The Democrats Are On Defense, And They Don’t Play It Well

Anglachel’s Journal is excellent as usual. She has introduced us to a well-known politician in California, Willie Brown. According to Anglachel, Mr. Brown is the reason there are now “term limits”.
Willie Brown wrote an article today in the San Francisco Chronicle with some information about the Democratic Party and the McCain/Palin ticket. And this is part of what Willie Brown had to say,
The Democrats are in trouble. Sarah Palin has totally changed the dynamics of this campaign.
Period.
Given the national poll numbers posted today by USA Today/Gallup, I would say the Democrats do have a problem. One of the things they are doing to counter “The Palin Effect” doing is dispatching Senator Hillary Clinton to Florida to get the “low-educated” female vote … i.e., saving Obama’s butt!
Brown says Obama/Biden are going to have to explain their positions. More on this:
From taxes to oil drilling, Democrats are now going to have to start explaining their positions.
Whenever you start having to explain things, you’re on defense.
Mr. Brown actually watched Palin’s speech twice to catch all of the nuances about Palin and her speech giving talent. And he said this:
Her timing was exquisite. She didn’t linger with applause, but instead launched into line after line of attack, slipping the knives in with every smile and joke.
And she delivered it like she was just BS-ing on the street with the meter maid.
She didn’t have to prove she was “of the people.” She really is the people.
Brown has a sense of humor as well. He felt the only thing Palin didn’t do was invite us to her daughter’s wedding. He said it would be like “church on Sunday”.
And he said this,
As for Palin herself, she is going to be very, very effective on the campaign trail, especially if McCain’s people can figure out how to gently keep her from getting into confrontations with the press.
If she can answer questions like she handled herself at the convention, Palin will turn out to be the most interesting person in all of politics, and the press will treat her like they treated Obama when he was first discovered.
One of the more prophetic statements put forth by Brown is “And remember, the Palin bandwagon needs to roll for only two months.”
Anglachel had more to say about Willie Brown and his summation of the McCain/Palin ticket. And she had this to say:
First off, I note that this is how you evaluate a political opponent. He has taken careful inventory of everything she brings to the table and is looking at her the way, say, an undecided voter would. He isn’t looking to criticize her but to defeat her, which is something different than having the right policies.
Palin is in the position that Obama was a year ago, the darling of the media. Not all media embraces Palin but enough regular citizens do and that is who really matters. McCain/Palin have been drawing very large crowds for now that the Republican base has come alive!
Anglachel and Brown have been channeling one another and agree on something Brown said today.
(he)…. said something I’ve been thinking the last few days, that Palin is like nothing so much as Obama himself at this time last year, a fresh new face that the press finds endlessly fascinating. Unlike Obama, she only has to keep that presentation going for nine more weeks and one debate where Biden is already hamstrung due to the rabid response of the Obamacans.
Well Obama said this week he could take Palin in hoops but how about the General Election?
