Mosque Supporters Want WHO To Speak Out?

You might not want to be drinking coffee or anything right this moment. Why? Well, when I tell you just who the mosque supporters want to come out in support of building the mosque 60 feet from Ground Zero, whatever beverage you’re consuming may end up on your computer screen. Okay. Ready?

George W. Bush. No, really – I’m serious. They want George W. Bush to weigh in on the building of this particular mosque near Ground Zero. Would I lie to you? No. And wait until you see who a couple of the writers are requesting Bush’s input in this Byron York article in the Washington Examiner, “Mosque supporters beg George W. Bush to come to Obama’s rescue“:

It’s time for W. to weigh in,” writes the New York Times’ Maureen Dowd. Bush, Dowd explains, understands that “you can’t have an effective war against the terrorists if it is a war on Islam.” Dowd finds it “odd” that Obama seems less sure on that matter. But to set things back on the right course, she says, “W. needs to get his bullhorn back out” — a reference to Bush’s famous “the people who knocked these buildings down will hear all of us soon!” speech at Ground Zero on September 14, 2001.

Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson is also looking for an assist from Bush. “I…would love to hear from former President Bush on this issue,” Robinson wrote Tuesday in a Post chat session. “He held Ramadan iftar dinners in the White House as part of a much broader effort to show that our fight against the al-Qaeda murderers who attacked us on 9/11 was not a crusade against Islam. He was absolutely right on this point, and it would be helpful to hear his views.”

And Peter Beinart, a former editor of the New Republic, is also feeling some nostalgia for the former president. “Words I never thought I’d write: I pine for George W. Bush,” Beinart wrote Tuesday in The Daily Beast. “Whatever his flaws, the man respected religion, all religion.” Beinart longs for the days when Bush “used to say that the ‘war on terror’ was a struggle on behalf of Muslims, decent folks who wanted nothing more than to live free like you and me…”

Come on, isn’t that hilarious? These are the same people who vilified Bush routinely, routinely!!! And now, now that the man they supported after consuming massive amounts of Kool Aide, and smoking tons of Hopium, and shoved down our throats, refusing to do any vetting whatsoever, has made such a mess of this issue, they want BUSH to weigh in? This is one of the funniest things I have heard in a while. Maureen Dowd?? Eugene ROBINSON?? Oh, wow.

Well, someone else who has weighed in is Debra Burlingame, from the 9/11 Families. Did she ever have something to say, especially about Madam Speaker Pelosi’s remarks about funding:

Well, Ms. Burlingame certainly didn’t mince words. Agree with her or not, there is no misunderstanding from where she is coming on this issue.

There is one group from whom we have not heard on this whole mosque business. And that would be moderate Muslims. What is their take on Imam Rauf’s building the mosque near Ground Zero? They, too, are quite clear: don’t build it. That is the upshot of this Daily Caller article by Caroline May, “Moderate Muslims Oppose Location of Cordoba Mosque – On Religious Grounds.” This article is well worth the read, but a few salient quotes:

[snip] Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, told TheDC that moderate Muslims have been silent on the matter, despite possible disagreements, due to religious concerns. According to Fatah, however, the need to avoid causing another person pain should trump such conflicts.

“There is a widespread belief among Muslim teaching that anyone who opposes the construction of a mosque, which is the house of God, is committing a sin,” he said. “So a lot of people who want to voice their opinion do not want to become a part of the controversy. But especially during the month of Ramadan it is important that our actions not cause pain to anyone. Any action by a Muslim that causes any pain to anyone else should be halted!” [snip]

That explains a lot – the widespread belief, that is. It helps to know why moderate Muslims have been quiet throughout this discussion. There is more:

Fatah believes the mosque plans are moving forward because they have the support of the American government. “I think they have an official green light either from the State Department or the White House telling them to, ‘Go ahead, you have our full backing,’ and they want to use this Islamic center as a place for diplomacy to the Middle East to demonstrate that the United States is a place where Muslims thrive. But that has backfired because this could have been done in many other ways.”

Jasser said that the building of this mosque is ‘fitna,’ a religious term meaning mischief-making, which is severely frowned upon in Islam. “‘Fitna’ is anything that causes chaos in society,” he said. “This mosque is causing chaos, it is causing ‘fitna’ and that is not the Islamic thing to do … This is ‘fitna’ and ‘fitna’ is wrong.”

Fatah agreed saying that ‘fitna’ is an ethical and moral issue that ought not be taken lightly. “If a step taken by an individual causes disharmony then it is ‘fitna.’ [The mosque] has caused so much pain. There are many mosques already in New York, nobody has ever opposed a mosque, if there is opposition to a mosque on grounds of hatred I would be the first to confront it. But over here it is a matter of sensitivity and there is no residential community even near the community center.” [snip] (Click here to read the rest.)

“Mischief-making.” Yes, that seems to be a good term for what Imam Rauk is doing, along with Obama, I might add. And yes, the State Department sending Imam Rauf on a tour of the Middle East on our dime, at a cost of $16,000, certainly appears to condone the building the mosque by essentially endorsing Rauf.

But Fatah said it all. This is not about hatred. It is about sensitivity (about which I wrote recently, too). This decision is causing pain, to a number of people. Two thirds of New Yorkers oppose building the mosque there. Two thirds of Americans oppose building the mosque within two blocks of Ground Zero. Not because they/we/I oppose building mosques in general, but because we oppose it being built THERE, overlooking where Ground Zero stands, a hallowed ground to New Yorkers, to our nation.

George W. Bush can say something or not, doesn’t really matter to me. As far as I am concerned, the opposition is about sensitivity to those who lost loved ones, and to a nation that suffered a devastating attack there. It is not a matter of “freedom of religion,” or “freedom to practice religion.” It is about ceasing the mischief making, an “ethical and moral issue” of some weight.

I think that pretty much says it all, don’t you?

  • Janis

And W should do this WHY?  I can’t stand the dumb bastard, but I quite reasonably can’t see him wanting to help these people.

The only reason they want him to okay the damn mosque is so they can point their fingers at everyone and say, “Look!  Even EVIL NASTY DUBYA wants the mosque!  So STFU!”  He cannot fail to understand that.

  • Yttik

Bahahaha! I really did laugh when I heard people were wanting Bush to weigh in. You know Obama has  hit bottem when people start saying Bush should step forward and lend a hand, help Obama with his credibility.

No kidding, Yttik – especially people like Eugene Robinson!  Holy moley!!

Well, and now Bush is more popular than Obama in “frontline” districts by 6 pts.

    And Buzz, that is hilarious!!!

    Janis, you said it!

I think you hit it on the head why moderate Muslims aren’t speaking out.  They don’t want to piss off less moderate Muslims and risk retaliation. Remember, to extreme practicioners of the Islam faith, you can’t be a moderate and still a good Muslim. You’d be considered an infidel. Also, I was under the impression that the 9-11 highjackers tried to fit into American society by doing and appearing to embrace American things – drinking, going dancing, shaving off their beards, etc.  By doing so, they were perceived to be moderate Muslims.  But they weren’t as was evidenced by flying planes into the Twin Towers and Pentagon.  They acted such a way to divert attention from themselves.  Why would we automatically assume any Muslim here who does the same is what he says he is?  Trust but verify and be very cautious.  So when I hear the Imam of the Ground Zero community center/mosque is supposedly moderate, I think so what?  It could all be an act to gain the trust of the Americans so the betrayal down the line is all the sweeter. And even if he truly is moderate and tolerates gays and encourages fair behavior towards women and condems killing of innocents, how long do you think he’ll stay that way if Saudi Arabia funds him and his mosque? Or maybe a moderate Muslim is someone who just doesn’t bomb civilians but still thinks it’s ok to kill gays and stone wayward wives and disobedient daughters?  What is the definition of a moderate Muslim?  So if this mosque gets funding from the Saudis, it’s reasonble to expect they’ll demand he tow a more radical and stricter line (even if just in private) and expect his mosque to be a meeting place for those who are much more radical and/or wish Americans harm.  Why would the more conservative Muslim sects even deal with him since they’d consider him a traitor for not endorsing the mass murder of non-believers. That leads me to believe that he quite possibly is 2 faced. Says one thing to the West and another to his Muslim brothers and they don’t publicly condemn him because they know it’s an act to gain American trust and favor.

Absolutely Tango.  This is why I’ve kept saying there can’t be moderate muslims.  They cannot be devout and moderate at the same time. They lay themselves open to the radical muslims who would be perfectly within their rights to harm or kill the moderates under Sharia Law.

To me saying there are moderate muslims is just a ploy in the worst sense to get PC Americans to go along.  Reality is that more modern muslims may personally eschew the worst of Islam, but the difference is they are modern not moderate.

I believe you are right.  Hannity had a Muslim converted to Christianity on his radio show last week who said the Faux Mosque Iman says one thing to the government and publicly to our face but has the standard Muslim BS positions in Arabic speaking newspapers, etc.  Since few of us speak Arabic, it’s obvious that the joke’s on us.

I have a dream.  Baby and Mama Doc are walking down the sidewalk in MV eating their ice cream cones and all around them are tourists wearing the W tee.  Now that’s a picture I’d like to keep.  Of course, to get by the SS, they’d have to wear a shirt over the tee until they were close to them…then, like Clark Kent, the big reveal.  I’d laugh my head off.

I agree she was in person at meetings leading up to this deal.  Pelosi is in it up to her botox eyebrows. Maybe her and her multi-millionaire husband will start another winery.  I’d like to know if they have illegals working for them and what they pay them

Get out of the country quick perhaps?

  • Private Hugo

The Obama Administration has limped down the “War on Terror” in a manner befitting cowardice under fire.  The enemy is only defined by actions that threaten a soldier’s life on the field of battle, or as determined by the Department of Defense in such and such a manual  page five, paragraph three, subheading so and so. The Justice Department wants to prosecute people engaged in acts of terrorism as criminals, and from what I’ve seen of their handiwork they have issues befitting the Keystone Cops. Homeland Security is tasked to deal with the Border, and illegal aliens are not seen as criminals. So who speaks for the rest of us? Not Our Dear Leader, who is busy living up to his dynamite prize, which is why butter won’t melt in his mouth when it comes to speaking up for the Amercia that built the nation that feeds and clothes him and his own. So where are we? Have we reached the point where it doesn’t matter what the enemy does to us? And, in case you’re wondering, women in this country won’t be made to wear anything. They’ll be slaugtered like pigs, like all the mongrels and the weak and the gays, and everyone else that does’t pass their standards, Sharia Law notwithstanding. The radical Muslims don’t want to keep it like it is, they want to make it like it was during the time of the Prophet. You and me don’t fit into their plans except as fertilizer. And, hell yes, there are no moderates because if push came to shove they’d sure as hell not hide you or me in their attic. Creepy isn’t it? And it’s the enemy amoung us we have to worry about, now. Mosque here or there. Our very moral upbringing and aliegance to one nation is going to hamstring us and leave us on the battlefield for the crows to pick out the very same eyes that can’t see that it’s them, or  us.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Exactly, getfitnow – I don’t care what religion he is either (or none at all).  It’s that we just don’t know anything much abt him.

But, about Obummer being unable to get off the fence, here’s a little story somebody sent.  I think Obummer is a post turtle…

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old, a Texas rancher,
whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor
struck up a conversation with the old man.
Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.” Not
being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’
    was.
The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’. ”
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he
continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he
doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up
there, and you just wonder what kind of a sick person put him up there!”

But, Janis, about Obummer being unable to get off the fence, here’s a little story posted elsewhere.  I think Obummer is also a post turtle…

While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75 year old, a Texas rancher, whose hand was caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man.  Eventually the topic got around to Obama and his bid to be our President.
The old rancher said, “Well, ya know, Obama is a ‘post turtle’.” Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a ‘post turtle’ was.  The old rancher said, “When you’re driving down a country road and you come across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that’s a ‘post turtle’.”
The old rancher saw a puzzled look on the doctor’s face, so he continued to explain. “You know he didn’t get up there by himself, he doesn’t belong up there, he doesn’t know what to do while he is up there, and you just wonder what kind of a sick person put him up there!”

I just saw this comment following an AP article ‘doing damage control re Obama
    being a Muslim’:

“Well, someone figured out why Obama nominated Elana Kagan for the Supreme Court….

Pull up the Supreme Courts website, go to the docket and search for Obama.

She was the Solicitor General for all the suits against him filed with the Supreme Court to show proof of natural born citizenship.

    He owes her big time.

All of the requests were denied of course. They were never heard.

It just keeps getting deeper and deeper, doesn’t it?

The American people mean nothing any longer.

It’s all about payback time for those that compromised themselves to elect someone that really has no true right to even be there. We should be getting so sick of all of this nonsense.

The USA has finally become the laughing stock of the world.”

The Muslim Brotherhood is leading the way for radical Muslims to infiltrate American society and government. Their goal is simple: control the United States and impose Shariah law. (Snip) A case in point — the Fort Hood Massacre. It was shocking enough to learn that the American domestic military establishment cannot even protect its own troops inside the United States. But what seemed even more shocking was the fact that the country’s most senior Army officer, Gen. George Casey, publicly stated that the attack caused him to be more worried about harm to the military’s diversity than the disgrace that….

I am totally at a loss . This is one of the most important and informative fact filled commentaries that I have seen in a long time . The amazing thing to me is only four comments on a situation that is crucial for people in this country and around the world who are the targets of this radical extremist movement . There was more interest in the New Black Panther movement .
Larry Kelley has named names and organizations , given a history lesson in what the Jihadi agenda is and layed out in no uncertian terms what the country has in its future . People need to really get informed on the real threat facing them and prepare for these things to come to pass .
It will surprise people when it happens but the extremists have been open in telling the country what is coming for many years . These are not left wing loons you are dealing with . It is an ideology that had its beginnings 12 or 1400 years ago . The diference then and now is the technology of today can accomplish with a hand full of well educated and well funded believers whe in the beginning it required an army to acheive the same end . Its time to start to wake up .

It’s a good thing you warned me, Amy.  Because I would have spit my soda right across the keyboard.  Obamacrats begging GW to speak out on the mosque fiasco.

    What????

The world has officially veered off course.  The mess that the Democrats have made of this issue is absolutely stunning. And they’ve created so much unnecessary hostility with the Holier Than Thou attitude that completely dismisses public sentiment and sensitivity to the whole subject of 9/11.

This isn’t doing anyone any good.  But like rats jumping from a sinking ship, we have more public Dems defecting [Howard Dean today, Harry Reid over the weekend]. And now Dowd and Robinson calling on George Bush for a life raft.

Amazing.  The only person I take seriously right now is Governor Patterson, who has nothing to gain by trying to mediate and defuse this mess.

But for the rest of this crew?  Hopeless!

I find troubling that a statement is made, “There is one group from whom we have not heard on this whole mosque business. And that would be moderate Muslims”; and then, you quote from an article that says, moderate Muslims oppose the building of the mosque.  (Plus, I have posted a link to this June article in the Boston Globe, naming Mulims who have weighed in against the mosque at that site.

Great post and thanks for the new word “fitna”. Does it strike you that it may be a made-up word, a little too similar to fatwa, like they just make up this religion as they go along?

Seriously this is as close to an absolute vote of “no confidence” in Obama that Robinson will ever make–or have to make–in my view. To call on Bush for help must be for an Obot like a Christian praying to the devil.

Bill Burton has declared via the WH that Obama is a Christian. According to Mr. Burton Obama prays everyday. Thus the speculation about Obama’s belief system may be moot.

Well, well, well. Uh Mr. Burton the First Lady is often out of town or out of the country. Are you stating as a fact that you know Obama prays everyday?. Is that alone? With you? Is there a specific time period?

Obama’s wife has not made such a declaration but you did. I’m so glad that you, Mr. Burton, are so “intimate” with Obama’s daily “habits” that allegedly his own wife is not aware of.

I’m agreeing with Mr. Burton. I look forward to his “explanation” as to how he apparently knows more about Obama’s personal religious beliefs and practices than his wife does. Otherwise, why isn’t such a statement coming from the First Lady?

Moderate Muslims are speaking out. But some people just ignore their voices because it doesn’t support their bias and bigotry.

Regarding the Aug. 14 front-page story “President defends plan for N.Y. mosque”:

“I am a Muslim and am grateful for the religious freedom in America. I am also very much aware of the sensitivities of Americans regarding the bombing of the twin towers. The fact that New York City has granted permission for the mosque to be built signifies America’s promise of religious tolerance but doesn’t mean that Muslims should take advantage of it. If, as a CNN poll found, 68 percent of Americans are against the location, shouldn’t their feelings carry some weight? If not constitutionally but ethically?
It doesn’t matter how pure the intentions of Cordoba House or of Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf are; there can be no healing if those affected by Sept. 11 still blame the Muslims for that tragedy. The construction of this complex will only cause further pain.

Moreover, the interesting thing is, Muslims have been praying at the site for a while now; it’s been used as a spillover site from another mosque further uptown, which is overly crowded. Did anyone even notice the site was ALREADY used as a Mosque? The inflammatory rhetoric is even more grotesque in light of that fact.

I appreciate RRRAmy’s attempts to understand moderate Muslims; at least her argument implies there are moderate muslims to consider, a fact which many of the sad commenters here seem hard-pressed to even consider, so busy are they defending their bigoted worldview.

Good article, jbjd. Thanks for highlighting that there are moderate muslims who are speaking out. Jacoby’s article is a breath of fresh air; if only Obama had paid any attention to it in JUNE when this was published. Breeze, you’re wrong. Dogmatically repeating your argument doesn’t make it any less wrong. Moreover, in your fallacious argument, Muslims who live in this country are all here just to pretend to appreciate the freedom which brought them here because they’re all pretending to be moderate so they can throw off their mask at some point and kill us all. It’s a trifle paranoid, as well as, bigoted, and completely without merit.

There is evidence all around you that moderate muslims exist, and that they too are alarmed by the rhetoric surrounding the mosque. I think they are alarmed because they fear a backlash against them by hate-fueled bigotry. RRRAmy thinks they may be alarmed because they are observing Ramadan and could be the target of Islamists. Whatever the reason, the truth is there are Moderate Muslims, many of whom believe in this country’s Constitution, and came here because they believe in the values of this country. They find a way to observe their faith and believe in the values of this country, much as ALL religious people do here, no matter their religion.

The 7% who are dedicated and publicly committed to the radical jihad movement does not represent the percentage who support what the
7% are doing. That constitutes the majority of the religion.

The Imam planning to build the Ground Zero mosque is not considered
to be a part of the 7%.

And he isn’t. He is simply typical of the majority of the 93% who will lie
to non-believers in their stealth plan to take over the world.

So we have 7% openly at war and a majority who will lie to your face

Um, thanks (?) for the backhanded compliment, Noogan.  As a UU minister, I was required to learn abt all of the major world religions.  But even before that, I had learned a lot abt Islam, including from one of my roommmates, a Fellow at Harvard, whose father had been an ambassador to the UN from a country in the Middle East, and who was Muslim.  So, yeah, I’d say I have made “attempts” at understanding Islam.

I do know there are moderate Muslims, but I also do not discount there are Muslims who wish us ill.  We have seen the results of that twice at the WTC, and most recently, at Fort Hood.  Other attempts were not successful, but that doesn’t negate the intent.  It is important to not pretend that is not the case, or to castigate those who are wary of Muslims as a result of these attacks.  They happened.  By Muslims BECAUSE they were Muslims, not because they were terrorists who just happened to be Muslims.  It is a big distinction.

I have said before, though, we cannot paint everyone with a broad brush, nor can we allow political correctness to make us blind to realities.

A group of triumphalist Muslims seeks to erect an Islamic center near Ground Zero in a city that already has 100 mosques, and they face, at worst, disapproval, stern looks and calls to relocate their project.

Contrast this with a news report by journalist Mindy Belz in the current issue of World magazine, concerning Afghanistan’s small community of Christian converts. Belz describes how an Afghan television station recently broadcast a video of a baptismal service, sparking riots in the streets of Kabul and leading to the arrest of 25 Christians. Nobody knows at this time the fate of those arrested. Because it is illegal for Muslims to convert in Afghanistan — as it is in most Islamic countries — people who choose any other faith face the death penalty. Adherents of other religions, meanwhile, are subject to official discrimination and persecution, despite guarantees to the contrary in Afghanistan’s constitution. Thus, the plight of Christians is shared in many Islamic countries by Buddhists, Baha’is, Hindus and Zoroastrians.

As Time puts it, it is wrong to “conflate Islam with terrorism and savagery.” But the world must be dealt with as it is and not as we wish it were. That requires us to accept the reality that Muslim nations are the most religiously intolerant places on Earth, and that a startling number of Islamic clerics worldwide still refuse to condemn violence against nonbelievers. I thought you were tired of the “Ground Zero Mosque” story.

Well, what about Room 1E438 in the Pentagon where an Imam calls to prayers Muslim U. S. Military and Department of Defense personnel every Friday just 100 feet from where the terrorists crashed the plane killing 184?  Yes, in the Pentagon.  And they have been doing so ever since the repairs following the attacks.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

I disagree with your assessment, SNK.  But I appreciate your sharing your POV.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Nopogan, please do not put words into my mouth.  I did NOT say this: “RRRAmy thinks they may be alarmed because they are observing Ramadan and could be the target of Islamists.”

I think I have beeen plenty clear without your making claims as to what I said.  Thanks.

    Peggy Sue,
I know of no such thing and for you to write that you know what I’m thinking is way over the line!
I can see that you and I will not be modulating in the future.
It is a free country, and people (not the government) can burn their own books anytime they like.

    Your assumptions are insufferable!

  • oowawa

No–it is counterproductive.  The only way to effectively “burn” a silly book is by reading it and discussing its stupidity with others.

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Oops, and I meant to add, thanks for the link.  Good article, and it appears, the same players as the one from which I quoted above.

Well, if you care to be enlightened, this is the group and the planned “event.”

But please, keep on defending the indefensible.

  • Diana L. C. Hazelnut Nut Thin Cracker

Noogan and Captain Jack Sparrow—I will agree that there are some Muslims who have mentally moved into the 21st Century and that there are differences in Muslims,  They have their Sufis (don’t know what in English a “Sufis’s” is as a noun–it appears to be a possessive adjective without a noun after it), their Sunnis and their Shiites–etc.

Christians have their Catholics, Greek Orthodox Christians, Baptists, Methodists, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, and on and on.  If anyone just wants to, he or she could read of the hudreds of years of warfare that occurred during the Reformation.  Doctrinal and theological differences abound and existed even before the Reformation–it’s a long, long history.  So give us a break here.  We are not as stupid as you who deem yourselves so ethically pure think we are.  I will be willing to go against you each on a history question about where the individial Christian denominations stand on such issues as, for instance, consubstantiation and transsubstantation, and many others.

The difference here is that these issues have been hashed out over centuries, and here in the U.S. we’ve arrived at a general understanding that U.S. law has precedent over religious law if the religious law does not agree with civil law.  That is, for instance, the reason the Mormons finally got rid of their beliefs about polygamy (except for the few sects that must hide away) and their beliefs about AAs being inferior.  The arguments against abortion and gay marriage are Christian doctrinal and theological dispute, but most Americans know that current law has the final word.  Catholics understand that a Catholic may divorce his or her spouse and will not send out orders for killing the person.  The church may just deny the person certain religious rites.  We allowed groups like the Quakers to avoid the military draft or to be assigned to non-combat postions, etc.

What we have not dealt with yet are the many doctrinal disputes of Muslims.

I, for one, want a full explanation of where and from whom the money is coming for this building.  I want a completely sincere explanation of the stance of the people who not only are involved in building it and financing it toward Sharia law, female genital “circumcision,”  honor killings, and freedom of religion for the children and wives of Muslims.  (After all, we do allow our children to leave our choice of faith in this country, don’t we?)

And after they give us that information, I want them to be made to understand how our civil laws will react to their followers if any break a civil law because of their religious feelings about what their duties are to their religion.

We don’t need at this point to take the chance of becoming a really balkanized country.  I do not want a justice system with a separate sharia justice system inside as in some European countries now have.  I want clear guidelines about what will happen to the men who commit “honor” killings and to the people who help them escape justice.

I want them to uinderstand clearly that Americans may walk by that building wearing clothing that might offend them or carrying pictures (pehaps of Muhammad) that may offind them because that is a Constitutional right.

We would be crazy to allow these issues to grow in our country if we can stop it NOW.  At this point we need a full statement from the people who want to build this community center and mosque.  We want them to acknowledge that any recruiting for jihad that occurs in their building will be grounds for closing that building.  These things need to occur before the build, not after.

And there is no better place and time to demand these answers than at a site on which part of one of the Jihadists’ planes landed so near to the site where so many Americans were killed as they shouted their praises to Allah.

  • Diana L. C. Hazelnut Nut Thin Cracker

And though this example is not a purely “religious” example, as a native of Colorado, I would like to point out the memorial for the dead at Columine.  The man who first built and installed the crosses, also included crosses for the two shooters.  Because many of the victims’ families were uncomfortable with that, as were many of the schools’ students, one father of one of the victims finally tore down the two crosses.

There is no denying that most people felt grief for the emptiness of those two boys’ souls and wondered how they had been neglected or abused and prayed for them, but no loud outcry arose to re-erect their crosses.

I will still say that the feeling of the majority of the victims’ families should be the ultimate concern here.  It IS a matter of sensitivity.

Then it becomes serious.

    Quantico wasn’t attacked.

It isn’t abt mosques in general, or calls to prayer in general, or Muslims in general.  This is VERY specific abt a specific mosque at a specific location, one at which thousands of Americans died at the hands of Muslim extremists.

And it is not that difficult a concept to grasp, either.  Well, at least I didn’t think it was.

  • kafir

Why don’t you tell that to Muslim countries? They are burning Bibles by the thousands. No other religious books are allowed in Muslim countries, period.

Disgusting? If America is under Sharia Law, all the Bibles will be banned and burned by the Islamic terrorists.

Wake up America, support Dove Outreach and let them reach all Americans in America.

All the Korans must be burnt like what they did to Bibles or else there is no US Constitution but Sharia Law!!!

    The quiet resurgence
    of George W. Bush?

    MSNBC,
    by Howard Fineman

    Original Article

    8/20/2010

Seven years ago, then-President George W. Bush stood beneath a banner on an aircraft carrier and declared that “major combat operations” in Iraq had ended. Wednesday, they actually did — and, by design, Bush was nowhere to be seen. (snip) The war cost America more than 4,000 lives, at least a trillion dollars, and a serious loss of world esteem. And it left behind a country with no ruling government and an ever stronger Iran. And yet, at the same time, the former president is enjoying a mini-moment of grudging acceptance, if not affection, in America….

    Imam’s wife ‘won’t cave’ on
    Ground Zero mosque,

    New York Post,
    by Jennifer Fermino

    Original Article

The defiant wife of the cleric behind the planned mosque near Ground Zero vowed yesterday to go ahead with the project — calling it a “history-making moment” in the fight against “Islamophobia.” Daisy Khan, who founded the project along with her husband, Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf, said the increasing opposition — which she blamed on Republicans — has only caused organizers to become more committed. (Snip) “We have too important a moment to back down. We have to take our opponents and transform them. We have to convince people that not all Muslims are extremists,” she said….

Maybe the light will go on for you, Mrs. Khan, if you bother to watch some

videos of what happened around 9:00 AM on Tuesday, September 11, 2001.

    ————————————————————————————————-

Personally I spent the most horrendous hours of my life that day.

I was watching CSpan that morning and something suddenly made me
switch to CNN.  I saw a plane fly into a tower and thought it was a movie
promo…..Almost immediately I saw the second aircraft, it was not a promo!

My daughter and her husband had left Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) early
that morning  after visiting some of my family.  In those days one did not
worry about things like that, so I had not asked for a flight number or
    the name of the airline…..

My daughter, being half Scot, is quite frugal and she always tries to find
the cheapest airline to whatever destination, regardless of having to
    change planes, etc.

So you can imagine how I spent the next four to five hours….

  • Talk2ThePaw

And don’t forget that George and Laura also went the next day to Ft. Hood after the shootings and spent time with the injured and the families of those killed.  They specifically requested that the press not be notified.  Obutt when he finally made an appearance for the service, kept everyone waiting till HE was ready.  If you watch the whole video you will see how sincere George and Laura are, and again they did not ask for press coverage.  And they arrived in advance of the troops, no keeping our men and women waiting on HIM.  Plus, as it was not a photo op for the press he and Laura individually welcomed each and everyone of our soldiers, Obutt would have greeted a few pre-selected men and women and then taken a hike.  Plus the troops would have been left on the plane on the tarmac for an hour or so till the Squatter In Chief made his grand entrance.

    Bush confidante Hughes calls
    on Ground Zero organizers to
    ‘locate their mosque elsewhere’

    Washington Examiner,
    by Byron York

    Original Article

    8/20/2010

Karen Hughes, who for years was one of George W. Bush’s closest advisers, is calling on the organizers of the Ground Zero mosque to “locate their mosque elsewhere.” In an article for Sunday’s Washington Post, Hughes writes: A mosque at the edge of Ground Zero would be much more than a house of worship; it would be a symbol, interpreted differently by different audiences. For some it would be the ultimate expression of the freedom of religion we enjoy in America; for others, a searing reminder of terrible deaths at the hands of murderers calling themselves Muslims…..

Oh, and what is with people putting words in my mouth today?  I never said I was “tired” of this story, surfered, just that I was taking a break from it.  Just to clarify,

  • Rabble Rouser Rev. Amy

Maybe so, Breeze.  Hughes was TIGHT with Bush, so could be…

  • Captain Jack Sparrow

    Reverend Amy…

” It is important to not pretend that is not the case, or to castigate those who are wary of Muslims as a result of these attacks.  They happened.  By Muslims BECAUSE they were Muslims, not because they were terrorists who just happened to be Muslims.  It is a big distinction.”

MiB Agent Kay: “A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.”

So lets allow “people” who are biased and “dumb” to run amok. Hold it against them? Of course we should and we should fight stupidity and intolerance at all costs.

I guess then we should hate the Germans and the Italians as well? These terrorists killed Americans too. Or have we forgotten the 1970′s when Hijacking Aircraft was a international sport? When bombings in Boston, New York and Chicago were a national sport?

So you have made your attempts to understand Islam eh? Then if you can’t say a good word about any of it or in this NYC Mosque case be the peacemaker then as a Ordained Minister your missing the boat.

I have a very good understanding of the Koran and the Five Pillars of Islam.  I also have an excellent understanding of terrorism. Part of that Islam education came from someone at the Investigative Project. Even Steve Emerson is not a total “Islam” hater.  Just a radical Islam and terrorism hater….My other understanding came from living in the Middle East and seeing all the headless sides of Islam.

So Reverend Amy here get started again with these books…..An Introduction to Islam for Jews  and  Children of Abraham : An Introduction to Islam for Jews

One never stops learning… I knew the author of the second book personally. Very peaceful man….

Then if you really want to learn there is Larry Johnson buddy… Colonel Patrick Lang… Who knows more about the Middle East and has a much better understanding of Islam and its threats than the entire intellect of the posters on this site. Including myself… Maybe you should ask Colonel Lang his opinion…. But why keep an open mind when you can waffle….

Now for most of you Islam haters here. Your blindly attacking a headless religion and a Imam who the radicals hate. Good job….Bravo….

The key to this Mosque is more of who is funding the Mosque not the Imam in this case. That is what I am watching and so far so good.

Moreover in this case Reverend Amy as someone ordained I ask this question… What would Jesus do? I do expect your answer as an Ordained Minister…..

Or does that answer not sit well with your political beliefs?

  • Captain Jack Sparrow

    Dianna…Once again….

MiB Agent Kay: “A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky dangerous animals and you know it.”

While you may understand Christianity to some degree. That debate would be interesting. But your writings indicate you do not understand Islam at all. They indicate fear!  You are also very confused on what Muslim American’s  understand of “OUR” Constitution and Justice System (which is not going anywhere).

Coimments such as…. “I want them to uinderstand clearly that Americans may walk by that building wearing clothing that might offend them or carrying pictures (pehaps of Muhammad) that may offind them because that is a Constitutional right. ”

Excuse me Dianne…. Here is the dangerous part of Agent Kays quote…

These are AMERICANS or Resident Aliens your speaking about! They know very well the Bill of Right and the U.S. Constitution. They know “WE” have the right just as “THEY” do do walk past their building “PEACEFULLY” in protest!

But why would you want to anyway? Unless your the last part of Agent Kays quote…..”panicky dangerous animals and you know it.” Most of your writing here is very confused and full of fear. They have a right in this County to build this Mosque no matter what you or I think. That is the par your not getting. YOU, I and others do not matter…. Nor should we. As long as the zoning issues are all in order they are well in their rights. If the Mormons, who I consider a “cult” or as I call them a “Churchianity” religion can build their temples so can these folk.

Now saying all of this you did hit the nail on the head at this point….”I, for one, want a full explanation of where and from whom the money is coming for this building.” While you and I  have NO right to this explanation. You are correct. Its follow the money …. and so far its a winner….do far….

Funding is the key with the Mosque. If the funding is diverse then that is a good thing. But if it centered by the radicals that’s a bad thing. In the case of this particular Imam the radical part is very unlikely. Since he is hated by the radicals.

Try this Dianna…. Rather than jump to fear…. take a breath and look deeply behind with curtains with those professionals who REALLY understand this Mosque and its Imam. Not the special interest lobbies who have their own agendas.

I am looking–I see honor killings happening.  I see wives of prominent Muslims being beheaded.  I see a push for sharia law.  I see people shouting for jihad.  It is an immigration issue and a freedom of religion issue tied together.  I wouldn’t allow freedom of religion to a Borg if such a thing existed and allow them to build a collective in the U.S.  I understand the concept of “render unto Caesar” very well while putting God above all others in one’s heart.  Do many of those fanatical Muslims?  Do they understand that over time, freedom of religion has been taken as an INDIVIDUAL right?  Do they understand that their daughters may choose to leave the religion, as might their sons?  Do they understand that I and many other will not ever pray to their Allah, as they’ve interpreted their God?

The whole thing is about a mosque in this particular place at this particular time.  I don’t care how legally right they are, I am insulted by their actions.  That is one reason that there might be people insulting them back.  They could do much for Muslims in America by understanding that they should NOT put up this center at this place at this time.  They need to keep their plans but move the location.

And please don’t talk down to me.  I have a very deep and thorough knowledge of Christitianity.  I think it’s shows your prejudice to make the comments you do about Mormons.  Yes, they’re very different and are seen by many Christians as a cult.  But, teach a few of their children–the school I last taught in had a large Mormon population–and usually you find students who work hard, do not dress so suggestively that you’re always having dress code arguments, and they’re respectful to all.

Talk to me about Jehovah’s Witnesses and I can tell you their history and the various names of the heresies they’ve been accused of–mostly Arianism.

Talk to me about the foundation of the Methodists, the Presbyterians, the Mennonites, etc., etc.

You are an elitist jerk as far as I can tell, and a person who is not even able to spell my name right, so much respect you show.  If people are dumb and pack animals, in your mind, I wonder how you survived the days after 9/11 with all those dumb pack animal Americans running around lynching Muslims.

“Karen Hughes”? I am sure she is not speaking for the President. But then again why would Bush say no when the MUSLIMS voted for him in majority in 2000 thanks to Grover?

Oh my goodness did I forget to mention  Suhal Kahn? Nothing like having a terrorist sympathizer who’s father had a  Bin Laden Ambassador  brought into the United States under a false passport to do a fund raiser for none other than…..  Work for you in your own PRESS SHOP!

    Karen Hughes…. LOL!

Yes W please open your mouth……Love to hear this one….

Oh yes…. Lets not be too biased and political in any of our thinking..

” Pope John Paul II, who advised a group of sisters in 1993 to move from their convent at the former Auschwitz death camp after protests from Jewish leaders“.

Special interests will be the death of the United States of America…..

Is that not exactly what people who voted for him took into consideration? Regardless, what ANYONE thought of him as a candidate? Should read…
Is that not exactly what people who voted for him took into consideration? Regardless, what ANYONE thought of him as a candidate? The experiences he offered, his friends???? His “Hope and Change Vision” many did not find it a suitable option for him to be POTUS. Hello??!!
What jumps out here in a huge way from the information you are offering. We have “O” in office, Peggy Sue, Noogan and yourself keep reminding us how you never voted for him. 2 of you don’t want the mosque built but in the next sentence, demand we understand all there is to understand about Islam! How we should accept it otherwise we are bigots? Does that mean the people in NY have to just put up with the increase of Muslims moving into the area and get over it?
The reality is, regardless whether you 3 like it or not history has shown us for years, many creeds will never be able to live together in unison as neighbors’, it is simply a fact of life!

Last food for thought and then most of you can go back to your pitiful and hateful lives….

This Mosque right now has in its building fund some $9000 to $10,000 dollars. Two blocks away and after 9 years there is a hole in the ground we still call “ground zero” (guess we can’t find a more thought provoking or memorial name). Now there is something we should all focus on. Nine years later and where the Twin Towers once stood is still nothing more than a hole in the ground.

But we decide to bitch about a Mosque that might never be built? What the hell is wrong with everyone?

Food for thought? No idea what your trying to get across with this last comment. You are incoherent and expect us all to decipher what you meant to say!

And so, when these protests got his attention, unlike some dear leaders who will not be named, he didn’t fall back on platitudes about legal property rights and freedom of religion, the Pope made a courteous and sensitive decision.

And I would say that the opinion of a large majority of American does not make a “special interest” group—DUH!  (It’s the Muslims at this point who would be the “special interest” group, Dodo!)

The pirate is losing his mind, I think.  Can’t for the life of me understand this last comment of his/its at all.  I just wonder why he feels my life is pitiful and hateful since he doesn’t have the slightest idea about my life really.  Could that be stereotyping, though I thought that is what we are doing according to him/it.

Are you fucking kidding me?! What kind of tone is this, RRRAmy? Let’s have a little honesty here. You did say it. And, here’s where you said it:

“There is a widespread belief among Muslim teaching that anyone who opposes the construction of a mosque, which is the house of God, is committing a sin,” he said. “So a lot of people who want to voice their opinion do not want to become a part of the controversy. But especially during the month of Ramadan it is important that our actions not cause pain to anyone. Any action by a Muslim that causes any pain to anyone else should be halted!” [snip]
“That explains a lot – the widespread belief, that is. It helps to know why moderate Muslims have been quiet throughout this discussion. “
No it doesn’t. But those are YOUR words in bold-face. So, please do yourself a favor and stop joining in the cyber gang-bang alongside Ferd, Onofre’s Arm, Buzz Latte and others here. I had previously believed you were better than that; but clearly I was mistaken judging from your snide tone towards me. I have always been respectful and appreciative towards your work here, and have basically agreed with you most of the time. But, you’re not making friends and influencing people at this site any more by allowing the hate-fest and ugly hate-mongerers rule the roost here.
So get this straight: I haven’t misrepresented one fucking word of yours. YOU SAID IT. YOU OWN IT.
