Alvin Greene, SC’s “Thinker Outside The Box”

You may recall that there was quite the upset in SC during the recent primaries in which an unemployed man who did no campaigning, had no real policy platform, had no campaign website, and had no campaign funds, beat out his competitor, an elected official. By a lot, I might add. Greene won with 60% of the vote. Oh, yes.

My representative, Jim Clyburn, pitched a hissy fit, insisting that the Republicans were behind Mr. Greene’s candidacy and filing fee. He claimed voter fraud was responsible for the vote through faulty voting machines. The SC State Democrats tried to throw out the election results (who cares about those pesky votes anyway? We already know the Dems don’t after 2008.). They failed in their attempts, and now it seems Mr. Greene’s funds came from the US Government and the State of South Carolina:

[snip] State law enforcement officials wrapped up an investigation of Greene’s finances after questions were raised about how he could qualify for indigent defense and afford to pay more than $10,000 to seek the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate.

Greene’s surprise June 8 upset victory over former circuit judge Vic Rawl initially caused many to speculate Republican operatives had secretly bankrolled Greene’s primary entry fee to sabotage the primary. Rawl’s defeat left Greene the Democratic challenger to U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C.

The source of Greene’s money is none other than the U.S. government and the S.C. state government, said SLED director Reggie Lloyd.

“That’s who bankrolled Greene’s entry fee for the primary,” said Lloyd, whose agency worked with 5th Circuit Solicitor Barney Giese in the investigation. “The U.S. government and the state of South Carolina funded his filing fee.” [snip]

Yes, all of the funds have been accounted for after a thorough investigation:

[snip] Last October, Greene received a $5,843 check from the U.S. Department of Defense in connection with his discharge from the military last year.

“That brought him up to more than $8,200,” Lloyd said.

Greene continued having a checking account balance of about that amount into March, when Greene received a federal income tax refund of $2,173 and a state tax refund of $932, Lloyd said.

“At that point, he had more than $11,400 in his account,” Lloyd said.

Greene was also getting a $1,100 monthly unemployment check, Lloyd said. Since Greene lived with his father and had few expenses other than “haircuts and groceries,” his unemployment check was another source of government income for the discharged veteran, Lloyd said.[snip]

In other words, you and I bankrolled Alvin Green’s filing fee. Hooray for us! Ahem.

I am so sure that a sincere apology to the State Republicans is forthcoming from Rep. Clyburn immediately. Ahahahahahaha. Just kidding.

Now that the funding from Greene’s filing fee has been identified, with no malfeasance on his part, I can now turn to one of his brilliant ideas for job creation. Since Obama has been so busy suing one of the 50 states instead of, oh, working to create jobs, for instance, perhaps Obama could use this idea from Alvin Greene.

And that idea for job creation is – are you sitting down? Crafting action figures of Greene. I am not kidding you. Seriously. He said this. Out loud:

[snip] “Another thing we can do for jobs is make toys of me, especially for the holidays,” Greene said in the article. “Little dolls. Me. Like maybe little action dolls. Me in an Army uniform, Air Force uniform, and me in my suit.”

“That’s something that would create jobs,” Greene continued. “So you see I think out of the box like that. It’s not something a typical person would bring up.” [snip]

Well, I have to give Greene that – this is NOT something a “typical” person would consider. Creating jobs by having action figures made of themselves. Yikes. Though I have to say, I am pretty surprised that Obama has not considered this as a “Works Project.” I mean, the man has already written two autobiographies, so clearly, he thinks pretty highly of himself (my recently departed mother said she couldn’t get through his first one – she thought it was incredibly boring. That from a woman who was a voracious reader and who always finished any book she was reading. Except Obama’s. Telling, that.) Having an “action figure” seems right up Obama’s alley. Just saying. I can’t believe Alvin Greene beat him to it.

That, friends, is the kind of “thinkificating” of the newest Democratic candidate for US Senate from the Palmetto State. Never mind that no one would BUY the damn things, so how the workers making them would be paid is still a mystery. But Mr. Greene has not exactly come off as a Mensa candidate in his interviews anyway (or on his new website). No matter how hard the State Democrats worked, no matter how many (false) allegations they levied, and no matter how much they tried to overturn the will of the people, even if they had no idea for whom they were voting (his name was listed first), Alvin Greene IS the Democratic candidate for US Senator from SC.

You just can’t make this stuff up.

  • Armymom

I read this earlier this week. But I have to say, all we need is another narcissist who thinks we need to make “toys” of him to create jobs. I laughed out loud about it when I read it, but then it dawned on me that it’s too strange, that it could happen. I mean look at what the hell we got in the whitehouse. Who would have thought it?

Have you seen this over at The Right Scoop: http://www.therightscoop.com/democrat-filmmaker-alleges-that-obama-stole-the-election-in-2008

Fox and Friends has started reporting on the fraud in the Texas primaries….hope springs eternal.

  • Hope

Al Green is more experience to be POTUS than Obama and at least he served USA in the service

  • SoCalDem

I would say that this cements Senator DeMint will be re-elected.

  • FlDemFem

Here is something OT, but very interesting… Obama is now going for less than half price..seriously.

Missouri Senate candidate Robin Carnahan has had to slash ticket prices for a Kansas City fund-raiser featuring President Obama. According to this report, $250 tickets have been reduced to $99, and cheap-seat $35 passes are being offered now for half off.

    It’s too funny..the half-assed, half-priced president.

I have to say this story is entertaining! Greene does think big.
None of that running for a lowly alderman spot, and hey, it worked since he is alphabetically correct!
Anything that perturbs Clyburn makes me smile!

  • susiepuma

I’m not sure exactly how I feel about Mr. Greene – however, is he not an example of a citizen who is eligible to run for political office?  Are we to elect only those who are career politicians?  Isn’t that how we wound up in the mess we are in right now?  What exactly do you feel is wrong with Mr. Greene – did we make him take an intelligence test to find out if his IQ is high enough to match those elitist ‘progressives’ already destroying this country?  Do you think that this man who did serve in our Armed Forces is dumb?  Is that how we treat veterans? I wouldn’t vote for him even if I lived in SC since I will never vote for another Dem in the foreseeable future but I really am having trouble with the putdowns of this gentleman? What do you want?

  • Sassy

Senator DeMint, my G.I. Joe is bigger than yours.

  • oowawa

susiepuma, have you heard Greene speak?  He is not as well-spoken as Chance the Gardener.  There was an episode on Cheers where the barroom crowd talks simple Woody into running for city office against a polished career politician.  During the “debate” Woody’s wife runs out to tell him she’s pregnant, and he wins the election.   So who knows!  Stranger things have happened!  Barack Hussein Obama was elected POTUS!

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

The inference is that Greene received money for nothing from the government and that is flat out wrong.

Wait a second here. Greene received a check at discharge for his military service. He earned that money with his service. I commend him.

Are we telling the military that they are getting a government handout, welfare, and don’t earn their pay? Not me.

The other check was an income tax return. Hello – money the government took from his income and paid back with no interest.

How is the money that Greene earned a gift from the government and taxpayer?

Greene may not be the sharpest candidate to run in SC, but I guarantee he is not the dumbest either. I might not vote for him if he were my candidate, but not because of his modest finances.

The people that put out this slanted story are much bigger losers and dolts then Greene will ever be.

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

    I love that movie!

  • No Longer Banned in Beantown

If Greene’s dolls sell better than the Beanie Babies of Obama’s kids, Sasha and Malia, he might have a point.

Sasha and maila have not contributed much to the economy. But a Greene action figure, like GI Joe, and Iron Man, might be just the thing.

    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/2009/01/22/2009-01-22_beanie_babies_new_sasha_and_malia_dolls_.html

Greene has the right idea of small businesses driving the economy. But only Obama can get away with blatant self promotion.

  • Diana L. C.

It’s just terribly frustrating that it’s taken so long for anyone in the media, even Fox, to mention this.  I can’t tell how many times i sent links to the We Will Not Be Silenced videos to newspapers, columnists, radio personalities, etc.  No one answered.

I am positieve thousands of Hillary supporters who knew of these videos did the same as I did, and obviously they were also not listened to.

Makes me furious all over again.

Thanks for saying what I was thinking.

Question for Congressman DeMint: Congressman Demint, to what do you attribute the split between the two Hegalian schools of thought, and how would you tangibly apply transcendental idealism to the current political zeitgeist?

Question for Mr. Greene: Mr. GREENE, what is your favorite color (hint, think about your last name), and please, take your time.

I would say that if Greene were running against an Obama-supporting Dem, he might stand a chance.  Lots of people are very angry and cynical–hey!  I’m one!  And I like underdogs!  If he were running against Harry Reid, Barbara Boxer, John Kerry, or Al Franken–no problem!  He’d have my vote!  And as I was voting for him, I would be saying that phrase that people always used to use on the internet–BwaHaHaHa!

  • Peggy Sue

O.M.G., oowawa.  Are they actually scheduling debates???  I heard about the action figures to stimulate job growth and thought:

    we have entered the endtimes!

I mean, come on!  Who could possibly take this seriously?  I said something to my husband and he said, “When DeMint loses then you know for sure–the end times are upon us.”

Btw, we are transplants to the Bible buckle/belt.

It’s just too, too much to get your head around. :)

Indeed, Doc – I have been working on a post for tomorrow on that.  Thanks for thinking of me!

I remember when this first came out – the documentary.  Such a powerful piece.  It is amazing that all of the research done, all of the complaints made to the proper authorities, all of the shenanigans reported, went for naught.  Staggering.

    Thanks again, Doc!

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Susiepuma, how to put this.  Hmm.  Okay – here it is.  Yes, Mr. Greene,  served his country (and was discharged, though the situations surrounding his discharges are murky.  They weren’t dishonorable, but there were some, um, issues.).

And, well, he does not seem to be firing on all thrusters, if you get my drift.

But in general, I agree that having a regular old person running is a good thing indeed.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Just to be clear – there are questions surrounding Greene’s discharges, but I certainly do not call into question his receiving funds for his service. He earned it, and deserves it, no matter why he was discharged.

Part of his funds were unemployment.  That’s not unusual in a state with over 13% unemployment.  But, Greene has bigger problems than whether he was college educated or not, or whether he is even the sharpest knife in the drawer.  Listen to him give an interview, and it should become clear.

But hey – he won the primary fair and square, so he most definitely is the Dem. candidate for US Senate.  Abt that, despite the attempts of the State Dems to derail him, there can be no doubt.

  • sowsear

Whatever it takes…The end justifies the means…isn’t that what it says in Thee One’s Bible?

  • susiepuma

Yes, I’ve heard him speak – I also have heard the fraud speak – I’ll take Mr. Green over the fraud……………………

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Thanks, JustMe!  Good to be back and to read y’all’s funny, thoughtful, insightful comments, too!

  • sowsear

I cannot find it now, but earlier when I was checking on Alvin, I saw that he said he felt that the Army discriminated against him . They turned him down for promotion for 6 1/2 yrs. And what got him was that Muslim who shot up an army post was a major.
Maybe he said that to someone in the army and that is why he received an involuntary discharge.  As I remember he was in the army for 13 1/2 yrs. and he graduated from UC. I still can’t figure out how he could have graduated with a BS if he was dimwitted or even slow.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oh, I forgot – he does have that pesky little charge against him, but he hasn’t been found guilty yet, so…

Hey, his degree was from the University of South Carolina, how much could it be worth? with courses like “Gum Chewing 101″, and “Walking 101″, all you’d need to graduate is to prove you can do both at the same time. What would you expect from a school with a chicken for a mascot?

  • ~~JustMe~~

Wow kinda fun, I’m sure with those qualifications he could have the chicks flocking and fainting. Who knows as long as he has water to pass out he will do fine. Maybe get voted in with flying colors!

LOL–in that interview, Greene says if a movie is made about him, he wants to be played by Denzel Washington.  Actually, that’s not bad.  It could be one of those multi-role performances, like Peter Sellers played in Dr. Strangelove.  In addition to playing both Alvin Greene and Thee One, Denzel could play an outraged James Clyburn.  I think it might be a comedy.

Personally, I’ll go with Stewart’s take on S.C. politics.  S.C. is the whoopie cushion of the U.S.  To retain that status, they have to elect Greene.

Indeed, Diana – and as some of the late night pundits have said, since Greene’s already been charged with a sexual harassment charge, he should fit right in.  Ahem.  :-D

I think it would be the epitomy of a longshot for Greene to win, unless Republicans thought it would be funny as hell to elect a Dem like him into the Senate so voted for him.

And all of his records are not out.  There continue to be questions abt why he was discharged from the service (his first discharge appears to have been honorable, but both, from the Air Force and the Army, appear to have been involuntary separations).  Oh, and he does have a college degree, too, from the Univ. of South Carolina.

  • Diana L. C.

Well, it also depends on his major also.  I used to get very disgusted at the “educational administration” majors at my Alma Mater.  There was a several-year run when I had just graduated with my BA during which NO ONE graduated with that major without a 4.0 average.  Now, did that mean the people in the program were geniuses?  Or did it mean the program was a joke?  (I’ll give you a hint:  Think Billy Ayers and his department.)

  • Diana L. C.

I still think the Greene candidacy in S.C. serves the De,mocratic party there right.  They’re the ones who “taught” all those non-educated Dem voters how to vote.

  • ~~JustMe~~

Still what’s a little paper mix up? More paper work available than someone running for President. Just sayin ;)

Maybe Mr. Greene should head on back for a medical degree? He would be an excellent Obamacare practitioner.

That’s what being a rabid partisan does to your brain Onofre’s arm. To them, from either end of the spectrum, their guy/gal is better than our guy/gal just because of the stupid letter after their name.

You may or may not agree with Demint’s positions but he’s no more of an idiot than many/most Democrats in Congress or the Senate.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

WhatNow, Greene wasn’t charged for anything related to his finances, but as I understand it,t he investigation stemmed from his claim that he was indigent when the felony charge regarding the young woman was made.  So, he does still have that felony charge, just no additional one from the state (making a false statement, maybe?).

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

It does serve them right, Diana.  But the BIG thing with the State Dem. Party is that they revealed how quickly they are willing to toss aside 60& of voters.

Now, most of us already know they did that in Texas, MI, anf FL, but people had to be paying attention. This time, they didn’t even try to hide it in any way, shape, or form!  Heck, the US House Majority Whip jumped on this immediately, trying to cast aspersions abt how Greene got on the ballot.  So, yeah – this is a whole new ballgame…

No matter how bad the program, no one who is functionally illiterate or just plain stupid should be able to get a four year degree…

I still contend this was yet another political crime.  While I know I jump to conclusions very fast when it comes to dirty politics and the dishonorable Clyburn – given his history – I hope there is someone investigating this other than Clyburn or even the *&#@ DOJ.

Let’s look at this a minute.  Why would Sen Demint or the repubs run a dem like Greene??  Demint has no chance of losing in SC in Nov.  AAs may have the majority of registered dems (60% all of whom apparently *voted* for Greene), but they are a drop in the bucket compared to registered repubs.

Who has learned the ropes around washington and the available funds if manipulated right?  Clyburn.  He learned from the best and has been using his knowledge against the people who taught it to him.  This is Jim Demint’s first re-election and he probably does not have a clue about such things.   He’s been very busy being Mr. Right Wing.  But the clever Clyburn is a whole different story.

My theory is Clyburn is behind this power grab regardless of his hissy-fit.  Once discovered, Clyburn had no choice but to scream “foul”.  The reason he would do this is he is 1) drunk with power and controls the AA registry in SC by 80%. 2) If Greene received 60% of the vote while not lifting a finger, why wouldn’t he be able to sit tight while Clyburn’s puppets (and I do mean puppets) would ‘take care’ of the rest.  With a bit more rigging of the voting machines, the absentee ballots, and God help any SC hole-in-the-road that uses paper ballots,  I can see dopey Clyburn (brain scrambled on kool-aide) feeling his oats and making even more dopey Greene the new US Senator from SC.  The ge would be much harder to track than the primary.  Clyburn projected they would be home free after the primary and could claim all manner of reasons why this happened.

Someone unemployed, living with their father, unless crazy is not going to spend all the money they may ever get again on running for a losing proposition.  So, cool it, commenters, this is not legitimate money this man received.  They assumed you would think what you’re sympathetically thinking – ‘this was money he earned’.  I live in this crazy political carnival state now – no way is this the whole story!!  There is no other suspect!  It was Clyburn.

Did anyone catch the Obama crucifix on the wall?  Oy vey.

    BOO!

     (lol) Couldn’t resist!

Green IS Obama, without the teleprompter !!

  • Tamara Cracker

    Don’t you guys get it?

The media is IN THE TANK for Obama.  To a degree which is bordering on the Soviet Union.

Fox wouldn’t touch the story in 2008 because Obama was untouchable at the time.

Timing is everything with news pieces.

But the only “news” station on the air today is FOX.  Some of you here still don’t watch it, and that stuns me.  They have a right slant, but they have people from both sides of the isle to discuss it.  That’s what the MSM used to do before they literally started reading White House points on the air.
Like, “White House Soup of the Day” on that “Joe” morning show.
    Are you fricking kidding me?

FOX has become the journalists, uncovering the Black Panther story.  No one else will touch it because they’ve been ordered by the White house NOT to cover it.
This is so incredibly disturbing that I can barely believe it.

And reporters are trying to cover the oil story, and are being blocked by GOVERNMENT agencies.  What are they trying to hide? Everything.
    And is the media outraged?
    No.
They don’t want to lose their special passes to the White House parties.
This is scary, folks.  VERY scary.

I think it’s wonderful that South Carolina Dems are willing to vote into office their first mentally challenged Senator.
It just shows everyone how stupid the voters are, and how sad our country has become that people will vote for a “cool name” without even knowing the candidate.

I’m going to run next year as Candy Cane or Peanut Butter.
    People like those things.

  • Onofre’s arm

The FIRST mentally challenged Democrat Senator????

  • Onofre’s arm

    Greene’s major was………..wait for it…………..POLITICAL SCIENCE!!!!

I think Green is a test case to see how far the Dems can go in “electing” anyone they want — including an apparently dim witted man like Green, another Trojan Horse candidate.  Until I see or hear otherwise, the man doesn’t seem to be up to the task.  Have his college transcripts been made public?  What do his teachers have to say about his academic performance?  What does his military records show?  Does he even know why he wants to run for the Senate — besides the perks, I mean?

  • ~~JustMe~~

Well I’m sure if he gets in Freddie or Fannie will allow him to buy his own house and move out of his mothers or is it his father’s?

  • Onofre’s arm

That’s a good point trixta, I think the Democrats might as well take it one step further though. They’ve managed to push through humongous bills without knowing what was in them, why can’t they just leave the name on the ballot blank, like this:

    U.S. Senate
_______________________ (D) (Name to be filled in later)
    James DeMint…………….(R)

  • trixta

    So true, Onofre’s arm!

  • trixta

[i.e. what do his military records show....]

  • trixta

“Hope and Change” at half price!

  • susiepuma

Didn’t you hear?  Dems don’t have to show anything – they just are – vote ‘em in…………….

  • Docelder

Democrats would elect Fidel Castro to the presidency here if he showed up with a Hawaii birth certificate. They don’t have to be very smart to know the difference between D and R. They don’t give a rat’s ass about the rest.

  • ~~JustMe~~

There are questions surrounding Greene’s discharges, Up thread from Amy.

  • ~~JustMe~~

Plus DeMint needs to be careful they do not switch votes over to Greene. They have been known to do that too. =-O

  • ~~JustMe~~

    OMG!! LOL

  • Onofre’s arm

The Democrats would elect Castro on name recognition alone.

  • ~~JustMe~~

Well there is one thing, Castro could be on top of the list.

    Castro
    DeMint
    Green

Let us hope Castro stays where he is!

  • Annie/Carmel

True, when you start watching Fox, even with the stories repeated by each Host, there’s no going back to MSM.

  • lorac CheezIts

Wow.  It would be informative to see where that major in that school rank-compared to other schools.  Maybe it was political science in the vocational training program….?  I wonder what his job was in the military – a grunt job or something professional, based on his having a degree.  It just doesn’t jive, his having a degree.  Either that school is a really poorly performing school, or it was affirmative action, or his father was a huge donor to the school, or he suffered brain damage in the service.  Something just doesn’t add up!

  • kenoshamarge

Mentally challenged candidates being elected by mentally challenged voters sounds like something on Comedy Central.

People that are so partisan that they will vote for any dingbat with a “D” after their name is excusable only for the mentally challenged.

Voting for some nitwit just because they have the correct letter after their
name says a lot about your ability to think for yourself. I ought to know, been there, done that.

Just because I’m ashamed of having been “stupidly partisan” then doesn’t mean I will not call out and diss any who are “stupidly partisan” now. It has to stop.

I seen the light and it’s a big “Independent” light. Hallelujah!

Yesterday you claimed Obama’s Justice Department refused to file a criminal case against the National Black Panther Party for voter intimidation.  It now turns out that the intimidation in question took place during the Bush Administration’s tenure and the decision not to prosecute was made by the Bush Justice Department before President Obama took office.

Prior to that, you claimed Obama ceded Arizona park land to Mexico.  Turns out no land was ceded and the 1% of the wildlife refuge that was closed for safety reasons was closed in 1996 when Bush was president.

I’m disappointed Larry Johnson allows flagrant intellectual dishonesty on his site as it calls into question the credibility of the other posts.

  • oowawa

LOL–this is like a whodunit mystery gamel . . . Congressman Clyburn did it in the courthouse with his fat wallet . . .

  • oowawa

That wasn’t mentioned, because it goes without saying that Bush did it . . .

  • ~~JustMe~~

Well sufered, not as disappointed as we are you keep posting here.

  • ~~JustMe~~

Bush is out of office so Obama could bring the appropriate action it goes without saying. Plus he could send more help to the AZ border to protect citizens living in area. Can you explain why he has not?

  • PssttCmere

And put Clyburn out to pasture…sick of his sorry ass!!

This is another complete lie surfered! There were initially 4 defendants in the case, the two NBPs who stood in front of the polling station, The leader of the NBP, Malik Shabazz, and the entire NBP party. During Bush, all four defendants never showed up to defend themselves so that they were found guilty by default, this was a slam dunk case. There is less than three months between election day and inauguration day, and even under the best scenario, it would have been impossible for the Bush Justice department to fully prosecute these MF’ers through to sentencing. Most of the prosecution of the case took place with the Obama Justice dept. as a matter of course as pending cases are routinely passed between outgoing and incoming administrations. The case was never dropped by the Bush  DOJ, it was continued under the Obama DOJ, and it was WON. It was AFTER the case was won that Obama appointees in the DOJ ordered that charges to be dropped.

“the decision not to prosecute was made by the Bush Justice Department before President Obama took office.”

This is a contemptible lie surfered, and you continue to be a filthy, shit eating, malicious liar.
