From the McCain/Palin Press Office:
ARLINGTON, VA — Today the McCain-Palin campaign announced the endorsement of Lynn Forester de Rothschild, a prominent Hillary Clinton supporter and member of the Democratic National Committee’s Platform Committee.
“In an election as important at this, we must choose the candidate who has a proven record of bipartisanship and reforming government, and that’s John McCain,” Rothschild said.
“We can’t afford a president who lacks experience and judgment and has never crossed party lines to work for meaningful reform. Amid tough economic times and foreign policy concerns, we need someone who is ready to lead. Although I am a Democrat, I recognize that it’s more important to put country ahead of party and that’s why I support John McCain.”
Rothschild, an attorney and businesswoman, supported Sen. Clinton during the Democratic primaries. She will campaign for Sen. McCain through Election Day.

I am profoundly impressed with the fortitude it took for Lynn Forester de Rothschild to make this decision and proudly announce her preference publicly.
Some of the saddest recent incidents on TV news have been the parade of sad-sack Democrats like Howard Wolfson and Lannie Davis trying their best to appear enthused by Obama’s candidacy when we all know that THEY know he is not qualified and is not ready to be president. (Note: This is not intended in any way to criticize Mssrs. Wolfson and Davis, because I have so very much respect for them. I am just sorry that their party affiliation has put them in such a difficult situation.)
It is time for a highly prominent Democrat — and a member of the Democratic party’s Platform Committee — to take a stand, and say what most of Hillary’s supporters are surely feeling and thinking. We are all indebted to Lady de Rothschild’s courage and willingness to speak her mind.

UPDATE:
Of course, as memeorandum.com makes clear, the know-it-all Obamabot bloggers like Matthew Yglesias could not wait for Lynn Forester to make her statement today, and to hear her reasons for her endorsement. No.
Irony truly is dead as Lynn Forester de Rothschild endorses John McCain on anti-elitism grounds:
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him,” she said of Obama in an interview with CNN’s Joe Johns. “I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
The problem with Yglesias’s clever put-down? Lynn Forester de Rothschild didn’t say that today. She said it in early July. Furthermore, her remarks were — surprise, surprise — taken out of context by Yglesias et al. Here are all of her remarks in “Clinton donors hesitant to show love for Obama,” the full CNN story on July 9, 2008:
With that debt yet to be paid off, some of Clinton’s supporters are balking at the idea of forking over donations for Obama — especially if he does not choose her to be his running mate.
Businesswoman Lynn Forester de Rothschild launched a Web site bringing Clinton supporters together to put the pressure on Obama.
“We are being asked to embrace party unity without the fair representation of Hillary Clinton and her 18 million voters,” she says on her Web site. “Party unity requires bilateral action. We ask Barack Obama and the [Democratic National Committee] to respond.”
De Rothschild is one of the so-called “Hillraisers” — supporters who raised at least $100,000 for Clinton. She’s yet to fork over any cash for Obama, and she doesn’t know if she will.
“I certainly know there are lots of people who are withholding their money,” she said.
“This is a hard decision for me personally because frankly I don’t like him. I feel like he is an elitist. I feel like he has not given me reason to trust him.”
That sentiment may be sending some Clinton fans into Sen. John McCain’s court. …
I think that, when she made those remarks, she was dwelling on Obama’s failure to come through and help retire Hillary’s debt as well as Obama’s arrogant refusal to reach out to Hillary’s supporters.
