Now, Laugh Your Ass Off

Obama’s speech was awful. He wants to throw billions of dollars against the wall, hope something sticks and call it a solution. Rather than beat that drum let me offer you an alternative–Jon Stewart. (And after that, a rich desert of “ARE YOU SHITTING ME?” from Olby, Tingles and Fineman.)

This segment from last night’s show is brilliant and laugh out loud funny. Even if you don’t like Stewart you will enjoy this. Promise.

The Daily Show With Jon Stewart Mon – Thurs 11p / 10c
Alvin Greene Wins South Carolina Primary

South Carolina, thank you.

Now, back to our regular programming and discussing Obama’s failure as a leader. If you have not seen the video of Keith Olbermann, Chris Matthews and Howard Fineman trashing Obama you must, MUST, watch this. The worm has turned:

  • felizarte

Pleasd post the original.  I couldn’t bear to watch another speech from him–took a long afternoon nap instead. “the worm has turned. . ”  This is welcome news to hear upon waking up.

  • Annie/Carmel

Thanks for the laugh, Larry.  The Dims are coming unraveled.  They voted for Chance the Gardner (Being There), when they all projected their ideas, wishes, etc., on Obama when he was the unknown, untried, inexperienced slock; now in these black majority districts, it’s just vote for the black guy even if he responds like a mushroom.  I hear it’s the same with the district that put Hank (don’t let Guam tip over Johnson)…he’ll be re-elected until he decides to retire or dies in office. Shame on them.  I feel sorry for Mr. Greene.

  • HARP

A far cry from the way those three usually look.

  • Annie/Carmel

Thanks for the laugh, Larry.  The Dims are coming unraveled.  They voted for Chance the Gardner (Being There), when they all projected their ideas, wishes, etc., on Obama when he was the unknown, untried, inexperienced schlock; now in these black majority districts, it’s just vote for the black guy even if he responds like a mushroom.  I hear it’s the same with the district that put Hank (don’t let Guam tip over Johnson)…he’ll be re-elected until he decides to retire or dies in office. I decided to get my “news” from NQ on the speech as well, felizarte.  I just go over the top when he pontificates.

  • HARP

    Over the past 30 years:

Democrats have blocked the development of new sources of petroleum.
Democrats have blocked drilling in ANWR.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the coast of Florida.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the east coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off of the west coast.
Democrats have blocked drilling off the Alaskan coast.
Democrats have blocked building oil refineries.
Democrats have blocked clean nuclear energy production.
Democrats have blocked clean coal production.

But, they’re funding projects in Brazil.

The U.S. is going to lend billions of dollars to Brazil’s state-owned oil company, Petrobras, to finance exploration of the huge offshore discovery in Brazil’s Tupi oil field in the Santos Basin near Rio de Janeiro. Brazil’s planning minister confirmed that White House National Security Adviser James Jones met this month with Brazilian officials to talk about the loan.

    This radical president is shameless.
He’s pushing for more regulations and his cap-&-tax energy policy that will cause energy costs to necessarily skyrocket.

  • oowawa

Hilarious, Larry.  After Thee One’s Oval Office yawner, I needed that.  Funny thing is, with the free press he is going to get, Greene is likely to get more votes against DeMint than Rawl would have.

  • TeakWoodKite

    This is “normal”

  • donjo

Well, at least they did a few things right.

  • TeakWoodKite

I will have to wait till the late eve for Jon to tell me a bedtime story, as I record in the crib room.

    Thanks LJ.

Maybe the Dumbocrats thought they were voting for the Green Party candidate!

In 2004 I worked as a volunteer for Wesley Clark’s presidential campaign in South Carolina.  On the Democratic primary election day I was an official observer at a rural voting site outside of Columbia, S.C.  I observed and reported to campaign headquarters that a Columbia City Councilwoman who supported John Kerry was doing illegal electioneering.  She stood right at the entrance handing out copies of the actual ballot with the names that she wanted people to vote for marked.  I was told that many of the people voting in the Democratic primary were illiterate and needed to have the marked ballot with them in order to be able to mark their ballot for the “real deal” candidate John Kerry.  Some big handsome AA stud who looked to be working with the councilwoman laughingly told me he would throw me and my coworker into the Congaree Swamp if we made trouble.

  • Annie/Carmel

A little O/T.  Bushwacker:  Dark rum, coconut cream, ccreme de cacao, half and half and coffee liqueur.  Is there a cherry on top?  Barry’s refreshment today at Tacky Jack’s in Alabama.  I’ve never even dated a man who drank frou-frou.

  • Armymom

What the hell did they do right?

  • Annie/Carmel

That is because Soros is invested in Brazilian oil exploration that we just funded.

  • annie

All I can say is what has this country come to since O got in what a mess. Has Matthews finally lost that tingle going up and down his leg………Hillary said he wasn’t ready for that 3 o’clock phone call and I guess we finally found that out………

  • lorac

We need one for BO.  One with a motor mouth, and its hands gesticulating wildly….

  • lorac

Oh no.  It’s 8 pm here.  They’re showing his speech AGAIN!

Guess it’s time to turn the tv off AGAIN!

  • felizarte

It’s now definite:  Obama was and is NOT ready for any call at whatever O’CLOCK.

  • oowawa

Annie, I think Mr. Greene IS Chance Gardner.

  • felizarte

I think Palin nailed the issue on the O’reilly show.

    Thanks Larry for the embed.

You could actually look in Obama eyes and see the back of his head.  I think Al Green is his speech writer.  I can’t believe this clown is the president.  He has absolutely no clue as to anything.  What a waste of oxygen !!  He make a very strong arguement for retroactive abortion !!!

  • BuzzLatte

We didn’t watch Oblahblah tonight.  If it were a movie it would get a Razzie, it appears.

When you’ve lost Tingles and Olbymein, the war is lost.

Get your drink of choice ready:  As of 6-30-2010 – if it holds – Oblahblah will have been in the negative numbers in Rasmussen’s Presidential Approval Poll for one solid year…

I guess there wasn’t a real need for Greek columns afterall.

LJ…..too funny!   The 3 MSNBC clowns remind me of the  Three Stooges!!  WTH, they enabled Barry Soetoro to become POTUS…..Their constant attacks on Hillary Clinton, their blind adoration o the messiah!  Chris, forgets, by sending thousands of youth to the gulf, they wind up sick?  Asshole, unless Barry supplies  adequate protective gear-wait, he follows BP’s lead an they say-there is no danger!

Please note some of the definitions of “bushwacker” on urbandictionary.com:

one who trims their pubic hair on a regular basis.

someone who uses surprise tactics to overtake their opponent.

Gawkers, always males and usually Mexican, that hang out on the cliffs, hills or dunes around a nude beach.

    A stupid ho.

    A fan of hirsute women.

One who tries to make personal gain by the distruction of others regardless of truth, fact or ethics.

Well now, looking at those definitions, I can see why Obama might have chosen that drink.

  • carol haka

Well Pat or donjo, like my history teacher said in 1973, may the liberals in Massachusettes freeze to death in the dark!

I listened to Bachman tonight on Mark Levin.

I listened to Palin tonight on O’Reilly.

I watched the latest video with C Christie.

I listened to Brewer last time she was on Greta.

These are the only people that I have heard that have the courage to tell the truth as to what this country is really up against.  They have solutions and the guts to act.

    140 days until November 2, 2010

    Wow, Larry.
I’ve just discovered that Jon Stewart is the REAL source of news in America.
And I’m actually not being sarcastic.

The Democratic party is imploding, and the media is clueless.
Oh, sure, maybe Chrissie-tingles had a less than favorable comment about his Dear Leader’s speech tonight, but these morons will be right back to  their butt sniffing tomorrow.

That was the worst speech I’ve EVER seen a President give.
What the hell was he doing with his hands, making motions every second?
    I call that desperation.

As usual, Carol Haka is correct in her assesment.

I knew at some point Obama would use the spill to awaken environmental activism.  Obama says Oil Disaster “Most Painful And Powerful Reminder” That We Need Clean Energy

I suspected that ulterior motive might be behind his lack of urgency to contain and clean. Although I am certain his bone headed lack of resonse is incompetence, I can’t help but wonder if the agenda of his puppet masters is to let the oil come ashore.

We are not going to power this countrys needs with solar and wind. Not in anybodys lifetime.

If destroying the country is not their goal, they sure are missing a great opportunity with thier talent. Socialism, exponential increases in the deficit, and wistling in the dark over an environmental mega disaster.

If you didn’t watch Odumbo’s speech tonight. You missed an important clue to his agenda in dealing with the Gulf. All through the beginning part of his speech. He had atleast a serious pose on his face as he read off the teleprompter. But once he got to the part where he is going to be pushing his cap and trade ponzi scam. He had such a smarmy look on his face. Any police officer in the world would know that look as someone who is about to commit a crime and is sure he’ll get away with it. Those who did watch…tell me if I’m wrong. Or did you too notice the self serving smirk on that arrogant jackasses face as he plotted his multi trillion dollar ponzi scheme to rob Americans and make Soros richer!

Hey, I couldn’t stop watching his innapropriate hands!  I’ve never seen ANYONE speak with that much motion.
And no open handed gestures, just dictatorial karate chops and muted points, and “back of the hand” gestures.
    All dismissive.
    Like his face.
    Dead eyes.
He doesn’t really give a crap.

Watch it again, everyone, and watch his hands.  Bizarre.

  • Tamara

Oh, and your assessment is correct!

  • Geoff C..

” Failure as a leader “   When are you ready to take a new job?  If you are hired for a new position or as a replacement, at what point do you stop blaming the person you replaced and start doing the job you were hired to do. As the president you must be ready on day one. BOO not so much. You can not keep blaming the person you replaced for your failure to do your job, no matter what happened before you came into office. People will laugh at you. Hoser. You wanted it so bad now deal with it. You give me no hope, just sad laughter. These are tough times we need a leader not a middle finger pointer. Start doing your job,” Mister I can do no wrong”.    Signed 55% of America.      P.S. get some real speech writers and speaker for America.

  • Annie/Carmel

    It’s crash time.

  • Patience

Thanks for the Daily Show clip Larry — it’s Jon Stewart definitely at his best!

In regard to the oil spill, I can’t decide if the POTUS is appallingly incompetent or if he’s crazy like a fox.  I guess at this point I’m inclined to believe his initial [mis]handling of the matter has led to a makeshift strategy to use this crisis to promote some kind of otherwise-unpopular energy legislation.  I can imagine his handlers brainstorming, trying to make lemonade out of this lemon of a President’s abysmal failure.  My heart goes out to the people of the Gulf and elsewhere who are effected by this catastrophe.  They’ve really been ill-served, to say the least.

BTW, has anyone seen the “energy independence” ads on TV lately?  I’ve only noticed them on MSNBC but, while I’m not one to generally believe in conspiracy theories, it’s something like this that, in light of the situation, makes me wonder.

I’m cracking up because on bot sites they are bemoaning that his speech had no specifics.  They never noticed that his speeches NEVER have specifics…..?????????????  I want to type “ROFL”, but really, it’s just really sad….

So, from what I’m reading online, it sounds like he didn’t speak too much about fixing this current crisis, but focused on his agenda of cap and trade/tax.  (never let a good crisis go to waste)

I suppose he didn’t bother to mention that he belongs to (one of the founding members of…?) the Chicago Climate Commission, and stands to make beaucoup bucks…?

I remember Michael J. Fox saying that he tries to keep his hands moving to either quiet or hide the tremors.

Quick OT – AZ governor on Greta, and another AZ guy, they’re going to do something about not “gifting” citizenship on people born here to foreign parents.  They realize that state law doesn’t cover that, it would be a federal law, but they want to get a fight going to the Supremes so that finally we can have clear, defensible definitions of “citizen” and “natural born citizen”.  Which, by the way, would prevent a lot of border jumping, since many women do it to have the baby in the US.  Now they could just stay home…..  and focus on cleaning up their own country, make some demands there….

Instead of these three stooges being praised for finally seeing the light, they should be strung up somewhere for their role in assuring this know-nothing’s election as well as their role in the utter chaos and potential disaster that we are facing.

Still, however, I do not believe this is the ’worm turning’.  These three fools are die-hards.  Forget 0bama.  They’ve got to protect their own semblance of journalistic integrity – even if it doesn’t match our definition.

I don’t care what these three say from here on.  Like 0bama, I can hardly bare to hear them speak.

Well, I missed a detail.  It was the 14th amendment which stated that citizenship cannot be granted to aliens, not even if they are born here to illegals.  The point of the 14th amendment was to give blacks citizenship, since they were born here.  It was never meant to be applied to aliens.  They also said that the only other country that gifts citizenship to babies is Canada.  No one else does.

I had’t watched any msnbc in two years. I think maybe Matthews gets it. Olberman even is acting as if he gets it as well. No he doesn’t have any specifics. Then again he never did. “Hope and change” isn’t a specific. Neither is an unqualified “clean energy”. Clean compared to what exactly? Nuclear? Coal? Tar Sands? “Clean Energy” means nothing without details.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

Here is one you won’t believe. Even Eugene Robinson at Wapo gets it now.

“The issue isn’t what Obama is feeling, it’s what he’s doing. Why haven’t skimmers been brought in from around the world to scoop up more of the oil? Why isn’t the defense of the coastline being run like a military campaign, with failure not an option?”

Eugene Robinson is criticizing  Thee One. That is nothing short of splitting an atom, getting Robinson to split from the koolaid.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

    From Robinson:

“The Washington Post reported Monday that the administration has received offers of assistance from 17 nations. Sweden has volunteered to send three ships that can each collect about 15,000 gallons of oil an hour. Norway has offered to send nearly a third of its oil-spill response equipment. Japan has offered to send some boom, which authorities on the scene complain is in short supply.”

“The Swedes, the Norwegians, the Japanese and most of the other would-be Samaritans are still waiting to hear from the U.S. government or BP. Last week, according to the Post, the administration did ask the European Union to help with any specialized equipment it might have. But meanwhile, oil has penetrated the marshes of southern Louisiana and is lapping onto the beaches of Alabama and Florida. The main spill is spreading, and hurricane season is upon us.”

“Every available piece of equipment in the world that can vacuum, skim, scoop or sop up oil ought to be in the Gulf by now, deployed under a central — probably military — command structure. The beaches should be defended as if from a threatened enemy invasion. This is a time for overkill, for the Powell Doctrine, for “decisive force.”

As Larry would say, a “no shit” analysis.

  • ~~JustMe~~

    Go Sarah!

I hope this Alvin Green situation is going to be investigated to the hilt.  So…..why would the republicans create a plant to run for that seat when they have a popular US Senator in SC that would probably win by a landslide?  (Certainly not popular from my perspective, but popular none the less.)

First of all I am highly suspicious that Rep James Clyburn would run to a microphone and get out front with his condemnation of this “nominated” dem US Senate candidate who happens to be AA.  I wouldn’t be surprised if Green turns out to be a “Clyburn Plant”.   Clyburn was the architect and executioner of 0bama’s primary win in SC in 2008 that was a huge boost to 0′s candidacy nationwide.   With AAs having a 55-60% registration in SC they look to Clyburn for their every move.  It is no accident that Alvin Green got 60% of the dem vote in last week’s SC primary.

In 2008 Clyburn successfully convinced the DNC to change SC’s presidential primary from mid summer to being the  third contest in the country behind Iowa and New Hampshire, giving AAs an early voice in choosing the dem nominee.  Michigan and Florida were severely punished for doing the same thing.  Clyburn had the magic ingredient of being AA and the House of Rep’s majority whip.  It appeared that only AAs knew about the 2008 primary since many of the planned activities  for the week prior to the primary were planned around MLK’s birthday.

Those events included a march to the capitol in Columbia that B0 couldn’t make, but Hillary and John Edwards did.  Clyburn also got one of the debates to be held in SC scheduling it for that week of MLK’s birthday.   The audience was primarily AA because Clyburn had control of the tickets.  I tried to get tickets to no avail.

Clyburn used the race card to racebait and humiliate Bill Clinton to keep his AA followers in line for B0 and angry at the Clintons.  It worked like a charm since the AAs trust this political criminal implicitly.  This was where Clyburn twisted Clinton’s “fairytale” remarks to look like BC was calling 0bama’s campaign a fairytale when he was referring to both Hillary and 0bama’s war votes as identical yet 0bama was trying to look like he had voted against sending troops to Iraq while Hillary voted to send troops.  Only problem was, 0bama didn’t vote on sending troops because he wasn’t even in the US Senate then.  His was a “reference” to a speech in which he denounced sending the troops.

So – with that kind of political mafia history, Clyburn is subject to doing anything.  It may be that he thought this Green fellow could win over Jim Demint if he (Clyburn) played the cards right – er – and programed the voting machines to do this dirty deed.  Clyburn needs to be thoroughly investigated to make sure he had no role in this craziness.  I strongly suspect he did.   I would further say, his condemnation remarks were simply to cover his a**.

Random thoughts:  Upthread there was some chatter about the Pres helping Brazil’s Petrobras (PBR) that dog of a stock is part of what’s dragging down my pitiful portfolio.  It needs all the help it can get.

Back when GWB was Pres the threads on this blog were gushing with remarks accusing GWB of only being in Iraq for oil, well in retrospect it doesn’t look like we’re going to be getting much Iraqi oil so we have to keep sucking up to Mexico. Looks like China may be the greater beneficiary of Iraqi oil. It’s hard to understand what the hell is going on. Or maybe it’s just too unpleasent to view reality.

Muslims like to accuse GWB of having run a “Crusade” but when it’s brought to their attention the ancient Christian Church in Iraq has basically been descimated under GWB & Obama they just change their rant.

The one thing that appears obvious is Obama wants energy prices to skyrocket on the middle class…anything to trickle down benefits & money. It seems it’s all about obliterating the middle class. Ain’t that a lofty goal? Seems like the billionaires in this county still love him. They got their money so now they want the rest of us to become Euro-weenies dedicating our lives to some nubulus greater good.

And from reliable Obama chorus girl, Barbara Boxer, a declaration that CO2 is the greatest threat to the planet.  Is she, and Obama proposing a tax on people exhaling?  That has to be the most ignorant statement ever from a carbon based organism.  Imagine all the CO2 breathing and Oxygen exhaling plankton being destroyed by the oil slicked ocean?

    Obama’s Long Nose

    Power Line,
    by John Hinderaker

    Original Article

    6/16/2010

I read President Obama’s Oval Office speech at an airport gate rather than seeing it on television, so I might have misjudged its impact. But it struck me as uninspiring at best. Obama has been behind the curve ever since the Deepwater Horizon exploded, and over the last week or two he has transparently tried to stop the political bleeding with a series of symbolic acts. The problem is that these gestures won’t do anything to contain the oil that is already swirling around the Gulf–currently spewing out at an upwardly-revised estimate of up to 60,000 barrels per day–

Eh. I was underwhelmed by President Obama’s first Oval Office speech, as I expected to be. From the moment he began, hands folded on his desk like a well-behaved student, the imagery and energy was off, inadequate to the visual, horror-movie scope of the Gulf oil disaster. Obama said some good things. He made a strong call for a transition from our fossil-fuels economy, declaring that “the time to embrace a clean energy future is now.” He said that when he meets with BP chairman Tony Hayward tomorrow, he will tell him he needs to set aside ….

    Obama’s disastrous Gulf disaster team

    Washington Examiner,
    by Bryon York

    Original Article

    6/16/2010

In his Oval Office speech Tuesday night, Barack Obama explicitly acknowledged his decision to allow some new offshore drilling — a move that came shortly before the Deepwater Horizon disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. Rather than take full ownership of the decision, however, Obama said he had been misinformed when he made it. “A few months ago, I approved a proposal to consider new, limited offshore drilling under the assurance that it would be absolutely safe – that the proper technology would be in place and the necessary precautions would be taken,” the president said.

As much as it pains me to say it, I’m with Tweety on this one.  Why aren’t other oil companies working on this too?  Why aren’t some of the out of work fisherman being paid to lay out boon and clean up the beaches??  At least after Katrina the govt got it’s shit together a week later.  We are 2 months out, and these people seem to be clueless.  Totally disgusted.

Has anybody posted this? It’s almost a month old, but it’s still relevant. This is shameful, and I’m going to write to the British Embassy to apologize on B-Ho’s behalf. Here’s the story.. a Brit who wants to boycott America because of Obama:
    *************************

Obama has refused to support British sovereignty in the Falklands (Photo: Reuters)

The special relationship is over. We gave America years of unwavering support after September 11. And now we see how Barack Obama’s administration repays us.

First, Obama declared that America was “neutral” over the sovereignty of the Falklands, ignoring the clear wishes of the islands’ population. And, second, his Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Crowley, snubbed Britain by failing to use their proper name and instead calling them the “Malvinas”.

I don’t know where Obama learned about diplomacy, but his stinks. I’m normally pro-American, but Mr Obama’s seeming support for Argentinian aggressors, who have no legitimate claim over the Falklands, is gratuitously offensive. So from today, I’m boycotting America as a tourist destination. This summer, I’ll be going to France, not California.

Let me be clear: I’m not normally in favour of boycotts, and I love the American people. I holiday in their country regularly, and hate the tedious snobby sneers against the United States. But the American people chose to elect an idiot who seems hell bent on insulting their allies, and something must be done to stop Obama’s reckless foreign policy, before he does the dirty on his allies on every issue.

If our American friends want to stop Obama shredding the respect the rest of the planet has towards America, they need to stop Obama’s destructive policies – and fast.

But it cannot survive treason from within.

An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and he carries his banners openly. But the traitor moves among those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself.

For the traitor appears not traitor, he speaks in the accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their garments, and he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of a city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist.

Why aren’t out of work fishermen being paid to fight the spill?  Just a guess: if BP hires a bunch of civilians and sends them out into the oil and they get sick or get hurt (which is very possible), they are liable to get sued, aren’t they?  Probably BP lawyers are advising against hiring a whole bunch of people for cleanup.  But then again, what the heck do I know . . .

  • AbigailAdams

I wish I could do sound effects here.  What immediately comes to mind is the sound of the needle sliding across the record and coming to an abupt halt.  I think this is the first time in over 2 years I’ve listened to anything matthews had to say and that goes for oldbirdman, too.  But I read somewhere that matthews felt job 1 for him was to be barry’s cheerleader and to make sure he was a successful president.  Oh, I get it, this vid isn’t matthews, it’s his evil twin, right?

Three Stooges were at least loyal to their characters and didn’t suddenly straighten up and fly right.  These two are beyond pathetic.  Where are their audience numbers, anyway?  They must be pretty rotten for them to turn on their beloved.

  • FLDemFem

“under the assurance that it would be absolutely safe – that the proper technology would be in place and the necessary precautions would be taken”

Well, that would work, except that HIS MMS appointees gave BP, and who knows how many other oil companies, a pass on safety standards. They have the technology, but they don’t use it. Too expensive and too slow. That is why the BP well blew, remember, the BP executive over-rode the safety protocols the Transocean engineer was trying to keep in place. The BP exec was the one who insisted that they replace the heavy mud with the lighter mix and that is what caused the explosion and leak. The lighter mix couldn’t handle the pressure.

The reasoning behind this decision was that they were behind schedule and already $750,000 over projected cost. I would be willing to bet that BP is looking back at that $750K overage with longing, given that they are now on the hook for billions of dollars as the result of trying to save money and get the well producing.

I also think that the well, and everything it produces should be handed over to the American people to cover the costs of the clean-up and the economic damage to the people of the Gulf region.

The guy is doing a great job sinking his own Presidency, even better than his enemies and critics could ever hope to accomplish.

  • Mandelay

Larry, thanks for the videos.  I stopped tuning in to these morons back in 2008.  What strikes me about all of them is that they’ve turned from “cheerleaders” to “coaches.”  They’re not pleased with Obama’s performance and instead of telling the real truth, that Obama does not have the chops/dna/whatever to lead or create and implement a vision, they are “coaching” him.  They are making suggestions on how he can be the leader they want him to be.  They are coaches. Bad coaches, too because a good coach either tells a stinking player to take a seat on the bench, or, talks to the GM and demands a trade.

I noticed this morning on Drudge that Buffet and Gates are saying all billionaires should give away half of their wealth.  Where’s Soros?

I thought these multi-billionaires already established and gave to charities.   If they want to be magnanimous I say go for it and just shut up.  I don’t want anyone pandering to Barry’s communist agenda.  What are they afraid of?  That Barry has the power to take over their companies if they don’t play like friends?
Personally, I’ve always had a dream of being able to live well on 10% of my worth and give 90% away to making the world a better place.  So, I’m with them there…but I don’t want anyone ever to tell anyone else what to do with their assets.  Wasn’t Ted Turner known for giving away substantial wealth…without being told or shamed into it?

For all you know, I already may walk barefoot.  No one is saying to stop producing oil; let’s just be wise and safe about getting the stuff out of the ground.  Digging miles under the ocean floor will NEVER be safe.  I’m sick of everyone assuming that oil is the answer to everything; I didn’t know so many NQ’ers were working for the oil industry.  There are alternatives to everything produced by fossil fuel and at some point in time, maybe not right now, but some time in the future, they will be necessary.  BTW, why doesn’t anyone mention fuel conservation?  It seems to be either/or here.  BTW, most of the crude from the GOM isn’t used here; our refineries can’t handle it.

And, frankly, I would gladly give up plastics, asphalt, etc.

He didn’t notice when it malfunctioned while he was introducing someone, I forget who it was. He re-read the part he had already read and wasn’t aware of it until he was half-way through. Contrast that with Bill Clinton who had a teleprompter malfunction during the State of the Union speech. He never missed a beat, he had it memorized. Of course, that is easier to do if you write the speech yourself instead of depending on a frat boy to put words in your mouth.

  • donjo

I already walk barefoot and I would gladly give up plastics, and other so-called “luxuries” if it meant saving the planet for my grandkids and theirs.  At some point people have to make decisions; I’ve made mine.

Drilling for oil miles under the ocean floor will NEVER be safe, and to allow these hoodlum giant corps the freedom to plunder our resouces in order to fill their coffers of gold ain’t enough to justify it.

The oil industry will be around for a long, long time, but it needs to be kept under some sort of control.  Cripes, they’ve already ruined the marshes, etc. of Nigeria and Ecuador and it looks like the GOM is the biggie of their short-sighted selfish king of the mountain attitude.

If we can’t live without the “luxuries” provided by oil, then this planet is in serious deep doo doo.

Well, she has said Arizona “cannot afford” to send troops to the border to assist federal Border Patrol agents as New Mexico did, so I wonder if this isn’t for the same reason.

  • bamaLV

as someone on tv said  yesterday about barry(i forgot who)’if he cant do the job, he should get out of the way and let someone else take over”  that pretty much covers everything he does(or doesnt do).

I vote for this man and now I feel stupid. I do not need anyone to jump on me and to call me names, I know I was one of those naive who didn’t fallow my brain but my heart,  most of those who supported Obama in last election did same as I did .I want to Hillary do be OUR President because McCain scares me and I didnt trust Palin. We got in impassible election and all Republicans and Democrats candidates ex.Hillary didnt pass the test!!! Now we have Pr.Obama giving US “A” speech witch was empty as never before. He gets worse and worse. Maybe He do not want be President anymore. No energy, just talk.No explanation , just empty talk. He is on road to collapse.GP should be restricted from drilling from any were in the world  and to pay every penny for this disaster!!! Obama has no guts and we need someone who will fight for OUR COUNTRY and I still don’t see anyone ex.HILLARY!!!

Here is a link that is in the comments on PUMAPAC.  They say they’re burning oil and letting the turtles burn up in it, not letting people save them.  I can’t bear to investigate the link myself.

they do have  private citizens down there helping with the clean up..the problem is they are mostly prisoners  on a work release program and have already commited some crimes.  is this the best obozo can come up with? how about the millions who are out of work? then again its probably cheaper for them to hire prisoners.

    Why am I not surprised?

Well, hopefully the Darwinian principle of survival of the fittest will kick in, and the rest of us won’t have to worry about Donjo even having grandchildren.

Please Donjo, I beg of you, start by giving up your use of the computer.

speaking of the 3 am phone call, where is hillary on all this? i havent heard a word from her about this disaster though im sure she would have been down in La. on day 1. so much for obozo being ready on day 1..its day 59 and he still isnt ready. never has benn and never will.  2012 cant come fast enough.

He can be impeached after he resigns. If convicted in the Senate, he would not get any pension, or any other post-presidential perks such as SS protection, office staff funding, etc. He would not be able to hold any public office again, elected or appointed. In other words, he would be off the public tit forever. I am all for that, so let him resign to avoid impeachment and then let’s impeach him anyway. Think of the money it would save!!

  • FLDemFem

What is isn’t funny about Obama?? How about how he is governing the country?? That is not in the least bit funny..it’s tragic!!

  • carol haka

Now your talking – Fiscal Responsibility accomplished by impeaching Ex-Presidents!  WoooooWooooo!

    :-D

  • Onofre’s arm

Anne, if Obama would wave the Jones act, the way Bush did with Katrina, then a multitude of foreign assets could be brought into US waters and assist in the cleanup and remediation. It seems as though Obama doesn’t have the balls or desire to anger certain groups, even though far more people are deeply suffering than he would piss off.

In much the same way that kow-towing to the teacher’s union causes students to suffer, Obama will kow-tow to his supporters like the merchant marines, and forsake the victims of the spill; most of the victims voted for the other guy anyway, so they had it coming to them.

  • donjo

Well, I could do that and then we would be even, since it seems you have long ago given up use of your brain.

Most states are having budget problems due to the loss of income because of the loss of jobs and business cause lower incoming tax revenue.

Arizona passed a law to try and stop illegal immigration into their state.
Backtrack and his bunch are trying to stop that law. How is that helping the country.

He cuts the funding for the border patrol and then crys we can not do the job.

Donjo, of all of the people who post here at NQ you are by far the most ill informed, pathetically shallow, uneducated, and just flat out so stupid that you’re forever cursed with the malady of believing that your smart, when it is quite the opposite.

And while I have supplied a great deal of information in the form of articles, expert testimony, facts and figures, and some of the immutable laws of nature, all of which disprove your pathetic puerile drivel, I’m afraid that my attempt at an educational siege upon your reflexive bumper sticker notions is doomed to failure. Thanks, Larry–good post and good comments!

I have nothing to add, but regrettably now I have to imagine poor RRRA living on top of a whoopie cushion.  It must be hard to keep her horses from spooking or her dogs from barking all the time.

  • candymarl

The Democratic Party is well aware that they backed the wrong horse. The problem is if they admit that they will look like the fools that they are.

The Democrats chose Party/Race over Country and now we’re all reaping the whirlwind.  Apparently, those  that supported the Civil Rights movement forgot the most important lesson MLK Jr. taught: Not the color of skin but content of character.

They are negating all that MLK Jr. stood for. That is an insult to him and what he died for.

I’m glad we can find some humor in this situation ala Jon Stewart. The folks in the Gulf aren’t laughing now and a photo-op of Obama eating shrimp isn’t going to fix this.

Face it, Obama is our Trojan Horse. We, at least those that voted for him, opened the gates. I just pray the end result is not the same.

    My idealism?

I’m glad you are here, Larry.

ROTFLMAO – you are too funny, Diana L.C.!  Thanks for th elaugh.

I have to say, each day, our paper has some new tactic from the state Dems abt how in the world Greene even got on the ballot.  Now they want to investigate from where he got the money (he claims he saved up his pay for two years), this, that, and the other thing, to try and weasel out of this guy winning the election, and by a LOT.  But you know – the Dems don’t have to play by the rules anymore – they just change them to match whatever they want.  Just ask Hillary.

  • Onofre’s arm

    Thanks Armymom for these articles!

“The reason BP and other oil companies are drilling 40+ miles off the shoreline and more than a mile deep is because of the stranglehold that environmentalists have held on politicians and their resulting energy policies for decades.”

This pretty well sums it up, doesn’t it?

When I was taking “Economic Geology” class back in 1980, a class that dealt with worldwide oil and mineral reserves, the practicalities of getting and using those reserves, and the multitude of necessities these resources are crucial in providing, we studied for some length oil reserves and potential new sources for oil. At that time, gas was around $1 per gallon. My professor explained that if the price were to rise to $2 per gallon, then our vast reserves of oil locked in our oil shale would become economically viable to recover. About that time, things were really heating up in Rifle Colorado where Chevron was researching and developing the techniques to extract oil from the shale. They eventually test fired their retort (a way of baking the oil out of the shale in underground chambers which uses up about 50% of the oil to drive the process. The operation, while being a success, still couldn’t compete with the current price of oil, but it wasn’t abandoned, it was put on ice until the time when it becomes economically feasible again. If this happens, then we’ll have 200 years worth of oil based upon current usage. So, when it could have been said after the very first barrel of oil was filled that “We’re gonna run out of this stuff someday”, when that someday is three or four hundred years in the future, it hardly seems to be something to panic about right now. WTH, the sun will burn out or nova 5 billion years from now, but I’m not losing sleep about it.

And don’t expect Donjo to consider or even read the articles we provide to her, it’s impossible to make a dent in something as dense as her skull.

At least most of the rest of us like your info, thanks.

To paraphrase an earlier Matthews comment, for a moment there, I forgot that Chris was a pissing down his leg Obamatron.  And as far as Olbernann is concerned, if he needs to go off on a rant, he should be ranting against media types who just accepted the “Obama story” during the campaign without doing even the most basic level of due diligence on who Barry was and what he had accomplished.  Perhaps if they had, they would’ve discovered that Obama’s sole preparation for being the leader of our country was voting “present” as a state and U.S. Senator.  Well, your man is “present” now that the shit has hit the fan, Olbie.  He’s not doing anything but scratching his balls cluelessly on the golf course, but he is “present.”

Yeah, right. Your brilliance is causing me to go prematurely blind; all you do is pick one sentence or phrase out of a post and then make shit of people, totally ignoring the crux of the message.  Anyone who disagrees with you and/or your “buddies,” or voices a different opinion or approach, is automatically stupid, dumb, clueless, ill-informed, shallow, uneducated, and probably has bad breath and dandruff.  You should feel real proud of yourself.

BTW, the latest trend in running is to toss the Nikes and to go barefoot.  (Although they do cheat and wear a thin rubber “shoe” for protection.”

  • donjo

Since most of us are addicted to oil and it byproducts, it appears we may be able to go directly to the GOM or Atlantic Ocean and just ladle out what we need to our heart’s content.  No more drilling, Thank God. It seems BP has just turned the GOM into a cesspool of oil that may eventually end up in GB.  But we can still enjoy our little luxuries.  According to Russian geologists, (what do they know?) the GOM sea bed is perhaps the most unstable and unpredictable areas on the planet.  They’ve examined the area, apparently, and say there’s more oil already flowing out of cracks several miles away. It was totally asinine to let BP drill this well. The curse of fossil fuels may eventually turn us all into fossils.

BTW, the latest in running fads is to toss the Nikes and to go barefoot.  Better for the feet and legs, as it’s a natural motion. However, runners cheat by wearing a thin rubber shoe to keep out little rocks and other debris. I had a friend just complete a marathon in this semi-barefoot fashion.

Kenoshamarge – you are right to a large extent that we aren’t supposed to say anything bad about Clyburn.  However, having been a liberal since junior high school due primarily to my rabid commitment to  civil rights  I feel it’s my inherent right to call AAs out when I feel there is strong evidence they are wrong.

Many liberals would die first.  2008 changed me when it comes to calling a spade a spade regardless of whose toes are stepped on.  Couldn’t care less what they think.

  • kenoshamarge

Isn’t it racist to believe that certain skin tones must be protected as if they were not up to the slings and arrows every one else has to face? I find that demeaning and an insult to all those that fought so hard for equality. Now many liberals want to make them less than equal. To me that seems like bigotry and condescencion.

I have two very good “girlfriends” who have more melanin in their skins than I do. Hell, I’m so white I wonder if I have any. Barb, who is a Latina and Dee, who is AA are strong, smart, tough women that don’t need any coddling from anyone.

Give them a level playing field and get the hell out of their way. They aren’t “victims”, they are the equal of anyone they encounter.

I love them as the sister/friends they have been to me for so many years.   I am ready to take on anyone, anytime, anyplace that demeans them by treating them as if they were some kind of delicate flowers. Those two “delicate flowers”, and this paleskin are ready to kick anyone’s ass that condescends to us.

I personally may have to request that the ass be lowered because I can’t kick as high as I once could.

donjo, you really are irritatingly self-righteous. I go barefoot too, except in stores and other places where shoes are expected to be worn. I live in FL where barefoot is more comfortable for me. I also use very little gasoline, being a person of old habits. I still do all that stuff that Jimmy Carter asked us to do, combine errands, etc. I only use 1 3/4 tanks of gas a month, and the 3/4 extra is due to my trips to the doctor for chemo and blood tests. Before those trips became necessary, I got through a month on one tank of gas. My car gets 36 mpg. I don’t leave lights on unless I am using them, I keep the AC set at 78, etc. I use canvas shopping bags which I take to the store with me, and ask for paper if I need another bag, or need something wrapped for insulation. With the heat index above 100 daily, ice cream and frozen foods need the extra insulation for the 30 mile trip home from the Winn Dixie. I do have feed and hay delivered, but only because the number of trips in my little car to pick them up would use more gas than the one delivery a month by the truck. But I don’t go around claiming to be saving the planet because of my conservation habits. I am simply doing my bit to save energy, and I have been doing that bit since Carter was president. Just out of curiosity, how long have you been barefoot and conserving?? More or less than 30 years?? Just askin’!!

  • donjo

Isn’t it amazing how well you avoided the question? You’re so typical; slam the questioner and change the subject.

Check out this article on the speech. Apparently, it was a 10th grade level speech, and it “went over the head of most of the audience.” Please…my collies understood it, and they are so dumb they are at this moment growling at my printer, which is off, because it’s not where it was yesterday. “Too professorial” is the phrase the language guru said. I guess no one told him that Obama was never a “Constitutional law professor”, he was a lecturer, and a lazy one, at that.

Kenoshamarge – You are soooo right!!  I agree 100% with everything you said.  It’s about equality for me.  I was a delegate to a dem nat’l conv in the 80′s.  One of the signs I held very high was, “All people are created equal.”  Although I was focused on ERA and women’s equality at that point, my roots were seeped in the civil rights movement.  I was quite sympathetic.  BUT, I believed in equality then as now, NOT the caddling as you are saying.  I completely agree that shielding, protecting, coddling, patronizing are the same as thinking they are not up to defending themselves and in my mind a form of racism.

I appreciate your response.  I’ve been so angry since 2008 that I am sometimes concerned how I come across in regards to equality, especially being from SC!  Although I ‘chew up and spit out’ 0bama, Clyburn, Jesse Jackson Jr, Nancy Pelosi, NARAL, N.O.W., et al, I have not lost an ounce of my support for civil rights for AAs, women,  gays/lesbians, people of color, etc.  It’s just that I’ve felt very betrayed particularly by AAs, women’s groups, and democrats in general that I’ve supported to the nth degree for most of my life.  Hope you see this!
