Your comment brings back memories. We’re down to 10 from our original 12 cats. The two who went on did so in our house under our care. We didn’t go the euthanasia route. One, Buster (the brother of a still kicking cat who is 17) died a year ago at the age of 16. It was difficult but we took care of him until the very end. We also let the other cats (and dogs) look at him at the end so they could understand, too.  
 
The other, Moose, went from taking food from our plate to staggering around within a matter of hours. We made him comfortable and waited and went through the same routine with the other cats and dogs to allow them to understand. He probably had a stroke. Needless to say, we’re going to do this ten more times and it really hurts beyond measure each time but we are determined to let nature take its course. I do empathize with you.

As anybody who has watched the firestorm of news surrounding Shirley Sherrod knows, the media have found a new post-racial saint. With each reporter as eager as the last to fawn all over Sherrod, it’s become a circus. The concocted narrative is as follows: Sherrod was unfairly taken out of context while trying to spread an inspiring story of getting past her own racial bias in order to help a white man keep his farm. According to the propagandists (aka, “reporters”), Sherrod is an over-comer and has been redeemed….

Well, oowawa, we Americans can be pretty tough when push comes to shove. The Japanese and Germans will more than likely concur. These banditos should stay on their side of the border and leave us alone. If, however, the feds do nothing and the states have to take care of business, then the term Volunteer becomes important.

So true my other one that went to heaven last Christmas followed me onto a bus in the UK one night when I was going out. (Bus so I could party all night long) I had to shoo him off. The following day he was sat outside my flat and just moved in LOL… He too was 20 and sooooo cute black with white socks! Funny thing after that, he really was an indoor cat till I got bubbles. If I was getting ready to go out he would go out and bring something home. A mouse bird, whatever just as I was ready to leave…. LOL so I’d have to spend the next hour chasing around the place to catch the mouse. One time the bird he brought me was simply a little stunned and was panicking, flying around bashing into the windows etc till I was able to set it free!!! What FUN!!!

Ferd, when your animals finally go, they have the comfort of being “in the arms of the angel.”  I didn’t always know how important this is, both to creature and caregiver, but I sure do now.

It occurs to me that on the heels of the Sherrod news cycle and all the misinformation that is being exclaimed by cnn on her behalf and by her, that this Laredo story could be planted in an attempt to touch off some sort of wild-eyed response from people on the border and throughout the blogosphere to a “War of the Worlds” -type, manufactured crisis.  What a hey day cnn and the WH could have with that–absolute proof that the internet needs to be controlled for the purpose of national security.   This whole (Laredo) thing is starting to sound like some kind of ’50s irradiated spiders or ants movie script.  You remember those, right?  Thinly-veild movie plots dealing with threat of nuclear fallout from our cold war agitations with Russia.  You know darn well that if this was real, there’d be a firestorm of reporting on it from every person with a cell phone camera.  Instead we get one main story reposted on a half dozen web sites.  Apparently the ony communications equipment in Laredo are two tin cans and a length of string.  

The statement that “the POTUS is not ready is wrong.  It seems to say that at some point he will be ready.  He will never be ready because he is intellectually, emotionally and societally lacking.  He doesn’t even know what it means to be an American.  Look at his background.  What’s American about his goals? 
It was wrong then to elect him (fraudulently) then and it’s wrong now to keep him in office without knowing about who he is.
Wrongheaded Americans made a mistake that’s costing all of us and the nation’s reputation around the world. They gave him a pass.
That won’t happen next time around.

I caught a minute of the CNN drivel while I was channel surfing last night. I could hardly believe my eyes. Ms. Sherrod certainly is getting more than the usual “15″ minutes alloted to people like her.

I’m sure her willingness to trash FOX without rhyme or reason, even less reason than the reasons she was trashed, is what made CNN decide to do this.

Envy is a contemptible thing in a “news” channel. Even one as low on the totem pole as CNN. How the “mighty” has fallen. When doing a docudrama of Shirley Sherrod is the best you can do, you ain’t doing much.

Yeah it would kind of make hash of the contention that these are just innocent people looking for a better life. A Better life they start by “sneaking” across the border of another country and in doing so start their residency by breaking the laws of the country they entered in search of that “new” life.

Never have I said I served in combat. I have always said I am a veteran. I served in an isolated German town called Wildflecken on top of a rock about 2 miles from the former East Germany for 2-1/2 years in the late 70s when it wasn’t cool to be a soldier. And I volunteered. The boredom was oppresive but so was the thought that we could be kiiled at any second due to the hysteria about communists. You would have had to be there, The American public did not support us nor did the German public but we served and served well.  Let me tell you something, bub, I would rather have had rifle in my hand and an enemy to fight than what I and my fellow soldiers suffered through. Intense boredom with nothing to do, complete isolation, and a hostile public is not easy to deal with. And this was for me, two years, seven months, and one day of fucking hell while in my teens.

It made me stronger than steel, though, when I “got back to the world”. I have the patience of Job and can outlast, out-think, and out-perform any fucker of my age group because they did not serve and did not in droves.

Again, I say you’re wrong. Go away.

They just did another segment on Fox and Friends on the caucus fraud.  They had that same guy on who was the executive producer of the documentary.  I wish they’d send someone else – he has a speech impediment or something, it takes him a few seconds before he can start a sentence, and I think they need someone more strong and quick.  
 
Alyson asked him to respond to the charge by the guy on her show yesterday who said that these complaints were never brought to the attention of the DNC.   The first time he answered this question, he actually didn’t address it.  When she asked it another way, he said something about how Hillary couldn’t rock the boat because the media was Obama-biased.  All true, but he couldn’t mention she put out a press release?  
 
I totally DID like that he mentioned that they stole Hillary’s delegates at the RBC meeting.  IMO, that was even more egregious than the caucus fraud – it was active, it can’t be “excused” as a passive lack of responding to a situation.  I also really like that he encouraged viewers to google “Harold Ickes” and “hijack”.  I hope people do that.  I’m going to write Alyson to suggest that she PLAY a clip of that video on her show next week – although she may not want to muddy the waters of the topic she is focusing on.  
 
The bad news is that the guy on yesterday told Alyson that if they want to know if it’s true, they should ask Hillary about this.  What a jerk.  He knows she can’t speak about it now.  Total jerk.  
 
Alyson said they’d do an update next weekend, to see if the DNC has responded.  She didn’t mention a guest.  I hope she’s going to have someone from the documentary again.

Three points to bust your bubble:

1) Obama job approval ratings have essentially been flat at about 50% for the last year. Those are very good ratings given the economic downturn. In fact, Obama’s job approval ratings remain above those of Reagan at this point in his Presidency.

See this chart. So despite the NQ narrative that Obama’s ratings have been falling or are bad, that is simply not true. Go look at the facts your self. Look at the polling averages.

2) There are signs that the Democrats’ ratings are begining to improve. The public is finally beginning to appreciate that the Dems are getting stuff done.

Try reading my post a little better. Where do I say that Obama doesn’t suck as much as Bush… ??  Actually Bush ratings when he left office were below 30%, so Obama is not even close to where Bush was. Obama’s ratings are very good, they have consistently held at about 50%, so given that he won the election with 53% of the vote, his numbers are holding up pretty well. You can argue that he has barely lost any of his support from the people who voted for him. Again his ratings are higher than both Reagan and Clinton at this point in his presidency. That despite an unprecedented economic downturn and a continueous trashing by people like you and NQ.

Politics is all a relative game. Voters always face a choice. It is completely correct to always be comparing Dems to Repubs.

Yep.  Oddly enough, NQ, while still being heavily censorious, has actually slighly relaxed its policy on dissent in the last few months.  It used to be that if you showed up and said something contrary to the NQ line, an admin would not only delete the post and ban your avatar from commenting, they would wholesale ban your IP address, so that you could never comment again under ANY name.  These days almost all of the censorship is reader-generated, through the flagging system.  It’s still an awful way to go (it only takes FIVE people to delete a post?  really Larry?), but it is a slight improvement over the old system.

I certainly don’t see it as often, but it does happen.  I think one of the differences is that the Right side of politics is engineered more towards groupthink and following a leaders or leader(s).  That’s why you see so many purgings on the Right when someone steps out of line.  The Left is more engineered towards a Big Tent, disparate views, fractious disputes, and circular firing squads (see how little credit Obama gets from places from FireDogLake, etc., even though he has passed the most compelling progressive agenda since at least the mid-60′s, if not the 30′s.)  So their comment sections tend to be more tolerant of a wide range of views, sometimes allowing disputes to boil pretty high.  But I have definitely seen censorship at some lefty blogs.

People who have nothing to offer but yapping are part of the problem. jackie and nice try have nothing to offer and are diluting the message. In my view the Dems are doing a pretty good job at starting the “clean up” of the mess the Republican party and George Bush got this country into over not only Bush’s term, but really since that farce Reagan. Unfortunately, the filibuster has stopped the Dems from cleaning up the mess much faster, but at least things are begining to head in the right direction; healthcare, economy, regulation, financial system, etc.

As far as the Tea Party is concern. I will give it to the Tea Party people, as they have been reasonably effective at rebranding the Republican party. As for the popularity of these far right people I am not so sure. They certainly have not proven themselves to get anyone elected; NY-21 and PA-12 were the only races they have run in and they lost. Recent polls also seem to be turning away from the Tea Party, which is causing many Republican politicians to run away from this movement.

I didn’t realize Shirley Sherrod moving on required that she never mention the abject racism of certain right-wing media figures, or call them out on it.  Every SINGLE “project” Andrew Breitbart releases has one common thread: it takes on African-Americans, and the institutions that have supported them in modern America.  He is a professional race-baiter, a racist, and he makes good money at it.  Shirley Sherrod is only stating the obvious.

According to your logic, if Clinton was correct and morally right to send American troops to help the Bosnians, then George W Bush was morally right and correct to remove Saddam.

Evidence shows that the Shia and the Kurds are more deserving of our help than the Bosnians ever were.

Besides, if intervention in Bosnia is justified on humanitarian reasons, then intervention in Iraq is justified as well. Saddam was alot worse than Slobodan. A lot worse.

Wow!  I was gone all day and saw 305 “comments” posted.  Before taking alook at what all the hooplah was about I said, “Well, it must be the resident trolls come to call.”

Seymour:  Very well said.  Unfortunately, your well thought out explanation is falling of the bots’ deaf ears.  They made a mistake and false pride will never allow them to admit that.  Some of them keep talking about how smart they are and even, from time to time, concede that even some NQers are also “intelligent.”  But there is a vast chasm between smart/intelligent and wise.  That’s the part that can only come with having seen some of this stuff before — and having the wisdom to not get caught out again.

The answer is to use the military to enforce our borders like most countries in the world do.. Let the soldiers use whatever force is necessary to stop this crap, including DEADLY FORCE. Thes pictures  were taken in an area I used to drive through for 24 years on my way to work at the border.  It is disgusting.  If you shoot enough of these bastards, this will stop.  I know a few hundred Arizonans who will volunteer to secure the border if they won’t get prosecuted.  IT CAN BE STOPPED.  These people are not coming here to work.  They are coming for criminal activity, free benefits and all the goodies that our liberal friends give them.
