Rasmussen: Palin Now More Popular Than McCain and Obama

Do you love this title or what????

A week ago, most Americans had never heard of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Now, following a Vice Presidential acceptance speech viewed live by more than 40 million people, Palin is viewed favorably by 58% of American voters. The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 37% hold an unfavorable view of the self-described hockey mom.

The figures include 40% with a Very Favorable opinion of Palin and 18% with a Very Unfavorable view (full demographic crosstabs are available for Premium Members). Before her acceptance speech, Palin was viewed favorably by 52%. A week ago, 67% had never heard of her.

The new data also shows significant increases in the number who say McCain made the right choice and the number who say Palin is ready to be President. Generally, John McCain’s choice of Palin earns slightly better reviews than Barack Obama’s choice of Joe Biden.

Are you laughing hysterically yet? It gets better:

Perhaps most stunning is the fact that Palin’s favorable ratings are now a point higher than either man at the top of the Presidential tickets this year. As of Friday morning, Obama and McCain are each viewed favorably by 57% of voters. Biden is viewed favorably by 48%.

There is a strong partisan gap when it comes to perceptions of Palin. Eighty-nine percent (89%) of Republicans give her favorable reviews along with 33% of Democrats and 59% of voters not affiliated with either major party.

She earns positive reviews from 65% of men and 52% of women. The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows that Obama continues to lead McCain among women voters while McCain leads among men. The Friday morning update—the first to include interviews conducted after Palin’s speech–showed the beginning of a Republican convention bounce that may match Obama’s bounce from last week.

Ooooooooo. Not good Barky. Not good at all. Dang! Michelle must be stamping her feet! You keep shooting at Sarah, ya hear? And make sure CNN and MSNBC keep it up too. See how well it works out for you. You pulled the race card for a year. Now it’s the S card, Barky. Hurts, doesn’t it?

Thanks for your help, man!

It’s good to hear that 33% of my fellow Democrats retain their rationality. I had serious doubts.

ObamaIsToast Welcome! Glad to have you posting!

Mr I hear that. I chat in a politics room and a few folks I never would have thought to go for Barry have. It has been frustrating.

  • Docelder

I just have a gut feeling… there is much more to come. We know really little about the man who has written two books about himself. So little about certain things that shouldn’t matter… that you just know something is very wrong. I hope as well, the election will be properly monitored for voter fraud. His folks are so certain they have this huge previously untapped voter base. I hope somebody will be verifying the registrations and things like mail in ballots. These guys don’t care how they win… they just want the end result that they want.

I was listening to PUMA radio online and their guess was some woman named Gloria who was a Hillary delegate, even with all the issues she talked about at the roll call vote now she is on the radio talking bunk about getting Obama elected.

What is wrong with these people, have they all gone nuts, to her its frightening to have Palin a heart beat away from the Presidency she just cant have that and voters should be scared of such and put Obama in there to stop this madness.

Honestly I am getting the funny feeling that some of these female Hillary supporters now don’t care about this country all they want to ensure is that another woman does not take Hillary’s place, so if that means getting Obama elected they rather do that.

How long are they going to sit there and wait for Hillary to get her chance until 2016 when Hillary herself may have lost the taste of politics, she did say Hillary is trying to get her debt retired and Hillary will do what she needs to do,well that sure does not make me feel good as a supporter and voter, it sure seems like its every man for his self now, what about the people all the this ones for you crap.

Seems the debt is important so if they can con voters into electing Obama it will be a job well done and the debt will be paid, so much for doing for your country.

The Obama campaign is so fixated on Palin that it looks like he running for VP. Are they going to get Biden to run against McCain? Or Hillary? He seems to have a go a little nuts with women running for public office unless they are fawning acolytes. It is starting to look very peculiar.

    McCain knows something about Karma.
I saw it on his face when he introduced Sarah to the nation.
McCain was saying to himself..Come on you sexist pigs take the bait and meet your demise.
Sarah is the answer to our pain that we suffered at the hands of the thugs.

    McCain gave America a gift!!!

  • Hope Floats

I think McCain can win Colorado, Nevada and Ohio. And he is pulling ahead in Michigan and Pennsylvania.

  • jimbo

In light of palin’s popularity, I wonder how many women know about this change in McCain’s abortion stance? http://www.crooksandliars.com/2008/09/06/mccain-surrenders-gop-party-platform-includes-palins-hard-lined-stance-on-abortion/. Not too many, I bet. Goes right in line with her creationism bent. That’ll be real popular too, as more become aware of it. And they will, you can bet on it. I’m not trying to antagonize anyone, just suggesting that one may need to take everything into consideration when looking at the big picture.

  • JohninCA

    No Pennsylvania = NObama.

  • csuzeq

Hillary is not helping Barky get elected no matter how it may appear. Hillary is out campaigning to put a democrat in the white house, namely her. She is getting out there and staying visible in case she has to step in for Obama if the Berg lawsuite is successful, http://www.obamacrimes.com , or if one of those skeletons gets yanked out of the closet and does him in. If nothing succeeds and it gets close to November, don’t be surprised if Hillary or Bill gets someone on releasing a major scandal to the media under the radar! They know what they are doing here. Trust the Clintons!

  • NoBO
  • jimbo

Go Hillary. Go Berg. And to the extent Larry can help, go Larry.

  • Hope Floats

Something funny about karma, too. Obama lied about NAFTA in Ohio, and then he got caught. Hillary beat him, though the fight got pretty nasty. Now he’s got to win the state after all, and he’s using Hillary’s old speeches.

But McCain introduced Sarah Palin in Dayton. It was his birthday and her 20th anniversary that same day, right after the Democratic convention ended. It was such a clear sign to me that McCain will win this year. It’s his time, and every Republican that won has carried Ohio.

  • Hope Floats

Jimbo, I don’t know what to make of you. Here you’ve got this folksy way of talking, but you’re hung up on religion and women’s reproductive rights. I know the Obama memo says to keep hammering away at the theme, but you’re some character, like if Flannery O’Connor wrote about book-burning nazis. Lighten up, you know?

  • csuzeq

nothing matter to me except NObama!

  • fluffy bunny

Jeez dude, I’d be embarrassed to post something that stupid. McCain’s got a “perfect” 20+ year pro-life voting record and the GOP platform has been pro-life for that long. That ain’t change.

You guys really do think voters are morons. Did you miss that whole Saddleback forum?

But you think you are going to scare women into voting for Obama by saying that the GOP platform being pro-life is a change?

OK, now I’m really going to bed.

  • NoBO

What garbage. When did a party platform plank matter? Roe is settled law, period. No one is going to be able to do anything with a Dem Congress so the threat is moot. It’s a DNC/Brazile scare tactic that won’t fly. Millions of PUMAs will not be voting for Obama and millions will be voting for McCain-Palin.

I’ve read that both McCain and Palin have no interest in appointing Sup.Crt. judges based on that antichoice issue.
In fact, Palin said she knows that women would never give up the right to choose.

For your info. Obot- John McCain picked a woman for the second highest office in the land and a partner

  • csuzeq

I am about as sick of hearing about abortion as I am hearing about Barfy Ofrauda. I consider myself pro choice, but would support prolife legislation provided then we endorse and support and make available birth control and adoption assistance. But the truth is that I’d really like someone to give me the numbers on how many abortions there were in the US last year that were not for medical reasons because I believe we make this out to be such a huge problem that if I didn’t know better from the sounds of it, women must be getting pregnant and having abortions all the time. Really, are there people who have multiple abortions in a year? I am not trying to make anyone mad here, but really don’t we have bigger fish to fry before we worry about abortion as our biggest problem in America? Wow. I wish that was the biggest problem here! Also, I keep trying to think of any major changes that have occurred in America and under what Administration and all that comes to mind is no child left behind, an abysmal failure and Welfare reform. So really since Clinton there has only been one major reform and it is such a failure we are going to most likely revamp it no matter who gets in the White House? How does anyone think that the group of leaders we have now will accomplish anything?? I seriously think this is only 4 yaers of being stagnant. I am not worried about an amendment to the constitution being passed. What year was the last one again? Nothing much gets done in America anymore and seriously hasn’t for years!

  • PKJAYNE

The most important thing is to sync our biological lives with our cultural lives. Take a look at Chile sometime. You’d be surprised what you find. There’s nothing wrong with kids – but there is something wrong with a society that gets schooling and work so terribly out of sync.

    Dear jimbo,
It may come as a shock to you but most bitter old woman who need to get over it are well past reproductive age. If you were that concerned about woman’s rights you should have worked for Hillary’s right to not have the nomination stolen from her.

But to the heart of the matter…the Obama Troll VAGINA SCARE TACTIC:

I have thought long and hard about the Roe V Wade Scare tactics being used and over used by O-bot trolls and those that send them out to scare us bitter old women, and dead-enders with or without the plumbing.

    Here is my final answer:

Repealing Roe V Wade and turning Abortion into a state issue instead of a federal one would result in more Oral Sex – something both men and women can be happy about, and ladies remember Men Lie so make them work first.

So you see, no matter what happens, it is a win/win.

We Defeat Obama and Increase the number of Cunning Linguists.

  • csuzeq

So I just checked and the 27th ammendment to the constitution was ratified in 1992

Here is a timeline of the last 6 ammendments. As you can see, it doesn’t happen very quickly!

1868 Amendment 14 – Rights of citizenship to all people born in USA or naturalized
1870 Amendment 15 – Gives the right to vote to all citizens, regardless of color or race, but women are not mentioned
    1913 Amendment 16 – Income tax begins
1920 Amendment 19 – Women’s suffrage (women given the right to vote)
    1971 Amendment 26 – Voting age lowered to 18
1992 Amendment 27 – Congressional pay increases go into effect only during the next Congressional session

There are about 3,700, every DAY in the US. That equates to 1.37 MILLION per YEAR. Worldwide, there are approximately 46 MILLION per YEAR.

Only 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest. 6% occurs because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child. 93% of all abortions, performed in the US, are for social reasons.

    Stats taken from abortionno.org

This information is sad. I would think with all the different forms of birth control available to women these numbers would be a lot lower. 93% for social reasons? I’ve never taken a look at the actual numbers before. Apparently, we’re not making birth control available enough for women or men…We need to do more. I think it would be cheaper for tax payers to pay for contraceptives, then it would for an abortion? But I couldn’t find any facts or figures. I wish I had some answers for this, any thoughts?

“Apparently, we’re not making birth control available enough for women or men…We need to do more.”

People are just lazy. Many single men don’t want to use condoms since they don’t feel as good; the women go along with it, maybe hoping that they’ll trap the guy if they get pregnant. One thing I bet would go up if we lost Roe v. Wade – you’d see a lot more people taking responsibility and using birth control properly.

  • Diana

I was just looking for that, I can’t find a breakdown. I was thinking along those same lines also. I just don’t know where you can find the information. Or where to start, I would think this would already be being addressed, but apparently it’s not.

I don’t care if we need to go door to door to help women out. Something just doesn’t seem right with those numbers.

What concerns me is if that many women are having an abortion every year, they’re also exposing their bodies not only to the complications that can result from any surgery. But, to sexual diseases, some that have a very real potential to kill them.

It really concerns me that we may be neglecting a very large bloc of women, that may need help. No one could convince me in a million years that this isn’t a very hard decision for many of those women, they just may not have been given any alternative. When she asked that question I was not expecting that high a number.

If the ruling was reversed, the people’s sovereignty would be returned to it, and the people can decide the issue in the manner properly delineated in our Federal Republic and that would be determined by each State’s Constitution.

As it should be IMHO. Issues that are very sensitive and not directly relevant to the Constitution should not imposed on everyone by a court. that just creates two miserable factions who have no power to change anything yet be locked in eternal battle.

Although I think there is a Federal Partial Birth Abortion ban? I’m not sure what the Constitutional basis for that would be, but so little of what Congress does is restrained by that.

Barack Obama was a founding member of the board of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife became executive director of the Chicago chapter of Public Allies in 1993. Obama plans to use the nonprofit group, which he features on his campaign Web site, as the model for a national service corps. He calls his Orwellian program, “Universal Voluntary Public Service.”

Big Brother had nothing on the Obamas. They plan to herd American youth into government-funded reeducation camps where they’ll be brainwashed into thinking America is a racist, oppressive place in need of “social change.”

The pitch Public Allies makes on its Web site doesn’t seem all that radical. It promises to place young adults (18-30) in paid one-year “community leadership” positions with nonprofit or government agencies. They’ll also be required to attend weekly training workshops and three retreats.

In exchange, they’ll get a monthly stipend of up to $1,800, plus paid health and child care. They also get a post-service education award of $4,725 that can be used to pay off past student loans or fund future education.

But its real mission is to radicalize American youth and use them to bring about “social change” through threats, pressure, tension and confrontation — the tactics used by the father of community organizing, Saul “The Red” Alinsky.

“Our alumni are more than twice as likely as 18-34 year olds to . . . engage in protest activities,” Public Allies boasts in a document found with its tax filings. It has already deployed an army of 2,200 community organizers like Obama to agitate for “justice” and “equality” in his hometown of Chicago and other U.S. cities, including Cincinnati, Los Angeles, Milwaukee, New York, Phoenix, Pittsburgh and Washington. “I get to practice being an activist,” and get paid for it, gushed Cincinnati recruit Amy Vincent.

Paternal DNA testing has given some men second thoughts about abortion. Men can’t deny paternity any longer.

Nonsense. Use a condom. It’s safe sex.

DNA paternity testing is making a lot of men think twice about their own responsibilities.

My understanding is that Palin is a member of a feminist organization that is committed to birth control, adoption, economic support and other initiatives that would make abortion rare. Larry/Susan, can you post some info on this for us.I saw briefly on CNN headline news last night that Palin is anti birth control etc. I think this is false information. If you look at Palin’s own reproductive record it is clear that she practices some kind of birth control; her children are clearly spaced out in years. If Roe v Wade were overturned, the issue would definitely be a state issue; blue states would pass legislation approving it; red would probably not. The net effect would be zero because if you look at where abortions are legally performed now, I think you would find that they are mostly in the blue states. But the bottom line is that this issue is no longer the hot button issue among women that it was 30 plus years ago. I don’t think it is a winning issue for Dems. The economy as an issue might be but Obama can’t seem to get focused on it. Where are Bill and Hill?

I was thinking about the things I like about Palin–why we are so immediately attracted to her. One thing I don’t remember hearing others say is, she is so obviously happy! She loves her husband. She loves Alaksa. She loves her children–and thinks her Downs baby is “perfect”! She took all the crap and lies that Obambi and the trolls dished out on her and her family, shrugged it off and seems HAPPY. She is obviously a strong woman with a strong faith who will be competent as VPOTUS, but if (horrors!) she loses, she will be happy to go back to being (just!) the Governor of Alaska. You can’t fake that!

Compare that to the whining that is coming from the other side. Barky sounds more like a “whiny girl” that the WOMAN in the race.

I’m very disappointed with NOW and how they’ve jumped on the bandwagon about her being unable to be a mother and VP. I used to belong to that organization, and I’m glad I let my membership lapse.
They need to change their name from National Organization for Women to National Organization for Some Women. If Palin wasn’t a conservative Republican, they’d be screaming “sexism” at the top of their lungs.
For 12 years, I’ve been an Independent married to a conservative Republican. I’ve tuned my husband’s rantings out more times than I can count. Now, I’m beginning to believe he’s right on one point, at least. The left wing wants freedom and free speech for other leftwingers but not for anyone else. They only fight for each other but not for the rest of America. NOW and many others have unfortunately proven his point and sealed my resolve to vote McCain/Palin.

  • kgirl1028

You know everyday. I find something new in John McCain’s picking of palin. Damn. Obama is falling apart at the seams I clicked on aol an it seems he’s really pissed off about what Palin said about him, the wheels are coming of the bike, why? Because obama has never ran a campaign with a worthy opponent to completion. he thought John Mccain was going to pick just another conservative white man, and the republican base would not have been enthusiastic, which in all honesty would have been shoe in. But palin is something different. he can’t attack her the way he would have been able to attack a white male opponent. So where as he thought he would be a shoe in he’s going to have to actually run for president. John McCain is good. Damn!

Really tired of the push to make a case out of losing a woman’s right to choose, based on 14th amend.~Makes it sound like the O supporters are pushing some fantasy all women will be living the “Handmaids Tale”, if O isn’t elected.

Just a reminder, Roe v. Wade, is only related to the amendments as the validation for a woman’s right to privacy, there is no amendment guaranteeing abortion, and has never been one to date. The laws of the states go back to the decision on the Roe v Wade case as a matter of common law/stare decisis. It is the job of the courts to see no state law goes against the U.S. Constitution, thus if a state makes a civil penalty for something guaranteed in the constitution, the courts are obligated to not let this happen. Courts prefer to stay out of this type of thing, but when a state chooses to interfere with Federal law, this is where the case ends up, with the Supreme Court. As far as Roe v.Wade being banned, removed whatever the hype is, that could happen in each state, but not likely after as many years have passed; but there will not ever be a Constitutional Amendment for this issue, it will never pass. The worse case scenario is if you are someone who needs or wants an abortion and you live in a state that doesn’t allow it, you might have to go to another state.

State criminal abortion laws, like those involved here, that except from criminality only a life-saving procedure on the mother’s behalf without regard to the stage of her pregnancy and other interests involved violate the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, which protects against state action the right to privacy, including a woman’s qualified right to terminate her pregnancy.

Holding -Texas law making it a crime to assist a woman to get an abortion violated her due process rights. U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas affirmed in part, reversed in part. Laws applied U.S. Const. Amend. XIV; Tex. Code Crim. Proc. arts. 1191–94, 1196

Every single weekend of the O campaign and perhaps before, there have been “campaign camps”, for organizing his voter base. Every single weekend. Go to the O campaign site, and a little deep into the blog, it is there. Months ago he had a letter describing the service portion of pushing the youth volunteerism, within that letter military service was included, which I read as code for draft, about a week later the letter was scrubbed, and removed all military references.

The trouble is, in politics you commit yourself to serving for discrete lengths of time and it’s to party as well as policy. If you want to look into real (and sometimes real boring) research on abortion, who has them, what the consequences are, you need to get into health services data bases. For instance, I belong to the American Public Health Association (APHA). They are rather fixated on tobacco and AIDS, but they cover abortion too (around the world). There is a general medical database, MEDLINE, and a psychology one, ERIC, and many others. Some you can’t access without member priveleges. If you can’t get into such searches on the Internet, I suggest you go to the nearest public university or even community college. In my state, the university library has to be open to any state citizen. They have books of references if they won’t let you use the computer.
    There are tons of articles.

Obama trolls alert – for those of you who are desperately trying to smear Palin and drive off her female supporters:

    http://texashillblog.wordpress.com/2008/09/03/ok-so-lets-talk-religion-palin-and-god/

    Excerpt from above article:

“She is a member of “Femminists For Life” which is a pro-life, pro-contraception group. She wants to make adoption easier, promote abstinence, and advocates the use of contraception. (A view not completely different from even Hillary Clinton if we are going to be honest.) This group also advocates for women in college to get child care services so that they can finish their education. Palin has never introduced, proposed or supported an anti-choice piece of legislation. When asked about these issues, she always refers to how difficult and “personal” these decisions are.

As far as I can tell, she has never sponsored or promoted legislation based on a religious ideal during her 10+ years in office and has upheld the law in opposition to personal religious beliefs more than once.”

  • educatedwhitewoman

See my post and link below. You are correct.

  • yttik

Palin has a better so called “progressive” resume then Obama dreams of having, LOL.

Yes, she did smoke marijauna when it was legal. Yes, she did advocate for pro-contraception education in school. Yes she did veto a bill banning benefits for gay partners. Yes she did impose a windfall profits tax on oil companies and turn around and give that money to the people in her state in the form of a rebate. Yes she did suspend the gas tax. Yes she did increase funding for low income weatherization programs. Yes she has done a great deal of outreach into rural native populations, working to increase funding for education.

  • http://deleted Kathleen

    karen,

You’re absolutely right in pointing out that equal should mean equal representation.

In fact, wasn’t it “taxation, without representation” the reason for the Revolutionary War? Well, it’s time for another revolution to finally allow women to have a say in how we are governed.

Women make up over 1/2 the population, yet, are still marginalized and demonized whenever any woman dare stands up and says she can do better. Why?

We still have a long way to go baby, but we are definitely on our way. In the process, I hope those men who are still threatened by a strong woman will come to realize that women are not the enemy and that, when they are in power, will not marginalize men as they have women, since the beginning of time.

Oh, the irony. What a terrible loss of a golden opportunity that was right there in the hands of the DNC patriarchy and the women that continue to serve them, but they decided to throw away and then tried to destroy an extraordinarily qualified woman for a male fraud (no pun intended).

And for what? They will be trying to answer that question for a long, long time.

    WTH?!

Now Obama is saying he regrets the abortion answer? He signed the fucking live abortion bill! This guy is a fucking fraud!

  • yttik

Something else, John Kerry and Nancy Pelosi are pro-life when it comes to their personal beliefs, just like Palin.

Pro-choice Democrats support Kerry and Pelosi because they have stated they do not legislate their religious beliefs onto the rest of the population. Just like Palin has done.

But Obama, he belongs to a church whose entire mission is to get their religious agenda merged with politics. Even Obama talks about it. Obama sat in church for 20 yrs listening to a preacher tell him all that is wrong with America and how it must be fixed politically. Obama campaigned with actively anti-gay ministers. Obama went out and tried to woo evangelicals. He is the one that seems confused about where the line should be drawn.

I am 100% more frightened of Obama’s potential problem with merging church and state, then I am with McCain/Palin.

The fact that two out of three of these refer to Typical White Women, whom he collectively depises, makes this all the more delicious.

    http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/
Statistics, from Center for Disease Control

    http://www.apha.org/
