Perhaps McChrystal wanted out of the mess in Afghanistan and purposely set the stage by allowing the reporter to hear what his aides were saying about Obama's crew and the war. He must have known it would be publicized and Obama would have no other choice but to fire him. I can't belive McChrystal is so stupid he would have participated in these conversations before a reporter and felt the reporter would treat these damning comments as confidential!

That was one of my first thoughts when across the other side of the world he could have settled it through the chain of command or even over the phone with the CiC. So what is it then? Forced or voluntary resignation? Or intent to humiliate him? Not sure.

It's sad though. I would lay a gamble that the majority of intelligent americans agree with the General's assessment.

<em>"The purpose of calling him here is to see what in the world he was thinking,"</em>

They had to summon the General all the way from the task at hand in Afghanistan to ask that question?

Obama doesn't seem to realize that to do foreign policy right, you have go be very well grounded in world history. You can't see where people are going and why unless you know where they are coming from. History also gives a great insight into the cultural development of countries. Obama doesn't know anyone's history but his own.

There were more than a few WW 2 vets who had "no" repect for MacArther because although he came "back" to Bataan, he left and he left a whole lot of his men there. The PR picture of the day, with MacArthur wading in the water to reach the beach used to get my Dad so furious he was nearly incoherent and couldn't even remember all his favorite cuss words. (You would know how serious that was if you knew my father, Master Sergeant Milligan. Ret. and now deceased. Taught me all my favoite cuss words in spite of my Mother's best efforts to keep it from happening.)

He met with Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zabari (sp?) when he went to Bagdad in July, '08. The NY Post reported from Zabari that barry was there to talk privately with Iraqi officials about delaying the U.S. troop draw-down. The only domestic coverage it appeared to get were comments from the McCain campaign. A jr. senator presidential candidate (not even a nominee yet) telling the Iraqis that the U.S. was there illegally...until he remembered we were there under U.N. mandates. He was in Kenya stumping for a communist/socialist. And he was there under a diplomatic visa as a representative of the U.S. government. I figured if that didn't bring him low, nothing would. And nothing has. What is going on with this guy?

Well, China got the oil in Iraq, given to them by Democratic senators by bidding process. The US didn't even bid on them, or wasn't allowed, I will have to find my story. Had it saved on my old computer and it died. Karzai has said that Japan gets first dibs on the loot in Afghanistan. With Russian controlling most of the oil over there, I would say it would be a good idea to have some oil to bargan with, with other countries. Russia has cut off supply several times as a way of making the countries tow the line. And as far as the bases go, we've built bases in Japan, Germany, S. Korea and I don't believe we got any oil from there either. Like I said, I believed the hype before, I don't anymore. but it sounds good coming from the code pink people to sell their BS.

From what I can figure out, the Afghan War and Iraq invasion was to secure bases in that area and build an oil pipeline from the oil rich
Caucuses 'Stans' countries and send it down to India for shipment to wherever. This way, we can control the ever-needed flow of oil, i.e.,
energy--with control being the operative word.

The world runs on oil, money and drugs.

Obama doesn't seem too comfortable with the troops..see how much distance he maintains from them in pics at two different events below. And if he is not giving the military the support it needs and deserves, could there be another agenda in his folder?? He did say in his book "Audacity of Hope", written when he was a US Senator and not holding committee meetings on Afghanistan, that <strong> "I will stand with the Muslims should the political winds shift in an ugly direction." </strong>
Is he doing just that by hobbling the military who are, horrors, killing Muslims?? Can't think of an uglier political direction than dead, can you?

FlDemFem-- I concede that reading The Prince twice-- and understanding it-- especially at the age of 12, trumps my <em>sneaky, scum-sucking, and scamming swindler</em> talents. When I was 12, instead of learning the ways of the political world, I was fishing in the canals a few hundred miles south and east of you (WPB). I cannot imagine how fascinating it must have been to grow up in a diplomat family. And yes, I agree that Machiavelli should be required reading.

I also think <i>perhaps </i>this IS the only way to make Ozero listen to what was being reported to him on the US Army Operations & war effort requirements and strategy. (which were being ignored?).

To go political in a last ditch effort to get actually get his attention and real <i>action </i>on affairs.

What lesson? Looking at Afghanistan impartially, it would appear that this administartion is prosecuting the conflict more agressively and effectively then the previous administartion. An increase of 30k troops, increased drones strikes, seemingly better cooperation from Pakistsan's government and military.
