“Obama Implodes in Georgia”

One of the arguments many Obama supporters made against Hillary was that she did not support Howard Dean’s 50-state strategy. Obama embraced the 50-state strategy to garner the support of the netroots and other activists. In a mydd diary posted this January, Obama, with his usual humility, was quoted as saying:

I think that we’re shifting the political paradigm here. And if I’m the nominee, I think I can bring a lot of folks along on my coattails. You know, there’s a reason why in 2006, I made the most appearances for members of Congress. I was the most requested surrogate to come in and campaign for people in districts that were swing districts, Republican districts where they wouldn’t have any other Democrat.

A narrative was developed in the blogosphere that Obama, unlike Hillary, would be able to touch the hearts of red state conservatives and turn them into Democrats. Hillary was too polarizing, it was argued, and she would be fighting for Kerry’s states plus 1.

It was mandatory at dailykos to believe that Obama was a map-changer. A diarist from North Dakota named Ab2kgj, in a post which would be funny if it weren’t so painful, suggested that Obama had a real shot at grabbing that state:

I’ll start with ripping a part of McCain’s base right out from under him. I live in North Dakota, and I have a feeling that we will be more of a swing state than people realize. Up here in nowhereland, the reason that Republicans do so well is because of “family values,” and an automatic 15 point bump in the polls. I gotta tell ya though. I see change in the air, because we also can smell phonies a mile away, and John McCain calling us “his friends” doesn’t seem to cut it for the sensible, middle of the roaders up here.

Regardless of what Ab2kgj sees in the air, Obama is not going to win North Dakota, but that fact didn’t stop the Obama campaign from expending millions in red states.

The Obama campaign has always known that they would have a hard time winning both Ohio and Florida, the recent path to the presidency. Campaign manager Plouffe:

said Ohio and Florida start out very competitive — but he stressed that they are not tougher than other swing states and said Obama will play “extremely hard” for both. But he said the strategy is not reliant on one or two states.

Talk of map-changing was utilized by Obama in the primary campaign as a tactic to hide his real weakness with blue-collar voters. Obama and his team have shown disdain for this core group of the Democratic Party, and Obama’s “hope” message fails to offer them a compelling reason to vote for him. Anglachel explains their hostility this way:

In the minds of the liberal elite, the problems and failures of the progressive agenda could be laid at the feet of bigoted whites, the “Archie Bunkers” of the North, and the “Bubbas” of the South. And there lies the strategic fault line of the Democratic Party, the willingness of a significant portion of the party, and I’m willing to wager the majority of the party power brokers, to see the electoral problem as how to minimize the damage of the Bunkers.

Not only has Obama insulted these Democrats who live in the greater Appalachia region with accusations of being bitter and bigoted, some of his supporters inferred that voters’ resistance to Obama was because of racism. But the real problem is that Obama does not appear to offer solutions to their economic problems. Howard Fineman believes that part of Obama’s troubles now stem from the fact that he does not articulate a clear, concise economic message:

It is not enough to be for change – everybody is, or is trying to be. To make it stick, Obama needed, and needs, to put forth an easy-to-grasp grand proposal, one that would encapsulate what his central message. That tagline? That he is dedicated, body and soul, to advancing the economic interests of hard-working, average Americans. He has the makings of such a proposal – his tax cuts for low and middle-income families. But he has yet to package that, or anything else, in an easy-to-grasp, hard-number plan for voters. Instead, he’s got more of a laundry list than an actual rallying cry.

Turning their backs on the rust-belt, Obama’s team, as recently as June, looked to deep-red states:

“You have a lot of ways to get to 270,” Plouffe said. “Our goal is not to be reliant on one state on November 4th.”

Plouffe has been pitching such a new approach to the electoral map in calls and meetings, according to several people who discussed the conversations on the condition of anonymity because they were meant to be private. Plouffe confirmed the descriptions in the interview.

Plouffe and his aides are weighing where to contest, and where chances are too slim to marshal a large effort. A win in Virginia (13 electoral votes) or Georgia (15 votes) could give Obama a shot if he, like Kerry, loses Ohio or Florida.

Although it appears Virginia is still competitive at this point, Georgia is now off the table. A new poll by InsiderAdvantage says that “Obama Implodes in Georgia,” and:

Poll Position survey of likely registered voters in Georgia indicates a steep decline for the Barack Obama campaign and likely explains why the candidate is moving resources out of Georgia and into other states.

Q. If the election were held today, would you vote for:

John McCain: 56%
Barack Obama: 38%
Other: 2%
Undecided: 4%

Obama’s collapse in Georgia has been sudden and dramatic. McCain is in the process of solidifying his base, but the demographics of this collapse do not bode well for Obama, and we should expect smaller but real shifts towards McCain in the more competitive states; that has always been the danger of over-extending your resources into unwinnable states:

InsiderAdvantage’s Matt Towery: “This is a huge slide from what had been, in our prior surveys, a relatively close race. The reason is simple—Obama lost serious ground in virtually every demographic.

“At first glance it would seem that Obamais headed for no better than the low 40 percentile level achieved by John Kerry in 2004. But let me warn observers that in both our national tracking and surveys in other states, the biggest change has been a near parity between the two candidates among the youngest of voters.

“Should that group return to Obama and the African-American vote end up where we expect it to be, the race could be closer in November. But as of now Georgia is no longer a “leans McCain” state. As of this survey, Georgia is in the McCain column.”

Obama’s shrinking map is not a shock to Hillary supporters, but it’s ironic now that Obama will have to turn to Ohio, Florida, and, particularly, Pennsylvania to attempt to squeak out a victory, places where he performed poorly in the primaries and to the voters he and his campaign have continually insulted.

Democrats on Capitol Hill fear Obama fallout
    By Andrew Ward in Washington

    Published: September 11 2008 23:30 | Last updated: September 11 2008 23:30

Democratic jitters about the US presidential race have spread to Capitol Hill, where some members of Congress are worried that Barack Obama’s faltering campaign could hurt their chances of re-election.

Party leaders have been hoping to strengthen Democratic control of the House and Senate in November, but John McCain’s jump in the polls has stoked fears of a Republican resurgence.

A Democratic fundraiser for Congressional candidates said some planned to distance themselves from Mr Obama and not attack Mr McCain.

“If people are voting for McCain it could help Republicans all the way down the ticket, even in a year when the Democrats should be sweeping all before us,” said the fundraiser, a former Hillary Clinton supporter.

“There is a growing sense of doom among Democrats I have spoken to . . . People are going crazy, telling the campaign ‘you’ve got to do something’.”

From the start, the Obama campaign strategy has been to throw people out of the party.

You don’t have to be a political genius to see the problem with that.

Don’t you think the Obots love to drive people away? Why else would they call their fellow Democrats racists, smear the more popular candidate, and generally act like characters out of a gangster movie?

Most of us have been thrown out of “progressive” blogs or forums, simply because we disagree. Many of us have suffered great indignities and even harm from Obama supporters. We’ve all heard stories about how Obama operatives tell Democrats that their careers in the party are over unless they toe the line.

The motto seems to be when in doubt, throw someone out.

And now they can’t figure out why their numbers are dropping. So much for the theory that progressives are smart.

Even though I knew this would occur way back in February, reading it makes me very sad for what should be a blow out year for Dems. The Party bosses should pay with their jobs and reputations come November 5th.

  • oy

Even more impressive than the implosion in Georgia has been the complete derailment in North Carolina, which was supposed to be, along with Virginia, the ultimate New Battleground… It won’t happen.

And I DOUBT Obama will win either Florida, or Ohio, or Virginia. His only chances will be NOT losing Pennsylvania or Michigan, and grabbing Colorado AND either New Mexico or Nevada.

  • C.S.

I never shared Soetoro/Obama’s vision of us “low information” voters succumbing to his Svengali “charm” and sweeping him to victory. I always felt he would have to win this election the Bush way because “fool me once, shame on…shame on you. Fool me…you can’t get fooled again.

We’re no longer naive voters; we are probably the most cynical voters this country has ever had and we may not have won the battle of the delegates but we have every intention of winning this war against democracy that Soetoro/Obama has continued.

  • Tuppence 411

  • Above My Pay Grade

It was clear from the start that the 50 State Strategy (or was it 57 state strategy?)was idiotic. Where did Dean and Barack get this idea, watching the final season of “The West Wing”?

It is ironic that he won the primary largely because of his advisers’ brilliant delegate strategy and firm grasp on the complexities of delegate math, but is now losing the general partly because of a foolish electoral vote strategy.

Hillary, thanks to Mark Penn, lost the primary because she used a general election strategy. Zerobama is, inexplicably using his primary strategy of keeping it close in states he loses and running up the score in states he wins in the GE where it does no good.

This really brings Obama’s judgement into question. He and his supporters have made a big deal of how his running the campaign demonstrates his abiity to run the country.

It now appears that his judgement is only as good as the judgement of the advisers and handlers whispering in his ear.

  • SLW

From a strategic point of view, the 20 ev’s in Ohio shows Obama with a 1% loss, Florida at 5% ( 27 ev’s )and a 3% lead in PA, which isn’t much. There is a reason why he is losing the key demographics that should be added for consideration. The states that are willing to drill for oil have pledged their support to McCain and now with Hurricane Ike and the shut down of the rigs, with the south red states, is a political transgression. Plouffe doesn’t comprehend the history of the states very well and tandem thinking in parallels.

Watching Washington Journal, I saw a new Obama ad concerning John McCain- ” a lot has changed in Washington since 1982, but not John McCain. He’s admitted that he doesn’t use a computer, and doesn’t even know how to send an email…”

Quick Question: WHY SHOULD ANYONE GIVE A SHIT IF McCAIN USES EMAIL OR NOT??? Jesus Christ, maybe he lacks the tech skills necessary to maintain a Facebook page or download the latest music, too! Can’t have someone like THAT near the White House, now, can we?

What the Obama thinks are important skills for a President to have- the ability to organize a neighborhood, get a huge crowd of morons cheering, and send that cool new YouTube video to a friend, just makes me wonder what kind of regressed frat boy gamer the Democrats gave their nomination to this year.

Barack Obama: “Change does not move from top to bottom, but from bottom to top.”

Then please, Barack, drop out of the race and go back to neighborhood organizing. If you really believe that you are the agent of change we have been waiting for, and if you really believe what I just quoted and you aren’t just spewing cliche’s, then please practice what you preach and stop trying to get to the top.

Notice that Obama’s commercials nowadays criticize people who use “change” as a slogan- “change can’t just be words, it has to mean action…” Jesus Christ.

    Words. Just Words.

Hell yes it’s Red in Georgia! (Actually, Red & Black, How ’bout them Dawgs?), but seriously, I heard that back in February about how he was going to change the map and take the Southern states. I thought then that he was out of his tree. There might be a large AA population in GA.,AL.,and Miss. but that is not enough. The night I turned on Fox and saw Jeremiah Wright for the first time, and then I read about letting babies die in utility rooms, and I knew he was dead in the water down South. They don’t go for shit like that down there (I guess they’re still not “progressive” enough), and don’t assume the Bubba’s are all racist either, cuz I’ve lived up north and down south, and race relations seem a damn sight better in GA. than they did in PA. or DE., where there appears to be open hatred towards each other. No, the reason they don’t go for that Liberal stuff Obama peddles, is the southerners see the influence that the influx of east coast transplants have had in their schools, and their communities, and they feel like they are pushy, aggressive and they don’t discipline their kids very well. People down south, Black and White have manners, and they believe that you respect your elders, they still say the pledge of allegiance, and they send more troops to the wars that we engage in than any other area of the country. Obama’s problem is he believes if he shits in a dixie cup, everybody’s gonna line up with a spoon. If being smart enough to see the difference between good and bad values makes somebody White Trash, then I aspire to be biggest piece of White Trash on the face of the Earth!

He sold the Democratic party on a pipe dream by

astroturfing the internet with fake support,

gaming the cuacuses to get way more delegates than he would have earned legally (without bussing in supporters and intimidating and vote stealing)

Paying off superdelegates with 10K-30K above the table and matching under the table donations,

and convincing everyone that the historic nature of his skin color could make up for the lack of credentials.

They bought it hook line and sinker and tossed out the best most qualified candidate in living history for this fraud and his 57 state strategy.

Having a college education, nicer house, fancy clothes etc. does not make someone a better person or necessarily smarter. The one thing we have that they don’t is common sense. I’ll take that over book smarts any day.

Oh no. I kept thinking that if McCain won he would not be able to get more radical policies enacted – like his stupid tax cuts. The two things he would be able to do without Congress is the Supreme Court (unless the Dems get some spine and get away from the stupid idea that they can only object to a president’s choice on issues like corruption, not ideology. They are a coequal branch for crying out loud!) and military actions.

What’s got into Tapper today? This is really funny:

    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/barack-isotoner.html

Barack ‘Isotoner’ Obama to Take Off his Third or Fourth Pair of Gloves and Get Tough
    [snip]

Like any number of Democratic candidates before him — Mike Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry — Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is once again declaring that he is going to take off the gloves and fight back against attacks from the Republican party.
    [snip]
But just so you know — this is by my count the 4th time Obama’s campaign has officially or unofficially made such a declaration that Obama will “take off the gloves” and fight back.

That’s a lot of pairs of gloves.

The Isotoner campaign, one might say.

Another part of today’s claim is that the Democrat is going to aggressively claim the “change” mantle.

As part of this — the staggeringly fresh assertion that Sen. John McCain has voted with President Bush 90% of the time, a factoid Obama has only made seven thousand times before.

Today will also be, per the Obama campaign, the first day of the home stretch. This will be, to my count, at least the second time the Obama campaign has decreed such a new beginning, perhaps even the third.

Jeremiah God Damn Amerikkka Wright -

They cut off her answers because they are in the tank for BO like everyone else, and they wanted to “shape” the interview a way that put her in the worst light. Clearly if they allowed her to get out her “populus” message it would have made her look better, and therefore it ends up on the editors floor.

Gibson was a complete ass. He was tough, but thats not my complaint. My complaint is his whole demeanor and the way he asked the questions, it was like he was a interagator, and that would throw anybody off their game a bit, but I think it was so obvious that it actually will help her score points with the public.

If I was McCain I would never give Gibson another interview through my whole presidency. That kind of behavior from Gibson is unexcusable, ecspecially from someone who has been around as long as he has.

But again overall it was a plus for her I think. Not a game changer, but a overall positive interview in political terms.

I dont think you will ever find the full version on video. I am sure ABC has it under lock and key, unless of course someone leaks it, which I hope is the case …

Thanks for the compliments Liz B! I live in Middle Georgia and it is now and always was going to be red in November. For those peons to think they could change anything down here is laughable. If you look at the voting demographics, the only places that are blue are near the mid-size cities and Atlanta. And that red has been getting deeper every year. I have always been the lone Dem in a room full of Republicans and have worked with some who are very active in the party and they have a strategy here that is working – forget the national scene, focus on our own backyard. They are now the majority here in all the pertinent offices and the legislature. The only reason Obama was doing so well for a period of time was that the polling was so limited, IMO.

  • JP

WOW. Now that should be a sobering slap across the face, but I doubt The One will see when the joke is on him. He never does. Case in point: Clinton saying Obama will win “pretty handily” in November. If that is not a helping push over the cliff I don’t know what is. LOL. Now, lemme say first, I was a Deaniac back in ’04, and mad as hell about how the media took him down, and maintained that if California just had an earlier primary he’d have gotten the nomination . . . so this year has been a super disappointment to me as far as Dean goes . . . for a long time I couldn’t believe he was _really_ in on this fiasco . . . but I do now.

Why not take the drilling moratorium out of the funding resolution and allow a fair-up-or-down vote on domestic drilling?
That’s why we have our own message for Reid and his liberal allies in Congress who are dead set on raising the price of gasoline and keeping us dependent on foreign oil at the behest of left-wing special interests.
Harry Reid needs to be told, in no uncertain terms, that holding the American people hostage is not a “game” and the American people are not going to let him get away with it!
Moreover, our elected leaders (particularly the conservatives in Congress who have bravely championed the call for domestic drilling and lower prices at the pump) need to understand that NO LIBERAL-INSPIRED “COMPROMISE” OR SO-CALLED “COMPREHENSIVE” LEGISLATION WILL BE TOLERATED… PERIOD!
If Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi and liberals in the House and Senate want to play games and shut the government down over this issue… SO BE IT! The American will know who is to blame!

Obamanation is not in a meltdown because Sarah Palin is appealing to Hillary voters. Obama is spiraling out of control because the Obama Reform House of Cards, Smoke and Mirrors has been exposed as a hoax by a real reformer, Gov. Sarah Palin.

“Palin quit her position on the Alaska Gas and Oil Regulatory Commission because another Commission member, chair of Alaska’s Republican Party, corrupted his office. Randy Ruderich, the corruption manager stated above, was soon ousted after Sarah Palin left the Commission.”

“Then she went after corrupt lawmakers, four ending up behind bars. Six others are indicted. The brazen half dozen tagged themselves the “Corrupt Bastard’s Club.” They wore caps with CBC posted on the fronts.”

Absolutely accurate. But going after new registrants who don’t even offer proof that they’ll vote, plus the willingness to trade the loyal, super voters for the hope & change buyers is the kind of thing college kids do. Works in theory, but you only work it once. Get your butt kicked and know better next time. A slight update to the tried-and-true always carries better odds than completely abandoning tactics that keep you close in favor of a reckless roll of the dice.

Is it racist to suggest that this strategy cannibalizes the party members who contribute, volunteer and know their neighbors well enough to get their candidates elected in exchange for deadbeats who weren’t there for the party before and most likely won’t even know how to find the polling location on Election Day? An Obama sign in your yard is cool, but try to get one from your local Democratic Headquarters. In Pennsylvania, because Obama is operating on the cheap, kids are being asked to do the job that professionals are unwilling to do. Party faithful paid by the DNC are toeing the line, but the district office holders who supported Clinton because THEY KNOW THEIR CONSTITUENTS are too busy making up for the time and income they wasted working for the candidate they deemed – in their professional opinion – the most qualified in a Primary that turned out to be crooked. They now attend to their personal priorities. “Your” Obama is YOUR job.

The next election cycle begins in January. How can they go to their neighbors and union members offering their knowledgeable opinion on Judicial candidates and local magistrates if they fail to remain faithful to their word? Presidential elections bring out the crazies. This time they managed to take over the Party. It’s a question of which prevails: beginners luck or establishment experience? As a State Committee person, my endorsement is the most reliable thing I have, and in Pennsylvania, candidates can take that to the bank. Don’t expect me to ‘pivot’ to the chosen one when my neighbors saw what I saw in Denver.

The more Obama and his band of thugs open their mouths, the more people see them for what they are: slimeballs

Hey Obama, I thought you claimed to be a new kind of politician? Obama is nothing but a Chicago bully wrapped in an empty suit.

But as we all know, Obama is use to rolling gutterballs.

    Pathetic!

You really have no clue about what executives do and how they do it, do you? Have you ever heard of secretaries? Chiefs of staff? Information officers? Opposition agents? Those are the people who do the email. Confidential things are still done in person.

  • churl

On the other hand, those of us in Red or Purple states don’t want to be that way and without some funding on the national level we have little chance of becoming Blue. So I like the first level of the strategy– let’s try to be competitive everywhere. That’s the only numerical way to electoral growth.

BUT the strategy was stupidly implemented. A real uniter, like Sen. Clinton, could have made this strategy work and by appealing to the blue collar base expanded the Party.

    O’Precious? Uh. Not so much.

If Obama is serious about ending corruption and business as usual in Washington he will jail himself.

Rather than promote “Change” and reform the corruption that is Chicago “It ain’t beanbag” politics, Obama eagerly climbed aboard the Tax Looters R Us Gravy Train. As a state Senator and chair of the Illinois Senate’s powerful Health and Human Services Committee, Obama pushed legislation that paved the way towards hospital contracts for his developer pal Rezko, who in turn contributed heavily to Obama’s campaign, and enabled Michelle to land her University of Chicago Hospital’s Vice President for External Affairs position.

I agree, besides isn’t one of the reason Bush doesn’t email is because of the electronic trail it leaves?

Like you said minor and finishing details but nothing of any importance is discussed.

This is such a non-issue Obama should be ashamed to bring it up.

Besides didn’t Obama and Scarlett’s emails prove to be a hot potato for him? Clooney had to issue a million dollar challenge about his email relationship with the One.

How does email benefit a President who deals with top secret information?

Truly a non-issue, just more bait for the delusional Obama supporters.

Exactly! I remember when Dean made his “God, gays and guns” comment. He was right on target about the need to reach those voters, and they are reachable with the right appeal.

But, he was 100% wrong with his approach. The Democratic Party needs to make some concessions to working class, social conservatives and moderates. Some actually policy change would be extremely effective, but at the very least they need to show a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T for these Americans.

Instead, Dean, Obama and the rest of the DailyKos wing of the Democratic Party decided they were going to win these voters with an appeal that more or less said:

“We realize that we need your votes, and therfore, we are going to convince you to see yourselves as the ignorant, bigoted, bitter, clingy, troglodytes that we think you are.”

For some odd reason, that hasn’t worked out so well.

Yes Ma’am, I came from Fayette Co. and I was the lone Dem. in my friends, too. The south can always be counted on to vote for “values”, they believe that the main issue in Americas is it’s rapidly decining values. This reminds me of a situation in the hospital called a Code Brown, an emergency which will never get the sympathetic media portrayal of a Code Blue. The Dems have created a code brown and now they get to sit in it until a nurse shows up to fix it. But–maybe she’s taking a break.

  • mimi

    Doesn’t make me sad.

They insulted me, exploited my hapless, desperate community and set racial relations back decades. They also put sexism forth as a viable way to treat women.

These people deserve to be squirming in their seats. They deserve to lose.

Dean, Pelosi, were silent when Hillary was being tarred and feathered in the msm. What? They didn’t think women would notice? Even men noticed?

I’ve been so p.o’d with these people, I wouldn’t care if the Republicans took over the Congress. As much as that would be a horrible thing for me, it would be a great thing long term for the Democrats.

Right now I’m walking around with my Voter Registration form, waiting for Nov so I can cast my vote for McCain/Palin as a Democrat. I intend to be the first person at my polling place. After I cast my vote, I’m walking to the mailbox at the corner and mailing my new form which will change me to ‘Unaffiliated.’

These people insulted me, ignored my legitimate complaints, and behaved like the worst despots to push 0bama down my throat. Democrats IGNORED 18 million voters. It doesn’t get any stupider than that.

And McCain and his campaign were smart enough to exploit this when Palin was chosen. If 0bama had picked Hillary (and I’m glad he didn’t) Palin would still be in Alaska and he’d be ahead in the polls. Although I’m not one of them, a lot of Hillary’s voters would have rallied around this ticket. Who knows, maybe a lot of us would have changed our minds by November.

But 0bama showed himself to be a petty, vindictive, small and ultimately stupid man and chose Biden. The country saw what we’ve known for months, that he is NOT cut out to be POTUS.

A senator, with no executive experience, blows his first important decision whereas, John McCain aced his.

Leon Panetta was quoted as saying “that one of things you have to learn to do in politics is how to get along with people you don’t like.”

Clearly, 0bama despises the Clintons and he was egged on by champion Clinton-haters like Kennedy, Kerry, Dean, Arianna Huffington, Kos and that whole radical leftwing fringe calling themselves Progressives. They were smug enough to think they didn’t need their base.

These are elitists who think they can remake the world in their image. How are they any different from the radical Conservative right wing? And they’ve had their legion of assholes from every walk of life: celebrities, New Age gurus, trumpeting their disgusting message: that America would be a better place if it just wasn’t for ‘them.’

Well, ‘them’ outnumber you guys. ‘Them’ is the face of America. The Clintons tried to explain this to you idiots but you would not listen. You could have OWNED Washington for maybe 8 if not 16 years. But no, you all just had to kill the candidacy of the best candidate. And in doing so, you’ve created a Republican woman star.

    Thanks Democrats.

    That’s why I’m not sad.

If McCain is only down 2 in Washington, I’ve got to think the next poll out of Oregon will show him at least tied or maybe ahead of Barry by a point or two.

If you look at the General Election Results for the past 4 elections, Wahington and Oregon always run parallel to eachother, with Washington being about 2 to 4 points more favorable to the Democrats.

Zerobama is no on defense all over the country in states that would have been fairly safe for a generic Democrat this cycle: WA, OR, PA, MI. He sure could have used some of that cash he squandered in Georgia and Indiana in these battles.

If WI and MI get close again, Barry will be in a made scramble on defense, and be very limited in his ability to play offense in OH, NM, CO, & VA. He might as well abandon FL at this point.

I’m from VA, and yes it is different from NC and TN.
If you think of it like CO, you are probably closer to the mark…pretty moderate-minded voters. Republicans have an advantage but Clinton-type democrats do well too. Mark Warner and Jim Webb being good examples.
There are 3 urban areas to concentrate on–NorVa (northern Va, outside D.C.), Richmond, and down where I am is the Hampton Roads area. Hampton Roads is a heavy military area (Norfolk Naval Base for starters) with both active duty and A LOT of retirees.

Spare me. Our dependence on foreign oil enormously benefits Republicans most, and Democrats secondarily.

And who, pray tell, are Reid and his “liberal allies”? Would that be the Democratic Congress that has done every single damn last thing that the REPUBLICAN president (a universally acknowledged crackpot and moron with a 20% approval rating) wanted?? Those liberals?

Somehow, these fools thought that the same strategy that put Deval Patrick in the MA statehouse would work for the whole country. A Republican–Mitt–had become govenor in MA, yes–by lying to everyone just like he always does. He convinced liberals, even greens, that he was on their side and then betrayed them. So, I guess, the Bobo camp thought Repubs could be charmed into voting for a man closer to Stalin than Reagan(!) It sounds to me like their plans bear more resemblance to winning a video game than the Presidency. And, seeing how immature Bobo is, that might be. The whole thing is like a mass hallicination: a radical black candidate with a mean-mouthed wife paints two civil-rights icons as racists, has race-baiting friends and associates, gives excuses for terrorists, is dubbed the most pro-abortion pol in the nation–but he’s gonna win GOP votes!! They knew they’d lose the Archie Bunker and Bubba votes, but–hey!–just create new, pro-BO voters! George McGovern was mild compared to Obama, and the former got DC and MA. But Bobo is counting on Indiana!

  • Linda

Obama’s supporters are varied, Corporatists, Extreme Left, young and naive Dems, mainly those who were promoting his race as the defining reason and African Americans. They were hoping the base would follow blindly. But the AA’s and Corporatists and Symbol voters knew what he was and that was that he was and African American that acted like a Corporatist Republican and thought he was the perfect opportunity to slide in a Corporate Puppet (Manchurian Candidate) because he looked like folks believed to be Democratic. They pushed him to run NOW, because “people would want Anybody But Republican” and his record would be too obvious as a Republican Light if he waited.

The Democrats shouldn’t have worked so hard to push out Rudy Giuliani early, thinking that the Maverick was finished and they would get the chance to run against Mitt Romney.

Obama’s problem is that there is too much time for reality not to shine through. He may have the media covering for him (GE, Media, Hollywood, Energy and Military), because he is their perfect puppet, but the rest is still coming out because he has to campaign.

We all looked at Obama the man, not the symbol, so we’re not surprised. We didn’t drink the koolaid and just click our heal ans say “just believe”. Those already got reality on Backtrack Barry’s latest flips when they pleaded to stop flipping and go back to his original position and he said NO, maybe you’ll agree with me on 90 percent of my positions. Fine example of holding his feet to the fire, NOT. He’s telling them he will do what HE WANTS, not the voters-already. (yes, we already knew that), but now the extremists who really should have shared what they were consuming, thought he was some mystical person, the chosen one that his promise to cut Military was the example. “Finally someone willing to get rid of the Oreos True Majority have been feeding on, cut the Military. And now, Backtrack Barry is talking of INCREASING our MILITARY. Talk about a slap in the fase to those naive persons.

This campaign was too long to have too much time for information to come out and that’s what happens when someone is a fraud and they take every side of a position. The only question is will enough informaiton leak out through the cracks for the people to see what a dangerous person he would be to have the position as President of The United States.

Like a Chicago journalist wrote to me over a year ago says it best, ”
Yes, Obama is a cynic and a liar. Having spent about an hour alone with the man, I also think he’s very shallow, a rank hustler.”

    http://www.mydd.com/story/2008/9/12/6434/07836#commenttop

This doesn’t happen often, but I agree with the majority of them 100%.

The “Still” ad starts out kind of funny, but pulls back from the humor and comes off a bit petty and mean, and will probably offend many older voters.

They should have gone over the top with the humor. Instead of harping on McCain’s lack of computer skills, they should have labeled him as “stuck in the 80′s”. It’s not really true, but they might have made it stick a little.

Also, how could they NOT use “Dancing Queen” by Abba as the background music? McCain has said this is his favorite song. Instead they used some light modern jazz type music, that seemed more late 50′s early 60′s.

In the “Real Change” ad, Barry looks tired and cranky, not charismatic or positive, and doesn’t bring anything new to the table. In fact, it makes his once electrifying “change” message look old and stale.

Unless there is a game changer between now and November the Obama campaign is doomed to failure in Pa. The tragedy here is good Democratic congress people like Joe Sestak who face a very powerful republican machine will most likely be voted out of congress, he is having trouble raising money because of Obama’s opting out of public financing. On June 3rd, electoral-vote.com published their last Clinton vs. McCain map (http://www.electoral-vote.com/evp2008/Clinton/Maps/Jun03.html)
She was ahead 327 to 194, with Michigan undecided.
Back then, Obama was at 276 to 238 with Indiana and Virginia undecided.

The current map has Obama at 268 to 270 behind, no ties.

Clinton’s gains would have been, based on that last matchup: Ohio, Kentucky, Missouri, West Virginia, Nevada, New Mexico, Florida, North Carolina and, of course, Arkansas. She would have afforded to lose the tied Michigan, Florida plus even Ohio and would still have won the election with 280 EC votes, easily.

Obama would have picked up Colorado, New Mexico, Ohio (barely) and Iowa. He could not have afforded to lose even Iowa.

Currently, Obama picks up Colorado and Iowa.
4 years ago, the map looked similar. Nevada and Florida were tied, Kerry was way ahead in New Mexico and lead 273 to 233. Kerry lost in the end.

Obama’s argument that he would change the political landscape is a fairytale.

    Thanks Larry,

We need every state the republicans have gotten in the past…

I used to ask my husband….if we have more registered dems in this state why does it always go to the republicans…I posted a link here yesterday to a article form a local paper saying ….The percentages of state voters who identify themselves as Republicans or independents have increased since the 2006 general election, while Democrats have seen their overall share of registered voters fall to a historic low….Democrats can no longer claim a majority of voters in the state, as their numbers dipped below 50 percent for the first time in state history.…yes Obama is causing change all over the US., just not the kind he had in mind….to be fair..I know the dems have been registering a lot of new dems all over the US., Hillary was a big boost in the numbers during the primary, a lot of those new dem voters were independents but went dem only to vote in the primary, the question is who will they vote for in November. The number of people who identify themselves as democrats is dropping as the election gets closer…this election is making history in more ways then people realize….I believe it is going to be very close in some states.

I have only checked the numbers in my state but I do find it a bit funny that for the first time in the history of the state the republicans are on top…

Obama may be still ahead in Washington, but look at the favorable ratings in Washington and most other states of the union. McCain 60 Obama 58.

You can see that in lots of states.
Yes, Obama will definitely change the political map by coloring blue states red…

I’ve been telling all the Democratic candidates in my state whom I really support that I don’t like it when they link themselves to Obama. When I wrote Mrs. Fowler to complain about her comments, the major point I made was that I AM a Democrat who can’t vote for Obama but am planning to vote Democrat down ticket and that I am worried that her comments were hurting down ticket Democrats.

Maybe we can get all the down ticket dems to distance themselves completely from O–serve him right for buying superdelegates. Those superdelegate who were bought, however, should be humiliated.

I can’t speak for TN and NC, but VA has had pretty clean elections. I worked on them for 7+ years in NoVA and it was all very professional. I definitely agree with cdo that VA is going to go with McCain. Recall that former Republican Webb just won a Senate seat there. Between McCain’s military record and Palin’s hockey mom and family values, it is a lock on the state.

I think you are getting off track with the 50 state vote strategy. The strategy is a good long term strategy but must be in place at the local levels first before it came be implemented. The strategy has been in place less than 4 years and has not yet been fully implemented. The problem was Obama thought he was some kind of transformational candidate who could appeal to all people irregardless of their party (post partisan), that has nothing to do with a 50 state strategy which is party centric.
What the failure has shown is how big a narcissus Obama is and that he is just another wishy washy democratic candidate in the mold of Kerry, Dukatis, and McGovern.

  • Leisa

My fourteen year old son saw that and thought it was cool, but not presidential. He said doesn’t want the president to be that immature and foolish.

  • Above My Pay Grade

Equal Pay Act is off the table for the Obama campaign now. The blowback from the McCain attack ad, using these stats, would be devastating.

Of course, there is a good chance McCain’s people will put out an ad about this, even if Barry never brings up Equal Pay again.

  • WMCB

Yeah, Obama knows how to use email. He emails everything in. He emailed the flight 93 mourners in PA yesterday, rather than showing up to grieve with them in person as McCain did.

He emailed the hurricane victims in LA, instead of showing up to be supportive in the face of the coming storm, as McCain did.

Me, I would prefer a hands-on president who does not think the USA and the world is some kind of virtual reality game.

There are enough cheeto-eaters huddled in their basements glued to computer screens online, I really don’t want one in the oval office.

The world is REAL, not virtual.

Camp Obama decides to officially claim the Change mantle, while insisting “No, I’m the candidate of change” -NO LIE(I laughed lastnight watching the Hurricane-a greaty movie and I LOVE Denzel, but in the movie there are clips of Ali saying “I feel Hope for Change”…and then the Hurricane saying, he had to “transcend”)

“Obama in touch with our roots: Changes Like The Wind”

seriously, this coming from ABC’s Jake Tapper (what a shocker)

    The new Campaign slogan

    “The Isototoner Campaign”

“Barack ‘Isotoner’ Obama to Take Off his Third or Fourth Pair of Gloves and Get Tough

    September 12, 2008 7:11 AM

Like any number of Democratic candidates before him — Mike Dukakis, Al Gore, John Kerry — Sen. Barack Obama, D-Illinois, is once again declaring that he is going to take off the gloves and fight back against attacks from the Republican party.

This is what you’re going to hear from his campaign today, anyway, which is unveiling two new TV ads, including this attack ad against Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.

Obama campaign manager David Plouffe lays this all out in a memo called “Heading into the Final Stretch” today saying that “Obama said earlier this week ‘enough is enough.’ This election is too important and the challenges too big to spend the next 54 days talking about trivial non-issues. Today is the first day of the rest of the campaign..”

Continues Plouffe, “We will respond with speed and ferocity to John McCain’s attacks and we will take the fight to him, but we will do it on the big issues that matter to the American people. We will not allow John McCain and his band of Karl Rove disciples to make this big election about small things.”

The Philadelphia machine has voter fraud down to a science. I have friends in the city who were actually TOLD they couldn’t vote Republican at a polling place…and they had a strong feeling after they left that their votes were thrown out.

There was a notorious incident where union goons beat down Republican activists, in front of TV cameras. (my BF is union, however the Philly guys have kept the city in the dark ages for a long time.)

My point is the Obots won’t have to strongarm the Philly voters. I don’t know if the Republican party in Philadelphia is going to be vigilant on this, I can find out. However I don’t think the Obotic tactics will work in the rest of the state. The Obama campaign flooded us to the point of harassment with all his stupid primary ads and Hillary still took PA by 9 points.

  • Docelder

Obama’s latest ad is an attack on McCain’s age. He tries to position it as “out of date” but what he is really saying to his groupies… McCain is an old guy. As if that were something “bad”. As if life experience was a handicap of some sort. The ad shows somebody on a portable phone that must weigh 5 pounds… and it says McCain “doesn’t even know how to send an email”. Is it even possible that McCain does not have a senate email address? I highly doubt that. Not that he has the personal time to read all the spam from it… I think McCain ought to start carrying a blackberry around. But, on a more real and somber note… In the event of any full scale modern conflict… if any of us thinks that the worldwide Internet will be up for the start of it… that is a folly. Worldwide public Internet and email would be the first thing to be taken out.

We should ask him what he meant by cool.

Here They Come — A Plethora of 527 Ads
    September 12th, 2008 2:36 am

Wonder no more when the heavy fighting would commence. The battle is on and just look at the number of ads and the number of topics broached. These eight ads are from Our Country Deserves Better PAC, a 527 group, which is a type of American tax-exempt organization named after a section of the United States tax code, 26 U.S.C. § 527, that espouses political causes. Their cause just happens to be the destruction of Senator Obama’s campaign. For more background information on this PAC, please visit SourceWatch.

Patriotism Problems — Obama is No Ronald Reagan

Not Our Values — Obama Mocks Christian Values

Semper Fidelis — Obama on the Surge

    Illegal Immigration

    Hillary on Obama

Wrong Values — Obama’s Ties to Palestinians & Reverend Wright

Higher Taxes — Obama ‘The Most Liberal’ Senator

Obama is not the Senate’s most liberal Senator. That honour goes to Senator Sheldon Whitehouse of Rhode Island. But this is a game of perception, not reality.

    Liberal Policies

Obama once claimed that Senator Clinton was throwing the kitchen sink at him. Here are whole kitchens. Knives sold separately. Offer not valid where void. On to 2012.

Can anyone be surprised? This year the Democratic party has presented itself as the party of hate (dailykos), misogynism (treatment of Hillary & Palin), racism (Jeremiah Wright), terrorism (Bill Ayres), fascism (Obama), anti free speech (liberal blogs). Sure isn’t the Democratic party that *I* knew. Let them reap what they have sown.

  • bemused

“Sexist” comments mean that the comment states or implies that personal merit or social standing or power is justified by gender. Such as, “Women should stay home and have babies.” The implication is that women should have a certain social position and no other, solely because they are women.

However, I don’t see why this comment is sexist. It implies she needs a medicosmetic proceedure to mask her emotions. As anyone might express the emotions similarily (and facial expressions have very universal meanings)or want to mask them, there is no gender bias.

When I found out what it all meant, it sure frosted me, but the problem is that the WHOLE meaning is only immediately clear to a relatively small group. I wouldn’t have known without blogs. Sure, we all know about shrugging shoulders or brushing off after getting knocked down. But that masks and misdirects the Jay-Z message. It is such a middle-school wise guy gesture, too bad more people don’t understand or they could see his arrested development.

Oh, and BTW jangles, I didn’t see anything sexist about women in Jeremiah’s post. Were you referring to the Botox that Pelosi needed to take her friend Michelle to get? See, Oprah tried to steer her towards her ridiculously expensive eyebrow waxer, but they realized that the permanent angry b**ch expression was caused from the perpetual scowl, and thus, the need for the botox. Michelle has a lot to be angry about, you see she’s been oppressed by “the man” her entire life, and she apparently has also been stuck living in a country she doesn’t respect or feel proud of, so an intervention medically was requested by the Magazine Editors who were spending too much time airbrushing her numerous “Jackie O” photo sessions. It’s not sexist, men get botox, too. Barack goes with her, in fact, she gets the syringe and he gets his weekly Zoom treatment (don’t tell anyone I told you this, but HE SMOKES)

But why hasn’t Mr. Change ever talked about investigating, prosecuting and fixing this congress-enabled crime against the taxpayer? Or am I just supposed to overlook the whole housing looting opportunity because it is considered minority and Democratic turf?

Ah The Hell with it. Since we have had so much fun on this thread here is two more JGDAW posts that are pretty good that got lost in the debate on sarahs speech. enjoy:

    From Obamapedia.com

What Does a Community Organizer Do:

A community organizer organizes things in the community.

Think of it as a organizer that lives in a community organizing things in the the community for the community that need organizing especially things that were not organized before..

You wont find community organizers in communities that are highly organized, because they don’t need an organizer to organize stuff in their community due to their existing level of organization.

Often times a community will spontaneously self organize and the community organizers they may have had suddenly are organized into a productive force and are found meaningful employment doing something that actually contributes to the community in ways that go beyond just organizing.

Other times a community discovers that they lack a compelling reason to have an organizer organizing so they organize an organization of organizers in the community responsible for organizing the organizers who don’t have anything to organize.

and the snippet from the Book that wasn’t published:

From The 1st unpublished autobiography of Barack Obama entitled

“Dreams of my Future: I am the One you have been waiting for!“

I considered Joining the Military as well when i graduated highschool…however there were no wars going on, which i was actually thankful for because no way in hell would i want to get my ass shot at, and so i decided after i lit up another doobie and inhaled deeply, and then snorted a line of coke…FUCK IT!! I’ll go to Harvard on an affirmative action bus paid for by a middle eastern money man, get appointed President of the Harvard Law Review by a dirty trick since the two candidates who were ahead of me were fighting and the one that couldn’t win decided to throw all his votes to me to screw his opponent, and then instead of writing anything of substance i will write my autobiography 2 times and make a career out of associating with all kinds of undesirables, racists, home grown terrorists and american haters and middle eastern money launderers while engaging in a full time vocation of running for office after office while gaming the system and booting my opponents off the ballot until i can run for president!!

  • csuzeq

I’m taking 11/4 and 11/5 off from work. 11/4 to be an election judge or video the vote and the 5th because I’m afraid of the rioting Obots. Seriously!

  • John House

The problem is, why target a demographic you already have, and insult another (there are many people in America who still don’t use a computer or send email…like my mother and my cousins…) What a maroon this guy is.

  • LookingForwardTo2012

    Oh, that is terrible.

  • Heather

Can’t tell you how many times I was excoriated at daily kos for sharing the “bubba” wisdom about Democrats. It takes a bubba to counteract the Dem reputation for being too lefty.

So what do they do this year? They picky a super-lefty! “Flip the narrative” I think was the arrogant term Obama kept using. Reminds me of Enron … where the “smartest guys in the room” built a house of cards that fooled everyone.

I nominate the Democratic Party for this year’s Darwin award.

  • Ani

Mimi, I agree. That is exactly what happened. Instead of him going back to the drawing board and ‘hitting the books’ and learning something new so he might do better next time, he insulted everyone else involved with the process — Hillary, first and foremost, just because she happened to show up prepared. Horrors!!

Unfortunately, he couldn’t go ‘back to the books’ about Ayers — he didn’t have an appropriate lie prepared. But after the backlash of his supporters, Gibson, Mr. Big Anchor, was cowed, as was Stephanopoulos, and no one brought up this legitimate question again.

Then the Hillary bashing continued without interruption.

  • LookingForwardTo2012

That move, and the finger move are 2 things that I just cannot get over. IMHO, a person who is Presidential should live on a higher plane than that…should never have used such crude communication…especially directed toward an honorable political opponent. It would appear that he desires to President of approx.1/4 of the voting United States population, the people who voted for him in the Primaries. Why else would he insult the sensibilities of others?

  • fluffy bunny

One of Obama’s first “attack” ads ran in GA. It was supposed to tie McCain to Ralph Reed, lobbyist former founder of the Christian Coalition. The ad said that McCain went easy on Reed during the Abramoff hearings.

    1. McCain didn’t go easy on Reed, and was brutal toward Abramoff and his close cronies in those hearings, so the ad was a lie.
    2. Reed, for all his faults, is a resident of Georgia and is very popular there.

The ad was a miserable failure…..as such, I’d like to recommend to the Obama campaign some future ads. I’ve gotta run, and can only think of a couple right off the top of my head. Perhaps other NQ readers can think of some others?

    1. An ad in Kansas tying McCain to Bob Dole, that notorious crook who is hated throughout KS.
    2. An ad in NY tying McCain to Rudy Giuliani. You know, mention that Rudy lived with a gay couple friend for a while after his last marriage dissolved into acrimony. We all know how New Yorkers hate gays and will be disgusted to learn that McCain is friends with a guy who befriends homosexuals.
    3. And ad in TN tying McCain to notorious lobbyist Fred Thompson.

  • Heather

Yeah! Give us a president who thinks being the leader of the free world is just a computer game. I can see him now, the E*Trade Baby in the Oval office.

now people who of the old guard joining them at Kerry’s invitation

and the biggy White Women said SHOVE IT Dems…. at Obama Pelosi’s invitation

…………………….none of this was necessary, if Pelosi’s DNC would have allowed the Dem Primary voters to choose the nominee, instead of the DNC rigging the race

yep it would have ended up a clinton win.

8 years of hillary would have given plenty of time to barry to try to get the stink off himself from chcago and actually try to establish a record worthy of his glorious autobiohagiographies.

Then maybe he might have been able to run. But he as always is never one to do the work when there is a higher office to run for.

He is the ulimate corporate suck up and ladder climber. He is the kind of guy most hard working americans in corporate life absolutely despise.

He comes in does squat takes credit makes sure he is at the right place at the right time and rides on other peoples shoulders to elevate himself.

Eventually the floor falls out and he is on the verge of being exposed but then he somehow kisses the right ass and moves up or shifts to another company.

Unfortunatly for Barry…this is the last stop on the gravy train. It don’t get no better than president of the US and it a lot tougher to con your way into this job than it is to con yourself into the senate.

Hillary told them, he CAN’T WIN. She knew what they refused to acknowledge, so eager were they to make some sort of bullshit point with a sorely flawed and woefully inexperienced candidate. This guy is overanxious, hubris-laden, and not too terribly smart. He’s also got integrity issues.

Skin tone is not a substitute for skills. Obama doesn’t have the skills yet. If he’d cut a deal to run as Clinton’s VP, he might have spent eight years learning, and perhaps kicking over the traces of his corrupt Chicago past, and this whole mess would be on cruise control now–the Dems would be making their hotel reservations and fighting over tickets to the “best” inaugural balls instead of whining, shitting bricks, sending out OBOT bloggers to try to depress motivation and disrupt discussion, and spinning like tops.

They didn’t listen. And now, gee whiz, those chickens are coming home to roost….for four more years.

At the Demcoratic convention in Grand Forks where Obama spoke and then two hours later Hillary spoke – that was the turning point for many women and men to become PUMA’s. Byron Dorgan, Pomeroy and Conrad stood up on stage drooling and making fools of themselves over Obama for 15 minutes. It was shameful. When Hillary came on Retired Govenor Sinner introduced Hillary and the three goons just sat up there. It was so biased at that point I knew I would not ever vote for one of them again. Now that other people have woke up and found more out about Obama – North Dakota will never never go Democratic. There are so many of us now crossing over to the Republicans. We have the corrupt DNC to thank plus our own state Senators, etc!!! Might as well throw the talk show host Ed Schulz in there too.

The chickens did come home to roost.

I know you are probably one of those foaming at the mouth neo-cons that think that islamic extremists attacked us because they “hate freedom”.

This is an utterly and completely warped world view. 9/11 was blow back for the decades of interferance in the middle east, support for their greatest enemies (real or percieved), supporting the brutal dictatorial regimes in the region, and the economic and political exploitation of an entire generation of people.

It is like having a dog; you starve the dog, you beat the dog, you taunt him… and then you are utterly surpised when one day he bites the sh*t out of you. It must be because he hates the freedom you have? No, he just hates you.

People need to stop thinking there is a single layer of causality in all of these issues.

Wright was correct when he said the US invited 9/11, because we did. Innocent people did not deserve to die, but the US government has to start thinking about the long term impact of its policies.

  • some guy MN

Um, if Mr. White has been following the polls until Palin (www.electoral-vote.com is good), he would know that states like NM, CO, MT, ND, IN and VA were “toss-up” or “lean Obama.”

But he’s too busy making an emotionally-based argument against Obama to know that. And he talks about “insulting Appalachian voters”? What about laughing at the ND blogger for suggesting that Obama had a shot? Which he did, until recently?

And here’s something for all you “Hillary would have done better” fantasizers. Clinton would have run the same style of campaign as Kerry and Gore. Don’t bother with any red states (outside of Appalachia). Cross your fingers and hope that you win FL or OH. And she’s repellent to many Republicans who are otherwise disenchanted with Bush, so she would just focus on ramping up the die-hard Democratic vote. Kerry and Gore all over again.

Yes, she could have energized women and Hispanics to get past the finish line. But don’t pretend that she wouldn’t do it in a photo finish.

Just look at how she ran in the primaries. Her staff dismissed every small caucus state and focused on the big ones. How’d that work out?

Personally there are very few democrats I will be voting for because of how they allowed Senator Clinton to be treated. The fraud they themselves perpetrated on the nation during the primaries and the nomination fraud party. They have to be held accountable. I don’t mind if republicans win more in congress and the senate. There are too many democratic superdelegates responsible for what happened and I will never forget it. Senator McCain is honorable and so is Gov. Palin. They will not allow any republicans in the congress or the senate any leeway if they try anything. I think possibly the republicans have learned a valuable lesson these past 8 years. Many of the older republicans are no longer in congress or the senate. I hope Pelosi et al are gone for good this year. I want my country to be protected. I want my vote to count. I want fair elections. I want the media to go down in flames and that includes O’Reilly who is just as soft on Obama as the liberal media is. He had an opportunity to get to the truth and slam Obama on his lies and corruption and his associates but he didn’t. He let him slide. We are not electing a pop star. Instead we need someone with stature and love of our country to restore this country to her greatness in the world. As a lifelong democrat voting straight democrat for 41 years I am happy to support Senator McCain and Gov. Palin. The democratic party has proved to all the world that they are corrupt and become nothing more than a power hungry organization.

This is an article from a Foreign reporter: This is exactly why Obama won’t win

sorry I don’t know how to post links on here

    September 12, 2008

Barack Obama the speechmaker is being rumbled

There is a yawning gulf between what the Democratic candidate says and how he has acted. That’s why the race is so close
    By Gerard Baker
It’s funny how the harder you look at something, the harder it can be to understand it. I can’t recall a US presidential election that has attracted more attention. But neither can there have been a time when the world has watched what goes on in America with the nonplussed, horrified incomprehension it has now.

Travelling in Britain this week, I’ve been asked repeatedly by close followers of US politics if it can really be true that Barack Obama might not win. Thoughtful people cannot get their head around the idea that Mr Obama, exciting new pilot of change, supported by Joseph Biden, experienced navigator of the swamplands of Washington politics, could possibly be defeated.

They look upon John McCain and Sarah Palin and see something out of hag-ridden history: the wizened old warrior, obsessed with finding enemies in every corner of the globe, marching in lockstep with the crackpot, mooseburger-chomping mother from the wilds of Alaska, rifle in one hand, Bible in the other, smiting caribou and conventional science as she goes.

Two patronising explanations are adduced to explain why Americans are going wrong. The first is racism. I’ve dealt with this before and it has acquired no more merit. White supremacists haven’t been big on Democratic candidates, whatever their colour, for a long time, and Mr Obama’s race is as likely to generate enthusiasm among blacks and young voters as it is hostility among racists.

    Background
    Middle-of-the-road Obama run over
    Barack Obama’s Palin problem
US election race descends into taunts
Obama rattled as rivals steal limelight
In a similarly condescending account, those foolish saps are being conned into voting for Mr McCain because they like his running-mate. Her hockey-mom charm and storybook career appeals to their worst instincts. The race is boiling down to a beauty contest in which a former beauty queen is stealing the show. Believe this if it helps you come to terms with the possibility of a Democratic defeat. But there really are better explanations.

One is a simple political-cultural one. This election is a struggle between the followers of American exceptionalism and the supporters of global universalism. Democrats are more eager than ever to align the US with the rest of the Western world, especially Europe. This is true not just in terms of a commitment to multilateral diplomacy that would restore the United Nations to its rightful place as arbiter of international justice. It is also reflected in the type of place they’d like America to be – a country with higher taxes, more business regulation, a much larger welfare safety net and universal health insurance. The Republicans, who still believe America should follow the beat of its own drum, are pretty much against all of that.

You can argue the merits of each case. But let me try to explain to my fellow non-Americans why Mr Obama’s problems go well beyond that. Even if you think that Americans should want to turn their country into a European-style system, there is a perfectly good reason that you might have grave doubts about Mr Obama.

The essential problem coming to light is a profound disconnect between the Barack Obama of the candidate’s speeches, and the Barack Obama who has actually been in politics for the past decade or so.

Speechmaker Obama has built his campaign on the promise of reform, the need to change the culture of American political life, to take on the special interests that undermine government’s effectiveness and erode trust in the system itself,

Politician Obama rose through a Chicago machine that is notoriously the most corrupt in the country. As David Freddoso writes in a brilliantly cogent and measured book, The Case Against Barack Obama, the angel of deliverance from the old politics functioned like an old-time Democratic pol in Illinois. He refused repeatedly to side with those lonely voices that sought to challenge the old corrupt ways of the ruling party.

Speechmaker Obama talks about an era of bipartisanship, He speaks powerfully about the destructive politics of red and blue states.

Politician Obama has toed his party’s line more reliably than almost any other Democrat in US politics. He has a near-perfect record of voting with his side. He has the most solidly left-wing voting history in the Senate. His one act of bipartisanship, a transparency bill co-sponsored with a Republican senator, was backed by everybody on both sides of the aisle. He has never challenged his party’s line on any issue of substance.

Speechmaker Obama talks a lot about finding ways to move beyond the bloody battlegrounds of the “culture wars” in America; the urgent need to establish consensus on the emotive issue of abortion.

Politician Obama’s support for abortion rights is the most extreme of any Democratic senator. In the Illinois legislature he refused to join Democrats and Republicans in supporting a Bill that would require doctors to provide medical care for babies who survived abortions. No one in the Senate – not the arch feminist Hillary Clinton nor the superliberal Edward Kennedy – opposed this same humane measure.

Here’s the real problem with Mr Obama: the jarring gap between his promises of change and his status quo performance. There are just too many contradictions between the eloquent poetry of the man’s stirring rhetoric and the dull, familiar prose of his political record.

It’s been remarked that the biggest difference between Americans and Europeans is religion: ignorant Americans cling to faith; enlightened Europeans long ago embraced the liberating power of reason. Yet here’s an odd thing about this election. Europeans are asking Americans to take a leap of faith, to break the chains of empiricism and embrace the possibility of the imagination.

The fact is that a vote for Mr Obama demands uncritical subservience to the irrational, anti-empirical proposition that the past holds no clues about the future, that promise is wholly detached from experience. The second-greatest story ever told, perhaps.

Hillary would’ve run like Bill Clinton, fool. And she would’ve won. And BTW she didn’t lose the caucuses because her staff “dismissed” them. She lost the caucuses because Obama cheated.

  • Liz B

    Dave,

Sorry hon, but in two weeks time we have all (Thanks to the Media) learned everything we will ever need to know about Sarah Palin.
Thanks to the same Media, we couldn’t get a straight story on Obama for MONTHS!
What you obviously don’t get is that unlike Obama, Palin courageously let’s it all hang out. She, and Mccain are the real deal, and yes, we all know what she stands for, but from what I gather about this site, and America in general, most people RESPECT a person who looks them in the eye and tells them the truth, regardless of who the audience is, the message doesn’t change. Substance wins over style any day.

  • AX10

    I know.
I was hoping to get some more Democrats
in congress. The Dems could actually lose 5-10 seats in the House instead of gaining 10-20., bringing
their totals down to a slim majority that could
be as small as 221 seats.

  • Rob in Chicago

I was born and grew up in Michigan as well (suburbs of Detroit), and came to Chicago for law school (and a career) in 1973. Barky will be a clear winner in Detroit, Ann Arbor (University of Michigan), and (probably) Southfield, Michigan, but Michigan is a big state, with lots of rural areas, and very solidly Republican areas just outside of East Lansing (Michigan State). Then there is the upper penninsula as well. I think that the only way Obama wins Michigan is if the turn out in Detroit and Ann Arbor greatly exceeds previous election turn outs. Michigan could be very close.

  • Diana

That’s pretty sad when 2 months before the GE downticket Democrats are distancing themselves from Obama. Planning to make sure they don’t say anything bad about McCain or Palin. They know. The MSM may not want to, be interested in vetting him, their constituents will.

  • AX10

They call it Pensyltucky in this part of the woods .. where we remain bitter and clinging to our guns and religion.

  • Liz B

Wow! I enjoyed reading the other side of the ponds’ take on this, but it is such a disingenuous argument, if Europeans are so far ahead of us, and so evolved that they reject religion and have no prejudices to deal with…why are there no Blacks in power in England? or any other Northern European country?
So, I can take away from this that since 22 foreign countries prefer Obama, and they all agree McCain and Palin are repugnant, if we elect said McCain/Palin ticket we can expect a boycott? Not so many immigrants hustling over to join us, and take our jobs, and insult our way of doing things?
Well hell, then that’s just another reason to vote for ‘em!
Now if we can convince the Canadians and the Mexicans of how awful living here under a McCain Presidency would be, there goes our immigration problem altogether!

  • http://budwhite.wordpress.com/ Bud White

Her staff dismissed every small caucus state and focused on the big ones. How’d that work out?

Hillary won Ohio, Pennsylvania, California, Rhode Island, West Virginia, Kentucky, and Arkansas, amongst many others. Let’s not pretend that Obama was the popular choice for Democrats. The 50-state fantasy was cooked up for the masses to delude them into thinking BHO could waltz into the White House. Obama has never connected, with the exception of African Americans and Whole Foods Nation, with the Democratic Party’s base. Indeed, he did insult these voters by calling them bitter and implying they’re bigots for being concerned about illegal immigration, and not voting for him because the color of his skin. Perhaps, just maybe, these working-class Democrats find value in religion, enjoy hunting, and are concerned about the possibility of lower wages as the result of illegal immigration. None of this makes them bigoted, and Obama’s insistence that they are is now causing him real troubles. Hillary supporters have always started with the premise that you take Kerry’s states and build from there. She would likely win Ohio and Arkansas, and would be ahead of where BHO is now. Not because Americans are bigoted, but because they want someone who offers them concrete economic help. Hillary respects their culture and values, and doesn’t ridicule their concerns. She offered real solutions to healthcare and the economy, a tough but compassionate approach to illegal immigration, and an unwavering patriotism. Obama comes across, I believe, as elitist and out-of-touch, a doubter of America’s greatness. His campaign seems to be about what we can do for Obama, not what Obama can do for us.

The leap of faith the Europeans want us to take is to entrust our personal livelihoods into the hands of unelected elites and social theorists who think the common man or woman is too stupid or too involved with the rigors of mere survival to make the “right” decisions to provide for themselves and seek their own destiny.

I have been to Europe extensively for both pleasure and business, and find that the common man and woman does not share the attitudes of their elites, but are nonetheless powerless to stop them. This is the type of society Obama envisions as utopian.

  • red_sleeves

We all heard about Mitt Romney being a Mormon …but so is Harry Reid. Which serves to show that Mormons, like Catholics, do not always think alike.

In fact, the existence of Reid makes Romney’s Mormonism moot, doesn’t it? So why was it consistently brought up?

  • AX10

    Obama will win Philadelphia,
Delaware County, and Alleghany County(though more conservative, it is a Democratic stronghold)
Montgomery is a toss-up(Clinton 92/96, Gore/Kerry won). Bucks as well as Chester will go to McCain, even though
    Gore and Kerry carried them.

I would totally run ads featuring that clip of him brushing off his shoulders with the question, “is this the kind of person we want representing the United States to the rest of the world?” The ad might have to explain what the gestures mean, and especially show the part where he was brushing “excrement” off his shoe. That moment was so horrible to me. Just because Hillary bested him in the debate! That kind of reaction was just vile and adolescent (no disrespect to upstanding adolescents).

  • mcpalin hill

jeremiah — you put lipstick on a chauvanistic pig and he’s still a chauvanist pigs. He appears to be getting tired of the of attacking Palin and is now going after older Americans and their lack of computers. Obama’s strategy appears to be how to lose an election one constituancy at a time.

Roseeriter—you saw that, too! The difference in body language and facial expressions between McCain and BHO was very revealing. BHO just threw his rose and McCain very reverentially bent his knees (probably with some pain because of his POW torture) and placed the rose at the pool.

I don’t think BHO and Meechelle like America either—why would BHO create a detailed economic policy to get us out of this morass when he doesn’t genuinely care if our country sinks or swims.

  • Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose?

why are there no Blacks in power in England? or any other Northern European country?

A poll was done around the time of Oblah’s European extravaganza. Europeans were all in favor of Obama as US president. When they were asked if they wanted a person of color as their own leader, the answer across the board was NO.

    International NIMBYism.

  • Diana

Those guys are riot. I like the one where they were talking about Palin. Jackie starts drooling when he sees her with a gun, then Dunlap tells Jackie. “You know in order to vote for Palin you also have to vote for McCain”, and Jackie goes “Oh hell, there’s always a catch.” lol Hillarious. I love ‘em. They have something snide to say about everything and everyone. Democrats, Republicans no one escapes their scorn. You know that is something else I really respect about both Hillary and John, both have been on SNL to poke fun at themselves. Are able to laugh about themselves. They have a sense of humor. Then there is Obama the one who thinks he’s cute, with no sense of humor. I’m the serious candidate. Uh-huh, gotcha.

I’m glad to see that even 9/11 hasn’t changed some people’s view that any evil that takes place in the world is America’s fault. I wish I lived in another country so I didn’t have to be responsible for my actions. I’d set bombs every day, and if I was ever caught, I’d blame America’s foreign policy during the Nixon years. (Ayers anyone?)

If you would like to convert to Islam and submit to Sharia law to appease the fanatics, feel free. Because that is the only thing that will stop the terrorist attacks, according to statements from their leaders.

But perhaps we could offer other concessions to the terrorists in an attempt to keep the peace. For example, we could give them Israel, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, India, Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, etc. How many countries full of innocent people would you like to offer the terrorists in the hopes that they’ll leave you alone? Would countries with huge oil reserves or nuclear weapons count extra? Would the killings of women and jews in the football stadiums be televised? Let me know when you have it all figured out.

The name of the movie this clip was taken from is The Downfall:

    http://www.imdb.com/video/screenplay/vi277610777/

It’s based on Hitler’s last secretary’s (Traudl Junge) diary as to what went down with Hitler in his bunker the 12 days before Berlin fell to the Allied Forces. It was a powerful, well-done, well-acted film, showing the complete insanity of Hitler. It is recommended.

This “editing” on the part of Jeremiah is so hilarious—good work, Jeremiah. Bravo!

What about the ‘finger’ he shot Hillary in a speech as he was talking about her attacking him. It’s on YouTube (Zhkq11UExcw). Supporters say he was just scratching his face, but come on! No one does that with their middle right-hand finger on TV! The crowd reacted to it, and Obama smiled as he continued. Later, in the same speech, and in other speeches, he did ‘just’ scratch his face with his left index finger (He’s left handed). There is just no doubt that it was a ‘bird’. Yeah, he’s quite the ‘winner’.

The US oil and gas industry is sitting on 68 million acres of oil and gas fields already cleared for extraction.

They are idle but still the oil companies and the GOP want to open up even more lands for extraction.

The question is, why don’t the oil companies do domestic extraction on lands already cleared by all levels of government?

Answer: because they want to be able to book those leased lands and it’s oil as assets to inflate their balance sheets. That’s why.

The allowing of offshore drilling should have been made CONDITIONAL on existing extraction on already cleared lands.

There seems to be some confusion about what Dean’s fifty-state strategy was all about. It was never about running a presidential general election campaign in all fifty states. It was about building party organizations in all fifty states, including the deep red ones, where that has been neglected for some time.

In his 1960 race against John F. Kennedy, Richard Nixon made a pledge to campaign in all fifty states, one that under the pressure of the campaign he did not fulfill.

  • keith

Funny. I guess we “community organizers” again are the ones who are not the “Insiders” — The Obama people have indeed reallocated their field organizers from Georgia to other battleground states, but the organizations they built this year remain in place, being run by local volunteers who live and work in these communities. And we continue to register hundreds of new Obama voters in my town alone weekly — new voters who do not register as Dem or Rep and dont show up in the vaunted polls. (I registered four in the last hour myself.) So, the implosion referred to may well be occurring, but here in 159 homegrown county Obama organizations statewide what we see is continued enthusiasm, new volunteers daily, and growing ranks of voters who intend to vote for change in November. SO it could be that the “implosion” will occur Nov 4th, and its victims could well be the poll-reading “insiders” who take their cues from what lands on their desktop screens, while the action has been taking place outside, door-to-door in the neighborhoods of Georgia and other so-called “imploding” states.
