The Barack and Toby Golf and Yachting Club

Two images emerged over the weekend involving two CEOs who ostensibly are spending all of their time, effort and energy on containing the oil gushing from the wreck of the BP drilling rig, Deep Horizon–Barack playing golf and Toby Hayward sailing. WHAT THE FUCK!!

Both men take the term “clueless” to a new dimension. Hayward started the nonsense by heading back to England for a yacht race. This caught the attention of the Obama White House. Rahm Emmanuel was on the tube yesterday pointing the accusatory finger at Hayward.

The White House continued the drumbeat today:

A White House spokesman mocked BP’s chief executive Monday for attending a luxury yacht race despite the oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, but then defended President Barack Obama’s own weekend golf game.

Tony Hayward, the British energy giant’s embattled chief, drew fire from the White House over the weekend for having gone to the yacht race Saturday off the Isle of Wight.

White House spokesman Bill Burton took him to task again on Monday, suggesting that Hayward take part in the cleanup operations in the Gulf of Mexico with the 300,000 euro yacht he co-owns.

“You know, look, if Tony Hayward wants to put a skimmer on that yacht and bring it down to the Gulf, we’d be happy to have his help,” Burton said to laughter in the White House briefing room.

“But what’s important isn’t what Tony Hayward’s doing in his free time; it’s what BP is doing to take… responsibility for the mess that they’ve made,” he said.

His comments echoed those of White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel who called Hawyard’s decision to go to the yacht race “part of a long line of PR gaffes and mistakes.”

But when asked about Obama’s day Saturday, in particular his four hour golf game at a course near Washington, Burton said the president had the right to decompress a bit after a hard week.

Oh so Barack had a hard week? The poor, weak manchild needed to decompress? Tell that bullshit to our soldiers in Afghanistan, who have spent months patrolling and fighting without taking a day off to go yachting or golfing. I am a member of TPC golf club. I love to play golf. But I have a job and I must take care of my business responsibilities first. I have played golf once in the last three weeks.

But here’s Barack Obama. He’s played twice in the last week. That’s a minimum of eight hours screwing off recreating rather than doing his job. He’s supposed to be in charge of two wars. The economy remains in the toilet. He’s shutting down a significant portion of the Gulf economy by imposing a moratorium on offshore drilling. And the oil continues to flow. I can think of a lot of thing he could have and should have been doing rather than trying to hit a small white ball.

Hayward and Obama deserved each other. Both are arrogant, clueless assholes. The real difference, though, is that Barack is supposed to be the Commander-in-Chief of US military forces, who are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq. And Barack is playing golf. I don’t know what else to say.

  • trixta

I guess Hayward and Obama got their respective lives back.

“Right betw the eyes!”  You said  it Larry…….I would also add , tell that to our hard working SOS, Hillary Clinton.   Traveling round the world,  putting out the fires, while Barry Soetoro decompresses.   Flys home and continues the grind!  She is like the bunny rabbitt, which keps on ticking……Poor Barry Soetoro had to postpone his return to Indonesia….the welcome home, he was expecting…has to wait………SOS, Clinton, 2012!

It’s not the president’s fault. Every time he hears “gulf” he thinks “golf.” That’s what happens when all your thinking is done on a teleprompter.

I worry that we haven’t seen the worst of this oil spill yet. It’s bad enough already, but I keep thinking the other shoe is going to drop. I don’t know what happens when that much oil comes spewing out of the Earth, underwater. I don’t know what moves in to fill the void that is left. I don’t know if the ocean floor will turn into a giant sink hole or if they’ve tapped into a volcano of some sort. I don’t know what kind of gasses are lurking down there that could come up at anytime.

It’s kind of scary because I don’t think anybody is at the helm. They can complain about Hayward and his yachting adventures all they want, but that doesn’t dismiss the fact that we need some leadership and our best minds at work trying to figure out just how big of a disaster this is going to turn out to be. And to prepare people if there is more to come.

  • sowsear

And when all of your thinking is fuzzy anyway…

  • sybilll

Hayward takes 1 day out of 60 to go sailing.  Obama takes 2 vacations, hosts 2 rock concerts, golfs 6 times, plays basketball 4 times, and a host of other activities, but, Hayward is the bad guy?  BP sucks ballz, make no mistake, and this is their baby, but, I thought Obama said HE was in charge……from day one.

  • Tamara

Obama is the President that allowed this deep drilling.
Obama is the President whose Governmental employees were taking money to “look the other way” with BP
Obama is the President who took HUGE sums of cash from BP for his election campaign.

Obama has a “deal” with BP, and neither he, nor Hayward, give a shit about the people in the gulf.

    I can’t WAIT for November!

  • carol haka

Well, you should feel sorry for B Hussein O because it is over 90 degrees with humidity out there on the links.  And, he did stand out in the rain in the Gulf on Day One.

Our soldiers are wearing 50-70 lbs of gear in 125 degree while in a military uniform dodging bullets and bombs.

I really wish him all the worse.  When he is in hell for what he has done to this country and the rest of the world, it won’t be soon enough for me.

Who was it who said,”I won’t rest until this matter is resolved”?

If you didn’t see Beck today, tivo it tonight.

Best I can remember the facts:  Soros dumped $900 million into Brazillian Oil Company. Obama “loans” $2 billion to them.  John Pedesta and his brother Tony and Soros set up Company.  John is in charge from the WH, Tony is a lobbyist for 2 companies – BP and NBC/GE.  GE got the bid to put all of the smart grids into California.  We all know NBC’s role in all of this.  Obama shuts down drilling, Brazillian Oil Company will make a fortune.

    More of Crime, Inc.

    All should prosecuted and imprisoned.

Are the Dems in disarray?  Well perhaps Alvin Greene was an indicator.  And now, we have Kesha Rogers in Texas, who is the Democratic candidate to contend against the Republicans for Tom Delay’s old seat in the 22nd District.

She’s a young AA woman who wants to impeach Barack Obama and colonize Mars.  She’s also a full time activist in the Lyndon LaRouche Youth Movement.

From her website: “Barack Obama is a threat to the continued existence of the United States, and he must be impeached, or resign. The real question is, what will we replace his bad policies with? Real patriots understand the need to think ahead, to create a meaningful purpose and direction as we rebuild our nation. We know that the next several generations need a better world to live in, which can only be a Post-Obama World.”

There is an artcle in this weeks Rolling Stone you might be interested in reading, if you have not already done so. I’ll try to add the link if that is allowed: It’s from MSNBC. Some of Gen. McChrystal aides spoke to the reporter and said there is a serious problem between the general, Holbrook and Amb Karl Eikenberry on the question of strategy in Afghanistan. The aides said the general was disappointed with his brief visit with the pres because he was unprepared. I would like an independent analysis of the article. I’m not afraid of the future because I know there is nothing to be done at this point except go to a zen place and wait until it’s over. I don’t hate Obama anymore than I hated Bush. I’m just very sad most of the time. I know he is not president. He is the straw man actor who is playing his part. I do wish I knew who is in charge, but some things are never known except in hind sight.

  • AbigailAdams

OA:  How funny you are!  Here’s the context (and Cindy’s right, Abigail was using the example of King Solomon’s wisdom):

“It is not in the still calm of life, or the repose of a pacific station, that great characters are formed… the habits of a vigorous mind are formed contending with difficulties. All history will convince you of this, and that wisdom and penetration are the fruit of experience, not the lessons of retirement and leisure. Great necessities call out great virtues. When a mind is raised, and animated by scenes that engage the heart, then those qualities which would otherwise lay dormant, wake into life and form the character of the hero and the statesman.”  ~Abigail Adams to her son, John Quincy

When the framers of the United States Constitution completed their work in 1787, they acknowledged that the success and future of the republic as established by that document was dependent on the honor and integrity of its leaders and citizens. As John Adams wrote: “Our Constitution was made for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.” Today, the Obama administration, the majority of the members of Congress, much of the Judiciary, academia, and the media represent the culmination of the degradation of ethics….

Since McCrystal is not an idiot I would guess that his comments were meant to get his ass fired.

I don’t know if the excursion into Afghanistan could have ever been “won” but from what I can see it has become a mess that will be nearly impossible to bring to any kind of a satisfying conclusion.

That “date certain” that was something that Hillary Clinton warned about seems to be a problem in Afghanistan. It seems the Taliban can/will mostly just wait us out. And the people of Afghanistan that have some desire to live will begin to turn to the Taliban as that date gets closer.

Perhaps McCrystal has just had enough and wants out before the whole thing crashes down around his ears. Or perhaps he’s just had enough and is speaking his mind and is willing to let the cards fall where they may. At the very least it’s refreshing to hear someone speak the truth. Doubtless he’ll pay a big penalty for it. And doubtless he knew that.

Carol, Obama didn’t write any articles for the Law Review. He is the first editor to not write anything during their tenure. Because of his laziness, the Harvard Law Review put into place a rule that the editor MUST write articles during their tenure. They also changed back to picking the editor by merit rather than having it be a popularity contest like it was when Obama was selected. That was the first year it was set up that way and Obama’s ineptness, laziness and lack of work ethic changed their minds in a hurry. So Obama can claim at least one change for the better due to his performance. Hehe.

But but but, my college aged son who voted for Obama told us there’s really nothing Obama could do about the oil spill.  (!!)  I’m very worried about upcoming generations if they think all the problems facing the country are not the president’s responsibility to remedy.  If the president can’t fix any of the problems maybe we don’t really need him!

Since the attack of 9/11 on our country, British troops have fought and died in Iraq and Afghanistan. We benefited from their support, while the people in England were divided, angry, and hurt by it!
Following the disaster in the Gulf, those same allies have seen American officials “keep their boot on the throat” of BP, and “kicking ass”!
BP has been ridiculed, lambasted, and their assurances about a complete, long-term commitment to a solution have been stridently labeled as dishonest.
The company will be destroyed financially, and again, people in England, and here, will be divided, angry, and hurt by it.
I am not defending BP, but each day I am less confident about a successful outcome in the Gulf. In my minority opinion, a concerted effort by all parties is our only chance!

There are lots of people commenting who didn’t like Bush.  We didn’t elect Obama, we voted for McCain.  We’re not sheep, we don’t wait for the “Party” to tell us how to vote.  We think for ourselves.  People who still love GWB should try it.

Tony Hayward lost his job Friday night or Saturday, didn’t he?  (was he fired like the CEO of GM, by Omaba’s order?)  I have no problem with him sailing, they canned him.  Obama on the other hand is still on the payroll as boss, and ought to be at work around the clock.

Larry, we can impeach him and send him back to Chicago with no pension and no perks. If the charges he is convicted on can be prosecuted in court, they should be and he can spend his retirement in prison. Personally, I hope he gets the worst case of adult acne on record. That would keep him off TV, for which I am sure we would all be grateful.

“I would hate that he loses his pension and benefits.”

If he’s fired that’s from his job as Commander, that doesn’t mean he’s automatically seperated from the military under dishonorable conditions.  Kinda like he’d be relieved of that job  and put in some crappy position somewhere as punishment.  His military career would effectively be over since he’d never get another job appointment of like quality/status/responsibilities as the one he was fired from. As such, I would expect they’d force him to retired or he’d be allowed to retire honorably from the military and retain his benefits.

  • Noogan

Narcissists don’t have the capacity for “shame.” It’s always about them.

However, I wouldn’t brush this man off as just a narcissist. I think he’s a very dangerous narcissist, indeed, but dangerous because of who WE are, not who HE is. We’re in a very dangerous situation in this country; we’ve passively acquiesced over the past 10 years or more, as our Constitution has been slowly and steadily dismantled, so that we are dangerously close to losing it forever.

Yes, yes. I know. It’s not very popular to raise the alarm about how our country is being dismantled right before our eyes.

But, think about it: In 1974, a president resigned because he participated in a scheme to burglarize the opposition party’s headquarters. These days, would anyone think twice about it? Would we IMPEACH a president over such a mild offense as THAT? We now have presidents who have the right to declare us a “terrorist” [they will call it "enemy combatant" and we then can be imprisoned without trial for the rest of our lives--as American citizens, mind you. We now have a president who can actually issue an order to execute us overseas; a president who can issue an order to have us taken away at an airport, sent to a foreign country and kept in a pit and tortured for months, and who will never be held accountable for it; we have a president who can actually attack and invade a sovereign nation which never attacked us, or threatened to attack us [like Poland, or Czechoslovakia, perhaps!] and never be held accountable for it; a president nowadays can actually EXPOSE a secret agent of the CIA–putting her life, and the lives of countless others, and undermining our own foreign intelligence in the process, and never be held accountable for it. And, so much more. Breathtakingly more.

Sadly, we are on a slippery slope to tyranny. We are. And, so once again into the breach, Cassandra:

Yes, he’s an actor playing his part, but he’s a bad actor.  He doesn’t get the “passionate involvement” moves.  Take even a flick like Independence Day, where the President (Bill Pullman) gets personally passionate and involved with beating back an alien invasion: that’s the way it’s supposed to look, Mr. Barack Hussein Obama, even for a mediocre actor in a grade B movie!  Go to acting school!

It’s astroturf magic. Control the message and control perception of reality. Is he the most inept world leader ever? Or, is anybody who thinks that a racist, a tea bagger or just ignorant? Is the emperor wearing a fine suit? Or is he simply naked? It’s all bullshit. If we are going to self balkanize then can we at least split? I don’t want to be in the same country with libtards anymore. Libtards that want to self destruct should be able to, they just should do it without taking us all down with them. Split the damn union already. Enough.

connie, I agree it can’t be good.
To be so outspoken seems odd for a seasoned officer, but General McChrystal made that speech in London that earned him a dressing down aboard Air Force One.

Perhaps, he is willing to save those in his command from failure, unlike leaders who allowed other conflicts to drag on.

It’s not just the oil spill and BP.  When you add the insulting gifts to the Gordon Brown and the Queen, returning Churchill’s bust, and the Obama admin backing Argentina’s claim to the Falkland Islands- Obama is unpopular in England.

Britain has fought alongside with America for a long time but when times are tough Obama backs Peronist cronies, Chavez and Ortega-hardly friends of the US.

    Majority Says Obama Doesn’t Have
Clear Plan for Dealing With Oil Spill

    Politics Daily,
    by Bruce Drake

    Original Article

    6/22/2010

Nearly six in 10 Americans do not believe that President Barack Obama has a clear plan for dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and, despite his efforts in his Oval Office speech to use the spill as a wake-up call for tackling the energy issue, a plurality says he also does not have a clear plan for developing new sources of energy, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll conducted June 16-20. Fifty-nine percent said they do not believe Obama has a clear plan for dealing with the spill while 32 percent said he ….

  • jbjd

Sassy, yes, seems he actually worked his way up to the top, and was made CEO as the result of competence in the field (and not competence to stay out of the way of the people who wanted him in that position). I previously put up a link of Mr. Hayward’s biography.   http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_internet/globalbp/STAGING/global_assets/downloads/B/BPM_04one_P19-22_Profile.pdf

  • creeper

oowawa, thanks for the reminder that reality doesn’t play any part in politics and economics any more.

It’s just that I’ve been reading comments on all the LSM boards, including MSNBO, and if those comments are to be believed, the populace is growing really tired of Barry.  But that doesn’t seem to translate to this poll.  Barry tied his all-time low of -21 on Saturday and now he’s at -13.  What on earth happened in the interim to change those numbers, especially an 8-point positive change?

I’m beginning to wonder if voters will ever wake up.

  • candymarl

He won’t lose his pension tango.
They’d have to court-martial him for that to happen.

When you get that high in rank they just “suggest” you retire immediately.

He’ll get to keep what he’s earned. I’ve seen it too many times.  It’s not the same as firing a civilian without pay or benefits.

  • candymarl

Ooops sorry tango. You already had it right.

  • kenoshamarge

Thank you oowawa. It just seems to me that most candidates for the highest office in the land, whether we “liked” them or not had some experience and/or qualifications for the position. Oblahblah’s resume was thin to the point of invisible. They had to “ride” that Merry-Go-Round before they were even considered for the brass ring. Not Obi-found-wanting.

We actually “knew” very little about him. Still don’t. Nor do his adoring fans. If they ever stopped slobbering long enough to take an honest look they “might” wonder what the hell they ever saw in this mediocrity.

He seems to have skated through life as if he was something special when from what I can see, he’s not. A rather ordinary man with delusions of grandeur that a pin-headed public raised to heights way about his ability, skills and understanding.

He could have served in the Senate for 50 years and still not been a pimple on a “great” Senator’s ass. Instead a fooled and foolish public put him in the White House.

  • kenoshamarge

I used to ask myself how come Bush wasn’t at about a -10 in approval until he finally got his comeuppance. And even then the Bushbots still hung on.

I suspect Oblahblah’s time will come. Will it come in time? I don’t know. But it frightens the hell out of me that the sane people in the middle are surrounded by Bushbots on the rights and Obamabots on the left. Dumb is dumb no matter if it’s right dumb or left dumb.
