The Shoe’s On The Other Foot Now, Madam Speaker

This is rich. Remember back when Bush was president, and his Administration was accused of distributing propaganda to support its programs? People were outraged at the news, remember? I sure do – I was mighty upset that our taxpaying dollars were going to support downright propaganda, for programs I opposed, I might add.

Well now, the shoe is on the other foot. Rep. Darrell Issa of California has documented numerous instances of the Obama Administration doing much the same thing. Yes, they have been using our tax paying dollars to prop up their programs, most recently with an ad featuring Andy Griffith speaking to seniors. Yep, turns out that little ol’ ad was paid for by the Health and Human Services Department. You might also notice you aren’t seeing it anymore. Hmmm. How very coincidental. Ahem.

Anyway, this information, and more, is documented in an article by Jonathan Strong of the Daily Caller, “Issa Hits Obama Admin For Extensive Use Of ‘Propaganda’ To Boost Health Care, Other Priorities.” Let’s see what else is in there, besides the Andy Griffith Ad, which Issa said violated federal law due to its partisan nature. This is another good one:

Another important instance cited by Issa’s report regarding the health care bill involves Jonathan Gruber, a noted health care expert who was revealed to be making hundreds of thousands of dollars from government contracts during the period he was authoring editorials in favor of the health care law and being cited by journalists for his health care expertise.

Gruber was paid by nearly $300,000 by HHS for “technical assistance” as a consultant on estimating the economic impact of the health care law. Gruber did not disclose his government contracts when discussing the health care law with numerous journalists. Articles that relied on Gruber’s testimony and were favorable to the health care law were promoted vigorously by the president himself.

Oops. Gosh, so is Issa saying that a bunch of the crapola shoved down our throats about the health care law was propaganda?? Wow – that is shocking (not that we didn’t know it was a bunch of crapola, but that it was paid-for propaganda is mighty telling).

It gets better, though:

Gruber said after his contracts were revealed that he “never intentionally withheld [his] two HHS contracts from Congress or the media.”

Oh, I am so sure it was just an oversight on his part! Just like Geithner and Rangel forgetting to pay their thousands and thousands of dollars in income tax, I am so sure Gruber just forgot to mention he was getting $300,000 in contracts from the government!!

Oh! And remember the NEA propaganda sponsored by Buffy Wicks, the Deputy Director of the White House Office Of Public Engagement who, according to Jonathan Turley was accused:

[snip] of encouraging artists supported by the National Endowment for the Arts to produce works supporting President Obama and his policies. The story first appeared in BigGovernment.com.

On the transcript of an hour-long conference call, Buffy Wicks states, “We’re going to need your help, and we’re going to come at you with some specific ‘asks’ here. But we know that you guys are ready for it and eager to participate, so one we want to thank you, and two, I hope you guys are ready.” Personally, I am more concerned about a high-ranking official using the verb “to ask” as a noun. That falls into the category of saying “my Bad” as an immediate cause to be sent to Gitmo for waterboarding and re-education.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

Oh, yeah – that’s in Issa’s report, too!

Back to Jonathan Strong’s article. Guess who was just shocked and appalled by what she learned abt the Bush Administration’s propagandizing? You know it, our Speaker of the House:

[snip] The Issa report compares Gruber’s $300,000 in government contracts to an instance in the Bush administration when the Department of Education paid columnist Armstrong Williams $240,000 to advocate the “No Child Left Behind” legislation.

When it was revealed Williams was receiving taxpayer funds, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi decried the “underhanded” tactics, saying it was “not worthy of our great democracy,” the Issa report notes.[snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

Well, dang – I am sure she will be ALL over this report by her colleague, Rep. Issa! Don’t you know it! I am sure by the end of the week, we are going to hear that she has filed some suit or something against the Administration for misappropriation of funds.

Why are you laughing? Oh, c’mon, it could happen! In about a billion years, but it COULD happen!

The fun with the Obama Administration just never stops, does it?

  • steelmagnolia

Bwaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!    OMG – I’m choking and can’t get my breath!  And this is reported on what news stations???? ………….I’m waiting……………crickets – well, Fox, maybe.

  • seattlegonz

I caught a brief snippet of a *cough, cough* expert being interviewed on a NPR program yesterday, regarding the health care bill. I almost choked (with no one to give me the heimlich) when the *cough, cough* reporter lobbed the question, “So often people find themselves in financial trouble when they get unexpectedly ill, or have a medical problem, and so often these issues would be prevented if their before care was better. Tell us about the preventive care in the health care bill, and is it true that there’s no cost with these preventive measures?”

I may not have the quote exact, but I guarantee you that was the gist of the question. The expert went on to say, excitedly, that there were hundreds of preventive measures fully covered. When a caller asked if it was true that an elderly person had to be in a nursing home to receive medicaid, that was quickly acknowledged, and then the so-called interview returned to how exciting it was that a colonoscopy would be so much cheaper for the average patient and they dreamed of all the colo-rectal cancers newly avoided.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oh, brother.  That sounds abt right for what passes as “journalism” these days.  I am SO sure that Nancy will get right on that correcting the propaganda thing.  Ahahahahahaha!!!

  • arabella trefoil

Wow. That’s some great TV. Nothing is more exciting than chit-chat about colonoscopies.

  • Yttik

I’m really hopeful, probably not the kind of “hope” Obama had in mind. But the last two presidents have extensively used propaganda and although temporaly effective, it didn’t really stick. In Obama’s case it’s kind of funny because here he has the media in his pocket, he’s got teams of propagandists, he’s got both houses of congress dominated by his party, and yet his approval rating is plunging. Americans are overly stimulated, maybe we’re also building up an immunity to propaganda? That, or Obama is just as bad at brainwashing as he is at leading.

  • CindyWhiteBaguettew/OliveOilforDipping

But the burning question is: With the Three Stooges and Marx Brothers w/ Margaret Dumont, all gone on to their rewards, who in the hell will be cast to play  Pelosi, Obama, Reid et al,  in the made-for-tv movie??! (Speaking of “the arts”!!) :)

    Great post, Rev!

  • seattlegonz

It was radio so I couldn’t see the interviewer batting his eyes, and the interviewee tilting his head and smiling sweetly. That’s my preventive care…avoid all lying journalists; it prevents gastroreflux, vomiting, choking, headaches, nasuea, diarhhea, depression, and PTSD-like fits of rage. Unfortunately, the dems took this preventive measure out of the bill, claiming that responsible journalism was too costly, and might benefit women, specifically Hillary Clinton.

Through this whole charade of a presidency, I continue to believe that if we’ve lost a free, ethical and independent press…democracy is over. It’s certainly on it’s last breath. I wish this concerned more people…

O/T A person that worked for GWB said we can’t object to the mosque in NYC because moderate muslims are fighting along side our troops in Afghanistan and we will insult them.

So let me get this straight. We, as Americans, can’t espouse  dissenting points of view lest we insult “moderate muslims” in a foreign country  with which  we are supposed to be at war.

So I guess we must all sit down and shut up  until said war is over. We ran negative ads and cartoons against both Germany and Japan when we were at war with them.  Okay. I are officially confused.

What our government, pundits,  so-called media  and elites are saying is that the American public are no longer entitled to our opinion as defined by the US Constitution.

If we can’t beat Afghanistan, a small country with no nukes as far as we know, with our own military then Obama is right.  Now is the time to get the hell out and come home.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

LOL – good one, Cindy!  And thanks!

Oh, let’s see.  I imagine Jim Carrey will have to play one of them.  He’s pretty goofy.  Tyler Perry, maybe, to play Obama?  And Patricia Heaton to play Nancy because it would be hilarious to have a Rep. play her!

    Fun game – thanks, Cindy!

  • Patience

My HSA with a very large deductible HAS IN THE PAST, AND CONTINUES TO pay for preventative diagnostics such as colonoscopies.  This isn’t an original idea of the government’s.  The question I’d like to ask is if I’m going to be able to keep my HSA the way it is or will it cost even more?  And will it meet the new government criteria for acceptable coverage?  I just don’t know yet.

  • arabella trefoil

seattlegonz – My mom had breast cancer years ago. (She’s just fine now: 83 and she still works!) Her employer changed its insurance plan this year. Her yearly mammogram is not covered any more because she previously had breast cancer. So now a mammogram is no longer covered because it’s “follow up care” and not preventive care.

Thank goodness my mom is in a position to pay for her mammograms. Most people are not as lucky.

  • seattlegonz

Patience — my insurance company decreased the benefits, and the employer increased the employee payment all just prior to the health care bill being passed. Many insurance companies adjusted (to screw the patient or customer) in anticipation of the bill. They’re now limited as to how much they can increase the employee cost. However, I’ve also heard that other employers are just dropping plans and reducing choice to the one that’s worst, uh, er, I mean best.

Since there are only a few insurance companies, I think we all got free colonoscopies…without getting the results.

  • seattlegonz

See, now that’s the preventive care they’re talking about. It makes me spitting mad!

Wow, that is some convoluted logic by this person.  So now Americans have to give up our CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHT to Free Speech lest we insult moderates in a religion??  Holy crappydoo – for real??

What’s kind of ironic about that, is that I don’t think Muslims appreciate all this coddling. Seriously, it makes us look weak and unstable. When a country is weak and unstable, they tend to do irrational things, like suddenly bomb the crap out of you. I bet many Muslims would much prefer a strong, forceful, and consistant message. People who flip flop around make everybody nervous.

  • TeakWoodKite

Patience, the whole premise of “the government” dictating this is crazy.

    Nancy Pelosi calls for
    investigation into opponents
    of Ground Zero Mosque

    American Thinker,
    by Thomas Lifson

    Original Article

    8/18/2010

The most powerful woman in government “join[s] those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded.” KCBS radio in San Francisco interviewed the Speaker. Listen here. Pelosi made a fool of herself calling the tea parties “Astroturf,” and this remark is, if anything, even stupider. On Planet Pelosi, the only way a political movement happens is with funding and direction from above — as in the case of the vast network of Soros-funded organizations, and the Axelrod-sponsored Astroturf groups….

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Exactly right, Dario – from not just keeping, but expanding the Faith Based Initiatives, to the spying on Americans, with all of the other Bush programs in between, I, too, have said all along that Obama was Bush III…

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I just heard something abt this, Breeze.  So, she wants to know who is funding the opposition, but doesn’t bother to ask who’s funding the mosque??  I am not making any claims abt it, but c’mon, if you are asking abt one side, then why not the other?  Especialy when the imam who wantst to build it is still short $100 mil, and is on a US-taxpayer funded trip to the ME?  (Oh, nothing suspicious in THAT timing at all, is there?)

Wow.  Way to keep your eye on the prize there, Nancy.  Pathetic.

  • kenoshamarge

Yttik I think there comes a “tipping point” for propaganda. I think that point came faster in the Oblahblah Adminstration because people have reached a point where they have little trust or faith in those that purport to “represent” us.

Many who voted for or supported Oblahblah honestly, and naively, thought that he would do what he said he would do and bring us, as a nation, closer together. Instead we are divided worse than we were under Bush.

At the end of his term Dubya would be sent out to run his mouth and the more he talked the less people “liked” him or his administration. I think that point has come for Oblahblah a hell of a lot faster.

  • kenoshamarge

This is serious. It is obvious that the Speaker of the House of Representatives has lost her frakkin mind.

I thought she was just typical pol who would say anything, do anything, jettison any ounce of integrity or honestly she ever had to score points for her team. I thought she was a bad person.

Now it’s obvious the poor women needs serious medical help.

I finally realize what all that blinking of her eyes means, it’s her brain signally for help!

  • kenoshamarge

This is serious! It is now obvious that the poor woman, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United States of American, has lost her frakkin mind!

I thought she was just a typical politician who would say or do anything to score points for her “team”. I thought she was a bad person who was absent any integrity or honesty. I thought she was in fact, a politician.

Now it’s sad to see that she’s lost her mind. I finally realize what all that blinking of her eyes means; it’s her brain, the poor little thing, signaling for help!

  • arabella trefoil

The political insiders are worried because they know it will be very hard if not impossible to get the same people who got Obama into office excited about/engaged in a mid-term election. Apparently, the great mass Obama supporters are like four-year cicadas. They only come out in presidential years.

This is true, believe me. And Axelrod knows it.

  • jwrjr

  • Diana L. C. Hazelnut Nut Thin Cracker

How very sad for those parents, but I expect that time will bring some maturity.  Just hope he didn’t join a Muslim group that will kill him if he decides to leave the fold.

  • Diana L. C. Hazelnut Nut Thin Cracker

    candymarl red bone craker,

I saw that interview on O’Reilly too.  It was O’Reilly’s attempt again at being “objective.”  Sometime I just can’t stand him because he pretends so hard and then he talks over his guests all the time.  The guy you’re talking about was just talking about the politicians way of doing things–saying that the POTUS has some duty to the soldiers in the military who are Muslim and those who are not who have to depend on moderate Muslims.

It makes me angry that allmost NO ONE ever mentions in their discussions about “feedom of religion” that our laws have precedent over certain religious beliefs.  It is our duty to know if this damned mosque is being built by religious fanatics who believe in killing daughters and wives who “dishonor” them, who believe in jihad,

To say we can’t look into funding issues is crazy.  How many times do we argue about taxation issues regarding Christian churces, etc., about how they get their money.

I am sick to death about the shallow level of thinking that is expressed on tv today.

These can’t be easy times for Speaker Nancy Pelosi. But even the prospect of a crushing defeat in November, and the related recriminations from within her caucus (which probably have already commenced), can’t explain her call for an investigation regarding protests against the building of the Ground Zero Mosque. To believe that opposition to the construction of the mosque at Ground Zero has been “ginned up” requires a level of tone deafness that is shocking in any politician, never mind the Speaker of the House. It is one thing to claim, as the typical hack left-liberal pundit does….

It still amazes me that the Media is so remiss in doing plain homework, and will print garbage in exchange for “access”.

Using taxpayer money for any administration’s policies is underhanded and unethical, yet they both do this. Obama has made his backroom deals, and then asks for us to pay for the advertising of his policies whether we oppose them or not.

  • morris1030

No one knows anything about this HC bill.  Nothing really happens until 2014, but I have just been notified by AARP that senior Medicare supplement policies with AARP are going UP in 2011. At least by 20%.  Obama has done nothing good here. Insurance premiums will continue to escalate. Drugs as well.

This bill will be facing lots of opposition, and the bumbling Obama administration may fold on it eventually. In any event this is one complicated poorly explained utter mess.

This administration is embarrasing in its incompetence, and the manner in which we have been manipulated.

Ellen, your laid off employees are receiving subsidized COBRA.  If I am not mistaken they only have to pay 35% of the COBRA cost.  So, yes it will be an increase, but not as hard on the pocket as those that have no susidy such as myself.  My husband passed away but that does not qualify for the subsidy, so I have to bear a cost at this point of $750 a month for my insurance.

  • EllenD

I am sorry to hear that, Paw.What you have to pay is ubconscionable.
Yes, my subsidized COBRA employees only have to pay 35% of the increase. As taxpayers, we all have to pay the rest.
