The hacking of Gov Palin’s email is the 21st century version of the Watergate scandal that led to the resignation of President Nixon. In that case, some people hired by the campaign broke into the democratic national committee’s office. it was initially investigated as a common crime — breaking and entering — until it was traced back to Nixon campaign operatives. In today’s day and age, breaking and entering is replaced by hacking into the Republican VP nominee.

This is horrible and I agree with NicoleAnon that the venom needs to stop, including that pushed by the HuffingtonPost.

I haven’t seen a statement of denunciation from the Obama campaign. He needs to come out quickly and denounce this repugnant act.

He risked his candidacy to fight for the surge and becuase of that the Iraqi poeple are on the streets safely. Al-Anbar province where there was expressed to be no hope from some democrats is now in the power of the iraqi poeple. He fought Abramoff for his corruption. He fought big tobacco. He voted against the Dick Cheney Oil give away.

Some cards in New Mexico’s most populous county have the same name as a voter who’s already registered, but carry a different birth date or Social Security number; some list someone else’s Social Security number; some have addresses that don’t exist, Clerk Maggie Toulouse Oliver said Wednesday.

In one case, a series of about nine cards appears to have been taken directly from the phone book, she said.

“Those are sort of the big red flags,” Toulouse Oliver said.

And he worked closely with the Catholic church (some muslim). I like his 7 years as a state senator and 4 as a US senator where he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism and care for returned military personnel. I like that he taught Constitutional Law for twelve years at the University of Chicago.* In the Senate he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in using federal funds. I like his temperament, his intelligence, which is acute, and I am impressed, yes, with both his speaking ability and his writing.

As a senator he was ranked as 11th most powerful; crossed the aisle to sponsor bills with Tom Coburn, the Transparency Act, which authorized establishment of http://www.USA spending.gov, a web search engine to track government spending and he introduced follow up legislation with Senators Carper, Coburn and McCain. He sponsored legislation requiring nuke plants to notify state and local authorities of radioactive leaks (amazing that was not in place long ago). He also sponsored an amendment to the Defense Authorization Act adding safeguards for personality disorder military discharges and also sponsored the Iran Sanctions Enabling Act supporting divestment of state pension funds from Iran’s oil and gas industry and co-sponsored legislation to reduce risks of nuclear ( he can pronounce it correctly too) terrorism. He has made many trips abroad – Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and Africa. and to a Russian mobile launch facility with Republican Richard Lugar.

And in Illinois he was chair of Health and Human Services Committee (useful for health care reform) and worked with police to enact death penalty reforms and in the Senate he also cosponsored the Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act and a related bill the Secure Fence Act (take that Lou Dobbs) and with Senator Lugar (R) expanded the Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction to include conventional weapons.
His speech at the Democratic Convention four years ago was terrific and made me think of the Lincoln Douglas debate in the way he and Abe were both catapulted into the spotlight based on oratory and the content of that oratory. I like his grace and his values.
Now, when I sent that to my aforementioned friend, she scoffed that I made no case yet she loves Palin who ran a state with the population of Peoria and was mayor of a city the size of my little (5000 people) home town.
McSame voted with W 90% of the time, was one of the Keating Five in the S&L scandal and uses his POW status like a hammer. I am reminded of George McGovern who was labeled unrealistic and even cowardly when he had actually won medals for valor flying a bomber over Germany – the fault of the Dems and the media that it got little or no play while Nixon posed as a brave warrior.

BTW, I think the McCain campaign is holding back for now and waiting until after the first debate. It is difficult to get through the midia bias. The articles against McCain are 9 to 1. Before you ask questions that also accuse us of something you should read the articles on this blog. The problem people had all along was the fact that the birth certificate that was put online is a fake. Now why would anybody fake a birth certificate?

We shouldn’t live & die by polls right now. They’re gonna be all over the place in a race this close.

Instead, focus on the larger picture: The conventions are over, their respective “bounces” have faded, and on balance, McCain probably picked up a point or two from where he was relative to Obama before the conventions started.

The next major events will be the three presidential and the one vice-presidential debate. The VP debates will have more significance this time because people will want to see if Sarah Palin can hold her own against Joe Biden. (I believe that she will.) But the three presidential debates are far more important, and John McCain would seem to have the advantage in that type of unscripted, give & take format.

What I’m hoping will happen is that after the 3rd debate, McCain and Palin will be even in the polls or perhaps have a slight lead. Then we can rely on the “Bradley Effect”, the GOP’s hard-hitting 527 ads in the battleground states, and their nuclear bomb, the whitey tape, to produce a McCain victory on Election Day.

It bears repeating that the great bulk of those voters out there who are still undecided are white lower middle-class and middle-class voters. This is a demographic group with which Barack Obama has not done well in the past.

Obama told Kilpatrick to stay home and not attend the Democratic National Convention. A few weeks later, Obama issued a public statement asking Kilpatrick to accept the plea deal. Why did Obama, who so highly praised Kilpatrick, not do this privately? Why did he feel it necessary to be so overt about it? Interesting. And yet another Obama “friend” is thrown “under the bus”.

The Michigan Dems have tried to protect Obama from the fallout of this so they designed an out for him. The Mayor was going to be out of office the following morning either way–either he took the plea deal (and he actually had privately accepted) or he awaited the governor’s proceedings which would have put him out the next morning anyway. Once Obama knew he was out either way, he finally released a statement the night before, not anytime in the 6 mos. since the mayor was indicted for felonies and yet stubbornly clinged to his position and power as a bargaining chip.

Obama didn’t show leadership when he REALLY needed to tell the mayor to step down. He waited until it was a done deal to make the statement so as to distance himself from the fallout.

By the way, the scandal also involves settlement money given to the cops that sued for being wrongly dismissed and/or demoted for investigating a strippers murder after an “urban legend” party at the mayors mansion.

Once the mayor knew that perjury could be proven with the text messages he used his office (attorneys, etc.) to conceal a 8.4 million dollar settlement (with taxpayer money) and deceived city council into signing onto the agreement without knowing the secret deal.

This story will get much worse but not until after the election.

The ad is typical in politics. Guilt by association. Ads like this have been run against all politicians if an associate gets caught doing something illegal.

An example of a racist political ad is the one they ran against Harold Ford when he was running for the Senate in 2006, linking him with some blonde woman who claimed to have simply met him at the Playboy Mansion.
