What a surprise -- more new commissions to investigate government non-feasance. When on earth will our political leaders make our existing bureaucracies perform the jobs they're paid to do??? Why should lazy or corrupt bureaucrats continue to draw salaries when it's proven that they've shirked their duties? It seems as though whenever our regulators fail to perform, another layer of bureaucracy is added, making responsibility and jurisdiction even more muddied.

As well, why is it always the case that new regulations are enacted instead of stricter enforcement of existing regulations?

Government is simply too bloated with redundancy and do-nothing employees.

My guess: If a multi-billion dollar entity desires to be self regulating it must donate handsomly to the winner's campaign. No rocket science here.

As I mentioned in your earlier piece, Larry, the similarity here is truly worrisome. The incestuous relationships on Wall St and now in the MMS makes one wonder [and seriously suspect] that this pattern of collusion and malfeasance has spread systemically. The Government is suppose to be protecting and guarding the interests of the American public at large, not the special interests of those they're presumably regulating. Lines were clearly crossed in both these cases.

As you said, it remains to be seen if reform really happens or if we end up with more empty rhetoric and rah-rah.

Personally, I'm not optimistic.

You are so right on, Larry. I guess it has much to do with no opportunities for BO to have a photo-op cleaning out the pockets of the victims of these Wall Street hooligans.
