The Democrats Are On Defense, And They Don’t Play It Well

brown.jpgAnglachel’s Journal is excellent as usual. She has introduced us to a well-known politician in California, Willie Brown. According to Anglachel, Mr. Brown is the reason there are now “term limits”.

Willie Brown wrote an article today in the San Francisco Chronicle with some information about the Democratic Party and the McCain/Palin ticket. And this is part of what Willie Brown had to say,

The Democrats are in trouble. Sarah Palin has totally changed the dynamics of this campaign.

Period.

Given the national poll numbers posted today by USA Today/Gallup, I would say the Democrats do have a problem. One of the things they are doing to counter “The Palin Effect” doing is dispatching Senator Hillary Clinton to Florida to get the “low-educated” female vote … i.e., saving Obama’s butt!

Brown says Obama/Biden are going to have to explain their positions. More on this:

From taxes to oil drilling, Democrats are now going to have to start explaining their positions.

Whenever you start having to explain things, you’re on defense.

Mr. Brown actually watched Palin’s speech twice to catch all of the nuances about Palin and her speech giving talent. And he said this:

Her timing was exquisite. She didn’t linger with applause, but instead launched into line after line of attack, slipping the knives in with every smile and joke.

And she delivered it like she was just BS-ing on the street with the meter maid.

She didn’t have to prove she was “of the people.” She really is the people.

Brown has a sense of humor as well. He felt the only thing Palin didn’t do was invite us to her daughter’s wedding. He said it would be like “church on Sunday”.

And he said this,

As for Palin herself, she is going to be very, very effective on the campaign trail, especially if McCain’s people can figure out how to gently keep her from getting into confrontations with the press.

If she can answer questions like she handled herself at the convention, Palin will turn out to be the most interesting person in all of politics, and the press will treat her like they treated Obama when he was first discovered.

One of the more prophetic statements put forth by Brown is “And remember, the Palin bandwagon needs to roll for only two months.”

Anglachel had more to say about Willie Brown and his summation of the McCain/Palin ticket. And she had this to say:

First off, I note that this is how you evaluate a political opponent. He has taken careful inventory of everything she brings to the table and is looking at her the way, say, an undecided voter would. He isn’t looking to criticize her but to defeat her, which is something different than having the right policies.

Palin is in the position that Obama was a year ago, the darling of the media. Not all media embraces Palin but enough regular citizens do and that is who really matters. McCain/Palin have been drawing very large crowds for now that the Republican base has come alive!

Anglachel and Brown have been channeling one another and agree on something Brown said today.

(he)…. said something I’ve been thinking the last few days, that Palin is like nothing so much as Obama himself at this time last year, a fresh new face that the press finds endlessly fascinating. Unlike Obama, she only has to keep that presentation going for nine more weeks and one debate where Biden is already hamstrung due to the rabid response of the Obamacans.

Well Obama said this week he could take Palin in hoops but how about the General Election?

  • Patrick

Today alone we have Joe Biden saying that Palin’s VP would be a ‘step back for women’ and Biden saying if Palin really cared about special needs kids, she wouldn’t be against stem cel research.

And BREAKING: Fox News just reported that the McCain has (and has had) a photo of the three main people on the committee looking to push the Troopergate issue at an Obama headquarters in Alaska.

    AND THAT ENDS THAT!

    Take care,
    Patrick

      that is disgraceful…

why don’t they just come out and say they have lost the election, that american voters don’t want Obama?

this charade of “points” or issues to stand on are a joke…

Five days after Obama said families are off limits, Michelle Obama feels it necessary to tell us all that the Obama’s will not have anymore kids because the “presidential race is enough additional responsibility”.

The Obama campaign is telling us that Sarah Palin is unfit to run for VP because she has too many young children. The Obama campaign is afferming and endorsing the sexism that has polluted the MSM, the blogs and the rhetoric of the democratic primary.

This announcement tells America that the Obama campaign has nothing left to stand on, nothing left to offer the voters and that they are truly desperate.

More importantly, it also finally unmasks the true origins of the smears spread about Palin’s daughter, the disgusting lies about Palin’s newly born son and the appalling sexism Americans have had to endure over the last year as nothing more than Obama campaign talking points.

Now we just have to wait for Obama to say, “That is not the Michelle I knew”.

Why does the Obama camp call the women Hillary is coming to get in Florida “low-educated white women.” What does that mean exactly? If I don’t have a masters, does that mean I am low-educated? If I don’t have a bachelor’s, does that mean I am low-educated? If I went to a community college, does that mean I am low-educated? If I just have a high school diploma and worked my way up through the years to an Executive Administrative Assistant to the President position, does that mean I am low-educated? If I only have a GED but I am in training for an entry level position, does that mean I am low-educated. If I am a single mother, working two jobs to take care of my child, does that mean I am low-educated?

What exactly are we talking about when we talk about the white low-educated woman?

        Anybody?

        • http://www.TheOtherDemocrats.com FloridaEx-Dem

Obama and his Obots are nothing but fucktards. I don’t think he can come close to winning Florida.

        • Typical Bitter Whitey Woman

Did the campaign really use the term “low educated?”

If so, I would assert they they are the stupid ones.

          • Hope Floats

Yes, they really did. It’s on record with the NYT.

            • Thinker

              wow.

That con artist is beyond arrogant.

        • Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose?

“Low -educated” means you reject the spoon fed “news” directed at you by CNN, MSNBC, Daily Kos, and various and sundry MSM outlets.

It means you don’t take every one of Obama’s or Howard Dean’s or Pelosi’s utterances as gospel truth.

It means you have your own mind and you know how to dig to get the story behind the fanatastical facade.

        • Diana L. C.

It’s his “polite” way of saying that the women who are not for him are “stupid.” So despite your many accomplishments, you are,in his eyes, stupid for not recognizing his amazing messianic qualities. (Of course I’m being facetious.)

        • Arabella Trefoil

I heard Tweety and other commentators calling them “low information voters.” When Hillary started winning in the primaries, Tweety et al., were defining this group as people with “a high school degree or less.”

Tweety thought these women were “a problem.”

          Nice, huh?

        • ObamaNo

          You go girl.

        • peep

          What does that mean exactly?

Democratic Party Voters smart enoguh to vote for McCain of course.

And that Obama campaign as we assumed, have a bias against white women.

        • Liz B

I think it means any white woman who A) doesn’t support him and B) won’t write a check or stand around looking like a dumbass white volunteer for Obama. Truth is the white women who back Obama that are over 22 are the same ones who line up for botox, call their kids babysitters au pairs, and organize bake sales for Obama (SERIOUSLY in Vienna, VA they did it) they also most likely joined up with Team Obama because they have no sense of themselves, and when the Obama talking points first came out they advertised their candidate as the one who appealed to upper class, well educated and modern and cool (i.e. young) women and said Hillary represents the oppressed, overlooked, bitter, middle aged, low income, uneducated women; so if you think of yourself as old and washed up, she is your candidate! Basically the same thing they are saying about Sarah Palin now. There are some people who believe that they should spend at least 500 bucks on a pair of heels, 150 bucks on anti wrinkle cream, and get this, they now need an “incentive gift” like a Mommy Makeover, new right hand diamond ring, spa vacation, new wardrobe (you get the drift) just to give birth to their own child!!! Wow, little did I know, that my babies, and the flowers by my bedside and that look of amazement on my husband’s face after our kids were born was white trash and redneck. Thank God I’m not so well educated I can’t recognize Bullshit when I see it, or maybe I stopped caring whether I was doing what the cool people do after I left High School. Either way, the Dems are going under and I am smart enough to call that!

          • Thinker

Thank God I’m not so well educated I can’t recognize Bullshit when I see it.

the oblahblah constituency scores rather high on the classism scale.

seems like classism and sexism/misogyny are not nearly as important
          to them as racism.

very huge mistake that is now coming back to haunt them.

Hillary scored big with us working class/middle class dems and indies.
she was/is what is called a true class ally.

          the Precious….not so much.

“white low educated white women ” is an elitist classist/ sexist/ bigoted slur, something obobo’s handlers are too stupid to realise that we see for what it is.

Gov Palin’s visceral and honest connection to so many of of us is that she IS us.

this is the kind of connection to the heart of the dem party the obamacoup lacks and will never have.

that ship sailed some months back in San Francisco at the big money dem fundraiser where obama got caught with his foot in his mouth…..the bitter gun toting folks who pray too much hopey changey thingy. you remember that.

          i bet obama does too.

this is why our votes will go to the McCain/Palin ticket in nov.

I had a sweet young thing with a DNC polo shirt ring my doorbell last night and breathlessly announce: “I’m from the DNC and we’re trying to get Barack Obama elected.”

I responded: “I’m sorry, but I’m not interested in getting Obama elected.”

She replied somewhat snottily: “Well thanks for opening the door to me.”

I’m sure she thinks I’m one of the uneducated unwashed. Little does she know that I have an M.S. in computer science.

      • csuzeq

patrick — to Biden I say that its the Obama campaign AKA the Democratic Party who has set back the cause of women. How does Joe Biden feel about a party who promoted what a bad mom Sarah Palin is because her 17 year old daughter got pregnant. And attacking that daughter with impunity — what does that look like? It looks to me like a party who lost its way — after all they have lost every election so how would they know how to win? Now they think attacking women is the way to win an election because Hill’s Gals will not vote for Obama. Instead more and more women who never supported Hillary are jumping aboard the McCain bandwagen to stand up for this feisty lady. And for their next trick……………….

I live in California, and Willie Brown has always been a colorful character in California politics. He knows what he is talking about. I would say that he is right on in his observations. Give McCain credit for making the right pick, and give Obama, a big fat zero for his diss of Hillary. He was too proud to admit that he needed her. His loss… and it will be a big loss, come November.

IMO, it has nothing at all to do with Obama’s pride or anything else, except that he wants to be in the WH and the Dinosaur Dems offered him a chance to do that. The deal was to trash the Clintons and frame them as racists. Obama had no choice about his VP, the Good Old Boys in the SEnate (Durbin, Kerry, Kennedy) and one out of the Senate–Daschle–told Barry who his VP would be and it was never going to be Hillary or any Clinton.

Well Obama said this week he could take Palin in hoops but how about the General Election?

He always has some snide remark to say about women. Senator Obama please get a clue. Governor Palin is running for VP. You are debating Senator McCain, not Palin. We realize you have this hatred that lives and breathes inside of you for women, but she is not your target. The best way to defeat your enemy, is by knowing your enemy…he gave McCain and Palin all they need to know. I think McCain being a soldier/POW knew it in the primaries with how he talked too, treated Hillary. That is why he chose Sarah. He promised women he would help to move women forward. To place them in higher offices. He gets to keep his promise to women, and he gets to defeat his enemy in one swoop. He chose someone we all could identify/asscoaite with, which proves he not only plans to serve the American people, he plans to make sure she is safe from her enemies because he takes the time to know/study the enemy.

      • Thinker

        Exactly.

        CNN can kiss my ass.

    • Newly Independent

CNN is asking for Hillary Supporters to come forward with their stories including WHY they will not vote for BO. Please pass this info on to all the other PUMA sites.

      F— CNN.

For MONTHS, Hillary supporters have hollering loud and proud the many reasons why we won’t vote for Barack Obama. With the exception of FOX – of ALL networks – NONE of the other networks were listening to nor taking us seriously.

The MSM assholes didn’t give a damn then. And they DON’T give a damn now.

We are through with those bastards. And we’re through talking about this race to those lowlives.

Since I’ve stopped watching virtually ALL of the networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, etc.) since February, I’ve been alot happier. Only on occasion do I check out their “news.” And I usually regret it when I do.

    • Deep Truths

If I were to respond to CNN I would tell them its because of Obama’s ties to domestic terrorist, convicted felons, taking money from overseas, his lack of a ‘paper trail’, caucus intimidation by his thugs, DNC bias towards him and against all tc things Clinton, the Obama kiss ass MSM, etc, etc.

Ergo to wit, my decision has nothing to do with Obama being an empty suit, man-child, narcissistic, whiny, not ready for prime-time, snide personality, megalomanic. Nothing at all to do with the former.

  • http://deleted OBSP

There are highly educated black women not supporting this ticket. Who are they going to dispatch to convience us?

    • beverly leslie

I would imagine they are taking your vote for granted.

      • Irish1139

According to Obama, it is only the white low-educated Hillary supporters who won’t vote for him. I think he is assuming that all those women who are highly educated (whatever that means) are voting for him.

I am sick of that phrase of his “white, low-educated women.” I don’t know what it means.

        • bemused

It means he hates women and white people, he has a major ego issue over how smart he is and people who aren’t as smart aren’t important, and therefore uneducated white women are the lowest of the low in his category list. It’s another way of denying responsibility too.

        • http://deleted OBSP

Does that not just piss you off? The media is totally missing the appeal. Not of Palin, but McCain she was Cherry on top of my Apple Martini.
There are alot of problems that GWB will leave on that desk and only McCain can handle it since Hillary is out of the race. I’m going to pray that Justice Stevens and Gisberg stay healty for the next 4 years if not, we have a congress with balls not to put another Roberts on the bench.

The response was double what they anticipated. See ya there, and come in Red.

The BBC is now telling us that Brown is supporting Obama again. Good thing he can’t vote. I think that all other countries who are for Obama are just scared of McCain and think they can tip the hand in the vote. hahaha

Fuck Brown. He is despised throughout the UK. He’s as much a dunce as BO. He’s paving the way for the conservatives to re-take the government. The conservatives are calling for new elections and I hope the shithead loses – that’s funny ‘spell check’ didn’t correct me on ‘shithead’. Cool.

That’s a pretty big endorsemnt considering the people of the UK can’t stand the man and he knows he’s on the way out. I thought Obama supporters were supposed to be so worldly…educated.

We won’t even go into what is so very wrong with you advertising for Palin, he not kowing and supporting something. Then knowing and standing up to do the right thing. Proving she’s not just talking the talk. She’s walking the walk.

    • Rob in Chicago

Just asking, but did the Wall Street Journal also happen to include the facts that both Obama and Biden voted to fund the “Bridge to Nowhere” twice, even rejecting attempts to funnel that funding to Katrina relief ? If the WSJ did not include those facts, then their report was a biased, worthless, attack piece. For all of the Senate votes that Obama has missed, he made sure to show up to vote for Republican pork.

For all of you PUMA voters- are you really getting the sense that there is a significant number of Hillary supporters that will vote for McCain/Palin? And, part 2 of the question- has there been a significant shift towards them SINCE he picked Palin?

As I’m reading it now- Barry’s campaign is starting to slide downhill- but I’m not getting too confident yet.

There’s a really interesting piece here from an overseas perspective- long- but fascinating. It has to do partially with Barry’s problem with women:

I believe Obama really has been shaken up by all of is (Pailn) and because he thought he had it all tied up and now that the Republicans have a woman in the V.P slot, Obama and his trolls don’t have any room to move, its like chess, the Republican have made better moves and Obama and his ego never saw it coming. Obama is nervous . if you watch Bill O Reilly interview tonight you may see that his confidence has changed now to playing it to careful. I guess a women can do that to you sometimes (Palin).

    • Diana

His problem with women is he despises them. He doesn’t hire as many women as McCain does to work for him. He doesn’t pay them as much as the men he hires. As McCain does. McCain pays some more. Look at the way he talked to Hillary. Look how he’s dying to attack Sarah. The man hates women.

Tell me the man isn’t a Muslim, women are beneath him. He never gave up being a Muslim. That is why he sat in a church listening to Black Liberation Theology.

The very man who came up with it Dr. James Cone, said it is the teachings of Malcom X(Whom was very Muslim)combined with the teaching of MLK’s Christianity. Not that new Malcom X he’d become when he returned from his trip. His early radical teachings. Plus a twisted version of MLK’s Christianity. Or did anyone ever hear Dr. King say I have a dream, that one day we will destroy Whitey and this White Supremacy that we call the USA. Everything that comes out of James Cone’s mouth is Whitey and White Supremacy. White people are the enemy for him, and Obama subscribed to that theology for 20 years! That’s where Michelle’s Whitey rant came from Dr. James Cone.

    GG:
    Do you still attend Trinity?

    OBAMA:
Yep. Every week. 11 oclock service.

    Ever been there? Good service.

I actually wrote a book called Dreams from My Father, it’s kind of a meditation on race. There’s a whole chapter on the church in that, and my first visits to Trinity.

      • hank48188

Obama named his book after Wright’s sermon called THE AUDACITY OF HOPE, Wright tells the story, that was name of a painting. The painting looked very nice from a distance but closer examination showed all the Ill’s of the world, the White man’s greed in a world of need, the bombing of Hiroshima, etc.

    • abbie

So if he attended every week, how did he miss some of the sermons? This makes no sense.

      • It’s Not Me

That’s why he’s flip-flopped on how many times a month he attends church. If he attended once a week, like he said in 2004, then he would have had to hear the vitriolic, hateful sermons spewed forth by Racist Rev. Wright (which he most certainly DID hear). Now that the world knows how hate filled that church really IS, he’s had to flip-flop and say he only attends twice a month so people will think it’s more likely he never heard those hate filled sermons (which we all know is highly unlikely). BO is nothing but a LIAR. He lies about everything.

I just read a brief article in Washington Post whose headline implies that Palin was overstepping her bounds on personal expenses. After reading the article however you see that this is not true and that everything was typical and on the up and up and that she actually did not claim some expenses that she was entitled to.

If you just read the headline you would think that she had done something terribly wrong, sort of like a National Enquirer teaser. I believe that the Press is interested in her but that they will be attacking her soon in ways that Obama never had to endure. Just you watch…

    • Postmaster

I agree with you, Dab, I think every newspaper, cable network, etc should be flooded with emails of protest everytime they smear Palin. If we all did it, maybe they would tone it down some. They succeeded in trashing Hillary and now they have another woman to dump on.

Samb, Obama voted for the bridge to nowhere. When it came time for Sara to make a decision on it, she killed it.
Yes, she spoke favorably for it at 1st. While gov, she killed the bridge tha obama and biden voted for.
Also, let us talk about flops, obama was against fisa then for it. He was for free trade, then against free trade, now it was all just “heated rhetoric”
In 2006, he said he agreed with president bush on iraq, now he acts as though he never said that and is Mr.Anti war.
    Against offshore, then for offshore,”kinda”

We don’t want to forget that he was against NAFTA:

Regarding the North American Free Trade Agreement, Obama recently boasted, “I don’t think NAFTA has been good for Americans, and I never have.” Yet, Calvin Woodward reviewed Obama’s record on NAFTA in a February 26, 2008 Associated Press article and found that comment to be misleading: “In his 2004 Senate campaign, Obama said the US should pursue more deals such as NAFTA, and argued more broadly that his opponent’s call for tariffs would spark a trade war. AP reported then that the Illinois senator had spoken of enormous benefits having accrued to his state from NAFTA, while adding that he also called for more aggressive trade protections for US workers.”
Putting aside campaign rhetoric, when actually given an opportunity to protect workers from unfair trade agreements, Obama cast the deciding vote against an amendment to a September 2005 Commerce Appropriations Bill, proposed by North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan, that would have prohibited US trade negotiators from weakening US laws that provide safeguards from unfair foreign trade practices. The bill would have been a vital tool to combat the outsourcing of jobs to foreign workers and would have ended a common corporate practice known as “pole-vaulting” over regulations, which allows companies doing foreign business to avoid “right to organize,” “minimum wage,” and other worker protections.” (The Obama Craze: Count Me Out by Matt Gonzalez‚ Feb. 27‚ 2008, a former president of the San Francisco Board of Supervisors.)

    • Lark

Obama is a habitual liar. I have no doubt about that. So Obama knows what works and does not work in terms of how to set up a lie or a smear that will tip the news media and spring them into action.

It seems to me that there was a propensity or a weakness in the media to begin with, maybe already primed and practiced by Bush, that pushes the media in the direction of sensationalizing the smears and diminishing themselves.

Interesting that everyone that Obama touches gets diminished and compromised. Michelle, Oprah, and down the line.

One thing I must admire about Hillary. She may have loss to Obama but she held her ground for a long long time. I really don’t know what happened to her at the end once she realized that she could not win anymore.

As a pathological liar, Obama has the ability to manipulate his environment. There is a connection between the press and Obama and the way he sets them up that needs to be understood much better.

      • nickoury

stinky is nothing but a windsock and that’s no liar.

Lol…..while Obama is trying to defend himself from McCain and Palin in the front, what will REALLY do him in is the knife Hillary puts in his back.

  • RepublicanChick

I’m beginning to feel a seismic shift in the American people. I think McCain might just win by a landslide. Still early, but I think the media’s constant badgering of Sarah Palin leaves many people wondering why Obama hasn’t received the same treatment.

In other words, it seems the media would rather be considered “sexist” than “racist”.

NancyA, thank you for posting Willie Brown’s comments. He’s a rarity in politics these days.

    • Dr. Kate

I wondered if anyone was feeling that way….I am sensing a shift.

It was the sense of TRUE hope I got out of the republican convention (I have never ever watched a republican convention)….that started it for me, and I wondered if it affected anyone else.

For months, Obama has owned the “hope” word, but I never got a sense of hope from him…what I got is guilt…and a sense that we “ought to” vote for Obama. And when I was called a racist, I did some self evaluation and thinking about it, and concluded that I am not a racist. And so instead of hope from Obama, I felt angry that he would lump me into a group of “hopeless”, low information, stupid people.

I’ve got my eyes wide open, and then I see McCain exercise brilliant judgement and choose Palin. I know in part he was looking for our votes, but that’s the kind of pander I can believe in!! :-)

Do I agree with McCain-Palin on everything? No. Do I think they will work with all of us and listen? Yes. McCain is not GWB, but Obama would rule like GWB.

I have been part of the research on the birth certificate, eligibility under Article II of the constitution, and looking at his background teachings, experiences, etc. I filed a letter with my Secretary of State questioning his eligibility to be placed on the ballot in my state; sent my research to the republican party (state level–to forward to national level); and all summer went to sleep with restless, nervous dreams about an obama presidency. National security and our safety in our communities has bothered me greatly about Soetoro-Obama from what I have learned.

Thanks John McCain and Sarah Palin, for stepping up to the plate. I think they will win in a landslide, and I am sleeping way better now, seriously!

I will not stop my research until I am sure Soetoro-Obama is securely defeated. I do think they will try to cheat.

    JUST IN….

THE HUNT FOR SARAH OCTOBER…City Slickers Invade Wasilla …September 9, 2008-WSJ….

Democrats understand Sarah Palin is a formidable political force who has upset the Obama victory plan. It’s no surprise, then, that Democrats have airdropped A MINI ARMY OF 30 strong lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin’s hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. My sources report the first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29.

The main area of interest to the Democratic SWAT team is Mrs. Palin’s dismissal in July of her public safety commissioner. Mrs. Palin says he was fired for cause. Her critics claim he was fired because he wouldn’t bend to pressure to get rid of a state trooper, Mike Wooten, who had been involved in a bitter divorce battle with Mrs. Palin’s sister. Mr. Wooten is certainly a colorful character. He served a five-day suspension after the Palin family filed a complaint against him alleging he had threatened Mrs. Palin’s father. They also accused him of using a Taser on his 10-year-old stepson, drinking in his patrol car and illegally shooting a moose.

Mrs. Palin will return to Alaska for the first time in nearly two weeks on Wednesday night, when she is scheduled to arrive in Fairbanks. Local Republicans will hold a “Welcome Home” rally for her.

You can bet some of the Democratic opposition research contingent will be in the audience taking notes. They’ll be the ones arriving in rental cars and wearing fancy dress shoes from back east.

    • Boxer Mum 06

My guess is their witch hunt won’t last that long. It gets mighty cold in Alaska and their city slicker North Face jackets and boots are just so not fashionable.

    • james

Palin is a formidable personality with minimal experience. Much is being done to try to gloss over her total inexperience with national security issues and foreign affairs. Face the facts: You can’t even say for certain that she could pass an 8th grade geography test.

Her biblical literalism strongly suggests she might not be up to speed on 21st Century science. (The word is NU-clee-ar, Sarah, not NU-cue-lur. It refers to the nucleus of an atom. People who know about science made those big bombs you might be in charge of.)

Her fiscal reformer/anti-lobbyist image isn’t more real than John’s. What did her hired lobbying firm bring in for Wasilla? $27 million in earmarked federal dollars? Then there’s that $223 million bridge project she suported as a gubernatorial candidate, but changed her mind about after her election. She gave the impression she’d opposed it as a matter of fiscal responsibility. After it came out that she’d kept the federal money, the story shifted that she’d used the money for other more worthy projects–hence, she’s still seen as Sarah the reformer.

What doesn’t get mentioned is that just this past February she submitted a 70-page memo outlining almost $200 million worth of new earmark funding requests to Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. That’s the Senator Ted Stevens who was indicted on July 29, 2008 for accepting seven illegal, unreported “gifts”. He’s currently under investigation for a lot more besides.

Interesting too is the fact that Senator Ted Stevens’ son, Ben Stevens, was a paid lobbyist employed by Robertson, Monagle & Eastaugh during the late 1990s. That’s the same Ancorage lobbying firm that Palin employed as Mayor of Wasilla to get the $27 million in earmarks. The Wasilla account was handled by the former chief of staff to the indicted Senator Stevens, Steven W. Silver, who is a partner in the firm. Silver has donated at least $11,400 to Stevens’s political committees, according to Federal Election Commission records.

I’m not saying that means Palin has been involved in anything illegal. Only that she’s not the reformer/maverick that’s being portrayed. Beyond that, we still don’t know for sure what she is.

      • Hope Floats

You’re saying a whole lot of bullshit pretty much. Governors don’t vote on earmarks. They allocate the funds once state representatives have done their jobs. She beats the pants off Obama / Biden. Then there’s still the top of the Republican ticket.

Notice his other interviews, the down turn of his face, and the eyes which do not connect, especially when he makes a committment. Or he will shift his body to take attention away from his words.

        He seems extremely angry.

    • Typical Bitter Whitey Woman

He said that Iran is a small country, not like the “Soviet Union.”

Um, he does know that the Soviet Union doesn’t exist, right?

      • james

Sure it does. Ask John. It’s the that red big country on the globe to the east of Europe, menacing tiny Czechoslovakia.

        • Hope Floats

Exactly. Tit for tat. Sunni / Shiite v. 57 states. They don’t speak Arabic in Afghanistan, either. McCain is right about the real issues like Iran cannot continue their enrichment program as long as they’re threatening their neighbors and sponsoring terrorism. We must finish our mission in Iraq and help the country rebuild. And countries which are attacked don’t have to “exercise restraint.”

  • PattyNJ

C’Mon people…We all know why Obama made Biden his VP. It was to shut Larry Sinclair up about his sexual encounters and crack cocaine binges. Too bad for Obama because Larry Sinclair and the rest of us wont EVER let it go….NOT EVER!!!!

    • workingclass artist

True Pattynj….and that’ll bite Joey’s son in the ass…I smell investigations shorty after the Nov. vote…..hmmmmm…….Gotta love the smell of indictments in the mornin…..chucke….

    • Lin

Please don’t include me in your *rest of us.* This is a non-story. There are plenty of other reasons to not support Obama.

      • workingclass artist

Ehemmm…..Lin…..Palin is under investigation for allegedly abusing her power as Gov. in so-called trooper gate….Now Joe Biden’s son as Atty. Gen. of Delaware abused the power of his office when he threw Sinclair into jail after his press conference….Sinclair is beyond the substance of his allegations….And Joe’s son fell right into it…..Read up on the arrest….It will bite Biden in the ass after Nov. I’m just sayin’

        • Lin

I have *read up* on this. To refer to the Larry Johnson story as if it is some sort of newsworthy situation is low-brow when there are so
many more urgent issues at hand.

          Ehemmm…just sayin’.

          • Lin

            I meant *Sinclair*…my mistake.

            • Rob in Chicago

Not to pass judgment on Larry Sinclair and his allegations (including a veiled allegation of conspiracy to commit murder of a person or persons affilliated with Trinity Church), but Sinclair did make very specific allegations and invited the press to investigate his story. I may have missed it, but to my knowledge, no one in the MSM has taken Sinclair up on his challenge, and I’ve seen no report of any investigation to uphold or debunk the charges raised by Sinclair. Its easy to say this is low-brow and all beneath consideration, but then why hasn’t anyone taken this story and the very specific allegations and “put a fork in it” yet ? What is gained by leaving the allegations out there to fester ? Why is this story any different than the issues surrounding Obama’s birth records ? If it really is just bullshit, why can’t the press investigate and put the story to bed ? Why can’t Obama clarify and definitively resolve the birth records issue ? Does Obama gain something through these distractions ? Just asking.

              • It’s Not Me

                Rob,

You and I both know the Republican press HAS taken Sinclair’s allegations and investigated them. They have a boat load of garbage just waiting to be released.

It will all depend on how well BO does in the polls come October. They have more than one October surprise, I’m sure…..but by the looks of things, the Republicans may not need to use their garbage. BO is imploding! WooHoo!

In the end this election is Obama vs Obama. People have been asking me for months about my foil hat when I tell them I doubt Obama will get 100 electoral votes. I still maintain that he will not. He’s going to be torched before this is over. A Barracuda on one side and a school of 527 pirhannas on the other. The biggest political question for Obama now is whether he can even hang on to his senate seat in 2010.

    • csuzeq

He will not! He will have been indicted in operation board games by 2010!

And I’d be careful about a challenge to a game of “horse”…she can take him!!!

Media’s Treatment of Palin and Obama

If Barack Obama’s past had been subjected to one tenth the media scrutiny during the full year of his candidacy, to which Sarah Palin has been subjected during the last 11 days, Obama very probably still would be junior senator from Illinois, and Hillary Clinton would be the Democratic nominee…

Decide how many reporters, smut-mongers, detectives and investigators you intend to send to Alaska in an effort to discredit Governor Palin. Then take that number –be it 20, 200 or 2000 — divide in half, and send one battalion to Chicago to find out how Obama rose from total obscurity to great heights in record time, who his closest associates were, what portion of those associates’ beliefs he shares, and what he really believes.

In short, send a team to Chicago to find out and tell us who Barack Obama is.

    • Lark

I heard that this team of smear researchers were sent to find out where Sarah has been.

I don’t know how the news media has the temerity of just saying something like that with a straight face. I just don’t know. It shows a total lack of respect; self-respect, professional respect, civic respect.

I revisited one of my old favorites today, a discussion forum. It was fun!

I chastised a self-declared democrat for calling Palin a fundie “bitch”. Will they ever learn?

  • Mandelay

Thanks for pointing out Willie Brown’s column … that was a fun read.
As for “white/low-educated women” who have been blessed with the label of “Hillary Supporters,” I think it’s very funny. I come from a long line of such women. I was the first in my family to gain a college degree (I am soon to be 57). My Mom and Grandma, the former with just a “9B” level of study and the latter with no formal schooling back in Sicily, were both highly self-educated and well-read, well0-informed women. My parents were both “blue collar.” My Dad was equally well-read and self-educated (only reaching 8B in school). He was a political activist and read three newspapers every day and discussed issues with the family around the table. Obama, for all his self-proclaimed involvement with “education,” does not understand the definition of “learning.” You need a love of learning to get yourself educated, not just in this country, but all around the world. Obama has not grounding in the basics. Keep labeling us as uneducated, blue collar, white women. We’re laughing as we continue to discuss and analyze the issues that matter to us. Obama, you were right about one thing, “race doesn’t matter.” However, we require candidates to have a brain.

    • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

There’s a long list of very smart, successful people who dropped out or didn’t a complete college education. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and I believe that Richard Brannum (Virgin) was a HS drop out.

Love of learning is indeed the key.

      • http://firefox AnnieCarmel

        sorry, make that Richard Branson.

    Another action group? Puma Tipsters?

I’ve been thinking. I don’t want to give up on the media.

As we all know, the media is largely in the tank for Obama. I can think of at least 50 Not-good-for-Obama stories that the media has looked over.

I don’t think ads, debates, campaigning, and votes will be the only way to beat Obama. I think Obama needs to be exposed. I don’t want to wait and see if there is some October surprise. I want to make sure to cover all the bases.

The Obama camp has an Action Wire, which specifically targets media.

I am thinking that it would be good to start some sort of action group that is aimed only at media, and exposing Obama, with the goal of vetting him and getting some answers.

I’m a part of some responder groups, but I also want to be in a group that strictly sends information to the media, not just responds to it. I’d rather push the news out than take it in.

Obama’s camp has a strangle-hold on the media, Bill Burton et al are the ones who send out memos to the media non-stop, all day long, and they push stories hard. The Obama camp is shaping the news.

Maybe the McCain campaign has some sort of action / responder groups, but I am not interested in working from that side.

I think if numerous people forwarded online stories to the MSM on a daily basis that some of it would get reported on.

So, I just wanted to throw that idea out. I’m going to spread the idea around.

    • Diana

They’ve already started one of these groups for women from both parties. I signed up last week.
      http://thenewagenda.net/

    • CountryFirst

I’m with you. I would love to see more action in this area. I’ve been trying to find sponsors for the news channels, but I’m so used to tuning out commercials I don’t even realize ads are running. I did catch a BP ad on CNN. I guess that’s a start.

So, I think you have a good idea. Pressure would help. Post here if you find a group or get one started.

      • CountryFirst

P.S. I chat during the blog talk radio shows (which I love), and ranting and venting is good. But it needs to be turned into positive action.

Vote for McCain/Palin 08. Hillary 12, but not that fool nobama

  • hootnannie

Obama was always going to lose by a landslide. The simple fact that he’s black was a hurdle to get over with many white voters, and when his wife and some associates emerged as whitey-haters, he had to somehow get past this. Instead, he played the race card, even dissing Bill Clinton with this 80+ approval rating among Dems. Since, we’ve learned that he has close associations with Chicago crooks, Communists, and unrepentent terrorists. What candidate could get elected with this baggage? He’s an extremist, and my guess is that voters are not flopping from his camp to McCain/Palin and liable to flop right back. People who were UNDECIDED most likely jumped onto the GOP bandwagon after the convention. People who don’t believe in infanticide are not going to vote for a man who fought a bill to prevent it. People who don’t believe in bombing police stations and government buildings are not going to waffle between BO and JM. People who don’t espouse black liberation theology and Afrocentrism aren’t likely to cast a ballot for a man who’s been steeped in the philosophies for the greater part of his life. Now all he can do is lash out as he sinks into the throes of political dying. He won’t even be elected Senator again. The most he’ll manage is Rep. from the Chicago area. More likely, he’ll be absorbed into Daley’s machine and disappear from national view. Bye bye, Bobo!!

    • Chicago Joe

No, he’s way too big for the Daley machine, and couldn’t be bothered with solving actual problems (and there are plenty.) He was bored by the trivialities of state politics, so though our governor is ripe for the picking, that would be a step down for him. I think he is bored by the senate, too, so I think if he loses, he will do something completely different.

      • Docelder

        do something completely different.

Like maybe be Russia’s delegate to the U.N.? :)

He will have to be careful that he doesn’t inherit his Kenyan father’s emotional problems with not getting to be “somebody” and have a lifestyle change.

It is possible he could divorce Michelle and go totally gay.

But who knows, he might be appointed Ambassador to Kenya so he can hang out with Raila Odinga, his cousin, and make up some muckety-muck there in Kenya.

        • Thinker

I feel the same way. I think Barack will divorce Michelle and possibly come out of the closet. He won’t work in American politics anymore either.

    Breaking News on Joe Biden

Biden: Palin Would Be ‘Backward Step for Women’

Sen. Joe Biden (D-Del.) says that if Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) becomes the first female vice president it will be a “backward step for women.”

UPDATE: Republican National Committee spokeswoman Amber Wilkerson has a response:

“The only person taking a step backward is Joe Biden, whose appalling and arrogant statements are better suited for the back rooms of his old boys club. Sarah Palin’s nomination as the Republican vice presidential nominee is an historic opportunity to break the highest glass ceiling. While John McCain and Sarah Palin continue to press their message of change, Joe Biden should stop these sorts of old-style attacks.”

Now that is the way to hit back!!

The Obama-Biden good old boy team is beat!
