Dollars & Numbers Expose Obama’s Real-Life Practice of Sexist Inequity

Share this article with every woman you know. A shocking and revelatory op-ed in today’s Seattle Post-Intelligencer exposes that, despite his claims for “equal pay for an equal day’s work,” Barack Obama pays the women in his own U.S. Senate office:

  • 83 cents for every dollar the men make”

In stark contrast, John McCain pays the women in his U.S. Senate office:

  • $1.04 for every dollar a man makes”

There’s more proof of Obama’s unequal treatment of women, despite his lofty rhetoric to the contrary: “Among Obama’s five best-paid advisors, only one was a woman. Among his top 20, seven were women.”

The op-ed’s title sums up the one of Obama’s more egregious faults — the vast chasm between what Obama says and what Obama does: Obama only talks good game on gender pay equity.”

I am repeatedly astonished by the number of otherwise intelligent and educated people I know, particularly women, who BELIEVE that Obama means what he says. (Didn’t their mothers teach them that “talk is cheap”?) Never once do my besotted ‘bot friends offer up any proof that he follows through on his talk. In contrast, John McCain quietly DELIVERS equity to the women he hires. Here’s more from the op-ed:

“Now is the time to keep the promise of equal pay for an equal day’s work,” Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama said Aug. 28 in his convention acceptance speech. He told the crowd in Denver: “I want my daughters to have exactly the same opportunities as your sons.”

Obama’s campaign website is even more specific. Under the heading “Fighting for Pay Equity,” the women’s issues page laments that, “Despite decades of progress, women still make only 77 cents for every dollar a man makes. A recent study estimates it will take another 47 years for women to close the wage gap with men at Fortune 500 corporate offices. Barack Obama believes the government needs to take steps to better enforce the Equal Pay Act…”

Obama’s commitment to federally mandated pay equity stretches from the Rockies to Wall Street and beyond. And yet it seems to have eluded his Senate office. Compensation figures for his legislative staff reveal that Obama pays women just 83 cents for every dollar his men make. …

Again: SHARE this article with every woman you know.

And let them know about my own mother’s adage that “talk is cheap.”

Remind them about another adage others have told me, “Don’t listen to what they SAY. Watch what they DO.”

Perhaps you can gently deprogram them before November. I know, I know. The odds are poor.

And it’s killing me too to contemplate that I may end up voting for a Republican presidential ticket. I constantly torture myself over the prospect. I flat-out do NOT want to vote for the Republican ticket.

But do I think that John McCain is vastly more qualified than Barack Obama? Oh my god yes! And his moderate and maverick policy views have appeal for me.

DCMediaGirl’s exceptional essay yesterday, “A Ball of Confusion,” expressed my own quandary and the sources of my own anger, in good part about Obama’s and the Democratic party’s sexist behavior and remarks during the primaries, as well as Obama’s exploitation of the “race card” .

Today, we have yet more proof that Barack Obama is a thoughtless sexist who treats and pays women like second-class citizens.

And now I know that John McCain honors women in a way that really counts: IN THEIR PAYCHECKS.

I will not forget come November.

A Vote for McCain/Palin 08 is a vote for Clinton/2012…Barky has to lose or Clinton cannot run in 2012…The Party will be even more obstructive to her candidacy if Barky and his travellin Glam Sham wins the WhiteHouse….I’m just sayin’

  • Freedom Fighter

    Susan,
I agree with you. Voting for the Republicans is just wrong, as we all know how much they hate women and minorities. If you don’t like Obama either, then you should stay home.

  • http://www.vowofhappiness.blogspot.com Daniel F

I will vote for Ralph Nader as Barack Obama is not an anti-war candidate. But I feel strongly that since Sarah Palin has been subjected to an intense grilling from an adversarial reporter it is now Mr Obama’s turn to prove that he is as tough and as knowledgable and as a woman.

You might start a clock at McCain’s website counting the hours from Palin’s interview until the Senator from Illinois proves he is as gutsy as the governor of Alaska and answers real questions.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

Once again we are told to stay home….lol….you have no right to tell a person who to vote for…or to not vote…this troll must be Donna B.

  • JM08

I cant believe McCain made that comment about it being easy to be out of touch with everyday americans while in Washington.

Why would he just give a gift like that to Obama ?

We are going to have to win this thing in spite of McCain. He is just doing everything possible to make the job more difficult than it need be.

He is going to have to quit praising Obama all the time and bad talking himself, and just attack …..

He needs to stop worry about being honoralble, and call out Obama for all his un american ties.

  • Kim

This would make an excellent campaign ad for McCain. Nothing will piss off women more. I put-up with this kind of crap at several of my jobs. The people that owned the first company I worked for, were still under the archaic notion that men needed more money because they had families to support.

  • Freedom Fighter

I didn’t tell anyone who to vote for. Susan said she doesn’t want to vote for either. So, if she’s got no one to vote for, then she should stay home.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

Do you think Obama supporters would vote for Clinton in 2012 after reading comments like this all over the internet?…I don’t but that is my opinion…

  • Jim S

Thank Cindy McCain, she’s the main motivation behind McCain going after the women’s vote, the number of women on his staff and even how they are paid. She’s also why you see Sarah Palin on the ticket. When McCain started the vetting process for his VP, Palin was being pushed by Cindy, even before Hillary was pushed out by the DNC and Obama.

Meanwhile, as I switch tracks to Obama the organizer allow me to direct your attention to an article from the Canada Free Press:

Another Obama attack right now is on the rape kit payments, a situation, it turns out, that is a nationwide problem.

US News did a story a while back and indicated one of the states with problems is Illinois.

Turns out experts on sexual assault are all too familiar with the issue. “It’s been a problem for a long time,” says Ilse Knecht, deputy director of public policy at the National Center for Victims of Crime. “We’ve heard so many stories of victims paying for their exams, or not being able to and then creditors coming after them.” In order to qualify for federal grants under the Violence Against Women Act, states have to assume the full out-of-pocket costs for forensic medical exams, as the rape kits are called. But according to a 2004 bulletin published by the NCVC, “[F]eedback from the field indicates that sexual assault victims are still being billed.” Knecht says she’s recently heard from caseworkers in Illinois, Georgia, and Arkansas reporting that rape victims continue to be charged for their forensic exams.

    http://www.usnews.com/blogs/on-health-and-money/2008/2/21/rape-victims-can-be-hurt-financially-too.html

Isn’t Illinois controlled by the Democrats? And doesn’t it have some senator that is running for president?

I think this is an issue that requires federal action — no telling where the problem is lurking. It’s something our Democratically controlled Congress should have been alert to, and done something about.

McCain knows what he’s doing. He understands the clever use of surrogates. Obama does not (and Obama has no effective surrogates–they all hate him, they preferred Clinton, they fear the consequences of his election, and accordingly, they are dragging their feet when it comes to helping him).

McCain IS honorable. And it will stand him in good stead. Obama has never been honorable–when he plays that game for the electoral audience, they see through it.

  • http://mccaindemocrats.wordpress.com/ 30yrdem-not any more

funny how they don’t check before they attack..

  • Paul3triple

Freedom Fighter, how can you say republicans hate women? McCain pays women more than males and obama, “mr Equal pay” pays them less. That says it all.
Just because dems brainwashed you to believe every women should abort their unborn and republicans believe life is sacred and has human rights DOES not mean they hate women.
Who has a women on the ticket? oh thats right McCain.
So i guess it is obama that hates women.

They believe if they say it enough people will think it is true…what they don’t realize is we check our candidate’s before we vote…Obama was not vetted…now his actions are catching up with him.

Oblahblah says what he thinks people want to hear, but fails in conviction and follow- thru. McCain says a few things I may not want to hear, my I trust on the things we agree upon he will be committed and deliver. The white-haired dude- Canidate Y- is growing on me. I think he will do just fine as a placeholder until Hillary in 2012.

Talk is cheap, show me the cash, LOL.

We knew this to be true last year when people counted the number of women working on the campaigns and compared their wages. McCain not only employees more women, he pays them an equitable wage and he’s been consistant about it.

McCain likes women, it’s been obvious for a while, LOL. I snark about it, but look at who he surrounds himself with. Look at the expressions on their faces. Look at Cindy McCain, Sarah Palin, Carly Fiorina. Now take a look at Michelle and tell me which candidate inspires more female scowls? Obama does not like women, it’s as plain as the frown on Michelle’s face.

The event was witnessed by 3 reporters and two aides of John McCain, Doug Cole and Wes Gullett.

She picked up a Juicy Couture coat for Willow and a tweed blazer for herself by Escada, which is one of her favorite labels, a saleswoman said.

That’s not the point…the point is about Equal Pay legislation that McCain OPPOSES. That’s it. So assuming you are correct and Obama is a chauvinist thug in his hiring practices…how many people does that impact? How many women would be affected by equal pay legislation. There is simply no comparison.

  • Tristan

Equal pay for equal work is obviously a good principle but incredibly hard to legislate and litigate. Everyone has different capabilities and experience, and in many cases different responsibilities and titles. You don’t want to create a situation in which every woman who is unhappy with her paycheck can sue an employer for six figure punitive damages. You’d really have to nail down the implementation details.

  • Above My Pay Grade

Stop the lies, you sound just like Barry!

She did not say she wanted to “invade Russia”. She answered Gibson’s hypothetical (and 100% correctly) about whether the U.S. might need to come to the aid of Georgia or Ukraine IF they were members of NATO (which they are not at this time.)

When the babbling fool you support first responded to the Russian invasion of Georgia he put out a statement that implied there was moral equivalency between the Russian invaders and the democratic nation of Georgia that was invaded.

Then, later, he changed his tune a demanded a meeting of the UN Security Council, apparently not knowing that Russia is a permanent member with the power to VETO any resolution. Duh!

These were both monumental gaffes that showed how totally clueless and unprepared Barry is to be CIC or even Mayor of Wassila for that matter.

As for Cindy McCain, if past drug problems of family members are relevant to the campaign, I think Barry needs to be grilled about all the details of HIS ADMITTED ILLEGAL DRUG USE. The American people need to know:

    1) Exactly what drugs did you abuse Senator Obama? Cocaine, heroin, meth?

    2) How long did this drug abuse go on? Has it stopped? If so, tell us exactly when and how you kicked your drug addiction? Are you ever tempted to snort or shoot up now?

    3) Did you ever sell or distribute illegal drugs?

    4) If you had been caught, every time you used, possesed or sold drugs, how much prison time might you be subject to?

So, I don’t think you want to go there on Cindy McCain. There is a reason Barack said “families are off limits”, and his own drug abuse is a big part of it.

  • Above My Pay Grade

You might have read past the first line to note that his highest paid staffers are men so it skews the numbers.

Um, uh, well, yeah. If your highest paid staffers are men, I guess that will “skew” the ratio of pay between men and women, but how does that make Barack look better?

    He either:

    a) Underpays women for doing the same sort of work as men.
    or
    b) Discriminates against women, by giving men the important high paying jobs, and has the women do secretarial work, clean up the place and fetch coffee for the boys.

I guess he is claiming “b”.

Either way, it exposes him as a rank hypocrite.

  • Animal Control

Agreed*. Obama is a terrible long-term plan for the Democrats.

The best we can do is hope for is eight years of redemption starting in 2012 a la Hillary Clinton.

(*I disagree that if Obama is disqualified prior to November that Hillary would have a good shot at winning the White House at this point. Not that I’m saying it couldn’t happen because I’ve felt for awhile now that Obama is constantly one scandal away from being unable to continue in the election. However, some of Hillary’s 2008 base has already eroded: Some are ticked at her for towing the Party line; others may have decided they actually identify MORE with Sarah Palin than they do with Hillary Clinton, although I certainly am not one of those people. Obama loyalists and new converts might feel as if Hillary or her supporters contributed to whatever the scandal might be that knocks him off, and still other Dems might be so heartsick and disgusted by Nov. 4 that they simply do not want to vote. It’s too late now for Hillary ’08. This is not Hillary’s fault, though, she’s done everything that could be asked for of a person.)

    Nice try.

  • richasis

i don’t see jay-z and ludacris – or the whole of the degenerate hip-hop crowd – climbing on board, do you? :)

  • yttik

You also don’t want to create a situation where every woman has to sue to get equitable wages. I mean there you are, broke, unemployed, and stuck in court for the next decade.

Much better to just follow McCain’s lead and pay them fairly in the first place. LOL, sorry Obama, but I like that idea better.

  • richasis

and barko gets elected as a result? nice try…

  • Perry Logan

I want the Obama supporters out of my party.

That c*^t remark never happened. It is a progressive urban legend.

And John McCain, traumatized from 5 years of isolation and torture, behaved terribly in his first marriage, terribly.

This was about the same time that Barack’s good buddy, William Ayers, was planting bombs in public buildings to murder innocent people.

Let’s not discuss moral relativity OK?

Look at that McC! Quietly fabulous. SMILE!
    (hi everyone!)
RD needs to hear about this!

    xxoo! & hugs!

  • wry

When you mention it, he was hot in a Republican Top Gun kind of way.

  • SteveS

Staying home is NOT an option. There are plenty of ‘down ticket’ races and issues that need your vote, even if there is trouble with the top of the ticket.

Voting is more than a civil right; it’s a civil duty.

  • ddd242

Or he pays one staffer soo much it skews. There are a million possibilities and as I responded to somebody else, assuming Obama is a chauvinist. How many women are affected in his office, etc.?

How many women are affected by equal pay legislation that McCain refuses to back? McCain could hire all women and it wouldn’t even be a blip in terms of the number of women equal pay legislation helps. This argument is a joke. It’s the policies that affect people.

  • wry

No! I want a dope head as President!

  • 58states

No, I don’t want a VP who wants to invade Russia. And neither does Palin. McCain or the GOP.

Actually….I want a VP who comprehends that if Georgia were to join NATO then according to the fundamental concept of NATO… ALL members would be obliged to defend Georgia as a fellow member (militarily or otherwise) And she said so. Funny how that part isn’t making it into the quotes….

She DID NOT say she wants to invade Russia. That’s yet another instance of taking something so utterly out of context that it espouses a completely different policy.

The US is part of NATO. Russia is not. (they have a “relationship” with NATO but they are NOT members). If Georgia were to become a member, then EVERYONE in NATO (not just the US, but 20-some-odd countries) would respond, which *could* involve military. In fact, the idea is as much about discouraging military action as anything. In this case, Russia would have to more seriously consider attacking “Georgia: a member of NATO”

The whole CONCEPT of NATO was collective defense, so accusing her of “wanting to invade Russia” is a really clueless comprehension of, or really duplicitous spin on, US membership in NATO. Take your pick. Are you suggesting women aren’t represented by someone that knows what NATO is, and how it works?

The rest I shall not dignify with response.

  • wry

Gee this is remarkable. You might have read past the first line to note that his highest paid staffers are men

NO shit, Sherlock! That’s the point.

  • richasis

to be fair, that michill thing may be well beyond barko – she’s an angry racist and separatist. Just read her Princeton thesis…

to this day, she exudes those sentiments of long ago…

  • wry

OJ killed his wife…how many people does that impact?
He was a great football player. Cheered on by hundreds of thousands of fans.
Who cares what he does in his own backyard?
    There is simply no comparison.

  • ddd242

OMG his highest paid staffers are men. If they aren’t women then he is a chauvinist. IF he doesn’t hire black people he is racist.

Assuming you ascribe the worst to him on this Sherlock, how many people does Obama’s sexist hiring policies affect?

How many women would benefit from legislation MANDATING equal pay for equal work that McCain OPPOSES? This argument is just stupid. More lipstick on a pig BS.

  • richasis

oh my god… he’s so not socialist! boo hoo!

  • ddd242

    They even look the same

  • ddd242

I guess recognizing false analogies isn’t one of your strong suits.

  • richasis

it’s very easy to legislate when you’re socialist!

  • WMCB

LOL! Well, Cindy and McCain are still together, and she seems awfully strong to me.

I once in a fit of anger called my husband a huge-ass walking talking pr*ck mother f*cker.

Do I hate men? Nope. I was just pissed.

  • WMCB

ROTFLMAO! Oh, I am loving this! Just loving it! You guys are really coming unglued, aren’t ya?

  • WMCB

Wrong. McCain is not against it in theory, but had problems with the lawsuit provisions in that particular bill.

But please, continue to implode by screaming at me that the party and the candidate who spent 19 months walking all over, spitting at, insulting, and demeaning us women now just loves us to bits.

“Come back baby, I have candy and flowers and will treat you so goood.”

Nope. You laid a hand on me one time too many.

  • Lipstick LaPig

Good. McCain will have a field day with this.

  • Pink Panther

Obama’s actions speak louder than Obama’s words-in every part of his life. How can any women support this poseur?

OMG, Susan is for McCain! I’m a Democrat never been Independent, and proudly to say I’m also voting for McCain. “Talk is cheap.”

  • Pink Panther

On Sept. 12, the Wall Street Journal ran an article entitled, Black Voters Fret Over Obama. The article discusses the conversations occurring on black talk shows and black themed websites.

Some of the statements in the article include:

(Quoting Bev Smith, a nationally syndicated radio talk show host) “My audience is upset,” she said in an interview. “Some people said they would be so angry it would be reminiscent of the [1960s] riots — that is how despondent they would be.”

If Sen. Obama loses, “African-Americans could be disappointed to the point of not engaging in the process anymore,” or consider forming a third political party, said Richard McIntire, communications director for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

“If he loses, it will shake the very ground that we stand on mentally as far as what we need to be to succeed,” said Robert Gordon, a 48-year-old engineering surveyor from Dallas. “From day one, we’ve been told to be a certain way, to be neat, intellectual, speak clearly. He is the symbol of what we were told to be by our parents and by society as a whole. If this doesn’t work, what does that do to our psyche? What do I tell my sons?”

Don Moses, a retired Army lieutenant colonel, said while he supports Sen. Obama, attributing a loss to race would be an oversimplification and unfair to voters who have legitimate concerns about the candidate. Those concerns include his age and shorter resume, as well as his alienation of “some strong members of the old guard in the Democratic Party,” Mr. Moses said. Concluding that the election may be decided by race also would ignore the reasons some might have to support Sen. John McCain, including his military history, he said.

“I would hope if Obama is not elected, black America will not lose sight of the lessons learned and move forward,” he said.

  • Rev. Wright, can you fix my garlic nose?

as if I’m joining a church or cult, however, I’m going to scream.

    - or AMWAY!

too funny. Did they ask you to a meeting?

I wonder how much he pays his personal aide, Nick Corbin??Ummmmmmmmm

  • Steve1

Well, right now emotionally I feel the sme way. But being pragmatic I believe the AAs have to be given some consideration. They have been duped and they are not using critical thinking skills, they believe Soetoro represents the AA community! Now I can’t speak for them for I am not a AA. But I think I understand why they have investive so much for this fraud, kinda sad. Now for the youth vote, no excuse, they are on too much kool-aid, and als it is an indicment of our educational system, no critical thinking skills what-so-ever?

  • Steve1

SteveS Well I agree, but I’m not voting for my down ticket Dems. The party leaders need to be taught a lesson. BOTH parties have to be held accountable for their actions. The Dem party has been takebn over by thugs, and extreme left-wing radicals, controlled by big money interests. Everything has gotten so corrupted. Well this is where I draw the line. I want to carry out a purge of my party when this is over with.

  • red_sleeves

    AMWAY.

    Too funny.

My wife and I were invited to dinner at the home of an acquaintance from work. After the meal, they suddenly had something very serious to discuss with us…. I was thinking, “Holy shit, they’re swingers!”

When they finally brought up AMWAY I laughed my ass off. Later when I told my wife what I was thinking then, we both laughed because she had been thinking the same thing.

*** Of Course Barky thinks Mayors are Ho-Hum unimpressive…***

  • calindi

I’m not at all surprized, but I’m shocked, Shocked! that the MSM hasn’t picked up on this story. McCain should turn it into an ad.

  • NomNomNom

You are aware that Palin’s hire Wasilla police chief Charlie Fannon, the hire she calls the best of her administration, was for charging the victims of rape for their test kits? (He said they could bill the victim’s insurance company or collect restitution from the perpetrator. I guess it didn’t occur to him that not all women have insurance and the perpetrator might not be in a database or ever caught).

  • Cathy in Ks.

I’m a democrat (yes, still one even though I’m deeply disgusted how leaders of this party, and Obama and his supporters have turned the once “sacred values” of this “democratic party” upside down and inside out.)

But I will vote for the McCain/Palin ticket come November as my husband will because although we do not agree with all the political stances of the McCain and/or Palin we see them as both honorable and courageous people. We see Obama not only as “clueless” but a “fraud” who will do anything to get elected and who stands for “nothing”. We also see some of his supporters as nothing better than “thugs”. Our country needs a presidency that provides integrity and leadership – not some passive-aggressive, immature, woman-hating “frat boy”.

  • Yo

My vote did make a difference! Go Rossi!

I am a former contributor to Gregoire but they called me in early June right after Hillary bowed out and asked me for money and I told them to eat it. When they asked me why I wasn’t supporting Gregoire anymore, I told them because she had backed an inexperienced, fraud of a candidate and told them to go ask the Obamabots for a contribution and hung up on them.

  • StrawberrybitesBarky

I TOLD YOU GUYS!! Keep an eye on Washington State. It’s the canary in the coalmine. But hey, who am I? Just some chick, married with children who didn’t graduate from a Ivy League School who also chose not to have an abortion.

  • richasis

foo fighter… is that you again?

“Do we really want a VP that wants to invade Russia? Or a dope head as first lady? Do we want a POTUS who associates himself with these types of women who don’t represent real women?”

    one at a time:

    1.) that would be better than a Barky who doesn’t even know that Russia sits on the U.N. Security Council;
2.) that would be better than a Barky who is a crackhead, seeing as though its HIS finger on the trigger.
3.) you got me there: in Barky’s world, they’re called transvestites – ask Larry Sinclair.

  • richasis

no samb – barky pays transvestites to do his ‘cleaning out’ :)

  • Michelle

I disagree with their party policies, but to say “Republicans hate minorities and women” is probably the most moronic thing I’ve heard.

Right up there with “If George Bush gets elected, millions of women will be raped”
