So, Attacking Palin Makes Sense? UPDATED

Let me state at the outset that I like Sarah Palin because she has shown the ability to take on entrenched interests–the Republican Party of Alaska and the Oil and Gas Industry. Her social conservatism is irrelevant to me. Why? Because she has demonstrated that her priority is fixing government waste and abuse rather than focusing her energies on bedroom or pecker politics. We have had eight years of a Republican frat boy President, a Skull and Bones kind of dude, who talked a good game but when it came to acting on behalf of the people of this country he punted and did a fair share of pandering to special interests. Nor am I arguing that Republicans should be in control of the Congress. Candidly, Republicans and Democrats have both been awful on this front.

Sarah Palin’s vagina and ovaries are not relevant factors to whether she is qualified or not to be President in the event McCain falls over like Fred Sanford. Similarly Barack Obama’s skin color is neither a qualifying or disqualifying factor. The issue is simple–of all the people involved in this Presidential campaign who has actually taken on and defeated special interests? John McCain, at least on campaign finance and immigration, has shown a willingness to fight his party’s entrenched specials interests. And Palin’s record is clear. Can you cite just one example of Obama or Biden doing the same? This is an honest request. While Obama portrays himself as “Mr. Change” he is only good at changing his mind on things he said he once believed (e.g., fisa, public financing of elections, withdrawal timetable for Iraq, etc.) How about Biden? Does his backing of Clarence Thomas count as “taking on entrenched interests?”

So check out these competing views. Let’s start with the Democratic side of the ledger. Did you see this?

Bonnie Fuller at Huffington Post published a piece with the title, Sarah Palin Dissed John and Sam Adams, Ben Franklin, the Original George W. and the Rest of the Founding Fathers! You have got to be shitting me. I thought this was a joke at first. Surely she was writing tongue in cheek? Nope. Bonnie states:

It’s amazing what a group of highly motivated community organizers did over 230 years ago. So what’s so bad about a presidential nominee today starting his activist career this way? And hey Sarah, isn’t the PTA one of the most effective community organizations in the country? Isn’t that where you got your start?

And now to touch on a theme that has been a biggie in this election — it certainly appears that the Founding Fathers didn’t have a whole lot of “experience” in running a country before they took on the task of launching and then governing the newly-born America. This should give comfort to both Governor Palin and Senator Obama, each of whom has come under some pretty heavy fire for their lack of longterm “executive” experience.

Then there’s the battle over which candidate is more “typical” or “relatable.” Sarah Palin wants us electorate to feel chummy with her because she’s a small-town hockey mom. She mentioned the term “small town” four times in her vice-presidential acceptance speech the other night. The only problem is that she doesn’t seemed to notice but most Americans today do not live in small towns anymore. We live in cities, there are no corn fields in our back yards and that trend shows no signs of reversing.

When I suggested to one of my more “progressive” (i.e., ultra liberal) friends that the Dems were making a mistake attack Palin instead of going after her on the issues, especially given her broad popularity in Alaska, he wrote:

Funny, I’m hearing the exact opposite.

Sounds like 78% is pretty good as I’m sure she has only one way to go…… down.

Sorry LJ, I’m not buying it. Neither is Hillary. In the end, neither will the majority of Americans. The number of Dem’s registering to vote is overwhelming, Palin is of little consequence now, just a show to shore of the religious loony right and the rush lambast crowd.

This country is so moving on… The reign of lies, deceit pushed by these clowns is oh so over.

Maddow nails it….

My friend is referring to Maddow on Countdown where she accuses the Republicans of lying about Barack but fails to surface a single example of such lies. (You can see the video clip here.) For example, the Republicans are lying, says Maddow, when they say Obama has not penned a single piece of major legislation. Okay, name the legislation? . . . .waiting . . . . waiting Oh, and doing something for the Republic of the Congo does not count. Republicans are also lying per Rachel about Barack’s plan to raise taxes. Well, the fact of the matter is that Obama is only going to raise taxes on Americans who most folks consider rich. But that’s not lying.

What about reaching across the aisle? Well, when it comes to lying it looks like that turd hangs around Barack’s neck. Barack had promised John McCain help in sponsoring legislation on lobbying reform. And who flip flopped? You got it–Barack Obama. According to McCain’s letter:
Dear Senator Obama:

I would like to apologize to you for assuming that your private assurances to me regarding your desire to cooperate in our efforts to negotiate bipartisan lobbying reform legislation were sincere. When you approached me and insisted that despite your leadership’s preference to use the issue to gain a political advantage in the 2006 elections, you were personally committed to achieving a result that would reflect credit on the entire Senate and offer the country a better example of political leadership, I concluded your professed concern for the institution and the public interest was genuine and admirable. Thank you for disabusing me of such notions with your letter to me dated February 2, 2006, which explained your decision to withdraw from our bipartisan discussions. I’m embarrassed to admit that after all these years in politics I failed to interpret your previous assurances as typical rhetorical gloss routinely used in politics to make self-interested partisan posturing appear more noble. Again, sorry for the confusion, but please be assured I won’t make the same mistake again.

You can read the rest here. And Obama lied his ass off to Rick Warren a month ago when he claimed:

WELL, I’LL GIVE YOU AN EXAMPLE THAT IN FACT I WORKED WITH JOHN MCCAIN ON AND THAT WAS THE ISSUE OF CAMPAIGN ETHICS REFORM AND FINANCE REFORM. THAT WASN’T PROBABLY IN MY INTEREST OR HIS FOR THAT MATTER BECAUSE THE TRUTH WAS BOTH DEMOCRATS OR REPUBLICANS OR OF LIKE THE STATUS QUO AND I WAS NEW TO THE SENATE AND IT DIDN’T NECESSARILY ENGENDER A LOT OF POPULARITY WHEN I STARTED SAYING YOU KNOW WE’RE GOING TO ELIMINATE MEALS AND GIFTS FROM CORPORATE LOBBYISTS.

So what are my Republican friends saying. Specifically I asked my friend about the status of the “whitey” tape. He shared the following:

I will tell you exactly what they are waiting for. You may not like the
answer, but here it is.

The McCain bunch are, if nothing else, cool, calculating customers. Something happened over the last week that they were not expecting, and that something indicates that they need to go against their emotional and combative instincts, steel themselves and bring their unemotional objectivity to bear. That’s why an attack hasn’t started yet, at least an attack in earnest. The IDB article that I sent you was obviously a plant from oppo research to a very select target, but stuff like this is all that is going to happen until they see which way the indicators are going. That won’t happen until next Tuesday or Wed at the earliest.

This week’s convention caught even the most true believing of Repub operatives totally by surprise. They were not expecting Sarah to have the effect that she apparently has had across not only Republicans, but across a broad swath of independents. Their internals are telling them that she is, by far, the most popular individual on either ticket across the board. It is further telling them that there is considerable backlash among both independent men and women to the attacks against Sarah that have been mounted by the MSM as well as Obama and his surrogates. Every time they attack Sarah, they are in effect losing support in a demographic where they desperately need support.

They were not expecting last night’s speech to have the effect that it had as McCain is generally considered to be a poor platform speaker. I listened to his speech on XM as I was driving up the coast and then stopped for a cup of coffee at a McDonald’s about 70 miles south of my house in the heart of a very liberal university town whose four year student population has been used as a tool by Democrats to dominate the county government for decades. The McDonald’s had McCain on a widescreen TV, and he was just finishing his speech with the story of how he had been transformed from a swaggering Naval Aviator who cared only for himself into a man who was dedicated to his country and his fellow citizens after the North Vietnamese broke him in interrogation. The entire McDonald’s–liberal students, older workers just getting off of the late shift, McDonald’s staff, and assorted other customers–were riveted in front of the TV with tears streaming down their faces. This is a place where have of the hamburger and French fry preparers hardly speak English, and where half of the student customers were wearing Obama buttons as the balled their eyes out. The dominating visual that I take from that crowd was a young female student uncontrollably raining tears on her Obama campaign button as she listened to McCain. If I could have figured out a way to shoot that on my cellphone, I would be winning YouTube prizes right now.

Overnight internal polling now shows McCain ahead of Obama, but still well within the margin of error. The normal practice is not to believe the polling until it has run for three nights after the defining event, in this case, last night.

But there is another defining event that is going to occur Monday, Tuesday and Wed of next week, and that is O”Reilly’s one on one with Obama. Repubs have the tape, and O’Reilly wiped the floor with Obama. He comes off as petulant, whiny, and inexperienced, blaming every one else for “not listening to what I said” whenever he changed his position. O”Reilly was civil, but he made the guy look like what he is: not ready for President.

With the nation appearing to love Sarah, and now kind of by inclusion McCain, and hating people who attack them, it would be counterproductive to launch an attack campaign until they get the polling that will not be available until at least Tuesday, at the earliest, to see which way the wind is really blowing. If this shows a bounce for McCain of better than or equal to Obama, even if it is still within the margin of error, they will re-evaluate and wait for the effect of O”Reilly’s show (remember, O’Reilly has the largest audience by far for that type of show). If they get a bounce off of O’Reilly, then they will re-evaluate again.

They do have some incredible oppo dirt on Obama and Michelle. Depending on how things are going at the end of next week, if it looks like attacking might gain them support, they will start rolling some of this stuff out so that it can be used in sound bites by the candidate in the debates on an audience that has already been factually prepped with background data by the ads. The feeling is that if Obama can be provoked to melt down in a mano a mano debate, which is his weakest format, that will probably be the ball game.

Here is the feeling of one contact of mine. “We have seen the worst that they can throw at us and appear to have withstood it relatively unscathed. We have a whole arsenal to throw at Obama, and they don’t have a clue to what we may or may not have. All they know is that they have a bottomless pit of revelations to worry about.”

I think that pretty much sums it up.

So, there you have the latest as I know it.

UPDATE: Thanks to one of our commenters, another smear debunked, courtesy of Michelle Malkin I think.

Palin Derangement Syndrome strikes again.

This time it’s hysterical librarians and their readers on the Internet disseminating a bogus list of books Gov. Sarah Palin supposedly banned in 1996. Looks like some of these library people failed reading comprehension. Take a look at the list below and you’ll find books Gov. Palin supposedly tried to ban…that hadn’t even been published yet. Example: The Harry Potter books, the first of which wasn’t published until 1998.
The smear merchants who continue to circulate the list also failed to do a simple Google search, which would have showed them that the bogus Sarah Palin Banned Book List is almost an exact copy-and-paste reproduction of a generic list of “Books Banned at One Time or Another in the United States” that has been floating around the Internet for years. STACLU notes that the official Obama campaign website is also perpetuating the fraud. And it’s spread to craigslist, where some unhinged user is posting images likening Palin to Hitler. Here it is again.
The person who first spread the Palin smear is identified as “Andrew Aucoin,” a commenter on the blog of librarian Jessamyn West. West has done the right thing in keeping the bogus comment up and pointing out in her main post that “there appears to be no truth to the claim made by the commenter, and no further documentation or support for this has turned up.”
These rumors are going to continue backfiring.

    Excellent, as usual, Larry!

Obama is a VERY desperate shell of a man. His support is tanking becuase America is on to his hoddwinking and BS and we know that Sarah palin and John McCain are running to help America! Obama is running to help himself! Big difference!

Obama wants women to give him their money and time and vote as long as he can keep them on the bench. That’s not change. That’s an a$$hole.

I’m so proud to see women standing up to Obama and giving him the middle finger with their vote and support of McCain-Palin in 2008!

It is going to be great when Obama and his band of elite back stabbing sexist thugs are kicked back to Chicago where they belong.

Larry: Outstanding info, thank you, I hope this comes to pass. I talked today with a very close friend of mine who works with the Obama camp on occasion (because his organization endorsed him) and they (Obama camp) are fully and completely confident that they have this election won. They believe that the polls are wrong because Obama users have cel phones. I laughed so hard that he was offended, and he usually isn’t.

The one thing I told him that made him turn pale was simple: “I have two simple words for you…Steve Schmidt.” He turned pale and there was no laughter. He’s on the inside in DC and he understands fully the implications of what I said.

    Let’s hope…(wow, I just used that word!!!).

Bonnie Fuller fails to realize how powerful the “Bubba vote” was to Hillary. Obama’s momentum stopped shortly after the Rev. Wright video footage was aired on the networks. Hillary crushed Obama in states such as West Virginia, Penn State and so forth. Bonnie Fuller has a classic case of tunnel vision which will bite the democrats in the ass much later on.

Hillary has proven to the democrat world what McCain’s strategy was going to be with regard to his experience and patriotism angle because SHE KNOWS JOHN MCCAIN! She’s friends with him. Disorganized Dean and the like would be “damned” to allow Hillary to eventually be put in a position, and why? Because Dean, Gore, and Kerry all lost their campaigns and it would hurt their egos to see Hillary take the POTUS position in my view.

  • Mike J.

This is exactly why I, as a former Democrat, support McCain and Palin. They have genuinely shown themselves to be reformers. They are the genuine articles. Obama only plays that role on TV, in real life he is a corrupt status quo pol.

Palin’s choice, moreover, shows an amazingly nuanced (quality on which allegedly Obama had a monopoly) view of the world and solid judgment. McCain could not have made a better choice. And, really, when is the last time that a VP pick up-ended an election like this?

McCain’s pick also shows him to be comfortable in the presence of someone who has the potential to overshadow him. It shows maturity. Obama has shown none of these things. Thus, overall,I feel very comfortable with the idea of McCain as president, regardless of our policy differences.

  • IronMan

The momentum has definitely shifted to McCain-Palin.

    Let’s Keep Going!

Stand up America! Stand up and fight!

Oh I am so glad to be living in a country where I own my own vote and don’t have to give it to BO!

Proud to send McCain-Palin to Washington to shake things up and get things doen for AMERICA!

Obama needs to just go back to Chicago and start mending those fences, and all those broken down housing projects that he and his crooked cronies were involved in.

  • SFK

Gee, I never thought about Washington, Franklin, and Jefferson (et al) as being community organizers. I guess that makes just about anybody in politics, kids in schoolyards, teachers, the Red Cross–community organizers.

What makes Palin interesting is that she has a set of values and is willing to stand up for them. I don’t have to agree with all her social positions, but then she has no history of inflicting them on anybody else. She does have a history of accomplishment and reform, vs. the Great Bobo Community Organizer.

I agree very much. Watch John McCain at all his appearances with Sarah Palin. Watch his reaction when she gets her thunderous ovations. He beams from ear to ear…and it is the genuine smile of a happy man. Happy not because he feels she gives something TO him, but happy because he is doing something FOR her. He sees in her the future of his party and he stands aside to let her receive all the praise she deserves…

Funny thing is… as much as most of the real America loving democrats fully understand this… the war room “goon squad” are so hate filled they just can’t help themselves. It’s like they are addicted to the fleeting high they get from attacking this woman, her middle American family, her patriotic values and the fact that she is a strong woman… who is strong without needing a feminist value system to fall back on. Gov. Palin is a kind of “kryptonite” for these folks, and they hate her for that. Myself, for the first time in many years, I feel hope. Hope that this nation has it within itself the capacity and the will to heal.

The Republican party is promoting Sarah Palin as a “maverick”. An individual who is willing to take on the “good ole boys” even in her own party. Well Sarah be our guest. If you are truly a “maverick” then turn pivot and look into the face of the most ruthless group of mostly “good ole boys” that our nation has ever had shit on the constitution and undermine National Security.

You go girl. You can start with the false intelligence along with the Niger Documents and just who is responsible for the WMD hogwash. Then you can start to deal with the outing of Valerie Plame, torture, politicizing the Dept of Justice, illegal wiretapping etc.

Steve Schmidt is an American campaign strategist and public relations expert for the U.S. Republican Party.

He specializes in political “message development and strategy”.[1]

A protege of Republican strategist Karl Rove, Schmidt is currently the senior campaign strategist and advisor to the 2008 Presidential campaign of Senator John McCain.[2]

On July 2, 2008, Schmidt was appointed to head up day to day operations of the McCain campaign in response to concerns that the McCain campaign was losing ground to Barack Obama.

Schmidt’s career highlights to date include a stint in 1998 as Communications Director for the Senate campaign of Matt Fong, chief White House strategist in charge of the U.S. Supreme Court nominations of Samuel A. Alito[3] and Chief Justice John Roberts, and Counselor and spokesman for Vice President Dick Cheney.

He worked on the re-election campaign for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.[3]

Schmidt was a member of the exclusive “breakfast club” led by top White House adviser Karl Rove that ran President Bush’s re-election campaign in 2004.

We can talk all day about the issues, which is what we like to do here, the problem is, does a voter just want to hear something simple, because they don’t care to check for themselves? There isn’t any excuse not to know the voting records of any candidate, it is all posted at thomas for the house, on the web. Every piece of legislation that has been introduced shows who, how, when all the information. For an O supporter to spew this crap is to treat American voters as stupid, and maybe they deserve it if they are going to proceed that way. Generalizations don’t cut it, and voting present is just plain politically candy ass. A set up. It shows the politician either can’t make up their mind, doesn’t understand the issue, doesn’t care or is using the present vote, for attendance purposes, as a means to claim political experience.

There isn’t much on previous votes cast by Obama while in the state house for whatever reason, it’s more stupidity as far as I am concerned. that seems to be the general theme anymore; let’s box all American voters into the popular personality theme, and label them as no longer thoughtful about how their government operates or needs to, just long as they vote for the one who is “hot”, f*ck people this isn’t Hollywood. This is the office of President. The idiot media can continue to spew, that’s all they do, nonsensical rantings hoping only to convince someone to vote, the O campaign heads a cast of actors who seek to have the next american idol president; but there are still many of us who will not fall for the transparent, and obvious attempt to redefine our election, or the office of the President. I see a similarity of the o supporters to the group of people that think it’s ok to watch teenage girls beat another into unconsciousness, on u-tube, or see the suicide letter of a teenager who was attacked, smeared on the internet as well. That center will not hold, there will be a great upset for them, that their idol didn’t win, and I will not be surprised if they resort to adult tantrums of violence, claiming they have the right. We have already had racial insults, sexist remarks verging on the imagery of violence, but I really don’t care how foolish they get and how far they go. One would think of not allowing a personal portrait to be painted with such blind faith strokes.

The world is watching, and really wondering, why on earth would we support the independence of another country, when we can’t even agree to treat a woman fairly in our own. This presidential election looks cheap, and staged, like a red carpet moment. The prize isn’t an emmy. The only carrot here is the respect of the American people, with that respect will come the trust and support to rebuild our country.

  • J

another thing Palin completely lied about Iran in her speech. Saying that they had a Nuclear weapons program instead of nuclear program. McCain as well as Palin are completely ignoring the most recent National Intelligence Estimate, and the International Atomic Energy Agencies Director Mr. El Baradei who has repeatedly asked all sides to “turn down the inflammatory rhetoric”. Yet McCain, and now Palin along with John Bolton, Cheney, Doug Feith and the rest of the warmongers who lied this nation into Iraq. McCain will support an attack on Iran based on horseshit and Palin will go along.

    Obama and Biden will not!

Palin also made complete fun of Obama’s commitment to the Geneva Convention, when she said “and he’s worried about reading them their rights”.

But unlike BO, we don’t expect a salary – or an inauguration for it – AND we also hold down a job while volunteering. Has this guy ever really worked at a job? Oh, I know he has had salaried positions, but exactly what has he accomplished?

So, I hope the McCain/Palin team keeps up this line of attack. And there’s plenty more ways to hit him.

We want a hero, not a zero.

This election is about character and experience. It is the strong point for Republicans who can push personal values and issues absolutely do not matter. It is a shame that even at NoQuarterUSA some folks are parroting the anti-Palin trash pushed by the nutroots gangs. My suggestion is to set aside all talk of issues, they don’t matter as it will be a Republican administration with a Democratic Congress. On character and experience you’ve got the important concerns for the election and where Obama is an absolute failure–ties to corruption and not fighting it, ties to terrorism and not fighting it, no executive experience, no real experience period. He’s done nothing but spend other peoples money amongst his friends and associates. His wife has pocketed nearly 3x raise because of his Senate seat and the connection she offered her employer. Obama has ties to people lie terrorist Ayers, Klonksy, and Dohrn, racist black liberation preachers like Meeks and Wright, and so, so many more. These are not the type of people McCain or Palin hang out with. This is the real difference that will win/lose votes.

“do unto others, thou shall not kill, love thy neighbor” Sarah is about as far away from these beliefs as you can get. You can run but she can not hide. She thinks the war in Iraq “is the work of god”.

Over a million dead Iraqi people, 4ooo american soliders dead, 50, ooo injured, 5 million Iraqi people displaced on a pack of lies stuffed down the American people’s throats. Sarah supports this. Don’t look at the Republicans as a monolith. They are a coalition, just like the Dems.

There is the ‘Liberal’ (or statist) half of the party that is similar to the Dems in that they want to see an increase in the reach of the state. This is the Wall Street branch of the party (Bush 1 & 2, Cheney, etc). State interference in the economy slows growth but guarantees profits. Sucks if you are an individual, great if you are a large corp.

Then there’s the old conservative base (small gov, low taxes, balanced budget), Libertarian (small gov, high personal freedom) and the Right to lifers. For a long time, it was the statists and right to lifers that formed the wining coalition.

McCain is running an insurgency within his own party. He basically is trying to form a coalition with the conservatives, right to lifers and libertarians. This hasn’t been done since Reagan. Palin will never be dropped from the ticket. In one person, she embodies organically, the entire coalition.

Don’t you find it interesting that right after Palin and McCain gave their speeches that the market took a dive (300+ points) and they announced a takeover of Fannie May and Freddie?

Even they can see the writing on the wall. The Statists need to clean up just in case McCain/Palin wins.

  • http://NoteToSelfDontDie.com/members/ gerard “Barracuda” Nedich

Hey, Obama, if you need help with women voters, why don’t you send Michelle Obama out on the stump to talk to women?

    well, he tried that today:

Five days after Obama said families are off limits, Michelle Obama feels it necessary to tell us all that the Obama’s will not have anymore kids because the “presidential race is enough additional responsibility”.

The Obama campaign is telling us that Sarah Palin is unfit to run for VP because she has too many young children. The Obama campaign is afferming and endorsing the sexism that has polluted the MSM, the blogs and the rhetoric of the democratic primary.

This announcement tells America that the Obama campaign has nothing left to stand on, nothing left to offer the voters and that they are truly desperate.

More importantly, it also finally unmasks the true origins of the smears spread about Palin’s daughter, the disgusting lies about Palin’s newly born son and the appalling sexism Americans have had to endure over the last year as nothing more than Obama campaign talking points.

Now we just have to wait for Obama to say, “That is not the Michelle I knew”.

“Earlier on the day that Obama visited the nursery school, she addressed a congregation at the Pee Dee Union Baptist Church, in Cheraw, a hamlet of about six thousand known as “The Prettiest Town in Dixie.” The church’s makeshift gravel parking lot, next to the Pee Dee Ice and Fuel Company and bounded by train tracks, was full. After an invocation by the Reverend Jerry Corbett and an introduction by the mayor of Cheraw, Obama came to the pulpit. “You all got up bright and early just for me?” she asked the mostly elderly, almost all-black crowd. “Yes!” they roared. Obama continued, “On behalf of my church home and my pastor, Reverend Wright, I bring greetings.”

Let us pray that we are doing gods work means let us pray that the result of this is good not evil. as in let us pray that going into iraq will end up bringing a better life to these people as a result of the cost they and we are about to pay.

    WHO WAS FOR THE INVASION.
Plus, Clinton bombed them. It is so silly for poeple to act like we never had problems with Iraq. When Bush invaded. They had broken 17 sanctions from the gulf war cease-fire agreement.
Half of these idiot do not even realize we were already at war with Iraq. We were under cease-fire since Bush senior.
Goergie junior was just so stupid he wasn’t upfront and made up some crazy theory and sold the war that way.
Also, we have had casualties and god bless those great men and women. However, compare our casualties to Vietnam, or the civil war. We have done a pretty good job over there. Even when violence was high it would not have been so bad. Politicians have used Iraq as a club for their gain. Instead of supporting the mission and seeing it through.

Seattle Moss, that is exactly it. The guys who did Bush’s foriegn policy were th same guys invlolved in foriegn affairs since the 70′s.
Again, the strategy went sour but guys knew what they wanted to achieve. Wolfowitz was a middle east specalist and had been arguing for saddams overthro for a long time.
Richard Mann wrote a book called rise of the Vulcans that explains Powell,Rice,Wolfowitz,Armitage,Rumsfeild, and Cheney’s experince and all of their time in Gov’t up to the invasion.
Rumsfield was an idiot with the war.
And, guess what his biggest critic was none other than John S. McCain.
Because of McCain we will achieve victory in Iraq.
Honestly, i am hoping we can keep our presence there for a long time. I was really hoping Bush would have gotten a deal for permanent bases.
A democratic ally in the Middle east will be vital for the future. Iraq reall is the central battleground against terror. Look at the nations around it.
It makes me so mad when poeple are to narrow to realize there is much more at stake than just taking down saddam and rebuilding their gov’t.

I think McCain’s speech was one of the most brilliant I have ever heard. Maybe it was because expectations were so low, but I have never heard someone shout their speech over a crowd of cheers for the length of time he did at the end when he called out, “Stand up, stand up and fight” (I’m paraphrasing). That was one of the most moving things I have ever heard and I am not an uber-partiotic being. His personal story of transformation could not have been more perfect. Tailor made. The words delivered the right amount of personal emotion, conveyed with military efficiency. I loved the way he explained how his ego, his self, melted away in captivity and he found himself part of something much larger than self.

I think everyone wants to be part of something bigger than themselves (except one person we know) and that speech, so heartfelt, inspired all, cut across all. It is what we all want, all search for, but rarely grasp. He learned it by living it, and I really believe, skeptic that I am, that he meant it with all his heart.

Are they saying we should vote out all men and women in office with children? Or just women because men have their good little woman at home to take care of the children? What’s wrong with Sarah being a strong woman and Todd playing Mr. Mom? They do realize there are some fantastic single father households do they not? Or are the also promoting that single men should not be taking care of children? Having custody of their children?

They’ve already thrown every mother that has a teenager that has gotten pregnant under the bus. Mothers with special needs children. Single mothers. (I suppose according to these new Democrats they’re supposed to stay at home, live on welfare and take care of their children) Now they’re throwing men under the bus by saying they’re incapable of taking care of their children. They threw all women who believe part of Pro-Choice also includes having the choice of keeping your child. Of course they threw us Hillary supporters under the bus long ago. Is there anyone left they praise? Or is all of America now under the bus. I think they’ve thrown millions of people under the bus in just the past week.

What has Obama done to fight the corruption of Chicago and Illinois politics? What he has done is join in the fun and games with Ayers, Dailey, Rezco and others.

McCain and Palin are the real deal. Sure, the partisans can dig up dirt on either of them, but their real character still comes through.

I am voting for a Republican POTUS ticket for the first time in my life, and that dates to my vote for Carter in ’76.

Huh – are you sure you want to do down that road considering Obama’s 20+ year with his “uncle,” Jeremiah Wright and TUCC? With TUCC’s connection to Farrakhan and Hamas?? REALLY??

And while I am certainly not happy that ANYONE would attend a place of worship that does not accept people fully for who they are, again, Palin isn’t criss-crossing a state with these people. Remember, that is EXACTLY what Obama did when he took the formerly gay but now “CURED” Donnie McClurkin who is ACTIVELY anti-gay all around SC. And Obama counts as one of his closest friends and advisors, State Senator James Meeks, who is also an actively anti-gay minister.

I, for one, have never said I was voting for McCain/Palin. I am definitely NOT voting for Obama, though. I think many of us, after witnessing the Swiftboating of John Kerry, want to make sure that the attacks on Palin are not just visious rumors started by the likes of MoveOn, or sexist diabtribes abt how she should be at home with the children. We want to actually deal with her policies/ideology, and have to weed through all the crap to get there.

And if we didn’t vet Obama, NO ONE would. Given how he got his nomination, he SHOULD have been vetted by the DNC and the MSM, but they failed miserably in their duties. He is unqualified for the post, IMHO.

    My guess is this:

First the Republicans are going to let the sexist thing play out to best effect.

Then they will start dropping the bombs we know on obama in 527 ads and get him on the defensive and off message.

Once they get him and the media going at it full steam they will start lobbing the bombs we don’t know much about yet to devestating effect.

Timing wise it has to be handled very carefully to ensure a nice steady erosion of support for obama.

If its drastic he will give another hopey dopey jedi mind trick speach and have 2 weeks of the Main Stream Media falling all over themselves talking about how the speech transcended himanity to a higher state of conciousness and gave us all angel wings and that is not what they want.

Expect the worst of the shit to hit the fan the last two weeks of october.

It does not help the Republicans to be very far ahead of obama going into the voting at all. It could supress turnout for them with the “oh he has it in the bag i dont need to vote” crowd.

But Lets not forget Republicans historicly turn out to vote, dems are more iffy.

And energized republicans really turn out to vote. And They are energized right now.

No, it means he’s a politician willing to do whatever it takes to win an election. McCain has never struck me as a warm, genuinely-caring individual towards the common (or even uncommon) man, and neither is his ice queen who’s so fragile her arm is in a sling after someone shakes her hand. Neither he nor that idiot Obama and his supremely-egotistical wife care about serving the American people. Admit it, the 2008 presidential election is a no-win situation. We get crap no matter which way it ends up.

    Undecided,
Thanks for coming here and for commenting. We are a rather scurvy bunch… a “mutt” of necessity who is, to my utter joy of heart, coming closer together the more we see differences in each other. Our common bond, the eradication of an evil man’s efforts to steal a political party and then a nation, has forged a tougher alloy than any of the other political combinations seen heretofore.
We are united in our differences… just the way Ben Franklin said it in those terrible, fatal days, “Either we hang together, or we will most certainly hang separately.”
We get that. We understand. If Obama wins, our rights to vote, already taken from some of us, will be taken from us all. We won’t get another at bat. No “next hand.”
Obama wants to “Change” the way we do things. Permanently. If he is elected there will be no “Hope” of putting things back. Protocols already exist under Federal Law which can suspend not only habeas corpus, but all of your civil rights. GW could have but never did use it.
I do not have nearly as much confidence that Barry, who has no discernible will power whatsoever, would be able to “just say no…”
    regards

Okay, a little History lesson for Ms. Fuller:

John and Sam Adams were both ELECTED officials in the Colony of Massachusetts.

Ben Franklin an ELECTED official in Pennsylvania.

George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both were ELECTED officials in the Virgina House of Burgesses.

So, all these great men were actually working for a government BEFORE the Revolution. It just happens that the government was corrupt, unfair, and needed to be overthrown for the benefit of all Americans.

The Founding Fathers were community organizers?

    Uh, not so much.

They were uncommonly wise and brave politicians that had the guts to STAND UP FOR AMERICA.

    Sound Familiar?

Here’s some info for the PALIN KILLS WOLVES smear:

According to Defenders of Wildlife, there are 7,000 – 11,000 wolves in Alaska. With 656,424 square miles and (on average) 9,000 wolves, that is 0.01 wolves per square mile. Under Republican governor Sarah Palin, each year about 1,000 wolves are killed legally as part of wolf population management. This represents 9-14% of the population culled each year.

    http://www.defenders.org/programs_and_policy/wildlife_conservation/imperiled_species/wolves/wolf_recovery_efforts/alaska_wolves/background/index.php

In the June 2, 2008 issue of “EnviroWonk.com”, Democratic Governor Brian Schweiter of Montana bragged that Montana is “committed to maintaining over 100 individuals or 15 breeding pairs and currently has ‘close to five times that’.” This is 150 wolves). With an area of 147165 square miles, Montana has 0.001 wolves per square mile or 1/10th as many wolves per unit of area as Alaska has. Nevertheless, even with such a small number of wolves, MT Fish & Game are planning to allow hunting of up to 75 wolves this year. That is a ‘cull’ of 50% of the wolf population.

    http://envirowonk.com/content/view/229/1/

So … Democratic governor of western state is less ‘friendly’ to wolves than Sarah Palin!

“The fact is that many of us give long and hard of ourselves in our local communities. But unlike BO, we don’t expect a salary – or an inauguration for it.”

You’re so right. Obama picked community organizing as a path into a political career. It’s easy for an activist to network with the political elite (state legislators, councilmembers, city commissioners, etc.) because you’re doing their job, solving their problems and letting them take the credit. Obama wanted to cash in on the political contacts he made.

  • TwoTermObama

In answer to all your questions: I’m fourteen years old.

  • ewillers

I just watched the Van Susteren show on Palin also.

I think Palin is the “Terminator” to Obama.

She represents a major cultural shift in American politics. A step back towards rugged individualism, self reliance, ingenuity, and compassion that characterizes the original American ideal.

This is in contrast to the collectivist and Marxist nightmare that Obama (from the Saul Alinsky school of political agitation – aka: “community orginizing”), is trying to foist on the American people.

Oh, and BTW, the video on Van Susterens’s show destroyed the “not pregnant” theory…and the thing is…they knew this since last April and they let you chumps spin on your conspiracy theories…LOL

  • fluffy bunny

For the “McCain is just a typical republican” folks.

Er, no. Here’s a doctrinaire republican explaining the party’s discomfort with McCain. And the thing from his speech when he swore to veto pork filled bills and make the congressperson who requested the crap famous? GOP Senator (and friend of Trent Lott) Thad Cochran smeared McCain for having too hot of a temper after he was on the receiving end of exactly that kind of lecture.

    Here’s the Weekly Standard article:
    http://www.weeklystandard.com/Content/Public/Articles/000/000/015/528sodks.asp

President Bush was confronted with exactly this circumstance–Democratic control of Congress–after the election of 2006. Without solid Republican backing in the Senate, his controversial troop surge that has turned around the situation in Iraq would have been jeopardized or halted altogether. Though many Republican senators were wary of his Iraq policy, Bush kept their support in part by accommodating them on other issues, such as earmarks.

Should McCain try to impose his every wish on congressional Republicans, he’d risk alienating them. If he brushed them aside in pursuit of bipartisan compromises with Democrats, that would make matters worse. It would split Republicans and wipe out hopes of a full recovery by the party from its collapse two years ago.

According to a former Bush administration official who worked closely with congressional Republicans, McCain would begin his White House term with “less good will and felt loyalty” among members of his own party than any president in memory. Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell, for instance, once referred to McCain as a “bridge burner.” That’s not a compliment.

And sorry Fred, but McCain started saying that we were losing Iraq because of too few troops and too hesitant tactics way back in 2005. Bush only decided to propose the surge after his party lost congress in 2006.

Wow. Just tuned into CNN briefly, and in a few short minutes at the top of the hour, I witnessed some of the most blatantly biased “coverage” of Sarah Palin, unbelievably negative, biased, gotcha coverage. The smug weekend anchor started off with footage of her sportscasting days, ran the clip of her joking at the convention about hockey moms and lipstick – her only joke in the speech, made when the teleprompter was running amuck, and of course he didn’t bother showing any clips of her amazing jabs at the MSM and Obama during that speech.

Then, this self-important, stuffed suit asked how this woman could possibly be considered for VP, snidely noting that she was the mayor of a small town that was “let’s face it, smaller than some high schools” — WHAT? I’ve never heard of a high school with 9,000/10,000 students.

He did mention that she was a governor, but of a state with a tiny population, no mention, of course, of Alaska’s strategic and immense natural resources, or how Palin has deftly managed them, or how she went against the oil companies and was the politician who finally got a natural gas pipeline underway (after decades of failed attempts), or her 80% approval rating.

Totally disgusted, I switched channels. CNN you are in the tank for Obama. It’s so obvious. Can’t wait for the VP debate. You will look like fools. Won’t watch CNN again. Period.

  • s. hall

Harp — Obama did a town meeting today and a woman asked him about the economy — he said that’s tough question because there are so many way to answer it. Then things deteriorated from there — Obama was unable to answer any question put to him. Sarah Palin boned up in one weekend on everything McCain stood for. Obama has had 20 months and he still can’t speak without a teleprompter.

If I were an advisor to Obama (not that I’m any expert mind you, these are just my opinions), I would try to get the focus off of Palin because she is very popular and the attacks just keep her in the spotlight. It would be better to let her fade into the background. Also to keep harping on her possible shortcomings, like perceived lack of experience and her youth, it only magnifies that Obama has those issues. Duh! What a bunch of idiots. I hope they are not getting paid much! Well, as a McCain supporter I do. Go waste that money Barky! How stupid. The end of that Boston Globe article:

In addition to irking some senators in his fights against farm subsidies and earmarks, McCain has upset many conservatives by his support for campaign finance laws that place limits on special interest money. McCain’s investigation of Indian gaming practices helped land tribal lobbyist Jack Abramoff in jail and also presented information that proved embarrassing for a number of Republicans.

McCain often notes that his early complaints about the way former defense secretary Donald Rumsfeld handled the Iraq war earned him rebukes from Republicans, but his view became accepted and Rumsfeld resigned.

Senator Susan M. Collins, a moderate Maine Republican, said she decided to support McCain based on his character even though she disagreed with him on some issues.

“People tend to feel very strongly about John both ways,” Collins said. “Those of us who admire and like him stand by him 100 percent and think so highly of him. . . . Those whom he has tangled with in the past, some of those people bear grudges and feel strongly against him in the opposite direction.”

Senator Joseph I. Lieberman, the Connecticut independent who has endorsed McCain, said, “I always tell him he reminds me of an uncle of mine. You could get into an argument with him, then you’d see him a half-hour later and it was like nothing happened.”

Lieberman stressed that “it is not the kind of anger that is a loss of control. He is a very controlled person.”

Sasha Issenberg of the Globe staff contributed to this report.

Definitely fear the theocracy guys. Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins are only supporting McCain because they are closet Christian Dominionists. I read it on Daily Kos, so I know it’s true!

I already responded to her in a private email and told her she might want to rethink what her definition of feminism is and how high the bar has to be before a someone with a vagina can ride that ride of equality…is it only those who have a vagina and agree with the lefts views on woman’s issues are truly feminists and true women?

Sometimes the people who want change are the ones who stand in their own way.

well not in those words but basicly.

interestingly enough – over the past few months I have used every opportunity to talk politics with anyone who would listen. Since Wednesday evening people I have least expected contacted me to discuss Sarah Palin. While the bleeding heart liberal democrats are crying their eyes out, conservative America (democrats and republicans) LOVE HER.

FF, you know, I was the 1st female on our male dominated tennis team. I was the first femalein our schools welding class. I was also the first female union rep and mail carrier when I worked for the post office. I consider myself to be a feminist. But let me say that when I represented other women, I represented all. Not just those who had the same ideas that I had. I lean more conservative, but I respected all women and fought for all women. Gloria can go to hell. She is totally irrelavant. I will be voting for McCain/Palin as will most women I know and had represented. Guess Gloria will just have to deal with it.

    So much for McCain’s “bump”.

Gallup Daily: Obama’s Edge Shrinks to 2 Points September 6, 2008
Barack Obama’s lead over John McCain has been shrinking since the start of the Republican National Convention, and he now holds just a two percentage point advantage — 47% to 45% — making the race too close to call.

“Let me state at the outset that I like Sarah Palin because she has shown the ability to take on entrenched interests–the Republican Party of Alaska and the Oil and Gas Industry. Her social conservatism is irrelevant to me. Why? Because she has demonstrated that her priority is fixing government waste and abuse rather than focusing her energies on bedroom or pecker politics.”

It’s not just that – her social conservatism is irrelevant. As VP, she has no power to enact some social conservative agenda. McCain will put her to work on reform and energy. That’s a no brainer.

John McCain’s campaign saw a $4 million fundraising surge the day after Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was named to join him on the Republican ticket.

I’m sure campaingning is grueling, but there are worse jobs, as many of us know. It is an attitude, if accurate, that doesn’t sit well with me. If you don’t like campaigning and if you don’t like Americans, then yes, I guess it would seem like a sacrifice. To get as far as he has gotten should be seen a privilege. Who wouldn’t feel privileged to be treated like a rock star, running for President of the U.S.? What kind of people wouldn’t be moved to feel as if they were part of something monumental, something so much bigger than their puny selves and to feel humbled and grateful for the opportunity and the experience alone? I just don’t get them. They act as if it is no more important to them than the crappy 5 star food they’ve had to eat and the private jet lag they’ve had to suffer.

    Diana,
So true. With most Americans under the bus, who is left to vote for Obama? The “slash and burn” strategy seemed to work with some democrats during the democratic primaries but on the national stage, it’s not playing very well at all.

Why not? Maybe because the republicans are standing behind Palin and also because we Clinton supporters will not let this happen to another woman.

Call me a “pollyanna” but I still believe there are more decent and honorable people in this country than there are thugs and “mean people.” The unbridled personal attacks on Palin and her family by the MSM and the Obama campaign, as well as some democratic party leaders make the rest of us cringe. Decent people empathize with the ones who are being unfairly attacked – not the attackers.

If for no other reason than the above, I see that the McCain/Palin ticket will be a “winner” come November. Furthermore at least in my family, my husband and I intend to do what we can to help put McCain/Palin in the Oval Office.

Actually, I believe Barry told O’Reilly that the surge worked “beyond anyone’s wildest dreams” but knowing that, still would have opposed it. Huh?

Of all the scary things about Obama (inexepericne, dishonesty, misogyny, racist, anti-American, corrput and terrorist friends and associates, etc.) one of the scariest is Barry’s absolute inability to EVER admit he was wrong about anything.

In that respect, he is exactly like George W. Bush.

He “clarifies” his comments (i.e., tells all us idiots how we were suppposed to take them)and “distances himself” from close frineds when they become political liabilities, but he almost never admits he was wrong and apologizes.

If Barry is elected, I have little doubt he will stubbornly continue every failed policy and never learn from his mistakes.

I don’t think that’s true. Only four of McCain’s aides knew Palin was his choice. If the decision were made by other people, it would have leaked out. Harriet Christian said at a meeting with 70 Hillary Clinton supporters in June, Palin’s name was one of a few mentioned. They all aproved. ?He got feedback from people and took a risk. I don’t even think Rove knew who it would be. And he knows it’s a winning ticket, but that’s not calculating of him in the cynical sense. It’s his instincts; it’s just who he is. He’s a gambler who takes calculated risks and has had incredible luck this year. He knows he’s old, and he’s happy to see he is doing something momentous. McCain is a man who obviously thinksd of life in bigger terms than just politics.

“…once women begin to fully understand..” You know, as a woman I am really tired of being talked down to.

When I was 3 years old and misbehaved, my grandmother, bless her, would threaten to take a devil’s Hallowe’en mask out of a high cupboard and show it to me. I was deathly afraid of that mask and she knew it. I would always say, “No, no don’t do it, I’ll be good”. When I got a little older, she discovered it didn’t work on me anymore. It was, after all, just a mask, and really not that scary. Your threat of a “conservative social agenda” is that devil’s mask. I learned my lesson about bullies long ago.

To J the Nincompoop. Approximately 40% of those “Bush” votes were votes related to the Iraq war: funding bills, cutting off funding bills (dems won first time with 52 votes and Bush vetoed, veto was sustained, dems kept bringing up the same bill time and time again getting less and less votes), surge policy, and inconsequential bills that pass overwhelmingly, e.g. naming a post office. Now for the other important stuff he voted against every pork barrel spending bill, torture, the Cheney energy bill that Obama supported and others I have not listed. We do not want another Bush term. Electing Obama means we have another Bush in the white house; an inexperienced liar. Why the h*ll would we want to do that?,

Thinking carefully is not “In line” with the leader’s present requirements.
The Republicans share a common bond with us scurvy lot.
They will not be intimidated or swayed from what most of us see as a duty. We believe in Country First. For the most part, so do they. The ones who don’t feel that way are as filled with hate as all of Obama’s mentors. The remainder have shown themselves as being desirous of reaching out to us and finding the things we have in common AND DOING THOSE THINGS. That’s what Country First is about. The Republicans are saying things to us which strike a harmonious chord in many areas and it will be those things we’ll work together on.
Bill said it damn well when he was asked how he would vote.
I’m paraphrasing here… if you have the quote, toss it in…
“If two guys are running for office and you agree with most of what one guy believes and about half of what the other guy believes, but know that the guy you agree with more won’t get anything done, and that the guy your half with will get it all done, who do you vote for?”

    Jimbo, this was for you:

It was from the Boston Globe, that far right crackpot publication.

“why the hate? it’s very simple. if you are happy with your current situation vote mccain. if you want change vote obama. it is that simple.”

No, Palin/McCain are the only true reformers. If you want change, vote Palin/McCain. If you want more Washington-insider corruption, where politicians only care about themselves, vote Obama/Biden. It’s that simple.

  • Freedom Fighter

Zogby is the least reliable of the polling firms. All the others still have Obama up.

  • jimbo

After the rnc fascist freakshow in Minn you’re calling obama brownshirts? Larry, where do you get these people?

  • FUCK YOU MICHELLE OBAMA

People sit around and discuss Palin’s ovaries, but no one discusses Michelle Obama’s lack of patriotism or her race baiting. She also lied on TV, when she said she loved her children. She took them to Reverend Wright, who baptized them. Who the hell does Michelle Obama think she is?

Palin decides to sell the plane and to live without the Governor’s cook, but Michelle has a personal fashion designer? Michelle is out of touch. Michelle also has a housekeeper.

  • Hope Floats

No, actually Jerry Falwell is dead, too. Why should she battle the media? She’s supposed to be campaigning for McCain. They’re ignoring the media like McCain has been forever, and AGAIN Sarah is obviously supposed to energize the base. Obama has pissed off at least a third of his base.

  • Freedom Fighter

Look, this is old news, and the media has already gone through it. These are non-issues, that’s why no one talks about them.

Now that the Republicans have gone too far with their smears, Obama is ready to fight back.

OK, McCain and William Kristol are friends, but how is Palin a NEOCON?!!! lol.

In other words, Patrick/Kinnock…I mean Obama/Biden (I keep getting the originals mixed up with the plagiarists) will allow Iran to obtain nuclear weapons and destroy Israel and put those weapons in the hands of terrorists.

  • Disgusted

Oh I thought he was. Anyone remember Georgia is in play? How about North Carolina is in play? How about South Carolina is in play? Virginia? Shall I go on? Remember when Hillary was saying that she wins all the democratic states? Wasn’t the response that “Obama is gonna change the map”? What happened? Let me get this straight then, if you look at the primary map, and compare it to the 2004 GE, Obama and Bush won the same states. Now he won’t deliver a single one of them? Whoulda thunk it.

  • Freedom Fighter

Sarah Palin’s numbers are high right now because the American public doesn’t know her very well. The public is only hearing the McCain campaign’s pro-Palin propaganda so far. However, if you take a quick scan of the news articles regarding Sarah Palin, you will notice they are about 95% negative. Once the American people get to know her better, she will make George Bush look popular by comparison.

  • jimbo

she has stated she has no problem with allowing creationist discussions in schools. Creationism = religion, according to our judiciary. palin is enabling religion, that is her agenda. That agenda is supported by her religionist masters, who put her into the position she is in, not mccain.

  • McKatmoon

No. Obama is the race baiter, lying on the Clinton in order to win the SC primary and the southern primaries. I am an AA female supporter of Hillary who marched with Dr. King in standing up to the race-baiters of that time, i.e. George Wallace, Lester Maddox, et. al. In Nov. I will do my duty again and stand up against the new Wallace and Maddox the new lying race-baiter Obama, by voting for McCain.

Many folks who were originally against the war are now seeing past the mistakes made.
All wars are messy and unjust for the victims.
However, I believe that History will vindicate Bush and people will look past the everyday horror of this war and see that our way of life and that of the western civilized world was worth protecting.

BULLSHIT THESE ARE NON-ISSUES! THESE ARE ISSUES THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THE REAL AMERICAN PEOPLE. Do not think the American people are really that impressed with things like taking the Pledge of Allegiance out of our schools and not given the American Flag the respect it deserves. It is the democrats who are throwing away Pride in our country, and it is so obvious even today. Uh, but you are dressed as one.
    WITCH:
They dressed me up like this.

    Augh, we didn’t! We didn’t…
    WITCH:
And this isn’t my nose. It’s a false one.
    BEDEVERE:
    Well?
    VILLAGER #1:
Well, we did do the nose.
    BEDEVERE:
    The nose?

    VILLAGER #3:
    I got better.

    Burn her! Burn! Burn her!…
    BEDEVERE:
Quiet! Quiet! Quiet! There are ways of telling whether she is a witch.
    VILLAGER #1:
    Are there?
    VILLAGER #2:
    Ah?
    VILLAGER #1:
    What are they?
    CROWD:
    Tell us! Tell us!…

    Burn! Burn them up! Burn!…
    BEDEVERE:
And what do you burn apart from witches?
    VILLAGER #1:
    More witches!
    VILLAGER #3:
    Shh!
    VILLAGER #2:
    Wood!
    BEDEVERE:
    So, why do witches burn?
    [pause]
    VILLAGER #3:
    B–… ’cause they’re made of… wood?
    BEDEVERE:
    Good! Heh heh.
    CROWD:
    Oh, yeah. Oh.
    BEDEVERE:
So, how do we tell whether she is made of wood?
    VILLAGER #1:
Build a bridge out of her.
    BEDEVERE:
Ah, but can you not also make bridges out of stone?
    VILLAGER #1:
    Oh, yeah.
    RANDOM:
    Oh, yeah. True. Uhh…
    BEDEVERE:
    Does wood sink in water?
    VILLAGER #1:
    No. No.
    VILLAGER #2:
    No, it floats! It floats!
    VILLAGER #1:
    Throw her into the pond!
    CROWD:
The pond! Throw her into the pond!
    BEDEVERE:
    What also floats in water?
    VILLAGER #1:
    Bread!
    VILLAGER #2:
    Apples!
    VILLAGER #3:
    Uh, very small rocks!
    VILLAGER #1:
    Cider!
    VILLAGER #2:
    Uh, gra– gravy!
    ARTHUR:
    A duck!
    CROWD:
    Oooh.
    BEDEVERE:
    Exactly. So, logically…
    VILLAGER #1:
    If… she… weighs… the same as a duck,… she’s made of wood.
    BEDEVERE:
    And therefore?
    VILLAGER #2:
    A witch!
    VILLAGER #1:
    A witch!
    CROWD:
    A witch! A witch!…

Damn.. can we just get all this crap over with and vote already?
I don’t like Palin. She’s no feminist. And if some crazed people on the right want to pretend she is–well, then, screw them. Soon “feminist” will be a washed-out word like “racist” has become.

I’m holding my nose and voting McCain because Obama is a f-ing psychopath. But turning Palin into Mother Theresa is getting really irritating.

Let’s get this over with already. Come on November!

  • Seattle Moss

    Poor Jimbo,
I will take Palin’s church over Obama’s church any day.
The bottom line is that Obama and Wright are a threat to the nation with their black Marxist liberation theology, which looks at whites as the inferior race and looks to overthrow Western tradition.

I don’t have a problem with them turning Palin into Mother Teresa…i think its hilarious and fun. Its a direct backlash to the Ocultists turning Bacrackhead Obullshitartist into the Omessiah.

The difference is that while the latter was done on the backs of a bunch of morons who faint on command, the Mother Teresa-ing of Palin is being participated in willingly by many as payback not because they actually think she is Mother Teresa reborn.

But yeah, i would love the Election to be tomorrow.

The sooner i have to stop hearing about Barrack America and his Youth Movement and Planet Healing Gia Powers the better.

  • jimbo

I have no problem with McCain, might have voted for him if palin had not been chosen as VP candidate. I will never vote for a religionist in the White House. If you can’t understand why allowing the religious right a foothold into the White House and the effect of that on women’s rights, separation of church and state, and other important human freedom issues, well, I’m not going to be able to convince you.

What a cowardly statement! You are a hate-filled coward using you anonmymity on the internet to blast somebody you don’t even know. Have any of you gone to McCain/Palin website/blog?
You would not believe all of the Obama supporters are in it spreading filth and lies. They troll the board night and day, that is just so wrong! But McCain does not block them due to freedom of speech. Then check out the Obama blog and see how the blog is not objective, they only post the messages they think are ok. Who would you rather support, Freedom of speech or opression? One other thing, it is small but really impressed me, McCain has items for sale that are recycled and made in the USA. ;-)

you ain’t too good at math are you

Clinton voters in the primary were over 18 million

Reports are saying as high as 1/3 Clinton supporters will NOT VOTE for Obama

Primary voters were NOT all the voters that HRC drew… so let’s say HRC voters would be 50% of 56 million

1/3 of them will not vote for Obama, that number is 18 million.

That can put Mccain/Palin in the WH in a landslide

but don’t worry, we’re getting over it (the caucus fraud, the misogyny, the race-baiting and that lying, pandering, vacuous ass called Obama)

  • Above My Pay Grade

    ROTFL!!!

The youth and cell phone only vote will carry the day!

Google “youth vote John Kerry” and you will see how that was the rallying cry in 2004 and how it failed.

There was also lots of talk of how Kerry voters were being under sampled because many were cell phone only.

Pollsters are apparently now calling cell phones, (Gallup specifically mentions them in its releases) so the cell phone bias thing is pure myth now.

The youth vote ALWAYS disappoints, ALWAYS.

Besides that, recent polls have shown that young voters who were ecstatic about Obama several months ago are now much more lukewarm. He has lost the aura of a great reformer and “new kind of politican” and is seen as a typical politician.

On the other hand, all three wings of the Republican party are fired up over Palin. Social Conservatives, Fiscal Conservatives and National Security Conservatives all love her and view her as “one of us”.

I believe that Zerobama’s actual vote numbers will be at least 2 or 3 points below the final polls and perhaps double that, because of:

    1) A slight Bradley effect.

    2) Last minute lingering doubts about his experience, toughness, honesty, true beliefs on race, loyalty to America, and general preparedness for the highest office in the world.

It seems to me, that Obama as POTUS seems “cool” (for lack of a better word) when the electon is far off, but the closer you get to election day the riskier it seems and many will go with the stable choice of John McCain.

I’m betting almost 1% of the public will drive to their polling place planning to vote Obama, but will change their minds in the voting booth.

All that probably won’t matter anyway, as McCain will likely be ahead 5 or more points by the the end of October.

  • http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TG4fe9GlWS8 Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright

  • destardi

…yea, because accusing Sarah Palin as being involved in a plot from DALLAS aka, faking her pregnancy is WAAAAAY more questionable than 20 years of “goddamn amerikkka”, Louis Farrakhan, Ayers, Rezko, who paid Obama’s tuition, obama’s vote for retro_FISA immunity, his race baiting of two first class liberal leaders, his vote for cheney’s energy bill, his wanting to INCREASE faith based initiatives.

  • mimi

“Obama and Biden are committed to diplomacy with Iran.”

I’m pretty fed up with this leftwing white notion that only 0bama can heal and save the world because he’s a man of color. Like people of color get along so famously. Like the Shia and Sunni and Kurds get along so well that we can dance out of Iraq tomorrow.

There is no basis for believing in 0bama’s incredible diplomacy skills. Has he spent extensive time in the Mid-East? At least he’s not mentioning it so I have to assume he hasn’t. What makes him so cocksure that he’s capable of dealing with Iran and Ahmajdinejad? Did he study about the mid-east in college? What exactly does he know about the history and culture of Iran that McCain or any other American doesn’t know? Does he speak Arabic?

This is the biggest load of dung they’ve been selling this whole Primary. That 0bama by virtue of his skin color will set a tone internationally and resurrect the American image. What are these people smoking? There is no reason for Iran to alter their agenda for 0bama. If he were the president, he’d be in power no more than 8 years. And then what? Iran has an agenda. No one likes to talk about it out loud, but we all know what it is. And nothing 0bama could say is going to change that longterm.

These leaders plan to punk 0bama if he becomes POTUS. While he goes about his naïve diplomacy, they’ll be scheming behind his back. Without going over the past, but haven’t we learned our lesson about getting in bed with these guys? It’s only a matter of time before they change their minds. And then they know as much as we know.

If America was so concerned about the appearance of racism from outside our shores, then we should have done something about that long ago. It’s certainly clear now that we need to address these issues. But electing 0bama is not the solution. He’s simply not prepared. And I’m tired of him and his people trying to pull this massive guilt trip that only him getting presidency will expunge America’s sins. This is what has the black community so hysterical. They are throwing the baby out with the bathwater just to get this man elected. And it doesn’t matter how many babies get thrown out.

Nothing going on in the middle east or in Africa today, should make us feel that people of color have a leg up on diplomatic relations. The tribal feuds alone should make us leery. And it’s quite possible that in the long run, leaders like Ahjmadinejad might develop more animosity for an uncooperative 0bama presidency. At least Mahmoud knows what he’s getting with McCain. With 0bama, he’s licking his chops. If he doesn’t get what he wants, then 0bama is useless to him. And what he wants may not be in America’s best interest.

We need a president who at least understands diplomatic relations and who has the smarts not to be outwitted or outfoxed by a world leader with a sinister agenda.

rollin’s statement would have validity about an unpopular choice. but considering palin is polling higher than the other candidates, having her out front and center is not a sign of trouble, but a sign of strength.

Jimmy Carter is tired of hearing it

He is also probably tired of hearing how his unpreparedness for his job helped lead to the rise of radical Islam. Or how he “gave away” the Panama Canal. Or how he “told” us all how warm we were allowed to set our thermostats. Or how he helped us define a new economic term… “stagflation”. Or that the prime rate when he was President was 21.5%. I remember Jimmy well. So does Iran. I watched Jimmy as his hair literally turned white over the course of a year. In all of this, I think Jimmy did his best… and I think he “meant” well. I wish the Obamabots were either old enough to remember this time… or else they would take the time to read about this. Well said!

Speaking of Michelle Obama and her fat raise, while watching the video introducing Cindy McCain, that contrast between the two potential First Ladies was striking.

Cindy is a philanthropist who founded a program and has flown around the world to give medical care to those who need it but cannot afford or access.

Michelle gets a huge salary from a hospital and helped create a program to steer patients without medical insurance, ELSEWHERE.

The Democratic Party is going to die if it does not get rid of the Obama-style, faux-Liberalism, where hypocrites cry crocodile tears over the plight of the poor, criticize America and Americans (who do give generously) for not doing enough (see Barack at Saddleback), yet do nothing for the poor themselves.

  • Boudica

I’m not over it. I am one of those Hillary Clinton supporters who refuses to vote for that eunuch fraudulently installed by the DNC. The media as well as Obama’s campaign have marginalized and underestimated the number of Americans disenfranchised by the rampant misogynism displayed during this campaign. Come November, they’re in for a rude awakening. That said, I won’t vote for that imbecile McCain either, even if I do admire his choice for vice-president. Even if it is “wasting” my vote, I will be writing in the name of the best qualified person for the job, Hillary Rodham Clinton. The strength and integrity of my beliefs is more important than misguided party loyalty. That is putting Country First (to quote a lame-ass catch phrase).

  • IndianaDem

Nobody in the McCain camp seems the least bit concerned about the deliberate republican distortions of Palin’s record.

That she’s opposed to lobbyists and earmarking in obviously b.s. As mayor, she hired professional lobbyists bring in over $27 million in earmarked federal money for Wasilla. Her record shows she has consistantly played the system she pretends to object to.

Her opposition to and refusal of “bridge to nowhere” money is more b.s. She actively pursued funds for that very project, and got them. What she did was refuse afterward to use the money for the project she promoted to get it. The federal funds weren’t returned. They were diverted to other uses. The woman is characterizing an act of duplicity to get funds as a principled stand against wasteful spending. If she’s so damn principled, she should return the funds to the taxpayers of the 49 states she doesn’t represent.

She claims she sold the former governor’s jet on eBay at a profit. Uh, no. This is more flatout b.s. She listed it on eBay as a political stunt. She ultimately sold by way of a private to an Alaska businessman. At a $600,000 loss to the Alaska taxpayers, btw.

Three serious, undeniable distortions of the facts–lies, if you will–during Sarah Palin’s very first speech to the American people. She repeated them at the convention during her acceptance speech. She’s repeated them since, as has John McCain.

What I’m seeing here is someone who deliberately distorts the facts with flat-out lies to inflate their own public image. She shamelessly continues to tell the same stories, even when they’ve been refuted with the unquestionable, inarguable evidence of public record. She lies while looking the camera square in the eye. She uses tall tales as illustrations of her own high-minded virtue.

I don’t consider it an unfair attack to point out the obvious: Palin has deliberately distorted the truth–the basic facts–every time she’s spoken to the American people. If you vote for her, you should vote with the understanding that you’re electing another republican who lies as a matter of convenience.

  • jbjd

jimbo, both President Bush and Senator McCain are Republicans. Thus, the fact their views are quite similar is inconsequential. What is indicative of Senator McCain’s independence from Republican dogma is his voting record, against President Bush and other Republican senators (like on the issue of immigration).

  • Heather

Speaking of distorting the truth… How about this one?

McCain won’t even chase Bin Laden to the cave where he lives

“The One” will not go into Pakistan to look for Bin Laden. Plus, McCain served this country in the military. Obama has not, and to date I don’t recall anybody confirming that he ever registered for selective service as was mandated by Ronald Reagan for every male in the country over the age of 18.

  • Ramblin’ Rose

    Jump in at any time.

I’m not for Sarah for what she stands for aside from her personal integrity and her ambition to clean out scoundrels. I’m totally against Obama. All along we Hill fans have loved Hill but we’ve also despised Obama. And the DNC never got that. They did not understand there were two things going on.

I think McCain pulled the coup of the century. No one has ever risen to such prominence and popularity as fast as Sarah Palin. No one ever. The RNC was after the DNC – bad move for the DNC. McCain sat and waited for them to play all their cards out – and then finessed them with one swift deft move. It was brilliant.

It’s the ray of light and breath of fresh air we’ve all been waiting for after a long campaign where we saw our candidate trashed mercilessly time and again. I could enumerate all the crimes Obama committed but the list is too long. Everyone wants Obama gone.

But backing Sarah now is a tactical move. It will never mean we support her other views. Never. And yet looking at these threads it’s obvious people change their opinions about everything just as soon as they switch horses. That’s not very mature and that’s not the way to achieve your goals.

It’s late and past my bed and honestly I hang out here because I like you am anxious about what’s going on. There was a chance for greatness there – its name was Hillary. That’s gone for now. But there’s been a shadow on the land as if Sauron came back. And that shadow changed everything. And for now we need Sarah and McCain.

    - There were no WMDs in Iraq. Most of us realised this all along. The war is not right. Wars never are. This one was justified with a series of lies. One of Larry’s friends got toasted because he refused to go along with the lying.

    - There is no social cohesion to the US. I think Hillary had a better chance than anyone. As does Paul Krugman. But McCain’s social policies will not do it. Nor will Sarah’s. Saying healthcare puts a bureaucrat between the patient and his doctor is just bullshit. Without the bureaucrat… And how do you define bureaucrat? Perhaps you can call your HMO bureaucrats? The people in the US have the most fucked up health system in the world. And they don’t need Michael Moore to point this out. All the while Cuba send out doctors to thirty countries. Think about it.

    - You’re being screwed. How many years do you have to work to get just two weeks paid vacation? How many years do they have to work to get three times that in the UK? In Germany? You’re being screwed.

McCain and Sarah aren’t going to solve this for you. I’m not saying Obama is a better bet – he scares the shit out of sensible people. But don’t for a moment think the actual policies of McCain and Sarah are going to be any elixir. It will be a long four years.

And you still don’t know Hillary will ever want to come back. So it’s pretty bleak. But there’s no other way but to keep on fighting. Just please remember one thing: just because you realise the enemy of your enemy is your friend doesn’t mean you have to agree with those people on anything except the common enemy.

    Keep your heads. Thank you.

Well, RICH people ARE THE ONES WHO give the welfare queens and their 3-5 kids (from 3-5 different fathers) foodstamps, WIC, a place to live – and THEY DON’T HAVE TO WORK FOR IT(gotta make more kids, probably).

And, of course, the Middle Class Working people pay for the lazy a##es, too! I’m sure everyone on this forum LOVES giving up their hard-earned money to ‘help’ the ‘LAZY, poor welfare/drug addicts’. Of course, there are people who ACTUALLY DO need help – and we’re all glad to help with our tax dollars; but we don’t get to CHOOSE which ones we get to help!

Here Freedom…you ought to REALLY enjoy this post

David Axelrod, Schmidt’s opposite number, admitted that the Obama campaign had been caught on the hop by Palin’s nomination: “I can honestly say we weren’t prepared for that. I mean, her name wasn’t on anybody’s list.”
(OMG…THE PRECIOUS CAUGHT FLAT FOOTED, SOMETHING HE COULDN’T STEAL, LIE OR CHEAT INTO NON-EXISTENCE)

The cool “no drama” Obama was mocked in St Paul as an effete liberal, whose “pretty” speeches paled in comparison with Palin’s blazing guns rhetoric. An explicit contrast was drawn between her patriotism – Track, her 19-year-old son, is about to be deployed to Iraq – and Obama’s critique of America after eight years of the Bush administration.

“When Obama says he wants change, he means he wants to change Americans,” said Grover Norquist, an influential Republican tax reform lobbyist. “One message of change is pro-American, the other isn’t. Obama thinks there is something wrong with us.” The Republican convention had begun with delegates boasting that their side had their ticket the “right way up” with experience at the top and charisma to support it, unlike Obama and Joe Biden, his 65-year-old running mate. But Palin’s astonishing raw political talent has allowed her to hijack the election to a degree which terrifies some wise heads.

I don’t understand how defending the illegitimately promoted invasion of another country counts as patriotism towards one’s own. You can wish another people all you want – but it’s their country, not yours. And if you think for one minute – if you are so naive – to think this war is being fought for some lofty ideal…

  • Brendy

Also, of those 18 million votes for Hillary – a lot of those could have been votes cast by Republicans who preferred her over McCain, but would NEVER vote for Obummer. Now, with Sarah on the ticket, those dissatisfied repubs may gladly vote for McCain (they probably would have anyway, since it’s down to Obummer/McCain, but adding Sarah to his ticket made it that much more appealing and easier to vote for McCain).

  • Crystal M

This comment speaks to what is fundamently wrong with the voting public. People don’t research their candidates.
    Palin is NOT a reformer.

She claimed she was against the “Bridge to Nowhere, a massive pork-barrel project. But she was infact FOR the project until it began to garner national attention and ridicule.

October 2006” Palin Supported Bridge To Nowhere. In 2006, Palin was asked, “Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges?” She responded, “Yes. I would like to see Alaska’s infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now–while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist.” [Anchorage, 10/22/06, republished 08/29/08]

Palin’s Lt. Governor is an Oil & Gas lobbyist

Palin’s Oil & Gas Appointee Is Former Lobbyist for TransCanada. “Marty Rutherford, who leads Gov. Sarah Palin’s gas pipeline team, made $40,200 in 2003 while consulting in Juneau for a pipeline subsidiary of TransCanada. TransCanada is one of the companies bidding for a state license to build a pipeline to carry gas to market from Alaska’s North Slope. It’s not a disqualifier, but the past connection deserves a second thought.” [Anchorage Daily News editorial, 12/15/07]

Palin has also sought close to $600 million in earmarks during her combined tenures as mayor of Wasilla and Gov. of Alaska.

Alaska Has Sought 31 Earmarks Worth $197.8 Million in Next Year’s Federal Budget. “But under her leadership, the state of Alaska has requested 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million in next year’s federal budget, according to the website of Sen. Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the former chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee.” [LA Times, 9/1/08]

  • TexasBuckeye

The Obama campaign needs to come up with a better talking point.

“McCain voted with Bush 90% of the time” is ficticious and preposterous.

    – McCain has been a senator for 22 years. Examine all 22 years of his voting record instead of just the last 8.

    – McCain can vote “with” his political party or against it. Voting with one’s political party more than not means what, exactly?

    – Technically, the president is a member of the executive branch of government. He doesn’t get to vote on legislative issues. So Bush doesn’t really have a voting record against which to compare McCain’s.

  • Andrew Johnson

I don’t get why some people feel it’s alright to interfere in the internal affairs of another country – even if they think what’s going on there isn’t good. In how many countries in the world can you find the US military? Anyone have a clue? What are they doing there? What gives them the right?

Anyone remember a dude named Gandhi? Who said nonviolence is not only better but more effective?

Anyone remember Hans Blix who admitted he reckoned he’d find WMDs in Iraq – but who could unequivocally testify before the UN that they had none?

Anyone remember the FBI agent who got Saddam to spill the beans? Who got Saddam to reveal why he never admitted he didn’t have any WMDs? That it was because he was scared shitless of Iran?

How many countries have the US military invaded only since WWII? This is good?

Rendition is good too? The CIA – they’re good? All this poking about in other people’s business and internal affairs – this is good?

Perhaps you believe in realpolitik. I don’t know what I believe in but I do not believe it’s a foregone conclusion that any country, any people, have the right to run ramshod over another.

Putin in Ossetia – how is this different from Bush in Iraq? Or any of the other countries the US interfered in? Korea? Vietnam? Cuba? Guatemala? Chile? Nicaragua? Panama? Grenada?

Have you all forgot this? Do you sometimes wonder why so many peoples of the world hate the US? Or do you just say ‘I wanna watch the football game – fuck ‘em!’

You wanna talk karma? Maybe you’d better talk karma before it hits you upside the head.

There was going to be a boycott of the Chinese Olympics? What happened there? The Bushies were there; Putin was there with wet armpits; why? For all the espoused ideals – what happened?

Was it money? Was it also money that told Yahoo they should sell their subscribers out to Peking? Was it also money that clued Brin and Page into how they should filter search content?

Why do people think all these military and other sundry actions are for ideals? When are they going to realise it’s greedos and politicos trying to keep people who have no clue satisfied, glued to their boob tubes every night?

What did Allen Dulles do with Chiquita Banana? If you’re feeling guilt because of slavery – what guilt are you feeling about that?

What guilt are you feeling because your government negotiated with Khomeini before the election with Jimmy Carter? That a future president – and the father of the current president – did that deal?

What do you feel about the fact the above cited deal involved the Contras in Nicaragua? Or perhaps you think that was a good thing?

What do you feel about Kissinger’s overthrow of the democratically elected Salvador Allende and the backing of the cruel dictator Pinochet?

What do you feel about how your government have supported cruel dictatorships around the globe – just so you can live in further wealth?

The list is long. Interminably so. And now there is a WAR IN IRAQ. And all of a sudden it’s a PATRIOTIC THING to support it.

  • fluffy bunny

    sigh.

If you want to enter the middle east debate we have to go a lot further back than the iraq war.

a Lot further back! and look at what the western powers did to bring about the structure in the middle east that ended up breeding terrorism and opression on such a large scale.

Goin in wrong? Depends on what your reason was.

Its more than fighting daddy’s war or getting even with sadam.

Its also more than just about oil.

There is a much wider much deeper war going on. The war of Extreme islam vs western ideology.

That war started long ago and has a long way to go before its finished.

History will find that ultimately the iraq war was the right decision and will have been a turning point in that greater battle.

Trust me, women don’t really want to run around wearing bedsheets on themselves just because some mullah tells them they have to.

but back to the issue of iraq as an isolated incedent which most americans view foriegn policy as…a series of isolated incedents, once in you have an obligation to clean up the mess before leaving.

meh…its a much bigger debate and definately OT for this thread…ramble

Obama has suggested he might consider bombing inside the Pakistani border, if Osama bin Laden’s location were known. McCain criticized the comment, suggesting it would be irresponsible to bomb the territory of an ally without first getting permission.

That’s the exchange the “McCain won’t even chase Bin Laden to the cave where he lives” comment was in reference to.

I don’t know, that “Ice Queen” has gone around the world for years and dealt with the after effects of genocide and children dying with malnutrition & diarrhea from unclean drinking water. She & McCain adopted one of the orphans from Mother Theresa’s orphanage. She’s also organized for yearsmission trip after mission trip of doctors to provide their services for free to help people all over the world and goes with them on these missions to help run them but, at the same time, she’ll sit in a corner and roll bandages in a t-shirt and jeans – there are plenty of pics of her doing that. There is much more she’s done over the years in this regard, but I won’t go on.

I am a liberal Independent, and I’m not intimately knowledgable about all the scoop on the Repub. players, but it seems to me that Cindy McCain,in her own way, has sincerely worked and accomplished great things with the inheritance she received from her father in order to make this world a better place.

The Obama campaign has had the nerve to attack McCain on “all his money” and they did this to the Clintons as well, but (as I’ve said many times before) the bottom line in this regard is that Barack and Michele gave less than 1% of their income to charity and NOT one bloody cent did they give to the victims of KATRINA. Bill and Hillary tithe every year and the McCains give well OVER 10% of their money – they have been the most generous.

And comparing percentages is a FAIR AND EQUITABLE comparison vs. comparing incomes and dollar amounts. Percentages of income is an apples to apples comparison and Obama didn’t start giving even a halfway decent amount until he began running for President. That makes him a total fraud.

Palin attends a church that believes the war on Iraq was a mission from God, that Kerry voters would go to hell, and that you can “pray away the gay”.

I’d be much more afraid of church like Palin’s that believes that war is righteous, versus one that believes that dropping bombs on civilians is a sin worthy of damnation.

Your “research” speaks to what is fundamentally wrong.

    – Ketchikan and Gravina residents needed a better solution than the current infrastructure provides. As Governor of Alaska, Palin was right to initially support a project that her constituents badly needed. When the larger scope of the issue became known, Palin, as an American citizen, made the right decision in supporting the transfer of those funds to Louisianna.

    - Similarly, voters who initially supported Barack Obama have since decided not to support him after considering the larger scope of the issue.

    – Marty Rutherford is not a known criminal or terrorist. Enough said.

    – Seeking 31 earmarks worth $197.8 million is not within the sole discretion and authority of Sarah Palin. Many others have a say in those matters.

    – Similarly, you don’t hold Obama responsible for the actions not within his sole discretion and authority.

No, she didn’t transfer those funds. She KEPT the money for the bridge to use for other infrastructure projects in Alaska.

Similarly, voters who initially supported Barack Obama have since decided not to support him after considering the larger scope of the issue.

Alaska has requested the largest per-capita request of federal spending in the nation. You mean to tell me she’s going to fight pork projects in Congress, but she can’t fight them in her own cabinet?

Similarly, you don’t hold Obama responsible for the actions not within his sole discretion and authority.

As the GOP are fond of reminding us, Obama is the one without “executive experience” (as is McCain). “Executive experience” includes taking responsibility for the policy failures in your own administration, which Palin hasn’t done.

The church she goes to does not “believe” in that. That was one guest speaker in her church.

What is interesting, though, is that Mrs Palin is obviously not someone who wears her religion on her sleeve (as could be seen by those who watched those 6-month-old videos on Greta yesterday); and that, despite what her beliefs may be, her first veto was on a bill which forbid he extension of benefits of public employees to same-sex partners because it was unconstitutional. Is there a greater test than that? – clearly not letting whatever position she may have due to her religious views impact one of the most important jobs of the chief executive?

And regarding wars: a war MAY be righteous (though there is NOTHING in her church proclaiming this as a belief), even if many specific wars are not.

It does not inspire confidence that these are people who should be the near the seat of power.

I disagree with the concept that 0bama is not a part of this. This is absolutely his style, including pretending to be above the fray.

He should have called these people off, called them out during the Primary. Part of the reason I will not vote for him is the vileness of his supporters that he turned a blind eye too, maybe even directed.

But what do you expect from a generation of idiot kids who are so busy text messaging as they walk through busy streets that they put their lives at risk? What could possibly be so important? Paris Hilton has a new dog? Lindsey Lohan at Fashion Week? What can you expect from low information voters who eat up celebrity gossip, read Perez Hilton, spread gossip about each other on myspace and facebook, stalk each other in cyberspace.

What could these idiot, spoiled children offer to the political discourse except the most ludicrious opinions expressed in vile language?

All these numbnuts succeeded in doing with the Palin smear, was encourage a whole nation of Americans to watch Palin and McCain’s speech. Figure it out, how many of those people were ordinary, average citizens who don’t spend any time on the Internet, have no knowledge of no quarter or any blogs, but were disgusted by the election? Democrats/Independents, American voters who tuned in and were immediatley drawn into the very comely, appealing governor from Alaska.

They gave the Republicans this upper hand with their stupidity, their bullshit. And now they want to do what? Blame somebody else? Attack people who wan’t no part of their shameful and disgusting tactics. Insult people because they don’t see this election the way they do.

I would never believed that it was possible a year ago for events to resurrect the Bush presidency after all he did. But OMG! It’s actually happening before my very eyes.

And these people think they can insult people by calling them Republicans after the mind-boggling idiotic way the Democrats have behaved?

    IndianaDem:

The problem with these arguments is that Obama and Biden stand so much worse on these issues (eg earmarks) by comparison that people take hers in the broader context and brush them off. By the way please be more careful when quoting: Palin never said she “sold [the jet]” on EBay. She said she “put it on EBay” ; what she did–it was after being on EBay for a while and not getting a buyer that it was turn to a private person. Moreover Palin never said it gave a profit. That was McCain. That issue is even debatable: the plane NEW cost 2.4 Mill. The plane USED was sold for $2.1 MIll. To know for certain whether there was a “profit”
in the real sense of teh word one needs to take into account the years of use and how much of its value had depreciated (don’t forghet this plane was bought by the former Gov. of AK). We all know what happens to a new car’s value as soon as we drive it a block from the dealership.

I think Bonnie is confusing community organizers with rebels. The founding fathers were rebels, not community organizers. Their goal was to take over the government, frame a new one and implement it. ACORN seeks to change government policy from the inside, not stage a coup d’etat.

There’s a difference. Our founding fathers put their necks on the line. A community organizer doesn’t. They had a history of higher education along with running successful businesses and farms/plantations. They weren’t spending their time trying to figure out how to sign up more voters to throw an election a certain way or acquiring federal money to build parks that weren’t built or renovating low-income housing that ended up as bad, if not worse than it was before the renovation. In other words, there wasn’t a list of failures and maybe that wasn’t such a good idea to associate with that person shadowing behind them.

The McCain campaign is going after rural voters. They could very well be the voters in this election that swing the electoral vote to McCain. Especially in Michigan, Michigan may be the Ohio and Florida of the past two elections. With 17 electoral votes, Michigan could be the deciding factor. Reagan was able to swing the state red through the 80′s and McCain knows to do it he has to get the southeastern metropolitan blue collar and the northern Michigan small town vote. Northern Michigan is populated by low income or fixed income voters. Many don’t have health insurance, Senator Obama perks their interest. But the fixed income retirees don’t want their capital gain tax raised. A majority of Northern Michigan are strong supporters of the NRA, hunters, fishermen, snowmobilers, active in their churches and pro-life. Enter Governor Palin to win them over with her small town values where the local kid sports team’s games are attended by half of the town and everyone belongs to the local snowmobile club.

Governor Palin’s rural background is going to be played up in the battleground states of Michigan, Indiana, New Mexico, Colorado and North Carolina where there are lots of small towns with voters who just don’t quite “get” Senator Obama (argula isn’t sold in their IGA) and where he’s going to get all that money to spend on his programs.

My research into the library incident indicates that when Governor Palin was mayor, early in her term she asked the librarian (at a city council meetings) whether she would be agreeable to removing certain books from the library that had objectionable language. She never indicated which books were objectionable. The librarian said no, she would not remove books. The books in the library were chosen from national lists that recommend books for a library in a town the size of Wasilla.

Not long after Governor Palin’s queries, she attempted to fire the librarian. Whether this had something to do with the librarian’s answer to her query, is unknown. She may have been testing the librarian’s loyalty to her and later said she was trying to get to know the librarian and understand and follow administration agendas. Supposedly Governor Palin backed off on removing the librarian when she agreed to Governor Palin’s plan of combining the museum and library. That plan was never implemented, the two are still separate. However, Palin did fire the man who ran the museum along with I think the police chief, who if I’m remembering correctly, was the librarian’s boyfriend.

    CM,

All of the people I list, created change by organizing their respective communities.

I used the figures I did because the Obama Attack Machine is distorting the notion of who counts as a “community organizer.” They/You are doing this as a means of creating a potentially large set of people who are victimized by Palin’s comment.

The Obama Attack Machine is conflating the notion of community organizer so that it includes anyone who does something that brings people/ a community together for a common purpose. The set of people who meet this description is huge, whereas the set of people who have been hired as “community organizers” is comparatively miniscule.

Jesus, Gandhi, MLK, and the Dalai Lama are/were not paid advocates. Palin’s comment has nothing to do with them or the millions upon millions of people who do good work for their communities.

Obama attacked Palin’s experience as a small town mayor. She sensibly shot back that her role involved a great deal of responsibility, while jokingly suggesting that his role did not. It is fair for some paid advocates to feel slighted by her remark, especially if it is taken out of the context of the political conversation of which it is a part. To suggest it means anything more than that is to engage in propaganda.

I understand how you could perceive my perspective as backwards because consuming the Obama’ campaign’s kool-aid causes otherwise rational, moral people to see the world through Obama’s narcissistic hall of mirrors.

It is not a commonly known fact that a disproportionately large number of the people that fall into cults are college and university educated. It is hypothesized that they fall victim because they erroneously believe their intellectual training will protect them from cultish techniques that operate below the level of rationality.

I am an Independent. No matter how well Obama presents himself or the Democratic cause, I simply cannot vote for him. This is the reason why. To me there are three primary things that unite this great, wonderful, crazy melting pot of a nation of people that we call America. The Constitution, our Flag and our English language. A lawsuit has been filed against him disputing his eligibility under the II Amendment, to even run for President. It has not gone away or yet been resolved to the satisfaction of the American people. I will not just sit back and allow some hotshot Constitutional Atty to attempt to do an end run around our Constitution. It could set a precedent that could have grave repercussions for out country, not to mention the chaos that would ensue.

    See http://obamacrimes.com/ for details.

There are enough legitimate and valid questions/points raised by this lawsuit, that I now want independent definitive answers to them. The fact that both the Daily Kos and Obama’s own website posted a blatant forgery of his COLB for the longest time on his website raises questions. Now factcheck.org, a democratic mouthpiece, has posted the “supposed” real certified COLB on their website after Obama made his little trip to Hawaii. It still states that the father’s race is “African”. That cannot be right. Africa is a continent, not a race, as there are Caucasian Africans also. Not good enough now. To little, to late.

I no longer will accept a COLB that has come from inside the Obama campaign. The issue of forgery remains a specter here. I want outside independent certified verification of his original vault certificate. I also want certified answers to the other issues raised. This is a grave matter of Constitutional law that affects the very core of who we are as a people and what we represent. He needs to answer the American people. We need to protect and preserve the future integrity of the Democratic party. I may be independent, but I like to have choices when I vote. That is why I am Independent.

Mr. Berg has been painted out to be some kind of a kook due to other causes he has chosen to espouse. Be that as it may, I do know that you do not get to be Pennsylvania’s former deputy attorney general by being a crackpot or a kook. I would imagine that you would have to know your stuff! He sounds pretty logical and coherent to me. http://www.americasright.com/2008/08/q-with-phillip-berg.html. Enough so, that I want answers now and not later.

Confirmation was received from Mr. Berg’s Process Service Company that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Senator Barack Obama were served today, September 4, 2008, with the legal documents pertaining to Berg vs. Obama, Civil Action No. 08-cv-4083. The DNC was served at 12:00 p.m. and Senator Obama was served at 1:00 p.m. The U.S. Attorney’s Office accepted service on behalf of the Federal Elections Committee (FEC) on or about August 22, 2008. Now it would be very simple for Obama and the DNC to make this all go away. Just produce, or authorize the production of the proper documentation. Why won’t they just do this? How hard can it be. Why don’t they just sue the pants off of Berg if there is not truth to this? There is still time for Obama to step aside and allow the Democratic party to have a legitimate candidate with time left to campaign. This lawsuit needs to be fast tracked.

Picture this scenario………………..Obama is elected. After election it is determined that he is not eligible and the two time Pres. candidate loser, a long time Washington insider, Biden, steps into the Presidency. Biden has had two brain aneurysms and a heart attack and he, like McCain, is old also. Now let us postulate that he expires while in office. That would mean that Pelosi would then, by law, step into the Presidency. This scenario gives me a straight up heart attack! This is why it is so important that Obama prove himself to ALL Americans before one should vote for him. Until that happens, I find that I have no choice but to vote for McCain.

Did you know that Gaza Strip is one half the size of the City of Chicago?

He has enough experience to run an Islamic Terrorist Enclave.

Pelosi would only step into the presidency if there was no vice president. If for some reason Senator Obama resigned from the presidency, Senator Biden would be sworn in. Senator Biden would then nominate a new vice president, who would need to be approved by both houses of Congress. In 1973, when Spiro Agnew resigned, President Nixon nominated President Ford, who was sworn in as vice president two months after Spiro Agnew resigned. In 1974, after President Nixon resigned, it was four months before Nelson Rockerfeller was sworn in as vice president.

President Johnson’s succession after JFK’s assassination was before the 25th Amendment, which dictates nominating a vice president when there’s a vacancy. Before the 25th Amendment
(enacted in the late 60′s), the Presidential Succession Act of 1947 dictated succession which had no provisions for filling a vice president vacancy. When Johnson became president, there was no vice president until he won the 1964 presidential election. Between November 1963 and January 1965, if President Johnson had to leave the office of president, the Speaker of House would have succeeded him.
