“Foot and Mouth” Disease Epidemic In Democratic Party

It is official. The Democratic Party has once again been attacked by a dangerous epidemic of “Foot and Mouth” disease. There have been so many cases diagnosed that Democratic Party is in danger of becoming extinct. First there is SusanUnPC here at NoQuarter with the following story, Here’s the Video of Biden on Clinton. Biden is quoted as saying this in a Boston Globe article:

“Hillary Clinton is as qualified or more qualified than I am to be vice president of the United States of America,” Biden said. “Let’s get that straight. She’s a truly close personal friend; she is qualified to be president of the United States of America. She’s easily qualified to be vice president of the United States of America and quite frankly it might have been a better pick than me, but she is first-rate.”

Of course then there is Obama’s very famous gaffe, and the first gaffe of the Obama/Biden ticket. Here is that video:

And then of course there is the famous line from an ABC interview: “You are right, John McCain has not talked about my Muslim faith.” In Obama’s own words again:

Now just when I thought the epidemic was under control, along comes Charlie Rangel. He certainly stepped in it, didn’t he. Let’s see what he had to say about Sarah Palin:

Yeah! Rangel says, “You have to be kind to the disabled.” Needless to say I am very disgusted…with Rangel.

I am a disabled female Navy veteran….and yes! I want an apology! The best kind of apology for me would be to fire Rangel’s a$$ for his tax troubles, misuse of Congressional stationery, and just for being a narrow-minded, bigoted man towards disabled people.

All this Charlie Bashing is WRONG. Charlie Rangel is an Army Korean War vet/hero, a great congressman, a wonderful leader, and a GOOD GUY.

He’s a true friend to both Clintons, and he has the heart of a PUMA.

People seem to forget he sat with Hillary and Chelsea at the convention. He was the guy cheering beside them as Bill gave his speech.

We know where his heart is–it’s with Hillary. Funny how he’s in all sorts of hot water, for “backing the wrong horse,” as it were, now. Wonder how many “Team Obama” assholes stirred those pots?

And that is why he said what he did about Palin, to get himself OFF the OBAMA fundraising rolls; to make himself “too controversial” for Barack and Biden–he’s WAY smarter than most people, which is why he’s survived in politics for so long.

And he’ll survive this, too. The House has already voted NOT TO remove him from his chairmanship….too bad, Barack–you can’t punish the guy and pretend to blame it on the GOP!

Do you work for Rangel or a member of his family? How can you ignore his words and actions? He’s a crook and is taking his political efforts into the gutter.

Voters in his district may opt to reelect him but that is no reason for the other members of Congress to allow him a seat has chair of the Ways and Means committee. We’ll have to wait four years for it, and the lousy (but not as lousy as Obama/Biden) McCain/Palin ticket will have to do as a SUBSTITUTE. A POOR substitute–until we can elect a decent leader like Hillary Clinton.

BTW, the House has already voted (along party lines, natch) in Rangel’s favor–he stays in his Chairmanship.

And he’ll beat any charges they throw at him–he may get a wrist slap, but nothing beyond that.

Charlie is a turncoat. He forced Hillary into giving her suspension speech because no one, especially Rangel liked the speech Hillary gave the night of the last two primaries. They thought she didn’t say enough. Rangel was on of the go to people who told Obama he should run for president now because later on it would be more ddifficult, in this case words speak louder than actions! And apparently the people in Harlem don’t like Bill very much any more because of the so called racist things he said!

Think about it…its condescending. You don’t spend decades in public life–the man is close to eighty now–without knowing a thing or two. Charlie is SHARP and smart. I agree with you socalannie. But I have to say that Mr. Rengell’s comment was insensitive to people with handicaps. If what Clinton Fan says is true, that he said it to distance himself from Obama, then I guess I have mixed feelings about that. I would be glad that he moved away from Obama, but disappointed that he chose to insult handicapped people to do it. Seems to me that there would be other ways to distance himself from Obama than insulting the handicapped.

Charlie Rangel has been at the FOREFRONT of ADA legislation over the years.

When it comes to people with actual, not POLITICAL, disabilities, he puts his bill sponsoring ass where his trash talking mouth is. He has been a cosponsor of a number of bills to strengthen the capacity of the Americans With Disabilities Act. You can look it up if you don’t believe me.

Rangel is a FRIEND to the TRULY disabled.

He’s just not a friend to the POLITICALLY DISABLED. And why should he be?

Of course, there are none so BLIND as those who will not see….

We’ve never gotten any help, financially or otherwise, from the gov. for my sons special physical therapy classes. Not a dime. And we’re not rich either, barely middle class. All my kid has ever gotten is a blue handi placard.

I believe that some of the outrage here directed at how Palin has been treated is merely a transference of how we felt when Hillary was so disrespected. It’s a feeling of “here we go again” and it doesn’t really matter which woman is the target — it’s a matter of fairness after all, isn’t it?

As far as Rangel is concerned, it does seem bizarre that he wouldn’t know that what he said was offensive but you would think that he also wouldn’t want to offend Pelosi and those who hold his fate in their hands. It’s really a puzzlement if his comment was intentional or not — he’s not a naive guy but overall I don’t think this, as well as other gaffes by that woman in SC, Biden etc. offers a good image of the Democratic Party and could hurt them in the election.

Gov David Paterson of NYS, a good friend of Charlie along with his dad. Gov Paterson is legally blind. He’s a disabled politician. So what was Charlie trying to say in essence? It’s a bad idea for public figures to be caught as if they are ridiculing the ‘disabled.’

It bothers me that there are no intelligent attacks leveled at Palin. If she’s as inept as they say she is, why can’t they get her on the issues?

I have been thinking the same, Clinton Fan. I’ve been looking for info on Bill Gwartney also and absolutely nothing since the write up on his funeral. Shelia Jackson Lee has a primary opponent heavily funded by the DNC and Stephanie Tubbs Jones right before the convention and I wonder if an autopsy was performed. This year has made me paranoid. I like Charlie, but I wish he had stayed away from comments about Palin.

I agree. It appears that his tax troubles etc. began when he refused to jump on the band wagon for BO back in Feb., to try to blunt Hillary’s burgeoning success in the primaries. I have seen elsewhere that he tried to make amends right after June 3 by then insisting that she withdraw — which she did — but apparently that was too little too late, and all this shit was brought down on his head anyway.

The so-called income tax issue is entirely defensible, its not a situation where he would have schemed to defraud the gvt, his explanation is pretty typical, the amount involved is not gigantic by any means, and it looks overblown for political purposes to me.

And don’t forget that we just saw earlier this week the report that the Jewish group that disinvited Palin was apparently threatened by the BO gang with a complaint to the IRS about the legitimacy of their registered tax status, by which I gather that if they maintained the invite to Palin, the dems would have complained that they were acting ‘politically’ in violation of the terms of their registered charitable status.

Also don’t forget the ongoing deluge of troll phone spamming and actual complaints to the Dpt of Justice being used to silence that WGN Chicago radio talk show host who keeps trying to bring facts about BO, Ayers, etc., to public attention.

Make no mistake about it — the BO/Chicago gang are past masters at gaming the system to coerce people to do what they want them to do. Who knows what the pressure on the Clintons are.

This is just one reason we have to vote McC into office, vote downticket BO dems out of office, and vote as many downticket Clinton dems into office this fall. By my reckoning, we have just one chance to get this right before the whole apparatus of the US government becomes the tool of the BO/Chicago gang. As Chicago and now all-Illinois politics have shown, once that happens, there is no turning back. Look, they already have the olympics, when they come to the US again, locked up in their games.

What do Wes and Charlie have in common? THEY ARE BOTH CLINTON FANS.

What do they also have in common? They both made RADIOACTIVE REMARKS (this latest one by Rangel, and Wes said being a POW didn’t qualify McCain to be President) that caused them to be rendered USELESS by Team Obama as fundraisers….and in my opinion, they did this DELIBERATELY. Why? They didn’t want to get stuck raising money for that little shit, that’s why.

I come to PRAISE Charlie Rangel–his making that comment ensures he won’t have to raise money for the guy he doesn’t like much….Barack Obama. He’s still raising money for Congressional candidates, though–and selling out the venues, too.

THINK STRATEGICALLY. Look down the road. Step back and see the BIG picture for a change.

No he did not lose anything. And WTF are you talking about with that “become” a national leader nonsense? Where have you been all these years? Charlie has been a national leader for DECADES. He’s been Chair of Ways and Means for the past two years, and ranking member long before that. He’s also DCCC chair–with all the attending party clout that goes with that job. He’s one of the most powerful legislators in DC.

The man is almost EIGHTY, you know–he knows he’s at the pinnacle of his career, this is IT for him. And it ain’t bad. Ways and Means is a good gig.

Palin is a Republican. Charlie is a Democrat. It is to be EXPECTED that he would make a partisan comment or two about her–it’s what politicians DO.

What Charlie said is par for the course.

The fact that everyone is hypersensitized to racism and sexism caused some people to blow the remark out of proportion, and get “faux outraged” about it. The actual result of the remark is that it ensures that Charlie is FREED from having to fundraise for Obama.

Charlie didn’t misspeak. He thought about that comment, and he said it DELIBERATELY. He was very careful to make it an “OOOOOOOOOH NOOOOOO” (disabled) comment….that he MITIGATED just a touch with “politically speaking.”

It was an act of sheer GENIUS on his part. Ardent Dems who support Obama will agree with him, and claim that anyone who beats up on him is being unfair, and ardent Republicans will get all huffy and say he was being sexist, or mean, or insulting to disabled people… which he wasn’t, EITHER–the woman IS POLITICALLY DISABLED, as is the lead candidate on the DNC ticket.

How’s Charlie “lose” in this situation? He gets a boost from diehard Dems who see him (falsely) as supporting Obama strongly, AND he gets out of having to fundraise for a candidate he secretly dislikes. Team Obama knows this, too–but there’s nothing they can do about it–because Charlie has them boxed into a corner. See, they really DO need him to help with the downticket races, because some of those have become contests because Obama as party leader is UNINSPIRING.

Charlie’s still fundraising for downticket candidates–he’s just “off the hook” for Obama–and he doesn’t LIKE Obama, so that’s working out GREAT for him.

I can’t help you if you don’t understand how these things work. All I can tell you is that Rangel emerges stronger than ever, and he’s well on his way to getting past this ethical hump that, a short week or so ago, seemed insurmountable.

I support Hillary Clinton for President in four years, and if I have to support a “less evil” GOP ticket to make that happen, I will do it–but don’t fucking expect me to become a Yeee Haw Sarah booster or a McCain advocate. What the RNC ticket is, is simply SLIGHTLY BETTER than Obama, and easy to beat in four years by a Clinton-ANYONE ticket.

Personally, I’ve done much research on McCain’s past and background and have come up with much to admire. Most particularly, he has proven prescient on a number of issues way ahead of the event beginning with his

pleas for Reagan not to make soldier’s sitting ducks in Beirut,

warning about Fannie and Freddie in 2005 by trying to pass a bill that would have headed off that disaster,

seeing that Petreaus would be the man to make the surge work,

calling for the resignation of Rumsfield early on etc.

The man has a lot on the ball and as a former Hillary supporter, I’ve gotten enthused about him despite early misgivings.

As for Palin, despite the fact that she is more right wing than what I would prefer, apparently her previous tenures have shown her to be more of a pragmatist than a ideologue. She also projects a lot of energy, seems like someone who can roll with the punches, appears to be a happy person and I have also grown fond of her.

What do you know about serving? Don’t tell me about serving in the cold! What’s more every time I stepped foot off my ship(s) in the 80s my life was in danger. Ask the Navy Seal who was killed onboard a civilian aircraft. Ask the men like my husband who were serving onboard the USS Saratoga when the Achille Lauro hijackers were captured. Charlie is helping other Dems WIN their seats–he is a hugely popular fundraiser, and he’s going to continue to fundraise for downticket Dems. You might want to have a look at some of the recent ethical lapses in Congress before you get too harsh on Charlie. His errors look like someone who took an extra napkin in the lunch line, compared to some of his GOP peers’ shenanigans.

Again, I’m gonna write here that we who are oppossing the “new coalition” that has taken over the Democratic party need to keep a few things in mind, such as seeing the bigger picture. Politicians, like the Clintons, Clark and Rangle, are going to have to stay loyal throughout this process. Some will try and distance themselves by rendering their usability to nill. They must live to fight another day. Going to open war with their own party is merely going to weed out the strongest advocates of the principles that represent us. Those of us that blog on pro-Clinton sites, we moderate Democrats (or whatever term you prefer), have the luxury and the responsability of saying what needs to be said in the most straightforward of speech without any fear of repercussion (save the casual criticism of trolls, which only strengthens our resolve).

Also, while we are fortunate that the Repubs nominated someone who will do as a substitue, McCain and Palin (I could never get behind a Huckabee ticket, or even Romney – I would have voted green party in that case), it is a substitute. We are preparing for Hillary in 2012, or if she shouldn’t run again (I hope this isn’t the case, but just saying) then someone who caries on her message.

Keep the perspective correct. I personally do respect McCain for going against his party to have Rumsfeld removed, as well as his understanding of military and foreign affairs. However, in many aspects I do not share his views, which is why I was a Democrat, until being pushed out to the bounds of “left leaning Independent” from this election process. I, however, intend to take my party back, and wage war like never before against the far left loonies and Chicago Dems that have created their coup in the Democratic camp. To do that, we will need good politicians to vote for, to represent us. They will need to weather through this election.

I know this is a stale thread at this point but I am absolutely dismayed at the cluesless veracity and remarks supporting Rangel. Rangel is a convicted tax cheat–and he’s in charge of the Ways & Means committee of all things and supposed to be the leading expert on taxes, he also took an interest free loan that may be of questionable circumstances, he’s abused New York’s riculous rent stabilization laws, on at least four instances, intended for people of limited means–one apparently for a campaign office, and one has to wonder about his car just towed from the congressional parking lot in DC. Parked there without valid registration and plates for over four years–another instance of cheating on taxes, plus ignoring house rules as if he’s above the law. He may have done some good things, but they do not put him above the law, nor beyond approach. That he now makes a patently offensive comment only deepens his discredit. Beyond the stupidity of some folks to defend him, I’ve got to wonder if he really thinks that this helps Obama, gives him distance from Obama, helps himself, or Clinton. It does none of the above. It shows him to simply be an embarrassment to not only the Democratic party, but to Congress and the country. He has no place in congress–just as others in similar circumstances have no place in congress. It is a shame that congressional Democrats sided with him and that Pelosi is so spineless to not remove him from his committee chair.

My family were ENRAGED by Rush’s mockery of Michael Fox…we have lost two family members to Parkinsons and a nephew was diagnosed at age 40. These people worked at whatever they could until weeks before their deaths!
Additionally, as I mentioned before, a dear brother-in-law is dying now at age 86. As a victim of polio at age 3, he has spent his entire life in heavy braces and on crutches. He could have spent a lifetime on disability, but chose to become a home builder, and worked until 3 years ago, until my sister had a stroke!

I think Rangel-hating is a bridge too far. To me, a lot of this rent control apartment and back-tax stuff seems like an invented scandal. The dollar amounts are pretty low and there’s no evidence that he got special favors.

His Palin comment was probably meant to be funny but came across as mean, and he apologized the same day. I don’t turn on anyone for one gaffe and I think Rangel has a pretty good record, and that’s what I look for in a congressman. He’s on the right side or pretty close to it – he is a DLC Democrat.
