Emails from Wasilla

On Sunday, August 31st Action Wire, the “information” megaphone section of the Obama website put out an email supposedly written by a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. The author of this email was described as just a local resident who wanted to set the record straight. After further study one finds her to be just a kooky local democratic party anti establishment activist, starving for attention and willing to put her name under any team Obama crafted message.

I won’t publish her stupid remarks. You can google her name and read her “observations” on thousands of other sites, if you wish. Her name is Anne Kilkenny.

Yes, Sarah has always been a straight shooter.

sarah_b_on_court.jpg

There is, you know, more than one person living there capable of crafting an email message. So what do the folks in Wasilla, who don’t wear tin-foil hats, think of Sara?

Why don’t we ask Wasilla resident Deb Frost.

This email is from Deb Frost, who lives in Wasilla, Alaska. She does not have millions of Daily Kooks spreading the truth, so it will just have to be from me to you. You have already heard some of what she says. But much of her email, coming from a home town girl, is fresh and thoughtful.

Sarah Palin is the US’s answer to Margaret Thatcher! Anyone who thinks she cannot handle the job or deal briskly and efficiently with ANY issue, including foreign governments . well, they haven’t met our Sarah.

As an Alaskan resident as well as a resident of Wasilla, AK, where Sarah Palin was at one time Mayor . I can speak with confidence. Governor Sarah Palin of Alaska is exactly what she portrayed during her introduction this morning and exactly what our US Government needs. She is ethical to a fault (if there is such a thing), a refreshing change to the status-quo and as smart and determined a PERSON (gender really isn’t an issue here as far as I’m concerned) as anyone could ask for at the head of government.

Sarah is no naïve “small town mayor” – she just *started out* there. Btw, as Mayor of Wasilla, she brought this “small town” through a lot of GOOD changes and left it at the end of her term having grown to the 4th largest CITY in Alaska – a lot of growth and a stronger economic base than ever before.

She has EXECUTIVE experience ‘running a government’ (something NONE of the other candidates can actually boast, even John McCain) as Governor of Alaska and got there by defeating the ‘incumbent’ Republican Governor, who was definitely part of the “old school” and who WAS very much in the pocket of the big oil companies. We in Alaska wanted change – and we got it in the person of Sarah Palin!

Sarah Palin is everything she looks to be and more. Her approval rating as Governor of Alaska has been as high as 95% and is currently leveled out consistently in the upper 80 percentile throughout the state (and in both parties) – the HIGHEST approval rating of ANY sitting Governor.

Sarah has been turning around corruption in the Legislature of Alaska – turning things on their ear for that matter; cutting spending in spite of the increased income the state is currently receiving due to the high oil prices – she has insisted on putting a huge amount of the “windfall” into savings for the future rather than spending, spending, spending – and has insisted from the get-go on what she refers to as “honest, ethical and transparent governing” – no more closed door meetings and dealings – the big oil companies thought she would be a pushover and have learned better to their chagrin.

She understands the “real people” and the economic issues we all face (Alaskans along with the rest of the country) – she was one of “us” not long ago. Rather than passing useless “laws” or throwing money at pet projects, she (most recently) temporarily suspended the state gas tax (on gasoline at the pumps, fuel oil and natural gas for homes, etc.) and has ordered checks issued to ALL residents of Alaska this fall in an attempt to assist with the burden of high fuel costs for the upcoming winter. I could go on and on, but that’s enough for now. She isn’t doing these things to be popular – she is doing it because her constituents are HURTING financially and she can help.

She became Governor of Alaska by defeating the Incumbent Republican Governor and doing it ‘without’ the money or the support of the Republican Party, which was amazing in itself – and she won by a landslide. The “powers that be” at that time totally underestimated Sarah and learned better the hard way. She has done exactly what she claimed she was going to do and is just as popular today as the day she was elected – perhaps more so since even the Democrats up here seem to like her – she works well with both sides in the Legislature here.

Sarah “belongs” to us (Alaskans)…and although we are going to be terribly sorry to see her leave before she finishes the job she started here (two years ago) straightening out OUR State…we understand she is needed for a bigger purpose and hopefully her Lt. Governor will be able to fill her shoes here and continue the job.

As for worrying about what would happen if McCain were to die or step down or whatever…Theta, up here in AK we’ve only been wondering how long we would be able to KEEP Sarah in Alaska and have seen her as our first woman President of the USA from the start. It’s always been a matter of whether she would wait until the end of her TWO terms as Governor (no doubt at ALL that she would be re-elected if she ran for a second term at the end of her current term) … or end up in Washington sooner. She could do the job TODAY.

Personally, I feel a lot better about McCain now that I know he has someone as savvy, as strong, as ethical and as steady as Sarah at his back. She will be an excellent Vice President … and my guess is will be our US Republican Presidential candidate in four years – AND by then the country will KNOW her – will love and respect her as we do here – and she’ll win by as much of a landslide as she did here in Alaska. I only wonder if McCain has a clue what he is unleashing on the US of A. She is going to be a fresh wind, but also a strong wind.

Is that enough of an endorsement? If not, I’ll add this…Jerry and I have for many years felt the best “vote” was to vote for the lesser of two “evils” and hope they didn’t do too much damage. Two years ago during our State Governor’s race was the first time EVER that we actually asked for not just a little sign to put in our yard showing our support of our candidate (something we’ve never felt the desire to do at all before) – we asked for a full 4′ x 8′ “SARAH PALIN FOR GOVERNOR!” sign and were proud to have it. She hasn’t let us or Alaska down. She will do the same for the USA if given the opportunity.

Feel free to pass this on to anyone who may be interested (and spam those who aren’t!).

-Deb Frost in Alaska

So there you have it. The huffing kooks can take their “real story” email and wipe each other’s sniveling cheeks with it all they want. They will read the above and say: “Oh. Just another bitter small towner, like the ones in OH and PA.” And the Obama research team might find the cousin of a friend of the brother-in-law of a fourteenth generation relative of the abominable snowman who will claim Sarah’s husbands ancestors came from Mars. But it won’t change the fact that this woman, Sarah Palin, is one of us and that we like her.

Also. Just from me. This is totally off topic of my own post. And I do want you to spread the above message far and wide. But I just can’t get over how much we do not generally know about how much the Obamas honestly believe that the USA should be totally torn down and rebuilt in the image of their socialist heros. The Obamas formed and have run a boot camp for Bill Ayers wannabes for 16 years, teaching kids how to protest whitey and the man. I thought we long ago grew up and learned that we should protest bad policy and actions, not just establishment as a whole. BTW. Is the management structure of a school that teaches protesting not, in fact, the establishment?

    That e-mail was written by a person who has a grudge against Palin since she went up against the mayor. She supported the old mayor…I have read comments from people who were present in meeting and on the city council who say she just has an axe to grind with Palin.

    Sarah Palin made enemies fighting against the boys and they are getting her back now from what I can find out.

    Even the most popular person has detractors. Even the most worthy, too. Some people who vent are just jealous, or have peculiar mindsets. I recall reading that e-mail and the writer admitted Palin is very popular. Well, gee, that confirms what her approval ratings said. And she surely stepped on toes when she was cleaning up that town. I would posit that we need people in Washington not afraid to step on toes.

    Anyway, the people are catching on. McCain is now +3 over Obama, according to Gallup.

    I would almost rather Sarah be at the top of the ticket after doing all my research thus far. Even her bad things are not such big deals (to most of us) and she appears to NOT be pushing religion into her politics, so far.

    It is difficult to know the truth about anything written anymore due to excessive interpretations of freedom of speech, however, Obama’s words out of his own mouth is indesputable. Time will tell on Palin as she debates, speaks etc, but so far she is doing pretty darn good. Not many gaffes, whereas Obama has a youtube film gallery of them. The written word is meaningless now days, just see for yourself as that is much less likely to be destorted.

    That email was forwarded to me too. It looks like you have an earlier version, the name “Theta” appearing in yours was apparently edited out by somebody forwarding it before I got it.

    Deb also includes “grin,” “g,” and “smile” between greater-than and lesser-than symbols, which probably got treated as html markup when you posted.

    “…well, they haven’t met our Sarah <grin>.” Here are all the instance in the email version forwarded to me.

  • RepublicanChick

    One of my best friends lives in Alaska and she’s so aggravated with the news media’s coverage of Sarah. Last night, we “watched” Greta’s show via conference. She thought the show was good, but was angered that Greta did not explain the situation with “Troopergate”.

    Here are the actual facts and the partial timeline. If you want more, I cannot seem to post the actual link here.

    4-11-05: Investigation of Mike Wooten by AST (Alaskan State Troopers) over two year allegation of misconduct involving family members commences.

    5-1-05: Domestic complaint incident involving Mike and Molly [Sarah's sister} Wooten, Sarah and Todd Palin. Transcript of Sarah Palin with troopers. Also, Trooper notes on the same interview.

    SUMMARY: Molly (Sarah's sister) calls Sarah (not yet Governor) in fear from husband. They leave an open phone line where both Sarah and Molly’s son hear Wooten threaten Molly and Sarah’s father (he’ll “eat an f*#king bullet). Palin doesn’t call police because she doesn’t want to hurt Wooten’s trooper career, nor make the situation worse…. Providing it didn’t get physical. Other incidents with Wooten noted.

    8-18-05 Re’interview of both Sarah and Todd Palin. Trooper notes on Sarah interview. And Trooper notes on interview with Todd Palin, plus with bartender of Mug Shot Saloon.

    SUMMARY: Sarah confirms an email on Aug 10th, 2005 to Col Julia Grimes, Director of AST (Alaska State Troopers) complaining of Wooten’s negative representation of the department. Wooten’s abuse of his authority and position in various instances. His racist attitudes towards native Alaskans (Todd Palin is a native Alaskan…), abuse of state resources (free gas/credit), illegal hunting activities, and Sarah’s daughter (Bristol) being a witness to Wooten’s tasering of his 11 year old stepson (verified)

    SUMMARY: Todd also confirms Wooten's disparaging remarks about Alaskan natives, his consistent abuse of authority and position, plus his hunting violations. Bartender confirms Wooten involving himself in bar fight, misusing his position as a trooper. Also bartender confirms Wooten with “girlfriend” at the bar, who was later arrested for DUI.

    This is no means a complete picture of all that happened... but enough to give you a picture of an "out of control" trooper.

    ~~~
    NOTE: Palin was not Governor of the State at this time… and this transpired BEFORE her primary campaign against GOP [see party affiliation correction at end of post, please]competitor, Andrew Halcro. Coincidently, the same man leading the pack screaming “scandal” over the “firing of Monegan”.
    There is more:
    11-2006: Palin elected Governor of Alaska
    3-1-06: Col. Julia Grimes findings on Wooten investigation results in suspension…. for only *five* days.
    What we can derive from the timeline is that the investigations and complaints against Wooten as a State Trooper (not to mention with problems exhibiting a derelict father who tasers his step son, and is a physically and verbally abusive, unfaithful husband per the transcripts and testimony) had started prior to Palin’s term as Governor.
    We can also determine that this is a man who most certainly does not need to be a trooper, armed with a badge and gun. And, if not in rural Alaska, Wooten is a law official who would have been run out of most departments as a seriously troubled man with violent tendencies.
    Per Col. Julia Grimes in the Fairbanks Newsminer on July 28, 2008… and showing how long this “scandal” has dragged out…
    From Julia Grimes’ finding:
    The record clearly indicates a serious and concentrated pattern of unacceptable, and at times, illegal activity occurring over a lengthy period, which establishes a course of conduct totally at odds with the ethics of our profession,” Col. Julia Grimes, then head of Alaska State Troopers, wrote in March 1, 2006, letter suspending Wooten for 10 days. After the union protested it, the suspension was reduced to five days.
    She warned that if he messed up again, he’d be fired.
    All of the above was sent to Flopping Aces and my friend says the information is all correct–except Andrew Halcro is a Republican that was a rival of Sarah’s.
    The measure of a person’s character often can be measured by the enemies he/she creates. Palin gets an A+ in character on this one. Detractor is simply a character of disrepute. Obama camp is desparate.
    here is the other e-mail I received yesterday
    PLEASE KEEPING FORWARDING
    This is from a Bryn Mawr college grad to her fellow alums
    Dear classmates -
    As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on
    Sarah Palin, Senator McCain’s choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I
    know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that
    he picked her.
    The most accurate description of her is red neck Her husband works in
    the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles. She is a life
    time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow
    indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska , particularly wolves and
    bears She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial
    hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars
    that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska ‘s failing school
    system.
    We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the
    country. Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so bad,
    but how anyone (other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are
    many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is
    appropriate is beyond me. If you want to know more about the aerial
    hunting travesty, let me know and I will send some links to
    informative web sites.
    She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels, yet
    the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has ‘green’ policies. The
    only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience. She has
    consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power
    plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her home
    town of Wasilla ), strip mining, and almost anything else that will
    unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy
    its environment.
    Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska , she was mayor of Wasilla,
    a small red neck town outside Anchorage.The average maximum education
    level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade.
    Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and
    other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put
    Palin in office in the first place. I know what I’m talking about.
    These people don’t have a concept of the world around them or of the
    serious issues facing the US . Furthermore, they don’t care. So long as
    they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears
    and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the
    wilderness, they’re happy. I wish I were exaggerating.
    Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruption scandal.
    She fired an individual in law enforcement here because she didn’t
    like how he treated one of her relatives during a divorce. The man’s
    performance and ability weren’t considered; it was a totally personal
    firing and is currently under investigation. While the issue isn’t
    close to the scandal of Ted Steven’s corruption, it shows that Palin
    isn’t ‘squeaky clean’ and causes me to think there may be more issues
    that could come to light. Clearly McCain doesn’t care.
    When you line Palin up with Biden, the comparison would be laughable
    if it weren’t so serious. Sarah Palin knows nothing of economics
    (admittedly a weak area for McCain), or of international affairs,
    knows nothing of national government, Social Security, unemployment,
    health care systems – you name it. The idea of her meeting with heads
    of foreign governments around the world truly frightens me.
    In an increasingly dangerous world, with the economy in shambles in
    the US , Sarah Palin is uniquely UNqualified to be vice president.
    John McCain is not a young man. Should something happen to him such that
    the vice president had to step in, it would destroy our country and
    possibly the world to have someone as inexperienced and inappropriate
    as Sarah Palin. The choice of Palin is a cheap shot by McCain to try
    to get Hillary supporters to vote for him. when McCain introduced her
    today, Palin had the nerve to compare herself with Hillary and
    Geraldine Ferraro.
    Sarah Palin, you are no Hillary Clinton.
    To those of you who, like me, supported Hillary and were upset that she
    did not get the nomination, please don’t think that Sarah Palin is a
    worthy substitute. If you supported Hillary, regardless of what you
    think the media and the democratic party may have done to undermine
    her campaign, the person to support now is Obama, not Sarah Palin. To
    those of you who are independent or undecided, don’t let the choice of
    Palin sway you in favor of McCain. Choosing her shows how unqualified
    McCain is to be president.
    To those of you who are conservative, I
    guess you have no choice for president. But please try to see how the
    poor choice of Palin tells us a great deal about McCain’s judgment.
    While the political posturing inherent in the choice of Palin is
    obvious, the more serious issue is the fact that the VP is, literally,
    a heartbeat away from the presidency. Sarah Palin is totally and
    unequivocally unqualified to be vice president, let alone president.
    I know this is a lengthy and emotional email, but the stakes are high.
    I thought it might help for all of you, regardless of political
    affiliation, to know something about Palin from someone who has to
    live with her administration in Alaska on a daily basis.
    Here’s some basic background from MoveOn.org:
    She was elected Alaska ‘s governor a little over a year and a half ago. Her previous office was mayor of Wasilla, a small town outside Anchorage.1
    Palin is strongly anti-choice, opposing abortion even in the case of rape or incest.2
    She supported right-wing extremist Pat Buchanan for president in 2000. 3
    Palin thinks creationism should be taught in public schools.4
    She’s doesn’t think humans are the cause of climate change.5
    She’s solidly in line with John McCain’s ‘Big Oil first’ energy policy. She’s pushed hard for more oil drilling and says renewables won’t be ready for years. She also sued the Bush administration for listing polar bears as an endangered speciesshe was worried it would interfere with more oil drilling in Alaska.6
    Here’s a sample of Alaskans’ responses:
    She is really just a mayor from a small town outside Anchorage who has been a governor for only 1.5 years, and has ZERO national and international experience. I shudder to think that she could be the person taking that 3AM call on the White House hotline, and the one who could potentially be charged with leading the US in the volatile international scene that exists today. Rose M., Fairbanks , AK
    She is VERY, VERY conservative, and far from perfect. She’s a hunter and fisherwoman, but votes against the environment again and again. She ran on ethics reform, but is currently under investigation for several charges involving hiring and firing of state officials. She has NO experience beyond Alaska . Christine B, Denali Park , AK
    As an Alaskan and a feminist, I am beyond words at this announcement. Palin is not a feminist, and she is not the reformer she claims to be. Karen L., Anchorage , AK
    Alaskans, collectively, are just as stunned as the rest of the nation. She is doing well running our State, but is totally inexperienced on the national level, and very much unequipped to run the nation, if it came to that. She is as far right as one can get, which has already been communicated on the news. In our office of thirty employees (dems, republicans, and nonpartisans), not one person feels she is ready for the V.P. position.Sherry C., Anchorage , AK
    She’s vehemently anti-choice and doesn’t care about protecting our natural resources, even though she has worked as a fisherman McCain chose her to pick up the Hillary voters, but Palin is no Hillary Marina L., Juneau , AK
    I think she’s far too inexperienced to be in this position. I’m all for a woman in the White House, but not one who hasn’t done anything to deserve it. There are far many other women who have worked their way up and have much more experience that would have been better choices. This is a patronizing decision on John McCain’s part- and insulting to females everywhere that he would assume he’ll get our vote by putting ‘A Woman’ in that position.
    Jennifer M., Anchorage , AK
    Please forward this to everyone you know!
    Best regards,
    Kos “admires” the right wing machine and what Republicans have been able to do. He sees himself as the creator of the Left wing machine. So far they’ve been vile and disgusting, but nothing surprising. Activists are activists no matter what side they fall on. They’ll do the “dirty” work that the campaigns don’t want to attach themselves to during the campaign.
    Let’s imagine they go even more negative on Palin. What does that do?
    It trashes Palin.
    It could hurt Palin.
    However, they spent all of last week trashing her and what happens? She’s more popular than Obama and McCain.
    If they continue to trash her, the polling numbers are going to skyrocket. They will effectively boost her in the eyes of the American public.
    Add in the fact a majority of Americans believe the media is trying to hurt Palin and you’ve got a dilemma for Kos and Crew.
    My parents are not politically active people, but they do watch the local news. DailyKos’ name gets mentioned and people like my parents in Middle America are automatically turned off by anything that is attached to DailyKos, Ariana Huffington, and the leftwing blogs.
    In other words, he admires the right wing; but he failed to understand the game.
    You are handing the election to McCain/Palin.
    Congratulations Kos!
    Before Biden’s campaign plane taxied to the runway, headed for Montana, Biden spokesman David Wade responded to the joke with a jab at Palin. “You realize you could’ve made history,” Wade said. “If you’d found a cardboard cut-out of Governor Palin, that’s the closest she would’ve been to taking tough questions from the national media since she was selected…Yet another way that McCain-Palin is more of the same.”
    The McCain camp has fired back. “This is probably a great day for Joe Biden,” Ben Porritt, a spokesman for McCain-Palin 2008, told CNN. “He’s never been shy about wanting to campaign on the same ticket as John McCain.”
    Palin was the only of the four nominees not to make an appearance on a news talk show Sunday. The Alaska governor has been making a western swing with John McCain this week, and drawing crowds in the tens of thousands.
    I think Barry and crew are going to find out a new definition of pain once Palin gets on the circuit! lol
    Here’s some basic background from MoveOn.org:
    This email lost me after reading that portion.
    I’m sorry, but they and Code Pink were utterly disrespectful to McCain during his acceptance speech. It is one thing to disagree with someone, but it is a completely different story to be such asses.
    Also, these emails are partial “vagina mongering” and partial talking points from MoveOn.
    This is just a question that I think someone might want to investigate. The only reason Im asking it, is due to all the other frauds that Obama seems to be involved in and I find it strange that no one can find much about his Columbia records.
    Back when Obama graduated from Columbia the records were not computerized.
    Back then many many people were actually buying degrees. Many people got jobs and higher education from degrees that they never actually earned.
    According to Fox, they talked to hundreds of Columbia students who graduated the same year he did, yet not of them remember him.
    Just curious and I think an appropriate question.
  • http://www.theindependentview.com Matthew Weaver
    Why are you listening to the Obama nutroots trash? There are so many lies out there about who Palin is and is not that it is ridiculous to give any of it concern. Anyway, the real and only issue that is pertinent, in my personal opininon, is character–Obama has none and Palin has lots. Biden, personally is fine, and McCain is excellent. Otherwise, if you worry about issues you feed into the argument for Obama because he may believe x or y. What Obama believes is very suspect anyway. Character will be Obama’s fall, not issues.
    This should be easy to determine–pictures of grads, newspaper lists of grads, etc. I’m not especially surprised that no one remembers Obama as it really depends on what he did outside of class. For myself, I seriously doubt anyone would remember me, even a month after graduation because I was only on campus for classes and spent time working and at home studying otherwise.
    I agree with you about O’s character — zilch, zero, nada. He’s a null set in that department. That’s why I can’t vote for him.
    And I do think that Palin believes what she says she believes. But so does Charles Manson. My point is, I’m trying to figure out what is more important to me. Trust is a good thing — but I don’t trust Bible literalists at all. Frankly, they’re just plain ol’ lazy thinkers. And usually hateful.
    The only thing that has remained constant for me is my disgust at Obama. Everything else keeps shifting in this bizarrely non-partisan year that I’m having.
  • kinthenorthwest
    I think I have to agree that the names they say she used seem a bit out of place for her generation.
    I do have a feeling that the Obama campaign had better cool it a bit. The bias media is starting to realize they are losing the public due to their in the tank attitude of Obama.
    If they keep on trying to get small tibits that cannot be 100% proven they are going to lose lots of votes.
    Remember most of what is out there against Obama is in his own words and/or writings.
    This is going to be one very interesting election.
  • Hope Floats
    OK, you have stepped off the “Palin train” onto the crazy train. Charles Manson. Are you fucking kidding me? And “hateful.”
    You have no links that support your claim or say where they come from. Sarah Palin has never said anything that would lend credibility to your wild theory or slurs on her character. You sound like a religious bigot with an agenda.
  • AC
    “Frankly, they’re just plain ol’ lazy thinkers. And usually hateful.”
    Points worth keeping in mind. The dilemma is how do Democrats gain clout in a McCain administration. That’s the only way we’d be able to keep a watch on his maneveurs. I’m inclined to think that McCain will be moderate about the social issues and as vice-President Palin will have to follow his ideological precedent. Not unlike what Johnson did with Kennedy’s.
    Also, Palin doesn’t strike me as either lazy or hateful.
  • Hope Floats
    Good on Michelle Malkin for stepping up to bat. I have heard her attacked by former progressives now nutrooters, and I’m of the mind now that I should start reading her column.
  • mrduffin
    Maybe Sarah could get the same deal BHO got from Fox. That is if they promise to be nice and not ask hard questions they might submit to an interview.
    Let’s see..does that sound like a deal Sarah would ask for? NO!
    It is a deal BO demanded before he would appear on Fox. It sounds like BO is the one scared of what he may be asked.
    It is also true that BO NEEDs to be on the shows to explain his lies and the other BS he has put out during the past 19 months. Sarah has no need to go on the defense when her offense is working just fine.
    BHO/Biden are punks and going down in November!
    I like John McCain, but I realize his views on many issues differ from mine. The only reason I will vote McCain/Palin come November is because I think the Democrats didn’t learn anything from their losses in 2000 and 2004 – apparently they need at least 4 more years to learn that the way to win elections is not by catering to the extremists in their midst, but by trying to appeal to middle America which is exactly that: MIDDLE.
  • Monet
    There’s a lot of spin in Anne Kilkenny’s email, just as there is in Deb Frost’s email and in background information that the McCain campaign has given us.
    I don’t want spin on Governor Palin. I want facts. The spin is a nice place to start to research the facts, not a place to stop and say Governor Palin is wonderful, America’s Margaret Thatcher.
    Are we going to start researching the spin for facts or like the Obamabots take the spin as truth and declare Senator Obama the next JFK? Are we so afraid that we’ll dislike the factual truth about Governor Palin that we’re not going to seek it out? Personally, she could be a serial killer and I’d probably still vote for Senator McCain. That’s how committed I am to not voting for Senator Obama. But before I cast my vote for Senator McCain, I do want to do so knowing informed facts about both him and Governor Palin, not the spin.
  • Kim
    I know that Sarah Palin may have some ideas that I don’t agee with, but she will not be the president. John McCain will be POTUS, and therefore, HE will dictate policy. She will have to defer to him. She can make suggestions, but he ultimately will have the final say about everything.
  • http://Dinocrat gardenvariety
    Every election I make the mistake of getting attached to a candidate only to be disapointed by him/her later (case in point: John Kerry). These primaries I decided not to repeat that mistake. I voted for Hillary because I thought she’s the better of the 2 candidates and because I admired her fighting spirit and her refusal to listen to the talking heads and the party leadership and withdraw from the race. Living in PA, I was glad to be able to make a CHOICE and not just follow what was already decided.
    McCain is a politician. So is Palin (or Hillary for that matter). I don’t expect them to be perfect and I’m not going to get upset about every “revelation” or pseudo-revelation about them (unless it’s something really big and important). I will vote McCain/Palin because I want Obama to lose (and with him the entire party leadership) – nothing more.
  • Dr. Kate
    Agreed, R.C.
    One of the things I respect about Palin is that she strongly holds her own views but does not impose them on others….which is what an ideological administration does. That is important to me.
    One of her first acts as governor was to reject a legislative bill banning benefits to gay couples. She did what she should have: contacted the AG and got legal opinion, and vetoed it on that basis. And she is not pro-gay marraige. That speaks volumes in itself.
    They don’t call her “Governor” for no reason.
  • Monet
    ” I will vote McCain/Palin because I want Obama to lose (and with him the entire party leadership) – nothing more.”
    Garden, I want Senator Obama and the entire DNC leadership to lose too. To bring that about, I’m willing to vote for Senator McCain. However, what I’ve discovered about Governor Palin (not from spin laden emails, but from print media), I’m not comfortable with. I wouldn’t vote Republican if she was at the head of the ticket, I’d vote third party, write in or abstain.
    Even though Governor Palin has the vice president slot, I still want to know the facts, not the spin concerning her. I’m done with watching CNN (well, Fox these days), grumbling at the tv and then putting whatever is going on within our government out of my mind. The last eight years has had a negative effect on my life and I’m not going to sit quietly by for the next four if things aren’t getting better for me. I’m going to participate and raise my voice. Governor Palin’s policies are ones I don’t agree with and several are contrary to Senator McCain’s history of voting. If his administration begins leaning towards Governor Palin’s policies, I’ll speak up.
    I’ve been an avid reader of No Quarter for several months now. I’ve enjoyed it because the contributors do a very good job of taking the spin, shaking it up and discovering the facts. Over the past week where it concerns Governor Palin, I haven’t seen it. There’s been a tendency to take the good spin about her and believe it’s gospel, while attacking any negative spin. That’s how the Obamabots operate. I know we’re all desperate to believe that we’re doing the right thing in not voting for Senator Obama and keeping our fingers crossed that Senator McCain wins (whether we’re voting for him or selecting another option), but putting our heads in the sand concerning Governor Palin isn’t the way to do it. We should be well informed about her, know the factual truth – both good and bad before we vote in November.
    I’ve been surprised by the tendency over the past week not to delve into Governor Palin’s background the way we have with Senator Obama. Are people afraid that they’ll discover she’s too conservative for them, she has a few skeletons and that will make it impossible for them to vote for Senator McCain?
    No indivdual will ever garner honest praise from everyone…that is not human nature. Try sitting in any organizational meeting, and then listen to the after effect.
    So far, Gov. Palin is holding her own, and my impression is that she would have been honest with McCain about potential pitfalls!
    I hope that is the case!
    You missed what I was saying with the Charles Manson comment — figure it out. I wasn’t equating the woman to a killer — I was pointing out the difficulty in how to value someone’s words.
    Every one has an agenda, so that accusation is just stupid.
    And yes — I am ‘bigoted’, if you’d call it that, against the religious right. INTENSELY. And if you’re one of them, let’s just stop talking now.
  • JAY in Los Angeles
    This is what I’m hoping for as well, AC.
    Dozens of private citizens have delved into Senator Obama’s background. If they hadn’t, we wouldn’t know he used the last name of Soetoro while in Indonesia or that his parents listed his citizenship as Indonesian. We wouldn’t know the Hawaii birth certificate was doctored. It’s the work by these private citizens that Berg has based much of his lawsuit on.
    I’m curious why so many who participate in this blog are drinking the Palin Kool-aid? If bloggers hadn’t been suspicious of Senator Obama’s claims, we wouldn’t have ferreted out the facts we have now discovered.
    I’m happy Palin is the vice president nominee. She’s given McCain’s campaign new life and I hope her rising star keeps rising through November 4th. But if there are skeletons in her background, it’s better to bring them up now so the McCain campaign has time to recover. Having them show up on October 30th could hurt.
    A speech she gave at her church in Wasilla after she became governor is questionable. She’s talking to what appears to be young adults who are missionaries for the church. She asks them to pray for the natural gas pipeline because the will of God will be needed to get it constructed. She also states the war in Iraq is a task from God. Which I found discomforting since extremist Muslims tend to use a similar argument. But what I found kind of alarming (beyond mingling of God and government, but she was speaking to a religious audience) is the pastor speaks after Governor Palin and says something catastrophic will happen to the lower 48 states and the refugees will flock into Alaska who will need the ministry of the church. This is Governor Palin’s childhood church that she supposedly has since broken away from because they became too weird for her. But that was in an email filled with spin. I’d like to know if it’s fact she has broken away from them. The speech had to have been within the last year because she is referred to as governor and she mentions her eldest son’s age.
    Is the Puma party line is that we’re going to ignore stuff like this, pretend it doesn’t exist and hope the Obamabots don’t find it? It’s not going to work, they’ve already found videos of the speech I mentioned and have their comments popping up all over it. Parts one and two of the church video (watch only the first few minutes of the second part, the rest is Obamabot propaganda and not worth the bandwidth):
    I am not concerned or worried about John McCain. I believe, as does Bill Clinton, that he is a true Patriot and loves this country – America! I believe the same of Sara Palin. John McCain is a maverick and has crossed the aisle several times – indeed has voted against Bush/Cheyney proposals when Barack [REMOVED BY ADMINISTRATOR] Obama has voted for them. Soetoro/Obama is more dangerous for America and Americans than any right wing Republican could ever be – and I am positive McCain is no right-wing Republican.
    Sara Palin seems to be a sensible kind of Governor who believes in fighting injustices and has, and in looking after her state’s financial interests. With her coming involvement in ‘children with special needs’ I don’t think it will be long before she takes a good look at health care in that regard and the costs currently before the average American – of which she is one. I would hope that Senator Hillary Clinton could sit down and discuss that with her. We are all in one country not two separate ones.
    John McCain is going to use Democrats and Independents in his government – he truly is a maverick. I like him – he is an honest man and a Gentleman. He and none other was praising of Hillary Clinton during her trials throughout the primaries – that I won’t forget as I won’t forget how unpleasant, dirty and evil the Obama crowd coupled with the dnc and media were to and about her. I hope Hillary remembers that.
    Fact is the Democratic Party, as it is now, is a rabid anti-democratic party – full of hate towards any who do not support their non-vetted candidate Soetoro/Obama.
