly, hillary will not be able to win this for obama. They can send her across the US and i think alot of her supporters are going to lose respect for her. Instead of standing up she bowed and is now taking orders.

I love Hillary voted for her in PA and she is the reason i got into this election.
You guys can say the party is holding her hostage. BUT seriously get a grip. If she cannot stand up to her party for the disgusting treatment of her and women, and NOW Sarah Palin then maybe she is not the leader i had thought she would be.
You cannot preach of breaking a glass ceiling then when another conservative comes along try and destroy or defeat her because she is not a liberal.
Frankly, i think Hillary will back fire on Barrack.

I know you guys will make excuse for Hill and call me a troll for not worshipping her feet. The fact is i thought she was alot tougher than she has shown.

    • Fuck you Barack Obama

I want Hillary to run in ’12 after we help defeat Barky in this election. I don’t worship her at all. She has reasons for doing what she is doing now just as I have reasons for being a Republican for a day on November 4.

      • Dawnelle Leona Del Puma

and it’s getting harder to be honest

I don’t want to be preached to or talked down to by either party

    • John House

The problem is one pointed out in an earlier post here: Palin has her party to defend her. Hillary was stuck in the cold alone, with her own Party Elites stabbing at her from all sides. There is only so much one person can weather without going insane.

      • tarma

Not only is Palin’s party defending her, Palin actually paid homage to Ferraro and Clinton when she was first placed on the ticket. Her remarks were gracious, and McCain was by her side nodding in agreement. In contrast with the DNC pod-people, the Republican audience had the grace to forgo jeers and booing, and offer applause.
Hillary is keeping her word, and is compelled to suck it up and deal with it so that she can live to fight another day.

        • Patrick Walker

I think the Republicans saw how ugly the Democrats were to Hillary.

It’s possible the GOP see Obama for who he is. Too bad Democrats don’t.

        • http://chriss chris

I have supported Hillary for many years as a NY resident. I met her in person at a conference in Syracuse NY about 6 years ago. I was a loyal supporter from that day forward. She was impressive, kind and willing to talk to each of us after the speech she gave. (about 100 people). I had my picture taken with her and treasure that memory. I couldn’t wait for her to run for Pres. and hated what happened to her. I agree she was treated poorly and I have said so numerous times. But now, when everything is technically over for her as far as campaigning for herself, she is really starting to upset my trust in her. I realize she has her own agenda and obviously wants to be a big player in the Dem party, however she could very carefully absent herself from big time support of OB if she chose to. If she starts trashing the only woman candidate for 2008, I will not be a loyal supporter anymore. She knows the score on sexism and she needs to back off doing any of that to Palin. There are numerous ways she can help the campaign if she is being forced or whatever, but if she doesn’t have the courage or ethics to resist hitting Palin in a sexist way, then I will never vote for her again including as Senator of my state. I am more than emotional to even have to say this. Sorry but I am beginning to feel betrayed and needed to express it.

          • Urban Hillbilly

Hillary will not attack Palin in a sexist way. Take it to the bank! Don’t worry.

Then she should renounce the party and leave. I will be tearing down my Hillary sign tonight

        • wodiej

I took my Hillary sign down when McCain announced Gov. Sarah Palin would be his VP.

Hillary Clinton is losing alot of respect among women voters. Maybe she wasn’t the right person to be President if she would rather support a racist, american hating, dishonest lazy person for President in Barack Obama. Especially after he, his campaign and the Democratic party trashed them. I would tell them all to kiss my ass. Even if she can’t publicly denounce him now, she could make an excuse why she can’t campaign for him either to get the female vote.

    • Caya

I agree with you – I wanted Hillary to ditch the party all together during the primary. It’s a real disappointment and then seeing GF this morning on Fox saying she will support the dems. Very upsetting. Palin stood up to her party – why won’t Hillary?

    • http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/pledge-to-vote-against-obama-in-the-general-election Mary Cusack

If Hillary can’t stand up for another woman being trashed then I was wrong to vote for her.

      • mimi

All of you Hillary bashers are WRONG!

And you’re being flat-out naive. That’s not the way politics works.

Maybe because she’s the Senator from my state, I care a little bit about have 2 senators who are equally able to carry out their duties. It’s no skin off your back if she is ostracized by the Democratic Congress and unable to function and do her job for the state of NY. How cavalier of all of you with the lives of fellow citzens, who, BTW, had to undergo a terrorist attack which still bears the visible scars of our great state.

0bama alienated Hillary and Bill Clinton from their once loyal base of AAs. They are trying more to repair those bridges more than getting 0bama elected. The Party is in shambles. But it will only be after his defeat that all those who are quietly stewing will be able to regain control and kick Dean, Pelosi and 0bama out. Do you think that there aren’t others as equally pissed as we are. Congresswoman Tubbs is dead now because was so angry about it.

You all need to get a grip!

But what I don’t get is since nothing is going to get any of you to vote 0bama, why do you care? Do you not trust that there are plenty of disaffected Dems who feel the same way and will go into the voting booth and vote McCain? Hillary is not going to change any minds. So relax and let the Repubs do their job.

And let Hillary regain a base that she will need in 2012. With all the stuff on 0bama that is going to come out, 0bama will go down in flames.

Also, once that happens, and once she proves that she is Party loyal, she will be in a better position to break away from the Dem leadership after 0bama gets defeated. If she does it now, she’ll be labeled a sore loser. Once 0bama is ripped to shreds then she can challenge the leadership that made the wrong choice and pissed off their entire base.

Stop letting your 0bama-hatred make you lose all sense of proportion. You all would be terrible soldiers in a war. You’re all emotion and no mental acuity. It takes a cool head to triumph in battle.

        • Lester

          Mimi,
I totally agree with you. Hillary needs to rebuild the “party.” Her hands are tied. Once BO loses the election, she will prove that she is a team player and rebuild her support base for 2012. If she diss BO and when he does lose, everyone will blame Hillary for his lost because BO and his idiot followers cannot accept the fact that the “king” is nothing but a man in an empty suit.

          • Thinker

            great points.

The minute Hillary speaks out against Obama, she will get blamed for his loss.

I’m telling you, there are people out there who actually believe that Hillary is a racist, people who bought into the lies.

Hillary needs to lay low, and wait for the GOP to expose the fraud that is Obama.

        • Andy

          MIMI:

THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXCELLENT COMMENT !!! I SECOND YOU 100%. THAT IS REALITY AND ONE NEEDS TO BE SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND WHAT’S GOING HERE AN HOW POLITICS ARE PLAYED.

PEOPLE PLEASE, STOP BASHING HRC. THAT IS REALLY SILLY. SHE HAS TO MOVE AND POSITION HERSELF TO BEST HELP HER CONSTITUENCIES IN THE FUTURE WITHIN THE GAME.

        • http://chriss chris

Mimi, She does not need to utter one sexist word against Palin in order to carry out her support of party/O. That is where she will lose me because it is not necessary for her to do that. If she does, she is the biggest hypocrit of all and she will lose my vote forever. She needs to show the women of this country that there is a line she won’t step over. I am a NY resident and have supported her for many years, but she will lose me and others in our group if she does that. I can live with some stuff in order for her to take back the party, but not ever trashing a woman in a sexist way. Not ever.

        • Thinker

          Great post Mimi!!!

I know a lot of people are upset, but please, let’s not bash Hillary.

She had to fight for everything, she fought hard for those 18 million votes, while fighting the Obama camp against the racist smears, fighting the media agaisnt misogyny, fighting people in her own party who tried to get rid of her and Bill.

And I agree with you again Mimi. She will rebuild her support with African-Americans. That race card thrown at her by the Obama camp was low, but she will Rise again.

        • NomNomNom

          thx mimi, this the TRUTH

      • Andy

        MARY CUSAK:

THAT SPEAKS VOLUMES ALREADY. HATS OFF TO HRC.

  • JimDawg

I say go get a second opinion. Who gives a damn about some person (doctor??).

This all sounds like the same old Dem crap. Palin’s personal choices should be accepted at face value. I for one will not be voting based upon whether or not she had the baby. This shows how desperate the Yobama campaign has become.

    Too funny.

  • bmc

First they’re slyly insinuating they’ll hold Bush accountable for his crimes…

[yeah. right. Barry just said he didn't want his first term all messed up with trying to hold Bush accountable, but whatevah]

Now, Michelle Obama comes out with the nonsense that she’s not going to have any more babies because it’s too much of a burden to have a lot of children and be in the White House, but it’s all off limits!

My God, they’re just so fucking transparent!

Now, this: Obama’s going to send Hillary Clinton out to be his “palinator” on their “Sarah” problem.

It’s utterly laughable. This WILL NOT HELP OBAMA. It’s only going to highlight that he should have picked HILLARY CLINTON as his VP.

    They are truly desperate.

    http://althouse.blogspot.com/2008/09/obama-to-dispatch-female-surrogates.html

    Hillary Is… the Palinator?

Senator Barack Obama will increasingly lean on prominent Democratic women to undercut Gov. Sarah Palin and Senator John McCain, dispatching Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to Florida on Monday and bolstering his plan to deploy female surrogates to battleground states, Obama advisers said Thursday….

With the McCain-Palin team courting undecided female voters, including some who backed Mrs. Clinton in the Democratic primaries, Obama aides said they were counting on not only Mrs. Clinton but also Democratic female governors to rebut Ms. Palin — and, by extension, Mr. McCain. Those governors include Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas.

    • cpl

It will be interesting to see how Hillary handles the democrat’s “Palin Problem”. Damned if she does and damned if she doesn’t. That is the results of putting a party ahead of the nation for political purposes.

      • Lark

She wouldn’t be damned if she doesn’t. She’s a Senator. I don’t know why she would. I mean I know why but I don’t see why she can’t refuse. I feel she’s being diminished.

        • cpl

She will be damned by the Obama that she has endorsed if she doesn’t.

        • cpl

She will be damned by Obama and the democratic party she has endorsed if “SHE DOESNT”.

          • Lark

I don’t see it that way. she has 18 million votes. I think each vote is valuable. She should consider the value of the votes that were cast for her and walk proud into the Senate and never ever speak to Barack again.

          • NoBAma

Hillary will never say a bad thing about Sarah palin-she will attack John Mc cain’s policies, that’s all. She likes palin. She reminds her of her younger self.

    • http://www.theindependentview.com Matthew Weaver

Shame on Hillary if she doesn’t speak out on all of this trash.

      • NomNomNom

You mean like McCain did on her behalf?

        • mimi

          Thank you!

I’m beginning to suspect that there are a lot of Hillary-haters in drag on this board.

          She’s in a no-win situation.

Even if she were to speak out against 0bama what would that accomplish other than alienating her from the Party.

Voters need to grow up and figure some things out for themselves. We’re in this situation today because there are way too many low information voters needing to be led by their nose.

And where has that gotten us?

Right now we have the blind leading the stupid!

          • Thinker

I feel the same way about the Hillary haters in disguise.

Either way, she’s going to be attacked.

If she does speak out against Palin’s POLICIES, people will attack her and say that she is no different than those sexist attacks against Palin.

If she says nothing about Palin’s POLICIES, people will say that she helped ensure a win for the Republicans.

Damned if she does, damned if she doesn’t. That is what it means to be Hillary Clinton.
But it’s okay. She isn’t going anywhere and the people who truly support her, through the good times and bad, aren’t going anywhere either.

You are so on point today Mimi: The real blame is on these low-information voters who fell for that con-artist.

    • NomNomNom

He should send Joe Biden instead, as Biden is her counterpart and has an excellent record of his own on women’s issues: Biden wrote and is the leading supporter of VAWA, the violence against women act.
      http://biden.senate.gov/issues/issue/?id=975b0cf4-ce25-42cc-b63d-072fb81e8618
      Also, his sponsored legislation includes:
S 3061: A bill to authorize appropriations for fiscal years 2008 through 2011 for the Trafficking Victims Protection Act of 2000, to enhance measures to combat trafficking in persons, and for other purposes.
      S. 2756: A bill to amend the National Child Protection Act of 1993 to establish a permanent background check system.
S.Res 414: A resolution designating January 2008 as “National Stalking Awareness Month”.
S 2279: A bill to combat international violence against women and girls.
S Res 343: A resolution designating October 19, 2007, as “National Mammography Day”.
S 1738: A bill to establish a Special Counsel for Child Exploitation Prevention and Interdiction within the Office of the Deputy Attorney General, to improve the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, to increase resources for regional computer forensic labs, and to make other improvements to increase the ability of law enforcement agencies to investigate and prosecute predators.
S 1711: A bill to target cocaine kingpins and address sentencing disparity between crack and powder cocaine.
S 368: A bill to amend the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968 to enhance the COPS ON THE BEAT grant program, and for other purposes.
S 1515: A bill to establish a domestic violence volunteer attorney network to represent domestic violence victims.
      S Res 102 & S Res 93: A resolution supporting the goals of “International Women’s Day”.
      S. Res 24 A resolution designating January 2007 as “National Stalking Awareness Month”.
All of these are just a part of what he has done in the past year and half. The same year Palin has been governor of Alaska.
I am a Clinton supporter, now third party candidate voter. I will never vote for Biden because he removed his name from the Mi ballot. This offends me even more than his acceptance of the vp nomination in this corrupt rigged election season. I sincerely hope Obama and Biden both get what’s coming to them. Likewise I will never vote for Obama, Richardson, Edwards, or even Kucinich who tried to take his name from the Mi ballot.
There are a great many areas in which I do not agree with Biden. However, any suggestion that Biden does not have one of the best records in the senate in supporting women’s rights is completely false. He also has an excellent record of supporting abortion rights and a good record of environmental legislation. He does not need a surrogate.

      • http://dontcallmesweetie.blogspot.com/ Blu

Strange, Clinton was bashed for praising President Lyndon Johnson for passing the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (because LBJ was white). Now we are suppose to support Biden because of his fight for woman’s rights? Is this a double standard or are men just naturally more capable of defending women’s rights?

        • NomNomNom

Ugh. This is not a question of double standards. It is a question about reality. The reality is that Biden has done and probably will do a crapload more for women’s rights than Palin.
I did not say that I evaluate Biden’s record to be better than ALL women’s records (for instance HRC’s), or even that I believe voting records should be the only qualifier in choosing a candidate: you’ll note I said the exact opposite above.
But I don’t believe in distorting people’s records either, and there seems to be a whole lot of that going around: voting for a wingnut does not improve women’s standing, so sorry. Having a wingnut pres, even a woman, does not indicate pay equity or social equity for women.
I don’t think BHO is the f#cking democrat nominee, and I’ve switched to independent anyway: I wouldn’t vote for him if h#ll froze solid. But I count the loss of Biden in this election as a real blow for women.

  • Vince

Using this guy’s logic, why would anyone look at weather forcasts? Is that hypocritical since you aren’t going to do anything about the weather anyway?

Sounds like that doctor got his license from BUV (bayou university of voodoo) same place Obama got his advise when he voted against the Illinois “Born Alive” bill which would have protected babies who are born alive even after an attempted but failed abortion. These people are not civilized.

Remember that in Ozbama, the sky is green and the grass is blue. Say whatever you want, no matter how convoluted, and the O-bots will agree! Some of these people must live in such rarified atmospheres that everyone they talk to is an Obamaniac. And the “great unwashed” around them? Oh, they don’t vote. Or enough O-bots can be created to win for Barack. Or the elections can be rigged just like in Chicago. Wrong on all counts, suckers!

    • Lark

Confuse them with doublespeak and they’ll cling to ‘charisma.’

That’s why McCain’s theme began with ‘Straight Talk.’

Obama’s speech is the absolute negative of straight talk.

  • Perry Logan

Given the nature of the Obama camp, we can expect even lower lows as the campaign goes on.

Hillary had poeple in her party to defend her as well. Sure, poeple were against her in her party as well and the media destroyed her.
The fact is though, if she would have had the guts to knock Obama down the way palin did she would have won.
She half-stepped throughout the entire race. She was more worried about what her party would think than what america would think.
I think Palins speech was soo good for one reason, she took on obama in a way no one has and probably will. I wanted to hear that.
In the primarys i think alot of poeple would have wanted top hear hillary really lay him down.

We can talk about party, the fact is the Clintons are damn near a party unto themselves. Let us not forget, Dems never liked them much in the 90′s. They bailed on him during all of the Ken Starr BS.
Clinton owes nothing to the dems. She should have realized that. Now she is running to florida to attack the women who has a shot at that glass ceiling we all tryed to break like an indentured servant to Barrack.
She has much more class than that and it would be nice to see it.

Also, notice the difference in class between O and Mac. That speech last night he gave a nom-partisan speech and he even attacked his own party for their failures. He also made and ad to congratulate obama. What did they do? Went on the highest rated news-show to steal his thunder and then released a scthing memo at the end.
Dems, have really lost me. Forever.

If Hillary had displayed any intestinal fortitude and stood up to Obama from the beginning, she would have the Republicans voting for HER instead of the Democrats now voting for Palin. She should never have hobbled Bill.

The fact is though, if she would have had the guts to knock Obama down the way palin did she would have won.

      - I disagree. It’s easy to say that, but as a Black voter, I’m telling you, there are soooooo many people who bought into the Obama’s campaign racist attack, and the media was right there fanning the flames!!!! There are voters, right this very minute, who believe that Hillary is a White woman who feels entitled to take the nomination from a Black man.

It has to play out this way, so people can finally see, for once and for all, that Obama is a fraud.

And those same people who were calling Hillary a racist will be the same people coming back to her, begging her to uphold Democratic policies.

There is now talk of having Bill and Hillary Clinton go to Black churches to mend the damage that has been done.

“It takes a Clinton to clean up after a Bush AND an Obama”

How f’ing absurd can anyone get ?!! This man claims to be a doc and Salon deemed it fit to print this crap because he has an MD against his name ? No surprise there actually…

Blood tests and ultra-sounds are done for a variety of reasons apart from determining fetal defects – like checking for a multiple pregnancy and figuring out risks to the mother. And this quack seems to believe that if you are pro-life means you should not even go for a blood test ?

The so-called “progressives” REALLY hate the disabled. The ONLY correct decision in their minds was for Palin to have aborted the pregnancy.

All their yapping will do is energize the disabled community to vote GOP, just as they did in 2004 over the Schiavo case.

  • yttik

If this man was a competent physician, he wouldn’t be questioning Palin’s decision to get tested at 4 months. It is standard operating precedure to test mothers over a certain age so that doctors know what they are dealing with for the rest of the pregnancy and the delivery. Babies with genetic disorders often have special needs both in utero and during delivery. People may have noticed that Palin’s baby was born pre-mature, that’s one of those factors doctors want to be prepared for.

  • yttik

“But her to decision to have him is also a sign of her hypocrisy.”

I say when you can get pregnant and become a hands on, experienced authority, have your say. Otherwise shut your damn mouth. They are GRASPING FOR STRAWS! Who gives a RATS ASS why Palin had a genetic test?? Uh, maybe she just wanted to be prepared.

    • NomNomNom

Don’t look now but the same people who are against abortion are also frequently against birth control.
Repubs are trying RIGHT NOW to declare the pill and IUD’s as abortificents. Pharmacists are legally allowed to refuse to dispense your legal prescription. It took doctors 8 FREAKING YEARS to agree to sterilize me: I started trying to get sterilized at age 18 and didn’t succeed until I was 26.

Bush administration republicans. In other words, morons. Neither McCain nor Palin have shown any tendency to use their political positions to attack birth control. McCain has a pro-life voting record but I doubt he’s authored any anti-abortion laws. He’s much more interested in knocking corrupt bastards over the head and hopefully hounding them out of government that going after bedroom issues. It seems Palin shares that tendency as well.

And after the last 8 years they will have plenty of corrupt assholes to go after. Really, they are going to be too busy to worry overly much about abortion.

  • Paul3triple

well again, this story of the Dr. is absurd, their saying she should have aborted the baby. I mean, this is my point. I believe in life and choice and quite frankly they ar the same thing with different political parties behind them framing the issue to hurt the other.
I think women who have children should give birth. Of course there are cicumstances when there could/should be an abortion. My mother had an abortion.
However, kids need schooled by their parents much better and taught better responsibility and accountability. I was 18 when my wife had my first kid. No way would we walk away from something our irresponsibility created. It is our job as humans to care for what we create and nurture it to grow beautifully. and to make sure the # of aborts is less and less. Make sure familys can get the help they need and deserve.
Yes, i am pro life but in the end it is all about a choice.
I find it hard as well to hear Barry say kids should live up to their god-given potential and at the same time vote to have a born baby let to die.
Birth begins at conception. If you believe in abortion fine. But a baby unborn is a baby nonetheless.

    • http://! Clinton Fan

I think if you do not have a vagina and a womb, your comments should be given the weight they deserve, which is close to none. It actually IS none of your fucking business. And as a woman, it’s really none of MY fucking business either, because it’s not MY WOMB we’re talking about.

Women don’t tell you what to do with your balls and your vas deferens, you have no business telling them what to do with THEIR reproductive organs, either, unless you really DO want the same treatment. In that case, you might be subject to gelding should you behave badly, or if you happen to exhibit some genetic defects that society doesn’t want passed along to the next generation.

Palin decided that she wanted to have her child, and that’s HER BUSINESS. HER decision. If she’d made a different call, it would STILL be HER business.

Not yours, not mine, not anyone else’s.

I always thought that someone that was pro-life chooses to be pro-life, which is pro-choice. It only becomes an issue if you take a stand. She had a chance to make abortions stricter in Alaska as Governor and she didn’t(I read that in a letter from a posting of a letter of someone from her hometown that actually cuts her down). She believes it is a personal choice. So in reality she is pro-choice.

  • Sojourner

This issue of pro-choice v. pro-life has always struck me a bit odd, perhaps because I am a gay male and it’s simply 99% unlikely that I will ever be a parent so by default, this is not a personal decision for me and my thinking is I shouldn’t really be making decisions about things that are not any of my business(i.e. a woman’s right to choose).
In regards to this doctor and his/her views on Sarah Palin where “she was given a choice whether to have Trig, a choice that, as a staunchly pro-life politician, she would deny other women. People tend to forget that the right to choose is just that, it’s a choice. Just because one is pro-choice doesn’t necessarily mean that the person will choose to have an abortion. In Palin’s case, seeing as she is staunchly pro-life, upon finding out that her fifth child would be a special needs I doubt there was any hesitation. That’s the difference between pro-lifers and pro-choicers. The pro-lifers simply have the child; In Palin’s mind she wasn’t “given a choice”; there was no choice to make as God made the choice for her.

  • Paul3triple

Sojourner,”That’s the difference between pro-lifers and pro-choicers. The pro-lifers simply have the child; In Palin’s mind she wasn’t “given a choice”; there was no choice to make as God made the choice for her.”

    That is a beautiful statement.

Any doctor worth his or her salt would want tests, especially on any women past a certain age.

I disagree with your interpretation of this Doctor’s argument. He is saying that Palin exercised her own personal choice to continue her pregnancy, and her staunch position as a pro-lifer would deny other women the same right to exercise their own personal choice. And he has a point. I think Palin’s position of prolife is radical even for the Republicans. To deny a woman who has been a victim of a crime the ability to have an abortion as a result of a pregnancy from a rape or as a victim of incest is an extreme punishment to the victim, its not affecting the person who committed the crime. I don’t agree with punishing the victim of a horrendous crime. I want that choice, but Palin’s view would deny me that choice. I think that is what the doctor is getting too. Palin had a legal opportunity to exercise who own choice, but she would deny other women that same right.

    • wodiej

you all apparently have not schooled yourselves properly on Palin’s exact stance. SHE is pro LIFE. HOWEVER, she feels every woman has a right to a CHOICE. I don’t believe a female should have to give birth to a child from a crime, incest, rape or otherwise.

    • http://snunes.blogspot.com Susan Nunes

The subtext is he, like many so-called “progressives,” HATES the disabled. Nobody in his or her right mind would have a Down syndrome baby. DS children cost too much money, they are too difficult to raise, etc., despite the fact they can live good lives and their life expectancy has roughly doubled in the past 25 years.

NEVER underestimate the prejudice by the so-called “left” against the disabled.

So-called “eugenic” abortion is offensive to many, and for good reason.

    • http://snunes.blogspot.com Susan Nunes

No, that isn’t what he is saying. The farce of the whole issue is Palin has four other kids, and NOBODY makes any kind of serious argument about her having had those children.

It’s because she brought into the world a child she KNEW was disabled that has the nutroots in a tizzy. They HATE, DESPISE the disabled (the Schiavo case was classic in revealing their prejudices). They believe she should have aborted this pregnancy because a DS child has no right to live in their utilitarian, twisted world.

  • Bridgette

Maybe I’m a little slow, but I never even knew until recently that women were having abortions simply because they found out that their child would be born with a disability. I’m 100,000,000% against that! That is a total and complete abuse of that right.

Abortions should be for UNPLANNED pregnancies…not when I woman plans a pregnancy, wants a child, and finds out it has a disability. If you had a child and got in a car accident and s/he was then disabled would you kill him or her?!?

Overall, partial birth abortions should be illegal…if you didn’t plan a pregnancy you’ll know far enough ahead of time that you’re pregnant so that you can get an abortion in a timely matter and not wait that long.

Obama told Planned Parenthood in 2007 that the first thing he will do as Pres. is sign the Freedom and Choice Act. This would take away any and all restrictions on abortions, it would force doctors and nurses to perform abortions otherwise lose their jobs, and there would be no laws against federal funding of it….which means if you pay an income tax, you would in part be paying for an abortionist to perform an abortion.

I’m pro-choice, I really am. But I’d rather Roe v Wade be overturned than have the Freedom and Choice Act signed into law.

    ACTION!

dudes, this new Michelle announcement is a crime… we need to spread the word of this statement of hers before it sinks out of the media’s attention…

Michelle’s statement is the forensic evidence that Obama’s campaign is run on and trying to save itself with sexism and horribly cruel and dirty smears against a teenage girl, a baby and a family because they have nothing else to offer the voter. They are desperate.

We should start posting this on every blog and emailing every journalist and newspaper we can today.

Obama has to be held accountable!

    Here is the short version:

    —–

    ==============

    here is the longer version:

Barack Obama said he would fire any of “his” people if they are helping fan the flames about the preganancy of the Republican Vice Presidential candidate’s 17 year old daughter? Families, so he says, are not fair game.

This remark arrived after the hurricane of sexual bigotry that was unleashed on America the day of Mccain’s introduction of Governor Sarah Palin to America. I won’t recap the shameful “journalism”, the smears and the innuendo here as we are all painfully well aware of what happened.

But I would like to point out that even before Palin made history and changed the political landscape with her powerful convention speech, the conclusion that many tried to force on voters was that Palin was a bad mother and therefore unfit for office.

Five days after Obama said families are off limits, Michelle Obama feels it necessary to tell us all that the Obama’s will not have anymore kids because the “presidential race is enough additional responsibility”.

Of course when i said that at work I got shot down. Imagine my supprise when they turned on palin. also, could someone please stop with the obamas’ reproduction issues. that’s just nasty. she and bama could have 12 kids i don’t want to know about it. Yuck!

    • http://purplechiten.wordpress.com Chiten

since obi has two young daughters to raise, he should drop out of the race and allow the better candidate (with the adult daughter) be the democratic candidate instead (since she DID win the primary and all).
Can’t have it both ways obi. You may have gotten away with it with your buddies calling the shots, but your buddies don’t control the republican party.

  • Paul3triple

that is a problem i have with SOME pro-choicers. Abortion, CANNOT be used as a form of birth control. I know some girls who have had3-4 abortions. A single person!
that is wrong. There needs to be restrictions in place imo. If that freedom of choice act were passed i pray for the unborn who will be discarded simply because it is lawful to do so with no consequence but that of your concious.
And yes, 90% of babies with down syndrome are aborted. That is a disgustingly amazing number.
Abortion is legal but should not be to the point of it becoming an epedemic. It is very close to being just that.

    • http://purplechiten.wordpress.com Chiten

I agree that there are entirely too many people that use abortion as a form of birth control. Either use protection to start with, don’t have sex, or learn to take responsibility.
If a teenager has an accident and she and her family decide to abort, I support the choice. If she does it again, something else needs to be happening because she didn’t learn the first time.
The thing that makes me most mad is when they won’t use birth control “for religous reasons” but then have their secret abortion and it’s just fine.
      I’m pro-choice, but I’m also pro-responsibility. I’m pro-life, but I’m also pro-humanity.
There’s no clear cut category for me, just like there isn’t for lost of people. MANY, MANY people would say “I wouldn’t have an abortion myself, but I don’t want that choice taken from someone else”. That’s my feeling. But the same people also say “Abortion shouldn’t be used as birth control”. That’s also my feeling. And the same people say “There should be limits to abortions”. That’s my feeling too. None of these contradict one another. Each of them calls for one thing and one thing only. Adult Responsibility. Each and every time you have sex, be prepared and use birth control if you don’t want to get pregnant. If you get prenant anyway, weigh your choices heavily. You are destroying a part of yourself that has the potential to be a separate human being. There are cases where I would not argue that it is better to end the prenancy than go through with it, if your health isn’t at risk or there is no danger the baby will have severe conditions of any kind, I don’t think you should have an abortion, but that’s your decision to make. Many, many people like to adopt newborns and if you don’t want to raise the baby, there are people out there who would give it a happy, loved home and have been just waiting for the chance. Being pro-choice means looking at ALL the choices including abortion, adoption, assistance, and many other things we don’t even know about. I want all these options to remain on the table and each individual to be counciled on what would ge the best for them and the possible child.
I have supported individuals in getting abortions. I have also supported individuals in going through with their pregnancy. This is a very individualized decision. My own wish is that any child who could live a happy and healthy life be given the opportunity to do so if the mother’s health isn’t at risk. If the mother ends up in the same position a second time, then the mother needs to have some reprecussion along with the choice. This is NOT choosing what outfit to wear in the morning, this is a life/death decision that should never be taken lightly, but abortion must remain a possibility in the decision making.

If Governor Palin is pro-life to the extent that she works to take away choice from women, then I agree with the doctor.

My Mom gave birth to my sister, who has Downs Syndrome in 1964. My Mom didn’t have the option of discovering if her child would be born with Downs Syndrome nor the choice to end the pregnancy. She would have never chosen abortion, it went against her personal beliefs. However, she was pro-choice in that every women should have the option to make that decision herself, the state shouldn’t make it for her.

In 1964, there was no special education or Special Olympics for Downs Syndrome children. There was no aid for the family in training and educating the child or any options for the child other than an institution if the child outlived the parents. My parents were told my sister did not have the heart ailments that cut so many Downs Syndrome children’s adult lives short and she would outlive them.

The choice was take the child home, muddle and struggle on your own or institutionalize the child. My Mom fought placing my sister in an institution for nine long months. But at the end of that time she was emotionally and physically exhausted from caring for a toddler and an infant who took two hours to finish a bottle. She had no sleep. She had no help beyond her husband, her toddler and friends. She was on her own. There were no special schools to help my sister learn to walk, bathe, feed herself, talk, read, write her name, etc.

My Mom visited twelve families, six who had kept their Downs Syndrome child home and six who had institutionalized the Downs Syndrome child. She saw the burdens placed on the other children in a family that kept the Downs Syndrome child. She saw the emotional and physical toll it placed on the family. If she wanted her Downs Syndrome baby to have the minimum of education given to Downs Syndrome children at the time, she would have to institutionalize her baby. Every Sunday after church, my Mom drove an hour to spend the afternoon with her little girl. In the early years, she drove home crying before she learned to hide and bury the grief and guilt deep inside of her. The grief and guilt never left her or my Dad.

When my sister was ten, the institution was closed and my sister was moved to a foster home where she enrolled in a special education school and continued her education until age 25. She’s been with that same loving family for over thirty years now and works three days a week. My sister can write her name, but never learned to speak. My Mom blamed herself that my sister never learned to speak, because she was in an institution, not a warm, loving family home in her early childhood. She blamed herself that she did something or didn’t do something during her pregnancy that resulted in my sister having Downs Syndrome. She blamed herself that she wasn’t super woman and couldn’t raise a Downs Syndrome child who would never progress mentally beyond the age of three on her own without the benefit of special programs for the child.

My Mom carried the guilt of institutionalizing her child to her grave. She rarely talked about it, but it was there on her face every time my sister was mentioned or she looked at the photo of my sister on the piano.

In 2008, Governor Palin was given choices and options my Mom never had in 1964 when Governor Palin was born. It was my Mom’s generation and the daughters and sons they raised who fought for the choices and options Governor Palin had during her pregnancy and now has in raising her Downs Syndrome child. Much has changed in forty-four years, but if Governor Palin wants the state to take away the option of not carrying a child with severe special needs to term from a mother and her family, I agree with the doctor.

The doctor’s reasoning is convoluted, but having seen what my Mom lived with and through, I understand what he’s attempting to express.

I’m proud to say I have a cousin who beat the odds. She is now 58 years old and was born with Downs Syndrome. She wasn’t expected to live into her late teens, but she did. Then she wasn’t expected to live past her 20′s, but she did. Then her 30′s, but she did. They kept trying to give her an expiration date and she kept right on going. She’s still going and is one of the happiest, healthiest people in my family. She has been a blessing to many generations, never forgets a name or a face and absolutely covers you with love every time you see her. Sometimes, I feel like she’s very blessed in a way. She has no feelings of “evil” within her. She doesn’t know what hatred is. She only knows love and how it is to be loved by your family and friends. Her mother took care of her by herself her entire life. Now, as an adult, she is taking care of her mother. She doesn’t know everything to do, but she knows when her mother in’t acting normal, she knows to call her sister or an ambulance and then her sister. She’ll never discover cold fusion, but she is an expert in warm love.

But what about for diseases you can’t diagnose. how about Cerebral *which is caused by the lack of oxygen to the motor cortex before after are doing the process of birth. and most Cerebral palsy kids are much harder to care of than down syndrome kids” and the saddest part about those children is that they actually have perfectly normal minds, they are just trapped in their own bodies. What about children with autism. There are no test for that. So in all honesty there are a large group of women who don’t have the choice to terminate because they don’t know can’t know something is going to be wrong with their child. personally i hate hypocrites. at least this woman she practice what she preaches. Most prolife supporters are a bunch of white males who are pissed off because women have an ability to do something they can’t, carry a child. So they ney need to figure out a way for them to control that as well. . However the reason I’m pro choice is because life happens, and when push comes to shove, it’s not me that is going to have to pay for and nurture infants whose family does not want them. So i mind my own business, which is something I think that doctor should have done.

Infact it was the meat-heads in the AMA during the 1800s that really started this whole crock of bull in the first place. During the late 1800s medicine was starting to become specialize and doctors were threatened by midwives, because more women went to them than to OB GYN’s. Midwives performed abortions and so the AMA came up with the notion that life began a conception *which is true* and there for abortion was murder. Up until that time people believed life began at quickening, and that the first three months of pregnancy were a problem with menses. This way they could paint midwives as criminal and force them into extinction. Going to a physician back then was like signing your death certificate and expensive so they had to do something. Doctors who were rumored to perform abortions were rarely caught and tried. so the pro life movement always has been more about power and money and status, than genuine concern about the life of a fetus, religion, or women. So instead of smearing Palin, he needs to blame his professional ancestors for had they not been so greedy, then it would have never been an issue. Because they are the main one who pushed the legislation against abortion through in the first place. had they kept their mouths shut, we would not be having this conversation.

I had a student with Cerebral Palsy. It angered me to no end that the foolish administrator at the time wanted to put her in the functonally mentally handicapped class. A fellow teacher and I fought it tooth and nail to ensure she was in regular classes, even some gifted classes. She has since graduated and is now a teacher herself.
I got the most beautiful letter from her when she graduated. I kept it and read it occaisionally when I’m feeling as though I’m not making a difference. I still hear from her from time to time. Do to my changing in positions as she grew older, I ended up going with her from middle school to high school and was able to have her in class for 6 years in a row. I put a lot of love and work into that child and she has made me more proud than any other student I have ever had.
She was so excited when I put her on my academic team (quiz bowl) and told me later that was the highlight of her entire high school experience that someone would do that after the one guy had try to put her into that horrible class. Of course I cried, she cried, everybody cried and it was one of the most wonderful, fulfilling experiences in my life.
I’ve been blessed to work with many children with many different abilities from the gifted/talented to the special olympics and that’s something nobody can ever take away from me, nor would I allow them to.

Obama NEEDS to be worrying about the ONE thing that has kept George bush safe for all these years (other than the words ‘president cheney’ prevents many things).
All of the owners of high powered, long distance rifles who happen to be a little off kilter are very, very dedicated bush supporters. This puts them directly opposed to obi.
I’m a life long democrat, own only a 22 rifle, a 22 pistol and a deer rifle which are in my father’s gun safe in a state 500 miles away from where I live. I also am very much against the killing of anything other than for food (deer, squirrel, rabbit, but mostly tin cans, they’re my favorite LOL) This isn’t the case for most people who oppose obama, expecially the die-hard republicans that oppose him. I will be very surprised if Obama lives until the election just from reading some of the very radical right wing blogs I’ve read that hate him for things such as being a democrat, being black, lies and distoritions, being raised a muslim (he WAS a muslim as a child regardless of what he is now). There will be some gun nut bush supporter (in that 18%) who will make an attempt on him, probably several. (Cheney may do it, look what he does to his “friends”, can you imagine what he would do to an enemy??)
I hate to say it, because I value human life, but there are probably at least a dozen or two people out there who have seriously thought of assasinating him. I don’t mean the thought has crossed their mind, I mean they have sat down, considered the best way to do it and possibly made detailed plans of how to carry it out. I have no doubt there will be attempts on his life, that’s why he got secret service early. I don’t know if they will wait until after he lost the election or before, but there will be somebody who will kill him.
I will consider it a horrible shame, a terrible crime and an atrocious act. However, I will not shed a tear for him because I would have to have some kind of positive feeling for him to do that and I just don’t have one.

Oh, and that MEchelle comment about “as a black man, Barack could be shot going to the gas station” I have one comment; “You racist, hatefilled bitch. It has nothing to do with him being a black man, ANY PERSON could get shot going to the gas station. Why does EVERYTHING you say HAVE to be based on skin color you racist bitch???”.
    Ok, done now.

You are beyond ignorant, Obama even running in this election as a black man has shown his courage.

He will win and that will be something that no one can take away.

He is a strong intelligent black man and I guess that would scare a lot of people.

      • StrawberrybitesBarky

Half black. And what courage? Sorry, but that “above my pay grade” remark is military speak for “I’m too stupid and lazy to find out”.

The article is unbelievably disgusing and ugly.

The piece of trash, Salon, published that??

Oh, for love of heavens, he is talking about a child that is born, a child that is now alive and is loved by his parents and siblings (you saw Piper with him).

It’s so incredibly ugly to bring the issue of choice after the baby is born.

The ‘doctor’ writing this article is uttely pathetic. I am disgusted and revolted at him and at Salon for publishing the crap he wrote.

Honestly, if I came across this article first-hand, I will be reluctant to bring attention to it because of its sheer ugliness. This is not a critism of this post, but rather a way to illustrate how I feel about what was in that article.

Palin had her baby and that’s good for her but with the way the laws are today she had a choice and she choose to have her baby but if Palin had her way women would not have that choice.

I don’t believe in anything that Palin does such as I feel a woman has a right to choose she doesn’t, I feel that sex education should be taught in schools she doesn’t, I believe in birth control she doesn’t, I believe in equal pay for women she doesn’t and the list goes on and on….

Just one week before McCain picked Palin as his VP she was praising Obama saying she liked Obama’s message of change and that she was glad that Obama was gaining on McCain in the polls in Alaska and she liked Obama’s energy plan so clearly McCain had not vetted this woman.

McCain has said he doesn’t know much about the economy and from what he’s offering the American people he shows that he doesn’t and I don’t know if Palin knows a lot about the economy because yesterday she said that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac was funded by tax payers when they are privately funded.

Bring on the debates and the American people will clearly see who is for them.

Um, what are you babbling on about? Everything you just spouted has already been debunked here. Go back and read over the old diares.
